i'm too thinkin of it..
but, dentist told me that even i do it,
my teeth still will be apart each other
coz my teeth is small than my gums while growing.
( i own teeth apart each other)

I've been wearing them for about 6 months now. There is pain no doubt but I suppose the results will be worth it. So gotta put up with it =)

I'm sure there are ways to reduce that problem...

My treatment I think would be like the usual 2 years of braces. And I got mine for RM4200 from this dentist near my place in Kajang.

The doc says my teeth are wayy too big for my gums. Now all the teeth crowding together, so its not entirely straight. Not aligned to the gums. I got big teeth small gums. Not small gums actually, but the arc of the gums got a small radius =/

I did mine for RM2500, but since the dentist said he miscalculated, he refunded my mum all the money. The dentist knew my mum btw. What happened was this. The doc gave me the decision whether to pluck out 4 teeth or not. I opted not to, cause that would be so painful >.> and i'd have to wear braces for 3 years or more to fill the gaps. But if it fills, my set of teeth would be perfect. I didn't want to because i'd have to wear them for so long. And that was during my upper secondary, u know getting to know the opposite sex better. So i thought "wtf, must wear for 3 years, 3 years the girls will shy away from me. no way!" so i opted not to pluck out the 4 teeth, resulting in me only having braces for 1 and a half years. But i didn't make it perfect, that way. The dentist felt it was his fault for not forcing me to take out the 4 teeth. So he refunded

Yeah, he refunded, but i'm not sure if my mum accepted the full refund. Maybe half only, as i said they both know each other. Hmm? Retainer? As in like, temporary braces you have to wear at home or at night to stop the teeth from moving back? My teeth moved back a little too

Sigh. 1 of my back molars got no space to grow, in the end it decided to grow in the middle of nowhere >.> not obvious when i talk or smile but when inspect my mouth, its freaky to see 3 molars fighting for 2 molars space

And then theres this problem, my teeth is freaking yellow >.>
Its not like i smoke or dont brush my teeth or anything. I even floss damnit

I wore braces too, for around 2 1/2 - 3 years. Was reaaaally painful, especially every month when I go to the dentist to err 'tighten' it, the next few days after that its kinda painful to chew on hard food

But yeah like everyone else said, its worth it. I had bad 'rabbit teeth', and was nicknamed 'Rabbit' in Primary school LOL, but after I took em off I was 'Rabbit' no more, which in a way boosted my self confidence haha.

I was given retainers and instructed to wear em' every night, but being the lazy ol' me I only put em' on like erm.... once in every 2 weeks (sometimes maybe once a month LOL) and my bottom tooth has shifted and became 'senget'

With that being said, I think I should start wearing my retainers regularly now

PS: My teeth are quite yellow too, more yellow than the usual yellow, and I'm a girl so I don't smoke, don't drink coffee and I brush my teeth regularly. I asked the dentist once and he said it may be due to taking too much antibiotics when I was younger (I was a weak girl and had bad lungs). Went to a GP (General Practitioner) and he said the same thing too.... I guess it can't be helped unless you bleach it or go for laser treatment, but I heard laser treatment makes your teeth more sensitive, so I think I'm going to be stuck with yellow teeth forever haha....

my teeth is yellowish too...If I go for the normal cleaning treatment also useless, coz a few days later...it'll get back to the original colour..

last time when i 1st wear retainer, i felt very uneasy, very tight and pain at times, coz i dun wear in the morning, so the teeth might have moved abit..
down part of my teeth oso moved alot.. not straight adi nothing i can do about it unless i go for braces 2nd round.. if i have the money haha

if tat's ur original colour, no matter how hard u brush, the colour still remains, unless u do those whitening..
the harder u brush, the worse ur teeth might get.. thinning of teeth so juz be normal..

Yeah, whitening isn't actually whitening. Its just the scraping off of your enamel (the hard outer-layer of your tooth). But its so sad that this is my natural teeth colour =/ At least its not too yellow.

Xromix, your GPs say its due to too much antibiotics consumption? =/
Maybe mine was too. But i dont remember taking alot of antibiotics. I just had mild asthma, but it got better as i grew up (touch wood)

Anyway, my couz just took off her braces and says she doesn't like wearing retainers too, coz when she does, her pronounciation becomes different. Everything also start with "sh". Lol.

