They are few tips getting 4.0 Mbps to your house, ask the technician to come to your house and check ur line capability ( Sometimes TM.Nut won't entertain this ) But i managed to fix 4.0 Mbps even though my house is not in their System for 4.0 Mbps. This will take a lot of effort for them to do it. Do remember u mess be less than 2km from DSLAM to support 4.0 Mbps otherwise it won't work. They will check your ADSL status latency to confirm your line support or not.

no point if u have tat kind of speed and bt download speed only 3kb
and btw, the ad tell us all :

-4.0mbps JUST for SURFing. whats the point?????
-Get your info before others. whats the definition of INFO?????
-Have your file downloaded in the blink of an eyes. if only tm stop throttling.
-Do more thing using less time. if only u stop using tm broadband, u achieve this.
-Thats the ADVANTAGE....u pay more just for faster surfing, is tat ADVANTAGE?
-Introduction price RM198, Normal price RM268. rather donate to the poor, than to TM.

AND THE BEST OF ALL,

EVERYONE, READ THE small WORDING JUST BESIDE TM LOGO :

Speed of service is at BEST EFFORT. GET IT EVERYONE?????

having experienced 8mb line b4, i think 4mb will be quite okay pending a few factors that you have a good quality line that can support that speed and u get the good ip range that having less throttling on it, then i think should be allright, but price still a bit expensive

Added on May 17, 2007, 9:11 ambtw today is world telecommunications day so that is why the package launched today to conincide with this day i think smile.gif

Compare with singapore, streamyx cant fight with them at all....
Other country, their speed is 10m edi....
Even 100m also got edi....
Their 10m sumore can get the speed that they suppose to get....
Unlike ours, 1m package, but speed like 56k.....

haha not forgetting your wallet is being drained 4 times faster.. tongue.gif

i dont see the point actually of subscribing to faster speeds esp in malaysia..
since our international link is only "ye" big...

if i sub 4mbps what "real" speed will i be getting ? since this 4mbps is still under their so called "best effort", maybe the first 6th month they will monitor and make us happy and later on its back to square 1.. the speed will drop the quality will drop and etc..

whats the point.. even now with our 512kbps and 1mbps package, we can't even get a stable traffic/throughput...

i say we all are much hated but forced streamyx users just ignore this promotion.. until they managed to provide reliable service for their lower packages...

they seem to forget that, they intro new package and upgrade their equipment a little bit, but they FORGOT THE MOST important thing.. THE DELIVERY aka PHONE LINE QUALITY, which happen to suck is soo soo many ways and places

Anyone in their right mind would not pay RM200 every month just to be disappointed by the fact that their line is being control and limited by the ISP.

I feel like punching the face of any promoter who keep using the word UNLIMITED access... bloody liar

WTF SO EXPENSIVE FOR 4 MBPS !!!

IS THIS EVEN FOR RESIDENTIAL OR A BLOODY BUSINESS !!

THey mock and mock us residential consumers more and more. Affordable 4 mbps ?? HAH!

Not only are we paying for 1 mb broadband that compared to other countries cost the same for 10 mb to 100 mb broadband, their trying to make us pay A MUCH COSTLIER PRICE that is even more a rip off than before !

it's still torrent throttled !!!! ( i use Xunlei so i can get by this... but the price ... wtf )

Somebody should complain to the government about tmnuts CRAPPY pACKAGES !

No one here has money to waste on 4 mbs ( which i suspect would be like 2 mbps actually or lower .... ) throttled torrent, and a so expensive price.

If you think that rm198 / month is expensive, you might want to take a closer look. The non-promotional price is rm268 / month.

Let me tell you guys...

Those newbies out there do not know about TM Net.

We should put out flyers stating "No to TM Nut"

How many newbies will know that TM Nut is throttling?

How many people will visit LYN just to learn about TM Nut?

funny the official tmnet streamyx - is not updated

http://www.tm.net.my/html/htm/product_streamyx/packages.htm

also if you compare with Singapore broadband at S$ 68.00
or RM 152.00 for 10Mbps

http://www.singnet.com.sg/plans_and_servic....asp?snbb=KOatl

BUT do not forget they earn Sing dollars
- so it is 68 for 10 Mb and RM 198 for 4Mb - which one is better ?

BUT what to do ?

All 4Mbps package will be connected through a IP DSLAM which supports ADSL2+ and these IPDSLAMs are all connected through the advertised METRO-e network which is suppose to be faster than our normal ATM network which most of the normal DSLAMS are connected to. What I'm saying is the bandwidth is much higher as the METRO-e network is up to 1Gbps compared to the normal ATM speed which is up to 155Mbps. So let's see if the 4Mbps package is really faster and smoother than our normal package.

RM66 was once 384kbps and then up to 512kbps. so of course if its upgrade, then u will get the new speed right away.

But I think its just the usual assumption that new speed package would mean the older ones will all be increased as well. But since this 4mbps is only limited to Selangor areas, we should just keep our hopes down first...

So if anybody wants this better do thise within a week or 2 =_=;

i doubt anymore people will be subscribing to this after the price is back to normal....

From tmpoint they said my place is outside the 3 km range from the exchange point.

Guess by how much ? I'm 4 km away from the exchange point. Just a measly 1 km !!! WTF !

Adsl 8 mbps can reach 18,000 ft (5,500 m) so how come i am not covered vmad.gif

umm 4mbps is not good for BT, but it will rock for all eMule user since most ISP can't stop eMule Protocol OB encryption at the moment =D..

i'm BT user, i dont see any problem for BT since i always get over 100kbps download if the seed is hot like naruto, bleach etc.

