Hi, I plan to renew my passport (first before booking my hotels and flight) but wondering on the "if did not receive any email after 3 days, can straight go to your selected branch to collect". What is that 3 days means?

Here's an example:
Monday (today) - do ntg
Tuesday (2/8/22) - submit all relevant documents to the immigration website (assuming all green light)
Wed
Thurs
Fri (5/8/22) - is this day considered "after 3 days" or I need to wait until Saturday (6/8/22) only is considered "after 3 days"?

Yes, you can go on Friday, remember there is long prayer break so it's either early morning or after 2pm if remember correctly

Generally arfter 5 days you can just walk in. No email will be replied by them.

Usually it means 3 working days.
Especially if you submit late Tuesday.

Someone said it is mandatory to print out the receipt on paper when retrieving the passport. Is this true?

I only keep soft copy for now.

I just renewed mine. Just submit online and come the next day. No need to wait 3 days.

Print only. I believe it's okay to produce hardcopy "evidence" to them.

I actually went there a day before to enquire. The officer said no need to wait 3 days. It is first come first served basis anyway. Not that they are going to pre-print your passport and wait for you to turn up. They will print on the spot. So, applied online and wen the next day. No email. Took me less than 2 hours to get mine.

So I've done mine just now just a few minutes pass 12pm. Status as checked @ 1:30pm shows "Permohonan dalam process".

Yes depends on luck. And when I say luck, depends on the head of the branch.
If its a nice manager they will help find you.

They need to check if your name is in their computer list and proceed with the passport process. Not straight away ready for collection.
Go as early as possible cause if you go in the afternoon high chances you will be turned away. (Nombor sudah habis etc).

TS I recommend going to Mini UTC Keramat. Less people and the staff there are quite polite and patient.

Most airlines dont ask for passport number. In my case, the one I bought did not ask. Apparently AA also dont ask for it.

I asked the customer services last time, they said it is better that complete via online and come take physically. Save queue time.

If you really want to queue physically, then i would suggest you go nearest UTC.

Walk in for certain criteria only - senior citizen, OKU, first timers and something else. cant' rmb

Oh btw guys, I've done mine. Forgot update.
I went to Kelana Jaya's one. Quite fast. Arrived around 7. Entered @ 8-ish, serviced me around 8:20 then 8:30 got the email already to collect (officer told me once get email, wait an hour). Stroll around the area and settled for mamak. Then go in collect @ 930 +-. Done. In out in around 2.5hrs.

Travelling next week. Walked in without doing online at Kelana at 1250pm. Walked out with new passport at 2pm. A lot of people but process was smooth.

Went on weekend at 10am done at 1140am

Smooth and flowing but just not enough seating but stand 1 hour plus is fine for me

There are 2 queue lines before putrajaya open. One normal, one for seniors n kids. At 8am, senior/kids go up first, get numbers. Then normal line go up. By 9am, all numbers given out so be early-ish.

Anyone had issue trying to upload their photos?

I have tried to upload my photo a hundred of time and it failed.
It was taken at a Kodak shop with my friend, strangely hers was successful

I wonder how you all managed to upload the photo? I tried thousand times still failed, even uploaded the sample photo given by immigration also failed

Can never get it done online, since they allow people with damaged passport to walk-in, shall I damage my passport?

I experienced this error when trying to submit early in the morning between 9AM - 12PM
Strangely it works for me just now (4:10PM)

I am using Chrome 104.0.5112.102
Might be a glitch on their system. Give it a try again.

I am also wondering the same. I used the online app and created 10+ variation of the same photo, following their dimension also failed

Just renewed mine, my experience:
1. Online renewal last Friday (2 September) late morning.
2. Email received same day(!!) at afternoon 3.32pm, LULUS
3. Walked in on Tuesday 9am ish to Wangsa Maju branch (pre-selected in step 1). Place was PACKED FULL. Prepared 4 items as instructed by friends:
- IC
- existing passport
- printed copy of email showing application status (this is the only paper they see only, the rest handed to them for the processing)
- printed copy of receipt of online renewal
4. Got number, around 8 infront of me. Collection counters were #17-18, there were only my sequence of numbers (3000+) being called while there's another sequence (6000+) that had to go through many counters.
Interesting to note, 20-30mins into the wait, 6001 was finally called for collection counter. My mom who came along for other matters also spied a lady at the bakery nearby had 6050+ number. I can bet walk-in process with be turtle slow.
5. Got my number called in 30-40mins chop chop sign sign ciao.

Edit: looks like many struggled with photo but mine was buttery smooth... I paid RM 28 to have mine taken and processed at Shong Lee 1u, the expert sent me soft copy for upload. I guess she helped scaled down the file size to make it possible also.