I'm had my braces on for about 7 months now.
Mine cost RM3200, should be worn for 1 and half year..
Not so severe case, rabbit teeth and no tooth removed for me.

Pain?
Yes its painful, like Xromix said it, every visit (every month) to the dentist. but after a few months you'll get used the pain and you'll know how to deal it.

My dentist told me, the retainers is a MUST MUST MUST after the braces are removed. If not, the tooth will move back.

Having braces kinda made me afraid to eat certain types of food especially veggies like spinach and bean sprouts. It'll get stuck and will be so very disturbing until it is removed. Ugh.

I had protruding canines ie. vampire teeth on my upper jaw.

I had braces for my upper jaw, and extracted two teeth to make space.
I think I wore retainers for almost 6 months in the beginning to pre-move the teeth and later almost 2 years of permanent braces and then another year of retainers to make sure that they don't move after the braces were removed.

Never regretted having them on because the difference is really alot after having braces, and my teeth now look so much better than they were before and furthermore I had it done in the governemnt hospital, and since my mum is a government servant, I got it done for free.

My advise, go for it if you have the chance/opportunity, so far I havne't heard of anybody who wasnt satisfied with the outcome.

However, few things to keep in mind. Your oral hygiene during the duration of the treatment must be good because naturally bits and pieces of food will get stuck and try to brush as often as possible.

Do not be lazy in wearing your retainers, they do help in the treatment.

Be prepared to endure some ulcers and cuts in the inner mouth due to them being brushed by the wires and studs.

And of course, keep to your dentist appointment.

the last time i checked, government orthodontic clinic RM700 (RM500 for braces + RM200 for retainers)..and it's free if your parents works for the government, all u need is a letter from the boss, kaotim! FOC! =D

cheaper than all the private orthodontic clinic, but u gotta wait reaaally long enough to get it done.

i was in the waiting list since form 4, that was like 6 yrs back, got it done 4 years ago, wore it for about 1 year plus, now retainers at nite only..

get it done at government/private clinic doesnt make much difference. maybe u can get colored band/braces at private clinic but the overall outcome is still the same if u really take good care of your teeth during this period....

agree with supercolossal. oral hygiene is really important. you wouldnt want ppl to be covering their noses whenever talkin to you rite

Actually u can get colored band/braces at GH as well,a friend of mine had her braces at a GH and once in a while she'll change the colour to yellow,blue,red,etc...quite colourful

I seriously need braces,2 teeth(one left one right) beside my 2 front teeth is at the inner part of my gum...that's the consequence of not plucking out the teeth when the new ones are coming out,really regret now Can't afford to a private clinic,while the GH has to wait for soooooo long....

Can dentist 'lock' fake teeth on our gum by screwing it on to the gum? like screw it with a nail or something...thought it would be a solution for my teeth problem except braces...

got my braces off n just started to wear it early tis month.. wearing braces is much better than retainer.. at least im comfortable with it.. after two days i stopped wearing my retainer.. im sure my dentist gonna scold me if he notices anything moving..

now got more advanced braces. it is called damon 3. no need to pluck 4 teeth anymore. just wear it at it is cos its self adjust and less treatment time compare to traditional braces. no more tightening every month laaa haha

so far there's only 1 dental that i know who does this. it's Q-Care dental in taman tun.

i went for the appointment already to wear this. it costs around 6k. but actually im more interested in invisalign but i dont think its available here yet. totally invisible and people cant even notice ure wearing one. its transparent bracket where u can remove while eating!!!

I wore transparent braces..it's the same effect as the metal ones. I hated my monthly tightening...can't eat anything but porridge after the appointment. YUCK

well, i wish to do crowning and bridging instead of using braces approach. I heard that wearing braces is somehow painful n left us with uneasy feeling. can i use bridging and crowning for faster results?

there is a dental practice in desa jaya. do you know perfection n mcdonalds? well, it's one of the shop lots upstairs around that area. it's called Ong Dental. i haven't had braces done there before. i did it somewhere else but i go to him for all the other dental services and he has been doing a good job.