I completely agree with the statement above. Only a complete idiot will pay RM198 for a THROTTLED 4Mb package. Why do you want to pay so much just to surf? It would be nice if everyone didn't bother to subscribe to this new package. Then that will tell tmnut that we all very angy and mad like hell at them. Also we have the infamous "BEST EFFORT" tag on the 4Mb package. With this, do you think you will even get 80% of the 4Mb you are paying for? I seriously doubt it when 99% of 1Mb subscribers are complaining everyday of their slow speeds.

U should listen, 4mbps is only for the lucky one, look at ur SNR first, if its under 20 dun bother to subscribe. 4mb is only for those under 2km from the exchange. 4km is like the maximum and at the brink of disconnection. Abit problem then u will dc often.

Will appreaciate if any user who upgrade/subscribe to this promotion 4mbps package update us in term of speed & performance with BT or without BT before the end of promotion period... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

OMFG !!!!! GUESS WHAT.

The chart comparison

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/vdsl3.htm
*
You appear to have misunderstood the table. ADSL maximum theoretical speed is 8mbps although IIRC this speed is only ever achieved in lab conditions. Maximum distance is 5.5km (although the maximum distance depends on several factors like line quality).

ADSL (indeed all DSL) drops off over distance due to line attentuation. Take a look at this graph http://www.internode.on.net/adsl2/graph/. Make sure you read the text. This is theoretical only. In reality, in all countries no one reaches the theoretical because no one has a perfect line. Indeed, I would say 2.5mbps would be very good for a 4km line. 1 'measly' km makes a very big difference when you consider the maximum theoretical distance of 5.5km. Your line can probably achieve higher then 1mbps but Telekom I presume is only willing to subscribe people who's line can probably achieve close to 4mbps otherwise there will be no end of complaints. Indeed, I suspect they may reject customers if they find they can't achieve a desirable speed even if within distance...

As you might notice from the graph, things aren't actually getting much better for people with a resonably long line even with newer standards. The graph doesn't show but VDSL2 can achieve up to 50 mbps at 0.5 km but at 1.6 km it's about the same as ADSL2+.

From memory, some people are no longer capped at the line but instead capped at the IP level. If you're not capped at the line then you will know if you can achieve 4mbps or not. It's still unclear but if Telekom is using ADSL2+ then you might achieve a bit higher speed but if your speed is like 2mbps, don't expect it to get much better with ADSL2+...

Your only hope really is that Telekom will eventually install another exchange so you aren't so far from it....

I read that vdsl solved their distance problem by using fiber optics, and using the last mile can reach the residential.

Problem solved.

I only don't see the isps getting off their butts and implementing current working solutions.

They only need look at korea, honkong or japan :/

Nevermind vdsl, we don't even have adsl 2 ( had this tmnut adsl 2 ready modem for years.... the irony ..... why even brag adsl 2 ready modem when the isp never ever going to offer adsl 2 ? Damn assholes ). Even 4 mb isn't adsl 2 sad.

u know their masterplan cheating plan?

for everyone who subscribes for 1MB line, they will throttle the bandwidth by a few kilobytes.

So when u add up all the 'throttled kilobytes'....

TADAAA!!!!! U CAN NOW OFFER A 4MB limited pkg to other PPL!!!!! ITS SO EASY! ITS TMNET! Best public listed cheating GLC !!!! rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif

They steal from their current subscribers bandwidth ....so they can add more fresh meat... notworthy.gif....best marketing strategy for a monopoly company.

I seriously doubt it when 99% of 1Mb subscribers are complaining everyday of their slow speeds.

hmm... i don't know why so many of you are getting such crappy service. for me, my speeds have been fantastic. even now as i am on the 1mbps package, my download speeds are usually about 140-160kBps (including torrent downloads - my well-seeded tv shows downloaded weekly, programs, etc). that's about 1.1-1.3mbps, more than what i subscribed for. rclxms.gif

i have decided to become a guinea pig as well, and will be going to tmnet to upgrade to this 4mbps package because, firstly i need the speed for my downloads and online stuffs, and secondly... because GATAL! 4MBPS ok! dun play play... i know some of u say it's a con job or a scam etc, but so far I am quite happy with my net service.

hopefully, the experience will be a good one, and I will gladly share it with everyone here in the forums. i know tmnet has had its ups and downs, but for me, their internet service has been quite good. so yes, if the outcome is great, I will share. and if sux, then I will share and vent and join the rest of you angry people too! icon_rolleyes.gif

so yes, 4mbps or less than 4mpbs is still ok. afterall, it sure beats using dialup!

Hmmm, just realised about this new package thingie >_<"

Anyways was going through the T&C for fun, thought I will rant about it from there biggrin.gif
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speed of service is on 'best effort basis'.
Oooooooo... the famous Streamyx slogan!

Monthly subscription fee of RM198 is applicable only for customers who subscribe before 17th June 2007. Customers who subscribe after 17th June 2007 will be charged at a normal rate of RM268.
HUH?!?!? You CROOK! You going to charge a normal rate of RM268 for a measly 4mbps line that is probably going to get throttled like fark for some blerdy reason. RM198 is already expensive (IMHO)

The 1st bill received will include installation fee of RM88 and one time service activation fee of RM75, a one month subscription fee (from the date of service activation) and an advance charge of the second month subscription fee.
Why dont they allow exisiting users to upgrade to 4mbps straight... ahhh here comes the answers. Time to EARN from installation and activation fees.

Customers are not allowed to downgrade during the minimum subscription period.
Yeah so if it is stinks, too bad... stick with it or terminate it somehow.

Minimum bandwidth for tmnet BB phone is 128Kbps per call.
I wonder why they must put this out... does this means every single packat transfer will be throttled to 128kbps after you doing "excessive" downloads?

Streamyx terms & conditions apply.

Sheesh, this thread is quick to turn into a rant thread. I believe RM 198 is quite a reasonable price, for their pricing strategy (try 66+ 22x7), unless you want to say the price increase should be +22 only when the speed is doubled.

