HMMM i add a SSD it will be around 3k+- which is really best bang for buck

With Nvidia Optimus (or GPU switch), the battery life will be better than the Y400
The new processors will be fine, no worries

Yeah, wise choice adding in an SSD, that will reduce loadtimes, heat and weight

You can also consider getting an ultrabook. Offerings from the Acer S7 line or the Asus UX series ultrabooks to name a few

Err... apart from the Fujistu LH772, almost all 14" notebooks don't have numpad. You are going to have to consider 15" or larger notebooks if you strictly want a numpad.
Also, mind sharing your definition of "work"? Office work or professional work i.e. rendering/ photoshop etc.?

If strictly Lenovo and need to be portable, then you only have the Z400 to consider

Nope it is not possible to get a bigger screen and weight at that price unfortunately
Battery life is an approximate 3 hours or so for the Asus (due to small battery capacity), and perhaps up to 4-5 hours on the Lenovo E130 and Yoga 11s.

The P3 is reported to be 0.79kg in weight, though I think it is only referring to the tablet, regardless it is a pretty good choice there too, with SSD some more. Sorry for missing out on that one

I am slightly unsure about which budget to tend to this time, as I have always been buying the best hardware I can afford, but not utilizing it fully.

I haven't been playing games for almost a year now, but now I feel the urge of doing so . Games like dota 2, COD, hitman etc

Currently looking at RE-15, RS-15 (8970m) and Lenovo y510.

It is also nice to have a longer battery life if possible, but weight is not much of an issue.

oh, i see.. its oke then.. 15' laptop will need more budget, yes?.. hehe
the 'work' i mentioned would be just office work..

any recommendation based on my budget?

Of the games you mentioned, only Hitman is slightly GPU demanding. Dota2 and COD will not test the power of gaming laptops

Anyway, you have very good budget.
For you, maybe avoid Lenovo Y series for now, its wireless card / antenna seems to give lots of users headache

haha, if you really have budget that much, you can go for Illegear RS-15 or RE-15. every gamer needs a very good customizable system yo.
FYI, battery life on RS-15 is up to 3 hours and 10 minutes about.

Most probably could only get Intel Celeron / Pentium or AMD E series CPU
But those should handle MS Office nicely, as long the spreadsheet / word doc is not extremely big.
If possible, try to get at least 4G RAM (negotiate with reseller to see if you could get free upgrade), then it will not feel too sluggish when many windows / apps / tabs are opened.

You don't need a "good" GPU to play PES, it is not very GPU demanding
i7 - If you are only using it for gaming PES, don't see why you ever need i7 quad core Anyway, i7 is expensive, and will take out a big chunk of your budget. So only get it if you absolutely need it. Btw, i7 ULV is only duo core.
8G RAM - you could upgrade after market with reseller, normally will not void hardware warranty. 4G stick ~ RM100, 8G stick ~ RM190+.
1TB HDD - If a particular model only come with 500G / 750G HDD, just talk to re-sellers to see if possible to trade in / swap for bigger capacity HDD. Price difference is so minimal now for HDD (< RM50).

The RE-15 is the better choice man especially so if you are putting in an SSD. Otherwise, the GE60 can also be considered as well~
THe GE60 and RE15 are both "true" gaming machines, can't really go wrong with them

I'd also go with the RE-15 (base price RM3599) and perhaps go for a 240/256GB SSD+ Original W8 OS+ bunch of other stuff. SLI on the Y500 is not optimized for every game and also there are issues with SLI generally such as micro-stuttering. Plus, I believe the cooling system on the Illegear laptop is better

The MSI is a pretty good choice for your budget, with 2 years warranty
You won't be able to get a lot out of customizing the RS-15 with a RM4k budget I'm afraid (unless if you plan to go FreeDOS/ Unix). And at best you can only afford 1 year warranty

Since so many of you recommended the RE-15, I'll take a serious look at it. Only cons is it doesn't have backlit keyboard

Do you care about weight? Battery life? Looks? Cost? What he posted might have similar specs, but they're all built for different reasons. Everyone has a reason why they picked what they picked.

My choice in that list was the GE40. It's a 14" which, if you sacrifice the ODD model, you can have 2 x mSATA + 1 x SATA. Currently I have 128GB SSD + 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD in my GE40. Also, the GE40 is one of the few rare lappies out there spotting the 37W Haswell Quads, as opposed to the other 47W Haswell Quads out there, giving better battery life. It also weights only 1.9kg with all those in it.

Erm actually I am not really looking at tye pro gaming laptop. What I play is actually l4d, cod and some online games. Also for my work as im in construction line and video streaming. Budget max 4k but if can be less than that im more than happy

4k is abit too much for.me as aftet sometimes I might not be using the lappie anymore and also might not play the games often. Mostly surfing the net n video stream but I want a balance performance for both.

Basing off your statements and all.. I think you would be happy with a Lenovo. I find their price/performance ratio very good.. cheap but powerful.. and look wise/build quality it's one of the better ones out there.. only down for me is their weight, so if you're ok with the weight, then go on ahead. I emphasis on weight only because I carry too much in my backpack as it is.

Nope. Even sandy bridge i5 (i5-2xxxM) will still perform very well in the age of Haswell (that's a 3 year old CPU, btw).
i7 quad core is really not necessary for lots of people. Current gen of PES is not even optimised for quad core (can't say for future gen though )
The point to remember is this: your budget is not unlimited. You want to spend money to get the best bang for buck in terms of performance / user experience.
For your budget, GPU is more likely the bottleneck for gaming, not CPU. So you should spend money to get laptop with the best GPU possible.
Then spend money on SSD, for example, since SSD will really "speed" things up a lot, since HDD speed is the bottleneck for laptop responsiveness.

Yeah, you don't really need such a high end machine if you don't game that much, and only doing simple tasks

You don't really need Haswell for your tasks
But if you really want one, can consider this:

I cannot answer that question sorry since I've never done any WiFi tests. But notebooks usually have better WiFi cards then phones, thus better range