I did mine in SS 15, Subang. Bout 5K. I only have to tighten it like every 2 months. When you first have it on, you'll get ulcers daily and can't eat properly. Give it a month or so and you won't feel a thing already.

Removable braces are less effective than the permanent braces. For adults, the process will be a little more painful, and will take longer. For kids, it's less painful and it can be done in about 10 or so months. Alot faster for kids.

Small town dentist charge alot less, I did mine for about RM2.5-3k and it's almost done. For adults, after each tightening/adjusting the teeth will hurt like hell for a day or two till you get use to the adjustment. You'll get ulcers the first couple of weeks, but every time you make some adjustments, or change brackets, or whatever you'll get cuts, ulcers, etc. Then things will be fine till you have to tighten/adjust it again a few weeks later.

Of course, you gotta make some sacrifices. You can't eat apples, pears, etc unless you cut it up first. Also, gotta brush your teeth after every meal. You can't floss. But the worst part is the scaling. Whoa, really painful.

Q-care in taman tun is quite far for me.

the dentist I went is in Taman Maluri....that's is the branch actually, so the orthodontist is only available on tuesday and thursday from 6pm-9pm. His main office is somewhere near Midvalley.

oh hey.. well.. braces for me not painful at all.. i pluck 4 teeth.. and my dentist say will be done in one and a half year's time.. tightening bite chicken summore.. and her tightening took less den 10 minutes.. trust me.. she's pro.. my dental clinic in PJ, branch in SS2 and pudu.. it's private.. price fixed to 3.5k.. no extra paying for anyone who has to go for extra treatment.. tat is included one retainer but exclude x-ray.. transparent braces are not really transparent.. still hav metal.. less effective plus not all can wear.. onli not-so-bad condition can wear.. permanent braces is da best.. removable one din work AT ALL.. retainers better wear.. 3 days is enuf to make ur teeth move.. unless ur teeh is still not-so-bad... coz some of them wear to join da fun onli.. lolz.. can ask me more.. i kinda got experience coz for project kinda did survey and asked ppl who gone through it.. and i'm wearing too..

Any recommendation for dentist doing braces around Cheras?

i was about to do my braces few years back but have to hold on to it coz i was about to study in australia.
i rmbered the orthodontist told me about plucking four precious teeth too. but now i'm done with my studies, i wanna do it too.
how long do you have to go back the clinic for tightening and how long do u have to wear the retainer?

i'm happy to wear it, and cost RM4k++. Dentist decide to take out my braces last few months but i decided not to as I feel nicer if put it on.

Most of my friend that wore felt the same way as I do. But most of them dislike wearing braces. why leh?

i agreed with grimm... my teeth kinda turned yellow due to the scrapping of the instrument ( duno wat its called) against my teeth... when taking out the braces dat time. now one of my tooth kinda chipped wey

that's a very stereortpye thinking of yours.

as much as you may have certain prejudice to these people (or i may say ), they dont prioritize those whose parents are gov servant (maybe in certain cases) nor people with super bad teeth condition. the only reason (i can think of) why people wont go to gov clinic is becoz of the long queue - a minimal waiting period of 2 years, some even more though it's super cheap.

i waited almost 2 1/2 years (although my dad is in the government sector) and about 3 months or so for follow ups (include tooth extraction, etc etc), before they actually fixed the braces onto my teeth. wore it for less than 2 years, then, on retainers till now. i wear it every other day, as u said, "3 days is enuf to make ur teeth move".. =)

and as i know, usually, orthodontic patients usually will get their braces removed the fastest, 2 years time. so i dont think they gov clinic are very selective on their patients, though gov clinics are the base for training for these dentist-to-be, they still have code of conduct or ethics to follow and i'm sure they're not that stupid enough to give up their chance of becoming a qualified dentist

even in some cases, paying more doesnt guarantee perfect set of teeth.

dentists are also human. they do have emotional issues sometimes, so, at times, u'll get certain dentist who are rough during treatment and so on, even for private clinic dentist. no one is prefect. so i suppose, it's unfair to judge government dentists, maybe simply based on what you heard from others.

and please dont put all the blame on the orthodontics. the final outcome on how your teeth will look like also depends on how you take care of it

fyi, am not a dentist trainee, am not working in the government sector, but i did receive treatment from them. i cant say i'm happy with the "layanan" most of my visit to the clinic, but i'm happy with the outcome

Apart from Q-CAre in tddi, where can one get Damon 3 braces?