Whatever you guys want to say, I do think the price is more reasonable, compared to the 2 mbps package. Again, terms and conditions apply, like how you need to pay rm 268 a month if you were to start subscribing late.

Don't forget about teh throttle, lol. This would work great with VPN service and all the other bypassing method available on the net, though.

I'm interested, but again, like I'm going to use all that speed. I'm not going to download a lot anyway.

What's the upload speed anyway?

I can afford to pay the rm 198 for the 4km, but guess what, i'm only 4 km away from the exchange but their saying you need to be 3 km !! DIE TMNUT !!!

I may be able to afford it but i tell you if you look overseas you would know we are paying PREMIUM PRICES for the same shit that other countries are paying much lesser for.

TMNUT WANT TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE IT'S A FAIR PRICE WHEN ITS NOT ! Don't look at local broadband and prices then say ah, not bad for double the speed. This is the wrong way to look at it. Fookin tmnut vmad.gif

Anyway enough of the speed speculations, DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY HAVE THIS YET AND CAN TELL US WHAT THE download speed is like ?

We all know already the price is a con, but performance still not sure yet >->;

Oh i just want to add, even if it is throttled, i do alot of direct downloads like rapidshare ( not even premium account ) and i get like 100-140 kbps.

For torrent i use Xunlei i can get 170 kbps depending on whether the torrent is seeded well.

Yes tmnut throttles ( not sure if this 4mbps is though ), but there many free ways to bypass their crap.

I'm still skeptical whether this will reduce latency especially to World of Warcraft servers located in the Us, if it does i would call it a success.

My main concern with my connection atm is not whether i'm getting the advertising bandwidth, but whether I can get decent latency on my connection as I use my connection for gaming. I would love to have a 4Mb connection to catch up with my Swedish friends with 100Mb connections, but it just seems like giving it to blackmail if i get enticed for this offer.

Well, if anyone does get the new 4mb connection within the promotion period, I would be most grateful if you would run some pings/tracerts for me so that i can make a decision on whether to give in to blackmail or not.

Too expensive.. even if i were to ignore the fact that TMnet is throttling the one and only reason for a high speed connection. The price itself is too expensive. I doubt people will pay that much for that price. With or without the promo..

next thing you know is that htey say, you can watch video streaming!! oh but youtube and what not are all throttled to 1kb/s...

Right, 4Mbps, its alot. 500kBps speed, thats holy cow. RM267 per month, even holier. We should stay positive with a fair weather smile about it.

Now lets see. What site can you surf with 4Mbps line that will utilize that RM267 that you pay? Download lecture notes at 500kbps, sounds fun.

Logic would say that practically, RM267 is overkill. Would you pay RM3200 every year to surf lowyat.net? Or perhaps download the latest driver for your video card. Well, I could do the same with RM792 every year, and use the rest of the money to get a GeFroce 8800 card, every year biggrin.gif

i called tmnet 1300-88-1500 <<< call this to inquire, check line distance*

the package come with a 1 time installation fee of RM88 where the technical guy come and install the modem + test the line speed, if it's ok then they will charge u the installation fee else they going to waive the fee if the speed can't be reach.

the line would be 4MB download and 512k UPLOAD with "BEST EFFORT BASIS", if your unhappy with the speed after installation u can ask them to rebate back the payment and downgrade back to 1.5MB

when u upgrade no question will be ask wink.gif
when u downgrade u better have damn good answer for it tongue.gif

the package is lifetime package paying only rm198 until promotion end you pay the actual price... too bad for the guys outside the kl and selangor places
the modem, if spoil you can change it etc lightning strike, failure

the line speed is not confirm better ping, but the operator hint it would be faster than the existing 1.5mb line in speed term, not juz the limit term of 4MB

thinking about upgrading but need some guinea pig to confirm izzit worth it to upgrade or not whistling.gif

Offerings of 4Mbps & 2Mbps is subject to distance limitation of maximum of 3km from exchange

what exactly does this mean? exchange?

so judging by your feedback from customer service, tmnet itself isnt even sure if the lines are capable of achieving 4mbps?

RM66 was once 384kbps and then up to 512kbps. so of course if its upgrade, then u will get the new speed right away.

But I think its just the usual assumption that new speed package would mean the older ones will all be increased as well. But since this 4mbps is only limited to Selangor areas, we should just keep our hopes down first...

Just called the stupid TMNet, i asked them why the package is not applied to corporate customer? they said this promotion is only applicable for home user, then i said, is it because you guys still want to sell lease line to customer. and they said lease line is TM product, not TMNet... WTF. is a LP-PL thing that the whole Malaysia knows that TMNet is a subsidy of TM and TMNet depends on TM last miles.

WTF they are doing, they are screwing their business, luckily i still have TIME DSL that is more stable than their crappy service.

just don't want to RANT here, but i really tahan their stupid attitude that (use it, we are the only ISP here, if not - Keluar dari Malaysia) stupid kind of attitude, just like those ministers....

Hmm.... actually, if you imagine there are one whole house of Uni students... at least ten of them...

each of them using RM198/10 = RM19 , and 4Mbps/10 = 400Kbps each

*aiyah, best effort basis...got 40Kbps also curi² laugh already lo~

but if I compare hor... RM198 / 10 get 4Mbps to share..
rather than get 2 lines of RM88 1Mbps to share....
2 lines of RM88 although it's cheap ...yeah it.s CHEAP!
2Mbps go and share la... share until you will die...LOL
2 x 88 = RM 176 almost RM198 la... I rather get the 4Mbps to Pok abit..lol * No pok at rk house...la~

1 in flying spaghetti monster, another 8 Bt-ing or Emule-ing...sure kanasai frustrating lag...

lol...blue-server became flying spaghetti monster... automatic replace one...don't blame me~ rclxub.gif

Just got some info from TM's technician. The new basic 4096kb/512kb package is using the VDSL technology with monthly charges - RM198 (only for those who register before 17 June 2007). It means that the user only have to pay RM198 until you terminate the line.
For those who register after 17 June 2007 (monthly charges = RM268 till you terminate the line). VDSL modem will be provided by TM and the max speed of VDSL is 52mb downstream and 12mb upstream

Well I willing to give it a try for one year & test out the performance; if regret then downgrade back after one year loh... since nobody can confirm whether it is BT throttled or not...
Hopefully, the online gaming server ping time is better than current one.

