Common Kelvin White Balance Settings : 2500K - very strong orange tungsten light 2800K - strong orange tungsten light 3200K - yellowish tungsten light 4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it) 5500K - flash 6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light) 9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light
Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.
Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You
should be able to do this with practice.
With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!
M = Magenta G = Green 2500K = Blue 9900K = Amber
Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is
too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K
M9.
To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these
methods, or a combination of them:
- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11) - use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100) - use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a
second) - use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash

wow.. V36 d..seems like alpha is a sharing committee.. btw, moo, for CZ lens, the T* coating on the lens and the filter suppose to be the same rite? so how come the contrast and flare can improve?

wow!!really nice starry sky shot!!i dream of shooting this kinda pic a long long time..problem is i cant find any spots that have a lots of stars in d sky... if i were to shoot this i'll try set d shutter speed to 1 hour....to get d star trails...
MoO, someone had indeed shown some interest in that 70-200 of mine. In fact, 2 of them. Didn't you follow the thread in alphanatics?
Time to de-mistify the myth about filters. Current crop of UV filters are mostly put in to do one thing only. And that is to protect the front element of the lens. So what about flare? Well, most of the time, the flare is caused by the filter's optics itself! So that is why modern UV filters have anti-flare coatings. That is also one of the reasons why if you are going to invest in UV filters, think carefully about your approach.
A good UV filter can cost upwards of RM150 (depending on brand and filter thread size). If you buy an inferior filter, you will be plagued by flare issues, as it is the inferior quality of cheap filters that is causing the flare. So essentially, if you do not use a filter, the flare problem will not come up. Now, the only question left is "Is the lens worth protecting?". If it is a kitlens, think how much will it cost to replace that kit lens. RM150 (for a 2nd hand SAL1870)? Would you protect a lens that is valued at RM150 with a filter that costs RM150? If me, I will not. If the lens get scratched pretty bad, then I just buy another kit lens. Or buy a replacement (such as the SAL1680Z) - which I will then protect with a RM200 UV filter.
bro kysham, thanks for de-mistify since the filter issue r raise, juz wish to know about their effect to the IQ, be it B+W, hoya or CZ or they all juz the same which provide protection only? thanks

noellee69: All filters will decrease the IQ. It is just a matter how how badly it decreases the IQ. Good filters, like those from B+W, Hoya (btw, Hoya have a few grades of filters. the better ones are the Pro1D and the new HD series) and Sony's CZ filters tends to degrade the IQ far less compared to cheaper filters.
MechaHerc: I still love that photo of yours, even after seeing it a few times!
OK, photo spam time. Here is another photo from Bali. Some HDR treatment done....
haha...really situation dependent....where u live bro? maybe drop by sometimes to "try luck" lol..

Uzumaki NaruTo: Yes you can defish with DxO and other programs.
clivengu: I don't have a F42 anymore so I don't have a size reference to make a flash gel holder.
Nashakir: That's better, a lot cleaner than your green grass/blue skies/lamp posts series.
vincyuee: Unfortunately, it means your A550 thinks your memory stick is a fake.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, there are a fair bit of fake memory sticks out there, which is one of the few fake Sony items there are. Not even underwater set LOL.
noellee69: Cheaper filters add flare and reduce contrast. So I'd put only a top-range filter on a top-range lens. Also, you don't want to scratch your front element - Zeiss lenses come as an assembly so they can't change just the front glass, they change the entire glass group (using the same lens shell made by Sony.)
farex, nice shot!
kysham: Cheap filters cause flare but good filters can kill flare that shows on a naked lens; filters no matter what can cause ghosting in various levels.
ThadThad: Congratulations!
Cinnabarian: Love your nick! For the rest of us here, cinnabar is the official color of the Alpha logo (much more accurate than orange!)
welcom to the orange legion, ThadThad and Cinnabarian, later dont forget to head to alphanatics.com yah..
haiz.. just got back from a trip last nite and all my pics looks noisy ha ha ha i guess that iso 1600 in a350 is usefull for one thing but not for the pixel peekers.. never use iso above 800 until last nite.. a lot have to be done is PPing them..
kysham: Cheap filters cause flare but good filters can kill flare that shows on a naked lens; filters no matter what can cause ghosting in various levels.
Well.... technically you are correct, albnok. I know my naked 50mm f1.7 flares like nobody's business. But I never put a good filter on that lens before...
kysham : No need to put any filter on the 50mm f1.7 lah! It is so recessed that it's hard to touch the front elements. Plus flare can sometimes be artistic also mah... hehehehehehe....

