AS the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 17 times in their history - 10 times in the last 11 seasons. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup twice, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

Liverpool came here for the EPL survival

Definitely they will up the game.. It is not an easy game though we are at home. Hopefully Torres' goal is a wake up call for us to up the game as well

Anderson was caught out of position quite a lot of time, Vidic did an uncharacteristic mistakes, Evra mistime a tackle.

No complain there, wouldn't say we deserve to be behind, but they took their chances better. Something like Arsenal game.

Both team play well, but is the team that take their chances that can make themselves count.

Hope we can pull back an early goal in d 2nd half. But a draw wouldn't be that bad also, just hope we don lose.

Well said la, shortlegs. To tell the truth, liverpool has been creating more chances than us, i feel. A draw would suck, but oh well. If this result stays, we'll be 4 points ahead with 1 game in hand right?

no one can deny they deserve to be in front... both penalties are fair... in terms of attacking they were better than us. so down 2-1 at half not so bad i think. i'm sure MU will recover in 2nd half.

Sorry but i have to admit ... FERDINAND & VIDIC is lacking of speed ....
take a look at their slow motion replay . When they about to speed up to catch the ball , you notice the slowness .

Ferguson, is time to buy NEW central defenders .....

ey guys. If you're unhappy with the team's performance, I understand. It is also completely in your right to rant about it I know. But I really don't understand why you all are shooting down players who have normally done well and crucifying them over one match's performance?

Hehe. The defence have been doing great for almost the whole season. Give them some slacks la. Angin tak bagus. What to do.
I have to agree, they've becoming more arrogant these days. Include us fans. Hehe.
Oh well, its not the end for us. We still leading and a game in hand.

Vidic red card was very harsh for ManU.They played very well and could well equalise in the 2nd half after 3 subs in.But....nobody to blame seriously.Vidic is doing his job well and if he miss out on Gerard the score could still be the same.

If Vidic didnt pull his shirt, he will be blamed for another goal . No choice, lack of speed leads to that. He;s the last man to mark the man inside penalty box .

Not to worry, Unite still can win EPL . no doubt smile.gif

It has been a long time since we haven't lost this badly. Or even, at Old Trafford...

A good wake up call for the lads. We've been too complacent and too custom with victories. Once in a while we have to have a good reality check.

But still I was very disappointed with the way the team played overall.. This was clearly Liverpool's day and to credit, they deserve it.

Yes, we were slow today. The packed fixtures is starting to get us. That is all. Liverpool also had bad days but today its ours. On the end of the day, its the trophy in the cabinet that counts.

Okay, good match.

Why? Now we can filter those glory hunters out.

Sell Vida? No Giggs and Berba? What formation SAF?

Feck off all of you.

It's a good time for us to lose to wake up. We need to lose. Pool played much much better. Good lesson for Rooney for having his big mouth. Everyone is on top of their head before the match. We weren't like this last season.

Before the match, Vida said this. Rooney said that. Backfired. I figured that we would lose this one. This will make the lads realize and fired up for the league.

I just wake up and realize it was down to 2-1. Now i know why i'm not really that excited about this game from the beginning. But this is football man. I know this is a kind of humiliation to us. But what makes me angry the most is the comment from this thread..

1) u call urself a big fan of Manchester United Football Club?
2) If we lose, so what? we'll lose the title also in the end?
3) Is there any fcuking club in the world win every game they play without losing?
4) can u tell me which one of the big club in the world never had this kind of humiliation?

Just chill man. Take this as a lesson. Otherwise the lad have no intention to improve and they will keep thinking that they are the best..

I hope SAF will give a big big scold to them so that they will awake and playing more beautiful football in every games after this.. icon_rolleyes.gif

I agreed.
We really need to lost some games to bukle up.
We have been tired these few games, winning by not playing pretty well.
Tonite is the nite to wake up.

There are good things of losing today actually

Remember last time we lost 1-4 to Manchester City, we go on winning streak and take over Arsenal on top
Remember last year we lost 1-2 to Arsenal, we go on 14 clean sheet and 11 winning streak

But it's ok. I would rather have the team defeated to Liverpool 1-4 today and still win the BPL... but then.. of course.. local pride is tainted for sure. Still painful though

yes, Liverpool is superb tonight
yes, we really, really just, don't perform
yes, Vidic is is red-carded
but hey, maybe we just needed a lose to regain our top performance.
maybe we deserve to lose
we play a little bit arrogant, a little bit lazy
they punish us for that
this is what we need, really.
we need this humiliating defeat at Old Trafford
and let this be a valuable lesson.
whatever the scoreline is, we still 4 points + 1 game ahead of them.
let this be the last.

