Hi everybody, starting a SonicGear Fan club for the benefit of those supporting SonicGear or those planning to buy SonicGear speakers.

For a start, to give everybody an idea of how the SonicGear brand comes about.

SonicGear is started by the Leapfroglobal Group. It has been around since 2001 and now has a history of more than 5 years. It started out from a totally new brand in the market to what it is currently.

I won't say its flaming though. The threadstarter obviously just advertising Sonic Gear stuff. Honestly why don't the TS post his personal review on SG speakers? Do check the other SG-related thread at http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/419867; notice the difference? I do respect each and every speaker manufacturer, especially new companies like SG, Edifier, E-view etc; but at least SG fans should post up some reviews and feedbacks.

What's a fanclub without reviews?

I own sonic gear blue thunder 3,and just bought it,i think no speaker can beat it bass for it's price rm199,eventhough my friends suggest me to buy logitech or creative speaker.I onli like this speaker because it have more on bass which techno and trance head will like it.

I think sonic gear speaker is cater to low end speaker,that's good for budget buyer.

Yeah, I support this thread. Although I'm not pro-Sonic Gear, I think this thread will give useful information to would be Sonic Gear buyers. Also I hope we will see more honest comments and constructive criticism because we all know Sonic Gear have lots to catch up with established brands like AL, Edifier, Logitech, etc ... Who knows in the future SG will come up with a model that knock the socks of the competition. It would be good if we hear it first from this thread.

well at 1st i was took on by their val tube speaker thingy which costs around 800+-till i went for a test n was disapointed
next the retro radios looked good pricing was even better but still sound like errr... shall we say not up to the price ?

I hope that sonic gear will come out with nicer speaker in near future to give competition to other brands,beside the sonic gear speaker is not bad.

Who knows sonic gear will become famous brands later?

As far as i'm concerned, they still sound like crap. I know i know their prices are low, but atleast edifier has better speakers to showcase what they are atleast capable of. The only thing Sonicgear has shown me is the ability to create muddy bass, and that's an impression that was born before my days with high end audio, so you can imagine lol.

SonicGear good or bad thats depend on the user!!!

I pretty happy that other competitor very concern about this brand when i was at cebit fair!!!

I have been with Sonic Gear more than 3 years, this brand are growing up and become better( at least when we found out that the speaker got problem, i can sound to factory to tunning or modify it which is other branded speaker supplier cant do it, and just wait for what will coming next from the factory).

i am sure that sonic gear will grow bigger in the international market in this 2 year and produce more good and affordable speaker.

This is just my 2cents on Sonic Gear after i back from international Fair and market feedback.

IMHO, I think SonicGear is in terms of value for money, mainly for budget buyers, more for low-mid range crowds, although they are now targetting high-end side.

In terms of design, they are quite outstanding - they have a great deal of model
all with attractive designs, just check out their brochure.

In terms of sound, hmmm, if you compare the sound you get for the amount you pay for, I think it is absolutely GREAT VALUE.

Basically, nowadays there are a lot of different ranges of buyers out there, just like for graphic cards, e.g from GeForce 5XXX to GeForce 8XXX (I think those familiar with computer should know what I am talking about.). And Most buyers are now looking for VALUE FOR MONEY items, which I believe SonicGear is definitely one of the brand inside this category.

high-end??? disagree

attractive designs??? agree

unlike GPU business,where obvious stuffs will be VERY obvious.speakers are quite subjective,A may not like the boominess of BT3 but B might think otherwise.so,it really depends on the user,as long as they are happy.then everything's settled.i would pu sonic gear put more to cheap than value for money

It's depend on personal preference for speaker,as it very subjective for every1.

This is sonic gear fans club,which mean to discuss anything about sonic gear,not to pijak sonic gear teruk teruk.

BT3 is more on bass side,that's y i like it,cos i love listen to techno and trance which require more bass than treble which edifier is good.

