is there a possibility for 701 to drop price till RM800?
then, when is the olpc era? haha
*
EeePC 701's selling for S$398 in S'pore now... clearing stock.
I think tourists can save a further 7% off that price by claiming back GST.

i think the promotion price is in the pc show which is until yesterday(sunday) only..
*
I don't know when this 'promotion' will end but it's definitely not restricted to the PC Show.
I just walked past some stores in Funan and they had advertisements for that S$398 price.

Good comparison, but is the new atom processor too bad to replace a normal desktop? Is it to slow to perform?

B1286TU is good in features but the weight 1.9kg is quite bulky......for traveller.....

Anyway, good point of view
*
I think from some benchmarking done on the Atom vs the Celeron M's in the current Eee's, the Atom doesn't seem to deliver as much as anticipated from the numbers and conclusions other people had.

Sorry, I can't remember exactly were is the link but a good start would be the eeeuser forum. I think the S'porean VR-Zone EeePC forum also had a thread on the Atom's performance.

1.9kg already considered good leh.
My last work laptop is like 3kg, and I find the 2kg of my TX2000 is pretty manageable.

Don't forget to factor in the weight of additional batteries if you are the frequent traveller / 'road warrior' type.

For all you know, the whole UMPC craze might just collapse, as mainstream laptops get more budget-friendly, lighter, and smaller, and the UMPC's get more expensive, heavy, larger.
10 bucks says they'll converge at 10" screen size.

I disagree... the new trend is UMPC - the lighter version of the already light version of laptops.

I can already imagine a future of UMPCs...

However its up to the consumer whether he/she can make do with the features present in a UMPC. However, in terms of size/portability, UMPC is the way to go !
*
I disagree. The future trend is brain-implanted CPU.

As you said, the future is to be imagined.

Let's wait and see.

does anyone know where to get 6600mAH battery for eee PC 701?
I want to get one ... if the price is good...
*
Whatever you do, don't buy from seller 'Lycfeng' on Ebay.
That b**** f***ing cheated me. RMA 2 months already no response.

That being said, even in S'pore, there are only a few shops that sell Eee extension batteries (6600 and 10400mAh) batteries and I noticed that most on VR-Zone eventually bought through Mass Orders or directly through Ebay.

Here's a link to one such S'pore shop. Knew them from an IT expo:
http://www.innovative.com.sg/battery/produ...roducts_id=5126

Looks familiar?

anyone want to trade their eeepc with my vaio SZ? icon_rolleyes.gif

I have a poor confidence on Sony stuff after that episode in the past when their batteries were exploding all over the place.
So I have valuate your Viao SZ as equal to a lowly EeePC 701.

*
There's VLC (www.videolan.org) player for Linux... runs on my 701 EeePC.
It's one of the best multi-format-compatible freeware players.

If only they had a tablet-pc version of the Eee...
Is any of the 90x and 1000 series Eee's with touchscreens?

nope but that are ones where people modded the touchscreen on but no tablets
*
sad.gif

Disappointed... it's probably something easy to design in and manufacture (hence the easy availability of the touchscreen conversion kits online) by Asus, but probably it doesn't make business sense. I am tengah syiok with my HP TX2000 tablet PC but at 2kg and 12.1" is still abit bulky to be really mobile. But the form factor when folded rivals an opened EeePC... now imagine if the Eee can also be folded and be a tablet...

Actually you can try the Kohjinsha... new brand in town... Tablet n can b folded... looks really cool rclxms.gif I had one of them already... not bad.
If you compare wit the Eee PC.. this is much worth it...bigger storage... thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
Yeah, the Kojinsha has all of those features... but I'm thinking of something around 9" screen and has a beefy CPU too... OK, plus I have an irrational preference for Asus stuff.

you can consider kohjinsha or fujitsu U1010 icon_rolleyes.gif

Does Kojinsha or Fujitsu or anybody else have a 10" touchscreen tablet UMPC that's about 1kg and have 4 hours battery life?
Don't think so, but that's my ideal UMPC if it ever comes out...

battery usage for eeepc900 is not bad also.. around 3-4 hours with light usage. 5800mAH
*
Haiya, the EeePC 701 with the 5200mAh battery also can reach 3.5 hours like that lah.
My 701 can already clock 3 hours with the 4800mAh battery, with screen brightness 10%, no WiFi, playing MP3 with earphones, reading e-books.

I only see a screen with the Apple logo. Could be just a picture. Doesn't prove that Mac OS is installed on that EeePC.

901 is RM1699, 1000H is rm1999. Store is EVERNEW..they are having a booth at the Groiund Floor..
*
As a comparison, the 901 is S$798, 1000 is S$888 in Singapore (prices inclusive of 7% GST refundable to tourists; advertised in Challenger IT chain store).

Added on July 17, 2008, 11:47 pmAcer Aspire One is S$699. With the Atom CPU, I think it doesn't give any reason for the HP Mininote (S$888-999) with the VIA CPU to exist...