I just hope my area (Kepong Maluri) is covered & my copper line wouldn't fail me with severe dc problems....

4Mbps is not faster surfing... i can bet same surfing speed... just more bandwidth... which translates to = u can open more websites at the same time and expect all the sites to load concurrently....

remember.... more bandwidth =X= more speed..

should be cause our normal modem isnt a VDSL modem..
btw who says its based on VDSL anyway ?
i thought its based on ADSL2+ ???

ADSL2+ <> ADSL <> VDSL
*
They are using vdsl technology
This is what i heard from my friend who went to tmpoint for upgrading his line from RM88(1mb) to RM198(4mb). The people at TMPoint told my friend that the adsl/adsl2 modem cannot be use and TM will provide the VDSL Modem. The installation will takes 2-4 days to complete.

The people said that the 4mb line is using other DSLAM which is not connected to the RM66/RM88 DSLAM.... (I Don't get what does this mean?) Someone please clarify for this. Thanks

*
I can assure you the technician is just crapping, it isn't based on VDSL... it's running on ADSL2+ and the modem that TM will be providing for the 4Mbps package is the Billion BiPAC 5112s.

VDSL is offered by HGC. A 10 Mbit/s up and down connection costs less than $15 USD/month with a 12 months contract. $20 USD/month without any contract. Both with unlimited traffic.

right. adsl supports until 8mb
for 8mb above its adsl2 or adsl2+

regarding this new plan, i think its good but its too expensive, hope they dont impose a dl limit anytime soon

I would go metrofon first because it's 66 ringgit for 2 mb unthrottled.

Streamyx 4 mb throttled and cost 198 ringgit. and in a month any newer subscribers will be charged 267 ringgit .......

metrofon in terms of price/performance is much superior.

The sad fact is, it has very low coverage for residential area.... mostly condominiums sleep.gif;;;;

The government should recognise the last mile dillema and offer some incentive to wire up the last mil with fiber optic.

Whats the point of bragging we got alot of fiber all over when it isn't connected last mile and it's hardly even used ? Kinda waste of $ if they don't go all the way sleep.gif;

Just a quick info :

1. Like one forumer said here, it is based on IP DSLAM, not connected to the same broadband server, one of the reason there is 2 outage recently in Klang Valley, they have to shutdown certain DSLAM in order to migrate it.

2. WIMAX ?? Hehe, i got a friend working at wimax provider ( prefer not to say the name ) as their core ip engineer, dont expect everything is unlimited, like other companies, they also want to keep their network stable, yes confirmed from him, once the amount of customers grow, they will do the same as tmnet, throttling.

3. Maxis is only 3Gb, bare in mind.

4. 3km limitation to keep everything in control, otherwise you will get high line attenuation, unstable SNR.

i think most of the RM88 package has been upgraded to at least 1.5mb few months ago. currently i am paying RM88 per month and my connection speed is 2048/512. i am able to download at max 200 over kbps (not BT) but of course after they throttled BT, my max speed is around 30 over kbps sad.gif
*
may i know where are you from?
I am RM88 package user but I can't hit 2048..I am 1.5mbps here only but of course when i do bandwidth test i can't get 1.5mbps la..only 1.1~ 1.2mbps here..

All in all, dun upgrade lah, since it's useless, what's the point of having a fast connection if you cannot it use it, just like having a ferari on a kampung road.

Wow. If RM66, 2mbps and most important of all, unthrottled, that will make Metrofon the winner of all ISP hands down even if TmNet gives 4mbps @ RM66.

Even 40mbps RM66 by tmnet also i'd rather go for Rm66 2mbps unthrottle, seriously. icon_rolleyes.gif

Wasn't there some issue a while back with the governing delaying implementation of local loop unbundling (or in the case of streamyx unbungling) that would have allowed easier access to competitors?

In any case, hopefully some early adopters can come forward with some 4mb latency results before I ultimately give in to the black mailing.

this is a rumor i head from a friend of a friend who works at tmnut. he says the new 4Mb package will be THROTTLED since the connections are using the same DSLAMS with all the throttle hardware installed. If this is true, then the new 4Mb connection will be throttled the same like all of our existing connections. So no point in wasting more money to get a faster but throttled connection.

Oh... okay. I get what you mean. Hopefully it is not like that when the time comes and we consumers can at least have a choice even if it is running on TM backbone.

For us in Kuching, Streamyx is currently our only choice. My connection has been very, very unstable since beginning of May.

that;s why Malaysia BOLEH!!!! biggrin.gif broadband connection still staying at 1mbps .. now 4mbps at RM198..

In Certain europe country, already 1gbps .. YA 1 GB p/s using fibre optics..

& 4mb connection is for about RM100 nia. 6mb Rm150. that's the price for the most expensive ISP. there are so many ISP here till u dunno which 1 to choose.
I jsut dun get it why malaysia's ISP all stil stuck at the 1mb barrier.

According to today's NST Computimes pullout... TMNET spent RM600million on Metro.e. Wouldn't it have been better if they'd spent RM600million on upgrading infrastructure instead?

