I see... is there any software that i can use to check whether the mSATA port available/usable in my Y500? and the types (Sata2/3).
*
There is a mSATA port in Y500 -> http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2758194-1-1.html
But no one mentioned that the mSATA is SATA 2 or 3...

Off topic: now I working at one computer shop named Axaxhi, well not a good job....  sweat.gif
The sales person there is just for "sell" instead of explain the real function of that thing, and also they are typical "more vRAM=more powerful GPU" salesperson..... ==
And also the technician there got a bit arrogant, they dunno how to format a 2TB HDD, then I mention the keyword to them(GPT partiotion) and one of them start "beh song"(hokkien, sound like not like) me liao.... rclxub.gif

Haha, the usual politics you will face in every work field... Some people just work for the money without any interest or passion or even feeling responsible for it, while sometimes you're just trying to help with the problem, they see you as trying to show off... doh.gif Just treat this as a mental training for you, this would be very beneficial for you in future and all this experience will help you to come out with counter-measure against their funny intention... thumbup.gif

No matter what, as long as you working with humans, you might/will meet with a lot of "Small people" trying to pull your leg... that's the sad truth in real life, the only difference is that how you treat people... icon_rolleyes.gif Anyway, how much you get for your SSD? New or second hand? Heard that Intel even came up with 60GB for their 520 series...

Question
if my laptop was US set, can i claim warranty here and upgrade the warranty to 3 years ??
*
If international warranty then should be okay but for the warranty extension I don't think you cannot do it locally. Alternatively, you can extend the warranty online via the Lenovo US webpage...

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Dec 23 2012, 06:36 PM)
I have checked the review of Y580. I wanna asked.

1) Msata I just need to insert into the laptop, instead of replacing the harddisk drive right?
2) If I purchase SSD drive, which means I have to take out the 3.5 harddisk drive right?
3) Msata and 2.5 inches SSD, do both prices make a huge gap?
4) Can we overclock the graphic card?
*
1. Correct.
2. Correct. As the port for the original HDD is SATA3, you need to put your SSD there so that you can utilize the max performance, while moving your HDD to the ODD which is only SATA2 but it's more than enough to sustain the performance of an ordinary HDD.
3. Normally yes for Malaysian market pricing, but you can get equal value of mSATA unit for the equal capacity of a 2.5" SSD at Newegg. But do note that the mSATA for Y580 is only supported until SATA2 speed so this might be a bottleneck for the new SATA3 mSATA model.
4. Yes, just go Google and you can come up with a lot of stuff for that.

2) O.... Y580 also has the ODD to insert the HDD in order to sacrifice the DVD writer??? So meaning to have its performance at its best, just change HDD to SSD and place HDD to ODD, am I correct?

3) Wow this one I really don't know.

4) Actually have you tried to OC it? Just now I went shopping centre and took a look at the Y580, to be frankly, the palm rest did feel some heat even without playing games compare with other lappies. I'm wondering what is the temperature if playing the game in full performance.
*
2. Correct
3. Yup... beware of bottleneck.
4.Nope, actually i haven't own this model yet, ordered but not yet... tongue.gif
Logically, as you said it's already warm under normal operation, for sure it will be even warmer if you OCed it. As for how high will the temperature shoots, you have to go Google or ask around see if any of the owners here did actually OCed their unit... I believe without OC i read highest temperature for GPU is around 90?

Wanna share some findings i gain today...

LowYat... all the shop dont sell mSATA SSD... *sigh*

Spend whole day... and none of them have mSATA SSD...

Finaly... decided to get the standard SSD... but most shop out of 120GB... got 60GB and 250GB++ oni...

I wanted to get Intel 330 SSD... that one the entire LowYat dont have... *more sigh*

Came back empty ended... waste my money for the traveling and parking.

*

Ordered the laptop 1st and then SSD but end up with the SSD arriving 1st... doh.gif

Just do some testing in case i got any DOA item... cry.gif

Seems that the performance got capped by the SATA2 port that I'm using, will have to wait till my Y580 comes then only can test for the true performance... brows.gif
