love the battery as well, as big as 1400mah, the HD2 only 1230mah.
with the smaller screen and using amoled, the battery life should good.
should be almost as good as the omnia 2.

I think HD2's screen is overkill, try fitting that into a pair of jeans.

i doubt so, just ppl wishing that hd2 would run android.

hd2 android rumour was called htc dragon.
then become htc passion which is tied to one US mobile network (verizon).
now rumour say htc passion screen is 3.5" only.

here's a bigger and clearer pictah

Damn..I dont want to sell my Hero..but this phone does have attitude!

Battery 1400 mAH is indeed going to be too small for the snapdragon, but you guys will be surprised wink.gif I can already predict how they will setup the kernel for this one. I'm turning into a kernel CPU freak nowadays..LOL..

From mobile review,

"The crucial point, which will play not last role in sales Of bravo - difference in the cost of this apparatus with HTC HD2. Both flag officers, similar according to the characteristics; however, HD2 works under OS Windows Of mobile, which indicates addition to the cost of license WM, there are no such deductions for Bravo, and it must have lower price list, possibly, to 20-30 US dollars, and can also on 100. if the company succeed in deriving Bravo on the price lower than HD2, for the platform this WM there will be serious impact. Otherwise we obtain simply very attractive technically flag officer to Android, I think, it will be pleased to those users, which completely arranges the functionality of system and is required as powerful as possible device on it"

hmmmm... interesting...
cheaper and better then HD2....
more pocketable, 720p video recording, bigger battery, AMOLED (even better for the battery) and possibility of multitouch gaming and typing

we're gonna see full review and hands ons very soon.
america will get it in january 2010, while europe in April.

QUOTE
If you were wondering about the difference between the Bravo and the recently leaked Passion, there is none other than the branding apparently. We're also hearing that the above handset will be available in the US in January, a cool three months ahead of the expected European release.

thanks for the reply billy.
I was also thinking it has the same h/w as N1.
Still wondering why are they slapping itself in their own face, releasing the same h/w spec phone.

N1 is a google brand phone with android market and WITHOUT HTC stuff like HTC Sense & etc.

Bravo is N1 with HTC stuff like HTC Sense but without android market in some country like Malaysia.

N1 not available in some country because of android market!

Make sense???

Same with me, dude. I haven't been able to find an impressive HTC Android phone to make me switch yet. Although HTC Hero was good when it came out, but when then HD2 specs with Snapdragon beats it, so no Android for now... wait for Bravo! Hehehe.

One thing that captured me on this phone so far is the optical scroller..not sure how sensitive it will be, but it sure is a great addition..HTC better wait on this one..if its released around with nexus one global launching, i think N1 will own over this though..particularly because of internal specs and looks my guess is..

Whats the difference actually?

I watched some video regarding nexus one but not quite like the interface, I prefer the htc sense in hero more though tongue.gif

Here's a quick comparison between these 2 phones, specs wise:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPho...7&idPhone1=3069

As we can see there are quite a number of differences between them for example OS, dimensions, video recording.

For me N1 and this Desire dont defer much in spec. Only the size and HTC sense UI. But i dont worry much for Sense UI since Xda dev for sure will port this sense UI to N1.

But for me,it's either u wait for this or get N1 now and the price might be main factor whether to choose N1 or desire

the optical tracking devices really looks cool.
but reading from the web it seems not so precise in controlling.

Added on February 17, 2010, 2:30 pmwhich design looks better for you guys?
Desire or N1?
if they are having white casing will surely attract me.

Desire listed for €419 at Amazon's German portal !!!

so we can expect 2.2k - 2.4k here. Hopefully SIS wont jack up the price though

this is higher specs than N1 then but can be available via retail
That means it will be pricier, and SiS is known to always sell their stuff really really expensive during its launch period

576mb of RAM! wow~

1 question, will a device with higher RAM but lower processor clock speed works faster than a device with lower RAM but higher processor clock speed?

Wonder if we can get Desire in March...........

