Mini Tips
1. All local Y480/Y580 (not sure for Y400/Y500) sets comes with 2 year warranty. The steps to register the warranty as follows: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 2. Currently, Microsoft is offering cheap Windows 8 Upgrade for Windows 7 owner for only RM50. More info -> https://windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-MY/Home/ProgramInfo 3. It is recommended to make factory default disc after you bought your laptop. Go to OneKey Recovery and choose Create Recovery Disc. Then select Factory default recovery disc. It should take about 4 blank DVD for this purpose. 4. It is also recommended to change to SSD for major speed improvement. Many opt to use SSD+HDD combo by replacing HDD with SSD while putting the original HDD at ODD spot with caddy. 5. There are some pre-installed softwares that come with laptop that are safe to be uninstalled. But, make sure don't uninstall important ones such as Energy Management, OneKey etc.. Congratulations for the new thread!!!
been waiting for quite some time for you guys to open up new threads before joining in... Been owning Y580 for quite some time already and all I can say is I'm impressed with the value vs performance of this laptop... Coming from desktop gaming, I'm pretty much satisfied with this laptop.. I'm still curious though on few things... one thing is extra cooling. Of course by default this laptop is not that hot (though I'm pretty nervous when I run it first time because I'm used to having 38'C CPU idling on my desktop) but any good extra cooler suggestion? I'm on Targus Chillmat at the moment and I dont really notice much improvement in cooling actually... Another thing is, we all know that gtx660m is capable of running 3d vision, but I wonder if anybody has tried that? |

BTW for who wanna play their Far Cry 3 in all high(custom select, not all extra or ultra, these two out of question

Hi, my brother just bought the Y580 at the PC fair just now, and after we installed most of the updates only we noticed something wrong.
The USB 2.0 port at the right side doesn't work. It doesn't detect anything plugged in, mouse or flash drive, but when plug in a external hard drive, it powers up the ext hard drive. Anybody kena this problem before ah? I trying to see if got driver can help or not =.=. Btw, the screen damn nice. And i'm using it to type this, not bad the feeling and layout. Later only test games. |

My Y580 is running slower when not charging. Like when im not charging the game will feel more laggy than when i'm charging. Anyone having this problem ? Windows 8 . I think the lenovo battery saver is the cause. any advise ? Thanks |

Our battery cannot give such like huge output power like power adapter |

Guys, I am getting nvidia display not found on this laptop after playing 3d fps games. Until now I cannot seem to get the nvidia display to work. Already installed and reinstalled drivers. Anyone having the same problem?

nope, using the original installed driver. The device manager shows the display card but with error CODE 43.

So, I went and changed a new one, and now trying it out.

I check the review. Those heavy games can run under ultra setting. ( like battlefield 3, crysis ). For those Y580 users, I wanna ask, is it really playable when the fps is around 30+? I always prefer a single card GPU over a dual card GPU (CFX/SLI)...cause Dual card GPU tend to hv incompatible issue for lots of games...
and rating between GT with GTX is alot different...cannot compare with GT650M and GTX660M, even GT650M SLI, some performance for certain game won't be there... Glad that I got my Y580, happy user till now...not to say, the 1st user here with SSD upgrade |

Well single GT650M GDDR5 and single GTX660M not so much different and rating between GT with GTX is alot different...cannot compare with GT650M and GTX660M, even GT650M SLI, some performance for certain game won't be there... Glad that I got my Y580, happy user till now...not to say, the 1st user here with SSD upgrade Only 100MHz different well..... lol |

hi folks, have a question about our Y480 power adapter:
I have an old HP lappy with a power adapter of 75W, i have tried it on my y480 and it works, only thing is that it is a bit lower than the original one. Since i normally use my lappy in 2 places: home, and my lab, so i plan to leave the orig adapter in one place and use the HP 75watter in another. I'd like to know: is using an adapter with lower power harm the battery and the lappy? FYI, i'm not gaming and usually my lappy is not run at half the capacity. Really wish to hear from u guys soon. |

OK any1 can tell me how to check my s/n of my laptop? i register it wit the s/n on the box yesterday and i dint recieve any email.Just 15min ago ,a window pop out ask me to register so i register agn and i receive an email dis time

New y580 user reporting in. Got my base FHD Y580 from devour. Upgrade it of course… Now running with 8GB RAM, SSD with secondary HD on the DVD Bay and running Win8. Loving it! Any Win8 users manage to get the onetouch theatre button to work? |

Y500 is better....but if u compare G55 with Y580, 1 is pure gaming rig quality, another is budget gaming quality...so far, Y580 never let me down even once, after i plugged in my SSD in it

1. Y400 is going out soon before 2013? 2. Should I choose Y400 over Y480 for its better cooling system? (it's better right? lol) Basically I'm concerning on the "heat" it gives on long period of using it. Any advice? thx |

switching to SSD is a great idea, cause SSD doesn't produce as much heat as HDD...is like 3X lower heat it generates compare with HDD....
for me, 128GB is more than enough for me...the rest, i will leave it to my USB3.0 external HDD....however, 1 thing i do like about windows 8, it feels tons lighter than windows 7 !!! |

SSD is always best for boot and system drives, not storage...

haizz other thing make me confuse between Y400 and Y580 #_#....worry about heating of 580 but love the full hd of this. also like the weight of 400 but less power than 580 (just try y580 at other shop just idle but at bottom (G + H) its quite warm ) #_# both have almost same price not too big different #_#...any recommend?

finally after 2 months register for warranty i emailed Lenovo about the website still showing 1 year warranty .. I also purchase extended warranty meaning that my total warranty should be 3 years but I realized in the extended card it must be use after 30 days of purchase T___T

I would prefer
CPU:40-50C GPU:50-60C HDD:30-45C for idle/browsing. But for Optimus-enabled notebook. Better turn off nVidia temperature monitoring, because you would just keep the nVidia turning on just for the sake reporting the temp, which waste energy and heat.. |

there's no pure LED display, they are all LCD, just that some use LED as the backlight source. when ppl say LED screen, they mean LCD with LED backlight.

hey guys need to ask which type of HDD caddy is for y580? and i have this problem for my y580 which wen i need to on it after shutting down, it seems like de screen is not reponding. when i press de power button, de backlit will on but the screen is showing nothing

hey guys why i feel that the processor is slow? like my acer laptop with i7-2630 is faster than this i7-3610.
do the battery management make it consume less power? although i am not running on battery currently |

Hi, Any Y500 owner here that already claim the 2 years warranty with lenovo malaysia?
I had an issue dealing with the 2 years warranty, lenovo malaysia said that Y500 didn't bundle with a 2 years warranty. |

I wish the Y580 came with more space to put a second drive, so I can have both a HDD and SSD. Their option of using a small SSD isn't worth it

Need help here. Im using Lenovo Y480. Just got this problem yesterday.
The function keys didnt work like they used to. no on-screen menu appears when i press the function key for camera(f1), resolution(f4) and f5(wireless network), OneKey Theater and OneKey Recovery. And the fant dust extraction in power management also gone!! whats wrong with my laptop?? Added on December 20, 2012, 11:05 amproblem appeared when i woke up from sleep, and left my laptop in sleep mode on battery. and my bakclit keyboard for space bar, only one light coming under it. from the left end. right end no light coming. is this related? how do i fix this? Hmmm... since the SLI is using the ODD slot... i was thinking of using mSATA since il need huge space to install games n etc.
240GB 2.5" SSD seems nice, but way too expensive. So i thought of using mSATA instead and leave the 500GB as game storage. Anyone have tried using mSATA port? any idea of the Win8 score for it. |

