lighter, better fuel consumption. Performance wise abt the same

Loan just approved. Picked Bright Silver.

SA ask me to wait for the new batch, which is suppose to be using Nu engine and unconfirmed rumour (from myK5club FB SA) of DVD+GPS youch screen HU (which my SA does not think will have in the new batch).

If based on the Nu engine for Elantra 1.8, which is MPI D-CVVT, the Nu 2.0 for K5, the pick-up (I think) will be worse than Theta II engine as torque is only readily available from 2.2K RPM and above. And remember, the Elantra is lighter than K5 also.

So if I am not mistaken, with the Nu 2.0 K5, you sacrifice performance for better FC...

So u choose better performance or better FC?

I tot nu engine suppose less HP than theta II ?
*
Bro, in this case, I choose better performance. Why? Simple...do the maths. 3% saving of fuel, means every RM100 you pump in, you save RM3 (3% mah, right)?

The pleasure of accelerating faster compare to the car next to you, priceless! rclxms.gif

Bro, so u chose k5 over 408?
*
Ya bro, my heart was set on 408T, but new car no discount and most of the SAs gave me sucky trade-in price. I wanted to wait to test drive Focus HB 2012 before deciding but the space for the rear passenger is a turn-off, and currently K5 got promo...

After all the discount and trade-in, the difference requires me to extend the loan for another year only...

After test drive 2 time, I am sold. Later, brought the home minister to view and test drive again, she say "YES". She says 408T not comfortable for her at the back because of the bumpy ride...

Guess have to work harder next time to earn my conti ride in the future cry.gif

Dear K5ers,

SA called and said will get car in 1 - 2 weeks time. Bright Silver. Can help me decide what minor mod to do first, without voiding any warranty one? Major mod after 10K service, he he ...

My 1st 4 choices are as follows:-

1. Tinting (Security or Normal?)
2. Tom's Stickers to protect against stone chip/scratches
3. Floor Mat (Yuma's or similar quality) for in-car and boot
4. Paint Coating (Sierra Glow?)

In what sequence would you do first?

** Note: At time of posting, FB down (maintenance mode) so can only receive poison there later...

Morning ..im planning to do the sound proofing for my k5? anyone did b4? May i know how much the total damage?
*
If KL Auto, most basic one about RM1K++, recommend to go for the RM3K++ one for better effect. Some of the members did the whole car (foaming + sound proofing) at between RM5K++ to RM7K++

Good thing about foaming + sound proofing is that you can do it in stages, and you can enjoy the effect stage by stage. But, if you have the budget, can do one shot plus a few sound, light, view and anti-hijack system there as well. Pls refer to FB (http://myk5club.com/) for more poison...

Wah getting a car in Dec? In 1 month time, your car will be in its 2nd year of ownership and worth 12-15K less. You should have just waited for a 2013 manufactured model.
*
Understand bro, much like you, yes I would like to have a higher RV later, but like most member here, I choose K5 based on personal decision and wanted to get the car for the experience of owning it and driving it, rather than worry for the value when I sell the car later...

However, when I book the car in September, it was the Theta II engine model, until my SA advice me to wait for the NU engine, which I did. Unless facelift model coming in next 1 or 2 months, this waiting game not worth it.

My only mistake (though a happy one rclxms.gif ) is joining http://myk5club.com/ too soon without having the car cry.gif

Same thoughts here on the RV part too, bro.  biggrin.gif  I'm also hoping to get mine in 1-2 weeks time. Which outlet u went to?

Similar to yours but my priorities of "mods"/addons are:
1. Tom's Stickers (Exterior protection against scratches & interior brushed aluminium strips -for dash & four doors) - kena poison by http://myk5club.com/  tongue.gif
2. Floor Mats
3. Sierra Glow
4. Tinting <--- This i have to carefully survey around for reasonable pricing and most importantly good workmanship. Anyone kind enough to advise? I'm still browsing through the humongous mods in the K5 club FB  icon_question.gif rclxub.gif
5. Foaming+Soundproofing
6. GPS NAV Touchscreen - K5 almost 1 year in m'sia and still no decent ones available?
*
rclxms.gif Great! What colour are you getting?