Vdsl and adsl +2 ? What a joke.

Adsl is 1-8 mb, Vdsl is much higher.... Vdsl also is 1.5 km range .... only can go further using fiber optics i heard. Korea and Japan has Vdsl for consumers already sleep.gif;

=_=: how can call 4 mb adsl 2 ? hah.

i dont think it's based on ADSL, it will be either ADSL2 or VDSL my guess only lar.., coz why need to create new userid, for previous cases of upgrade like 512 to 1mb, your userid still maintain , for this 4.0mb case need to have a new userid..just guessing only , until my line is up and i see what modem they giving tongue.gif

Dont forget guys, for 4mbps may sound good now, if it works, but dont forget WI-MAX is comming, It should be cheap and fast, if you sign up to the 4Mbps you are stuck there for 1Year.

For me, i dont need a home phone, so i can save RM26, plus there should be some choice ad there are a few Wi-max licences.

Dont get stuck for 1 year, when cheap fast broadband (Wi-Max), should be coming

TMNET should have spent the 600million on a long-term solution for current home-users instead of investing in Metro.e as WiMax is coming.

One year is short. After a year of using it surely the modem need to flash firmware as normally products in the market are always not a complete products that why a year we can have a few firmware upgrade.

Well of course if it is under 8mbps ADSL is sufficient but thinking of future where suddenly jump to higher bandwidth where everyone is ready. No matter how suck is TM they surely already on a progress for higher speed but the big question is when will it be for home users.

It is when after they have sucked out enough money from the "4mbps streamyx users & 1gbps MetroE SME subscribers". tongue.gif

sure no problem if you trust the link to be up 99%.
Or maybe put your T & C best effort for 99% uptime.
Seriously even i can't really keep my connection 100%, in a year surely a few down times.
Eventhough i am 80% satisfied with my streamyx but the other 20 % is the downtimes and BT slowness. I don't really recommend for hosting purpose unless you have secondary link.

having some issues with my upgrade..my installation order disseapeared, long story cut short ....line wont be up for another day or so....blame falls on TM shoulder actually and not TMNET ....again long story cut short...spent a fair bit of the afternoon today speaking to the highers ups sitting in comfy offices and the lower ranked underlings sitting in exchanges managing switches & jumpers in TM and also TMNET , my suggest is for those who wanna upgrade prepare to lose your line for a week at least, my case might be an isolated one though...

I'm going to give the 4 Mbps package a try. I'm already on the 2 Mbps package for RM188 so I might as well pay RM10 more for 4 Mbps. Will let you guys know how the process is. Applied today and was informed it will take less than 9 days to install. Application very smooth in Damansara Utama TM branch.

Current speed I'm getting now is below.

remember.... more bandwidth =X= more speed..
*
Actually you are pretty much 100% wrong in this case. More bandwidth = faster-loading pages.

If having twice the bandwidth means you can load two 50K pages in half the time, then it also means you can load one 50K page in half the time.

Rayfoo : Sorry for bombarding you with more questions.. biggrin.gif

Do you have to pay installation fee and service activation fee again when you requested the upgrade at TMPoint? I'm on the RM88 package w/o modem atm and am considering to upgrade to this offer.

New login id means you can't keep your current email address or it's the same, just login ID changed?

Thanks.

instllation & service fee is applicable, will be billed to your bill, for this upgrade they will require their contractor to come over to do the installation for you, new login id but you can maintain your old streamyx email address

I applied for an upgrade at Shah Alam TMpoint, they don't even have it on their database. Still waiting for their call if my area can upgrade to 4MB.

i think it is better to have a few users to apply. Who knows one might experience a nitemare while other maybe a dream. TM network infra not consistent like in penang 1mbps package still is 1024 but mine 1mbps package is 1.5mbps dl, no consistency at all.

I had enuff with 1.0 mbps.....4.0 mbps means 4 times the headache, 4 times the regret and 4 times the loss....
*
im using 512 Kbps , means half your regret, half time the lost and half time the headache tongue.gif sweat.gif

Added on May 23, 2007, 2:29 pmim using 512 Kbps , but in the modem indicated 1 MB downlaod 512 upload ... but download speed is still only 512 which is 52KBps ...

rm 66 ... what you expect ...

my friend using 1MB package ... modem indicate 1.5Mb up 512k down
download torrent or anything ... 100KBps ... which means still 1MB ....

so its not gonna be any different...
the sync speed with DSLAM only something to indicate only ...
while download speed still same .... ><

they cap by account, not DSLAM...
and i yo ... 4 Mb package.... only ligit within 3KM of the dslam exchange.... i last check was about 5 KM away from exchange...
2 mb or 4 mb streamyx ... i think it is still a dream for me ...

Added on May 23, 2007, 2:32 pmthe routing in TMNET is also s*r*wed .... do a simple traceroute from malaysia to singapore ...the connection travels to Australia and go back to SG ... seriously i dont know why they do that for ... sommore .... the hops in malaysia, uses different route each time you do traceroute .....

common ... you can do better then thaT ! remove those useless routes !

Ray another thread they talked about 5 mb broadband for RM 199 a month. It's a fttp ( fiber to the premises ). The setup cost totals to 1000 for the first month.

Well.. increased bandwidth and increased dl/up speeds. but i don't see that happening in the long-term. Short-term yes, to attract more subscribers... but not for the long term. It may turn out to be the farce that the 2/1mpbs and 512kbps is.

I am not grateful what i have. vmad.gif . TmNut monoply the ISP Mkt in Malaysia
. IF they let others competitor come in, i think TMNUT bungkus already.

THIER PORT CAN SUPPORT 10K user, then ASK 20K USER SHARE THE FARKING PORT.