yeah....i'm also noticed quite a few ppl complained about that.....may try to find out more on sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5....
Aiya get la CZ1680 la although no f2.8. But the sharpness can kill la. Misai also can see properly!
aiya.....same old story lah....money matters....cny is around the corner already and can't get ang pow somemore any place can get 36 months installment?? haha....
lwliam: Nice, though I would prefer one tight crop of the domes itself as the bricks already look very interesting. Something like a telephoto shot with compressed background.
Nashakir: Cleaner composition.
kfthoo: The Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 is a really fun lens, because it can focus on whatever it is touching!

you mean it's macro capability? i find that it has a very close focusing distance...20cm only...with magnification 1:2.3 but some review mentioned that the lens suffer soft corners at 17mm...anyway, it's still a better alternative to replace my dt1870...
my A200 viewfinder show a piece of thread(benang) like thingy at top right corner. no matter how much i blow i wont go away.. but it does not affect IQ.. but very irritating to see it there..

have to think properly before opening this thread.. if ur anti-poison is not updated then surely gonna loose..
but like what ieR bro said in previous thread~ the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is great for portrait to separate the subject from the background with shallow DOF at f2.8. Great for body like a200 to maintain lower ISO. The CZ1680 is definately a better match with the a550 or a700 replacement as i plan in future~

Gouki: IMHO, i would go for a sharp lens 1st then only DOF...good sharp lens is hard to find...as for DOF you can PP it with photoshop...
even though i got myself constant 1.8 & 2.8...but i'll usually do my shoots at F4...as that is the optimum level whereby the lens best perform...
my 2 cents
p.s: my CZ just only sold to destfull...
my a700...ehm...waiting for FF replacement model...

hmmm~ according to ieR bro mentioned, seems the Tamron is sharp enough for my casual use even at f2.8 lar~ but i know the CZ1680 is damn sharp~ but the extra 800bux~ i tot plan to match it with the a700 replacement few months down road in package~

i know what u mean~ currently my a200 is pairing with the 18-250 lens coz i travel a lot so i need the versatility~ since i have the intention of getting another new semi-pro apsc body in new future~ i guess i dun mind having a little collection of lens for myself to play around~ (trying to resist the CZ venom now. ) maybe, i'll head down to Studio Zaloon later after work to test both lens and get myself poison~ see how it goes then~

Shallow. Note that the guitar and face are in about the same plane of focus.
ISO3200, redone with DxO Optics Pro Elite. Note the bokeh has undergone channel-specific variable Gaussian blurring i.e. my STF attempt.
finejava: Except the A900/A850. If the A900/A850 had more obvious APS-C markings, or was able to mask off the FF region, it would make the 16-80mm much more usable on it. Right now it is a pain to frame any APS-C lens on the A900.
Eh, your 50mm F1.4 would be real nice on FF!
lwliam: Yeah notice the bricks? You could rotate the horizon slightly and crop a 3:2 shot from this.
cjlai, somebody has posted how to add the focus confirm chip to the Opteka 85mm F1.4!

what is the best uv filter used for CZ1680 to avoid vignetting issue?
UV is not reducing vignetting...UV use to cut off flares... for me i wont buy one coz Zeiss coating itself is a high quality UV filter.... and i love vignetting..

then you dont even need at least a single protecting filter for your CZ1680?
You will need one of those low profile (read: THIN) filters to avoid vignetting. Try the Hoya Pro-1D. The HD version also quite good. But the problem is that the 16-80 is known to vignette at 16mm, even without a filter! *hehehe*

errrrr, since when did i have a 16-105 or 16-80 that i never knew of? O_o ROFL
Go for the flash. For broader learning, go for at least the mid-range F42 flash. Don't get the F20 flash as you will be pretty limited. The F20 is more of a supplement flash rather than a full on external flash.

braindead_fr3ak: believe or not b4 i go for this for RM1630 new, i did have offer to grab a 2 months old cz1680 for RM1800 only but i choose the 16105 due to its range and build quality (last time the CZ1680 have gear jam issue)
i tested both lens side by side, 16105 lost to cz on the contrast and a bit of sharpness (really a bit)
sample image can be view from my travel blog...use only 16105 + 50mm 1.7
hahaha okok.. the 1750 is sharper than the 16105?....i held the 16105 b4..very solid lens.. nvr touch the 1750 yet... im targeting either...sell me a300 first

