Some of the models listed already has W8.

You can get the S300 at RM9xx with W8 if you negotiate hard enough tongue.gif. It is good enough for her usage. Just add more RAM later if she multi-tab browsing a lot (unfortunately, it has only 1 RAM slot, so it mean she has to buy a (eg. 8G RAM stick ~ RM200) an swap out the 2G RAM stick.)

13" actually is where the expensive models sit tongue.gif Low budget models are in 14". Already listed most of the 13" and 14" within the budget.

FreeDOS is ideal for people who already has OS, or for student in higher education, eg., where they can get cheap legal OS.

Masters of Mobile Computing, appreciate your help

1. Preferred Brand: no Acer
2. Budget: Less than 3.8K including RAM upgrade if required
3. Usage: Photoshop, Illustrator, Xilisoft video converter, heavy powerpoint/excel user with heavy formatting
4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- Screensize: 15 inch
- Processor: i7
- SSD
- backlit keyboard would be nice

Perhaps, N550JV OR Y510P OR Shall I wait?

Currently laptop Asus N53. Working fine, just need to reformat. It gets slower after every Windows update till its unbearable...

Thank you so much for your reply.

if the N53 is working fine, then you should probably consider just getting a 256G SSD (~ RM600) and swap out the HDD, install the OS and app onto the SSD. Will give a new lease of life to the laptop.
Also add more RAM if your photo and video file size is large. 8G stick is ~ RM200.

Already 8G, some files still took a long time to open. Not sure if 12G helps, but now is a bad time to buy RAM. So ex..

you should wait... new lenovo thinkpad with haswell seems so yummy (for windows laptop), for new laptop to buy you must go for SSD... normal hard disk seems like last century items imo...

the RAM is not for the access time, it's to reduce the use of swap file / scratch drive.
SSD will improve the file access time a lot.

Hi, I'm looking for a gaming laptop and need some recommendations

1) Preferred Brand- Any except HP and Dell
2) Budget inbetween 4k - 5k
3) Usage heavy gaming and to be able to play high end games (like the upcoming battlefield 4 but not as much as crysis 3 lol)
4) preffered screen 17"

I checked out MSI GT70 2OC-408US and Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p and right now I'm leaning towards the MSI machine but I would like more recommendations and suggestions to help me with my final decision.

Also if someone could help me clear out which is better from these 2
Dual (2x) NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB (on select models) with Ultrabay
and
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 770M 3G GDDR5

Thank you in advance!

Malaysia local set of Y510P is spec with i7-4700M.
GDDR5 is a type of VRAM used by higher end GPU. Bigger bandwidth compared with DDR3.
Malaysia set Y510P don't have mSATA port. So if you want SSD, swap it with the HDD.

which country? Sometime it is cheaper to buy overseas.
If buy in Malaysia, need to make sure you get International Warranty, and the brand has support at the country you are going.
What course are you studying? Depend on software that you are going to use, may require different computing power.
All laptop models are "wide screen" now smile.gif

Im going to Australia, but I wanna buy before going. What do u think?

Just a normal course, not needed for graphics really. Graphics are only needed for gaming haha.

As a reference for other suggesters, here are my explanation for the laptop that I want to be recommended:

Hi there, would like some help to buy a new laptop since I'm moving to study to another country later on (don't judge my intention to buy the laptop tongue.gif)

1. Preferred Brand - Any actually, as long as have good warranty period and cheap prices for good hardware (and also not so bad quality, I wouldn't want the hardware to break up so fast).

2. Budget - RM 3000-4000.

3. Usage - Gaming (World of Warcraft at moderate graphics and Dota 2). And doing courseworks of course.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Screens that can support wide screen and high resolution. Not sure about this really.

Thanks hope u guys can help! Drop me a PM or tag my name or just post here if u guys wanna make any suggestions.

P/S: A link to the suggested laptop would be great too