CANNOT SUPPORT SO MANY USER, FIXED IT BEFORE ASK MORE PEOPLE TO APPLY! vmad.gif

i dont think TMNET has any power in not letting competitor come in... it just that competitor can't afford to come in... so for now they are the king until somebody can challenge...

well the frist thing people in their right mind would complain and see if action can be taken, second to that is write an official letter but we must have a leader thats where tmnet/streamyx user group come's in with jeffooi on the helm.

are you sure ? according to a RUMOUR last time.. vodaphone wanted to buy over telekom malaysia, but goverment intervene to prevent them. same goes with digi/telenor.. they have money for wimax/3g project but government as usual wanted to protect so called "bumi" company ... smile.gif further more government is forcing digi/telenor to sell off their stake to < 50% which is no more control/say in the company.. so in a way we understood why ananda wanted full control of maxis smile.gif

true true.. smile.gif if you look properly in HK all their internet speed it as the max rated for local traffic while international is cap at 20mbps for their 100mbps package..

i wonder how on abdullah's mind we wanted a MSC/k-economy when the fundimentals supporting such vision is soo soo lacking and terrible..

even if you compare with our so called closest neighbour singapore and thailand.. do you know that both are them are so much better then us.. maybe we can fore-go singapore since its a so called "first world" by malaysia let's take thailand its on the same level playing field as us but they are so much better.

reason.. policy , they main vision is to change the country.. for us our main vision is my pocket must be full first.. the rest and go and *tot*...

blame on the government then...

in my oppinion, it is very risky to let others (foreigner) control our telecommunication service provider which services carry national security data ...

see what happen to our neighbour recently.. even their government don't like that kind of things...

FTTH only medium.. service won't change...

exchange -- TM building

da' box you mentioned... FTTS

but i think I'm wrong there.. latency won't improve if the 'other end' is still so far far away.

Exactly what I was thinking. Countries comparable to Malaysia already have these sort of solutions and better infrastructure.

Why spend so much of the budget on increasing the pipe size when the damn copper lines are still not replaced? Are they trying to prove copper lines do better than fiber? shakehead.gif

Not to mention there are still areas in the country where internet is non-existant. Honestly I think their budget could be better spent in these other areas before even thinking of going up on the speed ladder.

torrent screenshot, fluctuate up to 380kB/s & tmnet speedometer, current dslam setting is at 4mb, earlier was set to 5mb , just let me play around with...can set it higher depend your line condition , apart from your SNR and attenuation must be within range, i think the other thign affect the speed is the ip range, doesnt look like i can get my good old ip range like 218.x.xx.x ,

torrent screenshot, fluctuate up to 380kB/s & tmnet speedometer, current dslam setting is at 4mb, earlier was set to 5mb , just let me play around with...can set it higher depend your line condition , apart from your SNR and attenuation must be within range, i think the other thign affect the speed is the ip range, doesnt look like i can get my good old ip range like 218.x.xx.x ,

Hi rayfoo, I noticed that you're using a billion modem.I'm in the process of upgrading my 1mbps line to this 4mbps.I have 3 questions for you.

1-How long did the whole upgrading process take?(I applied on the 19th of may and after 4 working days they have just terminated my 1mb account)
2-Did a technician come to your location to configure the line?
3-Did you collectthe modem yourself from tm point or did the technician supply it to you?

Still not really top notch for 4Mbps to be giving 360Kb/s. Do much tests and most importantly the latency but i don't think it will be any different since Rayfoo is on the same gateway as us.

4mbps :
4mbps x 1024 = 4096kbps, 1Byte = 8bits
4096kbps / 8 = 512kBps

Tmnut Best Effort Basis doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif :
70% of what is stated in your package. Hence,
512kbps x 70% = 358.4kBps sweat.gif

Let me clear the air for you guys... RM198 is for customers who subscribe before 17th June and you will be paying RM198 for life until you terminate the service..

Those who apply after 17th June will be paying RM268 until you terminate the service.

The 4.0M line that I tested doesn't belong to me by the way.. it's a friend's one.. and his line is connected to a remote DSLAM, that's why he could get 7.0M speed for his line..

It seems like for the 4.0M accounts, TM Net does not put a limit on the speed, so whatever speed your line is connected at, you can get that speed.. but for how long this is going to last, no one knows for sure.

Depends on your line really, but theoretically 400Kb/s is no problem for a 4Mbps.

of course the 4Mb line is fast NOW. Plus that Jun 17 crap they want customer to sign on. If they have the banthwidth for 4Mb why are they limiting 1 Mb line.
Answer is they havel limited bandwidth, in order to give 4Mb customer full speed to get customers to sign on they will have to limit all other packages.

TM Net does not have the bandwidth to support 4Mb package, they will have to limit all exsisting packages

Standard monopoly move like Proton, increase the tax for outside car to force us to buy their car.

Now for those who subcribe 4Mb how long will TM Net keep their promise, maybe a year at most or until more expensive packages come out

People do not take this package and advise your friends not to take it too.
Just give them the 3 points below for the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of this package

The minimum subscription is 12 months. If customers terminate within the minimum subscription period, the remaining balance will be charge

Speed of service is on 'best effort basis'

Customers are not allowed to downgrade during the minimum subscription period

Well, one thing different is that our normal package is connecting through their ATM network which has a bandwidth of 155Mbps where else for the 4.0Mbps package, it is connected to the Metro E network which has a bandwidth of up to 1Gbps.. so there is a difference.. could that be the reason why they're able to give full speed there ?

Love you signuture

Interested to subscribe to the NEW Streamyx 4.0Mbps but worried about the hassle of going to TMpoint ? Don't worry, just drop me a PM and we can discuss further. NEW & Upgrade applications are accepted.