@freddy manson...i saw u r selling f36AM...im seeking for flash ..wat the difference between f36 and f42???
well.. the GN (guide number) is 36.. when F42 is 42 means.. at iso100.. on APS-C camera its 105mm on focal length while the F36 is lower because of the lower guide number..
haiya kindda hard to explain coz im not a good explainer.. ha ha ha

Poison question : Which brand of filters are good? Hoya, Keep, Octopus, etc. Would a more expensive brand be better?
I just bought a Keep UV filter. Feeling poisoned to be a CPL filter.
Anyway, need you guys to give tips and suggestion on "Noob guide to taking care of a DSLR" so that super noobs like me can refer to it for a complete guide : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1302392

b+w is good..hoya(pro1d or HD series) is good..cz is good too.. ^^
have u already understand the concept of shutter vs aperture vs iso??DoF??Metering?? i think if u already understand those..u can probably go out n start ur practical lessons already...if not..just google for those words..im sure there r alot useful info there

Thx. Difficult to find Hoya filters here in Sibu. Searched around and only see KEEP filters. Imagine a KEEP UV filter 62mm for RM80..... no choice, had to buy as I wanted it fast to protect my front lens elements....
Going to search around garage sales for the Hoya CPL filter.
I have read on all those settings i.e. aperture/iso/DoF/Metering. Just that reading and practical is two BIG different things. Tried to play around with my camera's setting and got some awful pictures......

thanks ieR and achew.. finally i think monitor calibration is a must.. z..
kmarc... find some reputable seller to do postage.. that works for me..
nashakir; it is a very subjective decision. maybe u like it green? because, who knows, ur monitor/lcd might be calibrated, but ur eye is toward green liking? coz the editing is result from what u see of what u liked.
the reason i said green, is, look at my hair, it suppose to be black, not greenish tint... (see?) and the shadow below my arms, is greenish too. even the table, is not brown, is greenish brown... does ur monitor shows? if it does... then it means ur eye is favorable to green.
wait wait, is that the reason why ur landscape picture all got alien grass??!? soooo green~ could be ur monitor, or ur eye.

oh ya.. i dont see greenish tint.. my monitor maybe.. no wonder my pics i think not blue /green enough... so i adjust.. different looks..
this lowyat page white looks yellowish on my monitor..

kmarc, buy online. there are a few reputable sellers. i think yannick is one of them, selling B+W filters. ask him lah. KEEP is a cheap and not very good filter brand. it does the job of protecting the front element, but also at the same time degrade the IQ. want to know how much it degrades the IQ? simple take 2 shots. 1 with filter and the other without filter. You should be able to see the difference. If it is acceptable to you, then no need to buy another more expensive filter.

Cool! Will look for sellers in garage section.....
If one were to choose, would you choose Hoya or B+W?

u bought for rm80? i think its expensive for cheapo brand bro.. Hoya n B+W is a good brand, but just beware sometime hoya got fake one, yannick sell original, if u got more budget go for pro1d or HD.. my advise: if u want an idea of filter price, go research 1st shashinki, yamiya website..

no la, rm80 is decent, summore urs is 62mm thread Not 55mm(a lot cheaper)....
if hoya HD or B+W slim, easily over rm200 already for 62mm...
kmarc, dont get too poison by people to get high end filter, the 18250 is just a normal lens... a simple filter protector can already.
as for CPL, i doubt is a good idea for u to shoot indoor (ur daughter), coz it will stop down 1-2 stop, where even ur flash cant really help~ too dark.
and if u plan to get 50mm, F1.8, that is 49mm thread, the 62 CPL (assuming u buying for 18250), u cant use it, diff thread size,... unless u go buy stepdown ring, 62>55 and 55>49 2 step down... + CPL,... i am very sure at 1.8, u see terrible vignetting.
think properly bout getting CPL, coz u get cheap one, the effect not much one. expensive one, is Very expensive. and u have to get the right thread size, who knows future u buying 1750 (great indoor portrait lens too) and it's 67mm thread, u cant use the 62mm thread, even u buy step up ring, it will affect the photo frame.