Off topic: now I working at one computer shop named Axaxhi, well not a good job....
The sales person there is just for "sell" instead of explain the real function of that thing, and also they are typical "more vRAM=more powerful GPU" salesperson..... == And also the technician there got a bit arrogant, they dunno how to format a 2TB HDD, then I mention the keyword to them(GPT partiotion) and one of them start "beh song"(hokkien, sound like not like) me liao.... I've never benchmark AC3 because somehow Razer GameBooster has problem with the way this game running... but I'm pretty sure it's beyond 30fps, though I think I played at 1600x900 and medium settings (can't exactly remember, haven't been on the game for quite some time already)FarCry 3 and Crysis 2, I've never tried but I would expect no problem for Crysis 2 reaching 60fps though might not be at high settings. 1) Msata I just need to insert into the laptop, instead of replacing the harddisk drive right? 2) If I purchase SSD drive, which means I have to take out the 3.5 harddisk drive right? 3) Msata and 2.5 inches SSD, do both prices make a huge gap? 4) Can we overclock the graphic card? i'm using Y480. just found that, when i press FN + U, I, O, J, K, L, M, >, 7, 8, 9, 0...... it won't have anyhing appear!!!! (it suppose to show me: 4,5,6,1,2,3,0,.,7,8,9,/) when i press FN + ?, :, P, i able to get +-*. why like tat?? what should i check and do??? |

Wanna share some findings i gain today...
LowYat... all the shop dont sell mSATA SSD... *sigh* Spend whole day... and none of them have mSATA SSD... Finaly... decided to get the standard SSD... but most shop out of 120GB... got 60GB and 250GB++ oni... I wanted to get Intel 330 SSD... that one the entire LowYat dont have... *more sigh* Came back empty ended... waste my money for the traveling and parking. If you're really uncomfortable about the heat at palm rest just because you don't like warmed up hand, I would suggest external keyboards... if you're worried it will damage your hardware as time goes, I think nothing to worry much.... |

i was thinking to buy Y500 wihtout the second GPU at this moment but might get the external GPU somewhere in March 2013, so i worry i bought wrongly which cant upgrade in the future. thanks |

Sometimes I turn on my laptop, it went blank screen. Nothing. But you can still access the window button but just can't access those in desktop. What's the issue? Is it my rainmeter affecting it? |

My experience with Optimus has never been good. I heard that it's improved, but I've lost my trust to the technology... Last time, i keep on losing the nVidia GPU and had to restart the laptop to get it back after long idle on intergrated graphics... well, I hate shutting down my device... after I forced it on nVidia, never did lose the GPU again... 2. I run this laptop mostly on AC at home. I keep the battery separately... so, power consumption is not exactly an issue for me... though whenever I use battery sure I will change it back to intergrated... though this all just my personal preference... I heard Optimus is quite good now and latest drivers will not cause you to lose the GPU on long idle anymore now... so you shouldn't have any problem with switching... I finally ordered Y580 and will arrived on Wednesday, at a cost of RM2799. It comes with Windows 8 Business Edition which I never thought of having this OS at all.
I end up didn't purchase the SSD because i feel a big hole in my wallet =_=. But I do get free wireless keyboard and mouse from Logitech which is not a bad call after all. Reason I decide to get Y580 1) Cheapest laptop with 660M graphic card, no doubt about it. 2) 3rd Generation Core I7 which no doubt make my photo editing even faster. I forgot to upgrade my RAM..... Maybe purchase it during collect my laptop. |

I run 3D Mark 11 yesterday on Y500, with all hardware and drivers in stock. I got P3694 score.
Il try to run again with upgraded parts and updated drivers. Lets hope for a better score. Note: Nvidia 310 driver has issue on Brightness control for many laptops, i contacted Nvidia and they told they wil be a new driver 313.XX coming out this January, so anyone with 306 driver can wait for this new one. It supposed to fix the brightness issue and improve the performance as well. Ordered the laptop 1st and then SSD but end up with the SSD arriving 1st...
Just do some testing in case i got any DOA item...

den i install win8 pro using the upgrade on the msata.. how should i do it?.. the win8 pro update can just buy the key n dl the installer first?.. or i should install win7 on the msata 1st then only upgrade from there?.. |