With a sign like above I wonder if I can trust your comments hmm.gif , well I just have trust Tm Net's history as company. I find it hard to belive alomost evrybody has about 20Kb speed now. I find I always get this speed after 10Gb per week.
No way in hell I'll take this package unless TM Net states in the T&C

No minimum subscription time frame
No limits on any type of Internet connection.
Customers are allowed to downgrade after a 3 month period

These 2 terms will ensur TM Net give the people the best service they can.

if for other bandwidth hogging application (torrent excluded). then go ahead la fren..

if torrent.. i think the throttling is here to stay..

and to Priss...

i don't quite get what is there to argue with the 17 Jan dateline... it's called PROMOTIONIONAL PERIOD ... what's that has anything to do with bandwidth??

and how do you know they don't have enough bandwidth??

tmnutz r the money suckers vmad.gif they simply shoot high price 2 earn easy profit w/o upgrading the infrastructure vmad.gif we could hv gotten more than 4 mb at the price or our 512k in overseas especially our little neighbour doh.gif doh.gif so i think is not worth it...one more thing, how long they will keep the promise of so called "best effort basis"...i bet in less than a year, they will shape the line 99 again n bek 2 square one...since our salary cap range is still the same while our inflation rate is so sky rocket high,i say its time 2 save your money 4 sumtin else nod.gif nod.gif

with such a price tag on these new package, u will know it u are the one that cover the building expense of their new services. how expensive it is the streamyx before it became 66/88 flat rate per month?

and where is the 4mbps business package? and why the 2mbps basic package is still only available at selected areas? while there is 2mbps business package since long ago? so there isnt any kind of last mine issue at all. is it becoz they are using their own customer especially personal user since it doesnt require business package quality to beta test something?

and 4mbps with only 512k upload? only 12.5 percent? boosting the value of their business package or boosting the value of their later higher speed package becoz those package will had to have higher upload speed?

But their 4mbps are synced at 4021kbps :

4021 / 8 = 502.63kB/s

The line should be at minimum to be able to touch 70% of the advertised speed so :

70% of 502.63kB/s is around 351.85kB/s biggrin.gif
*
laugh.gif laugh.gif 4096 - 4021 = 75kbps. curi 75kbps from each customer.
in 1 year time, assuming a lot of ppl upgrade,
10000 subscriber x 75kbps = 750 000, almost = 750mbps biggrin.gif make more $$$ tongue.gif

My comment as you put was a question, I did not say you are forcing people to upgrade. "Siapa makan chili dia rasa pedas" seems to be your case for overeacting. Sure go ahead and help people try the 4Mb package out. So what's the minimum trial time for the 4Mb package

As for keeping my comment to myself, this is a forum and its still is a free country. As long as my comment or questions are valid and reasonable I'll post them. So BITE ME. cool2.gif

I made a typo I meant the following statement not Jan 17 but Jun 17th
Customers who subscribe after 17th June 2007 will be charged at a normal rate of RM268.

As for bandwithd my mistake TM Net has pleanty of bandwith, that's why I'm getting average 22Kb/s for my 1Mb package and getting 25%-50% package loss, getting blank webpage and have reload webpages constantly. Yes it was my mistake notworthy.gif TM Net has the bandwith they just decide to screw me and others in order to give speed for their 4Mb package. One thing is for sure 4Mb package will be fast and the service good all this is need to con people into signing up. THen after 1-2 years or so they'll be another Topic TM Net limmitng 4Mb line shocking.gif after they oversubscribed this package shakehead.gif which should happen in 1 -2 years time

Are they going to make their limited bandwidth exploding??? Adding more subscribers to "share" the limited "pipe of water"?

I bet after after you upgrade to 4mbps you go to youtube you still get 20~60kbps most of the time. Play online game still very lag hit the monster need to wait few second only the monster will be hit.

Why government doesn't do anything on this??? Say want to improve ICT. But let this tmnet slow us down. Just let this tmnet cr@p on us. Can't this government just set up it's own isp or force open the phone line so other company can come in?

It won't make a difference since your line is capped at 1024kbps downstream and also the DSLAM is connected to the ATM network and not the Metro.E 1Gbps network.

Priss,

Let's not argue here ok. The important thing is they do not need to pay me anything at all and only those who is interested can PM me for details. They do not need to trust whatever I said from my tests. There are other forum members here who will get it eventually and give results from their test as well. You have not personally tried it and you're already giving all the negative comments. You call that valid ? shakehead.gif

By the way, it's a 12 month minimum subscription period.

regarding your post i find that this sentence is not well acceptable...

"You have not personally tried it and you're already giving all the negative comments",

but then from a great many experiences that we all screamyxx users experience and share on the forum, i dare to say for a fact.. that it will suck... to a certain extend.. tongue.gif

ps: don't flame me i'm just stating the obvious, even though some choose to ignore it.

First of all I keep saying the 4Mb line will be fast, the service will very good. These all required to con people into signing on. Why would I want to try this package when I know it will be fast. That's not the point

People keep complaing why Tm Net doesn't improve , can't we do anything ??. Why would TM NEt want to improve when Malaysian are so gullible to take their package. When they can feed the consumer aload of BS and get away with it. People you want to show Tm Net your power now is the time. Show TM Net we do not forget. Do not allow these bastards to make more money off us. Send them a message improve your service to your exsisting customer before offering new packages or taking on more customers.

For those who want to try just rememeber trial period if you can call it that doh.gif

The minimum subscription is 12 months = RM 2367 + RM88 + RM75
Speed of service is on 'best effort basis'.
Customers are not allowed to downgrade during the minimum subscription period.

Meaning RM2539 burn no matter what. So tell me what are going to do when TM Net pulls the same stunt as they did with the 1Mb line ? shocking.gif

Well atleast we know the real reason behind Bandwidth Throttling of existing customers, why they needed the reserve bandwidth for vmad.gif

For TM Net and their cronies
Fool me once shame on you
Fool me twice shame on me

Our experience with Streamyx has made us like that. Only last night after almost one month was my line stable enough for me download and surf.