"
HTC Desire, Legend and HD Mini – three handsets which wowed the crowds at this week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – have been given UK release dates and pricing, pointing to a spring launch for the trio.

Both the HTC Desire and Legendcome packing Android 2.1 and are already destined to be contenders for the best phones of the year.

The HTC HD Mini is a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 phone which, as its name suggests, is a smaller version of the HD2 and comes brandishing a 5MP camera and Sense UI overlay.

Price details

EXpansys has spilled details of UK release date and UK pricing of all three phones, with the HTC Desire the most expensive handset at £449.99.

The HTC Legend is in second place, costing £399.99, followed closely by the HTC HD Mini at £349.99. All HTC handsets have a 12 April UK release date.

If you don't fancy shelling out all that cash, then T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and O2 have announced they will be stocking one or more of the phones.

T-Mobile actually pips eXpansys' 12 April release date on the HTC Desire by two weeks, offering the handset from 26 March.

Go to www.expansys.com for more details.

to me, Desire is more like a modified N1 but with a bigger RAM. However, N1 is Teflon coated whilst Desire comes with the vanilla Black color. cry.gif cry.gif Anyway, I'm eyeing this Desire. drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

Just when I'm settled on N1... Might choose this if the price is close to the N1 as it features the extra 64 MB RAM and Sense UI as its default ROM.

No there will not be any video calls support. That is because it is not the prerequisite feature in Android platform.

Actually the Desire is the ultimate phone for me if not for that chin and ugly buttons. The speaker grill is also a little awkward. They did so well for Nexus One, its hard to imagine why they can't repeat the same success for the Desire.

As far as I know, none. Most of the latest platform (eg Android, iPhone, WebOS) do not have front facing camera. Not sure why.

I think it should be cheaper. Its not like a WM phone where the OS costs money. I understand Sense UI requires development work but still the OS should technically be free. So it should be slightly cheaper.

if SE's X10 is priced about RM2600, then I guess HTC Desire should be priced at most 20% more than this only, or at the same price. i'm drooling now.

In my opinion, the Legend is supposed to replace the Hero while introducing Desire to be the new high end Android device. HTC currently runs two family of products: WM and Android. It will have a high end model on each family line. On the WM side, we have HD2 so it is obvious that Desire will be high end on the Android family line. If we already have a mid-model SKU like the Hero and Legend is already replacing it and the debut price was around RM2.2k above (retail), I guess Desire would hit the RM2.6k above mark (retail).

By the way, HD2 and Desire most likely shares the same hardware platform (same processor, same amount of memory). Only the software side is different. And that different is cost lies in the software development (both have Sense UI) and OS license which technically is free.

worth the money, even if it costs about 2.8k~
well let's not compare with Nexus One, previously Hero's price was 2.3k, and we have almost double the spec here without double the price.
even so, the legend is coming, and expected to be reasonably priced XD

That lawsuit is gonna take months before a ruling is in place. We're expecting HTC to counter sue and that alone is gonna take weeks. No trial dates has been set yet. So I'm not worried.

What is the difference between this and Nexus One apart from the looks ?
At the moment, the hardware specs seems almost the same (main features like AMOLED and 1GHz processor)

Considering that they'll sell HTC Legend first (since the announcement in Singapore) sometime in the beginning of April which is next week or so.

So my guess is HTC Desire will come only beginning of May at the earliest here. I don't think HTC wants to release them so close together.

Anybody got extra connections from SIS to confirm or deny?

Yes, it uses a 1Ghz snapdragon while legend is only 600Mhz something slower than it.
And also the screen size of desire is also bigger.

