Hello.

A total noob here.

I'm 173 tall and right now 55 kg (2 months ago around 52). I worked out around 3-5 times a week and sometimes went swimming during weekends. My goal is to gain weight and pack some muscles so that I can have that hollywood actor bodytype. sweat.gif

So I joined the company's gym a few months ago (free gym, free trainer), and I dont keep track of anything. So I think I should open this thread to post my routine and my progress and maybe some advices from sifus here.

As usual, tell your trainer to incorporate more compounds
and dont neglect legs, they're also crucial if you wanna get some decent mass, mana squat???

You are really light. good start by jotting down your training and see your own progression ~

your training seems ok to me, but what JIB-89 says is true, dont neglect your legs...

i think, forget about the 10-20mins jogging. only do like 5mins warm up on thread mill during ur leg days. eat clean, dont avoid fat, u need fat to increase male hormone, hence increase protein synthesis.

As you said, body. Read the definition of your body. What's the body? The body's the entire structure from head, toe, fingers, legs.

I'll say this, If you've an amputee and haven't got legs, then sure, just train your torso. If you've legs, train your legs.

Don't make the novice mistake of leaving out your legs. I know saying this would probably be ignored, but your body works as a whole. Neglecting your legs would hamper your progress.

Added on August 6, 2008, 12:19 amHow exactly do you do these listings? Example, for Flat Bench Press, should I put down the weight of the single round thingy, or should i total two of them or should i total them with the bar as well? I'm kinda noob at this.

Today/Thursday (Leg) the most avoided training before, tomorrow legs must hurt like hell tongue.gif

Recently my trainer are very rajin and helped supporting me. In the past weeks he usually just instructs me on what to do.
He also advices me to lay down the jog to 5 minutes per session instead of 10-20 minutes like before.
And yeah, only today he just realised he forgot to include squats. he said he thought he already included that! sweat.gif

Oh yeah, if the weight at the gym is not broken, I am now 56.5 kg! Its 1.5 kg heavier than last 2 weeks! thumbup.gif

Whats with all the support? If you cant lift it by urself then lower the weight, support should only come on the last few reps
Its actually a bad habit everywhere... i see that among the PTs in my gym, they like going heavy but than they'll get another PT to assist them through the entire set

I dunno. I did use way lower weight, but the trainer wants me to lift heavier, especially those with barbells. Since I seems to lack balance, he come and supports.

That's a VERY nonsensical way of training. Do you ever see weightlifters, powerlifters, ask their partners or coaches to help them along while lifting?

That usually happens with guys who can't have their muscles lift, but their ego lift...

Boy, haven't update this in a while (that's an understatement. LOL). This is my new routine.

Day 1 - Chest + Back
Flat Bench Press
Incline Bench Press
Dumbbell Flyover
Dumbbell Pullover
Barbell Row
Deadlift
Lat Pull Down (front and back)

Day 2 (Shoulder + Triceps)
Behind Neck Press
Machine Shoulder Press
Lateral Raise
Arnold Press (I think that's what it is called...)
Triceps Pull Down
Triceps Kick Back
Dips

Day 3 (Biceps and Legs)
Squat/Leg Press
Leg Extension
Leg Curl
Barbell Curl
Alternate Dumbbell Curl
Cable Hammer Curl

I try to workout everyday, but most of the times I only managed to come every other days. On some days (usually weekends) I do three parts per day.

I am now 62 kg, the heaviest I've been in my life. Here is my latest progress pic:

Bro, is it because you swim a lot. Your chest is nice, as in you got the under chest line (the shadow thingy). I don't know how to describe it.

Would you mind to share with me what is the weight for your chest workout now?

Yeah, I haven't do the squat for a year due to the metal bulging out at the area at the shoulder where we put the bars. Damn uncomfortable during squats.

But now I guess I can start doing it back!

If you want in 3 weeks, you cant eat any carbs. No carbs, try vegetarian food with some chickens and lean protein food with a few of calorie burning cardio activities daily. Then I think possible la.

