n 80 user here smile.gif been using for quite some time now, my complain is that the phone likes to give me the out of memory error when web surfing using the nokia browser, maybe cos my mini sd card is only 128MB. the browser also likes to crash when downloading a page that is more than 1.3 MB, maybe a newer firmware will fix this but i am not sure, my firmware is v3.0614.0.1 31-03-2006  RM-92.

anyway i like this phone much, when connected to pc very stable connection to digi edge  rclxms.gif transfering pictures to and from is also very easy.

was planning to get the e70, but it never appear so i got this phone.

watch out for the small screen, not very comfortable for  long hours web browsing but quality is good. hi res amazing screen.  thumbup.gif
*
I faced that too last time but not so in the new firmware. Go and flash ur firmware. I believe the memory card capacity has nothing to do with the memory usage. The one u need to watch out for is the operating memory.

Nokia announced N80 Internet Edition...tempting leh. Due on mid sept.

QUOTE
The Nokia N80 Internet Edition comes out of the box ready to create, connect, consume and interact with some of the internet's most popular services. Use Yahoo! Search in the Mobile Search application to conveniently search for and find most anything on the web, and use the Mini Map functionality of the internet browser to enjoy the pages you find.  Browse through thousands of items at Amazon.com, or scroll though a book with Amazon's MobiPocket Reader. You can also share your moments online - snap a photo and send it directly from your device to your Flickr site for your friends and family to enjoy too. Connect to the Yahoo! community using the Yahoo! Go for Mobile application. Be it shopping with Amazon, photo sharing on Flickr or simply searching for a restaurant with Mobile Search, the Nokia N80 Internet Edition can provide you convenient internet access when you are away from your PC.

"Mobilizing the internet is a major strategic focus for Nokia and I'm excited to see how people can participate on the internet using the Nokia N80 Internet Edition," said Ralph Eric Kunz, vice president, Multimedia, Nokia. "The internet has evolved from static web pages to communities and people sharing experiences. I believe it will be multimedia computers, such as the Nokia N80 Internet Edition, that will be primary devices for people to participate in this phenomenon, in addition to PCs."

The Nokia N80 Internet Edition comes loaded with Nokia's new Download! client. Clicking on the Download! folder allows you to see what new applications are available for your multimedia computer, as well as keeping other selected applications current.  The fully featured Nokia Web Browser with Mini Map makes browsing the internet easy and you view the web pages just the same way that PC web browsers display web pages.

If you do not know where to go to chill out for the evening, no problem, just use the local search function in the Mobile Search application, now conviently located on main menu, and find a cool bar, have the device show it on a map, or make one click to call it directly. You can even store address and telephone number directly to your contacts to find the place again next time.

Making an Internet call with the Nokia N80 Internet Edition is as easy as making a regular voice call only the call is carried over WLAN.  The VoIP framework (based on the SIP protocol) is integrated into the Nokia user interface, and the Nokia N80 Internet Edition is allows for downloading compatible third party internet call applications. The wireless LAN wizard will help you locate and set up a WLAN connection, when you are close to a WLAN, either at home or a public hotspot.

The Nokia N80 Internet Edition comes in two stylish colors, patina bronze and pearl black, and is expected to be available from mid-September 2006.

All of the features and services listed above are dependent on the network, supported digital content formats, the compatibility of other devices and applications, and are only avaialbe in certain markets. Please refer to the user guide for more detailed information

Proud owner of N80 here

Anyway i just wanna share my experience. It's been few days i use a hard plastic cover for my N80. It is a two piece and holds the phone by the side of the slider. Altough it seems fine and protect the phone from scratches, it turn out to be the opposite. When i opened it back i notice that the cover made some scratches to the phone. The plastic cover had little sharp plastic poking from the inside towards the phone which causes the scratches. ANd the scratches are not made when i opening or closing the cover, but is when the cover is alrdy intact.

Anyway i is krussel cover's bulky? Because i search around and i found it to be the leather type which is kinda bulky. And 1 more thing, is the original casing of N80 changeable?

No i do not think you can do it, except you have the specific tools and skills which i assume normal people won't have. If your phone is original set then just send to authorized service center to flash ur firmware. u will not be charged.