I was in KL today and I asked about the launch of Desire. The person in charge told me that it would be available mid April, which I really doubt =7

desire's price should be lower than nexus. if they priced it higher, they are just profiteering ... then we must do the sane thing ... DON'T BUY!!!

im eyeing the desire too, but if they are priced illogically, i will get the n1. or maybe delay purchase till launch of galaxy s .. hehehehe

N1 is available from UOB Bank's CC holder at 215.67 a month for 12 months (interest free)...still expensive

Just 'reroute' your browser to singapore and then buy online from google website..send to your singapore'fren and then ask then to bring back whenever they can..

all in all, about rm19xx..including DHL fee

desire & nexus are more or less the same phone.

desire does not have the noise cancelling mikes & triband; nexus has, thus the expected lower pricing

desire is reported to have more rams than the nexus, 576mb vs 512mb

desire is also reported to come with a bigger 8gb microSD card in the box, nexus is 4gb

getting either one shud not make much of a difference. nexus can run sense and desire can run native android live windows.

if the pricing of desire is reasonable, it is my opinion that it is better to buy the desire as u will get the local oem warranty & support. nexus is not officially launched in msia.

if desire is priced skyhigh, then get the nexus. if u can wait, let samsung launched its galaxy s, the prices are expected to be more stable by then.

go to xda forum and see the problem they are facing with the desire.. like the 3G issues, amoled screen.. all the same like nexus.

In Malaysia, HTC is represented by SiS for distribution and warranty services. SiS would get HTC to support them and only endorse locally distributed sets. Unless you can provide proof of travel documentation that you're not local.

Only HTC Msia at Plaza Berjaya Jln Imbi ( NOT SIS) will process any claims - you have to pay a service fee upfront first ( I think is RM 80) . First they will check whether your set is registered by the serial number - so I suggest you registered your set online first after purchased. You have to root your set and have it market enabled. All instructions clearly shown in this Android forum here

There are pros and cons and I'd say there is no better set . It boils down to your preference :

1. htc Desire comes with builtin htc Sense but you can similarly have this in Nexus One ( after root and injstall the Desire mod ) - well some prefer Nexus as you can have both UI available. I believe the guys at Modaco will also be working on Nexus UI for the Desire ( not available now , perhaps in the coming months )
2. Physical hard keys on Desire vs the tactile soft key on Nexus
3. Higher memory in Desire ?? - if this is important to you. But web reviews show this is not a major "attractive" factor
4. Build quality and looks ??? Anyway both manufactured by HTC
5. Voice cancelling features in Nexus vs none in htc - important for you ??
6. Pricing - if you are on a tight budget. Now nobody really knows whether the Desire is cheaper ; my guess should be similar to Nexus
7. Warranty - Desire with local htc/SIS support vs Nexus ( more hassle as best is to take it down to Spore though I believe htc KL will entertain )

I was reading up on this a few days ago and from what I understand, there are 2 issues with bringing in Mobile Phones into MY due to it being a controlled item. I have no idea why it is a controlled item, but nevermind that.

Basically, you first need to get the AP for non-business which will cost you RM 200 and some form filling. This will allow you to bring in up to a maximum of 3 items. Then, the tax is 10% of the declared price, which in this case, should be ~RM 176 (assuming the AUD conversion to RM is ~1,760).

So all in all, the govt will take ~RM 400 if you purchase and bring in this phone, and will amount to slightly less than RM 2,100.

Bear in mind, I have not gone through this process yet so take what I've said with a pinch of salt. It's just what I've gathered from reading similar cases on overseas mailed ebay items.

Those of you that have ordered from clove, share with us your experience when you get the phone maybe? smile.gif

1. Winmo's license fee aren't that expensive.
2. Android is harder to develop means there are more work to be done with it, therefore the R&D is passed to you.

Fantastic news! I believe AP warranty on applicable by going through their shop and not through HTC Malaysia. Correct me if I am wrong.

i think you're right, still think the shop would charge us.
even if it is free service they might still charge for anything that need to be replaced.

anyway, i really don't think it's worth to buy an AP set which priced 2k & above.
spend a little bit more, & you'll have a peace mind..

only my opinions rclxms.gif

AP sets you sent it back to the shop where you buy it. Normally these sellers will return the problem set to their respective supplier. For htc products, my seller told me if his supplier unable to rectify the problem , it will then be sent over to SIS.