This is the kinda shit the team needs to go through every once and then. A wake up call. A good tight slap on the face saying "Hey, the reality of losing the title is very real".

Credits to Pool. They played well and deserved the win.

As for Vidic? He's still human. Tonight was just not his night (or rather its day over there tongue.gif).

It's the title that counts. Arsenal did a double against us as well when we won the EPL title 2 years back. Remember my Ars friends teased me for that. So what? In the end I had the last laugh as Man Utd won the EPL which is the most important in the end.

1 or 2 loses to our greatest rival isn't exactly a total lose for the season, it hurts i know... but we've consistency... we've gone on this great run since the lost to Arsenal, we'll have another 1.
Liverpool will be back to their "draws" and Torres will get injured soon enough. LOL

To all fans here..

1. Stop complaining ridiculously like asking SAF to retire.

2. Don't behave like idiots like flaming other threads or being sore losers.

3. You guys clearly forgot (I too) how it feels to be beaten. Yes 1-4 is harsh, and harsher since it was at Old Trafford. But this is when we see TRUE FANS not glory hunters who behave like idiots once a team lose.

4. Keep the spirits up. Glory glory Man United.

5. We will have revenge next season. And remember the BPL trophy.....

If there's any complacency creeping in, SAF's #1 task is to cure it. Soon.

good job by liverpool. rclxms.gif
really turned on the class today.

IMO,the only player worth his salt this afternoon was Park.
seriously,i didnt think anyone else should have even bothered playing.
also,after torres's goal,vidic seemed completely scared of him. sweat.gif dry.gif

The scoreline didnt do the game justice.
Pool had a penalty just before the break.
Led 2-1.
Then defended until the 77th minute, where Vidic got sent off (fairly,i suppose) and they scored another dead ball goal.
Playing with 10 man for the remaining 15 minutes,we had no choice but to attack.
The sad part was the changes came just before the red card,so Fergie couldnt even set-up the defence properly.
The 4th goal merely added to the pain...

In all,it was by NO WAY WHATSOEVER a dominating performance; a thrashing maybe, but thats it.

Everybody. We all feel the pain from the crushing defeat at home to our biggest rivals. But we must keep positive. We're 4 points ahead of Liverpool, with a game in hand.

They may have won this battle impressively on our home ground. But we will win the war all over.

1) We've already won for charity at the beginning of the season.

2) We've already conquered the world.

3) We've already won the league.........cup. ahahaha

4) We're still on course to conquer England

5) We still have a great chance of winning the oldest and greatest knockout tournament in the world.

6) Finally, we still have the chance of proving to Europe as well as the world that we can be the best team two years in a row.

GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED! NEVER GIVE UP!

Park was alright la. I was quite amazed at Park's substitution, the only ball winner we had on the pitch. The only player I had respect for was Rooney and Tevez tonight. Absolutely outstanding in determination, chasing lost causes, doing their best.

I have been quite pissed for a while here, not at the team, but at the "fans" on this thread. I have no right to say anything regarding them, but I'll just like to say to those who have dished out ignorant comments and flamebaited at other's threads. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. You remind me of 11 year olds who are childish and attention seeking. Grow up please!

As to the more mature fans who I see and those who of the regular residents of the MUST thread, I would just say, let them say what they want and don't get pissed off. It's useless getting angry and it's useless scolding them back, they will only visit this thread when they need to rant. Don't stoop to their level.

Understand what you think....but a lost still a lost...no matter 1-0 or 1-4...

i believe united has the characteristic to bounce back.....

Understand everyone of you might get frustrated not becoz we lose point but to our rivals.....but how many time we did the damage to them already for the past season...

in the end only one team will win....a team that perform consistently.....and that is man united...

Yes it was a straight red, but it wasn't supposed to it as he was not the last man. I;m hoping for a suspension overturn or sorts.

1 or 2 loses to our greatest rival isn't exactly a total lose for the season, it hurts i know... but we've consistency... we've gone on this great run since the lost to Arsenal, we'll have another 1.
Liverpool will be back to their "draws" and Torres will get injured soon enough. LOL

Just smile to them and say Congrats. That will make them stop. I always do that and now they dont even bother to tease me anymore. Well, i never said a thing even their team didnt win a match before. All in all, I love PJS. He should play every week. That lad is brilliant. And about Vidic, well he's absolutely brilliant since the start, he just made a few big mistakes today. No biggie. He's still Devils and i still love him. May we win in the next match. smile.gif

I have a strong feeling we will bounce back. Remember our last loss? To Arsenal last year? After that we went on an amazing unbeaten run plus the outstanding defensive run.

BTW, Vidic is the villain for us today, it may be harsh but its quite true. But I love Vidic. Why? Because he's been our hero of the season.

it's messy though.  sad.gif

well..it's not as easy as you think by selecting a player...

you have to think of form, scholes perform badly at inter match..

you have to think of fitness...this, normally the physio coach will assess them and tell alex about the player's fitness...

and maybe, SAF thought of anderson's energy to stop gerrard explosiveness, scholes might not do well..

and lastly, anderson is not a bad player after all, he's a decent player except for his shooting.

i think the team is over confident (inter match is obvious)...this match will teach them a lesson...and i'm happy that devils lose, and hope they can bounce back for the next match..

Ahh I came back later than I thought I would and when I watch it, we were already 2-1 down. Bad day for us today. The lads in particular was playing poorly today. And Liverpool did well to make profit out of those mistakes. A lose is a lose and no one, no f***in fan or what sort should ask for SAF's head for the lose. Now I f***in hope all those so called fan would bugger off to join the other teams and stop tarnishing Man Utd w the only line they know - Glory glory Man Utd. Not aiming to anyone but yeah, Im sure most of you would know about it anyway.

Off to the next game lads.

We weren't bad but we were just outplayed when it mattered. Vidic had one of the worst games of the season and the defending was atrocious. 2 goals were nothing more than 'hopeful' lobs to Torres and Gerrard but yet, it was very shoddy defending today.

I was trying to 'baptize' my girlfriend to support United but judging on the performance, she wasn't impressed. At least she knew better than to taunt me on the journey back or I'd have her walk in the rain.

You are tarring everyone with the same brush. You don't see the likes of Jonno, Duke etc, sms-ing anyone to taunt them. If anything ts1's post shows the difference between the two sets of fans. Leaving early when the lads need your support the most?

It is the price for success imho. The more successful and marketable you become, the more 'prawn brigade' fans you attract, fans with $$. Loyalty is a rarity nowadays. Happens in any other ground (even Anfield can be really quiet nowadays, but god forbid i have yet to see fans leaving in droves before the final whistle) but as you guys have been the most successful over the past decade or so it is even more obvious at Old Trafford.

Not sure about now, but Maine Road used to be bursting at the seams even when the other team in Manchester were slugging it out in the second division laugh.gif

the bad thing of losing badly to liverpool will make the neutrals think that liverpool is unstoppable now, by whacking 4 goals consecutively and it gave them the confidence of beating anybody in the world if they are at their best. well, at least we are not outplayed by them like real madrid..just that, we make many mistakes, giving them chance to counter attack..

anderson played ok for me.

not too bad.. so do we need to find someone to blame when we lose..

the whole team played poorly as a whole. but i believe 4-1 scoreline is a bit harsh. our bad performance didnt deserve to be defeated by that huge scoreline.. just the player is too tired mentally and physically (remember our game vs inter is a day later than liverpool's match)

.. and then we lost vidic, the morale drop to -ve, then we conceded the 3rd goal straight after that...

luckily it didnt have much time left. if we still have 45mins to play, this match could be like Bayern munich vs sporting..

well... it's always felt bitter whenever we lose to our rival.
To ease the pain, I will always try to look at the positive side... which is we're still top of the table with one match in hand.

I'm sure u guys prefer the position we are now rather than Liverpool inconsistent form struggling to get second spot.
Looking back on some odd records... we may need lost twice to a team in order to win the title.
2006/07 - lost twice to Arsenal but still win the title
2007/08 - lost twice to Man City but still win the title
2008/09 - lost twice to Liverpool... still leading the table]

Just take this as a lesson, I'm sure it's hard to swallow but the title is still ours to lose. We have dropped points tonight but no one can guarantee the others top 4 will not drop points from this final 9 matches.

Yeah what happen to Fletcher? He normally start big matches.

Am I the only one who think the substitutions are too late? I think Tevez was chosen as he has the pace and Berba has some injury problem prior to Inter game.

Again I believe this is a very good wake up call to the lads.

Remember that we last lost 3 months ago to Arsenal... and what happened next?

Sometimes we need a good kick in the a$$ to remind ourselves what it is like to lose and to not perform 100%. If we keep on winning all the time, when will we learn and remember right? This is like the first time since god knows when, that we lost badly at Old Trafford. Of all places... and some more of all players, it was Vidic (our best player all season) to be the culprit.

I do believe that it was more of the team not playing well... So this should remind them and also for Sir Alex to give a good walloping to the players in the changing room... We've been in this sh!t many times.. remember Man City 3-1 defeated us in 2002-2003 season?

Funny also to see that some of my liverpool supporting mates were starting to dare taunt me.. before this, they were mostly quiet. But then not all of them are idiots.. so let them have their day today. Hihi.. At least we are still top of the league and could afford to lose this and still smile. Remember who wins the league at the final day of the league matters..

The commentators knows shit. Look at Fergie's face! It meant something, alright!

Though I think this win shows Liverpool a quality side on their day (which happens 10 games out of 50), the title race is still over for them.

And positives:

- No injury
- A loss against Liverpool = unbeaten run? biggrin.gif Take Arsenal
- Evans gets games rclxm9.gif
- No slag for Johnathan SchIrwPallNevKeaCanO' Shea.
- Liverpool draws the next game is a definite!
- United fans can shut up about the quintuple and not have us flamed for being arrogant because not every United fan thinks we can achieve it!!!!

hmm, i don't think so, this is SAF's character, normally sub only around 65-75 minutes..unlike mourinho, he would normally sub them at halftime

i believe SAf has his own reason, because sub at 65-75 = fresh legs vs tired legs...but, sub earlier might had made more impact...

I think you're right with the Tevez over Berbatov decision.

But I think this was a game that we were going to lose the moment Vidic had an off-day. Sir Alex was never gonna take him off (it'd show a lack of faith and we know the gaffer, he TRUSTS his players! [both good and bad thing depending on situations]) but if Evans came on for Vidic? Just maybe...maybe.....sigh.

The Torres-in-pocket joke has to go to the cold freezer and NEVER be taken out again.

teams like liverpool and arsenal that rely on a small group of players can be magnificent in a few matches but horrible in a season.
what win silverware is a season, grinding out results and making everyone contribute.

Torres was very good tonight - great turn of pace earlier on in the game prior to the penalty but in equal measure, it was freakishly scary how poor our defense looked tonight. Hairdryer out!

Torres was very good tonight - great turn of pace earlier on in the game prior to the penalty but in equal measure, it was freakishly scary how poor our defense looked tonight. Hairdryer out!

EVEN with the hairdryer at half time.. laugh.gif
Ah well.. think our defence..they've had too much 'towel-drying' lately..

vidic deserves one bad day , liverpool simply too good and this game also exposed our weaknesses as well. our central midfield have been overhyped

anyway , its good for the sports as it wont be over in march or otherwise i'll be bored to death

i am sure this match will be a wake-up call . perhaps the quintuple thingy is a big distraction or indeed the lads deserve 1 bad game as well. still i see the willingness and determination from the players are not lacking . any game after the UCL match with inter is never easy . all who are associated with united the past 2 weeks must have their mind pre occupied with the UCL 2nd round and thus our focus are affected

still , man utd will win the BPL come MAY

We have to give credit to Liverpool. Clear winners tonight. And I would love to see how United respond after this....

United have always reponded.. So to the players, dust yourselves and stand up again and make yourselves counted...

What a player really..

That's the biggest advantage for those players with great speed and pace. They can outrun opponent defense and punish you with a slight mistake from the back... Giggs used to that alot during his 20s.

Liverpool Defeat Hard To Take, Admits Sir Alex Ferguson

QUOTE
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he was bitterly disappointed after seeing his side thrashed 4-1 by bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The champions took the lead in the game courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

However, goals by Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena sealed Liverpool’s win.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Sir Alex conceded he was still smarting from the loss but insisted his side will bounce back.

“It’s a hard one to take,” said the United manager.

“But at this club it’s always about how you respond to a defeat. When you lose a game: respond. And that is what we will do.”

A mistake by Nemanja Vidic allowed Torres to equalise and the Serbian was later sent off for a foul on Steven Gerrard.

Yet Ferguson refused to point the finger of blame at his defender but conceded he had deserved to see red.

“Nemanja has been unbelievably consistent for us with his performances this season,” said the Scot.

“Players do have off days, and he’s made a mistake. He’s a human being, all players make mistakes. It’s just a costly one for us.

“It looked as if [Gerrard] was clear to have a shot at goal, whether Rio could have got across, I don’t know.

“I don’t think I could really argue with the decision to be honest. We’d have been looking for a red card if it was against us.”