5 & 6 is definitely worth getting. But under my major mod list after 10K service. I already bought the full stripe rear tail light and planning to buy the auto-fold side mirror. I figure if you need to open up your baby, might as well do it one shot. Also can get the accessory shop to do some additional work in case some of the minor cases like the sun roof need lubrication, wiper needs changing to silicone, fog light change to LED type, etc. and the list can goes on and on depending how much poison you can take. Lastly, the front camera or sensor (choose one)...

As for tint, I have use Air Cool for my last couple of cars and they are pretty good, but since I got Raytech voucher, will also check this one out and of course, poison by FB site, RhinePro price and specs looks decent and very affordable. Some of my company cars uses V-Cool which I think is overly priced !!

Just saw the NU engine much more quiet than the Theta II engine on FB. Looks like the really worth the wait for the NU engine nod.gif

Other question I PM you later. Can't wait for the ride, cheers rclxm9.gif

Wah so fast bought the tail lights d  notworthy.gif

Yeah, have checked out the RhinePro, and it looks good most probably will go for this but need to find the best guy to do it.

Initially, prior to the NU engine release, KIA got problem with getting AP approval and pricing revision issue, there were delays in getting the CBU cars. After the AP issue settle, if confirm order, my SA commits 1 - 2 weeks delivery, which means 2 - 4 weeks to me can get the car. After that SA ask want the Theta II engine model still or wait for NU engine, so choose to wait lor...

Since this my first time buying accessories off the Internet, and I assume will take time, I try and see to buy one item first to get the experience.

Maybe I am a bit unlucky, it took close to a month (after some mix-up & confusion) for me to get the goods.

My plan is to budget for the most important minor mod first, then slowly order additional acc. one by one. If get car by end of this month, 10K service will probably be in 3 - 4 months time, and one shot do all the major mod together.

Need to save $$$$, as year end spending+CNY, will burn extreme deep hole in pocket cry.gif

Just gotten the price for Raytech Centurion Series, PM me if you want more info. Maybe can exchange price and specs info as well on RhinePro rclxms.gif

Got my car on Monday and have been driving it since. Dunno how to compare to Theta II since mine is on Nu engine and I upgraded from Honda City.

Here's my few observation:

1. NVH is very good
2. The engine (to me) is super quiet during engine startup and idling
3. The Infinity sound system is fantastic
4. The easy access and memory seat really help a tall guy like me
5. BT pairing for IOS and Android are easy, except it doesn't seem to auto connect when I re-enter the car
6. Am lucky did not encounter weird sound from sun roof, or from the internal cabin
7. The tyre is very noisy on wet road but better on a dry road
8. It is not a performance car so do not expect "pull back" feeling from dead stop pick-up
9. Very stable and reaches 160km/hr easily when cruising on highways
10. BT streaming, using the right type of USB to play MP3, will need some manual reading and trial-n-error

I am doing mostly driving with 50/50 highway/city and my 1st full tank seems to be on target to get about 700km if the meter reading on my car is correct. The past couple of days, due to closing of SMART tunnel, has not help with the FC as I was caught in some pretty bad traffic. Maintaining variable speed of not more than 110km/hr 90% most of the time, so I am quite happy with the FC.

Thank you for all the congrats smile.gif

Yes, the car is great! Like CM98 says, if the car comes with a larger size monitor with front & reverse cam, then parking is will be much easier. A couple of times, the front bumper nearly touch the front kerb when I park at public roads. For side parking, if you want to park perfectly, then for me, need to re-park a few times to get the angle right lor...