i have a experience with my one of previous htc phone ( AP set ). The motherboard was replace FOC and I got it back 10 days after I return the set. I'd consider this very good service and time frame of repair since motherboard need to replace. And I don't have to pay a single cent for it. So if you want to buy AP buy it from the established shops and not through a 3rd party chap who has no shop or just a small kiosk in some mall. He told me if SIS set, probably I can get it back in 7 days

NO ! - this is what a Android loyalist told me recently. It will only be available if you root it. I believe is same for previous htc HERO /Magic models which is supplied by SIS - can some owners of this confirm this

yeah, reluctance to add a rmm200-300 after spending rm2k or more might proved costly.

yup. rooting will void warranty, regardless AP or Ori..
but there are ways to recover back original ROM if anything happens, before sending it to claim warranty.
last time with my touch pro, i used to back up my original rom before rooting it with cooked rom. when i wanna sell it, i juz recover the original rom back. but remember, it is wise to back up ur original rom before doing anything to the phone...

Nope. Never will. Why? Because its HTC's turf and Desire will take care of it. Both phones are so similar to the core, it'll not make sense.

Heard SiS stock coming in this end of April and pricing is around 2k..
Nexus on the other hand, would be released here officially around July,if i heard correctly..
PDA Expert already have Nexus, priced at 2.6k at their stores..

About Ori Vs AP theory again, been using HTC ori since quite some time.
What I can tell you is, so far, No problem with my ori set even after 2 years..
So, I'll let you people judge XD
Its just extra about 200-300 only..
As someone said here, better get the peace of mind and assurance..

XD
Gonna write 2 HTC later, asking for review sets..
Crossing my fingers then XD

If the Nexus One is coming, it will be under Google's roof. Then again, do we know anything about possible telco associations and contracts? Celcom? They did it for HTC Magic but wasn't received well. Cause Google's N1 directions are both outright sale and telco choices.

July?

Android phone is evolving very fast, when something reach Malaysia, something else is preparing to go to market (LG and Samsung's Snapdragon + Full QWERTY for example).

Its not bad..
I just don't like to see one line when i SMS..
I like to see the whole text like winmo..
Like Android, you can only see 1 line..

But with Milestone, its ok la coz got landscape when you slide out the QWERTY thingy..

desire definitely runs on snapdragon..

desire is cheaper becoz it lacks few hardware i guess.. like the 2nd mic for noise cancellation, also the material is more to plastic and rubberized plastic.. i read somewhere that nexus is more solid and desire does produce click sounds esp at the back cover..

google does almost everything that desire has, except Sense ui, physical button, trackpad and extra ram..

physical button, trackpad, and extra ram is not that costly..

Actually Sense UI is the winner here. Doesn't matter whether it lacks the 2 function. I don't think they are show-stoppers. Sense UI really complements the Android platform. So this is a good thing for us. Cheaper and more important functions/features.

well i myself like sense ui, and that's the reason my nexus now is running the desire rom..

one day, modaco will definitely manage to bring the stable version of desire rom into nexus and if we put side by side nexus one and desire, which one will u choose?

i dunno. for me nexus looks nicer, but still, i already prepare money for desire. haha!

FYI - HTC Legend comes with Android Marketplace already. But only free apps, no paid apps yet. Maybe Google Checkout support not ready for M'sia.

So, I assume HTC Desire will come with the same Android Marketplace as well. So, no need to root your new phone so quickly - unless there's some paid apps you wanna get your hands on.

Samsung Galaxies uses Samsung's own ARM Cortex A8. Actually all we know at the moment is that the application processor is 1GHz. Snapdragon is Qualcomm and I think there's a very slim chance Samsung would use another company's core.

Samsung Moment 2 Picture Leaks

While original Samsung Moment owners on Sprint still await an upgrade from their Android 1.5 to something deuce or above, we’re learning (and seeing) that the manufacturer/carrier duo are working on the sequel – the Samsung Moment 2 – which will rock Android 2.1 out of the box. Here is a rumored/leaked picture of the device from WeRandroid:

Even though it may not be locked, you will need a community to support the phone. Judging by Samsung's popularity, the community is almost non-existent. If you look at custom ROM communities like XDA-Developers and HTCpedia... they only support HTC devices. Droid also have custom ROM because there are many users using it in US so they can afford to have a community to drive this kind of initiative.

