QUOTE(derred @ Apr 25 2008, 01:44 PM) from my previous post; if I am installing from ThumbDrive by using this installing from disc and thumbdrive no different. just the procedure of preparing the bootable USB drive a bit hassle http://www.i64x.com/eeexp.php guide, what are the steps that I should skip or change in order to make it works with thumbdrive installation? Thank you in advance. if u use nLite, remember to uncheck Manual Installation option in older thread. i repeat the process few times just because of this, when i already know at the first place... |

QUOTE(hangy2k @ Apr 25 2008, 10:40 PM) That means we have to beware that we check the battery before purchasing the 900.. by the way, is there a 5800mAh sold in Taiwan at all? Also, I have heard several reviews saying that the battery capacity are the same for both 900 and 701.. now i'm confused, I'm not sure which is which now.. |

Questions to ask:
1.What is the type of DDR2 RAM that eeePC uses? Is it the same with other current notebook? 2.Without voiding the warranty, is self-installing an option? |

how much is the current price for 4G?
Digi's Eee PC bundle data plan Total payable for 24 months is RM123 x 24 = RM2952 Digi's data plan is RM66 per month x 24 for data access is already RM1584 So that's leave RM2952 - RM1584 = RM1368 for the Asus EeePC 4G + Data card... worth it kah? |

wah... first thinking of 701... now with 900 closing in, i think 900 is the best option under 2k... and under 1kg... All the basics in.
But when will it arrive here? Anyone bulk it in? or all of you wait for the resellers to have it here? |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ May 5 2008, 08:36 AM) Depending on the launch price and the actual battery life but I think the Wind should be a better contender since its got a big keyboard and support regular 2.5" HDD bigger keyboard meant bigger area to add stuff in. not forgetting 2.5" 320GB hdd for prawn problem is when Wind gonna come? |

Only 701 can detect the Starbucks wifi and others didn't... |

I recently subscribed to the Digi 123 to jump on the mobility's craze. Ok, what do I get for RM 123 (contract 2 years);
1. Asus Eeepc with camera and wifi and Windows XP complete with free mouse (RM 1649), 2. Asus Data Modem (RM 1159) and, 3. Digi The Edge (384k) (RM 66 x 24=1584) Total is RM 4392. I pay RM2952(installment for 2 yrs interest free). I used to have Streamyx RM44 for 512k for 60 hrs a month. If you were to compare, of course Streamyx is faster but after 1 week of usage, Digi is kinda acceptable (to me at least and I don't get pay to write this). Well, lots of people already know about this package, I want to introduce something value added to the already attractive package. The sales professional I got this package from is quite good and patient. I recommend her if you want to get this package or other things from Digi. She is based Digital Mall in PJ and can be contacted at 016-20 34567. Attached is her photo. ![]() |

Most likely will be joining the EEE PC gang. Quite attracted to DiGi EDGE RM 123 package.
Nice portable laptop, though it has limited features but it is enough for normal usage like surfing Internet via WiFi, chatting and listening to music. This post has been edited by fruitie: May 10 2008, 11:06 PM |

hmmm since the EEE PC 900 (Windows) version is more ex and has a smaller SSID ... is it possible that we buy the Linux version and then juz install XP on it? and then u get a bigger SSID space if u get the linux version too as well yea?
thx guys =) cant wait for the 900 to be here in msia .... really wanted to get the 701 coz its so cheap ... xD but then rather wait coz of the size of the screen ... xD |

Does it make sense to get the Eee900 in Taiwan now?
What other stuff (computer stuff) I could get in Taiwan which is far cheaper than M'sia? |

I'm planning to go to Singapore soon and maybe go visit Sim Lim to check out the Eee PC 900. Anyone knows the latest price now in S'pore? Better to get myself well informed so I won't be cheated.
Actually I already have a notebook and a home pc but I need a very light notebook to bring it everywhere with me for work purposes. My work mainly needs me to use the internet, not much besides that. You guys think it's a good choice to get this? How do I check that the battery is 5800 mAh and not 4400 mAh? |

WTF?!
What is ASUS thinking of doing anyway. With a new EEE PC out?! And I'm not talking of the upcoming 900... I Thought that the EEE 900 is the latest one with Intel Atom but it seems like ASUS came out with ASUS EEE PC 901. Gizmodo: EEE PC 901 There is a redesign and it looks better. No ASUS logo in the back of the screen but the EEE logo. I think ASUS is killing it's own product... Just like Nintendo with NDS and NDSL... |

Asus, Singapore provide free swap if the eeePC u buy is 4400 mAh but quite a hassle if u stay in MsiaActually I already have a notebook and a home pc but I need a very light notebook to bring it everywhere with me for work purposes. Get a cheap laptop - it's much more comfortable to use.Added on May 18, 2008, 8:53 amI'm currently using my EEE to do casual ebook reading on-the-go. One of the problems with the EEE keyboard is its lack of dedicted PgUp/Down keys. They are overloaded into the Up/Down keys where you need to press it in conjunction with Fn.
This makes it impossible to scroll in most apps using only one hand!! An exception is Adobe Reader, where you can use rightShift + Up/Down. |

OK, if you think so
I suggest that you at least get a USB keyboard+mouse to use when you're docked at a desk. Using the EEE sure gets me funny looks on the streets. A fair number of people have come up to ask me about it. Finally got 3G hooked up through my Nokia today, and it's starting to fulfill my expectations |

QUOTE(Balok @ May 19 2008, 11:02 AM) anyone tried OS X on eee pc? I saw the haxs tho... Pretty nice. But what I heard it was damn lagging for the OS to run. interested on EEE PC 900 for OS X anyway is there any URL teach how to mod it? BTW what's the difference on 900 and 901? EEE 900 Same specs like the old EEE 701 but with larger screen which support 1024x600 screen rezo. And a trackpad which utilizes multitouch technology... More or so like Apple multitouch. EEE 901 New design. No ASUS logo at the laptop, replaced with EEE Bluetooth New Intel Atom processor Seems... Bulkier.... |

instaling osx tiger either on 4gb ssd on the eee701 or on the 4gb ssd not the 16gb ssd of the eee900 is not exactly rocket science...but in order for wifi to work you need to install the dell 1391 builtin..and do..the vga thingy..osx runs very well under 630mhz not full 900mhz speed...and only tiger, not leopard is supported by the celeron cpu which supports only up to SSE2...but I can't wait ti try leopard on the eee901 atom...

Yeah they stuffed up the EEE 900 specs there - it definitely doesn't have bluetooth.
Now I'm torn between getting a $40 USB mini-bt adapter, or going for a $200 USB HSDPA modem. |

Oh wait, can someone explain to me on the 4GB + 12 GB Flash thingy? I'm confused about it. This is for the Linux version right? If I install Win XP(NLite) in it, will it affect the speed and performance?
I'm also at a cross-road, wondering if I should buy EEE PC 900, MSI Wind or HP Mini...the price of EEE PC 900 isn't cheap anymore so it doesn't stand out as much as its predecessor. |

I went to Lowyat yesterday and one guy there told me Eee PC 900 comes out here only in August. The one in Yeahstore looks pretty good! Good price. But yesterday I fell in love with Kohjinsha...but it's just too expensive!!!

Hello guys. I've been using eeepc 701 for about 11 days now, it's a very capable little machine...i have to say that. I bought it as used item from a forumer as I was looking for a cheap sub notebook. Just done a presentation using eeepc together with my new Toshiba projector...very handy indeed.

My gf is still not sure whether she will like to take the EEE PC 900 as the price is slightly higher than 700. Is 700 enough for her? Hmm..

Few hundreds ringgit for :
1. 8.9" screen - higher resolution 2. 12gig of ssd 3. celeron processor running at full speed - 900mhz 4. 1.3m pixel web cam 5. improve touch pad Make your judgement. |

I can get EEE PC 700, but 900 seems prettier. But the price is over my limit.
Do you guys think there will be a decrease in the price for EEE PC 900 when MSI Wind arrives? |

The price RM1850 in YeahStore is for which Eee900 model? The one with Windows or the Linux version? or both selling at the same price?

QUOTE(realshinjae @ May 27 2008, 12:09 AM) I can get EEE PC 700, but 900 seems prettier. But the price is over my limit. To go from RM1299(701) to almost RM2000(900) makes the 900 so much less attractive even with the improvements. That's why many people are still considering other UMPCs. I guess the price will decrease only when they come out with newer model than the 900.Do you guys think there will be a decrease in the price for EEE PC 900 when MSI Wind arrives? |

I feel the minimum acceptable resolution for myself is 1280x768 2. 12gig of ssd --> Actually no diff also.. better to use SDHC instead. More flexible. No matter 4GB, 8GB, 12GB or even 20GB is still not enough/puny compared with a regular HDD 3. celeron processor running at full speed - 900mhz --> 7" also can run the same with eeectl 4. 1.3m pixel web cam --> Only for the webcam freaks. QUOTE(Superman7 @ May 27 2008, 04:32 PM) No...or not yet. I ended up buying HP Pavilion TX2032AU yesterday and am eyeing Kohjinsha. Yeahstore sells 900 for RM1850 but I'd like to wait till August to see how much they offer in Lowyat. I haven't totally obliterate the idea of owning an Eee PC from my mind yet. Very greedy I know! Oh forgot to say that I think the one in Yeahstore should be the same price for both Linux/Win XP coz it stated both OS in their spec. This post has been edited by estara: May 27 2008, 04:45 PM |

VIA's Isaiah CPU architecture has been rebranded Nano. Competition for Intel's Atom? Source
QUOTE VIA Nano is the first 64-bit, superscalar, speculative out-of-order processors in VIA’s x86 product line-up.... Nano offers about 1.6x to 3.2x the performance of the C7 clock-for-clock while within a similar, albeit somewhat higher, power envelope. Good news? Should start seeing it in the market Q3 2008... |

Hehehe I have a feeling that by 3rd quarter of 2008 there will be many UMPCs coming out...I think I might as well wait till then to decide since I'm out of budget now. Then I can have a broader choice...downside is maybe more expensive by then...

seems like the 901 and 1000 are completely over-shadowing the 900 series...

Bloody hell, I seriously wonder why asus wanted to launch 900 if they know 901 is coming less than 1.5 months later. If I am in US now, i would probably RMA and get my refund, damn it! I rugi banyak lah.

That Eee logo has got to go. They need to take it out back and shoot it, then come up with a 21st century design.

the EEE logo is because of the branding... They want to make EEE like how Nestle brands Maggi...
but still... The Eee logo sucks... I like the asus logo better... I hope that Eee 900 drops its price... But if Eee 901 is below the RM2k range, I might consider to buy it... Damn them, why suddely release all the good stuffs out? Is it because everyone in joining in the 'Netbook' market now? Sheesh... 701 soon below RM1k... Hmm... tempting. This may be a good start for 3rd world countries to adopt technology... Since OLPC phailed to gain the popularity... |

Maggi didn't give a negative connotation for eg. but in our culture, EEE gives out a yucky impression, like "eee...yucks". Same as me. I wonder why don't they just stick with the Asus logo over it and move on. Carrying the name won't be hard right? but instead of putting a mark on the laptop with Eee....Later when carrying that computer around... Ppl think I like to stick fancy hello kitty stickers on my It's like killing your own product in a sense that they produce 900 out and told the public and selling it at a price of Rm1900, Then when the new ones came out, 901 is estimated to be sold at Rm1900 also. Eventhough that the 900 will still have a price drop. But the best thing is, having 701 at estimated price drop to RM900 is very interesting to low income earners who wants to learn about technology. They sell big with 701... But with the emerging market now of portables, I am wondering how far does Asus carry on the Eee. Probably getting the EEE 900 soon if the price is below Rm1500. I not so interested with the 901 with new logo and the thickness of it. Asus is making a big mistake with 1000 and 900. They should focus on making a sub-500$ notebook instead of releasing expensive UMPCs. Dell and MSI already garnering EEE supporters with their EEE clones.

Hi,
I have 2 friends going to Taiwan today and tomorrow. I have ask each of them to get me a Asus EEEPC 901. Not sure if it they can do it but I figure even if both of them gets it I should be able to put one unit for sale here Now lets see how it goes next Sunday. The official price in Taiwan for 901 is just under 17K Taiwan $. Well I am keeping my fingers cross. jackdon. |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Jun 15 2008, 09:50 AM) Headsup: so.. celeron-m 900 will blow atom 1.6 out of the water??Eeepc 1000H already on sale in taiwan. Didn't like it though... the shiny black makes it look cheap and plasticky. ps: The Atom diamondville has more or less the same performance as the celeron-m 633mhz 1 Eeepc 900 for me! |

I am waiting for 901 as well though I might still get a 900 eventually. Just hope the release will cause other price to drop. I am getting it for backup and travel purpose, how many of you actually use it as your primary notebook? |

The one that gives you most bang for the buck is still the 701. It's so cheap these days with all the "pre-owned" sets being tossed out. A little speed bump with EeeCTL can let you play such games as GTA:SA and WoW. It is bar none the best money I've ever spent on a handheld device, especially when you compare it to the hugely overpriced and underpowered HP Mininote.

QUOTE(mych @ Jun 19 2008, 02:00 AM) What kind of serious gaming? DotA, Max Payne, GTA3, WoW(?), are playable in the EEE Pc 701 and 900. I would really think that 901 and 1000 can work better on games. But will it still run hardcore games like NFS, DMC? Unless with software and a primary power PC, I think Asus EEE can only work those simple easy games. I'm getting the EEE for surfing and work, (Searching for pictures, research and typing) I don't think that the EEE will help me much. I'll still get a Primary PC. But EEE acts for me like a portable machine that suits my needs. I have till August to save money. Probably will get the 900 version if it drops the price. If it's the same price as 901 or a few hundred more...... Then I'll get the 901. |

701 pricing is really good and tempting... but after looking at the screen, its really small and its a hassle coz of the small lil screen .... I personally would go for the 901 =)
not bad la ... my funds for 901 is already RM400 ... another 4 to 5 months to go ... hopefully could get it by then lo ... =) or unless Dell punya Slim E and stuff is cheaper ... then of course I would go for something which is a bang for my buck ... =) |

Friend called from Taipei, 901 no stock. The 900 is 20G linux is selling for 15500 NT$. Looks like I will wait for the 901 to be release. From some of the benchmark seen the 901 graphics performance is about 3x faster than the 900. jackdon |

If you use your notebook for work, don't think any EeePC with a Celeron M or even Atom will be able to replace it. You're better off looking at the new Compaq B1286TU. It'll be a lot closer to the power you'd expect from an actual desktop, but small and light enough to carry around without getting a workout. Here's a quick comparison between the B1286TU and 1000H:
RM2500 vs ~RM2000 1.9KG vs 1.45KG 2GHz C2D vs 1.6GHz Atom |

QUOTE(rahuldave @ Jun 21 2008, 04:57 AM) Good comparison, but is the new atom processor too bad to replace a normal desktop? Is it to slow to perform? I think from some benchmarking done on the Atom vs the Celeron M's in the current Eee's, the Atom doesn't seem to deliver as much as anticipated from the numbers and conclusions other people had. B1286TU is good in features but the weight 1.9kg is quite bulky......for traveller..... Anyway, good point of view Sorry, I can't remember exactly were is the link but a good start would be the eeeuser forum. I think the S'porean VR-Zone EeePC forum also had a thread on the Atom's performance. 1.9kg already considered good leh. My last work laptop is like 3kg, and I find the 2kg of my TX2000 is pretty manageable. Don't forget to factor in the weight of additional batteries if you are the frequent traveller / 'road warrior' type. |

I think the S'porean VR-Zone EeePC forum also had a thread on the Atom's performance. I read the same benchmark and came to the conclusion: 2000 bucks is too much to pay for something just slightly smaller and lighter than the current batch of 13" notebooks. Perhaps VIA Isaiah would make a better candidate, but it also depends on their pricing. Look, the 701 series costs about 1000 or less these days in the used market. Sure it's 7" but it does all the light computing tasks in spades. When you add another 1000 bucks to the equation, and only add a fraction of performance... I don't know. These Atoms can probably sell if they price them at 1299. Anything beyond that, with our current economy, and these guys would be just digging their own grave. Dell new's UMPC is going to win it all... I was dead serious about the Asus EEE PC, then I heard there will be a newer version and we all know it, and its old news.
But the new Dell... delicious! http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/05/exclusiv...i_laptop-2.html ![]() Staying in topic, I would love to see how Asus EEE PC fans would react to the upcoming Dell... |

For all you know, the whole UMPC craze might just collapse, as mainstream laptops get more budget-friendly, lighter, and smaller, and the UMPC's get more expensive, heavy, larger.
10 bucks says they'll converge at 10" screen size. |

I disagree... the new trend is UMPC - the lighter version of the already light version of laptops. 10 bucks says they'll converge at 10" screen size. I can already imagine a future of UMPCs... However its up to the consumer whether he/she can make do with the features present in a UMPC. However, in terms of size/portability, UMPC is the way to go ! |

That being said, even in S'pore, there are only a few shops that sell Eee extension batteries (6600 and 10400mAh) batteries and I noticed that most on VR-Zone eventually bought through Mass Orders or directly through Ebay. Here's a link to one such S'pore shop. Knew them from an IT expo: http://www.innovative.com.sg/battery/produ...roducts_id=5126 Looks familiar? |

QUOTE(scripted @ Jun 22 2008, 11:21 PM) Disappointed... it's probably something easy to design in and manufacture (hence the easy availability of the touchscreen conversion kits online) by Asus, but probably it doesn't make business sense. I am tengah syiok with my HP TX2000 tablet PC but at 2kg and 12.1" is still abit bulky to be really mobile. But the form factor when folded rivals an opened EeePC... now imagine if the Eee can also be folded and be a tablet... |

for sure. can probably pay for 2 eeePC 1000H even. or just go for a proper full size laptop.
& i don't think Asus can get away with selling the eeePC 1000H at SG$1.5k anyway w/o a built-in optical drive. but then the Kohjinsha SR is still cheaper than a Macbook Air...hehe |

QUOTE(cjtune @ Jun 23 2008, 11:16 AM) Does Kojinsha or Fujitsu or anybody else have a 10" touchscreen tablet UMPC that's about 1kg and have 4 hours battery life? maybe you can look at fujitsu P1610, P1620, but not too sure the battery life.Don't think so, but that's my ideal UMPC if it ever comes out... for long battery life will be the sony TZ series, but it doesn't come with touchscreen tablet. SSD split into C: 4GB - 1.26GB free D: 8GB - 6.7GB free Speed is pretty inpressive but since it is Chinese and I do not read Chinese so I will reinstall it with Tiny XP to scale down the OS to a smaller size.