I personally never try WMA or WMV format before. Maybe there are some 3rd parties software which does so in N80, but I am not sure.

I am using OEM 2G miniSD card i bought from one of the forumer here. So far so good smile.gif

If you check the operating memory as soon as u restart ur phone, the operating memory can actually be at ~18MB...but somehow the operating memory will reduce over the time....to ~14MB...I also dunno why...

The battery size normal to me, just the capacity can't hold the phone long enough.
'no voice dial?' Trust me i can dial using my voice.
'no auto lock' You can use 3rd party application such as 'Autolock' from Petteri Muilu. With this application able to set from 10 seconds till 240 seconds to auto lock the phone keypad.

Just want to add here, all of the N80 owners will be able to update their phone firmware online through the new Nokia Software Updater software themselves, without having to send their phone to svc center, But there is an unconfirm information that it is only applicable for the firmware version 4 and above. So, I guess I have to update my phone firmware to v4.0 first which is currently only available for EMEA version, and not for APAC version.

However, I did able to update my backup phone, N70 firmware through this method..

Can i send my original N80 to Nokia Service Centre for flashing free of charge? Does flashing remove the whole phone memory and restore to it's factory settings?

Why i cant restore my phone's factory settings by going menu>tools>settings>phone>general>restore phone original setting? After putting in the lock code nothing happens except the phone restarts.

And ya is there silicon casing for N80?

help me again pls blush.gif ... my pdf file won't open, says something like operation failed, not enough memory, thats strange cos my memory card has like 100 MB of free space and my pdf file is only 3 MB, anyone knows why? notworthy.gif  rclxms.gif

Glad to hear that U have received it, FTI, pls ensure that your phone memory is adequate instead of your memory card and pdf file size. My advise is for u to reset the call log time to 1 day only, and please ensure that other apps is not open at the same time too.

Thanks

It should be your operating memory rather than the memory card capacity...you can try Taskman to monitor your operating memory smile.gif

I just called Mobile Technic Sdn Bhd, which is listed under Nokia Website as their authorized care center, they still don't have the v4 firmware. I wonder why Nokia distribute their firmware not accordingly one....sigh

went to a phone shop yesterday
and asked about the N80.
Almost picked it.

but the shop guy said
"personally I won't encourage you to buy N80. It's because the phone is so powerful that the movie is in MP5 file and other phones couldnt read this file. So does the pictures. It's so high in megapixel that other phones can't support it."

N80 able to record in 3gp & MP4 format. I did send the 3gp format to Sony Ericsson K500i. The movie aable to be play without any problem. Anyway I did send MP4 format to Sony Ericsson w810i, only can hear the audio, no video.

Maybe its because, N80 record video at 352x288 & Sony Ericsson w810i not support this resolution.

If it involved moving parts, like the slider, of cause it will be loose over the time...you just have to live with that or NOT choose a slider form factor phone...as easy as that...anyhow, i manage to solve the loose sliding on N80, check the 1st post for the tips... smile.gif

Well...i am using the N80 for quite some time now an frankly i think it is a great phone...if you are an average joe, just like me, who do some phone calls, some sms & mms, some internet browsing, some documents viewing, some music listening, some video watching....i do not see why and cannot find a reason to say N80 is not a good phone...but end of the day, it all comes to what the user wants and thinks....personally for me, it is a great phone!

As for waiting for the price to drop thing....i have been in the waiting game and it is really sucks...when the price for N80 is dropped, you will have something more advance in the market, that you will probably have your eyes on....unless you can say that N80 will ultimately still be your target after a year or so, i do not encourage the waiting for price drop...just my opinion though...

Well, if you put it like that, it's like saying the N80 is too great to exist, wouldn't put it that way though...

True, if you recorded movies in MPEG4 format, some other phones might not be able to play it, or in some cases, might be able to only play out voices...HOWEVER, if you recorded you video in 3gp format, i don't see why other phones might not be able to support it..

pictures? Now that's just plain dumb... I've sent pictures that are WAYYY better than 5mp quality pictures but it still could display it, the phone would automatically resize the pic in order for him/her to see it...