Sense UI is more of an upgrade to Touch Flo 3D. In fact, Touch Flo 3D is no longer present on all 2009/2010 HTC models. Sense UI brings additional integration and feature on top of Touch Flo for example:

- Tighter UI shell integration on top of OS
- Tighter integration of social networking application on OS
- Live streaming of information from internet to support social networking
- Improved tabs navigation

I believe there's much more Sense UI brings.

There are a few negative feedbacks on the battery life on the Desire. Jon from HTC Desire Fanatics has posted a minor battery live test:

QUOTE
Today I’ve decided to put my HTC Desire through its paces and leave my charger at home to see how the battery does.

I feel rather vulnerable without a charger but I can’t always carry one around with me so it’ll be a good test.

Today I have the following settings:

Fully charged at 9am.
Screen: Medium brightness
WiFi: ON
Syncing: ON
Bluetooth: OFF
GPS: OFF
FriendStream: ON

So currently my phone has a connection to my WiFi network and can sync as and when required.  I will update this post throughout the day with the battery level for those who are sad enough to care.

11:00 87% remaining – Listened to the radio on the walk into work. I’ve made a few phone calls, sent some tweets and taken a few photos (whilst it’s sunny). Still plenty of juice left before I am reunited with the safety that is my phone charger.

13:00 80% remaining, sent loads more texts and had a couple of calls, checked and read e-mails. Still plenty left to get me through the day.

14:00 75% left. Have only used the phone to send about 10 text messages and read new e-mails. Also, I have just started downloading the Guitar Hero 5 Demo (although the Market seems to be down)
Seems not that bad after all. Just don't push it by switching everything ON.

I prefer the form factor of Nexus One and also the support that the community is giving it. But in Malaysia, the price is higher and harder to get repair/warranty when needed (looking at the list of problems Nexus One has, its scary), so my choice is still Desire.

But HTC Smart is not a smartphone. It's called a feature phone, running on Brew (Qualcomm)'s OS. In fact, some people are calling it "dump"phone running HTC Sense.
Nevertheless, I don't think they'll start selling Desire so soon after Legend just launch, to give time for the sales to go up first. I'm guessing the Desire will be sold end of the month of April or early May. Earliest also mid this month. But not as late as July, for sure.

It depends on how you declare the goods. Most online shopping sites allow you to specify special requests. This is where you tell them to declare the goods as a 'gift'. SIRIM and the shipping company likes to lookout for parcels that is declared as 'Communication Device'. So if you declare it as a gift, it'll go undetected. But shipping company sometimes do random picks this is where you need to count on your luck.

At most you need to go SIRIM to purchase a personal AP permit. You can do so through an agent or personally. This is where you need to make declaration of the product through specifications, product brochure and some paperwork. After paying for the permit you need to settle the tax by paying the shipping company. The company will then do the rest and ship it to you.

I've heard many many rumors. One numbnut from PDA Expert, Midvalley even told me that it won't be launched until end of the year. I thought I heard wrongly but then... meh.... forget it. Don't know don't simply say mah...

Most indications point at end of this month. We shall see.

Probably not but you will see it when Live Wallpaper is loaded. Everything will slow to a crawl. Milestone is a good example. Technically speaking, in Android you almost never see a low ram issue because it dynamically manages ram usage. But you won't know it when some programs are closed either. So having more RAM will reduce this problem.

People sell RM2080 including 'other handling and administration fees' mah hehehe... If we're in UK, we would have got it too. But we're here in Malaysia, so we need people like Terry to do the rest without hassle on our side.

I got some info regarding Android phones here.... sad.gif is it applied for HTC Desire too ??

