1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - Can spend anywhere from RM4000 to RM6000+
3. Usage - browsing the net, not-so-heavy programming, some games
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15''

I am slightly unsure about which budget to tend to this time, as I have always been buying the best hardware I can afford, but not utilizing it fully.

I haven't been playing games for almost a year now, but now I feel the urge of doing so tongue.gif. Games like dota 2, COD, hitman etc

Currently looking at RE-15, RS-15 (8970m) and Lenovo y510.

It is also nice to have a longer battery life if possible, but weight is not much of an issue.
*
haha, if you really have budget that much, you can go for Illegear RS-15 or RE-15. every gamer needs a very good customizable system yo. laugh.gif
FYI, battery life on RS-15 is up to 3 hours and 10 minutes about.

hello there sifu2 need recommendation....

1. Preferred Brand - Non
2. Budget - Around RM4000 (i can add more if needed)
3. Usage - Graphic Design, Editing Videos
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Any size as long as its light and slim
*
any light and slim design is not recommended for heavy usage like gaming or long hours rendering, as excessive heat will be trapped inside the laptop and damage the internal components. however, you can look at these :

MSI GE40-2OC, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1600x900; anti-glare)@RM3999[1.8kg], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8
Illegear RE-15, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080;matte)@RM3599[Onkyo], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ]

Appreciate the suggestions. I've gone through some of the Lenovos models and they are pretty amazing (in terms of specs:price ratio) especially the Z500 & Y400 models. But do they heat up badly? Do I have to worry about their temperatures?
*
for Y400, you dont have to worry much about the temperatures, as the thickness of the laptop itself helps the ventilation. however, the Z500 is an exception. it is not suitable for long hours gaming, as the thinness traps heat easily.

lol, why my friends always blame me when their notebooks got problem?  cry.gif  cry.gif

my only answer is question back them and make a conclusion, 'have you ever realize that computers are products that are guaranteed to be working fine? thats why all computers or parts comes with warranty and allow you to make a claim if there are defects.'

BUT, when it comes to software, i will generally ask them, 'are you watching prawn?' laugh.gif

what kind of long term usage is it?
if you are talking about gaming and heavy use, it is definitely good.
if you are talking about idling, it can even handle long hours idling.

faridsuarez

with your budget, its likely impossible to get a high performance 17" laptop. so far, the one that is near your pricing is this :

Lenovo Ideapad G780, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M + (1600x900)@RM2299[3.0kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm); W7HP

for entry level ones, you should look at these :

MSI GE70, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299, 8GB, 1TB, W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack
Illegear RE-17, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080)@RM3799[Onkyo], 4GB, 500(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ
