Good comparison, but is the new atom processor too bad to replace a normal desktop? Is it to slow to perform?

B1286TU is good in features but the weight 1.9kg is quite bulky......for traveller.....

Anyway, good point of view
*
to be honest, Asus never intended for the eeePC line so far to be a desktop replacement. the whole idea (so far) was for a low cost portable laptop to use on the go, e.g. commuters & uni students.

K cool, so the main prob is Video Conversion being slow. So the rest ie. 1,2,3,5 Is ok rite?

Wow, just notice the brand. Its not bad. U can refer here

With the weight 1.1kg including normal battery and it even has a DVD/CD Drive......its cool man

But the processor? Any comparison with Asus Eee PC Atom Processor? Price? Anyone.... thumbup.gif
*
for P2P stuff, it's more down to storage space, imo...think the eeePC can still handle the d/l part. but u gotta make sure u got the space first.

for Kohjinsha, i've seen their laptops, incl the one with the built-in optical drive. nice. tho i personally don't need the touchscreen & i don't fancy the whole swivel thing that comes with a touchscreen/tablet type laptop. but just note that it don't come cheap. the SR model costs SG$1.5k+ in S'pore (Sim Lim Square). rclxub.gif

for sure. can probably pay for 2 eeePC 1000H even. or just go for a proper full size laptop.

& i don't think Asus can get away with selling the eeePC 1000H at SG$1.5k anyway w/o a built-in optical drive. but then the Kohjinsha SR is still cheaper than a Macbook Air...hehe tongue.gif

not available yet & the distros/shops all don't have any news/idea of the ETA let alone the RRP yet... sad.gif

in any case, me don't wanna wait already. got myself an eeePC 900. hehe

@ Superman7 : i'm in S'pore...so i paid SG$760 (approx. RM1820). so far eeePC prices cheaper in KL compared to S'pore.

QUOTE(tplcaik @ Jun 28 2008, 07:41 AM)
this laptop just working normal like other laptop? I means can install win xp,microsoft word, other software that supported in xp etc....?Interested to get 1. I heard aspire going to launch 1 too?
*
yup...no worries, mate. runs all flavours of XP like a charm. rclxms.gif
well, mine's an nLite version...so i junked quite a bit off my copy of Win XP MCE05 (& now my eeePC thinks it's running on Win XP Pro SP2...errr oops?)

got Bootskin to run a custom boot up screen & using a custom Visual Style i got off deviantArt, so start up's a bit longer than the original +/-30secs boot up.

i've got Stronghold Crusader Extreme (full game) & the SPORE Creature Creator demo installedalso. no probs there too.

in fact, i'm now sitting @ BK & posting from my eeePC via Firefox 3 with WinAmp streaming an Internet radio station smoothly & digsby running too. + Avast is running in the background & just updated the virus database.

mighty impressed with what this lil lappy can take on... notworthy.gif

hey guys, pls clarify. what is the battery capacity of eee pc 900 sold here? 4400, 5200 or 5800mAh? thks
*
i think it's only either the older batch with 4400mAh batts (then need to take to ASUS to do exchange for 5800mAh) or newer batch with 5800mAh batt right out of the box.

anywayz, today went McD's with the eeePC at 100% batt. was there almost 3hrs...WiFi on all the way, brightness 100%, volume at 20%, multiple applications running & doing a lot of file transferring also via ext HDDs with my friend. when i left, still got 30% to go on the batt. nice.

Kimganer,

I would assume you had a 900, WAY to go..... now with the launch of the 901 we should see further price drop smile.gif. And we poor parent would not have to foot out RM4/= for a small notebook for the kids.

jackdon
*
yup, using the eeePC 900 here. contemplated waiting for the 901, but so far it's nowhere in sight & price of 900 in S'pore still holding steady. so just heck care...go with 900. i can live w/o BT. haha

sold off my Macbook (it seems so super bulky now in comparison!) to fund for the eeePC 900 with the LG slim optical drive...think i bought the optical drive too soon. i have since figured out how to install XP & games like Starcraft using USB thumbdrive/HDD, so hardly use the optical drive. but i suppose good to keep it still as spare/backup just in case.

btw, what's the extra benefits of installing the Elantech trackpad drivers over the version provided by ASUS? will it be easier to use? cos now i find that the 2-finger scrolling thing is a bit hit/miss. & sometimes, this square thingy that can zoom in/out in the area that's within the square appears on my Firefox when i'm trying to click/scroll. so far still can't figure out how that happens...

kimganner,

I am still learning or trying to remember so much multitouch, with one finger, two finger, three finger, up down sideways, tap..... but after a while it seems to be pretty handy. I like the 3 finger swip up to bring up the my computer, I change the two finger tap to minimize, the tap tap and hold is just great. Yup you have to get use to the timming. I am sure you cannot compare with your MAC on these feature.

Still learning,

jackdon.
*
haha...yeah. too right. esp since Macbook's got no multitouch touchpad.

Balok : i'd go with 900...cos 7" is seriously small. you'll end up squinting yourself blind. think right now the trend is for 701 users to eventually upgrade to 900.

actually, that's very similar to what Shuttle has...tho that's meant to go with their SFF CPUs...

QUOTE(blurprincess @ Jul 2 2008, 09:16 AM)
i was wondering 1 week ago as u.. but after considering, i go for 900 as:
1.Ā  weight issue... i'm a girl and +300gm means a lot to me..
2.Ā  bluetooth, we can have 1 small additional small device anytime.
3. atom processor... for normal online and some documentation, i dun think it's means a lot to me.

for those who need mobile one, go for 900 is better because it's smaller and lighter..
*
yeah...same here. hehe

actually, by the time i add in all my barang2, you feel the weight on the bag already. tho still not 1/2 as bad as lugging around a 13" Macbook lah.

for BT...can be a later addition to take up 1 of the 3 USB ports (i seriously don't use until all 3 so far...at most 2/3). i quite like the size of the Logitech VX Nano mouse punye connector. but i think that's like a proprietary wireless connection thing? cos doesn't seem to be any indication that it's a BT mouse. + i already have a BT mouse...

& honestly lah, imo, the bigger keyboard is cos of the ang mohs...most of the reviewers from Europe/US all give the same feedback still about 900/901 : screen improved, but keyboard still too small/cramped for them.

The Linux in the Eee is not like XP P&P, so can we just plug in the things you mentioned and they work? My Lantech BT, extra webcam, GPS, phones not recognized.

Thumb drives, SDs and external SATA all OK so far.

ermmm....i'm not sure about Linux. i spent like 15mins on Xandros & decided to just wipe it out in favour of Win XP. so far no probs with all 3 USB ports.

Bro...is your 901 wide screen ?
Cause it doesn't looks like wide screen from your picture
*
i don't think 901 is a widescreen lappy. just that the resolution is 1024x600.

The 901 has 30GB? Are you sure? SSD?
*
cannot be...901 hard disk space is same as 900. max is 20GB (Linux version) & Win XP Home version has 12GB. unless someone has gone & swopped out one of the 2 SSDs for a higher capacity SSD...which is not likely.

Let me clarify,

There is no 910 nor is there any 901 with 30GB SSD or HDD. Currently the 901 only comes in 2 flavours which is 901 XP Home with 12GB SSD and the 901 Linux with 20GB SSD. Both split to 4GB / 8GB SSD or 4GB / 16GB SSD.

eh...malu! that's a typo there...i meant to say 901. blush.gif