1) Hands free dialing and call answering is not supported
2) Bluetooth voice dialing is also not supported
3) Android does not support animated GIF files. It only shows the first frame
4) Android does not officially allow applications to be installed on, nor run from, an SD card.
5) Android calendar is restricted to synchronisation with Google Calendar service
6) Android does not readily support Bluetooth file exchange, video call or native Java ME, as do other mobile operating systems, such as Symbian OS and Windows Mobile, however some of this is still possible: Bluetooth file exchange is possible on rooted devices.[111] Apps like Qik allow live broadcasting (but not receiving) and KnockingLiveVideo for the iPhone is set to make an android appearance.Java ME apps can be converted with a MIDP runner that converts them to android apk's to be installed like normal apps.

i have ordered one from tmobile and awaiting delivery. in the meantime i went to carphone warehouse and played with it. nothing to fault. i have an iphone and have been a fanboi of it. however, the desire's multitouch is very good, changing screens is fast, opening programs are speedy and the keyboard is good as well, well, better than iphone as it is slightly wider

Erm, played with Desire for 20 minutes, i think in terms of sensitivity of the screen and multitouch, iphone might have the edge still..
But Desire done a good job with it already LOL~

Think of it this way, higher speed means less time waiting for things to load, means better battery life tongue.gif

about the multitouch, it is pretty good. accurate enough for normal usage, text input is good as well. definitely, iphone is better, but then by only 5% at most. the speedy proc enables multitasking which is good, load your RSS feeds and weather while u surf the net or reply a text while playing pandora/spotify/lastfm... its seamless though the leap view is kinda slow and not 100% smooth.

but about screen quality, there's none of the boring 16 apps on your homescreen + 4 on the dock. u can customize it.. no matter how u customize the iphone only can see 16 apps that just move around... non functioning i should say.

i have not tried the notifications on the desire (delayed due to lack of stock here in uk) but hopefully, it works better than the in-your-face pop outs (sometimes, i can get 3 pop-ups in 1 go, text, fb and ebay)...

From what I read from androidforums, apparently most of the HTC stock went to telco carriers, that might cause the delays and they didnt expect HTC Desire to be that popular

That link seems to suggest a common limitation to PenTile arrangement for AMOLED displays when paired with ClearPad touch interface.

the HTC reps didn't give a date during yesterday's launch of the legend, smart & HD mini also. For sure it'll come in May, just chill and focus on other devices such as the ipad or MBP. LOL

No worries. Its Android. We will be able to pack in those features via the support of 3rd party communities. And Papago will likely release updates to M6 to support the phone.

But for dedicated travel usages, you better get a cheap PND (portable navigation device). GPS on phone is more for location aware applications and pedestrian navigation in my opinion. And of course, emergency usage.

Its a good phone... accurate gps, nice Layar reality browser, very geeky. haha...
build quality is good, hate the nokia-ish rear cover, prefer legend type, but then, its ok.
notification led is nice
nice sounds, loud speakers
touchscreen accuracy and predictability loses out to iphone
love the back and home button...

"Limited system storage available to the user (you get approx. 120 MB for apps)"

Whoa, so how you experienced Android users cope? I guess other stuffs need space too right ? (like email, sms etc)...... just a few apps and games will fill all the space.

Yeah, I'm feeling the pain too. Damn tired of waiting. Neck also long already. Have been waiting for so many product launches. The 3GS was particularly annoying. Then Desire and I bet.. the next new iPhone will be the same.

I know Terry selling but his stock still dunno when arrive. If he had ready stock this weekend I would've bought......nvm, just have to be patient I suppose. Another option is buy from HK as I have a friend coming from there, for around 2.4K I can get the Desire, spare battery, leather case and 16GB MicroSDHC, but still have to wait till May!

i dun see why is it so not possible.. android is open source and current hardware isnt so expensive any longer.

competitive market will definitely brings price down to drive sales. in anyway, HTC gain the most since both device manufactured by them.