I paid online few days ago and got the receipt. Photo sure will reject. So far haven't received any email on collection.

How do I proceed? Do I just print the receipt and go queue? Will they take new photo on the spot? The location is based on previous passport location UTC pudu.

Edit: just checked the status online. Application is still processing.

Should I wait another week? Or just go? Earlier posts suggest that the application process should be instant.

The tricky part on whether photos pass or not, seriously have no idea why some being rejected. Acquaintances have shared theirs were also taken at photo studio too but experienced rejection during the online renewal. If its due to file size too big - im guessing there should be some sort of notification that pops up when it failed to upload.

RM 28 for the photos though guess that's the market rate these days.

Managed to upload the photo shortly your message. The photo is the same which I used previous days, but it just got through magically

It was a waste of our time, if one person wasted 1 day, can imagine how much time in total the immigration has caused the people's effort to waste unproductively, yet they are talking about reducing the work hours cos they've reached satisfactory productivity level, what a joke

I renewed online for me n my wife,
took picture ourselves using smartphone at home,
save in RAW file.
take several shot better.
at first upload always failed, after a while OK and accepted.
after submit, next day morning ady got result accepted or rejected.
only my wife need to reupload coz she wearing tudung got shadow on forehead.
so retake picture with extra lighting n different style of tudung, less shadow.
finally accepted.
now waiting for pickup, we chose to pick at wife's hometown since rural areas not so much ppl.

Wait 3 days after 1st submission. If you already got the email say photo is rejected, go to the immigration where you already selected earlier. Line up and you’ll take a new photo on the spot so remember to wear passport photo appropriate attire!

for photo just used my celfone and apps to get the right size.
reply came back with reject due to photo.

went to imm office , they took my photo and thumbprint s again .. very fast 10 mins all done .
and requested to come back in 1 hour for collection .

for walk in s the wait is longer cos need to wait another round to pay the fee s. at another counter.

in short .
best to apply online , dont worry about photo , cos can retake by the officer in 1 min.
look for imm office with less crowds.

i did check the imm office at my hometown in perak.
my cousin went early 730AM to get number .
8 AM they start give numbers . those late comers just walk in already can get number but for afternoon .
after you submit to officer they will say come back in 1 hour to collect.
if your home is nearby can just go back home or mall and come back anytime before closing time to collect.
not so stress i think .

if site suggest reupload, then just reupload. remember to crop your photo to the correct specifications indicated by the dotted lines. If you go take photo on the spot then you'll join the huge queue with the senior citizens

it's not the file size, but the portrait dimensions. Many photo studios got the dimensions wrong, e.g. the face position, white space on top of the head, etc. When I uploaded my photo, I just scanned an old photo from the studio, but had to photoshop in extra white space on top, crop away the shoulder, etc. Once the portrait dimensions can fit the dotted lines in the website template, then it will definitely pass

After you submit everything, if you got the email from imigresen, you can directly go to the office the next day, no matter is LULUS or CAP JARI or anything.
If no email response, maybe in the SPAM? Or wait 3 days.

In case the photo you uploaded keep having an error, just anyhow try adjusting your face smaller within the border prepared, and adjust the brightness until it goes ok.
They usually won't use the photo you uploaded as they will still re-take a new photo for you at the counter on the spot!

Must remember to wear dark color collar t-shirt to renew in case you will be asked for a photo retake

The receipt must be printed out, they will collect it.

Bring along old passport + IC + hardcopy receipt.

Strangely, i thought photo studios in this business as the expert, would know better of the required dimension. Thats a lot of adjustment you did there hahaha.

But recall someone mentioned cant use back the same photo as your last passport --> then again its hearsay, not sure how legit.

Sounds like those photo studios need to buckle up!
The soft copy I received had
- <1mb in size
- clean background (I know the physical studio was a white cloth draped behind, so it created some shadows. The background removal was done professionally, even preserving my hair strands at the edges.
- more white space and shoulder shot than needed... but it allowed me to align the lines in the website template. Then again, I personally have photoshop/photo editing experience so it's also easy for me to self-validate my alignment by actually using photo editor rulers + print screening the sample given and paste onto mine to cross check, but I guess the best a photo studio could do was to get the dimension 100% correct to the point the user can just upload without the need to align anything

Yes. You will need to print out and bring the hard copy receipt.

Yes, as I know. It's a must. They will collect it and cross-check something.
The receipt won't be returned to you. They will keep it.

Only the people who fail to do online renewal, with evidence that it is system problem with errors screenshots are allowed to walk in without receipt.