Thx for the advice. I'm thinking about quality filters so that it doesn't degrade the image so much.
Errmmm, I thought CPL is for outdoors (e.g. sky) and reduce reflection? I'm thinking about the CPL for outdoors.
Ok, I'll take your advice and not buy a CPL first. I will get a better quality UV filter mainly for my lens protection that doesn't degrade the image. Unless of course, the KEEP UV filter would not make much of a difference in image quality?
Note : There's a lot of people selling Canon or Nikon prime lenses (2nd hand) in garage sales but NOBODY selling Sony ones!!!

CPL is good, but use it with cautious, many people forgot to open it back after use, than its stack up with the uv filter hard to open it.. n forgot to take out n use cpl all day along even with normal photshoot.. at the dark area also use CPL, n question why blury, hard to focus etc2 lol..
n why hardly found 2ndhand prime? thats mean our prime is good.. no want to sell it except maybe 1 to upgrade to F1.4 or CZ,
why sells? because once u use sony u wont want to let it go maaa.. right?
Owh.... true oso....
However, maybe they want to upgrade ma. Waiting for ieR to upgrade his gear and sell me cheap cheap.....

*edit: sorry for being so sarcastic,.... bad day at work. sorry
well, i know more then 15 users with 1750, they all using units with No Problem at all(only 1 1750 user with issue, and he fixed the issue anyway... wasnt the lens!) and they are the one who convince me, the Purpose of this lens.
if anyone says bokeh at 105mm F5.6 is nicer then 50 F2.8, so be it... at least i know i can shoot 50mm F2.8 in a lift.... 105mm cant.

hey guy , how u think this picture , just random shoot and play with wireless flash,
bigger A300 + 1870mm 70mm F5.6 iso100 1/500 sec Wireless F42AM flashgun fired decrease the color saturation . crop out the top(fell uncomfortable ) increase the brightness JPEG directly out

She's beautiful. Is the photo post processed (PP) and cropped? IMHO you need a wider (ie <50mm) and faster (ie bigger aperture) lense (prime or zoom). I think, since you shoot indoors, if you have a wider lense, you'll be able to shoot a more full-er body subject (ie not just the face, but also your daughter's whole body as well). You will have more options in "cropping" and compositioning your photo.
Maybe a Tammy 1750F2.8 or 1680CZ ? hehe or Sony SAL35F1.4G

Nope, the photo was taken in JPEG. unprocessed and not cropped. It was a snap shot, didn't have time to get ready.
It was not because of the lens as I have the 18mm-250mm. I was just too near with my lens zoomed.
I've got a few other subsequent pictures which is clear but didn't get that "moment" that I want. So sad.....
Thx for suggesting the 1750 or 1680CZ.... I've already been poisoned kaw kaw....

IMHO for indoor shooting, 50mm lense on APS-C camera usually not wide enough. That was why I suggested something < than 50mm lens

I did not realize that you have the 18250 lens. That lense should be wide enough for your indoor photo shots... but not fast (ie refering to aperture, not AF) enough for low light shooting. You'd have to bump up the ISO (which A550 is good in handling high ISO jpg) and/or lower the shutter speed (which is not ideal for shooting kids as it is difficult to make them stay still). For outdoor and bright sunny day, the 18250 would be good.

why the bokeh is not smooth. is it because of pl-filter ?(its not cpl. not typo)

thanks guys.. glad you guys like the shots. Im just a normal cosplay photog by weekends (my job has nothing related to photography) I'm a fan of cosplay/anime-convention goer since 2005, only in 2008 i upgrade from pns to a300 and since then im learning.

Yeah, at night under fluorescent light not that good but way better than my compact.
Can't use slow shutter speed for my baby at the moment as she won't stay still. Furthermore, seems like she doesn't like me to take her photos as she will look any other way except towards the camera when I want to take photos!!!
arren.... photo composition might be improved slightly
1) part of your subject is cut off by the frame 2) Photo seems a bit dark(underexposed) 3) arrangement of subjects could be at the same plane(if u want to picture all the flowers) OR shifted so ONE flower is completely in focus
also take note of the rule of thirds, try to keep ur subject in the intersect of the vertical and horizontal lines... (google if not clearly understood)

good good.. u guys are posting some nice 'regular' pics.. who knew that something regular can turn out to be interesting in the eyes lens of a photographer... yes, u're a photographer even when u just started.. firt\st you become an owner of ur camera, then after u 'molest' and fully utiize it then u are a photographer..
So i did check online status of my slr. found out that costs me RM398. But the RM398 is it includes RM20 checking fees and RM195 service charges?? i have yet to call the hotline, tomorrow will

