Added on tongue.gif tongue.gif Some personal recommendation by astria for 14" laptops

QUOTE(astria @ time unknown)
Multimedia : 1) Asus A42Jv, 2) Lenovo Ideapad Y460, 3)Sony VAIO EA16

- Best GPU u can find for a 14", so it's down to personal preference of brands and warranty. A42Jv basically stunned everyone, stripping off the fancy stuff, and slash rm1000 from the price tag. Y460's price has been decreased time and again which still makes it a good buy. Vaio EA16 is still worth considering, especially if u love to choose the colour, but lacks features compared to Asus N82Jv, and given the price of the other 2 models, unless you are a Vaio lover, you probably won't be looking at it.

CULV : 1) Acer Aspire Timeline 4810TZ, 2) Asus UL80Vt, 3) Dell Inspiron 14z

- why not UL80Vt??? to me, a CULV with integrated graphic is more than enuf, since the most demanding it needs to do is probably HD movies only. Intel GMA is sufficient for such jobs. but why UL80Vt second? due to performance:price ratio... sure Inspiron 14z is cheaper, but 4810TZ offers the same spec as well... Basically no changes since we have yet to see the ULV CPU from Intel.

Value : 1) Acer Aspire 4551/Toshiba C640D-1004U, 2) Acer Aspire 4741G/Compaq CQ42-189TX, 3) Dell Inspiron 14

- this segment is pretty interesting, we have a number of ties here. Aspire 4551 and C640 are downright dirt cheap. Add Windows and upgrade to 2GB RAM, and they are still cheaper than the 2nd place machines. New 45nm AMD 25W CPU with Radeon graphic are decent enough for everyday computing, but take note C460D has only 2 USB ports. Aspire 4741G and CQ42 come with Core i3 and dedicated graphic card that will give better performance and allows for some light games. Inspiron 14 is backed by Dell's excellent warranty service at a low price, albeit using Pentium Dual Core which lacks HTT compared to Core i3.

Work : 1) Asus A42Dr, 2) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG

- this is a new category, for those who are looking for a machine to do work like Photoshop, but still prefer 14", without breaking their wallet. A42Dr is a clear winner as it packs a AMD Phenom II x3 inside the chasis, better than the dual cores with HTT, but not as expensive as a quad core. TimelineX 4820TG is in the list as well as it's a light machine with great battery life, ideal for those who needs to move around often.

budget RM 4k , read this..
QUOTE(kae7 @ time unknown)
Lenovo Y460 [i5 540M + HD5650] , RM 3699 - better processor
Sony Vaio EA16 [i5 520M + HD5650] , RM 3999 - its VAIO !! , and has various color option[5 options to choose] , stylish looks
Dell Studio XPS 16 [i5 450M + HD565V] , RM 3999 - FullHD resolution !! , stylish looks,nice color..
Asus N82Jq [i7 720QM + Nvidia GT335M] , RM3799 - USB 3.0 !! , 2yrs international warranty.

hmm...

i think i better state what i wanna use it for...

firstly...i intend to use it for my studies..so it will be a lot of moving..from home to uni and vice versa..and of course to type my reports(at uni, at home i use my desktop tongue.gif)...so weight will be my concern here..=)

2nd...is the processor & graphic card suffiecient to run photoshop? will be using this application a lot..

3rd..of course is the hard disc space..if possible i hope its enough to last me for four years..dun wan spend on external SSD if possible..and whether the hard disc is vulnerable to knocks or not...from what i know..SSD is more stable than ur typical hard disc? correct me if i am wrong...and no..no movies will be on this netbook...

last but not least will the keyboard interface..whether the buttons are in the "logical" place or not....eg.some netbooks/laptop has their Del button so far away...sweat.gif

so far acer ferrari has quite suited my liking(externally)......

so can the Dell Inspiron M301z match this ferrari? thanks. notworthy.gif

Intel's Core architecture has always been better than AMD's K8 and K10... clock for clock and core for core, AMD sure cannot match them...

but AMD compensate that with cost and complete platform... their CPU have always been cheaper, but still with sufficient performance, and their integrated graphic is way ahead of Intel GMA... at the very least, Mobility Radeon can provide hardware acceleration for Flash 10.1, but not GMA...