Price breakdwon:

GBP 330 + 34 shipping = GBP 364

Convert to RM = RM 1830

SIRIM = RM215 and tax around RM128.14

Total = RM 2173

Actually not bad if buying from Clove, but the thing is now the volcanic ashes in Iceland causing all flights cease to operate, we wont know when will the package arrive

Bad thing is the warranty is 2 yrs covered by Clove which u have to send it back to UK if something happen to the phone

Right except that there's no competitive pricing in Malaysia biggrin.gif. We know Motorola Milestone is priced around RM2200. The X10 is a long way above RM2600(?). We know HTC Legend is priced at RM1999. We also know HTC Desire is among the most sought after phone for 2010 (at least Q2-Q3). SIS will have to price the Desire to undercut Milestone but without cannibalizing the Legend. Legend cannot reduce price at this moment because of all the price point below for other HTC products.

It simple to say, move and all the price automatically adjusts itself. The problem with new gadgets are it is almost 100% fueled by enthusiasts like us. The first round would be a blood fest because we would all die to get one. We're OK with any price as long as we can get it. As a result, no matter what price they position the Desire.. it is highly likely that it will be successful. Elastic/non-elastic pricing. Doesn't matter how much it is worth underneath that plastic. It sells.

Bottom line, worst case scenario --> same price as Nexus One (RM2400). Best case scenario below or same as Milestone (RM2099 or RM2199). If Legend moves down the pricing (highly unlikely), we're all good.

Apparently quite a long proccess

- If the package goes to POS Malaysia, even with item marked as GIFT. Kastam/POS can open the package.

- If the package contains a phone, you'll get a call & after 1 to 2 days you'll get a letter.

- You are expected to go to SIRIM (Block 9) in Shah Alam to get an AP permit with the letter from POS. You will fill 2 forms and enter market value for the phone. AP permit is RM250 and for personal or sample items only. You can bring up to 3 units and not more.

- You are expected to get the AP no & OGA no from SIRIM. It will be ready in a hour and you leave can call back to get it.

- With this details & the letter proceed to POS KLIA (actually it's next to LCCT)

- Go to the guard post & give your driving license to get a visitor pass

- Go to POS Counter 2 (not Kastam Counter 2) which is on the way to the toilet

- You are asked to proceed to Counter 1 (POS) to give your visitor pass, collect the package, and return to Counter 2 (POS).

- Provide the documents & the details (AP & OGA). Here you have declare the phone value AGAIN. Keep it below RM500 and you only have to pay RM18 for EDI service. More than that you'll have to pay 10% to Kastam. Go to Counter 6 (POS) to make the payment and return to Counter 2 (POS).

- Proceed to Counter 2 (Kastam) and pass the document. The officer will ask you to open the box (usually they have opened the box before & resealed it).

- Proceed to the Counter next to it for final clearance/tax payment and then you have to proceed to Counter 1 (POS) to collect your pass. Done!

Most phones have so so battery performance. The standard seems to be 1 full day of use. The Desire fits into this category. Just make sure you have the micro-USB cable with you and maybe the wall charger. Then you can charge everywhere you go.

I think almost the same. But I do know Desire has a lot of programs pre-installed from the ROM. You will need custom ROM modders to give us a lean ROM biggrin.gif

120MB is not much but considering the apps from Android Market are pretty small, I guess mainstream users should be just fine. It is only a matter of time before Google release some new revisions that enable installation on micro-SD card.

There's one reviewer that seems happy with the battery life http://www.coolsmartphone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=33304 Apparently for him, he managed to get at least 1.5 days with a single charge.

Even iPhone 3GS can last slight over 1 day. If you game a lot and access network data while on the go, it'll be less than 1 day too. Even Milestone have similar battery performance.

If you fetch a lot of data from the network especially those widgets, your battery will go flat at the end of the work day. Try to set a lower frequency like every 2 hours or more. I have an impression that Android's power management can still be improved since it is a young OS. Lots of room for improvements. Plus it has a 14xxmAH battery. My HD2 with 12xxmAH battery, same hardware and larger screen also can withstand 1.5 days. No need to worry lar...

Apparently for android phones such as HTC Desire, the apps can only be installed in their internal memory.

According to gsmarena.com review

"The HTC Desire has 512MB ROM and almost 80% of it is used or reserved for the Android OS. This leaves you with 120MB free space for all your apps and games. As you may know, the Android OS still doesn’t support installation on memory cards or even extended inbuilt storage (such as the 8/16 GB of the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S, which are listed as internal drive). So you have only 120MB to install what you need"

Does it show that it's a downside of Desire?