@cjlai >try 85mm f1.4 n the bokeh sh b creamy smooth OH U :3
I was just wondering why is the bokeh of 55-200 looks like linear lines here and there. could it be because i use PL-filter, or its the lens characteristics?
you can see the linear bokeh lines behind her (made it looks like i moved the camera while taking shot) is it because if the characteristic of SAL 55-200F4-5.6, or because of linear PL-filter i use?
need to bring camera to work because sometimes need to snap photos on site.. my a700 is too heavy with VG (i have a hand grip so kinda lazy to take it off everytime i want to bring the body only), and quite 'sayang' to bring it to work everyday.. budget kinda tight too.. and it just hit me, instead of a P&S, why not a cheap backup body?
the toy n skateboard was tied with few fish lines to my table lamp..background was 1 bigger table lamp..and reflector made with aluminum foilz to create random bokehs..
e-jump: You don't need a polarizer filter for that!
And yes, the 55-200mm is so-so with bokeh. Your PL might be making it worse though. That said, I like the picture of the dude in blue - the colors are very striking while still controlled.
kevinwcw: Main thing that the F58 that no other flash of any brand has, is the Quick Shift Bounce (sideways swivel). So you can use the built-in diffuser panel while in portrait mode (with any other flash it will become a thin strip.)
Right is F42 in bounce mode; notice the diffuser becomes useless here.
The F42 (below) needs a third-party diffuser while the F58 can go solo.
err..nope..old one..lol..the small skateboard is new tho..bought it from ebay for USD0.01...lol @mastering89 i prefer the frontal view tho..and for the top view..shd have keep the leg n tail in frame..
oo.. the top view one juz want show the cat's sitting "style" like tis one. at the same house, might be relative
Dowan! Maybe if somebody poison me some more on the greatness of remote wireless flashing using better flash gun
Yup, the diffuser can be used when flashed directly and not when bounce flash.

Cool. Will try that.
I don't even know what is slow sync flash mode. Have to google.....
Yeah, it was a close shot......
Bro,May i know where is the diffuser?I cant seem 2 find it when Im fondling with the F20AM at a sony center few days back.Or you need 2 do some settings 1?what i remember is there are 2 types of settings you can do : 'direct or bounce' n 'normal or tele' only rite?please advise.planning 2 buy 1..anywhere can get cheap?1st or 2nd doesn't matter as long as there's warranty..ty..

Oopss, sorry, I'm a super noob in DSLR.
I thought the "Tele" was a diffuser as I was told by the Sony centre person. I checked the manual and it says the "Tele" switch with [Tele position] at which the flash can reach further...... Sorry ya....
If you have the budget, most people will tell you to get a better flash gun rather than the F20AM.

why the bokeh is not smooth. is it because of pl-filter ?(its not cpl. not typo)

Thanks for the complement Noted. Was thinking to get blueish sky (and totally forgot to remove it for non-sky shots ). I'll ditch the PL and only use for scenery/thru glass shots. Btw, dude is a girl (but yeah, she's cosplaying male character)
@Braynumb: yep. pretty girl. hope i can work with her next time around
MechaHerc: Better to get the A550. The KM 5D and 7D have the First Black Frame problem - make sure if you buy it, that the FBF is fixed. The A100 is noisier than any other Alpha (but it's also got crispier CCD output.)

it is noisier.. tried random indoor shots yesterday.. pump up to ISO 400 can see noise dy.. wanna try some outdoor shots later in broad daylight.. hope it is okay..
been looking for 5D or 7D, but no one selling.. so settle with a100 only

It is not recommended to store in the bag in your cabinet especially for prolonged periods. Take a look at the on-going guide on DSLR storage. Still in progress but does cover storage:

to me its the background tht doesnt goes very well with the portrait..can i know whether its a backdrop or its post processed background?
well, a professional photographer (who works for Reuters) once told us during a talk that "The background makes or breaks the photograph". I find that to be so true and I tried to stick to that nowadays.....
Thanks all for the comment ... .. I need more comment from you guys .. .. just want to know is it a good, normal, or bad portrait style .. ..
achew, it is a post process bg .. it does not looks well with the people might be because of shadow is a lil bit over ..

