hmm... i don't know why so many of you are getting such crappy service. for me, my speeds have been fantastic. even now as i am on the 1mbps package, my download speeds are usually about 140-160kBps (including torrent downloads - my well-seeded tv shows downloaded weekly, programs, etc). that's about 1.1-1.3mbps, more than what i subscribed for. rclxms.gif

i have decided to become a guinea pig as well, and will be going to tmnet to upgrade to this 4mbps package because, firstly i need the speed for my downloads and online stuffs, and secondly... because GATAL! 4MBPS ok! dun play play... i know some of u say it's a con job or a scam etc, but so far I am quite happy with my net service.

hopefully, the experience will be a good one, and I will gladly share it with everyone here in the forums. i know tmnet has had its ups and downs, but for me, their internet service has been quite good. so yes, if the outcome is great, I will share. and if sux, then I will share and vent and join the rest of you angry people too! icon_rolleyes.gif

so yes, 4mbps or less than 4mpbs is still ok. afterall, it sure beats using dialup!

finally got my 4mbps on thursday (june7). since monday (june4), i have been going to tmpoint in damansara utama to get it checked on because when my net got terminated (4mbps upgrade terminates ur old account to create a new one) and i called them on the week before (fri june1, sat june2) at the call centre, they all give me lies and excuses telling me cannot see this cannot do that.

worse still, they keep blaming one another, with tmnet blaming tm for not doing jumper change, and then when i call tm, they say they did the jumper change, waiting for tmnet to do the testing and set up account.

at the end... they all never did anything. as the woman in the next counter on monday put it, "you all very fast potong line, but take forever to get it back up" or something along those lines. basically, I was internet-less for one full week. can die.

so after a lot of calls and visiting tmpoint... finally got my case "promoted", so the boss will be overseeing my case. altho he did manage to get it up and running in 2 days, he wasn't very good as well. doesn't reply sms, doesn't call back. i had to do the all the follow up.

summore I have to pay for the stupid rm75 activation fee plus all my calls to 1-300 number (local call rates) and 100 (dunno free or not).

a word of caution: if you are upgrading to 4mbps, you MAY get your internet disconnected for a week or so and you MAY need to be proactive and go and bug tmpoint (NOT by phone, but walk in) to get it done. the call centres are USELESS! they say they cannot see this cannot see that, but apparently the boss fella at tmpoint said their system is the same and they can see everything.

if you asked me... everyone working in tm (whether tmpoint, tmnet, call centre, etc) spend more time telling lies and delaying things rather than actually getting things done.

-----------

in other news, my 4mbps has been quite good. downloading stuffs like programs etc using http can reach 400kbps+ and a 20mb file can finish downloading in 1 minute!

however, SOME websites seem to take longer to load. and the free modem (billion BiPAC 5112s) was having problems connecting with my router (linksys wrt54gl with dd-wrt). i had to fiddle with it a lot until i finally got it to work properly.

please note as well, that the 4mbps package is supposed to come with free Hotspot, BB Phone (voip, kinda like skype), and E-Browse (The Star only). when i got my acc activated, I wasn't given any information about those services. I only remembered about it when i logged in to the Online Services page and realised that hotspot has been activated, meaning i can use tmnet hotspot.

However, BB Phone and E-Browse have not been activated as of now. I called the useless helpline, and they told me they cannot see my 4mbps package thing. Yesterday the fella told me to email streamyx, but today nobody reply. I called again, another fella tells me that I have to go tmpoint to enquire.

so yes... 4mbps may be fast, but you MAY need to really work hard to get it working. sweat.gif

wat modem stats? eitherway, I can't access my modem's config page anymore because I had to change the IP settings of the modem so that it'll work with my linksys router (using dd-wrt firmware). it was damn leceh to set up the Billion modem with the router, but I managed to get it working by changing the modem's ip to 10.0.0.1 and leaving my router at 192.168.0.1 (different subnet). but damn weird la, when i change the modem's ip, the login page is different. i was told that 4mpbs line a bit weird, you can sometimes go to other people's modem's config page, hence I was advised to change the modem's ip.

anyways, download speeds:
- download using flashget (download accelerator): max 425kBps, average 375kBps
- tmnet speedometer: average 3.2Mbps (usually it'll be about 70-80% of actual allocated bandwidth, says my installer)
- torrent (using idealvpn standard package): seen it go past 300kBps before and maintain flex.gif , tho usually average 150-250kBps

do note the following:
- depends on connection and server
- some sites are slower on 4mbps for me, such as Youtube. back in 1Mbps, my Youtube videos load faster than they play. now, it plays a bit, then stops to load, then play a bit, then load summore.
- but some sites load faster too, like Apple and their ads, the HD videos load very fast. back in 1Mbps, I had to use small or medium sizes.
- torrents are throttled on 4Mbps package. they are dependent on seeders and also time of day. usually my torrents are around 200kBps or so, but right now it breaches 300kBps and is able to maintain in that region summore. very very excited. all thanks to idealvpn.

i know you're already paying quite a lot for 4Mbps, but if you torrent a lot, i think rm30 extra per month for IdealVPN is quite worth it because you get to fully utilise the 4Mbps. right now, downloaded a 415mb file in just 50mins. fast anot?? rclxm9.gif

there's the rm30 package which is for 2Mbps bandwidth uncapped, and darrell (owner&tech support) is very helpful in helping you set up your computer to maximise the vpn usage. there's an rm50 package for 4Mbps also, if you can afford it. drool.gif I am promoting not because I am being paid by him, but because I am quite satisfied with the service and speed I get. plus, VPN is secure so people can't hack into your connection, and furthermore you get to access US-only sites since your vpn IP is based in US. whistling.gif