Yup...not just in N80 though, it's possible to do so in every n-series phone you see... it's versatile..Though Survivor is right, the mpeg4 format is definitely better than the 3gp, but it takes up A LOT of space, so, use it discreetly or you'll find youself with insufficient space

Nokia's doing fine and dandy and all, but Nokia better deal with their phone's camera... it takes great videos but mediocre images, they could take a hint from SE..

Play with the N80? that sounds...rather weird... I get what you mean though, Well, if there's WLAN available, and no computer or laptop around, the n80 makes a good web browser, careful of the Battery level though, it goes down quite fast..

Then there's the good ol' symbian games, it keeps me company from time to time, but sometimes music just seems to hit the spot... Although the sound quality is rather...Hollow...

Don't forget about it's video capabilities (I don't snap photos as ...well) I don't know about most of you, but my cousins always tend to do freakishly stupid stuff and dumb actions, getting it down on video is a nice addition to my blackmail list (and that's why I don't snap photos, I'd rather have them watch what they did instead of still pictures)

Last but not least, the SLIDE~ Yeah, slide up and down, go on N80... ok, so that's not good, but sue me...i love doing it, and that's why my N80's slide is loose, sigh, though it can be toughen up...but i kinda have a fetish for sliding things up and down..so...

Sony Ericsson W990i take better indoor video compare with my N80. Almost no noise, anyway for some reason the recorded voice seems so far.

Try to reflash your phone at Service Centre. Never having with mine about the can't detect sim card. Maybe you take out your sim card and clean the sim card.

Haih.. even with PC Suite 6.81 still can't get it connect to the phone.

My video call got some problem. I hear caller video but can't really hear the voice, its seems the voice corrupted? I not how to say the nearers words to say similar when you hear scratch CD. Anyway the caller can see my video & voice quite good.

Download the SMS Accelerator by Nokia for N80, it really speeds up the SMS and MMS sending...i've tried it and it is really good.

Click Here! to find the software n other various N80 softwares.

May i know what is the use of holding the top right button above the red button(cancel call button) for few seconds? An image of a smiley appears and asks me to speak...as if it's recording or something.

Can someone tell me?

Most of the new Nokia hav auto save of voice recognition. When u store the name into contact, Nokia will automatically create a voice tag for them. When u press that button, it will ask u for voice recognition so u would not need to dial the number...

Is the voice tag automatically set up by the phone? If yes then i dont think it is very accurate. I tried saying "dumb" and then the phone starts to dial a contact which isnt close to "dumb" at all. Is the voice tag set-able?

Example i put the voice tag for a contact as "one". Then i say "one" then i dial the number. Is that able to be set?

Well, as what i can see, those new phones by Nokia do have automatically set voice tag though..U could preview the voice tag from each name to see the exact type..

Why can't i restore my phone original settings by going menu>tools>settings>phone>general>restore original factory settings?

After i done that, the phone restarts but all data is still the same before, nothing changed and the time remained the same too together with msg and contacts.

The arrow means that your phone has been divert to another number....

Blue blinking means that your phone is standby mode, if I not mistaken.

As I know Nokia Service Centre at Plaza Berjaya charges RM 30.00 for AP set.

The blue light is the LED, which is activated when your phone is in the sleep mode not standby mode.

I think users does not need to upgrade to 3G simcard anymore. All u need to do is download the setting from respective operators and u already can use the 3G services..Anyway, just seeing the price of N80 started to drop again recently after some time stablizing...

no need change sim card...as long as ur current sim card is 64k sim then all u need to do is activate 3g. then u can use it. the change sim card is for additional things n stuff u get from a new sim card. thats all. no big diff... i changed my sim card. my best fren didnt...he is using 64k sim card. basically no different. we both can video call each other perfectly.speed is same.

hie guys... n80 user here...just decided to come to lyn to check out the n80 scene here ;P...

