5W-30 is ok, not too thin, but I think 5W-40 would be best, catter for low and high temperature. You need the flow of thin oil during cold for easier pumping around the engine for protection, if you rev high, then you might need the higher viscosity to avoid oil lost.

Since shinjite said Campro is hot, I'll recommend you to go with 5W-40 or 10W-40. 5W-30 would be ok too but monitor oil level every once or 2 weeks.

And Zaypher, most fully synthetic and/or semi synthetics (mineral also) would be good enough for normal use, as long as they all exceed API SM grade.

I've used oil like Royal Purple, Amsoil, and now Petronas fully syns, I've also used cheaper mineral 20W-50 in my cars and again, they won't give you noticeable performance increase. But with good quality oil, you are rest assured when you trash your beloved car.

But I have this tendency to service earlier than the recommended interval. Mineral use for 3-4k km, semi syn 5k, fully syn 8-9k.

hm..too thin?

Use Shell Helix Ultra if you can get it cheap at Tesco, or Carrefour (RM 148). Otherwise, get Penzoil Platinum from zendengoh as I think it is really Shell Helix Ultra in a different package.

Don't know if it's only me, but I don't really feel the difference between a mineral 20W-50 and a fully syn 5W-30, engine response wise.

I just buy it for protection only.

looks like SM is far better than SL.

do the SM and SL saparately.. because SL on that picture 'bertindih' with SM at the back..

SM is great

if im not mistaken.. oxidation mean that how hard the oil from yellow to turn black

SM is definitely better than SL, but those engine oil with SL doesn't mean its worse than those with SM. It might be due to the case when the engine oil was formulated, the SM standard was not here yet.

An oil supplier should not recommend you his oils before asking for your requirements and driving habit and budgets.

Depends, you can go for semi syn if you're on a budget and not an everyday-high-rev kinda person. Else, go for fully or one's that's ester based.

What do you think of Chemlube?

Megaboyz,

The viscosity rating doesn't have a direct indication of how well it protects. But ofcourse you should use one suitable for your car. You don't want an oil that is gone the next day or is too heavy for your car, that's all. Again, it does not give an indication of how well it protects.

Fully syns protect much better than semi/min.

Light or thick (how viscous is it) is not an indication of how well it protects. Surely fully syns protects better, otherwise ppl would not spend so much money on it.