As for turning angle, cannot compare with City as City has a shorter and narrower body so the turning ratio is better (I feel). Am adjusting my driving style and learning the "behavior" of the new car, so I think I will be able to handle the K5 better with passing time.

I detected something today, as I was caught in a bumper-to-bumper traffic, my aircon, which is set to [Auto], starting spewing out hot air. The setting is with re-circulation mode and I have to on/off or lower the aircon settings to get cold air flowing again.

And also, after I engage the foot brake (but not extremely hard/push all the way back), the car still lurch to the front.

Any bros here encountered this problem before?

Not a major problem for me, but still would like to find out what is the problem lor...

Another 600km to 1,000 service, so better book my service appt earlier and report these couple of issues to the SC sad.gif

Will try the aircon settings from myk5club FB page. If not successful, will get Red Cube SC to see what they can do. As for the lurching forward, thanks for making my mind at ease with your experience.

Yep, kudos and thanks for the advice on the foot brake. On uneven or sloping road, you have to depress the foot brake fully to get the car to (close) to a dead stop.

Manage to get the BT to stream songs to the Infinity. Now need the sifus here to advice what file format and size of of external USB drive which the Infinity can detect.

I have a 16GB SanDisk USB formatted in NTFS file format, the Infinity says USB reading error. Then, I formatted a Kingston (1GB) with FAT32 and FAT, still the Infinity says USB reading error. All the USB created and formatted using Windows 7.

Any idea what file format and file size the Infinity can support?

Secondly, I have inserted 6 CDs into the Infinity. On all the CDs, there will be this issue where certain songs (random) were having problem being "read" by the player and the song is like unable to play correctly (like the during the whole song, it would skip 1-2 seconds and play like in a forward mode) and I need to stop and start the player to solve the problem.

Anyone here encounter this problem before?

Buy now, enjoy the year end promo. But if you register the car in 2012, you lose on the RV. Best if ask the SA can book now, enjoy all the freebies but want the car register in 2013...

QUOTE(JuneSeptember @ Dec 9 2012, 08:24 PM)
Finally my baby is back, and what a beauty she is:

user posted image

Alright, it's time for me to give you guys a status report on my problems. Sorry, I've been busy, couldn't reply here from time to time.

So, after pressuring the KIA people via various channels:
1) Wrote a very detailed email telling the story from A-to-Z, attached videos and pictures to KIA Korea through this system, and also CC-ed to KIA CMD :
KIA DDMS System <-- this is so well hidden that it took me two days to find it.
2) Wrote multiple emails and phone calls to KIA CMD Dept.
3) Paid surprise visits to KIA HQ

So, finally KIA Korea acknowledged my problems and instructed KIA Selayang SC and CMD Dept to contact me immediately (and bloody hell, these Korean fellas disappeared straight away and left the problems to NAZA KIA to handle), and then i finally secured a meeting with CMD personnel, KIA technical personnel, and KIA Selayang Manager at the end of Sept 2012.

so, bla bla bla, i had to take another day off to attend to these people and re-told them the story A-Z, and pointed out all of the problems, and they promised me the following:
1) they'll reimburse my losses pertaining to my windscreen tinting
2) they'll replace all parts that were damaged by their technicians
3) they'll fix all my problems according to KIA factory standards
4) they'll provide me a courtesy car and collect my car from my office, rather than having me go all-the-way to their SC
5) they'll collect my car on the following week
6) they'll give me a status report from time to time, and they'll give me a job report after all things are done
Well, the manager and all who attended the meeting was sincere and apologetic though, so I couldn't get angry and raise my voice, it's KIA Korea's quality control problems anyhow, can't really blame them.

So, I went back waited for a week, no news, and waited another week, still no news. Waited another week (3rd week) still no news. So I couldn't wait anymore and went straight to their HQ CMD for a surprise visit, and not surprisingly, all those who were taking charge of my case was either 'absent' or 'busy' or 'engage' and they sent out an innocent lady to handle me. Sigh, so i talked nicely again and got her to promise me to address my problems on the following week. And they did. Their excuse for such a long delay was lack of courtesy car, and they must que for the cars.