anyway..these 2 shots looked much better imo ^^
@kysham ya..agree..even sometimes in my portrait..my background was so blur that u cant see a sh|t..but i still choose carefully on my background....the subject is important..but the background brings out the subject if u choose correctly.. =D

kelvin, try join the TT... u are very er how to say,... rush, panic, impulsive to buy thing, but not knowing what u really really wans. get to know what u wan before u buy.
should i get a flash first or a zoom lens to replace 1855?
both of them r very diff thing that serve diff purposes...shoot more and u'll know automatically which one is the one u need..if u dont feel anything..then u dont need it..
u should sell all your stuff except 50mm....then buy a a700+1680+f58am...lol yes it is the flash power difference between f42 and f58...one is 42 GN while another is 58 GN....
Someone is selling A700 and 1680 for Rm4.3 in alphanatics
kevinwcw, ha ha ha dont be an owner.. be a photographer instead.. ofcoz the poisonous people always trying to get u the best that there is.. but u really have to start slow mah.. make it worth.. with ur skill.. the gear only helps to make the picture become more to what u like..
he is from Miri, used to own several lenses, but sold ALL of them, leavig only 1870 and his beloved A300. look at the photo he shoot. (he sold his flash too i think)
if u dont shoot group photo..i guess u can survive with 50 1.4 without flash..
my way of learning was i tried to shoot with the light available b4 i move on the learn about flash techniques....if possible..normally i'd try not to flash all the time..

thanks for advice...save the money first...go get a handstrap first..
f58?i am using a330 add f58 will be extreamingly bulky...a330 poor grip..haiz
If you want to buy a flash for your a330 only... then the F42 would be a better choice IMHO. But if you have some plan for the future and possibly future body upgrade, I suggest get the F58 aka "cobra"

its really up to you.. if u need something.. ask ur self is the accessories/gear can fully fulfill ur need? if u need compact car, go for compact car.. if u need 4x4 then go for 4x4.. the same goes for brands.. if u like olympus for its bright color and 3/4 system.. then go for it.. if u'd fall in love with lomography.. go ahead..
for me.. after olympus and canon.. i use sony for the convenience and the color, the sharpness of it.. the beauty of pop-up wireless flash (really spamming this feature when im at home) currently loving the 50mmf17 and might be sticking for a looong while..
and in the future.. if i really need the 52 focus point, i might jump to D300.. or if i need other requirements then i'll find the equipment to do that..

you forgotten...and recently...zeiss fan...nothing can beat that... not even C or N
C & N only got manual for zeiss
uh... I think C got AF with Zeiss when it's the ZE mount... correct me if I'm wrong... ZE mount is for C EF mount... with camera contacts... like the Distagon T* 18mm f3.5, 21mm f2.8, 25mm f2.8, 28mm f2, 35mm f2, Planar T* 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 and the Makro Planar T* 50mm f2 and 100mm f2. (dreaming about the Planar T* 50mm f1.4 in M42 mount wonder how much...)
52 focus point really a point to jump? sony one not accurate enough? juz a noob question here.. hope u all dun mind
manalah tau suddenly terfikir mau kan that feature.. i'd saw someone buy a camera body for even a stupider reason than that.. its ur money and if u think that's what u want the buy it.. its u and ur head/eye/hands coordination that gonna make 'that' picture happens..
have u heard someone buy the a550 simply for the smile shutter function? some may think that's nonsense.. but if the photographer buyer think that a good enuff reason for him/her to own that particular camera then its good riddance for them..
p/s: i heard last time someone bought the 75300 for the range but never uses it beyond 90mm ha ha ha.. so can we judge him? IMHO as long as he's happy then its good for him lor..
dude, noticed you have the LCS-SC20... where did you get it? planning to get it too...
how do u wana do??using hippo??or silica gel??
oh the bag..i get it in sony center..is LCS-SC6 actually..its similar to 20..the small one..no the big one..i think it cost rm160 according to the salesgirl
Braynumb: Canon does not have AF with Zeiss ZE lenses!
And don't be a sheep. If somebody jump means you must jump ah?
I find it quite silly that there are people here who tend to follow without knowing why. One fella sells his 16-105mm, then another fella with a 16-105mm also wonders why but decides to sell anyway. One fella gets a split focusing screen, suddenly a lot of people want it, but they don't understand what it is for and when it cannot be used.
ahahaha... demmit.. i shopping for my zoom now...ahahah crazy.... my a700 only got prime and tele.... thinking of 16-80....(im sorry if i bring this topic up again)
i understand that f2.8(tamron 1750) is only 2/3 stops above f 3.5 (for the ziess at 16mm and or 5/3 steps above f4.5(ziess at 80mm).... but the difference in focal lenght and the "SPEED" of focussing is different no?
anyone with personal experience with this....i know the lens elemens and coatings for the ziess are superior resulting in better contrast...
anyone care to comment on the
1) comparative speed of autofocusing in low light ( wedding ballroom) 2) lens build 3)known issues 4) etc etc
...currently still compiling data using reviews....
thanks! the colors only pop out after adjusting the level since it was actually quite a dull & cloudy day yup... this set is shot in Taiwan in December. Taroko Nation Park to be exact thanks I still need practice with manual focusing. only able to get this after 10+ shots @ minimum focusing distance. others all OOF nice shot! i like how the boy shirt color stood out from the sea of blue