why isnt anyone talking about software???
imho...n80 is a good phone...can do alot with it...edit word docs, excel etc with office suite...
use it to organise my life...a pocket pc would be better but cant complain for the price i paid for my unit plus it has 3g...
so far i convert my vids and movies to mp4 coz playback is smooth and good ... (download super video converter from erightsoft.com for free)

im still trying to get smart movie and divx player to play avi files properly, it lags and goes out of sync alot and the quality sucks...anyone has experience converting movies to avi and playing it on smart movie or divx player ?? (divx player is free btw)

another thing is ive read alot about surfing the net with the n80 browser where there is a little map of the whole page and then there is the cursor and stuff where they say is like the real internet browsing experience on a phone..but i dont know how to use any of them..all i get is standard web browsing where the page is downsized to fit the phones screen...any hints guys??

keep this thread informative ppl...

by using your original cable & some kind of software, you can update your firmware by yourself. i think phoenix & prommer software...

I never try it, but if google it, you may find... hope other user who try it, can give a comment....

Firmware is your phone OS. Every new firmware fixed some bugs that you found on the older firmware and as a result when u update your firmware, you get a more bugs-free phone (not to say totally bugs-free). For example, older firmware has the problem of "out of memory" when you r browsing, and the new firmware fixed this problem and you will not have the "out of memory" issue anymore when you r browsing. Updating your original Nokia phone firmware at authorized Nokia Service Center will not void the warranty, and it is free of charge too if your phone is still under warranty. Hope this clear your mind smile.gif

QUOTE(Survivor @ Oct 3 2006, 07:58 AM)
Yeah, u must be careful when you choose the browsing application in N80. For WAP, u will need to use the "Services", for full HTML website, use the "Web" instead.

I've just updated my phone firmware using the updater tool, but i got it from Nokia Asia... I guess it's the same as the nokia uk version above...

Anyways, it was a pretty easy thing to do.... not as time consuming compared to the 2hr wait u gotta endure if upgrading at nokia's service centres...

All i had to do was:
1. download the Nokia Software Updater program (15.9mb)
2. install the program
3. backup phone memory into memory card
4. connect phone via usb
5. update the firmware..... (The Nokia Software Updater would detect the phone model, and then download the latest firmware available... The firmware for nokia n80 is 72mb.. this took less than 15mins... and then it proceeded to install the firmware, which took about another 5-10mins)
6. restore phone memory from memory card to phone

easy easy!!... haha...

For jwai85's question #4, just read the Phone Update FAQ from nokia's support website carefully and follow the instructions given while updating the firmware... basically the most important thing to do is backup ur phone memory, and don't disconnect/switch off the phone while updating the firmware.... Its advisable that ur phone is fully charged before updating the firmware, but mine wasn't... heheh... still had about 5/6 bars so i just proceeded... updating the firmware consumed about 1 bar....

Now my phone's firmware is
v4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
rm-92
nokia n80 (11)

It's only necessary to download the Nokia Software Updater once, so for future updates just connect the phone and the program will download the latest firmware..

Kayint,
u need to be logged in as the computer administrator in order 2 b able 2 install NSU & update the firmware..

check ur winxp account settings at control panel>user accounts
if u're using a limited user/guest account u need 2 log out & re-login using admin account..

p/s: im typing this reply on my N80..no more out of memory probs! Woohoo! I can also zoom in pix easily without freezing the phone.. To those who haven't updated to v4 firmware, do it quick! ;D

Owh... I'm not too sure about this, but your current account may be the normal administrator account... U might need to login into the main computer administrator account, which is hidden....If u wanna give it a shot, check out
1. http://www.petri.co.il/add_the_administrat...n_in_xp_pro.htm or
2. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

i just noticed that my previous post had so many spelling errors doh.gif ...hahaha..paiseh paisehh blush.gif ...

i tried using the updater yesterday and it failed ... sumhow there was a prompt that said that there werent any updates for my n80..and mine is v3.0617 ...i think sumhow maybe i hafta get rid of the 3 telco branding 1st... what about u guys?? anyone using overseas n80 with branding but successfully updated their phone to nonbranded fw??

one more thing im curious to know is if its possible to add more icons to the GO TO function?? there is a search bar, but onli 3 icons (inbox, notepad, calender) i mean how stupid can it be??

Survivor , sorry to hear about your phone...im sure everyone updating their phones will be xtra careful after what happened to yours...

