eneos engine oil from japan quite ok..
viscosity of 20w50 is the most frequent used by most of us..
rm55 will be the price range..

a lot of recycle engine oil in the market especially for castrol,shell.. if you saw any workshop using the engine oil with a relatively cheap price, pls just buy ur own engine oil and change it at their w/shop..

any brand that come into ur mind and exclude those name u never heard b4 and u r safe. any famous fully syn oil brand out there is safe as long as the oil grade is correct for ur engine and u wont go wrong oledi under normal or severe driving condition.

My engine consumes engine oil .. but after using bardahl 15w-50 mineral, it some sort of reconditioned my piston rings and now i'm using semi-syn. nvr consume black oil already

Pay attention to API rating on the bottle.
GT Performance Plus is API SJ
MGMO is API SG.




If the workshop don't have GT Performance Plus, go get one outside.

Here is another comparison among the obsolete Shell Helix Super, newer X100, and HX3.







It is apparent that the obsolete Helix Super is 'HO LIAO' actually, duno why stopped production.
Meanwhile, based on API ratings, X100 is actually 'as good as' HX3. Most probably the additive is the difference.

Helix Super ,API SL, RM58
X100, API SG, RM42
HX3, API SG, RM48
Perhaps the price already tells something.

I have been quoted by 1 workshop Mobil 1 semi-syn, RM98 but not sure the model though.

Anyone here tried with Bardhal Synthetic? Its among the cheapest in the Full Synthetic range.

Bardahl synthetic is the cheapest .. fully syn for RM85 only. Semi syn RM65. Mineral RM59. But the packaging is in approx. 4 US gallon,, equivalent to 3.75litres .. I used the mineral before .. very good

Usually the mileage for semi-syn is 6000km. But if you're in a tight budget, or the engine oil still performs well enough, can last around 7500km ..

Mineral -5000km
Semi-syn - 7500km
Fully-syn - 10000km



But based on my engine oil change interval sticker that my mech stick on my windscreen, the mileage is 5000km only .. but who cares, I'm gonna use it until 7500km

But again, engine oil is cheaper than engine. So judge on your own

XPR , highest range from royal purple. btw , is engine oil over the states there cheaper than here ?

It's a great oil and my turbo bearings love it even with the extra boost.

I also use Redline MT-90 for my gearbox. Best shifts i've had in ages and the FS5R30A loves the oil to bits. I'm usually an objective person, but the difference between Redline and my old Motul Gear 300 is like night and day.

I don't live in the states. Live in Australia. And it's actually more expensive.

What car do you drive? A fren of mine had a pretty bad experience with Redline's MT-90 on his Version 8 STI Impreza. After awhile he said shifting the gearbox feels like moving a really heavy stone After a few days he changed to Motul's 90PA and it was alot better. Same like you...like night and day but the other way around hahaha

you guys should read the car/engine manual first. Theres a specific viscocity required for the type of weather/operating temperature you're in for optimum protection of the engine components.

Because he is using the wrong oil.
The correct oil for redline brand on the Sti should be Redline 75W90NS or Shockproof lightweight.

The motul 90PA is ok.

The "Amerioil" brand of 20W-50 oil is quite lightweight
for its viscosity.

I bought one can from Univeral Auto in Pudu last time
and it improved performance in my "old junk" car.
Cost about $36 then, 4 liters.

However, they don't stock it anymore.

The agent is New Hoong Fatt, the importer of all those
Taiwan body parts. However, they are selling for about
$50 plus.

Other than than, Pennzoil's "MGMO' 20W-50 oil is also
not bad.

Usually use Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge 5W-30 for summer, 0W-40 winter. Tried Penrite SIN 0-50W once.. lightest oil they had in the SIN range, apparently ok as a 0W-40 replacement.. and my fuel consumption went down the drain.

The NS is not part of the viscosity index. The NS belongs to redline. The viscosity index should read as Redline 75W90 NS. Notice the space between the 90 and NS.

For redline, the NS series of gear oils do not contain any friction modifiers. Normal synthetic gear oils are too slippery for LSDs. The NS series are made specifically for gearboxs with LSDs.

5W-30 is ok, not too thin, but I think 5W-40 would be best, catter for low and high temperature. You need the flow of thin oil during cold for easier pumping around the engine for protection, if you rev high, then you might need the higher viscosity to avoid oil lost.

Since shinjite said Campro is hot, I'll recommend you to go with 5W-40 or 10W-40. 5W-30 would be ok too but monitor oil level every once or 2 weeks.

And Zaypher, most fully synthetic and/or semi synthetics (mineral also) would be good enough for normal use, as long as they all exceed API SM grade.

I've used oil like Royal Purple, Amsoil, and now Petronas fully syns, I've also used cheaper mineral 20W-50 in my cars and again, they won't give you noticeable performance increase. But with good quality oil, you are rest assured when you trash your beloved car.

But I have this tendency to service earlier than the recommended interval. Mineral use for 3-4k km, semi syn 5k, fully syn 8-9k.

I have been reading that the Shell Helix Full Synthetic is a little heavy. But how's it compare to Castrol Semi-Syn? Is it right to say that any Full Synthetic will have a better viscousity than any Semi-Synthetic?

I've used Mobil 1, Shell, Motul, Torco and some other crap oils. If you ask me, Torco SR-1 is the best I've used so far. No doubt it's expensive but your car really feels lighter and smoother acceleration. Mobil 1 is good as well but Shell is hopeless among these 3.

so make sure that after service if got engine oil balance, take it back with you

I've use Motul 4100 Semi Syn 10-40W, turns dark kind of quick.

Tried SUMO Semi Syn 10-40W, nothing to shout about.

motul is far better than voltronic..

Motul turns the oil darker in very short mileage. Compared with my Nissan C22 van using voltronic 15-40W semi syn, already hit 2000km mileage yet yellowish.

turn darker fast but how about performance wise? maybe the grade is not suitable.

please bear in mind.. motul is among the top ranking oil in the world..+ join gt Japan last week.
