yea, KO in terms of higher fuel consumption and probably more noisy cabin. not bashing proton but most of us knows proton cars FC haven't been so well, and the NVH also one of their weakness.

If have rumour for pricing do share.
The base auto will be the most ideal.

since preve the nvh quite good right, just the cvt whine left, even that cvt whine was obvious due to other sounds being barely audible. From journalist reviews it sounds like cvt whine also improved, awesome lol.

FC with vvt so so la, can count as average already, not bad as old campro. Can't wait to test drive it myself =)

It's a mystery that Proton decided that no Premium MT for 2016 Persona. Compare to Perodua that offer MT/ AT for Bezza Premium X.

Hope is not same CVT model/brand with Iriz

well, they r using alot of things from iriz. they migrate the whole dashboard, seats, steering LOL, looks familiar with my iriz, a sedan iriz?

Does the rear bonnet seem like abit tall (so far only judged based on these images)? Just hope that it will not be the same view as bezza, as from my point of view bezza one looks abit tall when it is coupled with 14' rim tyres on the road..

too bad it can't get EEV status, hoping saga can get EEV status.

The CVT same brand as Iriz? will it got rubberband effect? and issue like those in Iriz?

Test drive yesterday already. Looks and feels good. Cvt good. Nvh good. Lagging a bit in traffic light. Booked one.

How can get EEV status with old engine and gearbox?

EEV status doesn't depend on your engine is new or not. if to say old, bezza dual VVT NR series engine is at least 8 years old, while campro vvt is just like 5 years old max.

the vehicle weight plays an important role in fuel economy, of coz the tuning of engine and gearbox as well. to entitle for EEV status for persona and saga (1000-1200kg level), the FC need to be 5.0L per 100km tested under a dunno what UN standard adi. Persona fail it because relatively heavy body (that makes the FC higher), and the slightly bigger engine capacity.

With saga, i presume the weight is 1050kg, which is 100kg lesser than persona, and 1300cc vvt engine, with a better tuned CVT box, i think saga able to achieve the requirement of 5L per 100km provided proton tune it well. Just finger crossed.

i dont think saga will get EEV unless they reduce the weight or calibrate kasi lemau ( only use low rpm)

Whats the benefit to us if declared EEV? I don't really get it.

saga is the only chance for proton to undercut bezza and myvi at one shot. persona will be fighting on it's own turf as there's no b seg sedan from perodua, same as preve. iriz is fighting with myvi but it lose out.

Bezza is A seg and for saga proton place it under A+ seg, with the body frame and platform remains the same as old saga, i believe the interior space wouldn't be a a world apart from current saga hence make it more spacious than bezza, but still, it really depends on how much effort proton had put into saga if they wanna undercut bezza using saga. I just worried proton put too much effort in persona and ertiga and less concentration on saga, in the end of the days we still having reliability problem, assembly problem, bad NVH (saga NVH is really a killer i would say).

Just hope that the upcoming saga is a good car, if the fuel ecoonomy is good then it will able to put up a good show, forcing perodua to up their game by improving bezza. i call it healthy competition.

lower petrol consumption. Normally they apply well to city cars but if you go to highway then consumption tend to increase as their normally or always 3 cylinder engine. Their not meant for performance.

Saga will lose out to the bezza in terms of FC. FC is one thing that encourages malaysians to buy that car. This is why people would rather get the highest spec Axia compared to a myvi or iriz. Bezza would also probably win in terms of the Perodua name where most malaysians(especially chinese) refuse to buy Proton despite all their improvements. Well, u know their reputation.

What the Saga will win at is 4 cylinder 1.3 VVT engine at the very least. Probably with Lotus handling. Safety will have to follow at the very least what the Bezza already has. At the same time they need to keep cost low so probably no HPF or full safety features across all variants.

Keep us updated please looking into this car at the moment

repo wise, perodua beats proton hands down; reliability wise, perodua wins proton by a tat. both have their own problems but relatively perodua is better. my house 2006 myvi doing well but 2009 saga BLM already had some oil seal and bearings replaced.

FC wise, needless to say, campro iafm vs dvvt.

For handling no way perodua come close to Proton, i tested bezza and the body roll makes me uneasy, and the throttle response is really sluggish, i used to thought my BLM throttle response is sucks enough, guess i found another champion already.

i agree to you, i think HPF will not feature on the saga, but if proton able to achieve tax break due to EEV status, then maybe HPF is possible. When your car is lighter, you able to get a better FC. Old sga BLM is 1050kg, i bet the new saga should be around that, the game plan will be tweaking the engine and gearbox if proton want to push saga for EEV status.