Maybe u should check previous posts....

i've been wearing braces for the past 3 years (nx feb will be fourth)
and the doc said i still have a long way to go...
can't wait for the day to actually take it out!!

So, if my teeths is well alligned, but I have a big teeths, all my teeths are BIG !! (same size but BIG)

Can braces reduce the size of teeth? (I am willing to take out a few teeths !!)

Or i got small gap (small, like HALF of a gap ). Anything can do other than braces ?

Any recommendation dentist for Butterwoth or Penang Main Island ?

I found one at Bangsar, having a branch at Taman Maluri. Quoted me ~RM5.6k - RM5.8 for Damon 3.(exclude RM220 diag report x2 (before & after) & any extract) )

I wore braces many many years ago. Gov clinic. Waiting list was I think a year or so about RM500 tat time. Now dun know increase or not. The service was Ok even though each time I turn up for appointment I need to wait not like private appointment immediate service. But still i felt it was worth it both the price and result.

My gaps (my two big front teeth, like Madonna lor) came back so I decided to go for this crowning cos its just impossible for me to go through the whole process again.

if i apply at gov clinic fr braces, then how long should i wait for my turn?

At last, I installed my braces at Bangsar on last Monday. Just on upper teeth first, the lower will do it on later stage.

depends on the area. for me i registered when i was in form 1 but waited till form 5 only got to wear
after 18 they wont let u register or fix for u anymore

ya. i think gov orthodontic treatment only applicable for students only.

but i'm not sure if u get it done at the army. they do have orthodontic facilities in the army i guess u have to have people working in the army for u to get the treatment

owh. how much total u'll pay for the braces in the bangsar? the deposit? & how much u should pay in evry visit? what clinic is it?

I am taking Damon 3 system (consider new system), so a bit expensive than tranditional type.

The cost is about RM5800, they give me RM200 discount due to I am their regular customer.

1st time visit payment is RM 970 for
. RM 750 deposit
. RM 200 - 2 X-ray, mold & photo

2nd visit payment is RM750 plus misc (auto/manual tooth bush, toothpaste, etc - depend on what you buy)
. RM 750 deposit
. RM ??? -misc cost
. They will install braces on this visit and ask you to sign contract agreement.

3rd visit onwards is installment plan (~RM300) & braces adjustment for total of another 14 visits. Last visit will pay around RM200.

very much detailed. thanks.. if u would hv braces, i would just have the normal braces, the traditional one.. bcz my teeth are not really in the bad condition.. and i more, its more cheaper than damon3.. do u knw how much it cost for traditional braces at the clinic u go?

I remember they quoted ~RM4800 ++ for full braces. Suggest you walk in. First time consult is FOC.

so far i did my research, the cheapest is 3.5 and normal one is 5k.
just wonderin if u guys do the colorful braces or normal one?

I do the normal one (Damon 3 system). Colourful one is for lady / kids ? According to dentist, the transparent is look nice, more expensive but it take longer time to complete. So, suggest go for normal one and take Damon 3 system if your financial can effort

let's c...7 years back? gosh it's been so long!!!
did it for arnd 3k and had in on for 3 years...

i had rabbit teeth plus what we usually call "vampire's tooth" at my upper jaw
and there's another tooth located right behind one of my front tooth
yep, my condition was horrible
i couldnt actually bite properly with my front teeth... (eating wantan mee is a horrible process coz the noodles r vry thin)
the orthodontist told me that he would need to extract 4 of my teeth, "expand" my upper jaw, and of course there were many other processes

after the braces were removed, i waited for 1 week for d retainer to be done
and during tht period my front teeth already started to move!
my 2 front teeth kinda moved a lil in front
the orthodontist then tried to kinda forcefully push em back and pushed on the retainer
i chose the transparent retainer, broke it and got the metal 1

and now, after so many years, i still nid 2 wear a retainer at night coz the damn teeth keeps movin'

OMG.. after so many year, the teeth still can moving ? Hmm..so troublesome..