Senang bro. You can eat, but try to eat in smaller portion, but separate into 5 meals instead of 3. That is to train your metabolism to burn faster I think. Any other sifu can helps explaining? Haha

No matter how you work out if you neglect your diet it wont matter, because as long as the layer of fat is still there, no abs for you.

My current abs workout consist of:

Abs wheel
Crunches
Hanging leg raise
Hanging leg wiper

Anyway, diet is the most important thing. And you'll also benefit from some fat burning exercises such as jogging, swimming and cycling.

Great Progress. Your Legs have caught up after your initial neglect.

Compared to your humble beginnings, you deserve 5 Stars.

Emino hnnnngghh...

By the way, how long did u take from scratch til at least, have a lilttle bit of muscle la. I think my body is almost the same with you, 173, 60kg. But even before buffed up, you looked fit man. I plan to be fit too, but I don't want to over consume the proteins, as I have terrible discipline. I'm scared that once I gain muscle, I will start slacking off and then those muscle become titties again. sad.gif Plus, I'm very lemah liao, cant even push ups til 20, cant even jog more than 5km and have manboobs summore.

How many hours you spent in the gym for one session? And for starters, did u go to the gym every single day?

And can you still run? I got this one friend, also into body building, he's as skinny as me, but he cannot run let alone play futsal. Last raya he play mercun, lari lari tak sampai 5 minit dah penat. I don't want to be like this. How? To be fit and at the same time can do sports as well.

1. About an hour to two per session. Used to go every week days, but now cut to 3 days per week in favor of boxing and capoeira classes.

2. I never actually run. My kardio consists of self defense classes. However you can be fit and able to do sports too. Look at all those athletes or there. They are not exactly skinny runts, right?

3. It took me about a year+ before I have satisfactory results. Then accident/slacking off/Ramadhan always set me back a bit and need to work harder again.

One serving of whey after each workout and a good rest will be enough for me. If I dont have access to my whey at that time (when working out during holidays, as I keep my supplement at office since my main gym is at office), I'll blend 6 half-boiled eggs with milk and drink them.

To achieve that you will need low bodyfat percentage. Below 15% if I'm not mistaken. And for that, you need to burn more calories than the one you put into your body through food. So let say today you ate food worth of 4k calories (easily achievable through 2 complete McD meals), your body will only need/burn around 2k calories for daily functions, so you have to burn at least 2k of calories.

And you cant target fat loss. Which means you cant have any specific area targeted for fat loss. Our body doesnt work that way. You have to lower overall fat percentage. Luckily for us guys usually the stomach area goes first. For girls the body usually goes for boobs, ass and thigh rather than stomach.

What you are now is skinny-fat. You can increase mass and reduce fat at the same time. Just control your diet. Avoid taking carbs and fatty food. Just take some quick carbs preworkout to get energy. But the rest let your body get energy by burning up fat.

If want more strict, stop taking rice. Rise is mostly carbs.

Why reduce carb intake? Because our body burn carb and fat for energy. If you have no more carb to spare, then they will use exclusively fat. That way you can reduce overall fat percentage.

And no, you cannot just target an area where you want the fat to be burned. Our body doesnt work that way. Just have to reduce OEVRALL fat percentage.

You dont really need to replace carbs if you're trying to lose weight, as you are forcing your body to take the energy from fat.

If you are trying to gain, you'll still need some quick carbs which can dissolve quickly, such as fruits, if you're maintaining a very lean diet.

I just use rice, since I dont have to maintain very lean diet thanks to my metabolism.

is there a reason that you're using a ezcurl bar to do your deadlifts?

also i noticed that your not exactly breaking at the hips. from that view, it looks as though your knees travel forward on the eccentric movement of the lift. if you are breaking at the hips properly, your shins should be about perpendicular to the ground. at lockout, i notice that you bend your elbows while performing a shrug. this is not the proper way to execute a deadlift as your arms need to be dead straight throughout the concentric.

i also notice a general instability especially when you were doing your ezcurl bar rows (again, you should opt for a barbell instead) which seems to stem from the shoes you're wearing. i'd recommend something flat like chuck taylor's.

other than that, good progress so far.

Yeah, been using EZ bar because the straight bar has been bad on my wrist previously. But now already changed to conventional barbell.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. thumbup.gif

Naturally getting fat by eating daily food? You'll most likely die by clogged arteries if you keep that up. Why one earth would you want to load yourself with fat? Fat cannot transmute into muscle.

First, you want to gain healthy weight, not fat. And healthy weight is muscle. For muscle you'll need protein. You can get them from supplements, or from chickens, beef, eggs and milk. And protein cannot magically turn into muscle either. When you workout, you purposely tear down and damage your muscle. Therefore when your body goes into repair mode, they will use the protein to repair those muscle by making them bigger and stronger so that you cannot damage them as easily. That is when you switch to heavier weight, so your muscle can be damaged and your body can repair it bigger and stronger each time.

supplements isn't a requirement to build muscle mass, but it sure does help you if you know what you are doing. You just need to workout smart and hard, consume proper food and nutrition and have enough rest. That's the 3 basic principles of bodybuilding.

You're asking the wrong guy. I've been slim my whole life.

Although fat removal is diet and high intensity training such as jogging and swimming. And you can't target a specific area for fat loss.

Yep. With limited funds for supplements,2 broken collar bone and 3 surgeries this is the best I can get. Basically this is what I get after 2 years. I would like to see how you work with those limitations. smile.gif

However, this is what I aim all along after all since I dont really want to change all my clothes or change my eating habit much. Sure if I can get better back, shoulder and arms would be nicer.

Anyway, progress pic for March (using a test cosplay picture):

I dont think I will be a beast if not because of injuries anyway, because like I said earlier, I dont want to sacrifice my eating habit, lifestyle and clothes. Some of my jeans (ep skinny jeans) now are no longer fit since my thigh and calf are slightly bigger now. Clothes dulu saiz S-M now dah jadi fit T, but it still looks good so OK la.

62 kg.

Girls do noticed you better but sadly girls like that arent my cup of tea. I prefer those who like me for who I am, not my body.

Actually yo workout program shud be balance for eg

DAY 1 chest & back
DAY2. Leg .calf & abdomen
DAY3. Bicep &tricep
DAY4. Shoulder & abdomen
DAY5. REST ( eat n sleep)

*if ur doing supersets n gaint sets then can take 3days rest...

For suppliments
Whey protein (optimum nutrition) first thing in da morning & 1hrs before workout n right after workout
Amino acid : first thing in da morning & right after workout
Creatine : before workout ( or can take a pre-workout drink n it contains creatine too)

Currently just the usual gym routine.

First day: Back/Biceps
Second day: Chest/Triceps
Third day: Legs/Shoulder

Workout in the morning.

Every Monday and Thursday my company have PT coming over giving bodyweight/crossfit training. And sometimes on Wednesday or Friday I join the Capoeira class in PJ.

I am pretty adaptable so anything that is free at the moment in the gym I'll use that. Pretty standard workout.

Let say for chest, if the bench is available I'll do bench and lateral bench, then maybe dumbbell flies etc etc.

Same goes for back, biceps, shoulders, legs and triceps.

My routine is not really fixed, just as long as it served the purpose for the body parts.

been hittin the gym for bout 2mths after a break for bout 6mths due to some outstation course.. what i can see so far is..

diet : breakfast oats, lunch regular mamak food with rice, dinner chicken fillet with potato and brocolli.

Arms and chest gettin bigger but tummy fat stil refuse to go. arms growing at a slow progress though. if im to diet, takut my tummy together with muscles will shrink.

Summary: eating healthy really farks up the wallet.