I'm really looking forward for the new saga, to see whether it able to challenge the supremacy of bezza when it launch, if proton really sincere, i think they could.

we are a right hand drive country so most of the time left hand is on the gear

Guess what, no point really if its on your left or right since most malaysian do not know how to use it, better not to put it at all to save cost, just 1 single button is enough, the hazard light switch which is important to use when its heavy pouring rain (another wrong thing malaysian love to do)...sad but it is true~

why review slow leh. been itching to read more reviews from new buyers or anybody who already test drive

Test driven it on 3-4km stretch, quite long compared to others but short for giving a thorough impression. Just my tots:
1. Engine perf: throttle response is ok. Car a bit slow during take off, but surprisingly brisk after that. In a rather leisurely sprint, 20 to 50kmh is achieved with super ease. CVT is smoother & lot more responsive than iriz.
2. NVH: Unless u put your meticulous aural attention to it, engine noise is barely audible at 50-80kmh. At slower city speeds, the engine rumble is bit heard but acceptable. The usual campro "boom" sound is suppressed, and it feels pleasant. Didnt got the chance to drive at highway speeds tho. Old persona sounded terrible at 70dB at speed limit, and i hope this new one score less than 63dB (jepunis B segment standards). For window/door sound insulation (motorcycle noise passing by), it still not as good as preve/suprima which are actually a segment higher. But in terms of engine noise & cvt whine supression, this persona wins over preve & suprima.

3. Steering: EPS makes it easier to drive in the city. Feels light but its responsive on fast corners. But sometimes miss the super pinpoint accuracy & lightning fast feedback of the old persona hydraulic steering.

4. Handling: Body roll is minimal & car is in good control when making sudden fast lane change. Typical of Proton's lotus handling legacy.

5. Interior quality: Plastics parts are all good EXCEPT for the aircon knobs. It rattles & wobbles when twisted, feels not smooth & lacks tactility (same with Iriz). The older Persona feels a lot better in this area. Azlan Othman (chief designer), please take note. Try to twist aircon knob from a mazda2 & u will know what it meant to be tactile.

Overall, i think its miles ahead from the previous gen2 based persona. The greatest improvements made are NVH & acceleration. A pleasant drive for average drivers like me. (Owned almera & old persona). But i do wish for a better comfort tuned suspension like jepunis, dont mind sacrificing the handling a bit.

Understand that Japanese is the weird one here, not the rest of the world's car manufacturer. the setup Proton used are Europe style, and most of Europes are right hand drive. US as a left hand drive country also uses the same position, even when their cars export to right hand drive countries, they just moved the steering wheel's positions without flipping the signal/wiper controls. Same thing when European cars exported to left hand drive countries, they won't flip the controls.

its my preference since i drive a manual so my left hand is usually on the gear lever.

Just found that manual standard also come with hill-hold-assist which i thought available for auto transmission only.

Anyone mind to share how it works? Do driver need to do sth to activate it or it automatically functions when the car in slope position?
It works when the car incline fwd, reverse or both?

When traffic light turn green
The car will hold still
It would give you 3 second to switch from brek to acceleration paddle
To get moving.

Im driving manual too.. N i think i don hav a problem with the signal lever.. Never had a problem when give signal n change gear.. Huhu the problem came when i drive myvee.. Huhu

the system utilizes the ESP unit (that is what assisting you to brake/hold the car), and since it comes standard in ALL variant, you get HHA for free

it doesn't matter on forward or reverse incline, it will hold as the car is simply braking for you when it detects an incline/slow or stop speed from its gyro sensor and wheel speed sensors

hahah that's my sister/my complaint as well since unlike most Malaysian that doesn't bother giving signal, i do even when i'm driving spiritedly/traffic weaving and having 1 hand readily to shift gears while the other on the steering all the time using a finger to flick signals is godsend, or rather, probably what i'm used to from all my cars thus far.

though, not something that would be too much of an issue, i guess i can signal earlier, then shift lol.

typically, it's only a matter of sticking the badge/logo/marketing it or not.

reviews will probably have to wait like the perdana where proton invited all the media reviewers to a road trip. dont know whens that gonna happen

for now,no need for lotus rnh badge cuz all malaysian engineers are trained and worked under lotus before come back to work in proton,even some still working in lotus. equipments,softwares n methods are the same. even tested in lotus track worked with some lotus engineers.so,not much diff. eventhough proton is parent co for lotus,they still need to pay for the badge,so,it is cost associate.

but they might used the badge if they want to sell it outside,just for marketing purpose,but they have to bear the cost. for example,preve.

agree... once u familiar with indicator stalk on the left, it'll be OK.
i've drove manual waja (2004-2015) before change to preve cfe.