If you really would like to see Sonic Gear improve then SG should not be afraid to face criticism because what is being said here are indeed feedback on SG's products. By the way just want to add that Edifier is still champ in terms of value for money

i really did once 'tried' to give sonic gear a chance but they really disappoint me even for their high end tube spakers A8 if not mistaken which cost 800++ same price for an aego2 o over the price of the mx5021 n acs 21 or add a bit more for the edifier s2000 (add another rm200) which i personally think beats it down flat

heck even my edifier r1900t3 sounds warmer n n better oriented then thier lower end tube amp spakers the cheapest iirc is aorund rm 400++ or mayb less
the t3 only cost 300++

Personally, I agree with what besaid said "Speakers are quite subjective". As according to what he said, all his disagreements is based on his own opinion and feelings. As the saying goes " One man's meat, another man's poision", it truly really depends on the user itself. I do believe that there are a lot of different users out there each with a lot of different opinions. Personally, if SonicGear is cheap, I don't know those people aiming for budget buys or aiming for affordable, good quality, nice design (i.e.value for money) speakers are what...

i do own BlueThunder II 5.1 speaker before.good sound produced when pair with my philips psc805 soundcard...sonic gear is quite good product actually..

hallo...ex user of evo 7 and blue thunder 1.....hmmmm....wat i can say is....everage....the quality is only everage...it cant go too loud..the sound will be too noisy if we open the volume more then 70%.....

to normal people,this speaker is just fine but to audiophiles...it lacks of everything....although i am not pro,but my ear still can judge the sound properly...and...that is why i change to Altec CS21....

their designer will have to modify their product because of info from distro?? =P first time hear that, perhaps just ask them to fired the designer group and just use your opinion to guide their design then... well ya. first thing i will suggest, that can't SG use their own design? rather than just copy other's outlook. internal part i don't dare to gurantee. but don't you notice that SG produce have some which looks so similar with ALTEC LANSING?
blue thunder 3 woofer is almost the same shape as altec lansing ACS45.1 / ACS295.
and there's numbers of design from sonic gear that mimic older altec lansing shap.
while morror 521 woofer look like creative woofer, satelite using logitech design...2GO design almost look a like with edifier MP220
that only makes me feel it's cheapo speaker as it copy other's design.
sound wise? i don't expect it sounds like B&W or AEGO M. but just at first, come out somethings flagship that can beat MX5021 / klipsch GMX or Edifier S2000.
all other brand has their own flagship. ranging from higher end to lower end. while SG product were all ranging at cheaper range, and all were same category/ range with different design only.
and do you really think add some LED screen at the front of the woofer is cool?
who really sit there and watch the eq dancing?
why don't just make it for listen, not to watch. you can save some cost there too. and not making it look so cheap.
try to think for customer too, some speaker doesn't come with grill. that's especially not good for children / home with small child.
as they will attracted by this vibrating thingy and eventually poke it.
to control volume, there's some model don't even have a wired remote control. all setting must done at the woofer. what if some one stuff their woofer under desk?
think about it again. consider from consumer point.
maybe then SG can sell better.
else point will pretty much rely on the sound quality...... this one, i can't help. perhaps SG desiner should go and listen to more speaker like edifier or altec which is their opponent. and perhaps. go for AE / B&W to learn more about hifi entry level speaker sound.

I totally agree... especially about imitating stuffs there...

again, check HERE and see, both brands seems like imitating each other, logitech, altec, camac, edifier and creative.

the most disgusting thing i notice on some speakers out there is that the port of the speakers are made of carton! not from plastic like what altec and edifier offer. the carton is just like the bloody toilet tissue tube carton... and i don;t know why should spend money for a speaker with carton

I was happen to bought a speaker which is also using carton. i don't complain, because the price was cheap eventually. and surprisingly the sounds are not so bad for that price. if sonic gear can make good design from its own but having lousy sounds, can lah, but if we pay high for copied design, lousy SQ, horrible material. i don;t think it deserve to be called value-for-money.

Hmm,i think sonic gear is fine with the quality of sound,it is what u paid and what u got.Give sonic gear some time,i think sonic gear will improve some weakness on their products or others.

BlueThunder II 5.1--jz 299 is a good buy for who want the good prices =5.1 speaker....sound quality is like "ok loh"......


Sonic gear is great in design....but a lot of ppl who are not that familiar with computer staff do attracted by design...as their sales is good ...

from my opinion...

I do accept some of the opinion or poit of view from other user. But something If other distro cant do it oesnt mean we cant, OEM yeah!!! Sonic Gear used to OEM for pass few year, we are slowly change towards ODM, it just need time to change.
For some other detail , sorry that cant tell just Thanks for those ppl are still care or look for the change of sonic gear.

For the LCD at the front i dun think that is a problem, i sure the speaker market too big, Some ppl may want the speaker look nice and the sound when they try and feel accept by them self thats enough. Coz for Lifestyle series speaker OUTlook Is very important.

For the BT3 woofer if user think is copied from ALtec 45.1 , i would like to say thanks! we just hope that make a woofer that offer a reasonable price for end user.
since 45.1 are no more in the market , and the price of BT3 are sell at reasonable price. I sure There is a lots of user like the Bass.

For one more thing is the speaker design of doesn't come with grill worry of children this and that , sorry please take care your children and put it at proper place , coz user are adult and when u buy this kind of speaker , u already know that the design is like that, and i am sure that u buy it parts of the reason is bcoz the design.


wow very tired to type! As a salesman i do hope my sales increase, but i also enjoy ppl get what they want from sonic gear. For a brand in the market only 4-5 years i think Sonic Gear have been done the good job.

I wont say Altec BAD if some of the model are not good or i dun like it(CS21 coz i dun like the deign , very ugly for me), i will just judge them model by model. I sure there are a lots of end user who own SonicGear are very Happy with the speaker they bought.

good opinion,between armageddon and BT3 some place selling out,and my cousin want to get it too.

what is the different between armageddon and BT3?

Just the color,1 is red(armageddon) while another 1 is blue(BT3).
The speaker is same,the armageddon more smother on the top of subwoffer than BT3 which is kasar.

Im interested in getting the armageddon !! Is the sound clear?

EVO 7 user here, I wouldn't say the quality is the best, but worth the money I am paying for. The woofer gives humming sound, but the treble is good. And yeah, I do agree that SG still need to improve alot, but they already made a good start.

sound is clear enuf,and got tremendous of bass.Anyway,i'm satisfied with my BT3(same like armageddon).
Especially bass,which i like,if u like bass,it's nice to get this speaker,the 2 satelites give u clear sound,go test it,cos no 1 have same preference of sounds.

As a salesman of course i know try b4 what i said.

I try CS 21 before coz i still have the demo unit in my company, i dun like the sound and the price at that model i can get a better one if compare to other brand like JBL and edifier S2.1D(i think the price for RM300+ model). And i judge the sound by my ears and my preference.

Please compare 2 thing which is same price or value. Coz i just feel like some of the post here are just wanna show how pro their ear. but for me every opinion is just different kind of view.


I do believe that although speaker are for your ear to listen but the outlook is also important.

for those who a just purposely want to laught at my english are welcome, coz i just secondary school and not good in english.

The way some of the guy post in this forum are seems like just wanna attak the fans club.

Cheated? they can try before they buy, and i think everyone are audiophile for them self as long as the speaker are bought for own use. (When a guy buy u a Klipsch ultra5.1 to u and u said dun like , u just want your small tiny, looks nice, and the sound quality is good enuf for u, Does it mean u are not audiophile or pro? i dun think so ! )

sorry if anyone of us offended you. Everyone's music preference is different thus CS21 might sound good for A but not for B. But honestly i do think improving the sound quality should be the top-most priority for every speaker manufacturer. Just like buying a phone: will you buy phone A with striking appearance but signal drops very often; Or a decent-looking car that max at 80kmph? I don't think so right?

I have a quick google on Sonic Gear products and unfortunately not much of positive feedback from users. Since you're a salesman for Sonic Gear why don't you collect and gather user feedback from review sites or user feedbacks, compile them and report to HQ? Honestly i wish to see SG improves especially in the sound quality. Appearance alone won't keep customers especially when die-hard fans notice Jay Chow sounded awkward on their speakers.

the improvement are always keep in mind , just need more time to slowly enhanced the quality, i always feedback to my HQ and the respond take sometimes coz each batch of speaker are huge in quantity. so please be patien.

This PC fair are coming i always so excited to see all competitor in one hall boom boom boom and make me headache, haha but can see new model from each company are very happy.

I dun mind ppl shoot on me or certain model from sonic gear, coz maybe they really dun like it or they have their own good speaker, but not all Sonic Gear product.

Coz after i try once to play music using optical output i really love it, coz the sound quality totaly different compare to analog. but currently in the market i think the speaker that use optical input most of them are more than RM300. Sigh!!!

i think bashing other brand's speaker is pointless, constructive opinion is more welcomed here, to help Sonic Gear to produce a better quality product. i wud prefer to see other brands' speakers users share their opinion abt their speakers here, and suggest on how to rectify the weaknesses of Sonic Gear products

seriously. i said my point not out from nothings. many of my friend back off from sonic gear because of the LED display design. they said it looks like a china brand.
why dont you start a vote, see how many user love the LED design and feel it's unnecessary?
why i said so is because, in the audio signal path. the more component it gone through, then the more negative influence to the audio quality. that's why, i think it's best for sonic gear to directly channel the input signal to the amp section. not going through the "graphical display". it will more or less lead to some bad sound.

Evo series are life style speaker, so we decide to put LED and some of it got MIC input, for me yeah look china when my 1st impression when i get this product. I say Yucks to my boss and friends this one is ah beng and ah lian will use no one will choose this!

But after get into market it was selling like a hot cake, when i meet some of the EVO series user the feed back are this speaker look nice, and for some of them they just want this speaker to match some where in the house. most of them are not use for PC, they use for VCD and DVD player(their reason are dun have such money RM500+ for a nice looking Home theather speaker, they only willing to paid RM 150 and below).

And i think the sound not really bad until cant accept at all for a normal end-user. They just want some sound are ok for them, Budget , look nice or match their home theather setting thats all.( Of course i wont use this speaker, but for my mum and those ppl dunno PC at all, EVO series speaker are the best looking compare tomost of the china look LED speaker.

For those high demand on sound quality yeah this EVO series are not suitable for you, but for normal end-user is alreay more than enuf with a speaker that only RM99-EVO3, EVO5-RM129 and EVO7 - RM 139.

For starters, SonicGear should start putting soft cloth (or metal) grills on their speakers. It can be removable or not. A lot of people have poked the dome of these speakers on display .

well,1st thing that sonic gear should try to do is send their staffs to an intensive english tuition... and pray hard.then maybe the design team can communicate better with the audio engineering team.we sure do not want them to misunderstand each other and make something weird again,right???like satelites with no protection???

Yup,my BT3 got no removable grill cloths unlike my old morro 221 which have,i hope sonic gear will put grill clothes on all speaker,otherwise speaker always got poked,not nice to see if got poked.

Ah...........In my point of view, the satellite is cool, coz shows the cone and the overall outlook is match and nice (added cover will be nothing special)

Adults should have knowledge where to put the speaker set and how to take care of their stuff, instead of blaming the speaker's design once it has been poked.

For those demo units in the retail shop which are poked, mainly is because of too many ppl look at it and touch. Generally, ppl are easily attract by pretty,cool stuff. Anyhow the design looks nice(for me).

I see that pic got totally no connection to sonic gear.if those are sonic gear's engineers,tell them not to fool around and do something that can improve sonic gear's situation.

Are you saying that people buying your products should place their speakers far away from the reach of child???That would surely solve the problem bout kids-poke-driver problem,but another will pop out.Do you know that to get the most out of the speaker,we should place it correctly?That means the speaker should be situated at the ear-level of our prefered sitting position.

Adult please keep in mind, you are the one who responsible to take care of your own children. if you think that your children might poked the satellite, then just choose other models which its satellite cone did not exposed instead of critic on the speaker design.

If this is the reasoning of SonicGear then I don't see any way it could match those better speakers out there. A speaker is best placed at your ear level and not away from people (especially kids who wants to poke the dome of speakers)!!! Anyway, I personally will poke any display SG I find until they learn their lesson.

i dont think speaker design should related to kids. a lot af other pc speaker or hifi also have a open look. for example MX5021, if the kids wanna poke the satelite also able to do that. if your house kids go to poke ur speaker that is your problem, not the speaker designer. i think the most important not the design look, is the sound quality.

as a new joiner in audio market, i believe improve sound quality and strike for more awards will significantly establish a good image to the end user. frankly speak, sonicgear really dont have a flagship speaker can fight with their competitor like S2.1D, MX5021, AegoM, or even though a Z2300. all those speaker i mentioned also win a lot of award and they also have the quality there. lets see logitech, they are produce mice and keyboard only last time, now every body know logitech. pls take note, logitech speaker are able strike for THX certified since they first join audio market. that is one of the reason logitech can so fast to grow up in the market.

my advice to sonicgear is.. try to improve sound quality, hire some expert(perhaps from hifi brand company ), get more award like what hifi, THX blablabla... try to put some effort in advertising, promote your company to good image, try to find some business alliance to expand the market

i am a sonicgear ex-user, i have bt2 last time when it just launch. that time sg is still very new, not much ppl know this brand. the reason i get to know bt2 is from star paper, they giv a best buy speaker award within RM250. so... award is very important! cheers

Maybe the satellite exposed type of speaker should just sell to single or no children one hahahaha!!!

Nothing to say for the satellite coz i dun feel ppl get what i mean. Really need to go to schoo tuition my english again.

Lazy to feedback to those just want their own preference accept by ppl, anyway enjoy yourself in this forum.


Some of the speker here also look nice and kids hand are small enuf to make the satelite spoiled, but it does really look nice for me. so do i have to complain to their engineer use their brain before design? i think the design is nice althogh easy poked.





For this one can use as hammer haha ! creative should make a box type satelite dun care about the outlook coz the sound good is enuf edi izzit?

Flag ship model , for my self still dun have one yet, coz still need time to slowly reach the RM 300+ for a good 2.1 system speaker.

I agree S2.1D was good. One of the speaker i like (optical input nice), other model not really like the sound.

RM300+ 2.1 system hopefully end of this year Sonic Gear will comes out one as a flagship speaker. Currently most of the Sonic Gear are pricing Below RM300, so really cant compare to those high-end model.

Not bad ah the picture,i think sonic gear will come out with new series of speaker,probably got blue thunder 4 extreme edition.
Or got new series,that for midrange more than rm300

i pretty much agree with the bold part.
regarding the THX. even though it's not all about audio. speaker without THX might able sounds better than those with THX one. but gaining the speaker a THX at least let the manufacturer gather enough knowledge for producing a nice speaker.
how ever.

another advice to all fellow in this forum. there's no point we suggesting anymore. the more we said will lead to more arguement as i feel that sonic gear dealer will not entertain our opinion anyway.
from buying a speaker we can argue to child education.

perhaps if i am a sonic gear user who has the speaker burned out, they can also claim that my house power supply is not stable.

really no point of us to suggest as i notice that your so call user opinion is you wish to read somethings like " i just bought my sonic gear, and it rocks, it's best sounding speaker i ever heard. definitely worth the price."
we are here spending out time typing all this u think is just to make you feel hard?

even in edifier forum also will suffer some former who unhappy about their certain model. not all edifier is good, but at least they have somethings which most formers agree should sound the best for specific budget. and edifier did make afford to hire some sound engineer to come out with their S2000. and that is enough to make edifier more superior than SG. and our Mr. Edifier is truly friendly. at least he doesn't argue with consumer when they give their opinion, suggestion, or even flame at edifier speaker. that superior customer service already give enough reason for people to choose edifier.

i am not edifier fan boy anyway.
if you can't accept our opinion. you can just place up a vote, to see what a user prefer. if most of us voted for "I WANT GRILL" then do reflect it back to manufacturer, by adding a grill it might help sales. no point argue with children education over here.. end up those user still don't like the products that come out from SG after endless argument. even though you win here so what , consumer has the money, they can choose not to buy or to buy.

My style are bring out what i feel, i wont just say yes or thanks, and honestly opinion is collect for reference. and what i feed back was my own preference and i also a speaker user. Maybe cant consider as a audiophile, coz i more on sales and marketing.

And please compare apple to apple , coz i hard to feed back that speaker cost RM 400++ to compare Sonic Gear 2.1 system for just RM 209 or cheaper.

The satellite without grill are acceptable from a sales firgue thats why i feel that are a lot of user like it.

So far i didnt see much Sonic Gear user in LYN, coz most of the EVO series user are lifestyle user, not much related to PC.

compro,CooLeRthings is totally right.if you are the representative of SG,then you are actually bearing the name of the company on your back.there are sayings like once spoken,you cant take it back.so as a person dealing with sales and marketing,i think you know well enough that customers are always right.(kinda sad ,huh??? but you gotta accept it)and its never never ok to take customers feedback with a pinch of salt.since PC fair is around the corner,people might come to this part of the forum looking for advise at speakers,and i certainly feel this thread wont give a good 1st impression.

secondly,if you want people to respect your style,why not you try respecting this thread 1st???you are certainly going out of topic with the pic of you and your friend and that robot.this is not your blog where you can write out everything you feel,this is a public forum,where people come together and share out their idea,i hope you will respect this forum...

EVO 5 for RM155? maybe that price is considered cheap in Penang
Anyway, glad you happy with your speaker. BTW, does your speaker produce muddy bass or humming sound out of the woofer? My EVO 7 does, with certain songs (is this normal, compro?) . I wanted to get myself an EVO 5 too last time, but they only had white colour available, so had to pay extra RM20 to get EVO7

The bass is excellent

where your location cyew86 ? can send for a check! if really got problem will repair in 1 hour at my office, more than 1 hour will change you a new set!

So far didnt get complain or status from dealer or my warranty department.
