I talked to the technician and he said the minimum downstram snr margina has to be above 15.Ounfortunately for me even thoguh the damn telekom data exchange centre is les than 3 km away the copper cables only allow me a snr margin of 7~8.

The requirements to get 4Mbps line is that your house must be within 3km from TM exchange. The readings on your modem must have SNR Margin more than 15db and Attenuation less than 40db, if not the contractor is not suppose to install the 4mbps package.

sorry for being off topic, but i would like to ask a question based ... if my DS/US line attenuation is 50+ ... does it mean my connection is very bad? and would the problem lie at the cabling/relay point?

Try connecting a cable directly to the modem. Some modems have web config, check the model manual for details.

Try connecting an ethernet cable from the PC directly to the modem. A lot of modems have web config, you can access the modem directly from the browser. Maybe if you post the modem make and model someone can help you.

Yes, it has a web-config. The default IP should be 192.168.1.1 although I already forgot the username and password.

What I mean is that your modem needs to have the minimum requirements I mentioned above when the Data Rate has been set to Downstream 4096kbps and Upstream 512kbps. laugh.gif

Here's my modem status. From the look of it, might seem to qualify for the 4Mbps package. Any other opinion?

However, when I call to check, I was told mine not qualify due to my exchange further than 3km in which they check using my phone number. Hmm.. I wonder if I should check a second time by contacting the contractor. Sucks....!