On the following week, no news nor any updates from KIA. So I called and ask, and finally the SC service personnel came to my office with a Forte and collected my car.

For the first two weeks, no news. Then on the third week, KIA CMD called and told me they are ordering parts and fixing the car.

And it took them 5 weeks to get the car ready (and that was after I called and pressured them). So after initial inspection, the following were done:

1) Sunroof noise - mitigated but not rectified by SC Completely erradicated
2) Noisy vibrating speaker grill on the dashboard - SC ignored / forgotten Didn't hear anything initially, but i heard something today, still assessing
3) Really loud seat knocking noise - Rectified, tighten up something underneath Completely erradicated
4) Lousy rear view mirror that makes noise - SC said common, didn't plan to fix they replaced it, much better now, but still not good enough
5) Creaking rear suspensions - SC said changed the absorbers, still creaking now They said it's the parking brake shoes that are causing the sound, didn't fix it
6) Free play in lumbar support - SC said common, but willing to replace the entire driver seat that costs RM4k if i'm still not happy after Raya Didn't replace, just tighten it, much much much better now, but still got a bit sound and "feeling" but I don't plan to pursue this matter anymore
7) Loud and lousy windscreen wipers that didn't work in rain - SC totally ignored, hell, i think i'll get myself a pair of silicon wipers Didn't test, still assessing
8) Slight noise in driver side b-pillar (only when driving on really rough roads) This one i plan to ignore if they can't detect it. Didn't test, still assessing
9) KIA Selayang SC scratched my A, B, C, Z pillar plastic trims they replaced all the ABCZ pillar trims, but now i'm worried when the airbag will burst at my head  blink.gif
10) and also left multiple black grease marks on my ceiling, pillars they replaced all the ABCZ pillar trims
11) and also poked and left some marks on my rear leather seat they ordered the rear seat, to be replaced
12) and also left some prying marks on my dashboard soft plastic trim they tried to press it back, still a bit bulging, i don't plan to pursue any further
13) and also pry-ed and damaged the little plastic covers covering the screws at the door handles (inside ones, not outside) they ordered the little covers, to be replaced

Over all, the chaps at Selayang SC are very helpful and attentive when you are there. The CMD HQ people are really ignorant and unattentive. I'll write in a recommendation letter to the HQ for the Selayang Boys after they fix everything for me.

Say, if all or part of my problems reoccur in the next few days/weeks, do you thing I should go back to KIA or just send them a legal letter/letter of demand? The problems started on the second week of ownership and it took them 10-months to solve a few problems (to be exact, the car was left at the SC for 3-months, and I only kept the car for 6 agonizing months).

So, any fellows here facing similar problems? I think I'm experienced enough to guide you here.
*
Bro,

It is very, very, very unfortunate in your case to experience so MANY issues. The MYK5Club is trying to get a meeting with the Naza KIA Group on the 19th Dec. I think you should join the team and ensure not only any outstanding issues are are rectified but also made your complain heard and get some freebies for all your problems and time taken off from work.

Ahh, interesting. Where can I contact MYK5Club? Facebook? I'm really annoyed right now, and I'm planning to get Pusat Khidmat Aduan Pengguna Nasional (NCCC) and MITI involved. At the same time i'm compiling the necessary materials to take a legal action against them.
I've just tested it out, my (2) Noisy speaker grill is still there. Bro, somehow this is the most difficult part to solve and it is the top three most annoying things that can happen to your brand new K5, namely (1) Noisy Speaker grill (2) Lumbar support free-play (3) Noisy sunroof

Can someone confirm something for me? I notice whenever our cars go over potholes or even roads, there's always a click sound somewhere, either the dash, or the rear view mirror area. Is this normal? or Am I too sensitive?  doh.gif

myK5club.com, yes Facebook. Just type the URL and it will l lead you to Facebook login page.