Anyone encounter any problem regarding no enough space for apps?

yes you can 'unroot' it, by flashing the original ROM into it, and then take it for warranty claim.

Haven't heard of anyone running out of space cause most people I know just root their Droid and save apps on the sd card. Don't worry too much, most apps are not more than 2MB in size. Eventually Google will release a new version of Android which will allow us to save apps to sd card.

the nexus one battery can last 1.5 days or so.

so how's the battery life between the Nexus 1 and the desire?
performance, we can say its the same le.

About battery life... I think it is because the flash support inside browser and also live wallpaper.. with new htc sense. .. even my htc magic with sense rom did run out battery faster than other ROM..
If anyone of u eager to buy desire and choose rooted path.. u do not to worry that much... developer from modaco surely will make custom rom stabilize the battery life... same story goes to htc magic 32a user like me... now I'm using superD ROM with fast speed and great battery life performance... desire have a lot of potential.. so what u need to do is just to patiently wait for those brainstorm-er from modaco to create a great custom Rom...
Based on my experience on rooted path.. I could guarantee my word..

QUOTE(7CY @ Apr 19 2010, 02:57 PM)

*
Thats not the downside of Desire. Its the downside for all Android phones. If you look at Android apps, they aren't really that big. Most of them are less than 1MB with a few going to 5MB or possibly more. When this happen, the developers tend to put the core program onto internal ROM and put the rest into the SD card anyway. No issues. Same goes to navigation programs. Android apps makes use of a common program code pool (called Dalvik or something). So the apps carry the bare minimum codes.

The Samsung Galaxy S and a few upcoming phones will have large internal storage. It doesn't matter because the same limitation applies. The context of this limitation means all programs will have to be installed onto the ROM partition of the device which is 512MB-1GB big. Other storage even though it is internal or a micro-SD card but embedded inside the device makes no difference.

Hope that clears the confusion.

Price breakdwon:

GBP 330 + 34 shipping = GBP 364

Convert to RM = RM 1830

SIRIM = RM215 and tax around RM128.14

Total = RM 2173

Actually not bad if buying from Clove, but the thing is now the volcanic ashes in Iceland causing all flights cease to operate, we wont know when will the package arrive

Bad thing is the warranty is 2 yrs covered by Clove which u have to send it back to UK if something happen to the phone
*
Where can you get Desire for GBP330 ?? The cheapest from a reliable store I can find is from play.com

Those prices that you quote are without VAT, so you will have to add VAT (tax) in the final price.

hmm.. if convert back to msia, plus all tax will be 2100 right?

then why not add another Rm 150 for the warranty? hmmm... tongue.gif

QUOTE(ineser @ Apr 19 2010, 10:45 AM)

Done!

another questions:
1. can we install market enabler on desire/legend so that the paid apps will appear? and
2. which one of these 3 (desire, legend, iphone 3GS) has scratch-resistant screen?
3. which one is worth to buy by looking at the price and what we will get?

1. not at the moment because desire and legend have not been rooted (officially)
2. desire and legend's screen are glass so they are harder to get scratched, however I still suggest you get a screen protector or a casing or whatnot.
3. it's all up to your budget and choices. Desire is not out yet but it'll be a real big hit altho there are a few problems which most people can live with.

Hi guys, i'm hihihehe's friend that he mentioned..
Just got my HTC Desire yesterday...
The screen is really awesome, bright and vibrant...
I'm upgrading from my HTC G1/Dream to Desire.. It's a huge step for me as 1.6 to 2.1 is a big difference.
I'm already used to Android OS so what goes where...
The 1Ghz SnapDragon is really amazing, very very fast compared to my G1's 500+ Mhz only.
the HTC Sense is a thumbs up, the UI is so much nicer than the android default one...
People are claiming the battery sucks, yea, but once you know how to close the unnecessary things then it's good...

OK, Here's some shots to show you. smile.gif