the transparent retainer easy to broke ? caused by drop down? since it wear on night time at home, why the retainer need transparent ? (Sorry, i don't know how it look like )

yep, i guess it's bcoz i grind my teeth at night
chose the transparent 1 bcoz initially need to wear it day n night for arnd few weeks if nt mistaken
the orthodontist didnt charge me for the replacement retainer though~must have earned enough

i've had my braces took off and currently wearing retainer.. just curious, usually how long will i need to wear it? and yes, i do feel my teeth start moving few hours after removin it, so i usually put it all day long..

do we need 2 extract our teeth for damon 3??????

normally, no need to extract your teeth. Unless too serous..anyhow, the dental who have that system will able to consult you. no worry

mine one on second month plus..next week is third month.. i can see the teeth is adjusted a bit

i just got my braces at how's orthodontic. i go for ''Clippy-C''-invisible one. My condition: One of my front tooth
45degree senget outward. Dr said this Clippy-C is the advanced version of Damon3. Less pain & faster result.
doctor put the braces on the upper side first.(he said put the lower side on next month)

the 5th day, the wire come out from the last bracket on my upper left side. I left it like that for 2days, then I make appointment to the doctor to fix it.
For my surprise, the wire of my front teeth did not move, even though the wire behind lose and out of the last bracket..
I think this is what they call it ''self-ligating'?
Actually i'm wondering what different between 'self-ligating' with normal one? I don't really understand the idea.
can someone clear me out? i asked my doctor, but he said that it's not 'automatic adjusting/tightening'..

For invisible or visible bracket, its depend on ppl on preferences la..but, i did not regret take the invisible one, coz, ppl hardly can see the i wear braces(especially when take photo ,in certain distance..not very close-up la)..and the bracket is smaller ..so,its more easily to get used to it and close mouth(i face d difficulties to talk and close mouth in the 1st week)

Today, Dr. put a "bite stop" behind my front teeth. Now, my back teeth can't touch each other when close my mouth.. I have to find a way to from today onwards.. Going to thiner and thiner..

today is 3rd month.. i can see my teeth is move slightly in..if press the teeth, it can move a bit

nowadays if I goyang my teeth using my fingers, it will goyang lah... I guess it's normal...

How to eat ? Since the day i putting the "bite stop", i can take rice or anything require to chew.. what i can do for my lunch and dinner is cook porridge, then put in vege, meal or fish into blender and blend together.. then eat..

next thusday will go to Lang Tengah for 4D3N trips.. i don't know how to settle my meal

you ganas still can eat, i believe the gap between upper and lower teeth is quite near ba.. my case is not..

Hello. I'm interested to get brace within this year as I've been longing to do it since young. Coz my teeth is not in a good order
I've received lots of different feedbacks from my friends,some said not pain some said pain until cannot eat. Well,I do understand that there are pain but i just wanted to know how pain is the level of pain. Unbearable till cannot sleep at night? Cannot even move the jaw?

Well... different ppl got different tolerence to pain... and... different type of braces got different level of pain too.. but one thing is sure.. there's gonna be pain... but not so extreme until cannot sleep la I think.. the pain might be a bit disturbing and annoying but dun think so it's THAT painful ....but the first week might be a bit pain la.. coz ur teeth wanna adjust to the braces mah...

the cause of pain might be from the braces itself....
other than that will be the ulcers loh....

in other words.. no pain no gain!

but after all those pain.. when u see ur teeth all well aligned.. WAH! worth it....

I think my hunger mendorong me to be so ganas...

but i understand... when he put the bite stop last time also very hard for me to chew leh.. coz ur upper jaw and lower one like cannot bite together rite...they dun even in contact! but what to do??? eat porridge loh....

Hi all~

I'm done with my braces around 2 years ago... guess i can share some of my experiences here ....

i'm having a nice teeth after being suffered for 1 and the half year ....

about the extraction of teeth question, actually most of my frens including me did need extraction of healthy teeth due to normally the untidy growing fo teeth is due to they dont have enough spaces to grow accordingly.

U'll probaly suffer pain in the very first week since your teeth are trying to adjust but the later on days you'll only suffer a bit pain for around 3 days (for my case) after each month appointment to tighten ur braces.