yea...i figured... i see that u are using a a700...same!
does the a700 low light performance compensate for the ziess "darkness" enough.....
meaning if u shoot at iso400/800 , in low light, no flash, are the photos "professional"- all other things constant eg : skill, wb, aperture, yada yada
professional - able to be convincingly beautiful(debatably i know), not noisy and sharp

for me , using ISO 400/800 on a700 with zeiss is acceptable. just dont shoot on the area thts too dark. of coz frankly it totally cant compare with something using flash in low light....
24-70..not ideal range for a aps-c zoom.... effectively it would be 35-100?...not to mention its 5k ++ price....ahahha.... my percentage meter will NEVER reach 100% like that haha... and with regards to the others...erm... focusing on a zoom...not yet time to play with the danger-primes yet...
neo_lam.... any personal dissapointments against this lens?....i know the benefits...everywhere got... ahahah.... no worries..if really no light..then can flash mar... or tripod...its still better than the 1870 by LEAPS
.. O_O.... very nice walkabout lens...easy to upgrade to ff also good...but 2.5x the pricing.... very interesting..... u have many dangerous lenses...i shall not ask about the 85mm 1.4 ...... i shall not say a word.... problems would be the range as well as the "no wide shots" for zoom.... can u fit group shots in?
sure...just need to take couple of steps back...that will do the trick...
lwliam: yeap...sold of everything that i got previously...widest i have now is 24mm
previously before i had my 11-18, the widest is 28 mm... its starting to get pretty restrictive after a while... when i got my UWA, everythings just frees up... feels so much more relaxed
hmmm that is debatable lwliam....i actually dont really like distorted photos...i find them.......weird a bit ahahah...also fisheye is not to my taste...
if i can find the perfect focal range that begins JUST before distortion sets in....that would be my ideal wide!
so it depends on individual pref though...
given the choice(leave money out of the equation)..id gladly take the 24-70.... but funds dont allow....the f 2.8 and SSM would be PWNING!
lwliam, weixuan: i'm planning to upgrade to FF once the replacement for A900 comes out...so...just need to tahan till i get my FF...
24mm on FF should be comfortable enough...compare to aps-c
lwliam: previously i had my sigma 10-20, 16-80 and 18-250...base exif...all my shots are usually taken avgly at 30-60mm...so...24-70 will fit my style just fine...

i know what u mean when u say distorted, but sometimes in tight conditions it really saves the day (and even with pronounced distortion) it gives more kick than just any regular joe's photos. but it of coz boils down to preference.

product shoot.. i use the 50mm because that a comfortable range for me.. i do food shots using my 50mmf17 and for jewelry i use the 50mmf28macro

getting a 2nd body is last option in my list, where 2nd last is skip the event and pretend it didnt happen

Added on January 26, 2010, 9:04 am me no sifu... but with a550, the 1680 CZ is very tempting no? hehe
It's indeed tempting but... I still would like to utilize all the basic lense only go CZ... No point getting the high gears if I still not able to fully utilize the basic gears.
I've just browsed a few pages of the Pentex thread and I must say that Pentex is very bold with color (camera body color to be specific... not photo image color ). Other camera makers are very conservative in that area. I think Sony did experimented with camera body color with the A380 (ie the brown color). I wonder if Sony would be daring enough again in the future to come out with camera bodies that go against the conservative tradisional black (or black/crome for film) color camera body ...