There's several options that i can suggest:
1. U can update your phone firmware using the nokia software updater and Adobe Reader LE 1.5 comes with it...

2. Download the adobe reader for nokia E series here. It works fine on N80

3. Download a third party application to read pdf files here. Quite a number of N80 discussion boards link to this application, so i guess it works...

I'd suggest u go for option 1 or 2, as the apps are certified by nokia....

^ Ya only mem card can be scanned .. but whats the point, as the core files that you wanna protect is on the phone mem itself, and also when you DL stuffs and surf web over the phone, an AV solution is a must.
How to update..? by using the web of course.. either you connect via GPRS or WLAN.
There is 1 Bullguard AV, that gives 1 mth trial, but when I DL the Symbian S60, cant install. My phone says invald application. Hmm...

There is only 1 way to find out.... However even you do bring to service center. Thats the same way they going to update the hp. Read in the FAQ somewhere.

13. Is the update different if I take my phone to Nokia Service Center?

No, this is the same update you would receive at a Nokia Service Center, with the added advantage of convenience, as you can perform the update from any location with network coverage or Internet connection.

If still got doubt better check at here... http://www.nokia.com.my/nokia/0,,96612,00.html#13

yeah the update works for both authorized distibutor & ap phones... it just doesn't work with sim-locked phones, which thankfully we don't get in malaysia biggrin.gif

I've done 3updates using the NSU - my n80(i-mobile), my sister's n70(ap) & my mum's e70(avaxx)... all successful, just follow the instructions closely and monitor your phone throughout the update progress... thumbup.gif

Yes do backup anything that you saved on the phone to the memory card. Or use the PC Suite to do extra backup.

-Contacts
-Msg
-Notes
-Picture and so on

then remove your memory card after you going to update the phone. The rest follow the walkthrough.

I am wondering, if we use high speed miniSD in our N80, for example the 80x miniSD, will that speed up the memory card read n write time? Or it doesn't show much effect? Does the N80 hardware support the high speed memory card?

don't think will help up, lagging by OS, not memory read/write speed.  sweat.gif

U misunderstood my question. If u install programs in phone memory, it run respectably fast, but if u install the same program in memory card, it will tend to lack...i m asking will a faster memory card help this kinda situation?

i think the memory card reading from N80 depends on the N80 RAM itself. like PC la bigger RAM faster to read/write.

you can't plug in a normal earphone straight into the N80. You have to plug it to the audio adapter and then plug the audio adapter to the phone. The socket for the phone is different than the earphone. But you can plug the nokia headset straight to the phone.

Yes one end of the cable is a USB connector.

Please check the 1st post under Other Tips & Tricks: To fixed N80 loose sliding mechanism. Click the spoiler to check out the full tips. I think it is completely normal. N80 has light sensor build in, and the phone AI is trying to adjust the lighting as according to your environment. If you are in a bright place, the keypad lights might be turn off to save the battery usage...and when the environment become darker, the keypad light will turn on....nothing much to worry about smile.gif

I worked on the cellofon tape first. Taping one on top of the other until they become thicker (5~6 layers), then i cut it into a small strip n stick it in the sliding reel.

If you are in a bright place, the keypad lights might be turn off to save the battery usage...and when the environment become darker, the keypad light will turn on....nothing much to worry about smile.gif

I just press Yes on 'Connection to server needed. Connect?'. It will show all the connection setting available. As for me, I'm Maxis user so it will show all setting that I'm downloaded from Maxis web site. If I'm gonna use WiFI, Then I'll choose 'Search for WLAN? it will automatically shows all WLAN available around me. If its showing "connection not available" means it can't find WLAN or there's no WLAN coverage around. That's all.

I'm done nothing on defining on accesspoint.

just go to services>options>settings>access point>always ask.

by doing this, evytime u wan to connect to a particular website, the phone will search for available access points, either 3G, GPRS etc. from then on there'll b an option "search for WLAN".

click that to c a list or WLAN around ur area. simple.

and yes, the N80 comes wif light sensor. if im not mistaken its at ur secondary camera. try covering it in bright daylight n ur keypads will light up. leave it uncovered n ur keypads wont light up. nice technology wink.gif

Hey check this site out. Might help cuz i used this to set my Wi-Fi up. I didn't follow 100%, but tweak some settings here n there to suit my needs. It should however give u a general idea though.