Like the saying goes, "Once bitten, twice shy". In my opinion, TMNet does not need to spend so much on any advertising for whatever package they have because advertising by word of mouth (or in forums) is cheaper (FREE) if their service is up to standard. As it is now, they probably spend more money on advertisements which could be better spent on upgrading the service.

Just my 0.02sen opinion.

well according to some the 4mbps is a separated system, that is connected to the metro-e network with its own dslam, not like the normal streamyx users which are connected to the atm network...

check a few pages back there is a dude name rayfoo that has the service already and he also showed us some bt download speed and all..
its all good and delicious but what we want, is it worth getting it tongue.gif, in long run will quality of service ended up like the streamyx that we have ?

we'll just have to wait then smile.gif

hey rayfoo.. how's your line so far.. ? still blazing across the internet ? how's bt for international peers ?

They never did research before releasing, they think an average single person would signup for this (some might as some in forum have already done) but this package is more targeted towards those people who rent the same home and share the same line among themselves.

if TMNut wish to gain their reputation, why don't they maintain the existing services to make ue satisfies?

with my experience, the 4MB is the biggest lie.

unless they can prove that with our 1MB or 512KB subscribtion is worthy.

but that will not come true.

dun u know that this is their masterplan? they make sub 1.5MB and below as crappy as possible, forcing u to upgrade to 4MB for the good stuff. it happens not only here, but across the rest of the world.

IMHO, i dun think think TMNut would want to screw up on the 4MB plan as they r already up to their noses in shit. one more screw up (or complaints from half the population) will definitely hammer the final nail into their coffin.

so give them a chance first for this. after all, it's "so far so good".

I seriously doubt that. I haven't seen the government reprimand them at all. Tmnut offering poor service, crappy packages and pulling our legs, and what has the government done to put tmnut back in it's place ? Nothing shocking.gif

Tmnut can go on charging us expensive prices for the worlds WORST NARROWBAND ops i mean't BERUKBAND !! in the world !!! and they will never ever be blamed for it.... they will always pass the buck to the consumer and say it's us torrenting alot when we've been throttled to death for ages already. What more excuses can they make ?

Why can metrofon offer 2 mb broadband, fiber optics ( ftte ) for rm 60, whereas tmnut offers 1 mb adsl ( this isn't even adsl 2 ) for rm 88 ..... dude.

Why can AirAsia put Mas to shame but metrofon can't put tmnut to shame ? Cause tmnut is a more worse monopoly then mas is.

Meaning there is no P2P Throttling yet tongue.gif for this new 4mbps promotion package; so online gaming pinging theoritically should be faster rite....?

4096/8 => 512KBps - Overhead ~= 490KBps+-

IMHO, if RM198 per month for [BT + Surfing + Online Gaming + Video Streaming] within 350kbps+- abit not worth;

the ideal one should around 450KBps+-. But heck with tat BEST Effort policy what can we do, sigh cry.gif

Well I applied for this 4MB and since you have to change the username, they terminated my 1MB account. Now I can't access my internet and dunno when they are gonna install this 4MB. Wasn't told that they're gonna shut down my 1MB account while waiting.

Anyone who is applying, ask them about the account termination. It might happen to you too.

There's a 1.5mbps? Anyway, yeah you have to terminate that acc first, and you will have to wait 7-14 days, depends on how fast the contractor is. That's the case with me, I can't confirm it for everyone though.

dragna, I didn't know thats the procedure and the least they could do is inform me about the closure.

They did state it out at the ToC but might not have been very clear with their words.

"10# For existing customers who want to upgrade to Streamyx 4.0 Mbps, new modem and new login name will be provided. Service interruption will occur, for a maximum period of 2 working days."

my line shows taht i can get 5mpbs when i upgraded!but due to the copper cables around my area i can only achieve 2mb max.The contractor said he'll look into this issue to try to resolve it.If this area(ttdi) needs rewiring then he shall bring that issue to top management.

but yes they did terminate my 1mb account and i had to wait for 7 working days before they issued me a line(my dsl light was not on at all).It was frustrating(still is).

However i am very impressed with the billion modem and it's dynamic capabilities.

Are you getting the streamyx 4 mb broadband or the Paneagle 5 mb broadband ?

Also this billion modem you got whats the model name, is it also a router ? and what sort of advance features you talking about here.

My Aztech modem on 24/7 and seems reliable but i want to check line attenuation etc but it can't do that sleep.gif;

Speed of service is on 'best effort basis'.

Yeah right, Best effort.

The 1st bill received will include installation fee of RM88 and one time service activation fee of RM75, a one month subscription fee (from the date of service activation) and an advance charge of the second month subscription fee.

88+75+198+198=559 WTF?

The terms and conditions are scary shocking.gif

1 kilobit ( kb) = 10^3 bits = 1,000 bits
1 Megabit (Mb) = 10^6 bits = 1,000,000 bits
so 160kbps=0.16Mbps I don't think u r hitting the max if u r using any wired broadband

think twice b4 doing so. wait, no need think twice. wats the point? surfing minimum 512kbps is already very sufficient, 4mbps is just overkill, and the 4mbps is throttled when u use BT or p2p client. all in all, 512kbps is the best choice for all of us malaysian.

for people confused/trouble how to calculate bandwidth, just use this web based bandwidth calculator

http://www.ibeast.com/content/tools/band-calc.asp

Note: for Firefox user that install noscript or addblock, please allow this site (it is safe to do so), or it will not calculate or ends up as blank page

I agree even the upgrading process can be a pain. unless you know somebody in TM Net or work for them you'd likely encounter the same issue as this person
TM Nut upgrade experince
