yeah the best thing is turn it on and see it listed properly, also check the ram amount and graphics card, since it is powered on already. can't trust malaysian sellers too much.

yours is exactly like mine (y480, free dos, i installed my own win7 ult. ver.), but all my usb ports are working well.

hi folks, have a question about our Y480 power adapter:

I have an old HP lappy with a power adapter of 75W, i have tried it on my y480 and it works, only thing is that it is a bit lower than the original one. Since i normally use my lappy in 2 places: home, and my lab, so i plan to leave the orig adapter in one place and use the HP 75watter in another.

I'd like to know: is using an adapter with lower power harm the battery and the lappy? FYI, i'm not gaming and usually my lappy is not run at half the capacity.

Added on December 10, 2012, 9:30 pmthe s/n should also be printed at the bottom of your lappy, just turn it over and see. also, when you buy the lappy, in the box there should have 2 pieces of paper, one is the invoice and the other one is the list of the components, in one of them should have printed your s/n too. pls keep both papers, they might be needed in future.

what you mean is there could be 3 possible outcomes right? and, 3.95A is just enuf to either

a) charge the battery (but not operating it), or
b) operate the lappy (but not charging it)

please correct me if i'm wrong.

actually i have been using the 75watter for quite abt 2 weeks, and sometimes charging it sometimes not (i set the charging to stop at 60%), didn't know that it has such a risk.

well, for me y480 is just nice as it is light enuf to carry everyday, and when i'm home or in the lab i connect it to external monitors, so the screen size is not an issue at all.

an important questions:

are y400 & y500 given 2 years warranty too?

ah no wonder, your room temp is at least 8C higher than mine, and in the afternoon it'll be hitting 32C.

i'm not using a/c, only use ceiling fan, with no cooling pad, now just running firefox, cpu-z, and foobar2000, and my temp now is:

cpu = 58
gpu = 48
hdd = 39 (moved to odd bay)

there's no pure LED display, they are all LCD, just that some use LED as the backlight source. when ppl say LED screen, they mean LCD with LED backlight.

yeah you are right. dun listen to those sale boys b*llsh*ng, they don't know a thing if they r trying to tell you LED mon is not LCD mon. but then again, almost all manufacturers are now making LCD with LED backlights, only older ones or 2nd hand units still can find LCD with CCFL backlight, so this knowledge is not very important now. anyway, for more info:

ok, i understand your feeling. but also know that Lowyat has many floors and shops, while some are bad, i found quite a lot of knowlegable sales people there that are willing to explain things to me, even during saturday/sunday. one of these is PC Zone. You can also try those big stores like ViewNet, where they have big shop floor and they hire enough sale people, and they are quite ok i found, but you'd better have some knowledge of things you want, and always don't trust 100% to the first person's answers, compare a few different shop's offers, and you'll be fine. one disadvantage of lowyat is the traffic and parking fees, so if i can find the same thing in The Mines that's nearer to me, I'll go there, even if the thing is slightly more expensive.