As for going thru potholes, I did not detect any sound loud enough to cause any alarm but the steering wheel will free play. I ignore this becoz a forum member here tried to get the problem rectified but in the end, problem still there.

Ive found this on a number of test cars as well. So might be a common problem. But keep raising up such issues with Naza CMD. But enure that your emails have a proper title for easy reference. For example:

'Kia Optima K5 Problems - (nature of problem) - (number plate)'

CMD sometimes loves to respond verbally. Do not encourage this. In my case when they call to update me on something, ill tell them to follow up with an email or i will do so. Its important to get everything logged in writing.

So guys, please start emailing your problems to cmd@naza.com.my. Dont bother going through your SA's for this. Just email CMD and they will get the service centre to attend to you. If you just walk into a SC, the problem is usually not brought up to Naza HQ.

If you need to speak to someone in particular, you can talk to Zaidi. If im not mistaken, he is the Head of customer service at Naza HQ. Quite a nice chap.

Great feedback. For major issues, now we can make our complaints heard through the proper channel... rclxms.gif

{Start of Sarcasm} Dear Bros,

I think I have made a terrible mistake in buying K5. The reasons are, the RV is too low, got so many problems, under-power, tech-wise so low compare to BMW 7-series and Mercs S-Class, and only 5-years unlimited mileage compare to what Kia in USA is offering.

In future, I shall ignore all the bias reports (see below) against the most branded Japanese brand car and blindly wait for the new launch of the best serviceable car in the whole world and I shall not complain about the looks, price and trim offer and because it has the best service centres in Malaysia. Further more, because the brand guarantees no "lemon" car ever being produced, the car shall run for eternity without breaking down. Lastly, I shall now count my blessing that I own the best of breed Japanese brand car in the world, where I am praise by my uncles, aunties, grandfathers and grandmothers, for making the wisest choice in car selection. {End of Sarcasm} rclxms.gif

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Dec 12 2012, 04:01 PM)
First of all get your criterias right. Why bother coming here and then using just 1 criteria to compare? Buying a car is about looking at the WHOLE package. There is no single perfect car out there. Not even a Porsche gives you everything you want in a car.

I would consider the following 11 criteria:

1) Price
2) Safety
3) Specifications
4) Design
5) Comfort
6) Interior space
7) Build quality / durability
8) Ride, handling, power
9) After sales service
10) Maintenance costs including fuel consumption
11) Warranty terms

Judge all cars based on these criteria. You can give ratings for each criteria. Without looking at the whole picture, u can never make an informed decision.

I have spent considerable time testing various cars before making my decision. For me, the K5 excels in point 1,2,3,4,6 and 11 compared to other Japanese D segments.

As for the other points:

Point 5 - It isnt very comfortable as its got 18 inch rims and a suspension thats tuned for performance and not comfort like the Camry or Teana.

Point 7 - Unknown at this point but so far im happy

Point 8 - Its road grip is quite good thanks to the 18 inch tyres and lower profile. Handling can be improved but the new K5 might have addressed this with its electric steering. Has good power putput figures too (on paper) but needs improvement with power delivery. Not sure if the new K5 engine has adressed this.

Point 9 - Its still below Toyota standards but much better compared to maybe 3 years ago. Still got room for improvement

Point 10 - Unknown at this point. Fuel consumption is quite good despite the weight but the Japanese would still be slightly better here.

The Kia Optima K5 isnt the best D segment in the market and its far from perfect for sure. But do remember that ure only paying RM 143,888 (OTR before discount). Yes you may find some better cars out there but you are also paying for any advantage you may find. The specs and equipment found on the K5 beats even the new Camry 2.5V which costs 40K more. Yes you may lose out with after sales service and possibly future resale value but you get alot more in return.

As always, i remind you to give safety a serious consideration over resale value, etc. You cannot put a price on your life and the lives of your loved ones.