The result reduces United’s gap at the top of the table to four points, albeit with a game in hand, and Sir Alex admitted it had been a bad day for the Red Devils.

“Quite rightly if you win 4-1 at Old Trafford you deserve all the plaudits, you can’t deny Liverpool that,” he said.

“But if the league was starting today, you’d take a four-point advantage with a game in hand.

“The goal difference is narrowed, it’s only five goals now. It was a bad day, but we have to kick on now. It was a bad day in terms of the goals we lost.”

When I saw what Sir Alex did... honestly I had a very bad feeling about it.

What if one of our players got injured.

Why was the subs too late..

Why all 3 players at one go?

Then.. bang. Vidic got himself sent off...

To be honest.. It really makes me angry to see that all 4 goals conceded were because of mistakes. First goal, vidic's mistake. Second goal, evra's mistake. Third goal, vidic getting sent off and giving them the free kick. Fourth goal, defensive error where they manage to score from the mix up at the back.

Damn..

hey, the old man's being surprisingly polite and gracious in defeat... nice one.

^but to be able to have players the caliber of giggs, scholes and berbatov come off the bench is a luxury no other club has. dammit sad.gif

not really a good match for us. started surprisingly well. surprised to see sum of the selection but still ok considering we're at home. the turning point as i see it was when we concede the first goal. b4 that, pool weren't sniffing a lot on our goal.

anyway i hope vidic recovers from this bad game of his. his astute performance in previous games might have brought complacency into his game in this match causing him to underestimate torres's ability. we didn recover from that. i thot the half time hair-dryer treatment was enuff but unfortunately we couldnt score.

Remember our 4-0 victory in 2003. And remember that we beat them 3-0 last year.

Sometimes it is our turn... next year who knows? So take it easy bro.... you'll forget this at the last day of the season..

Something that i worry the most for United fan. Already get used to see us winning. What if we stumble (touchwood)? Heart attack maybe? Or commit suicide? Or jump ship?

Me always admire the remaining supporter of a team like Newcastle and Arsenal.

didnt see much of Ronaldo in action. Vidic lost was a big blow, Liverpool really exploited the Man Utd defence. probably now Vidic has a jinx with Liverpool.
its the same with Liverpool last season when Mascherano was sent off, the midfiled department was shatterd to pieces and ManUtd players exploted the attack to the mx.

kinda sad though to see the supporters leave the stadium early - understand the frustration of the fans.
p/s : when Vidic pulled Gerrard, did Vidic pegang Gerrards "anu"?? brows.gif

United always respond to down moments like these...

Munich 1958 is one good example... 10 years later we won the big fat pot.

I hope we will rise from this very bitter experience... Better now than later.

I could understand this kind of result if we were shite for several games before, but this is just incredulous. doh.gif

Forgive this crazy thought, but I'm wondering now if this is actually some kind of pisstake by Fergie. Look at the standings despite this. It's either to taunt the Scousers in the most ridiculous way, or to just shake the players up in terms of complacency... rclxub.gif

Once again, just a crazy thought. Forget that it's ever been mentioned. tongue.gif

CONGRATS TO LIVERPOOL for an amazing result. rclxm9.gif All goals are purely skills..

I guess I've gotta say this a few times. Liverpool trashed Man U, Liverpool Spanked Man U, Liverpool humbled Man U,

On March 14 The star news papers sports section, Wayne Rooney loudly declared " I HATE THE KOP", well now he ate back his words and got spanked so hard that it left a hand mark on his ass...Hehehehe

I know its pain but sometimes being too arogant will make you fall so hard...Well man u still got chance to take all trophies. rolleyes.gif

alaaa... even win at old trafford with lots of goals, doesnt mean they can win the title, nothing can be proud of if winning 2-3 games but yet still chasing behind. our team can play even better than their today's performance that's why we still on top. consistency is the key. as the table show, we are still better than the rest. no worries. next team sure kena belasah kaw2 punya...

Why did the fans leave the stadium even before the game ends?

I wonder who are the true fans when SAF retires, Man Utd might struggle without his leadership.

Just came back from the Hartamas Gathering as I have to teman my Arsenal friends watching their game.

Every season we sure face one team that will do a double to us and also with style.

Blackburn, Man City and now Liverpool.

They had done the double on us before but it was usually 1-0 and Danny Murphy was the scorer.

This time takes the cake as we were humilated 4-1 at OT.

Chin up guys and just remember 4 points on top with 1 game in hand.

last man on to goal and when u are beaten, defender foul = red card

go try that even on 1998 fifa PC game and u would get a red card, lol