Hope this helps.

S60 3rd Feature Pack 1, new to existing N80? blink.gif

Source

QUOTE
1. Where is the cool Nokia Web Browser?
I mostly wanted the N80 to get my hands on the new Nokia browser that comes with Symbian Series 60 3rd edition. When I first used the phone I nearly flipped out because the browser sucked big time.
It took me a while to find out that the browser icon on the main screen called Services is the WAP browser and not the new Nokia Web browser. This browser is well hidden under a folder called 'My Own'. Bloody Hell Nokia! Tell your service providers to ship the N80 with the Web browser on the main screen. You are hiding the best feature of this phone. I found several questions why the N80 browser sucks on discussion forums. So I am not alone with this. Additionally the shitty WAP browser looks the same as the new Web browser to make sure everybody is confused. To solve this mess I moved the Web browser from under My Own to the main applications folder. Update: Puneet S. suggested that you also can use the media access button, where on the right is also the web browser linked. I am really happy with this browser. It is fast. I can browse I4U (see photo) like I do on my PC. The zoom out is great. The N80 screen is fantastic.
The new S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 Nokia announced yesterday actually solves that issue by merging the two browser into one.

2. Can the Blue blinking LED be switched off?
The answer is no. The LED starts blinking when the phone is in sleep mode to tell you that the phone is still on. Nokia, please, please add a feature in the next firmware update to turn this LED off. Nobody needs it and it keeps people awake at night. It is not even a soft blinking, it is a harsh flashing. The best solutions are either to connect the charger when keeping the phone next to the bed, turn it over or use black or silver fingernail color to paint the LED. Upate: I4U reader Puneet S. says that he has turned off sleep mode and that the battery life is not affected that much.

3. How to determine which Firmware your Nokia N80 is on?
The current N80 firmware is V 4.0623.0.41. You can see the version when connecting the N80 to your PC and right click on the N80 icon in the Nokia Phone Browser under My Computer. Or you can press *#0000# on the N80 and it will display the firmware version (Thanks Puneet S. for the tip).

4. How to upgrade the Firmware on your Nokia N80?
Nokia offers the Nokia Software Updater (download) for Windows XP that enables you to flash your N80 firmware. You can also go to Nokia service centers to have it done. FOTA (Firmware update over the air) is supposedly in the works.

5. Why is the battery life so short?
Check if you have Show availability under Settings/Connection/Wireless LAN set to Yes. Set it to never. I have now stand-by of a couple of days. With the Show availability switched on the battery was empty after 12 hours. Update: Puneet S. suggest to decrease the screen brightness by a notch and switch to GSM only mode. He gets a 2.5 day battery life with moderate talk-time.

6. How to protect the N80?
The N80 looks well made, but somehow I feel I need to protect it to keep it save from scratches. I decided to go with a crystal clear case, as these ad only a little bulk and do not hid the looks of the phone. These cases sell for a couple of $ on eBay. Updates: I4U Reader Roger S. went with a case from Krusell, because he needed a belt clip. Puneet S. just protects the screen with the typical clear plastic screen guards. He thinks the case is robust enough.

If you want longer lasting battery life.. u will have to ask yourself this question.

Do u need 3g connection most of the time? If YES, then I guess buying a spare battery is the only way forward.

If the answer is NO, then, you can switch your Network Connection from DUAL to only GSM. This way, your phone do not need to constantly search between 3G and GSM network when you go from places to places. This way, your battery life will be conserved and last longer.

Just my 2 cent tongue.gif

I can tell you that from my experience, this have something to do with the brand of mini-SD card u r using. I was previously using Kingston mini-SD 1 GB and was having the same problem like u. Sometimes, I can't format the card or sometimes I can read certain things of the card. Imagine recording something on video and then to find out that u can no longer access it vmad.gif

But nevertheless, the only way forward for me was to either use the OEM mini-SD card given OR use the RIDATA mini-SD card. I'm currently using this card because the dealer from which I bought the phone from told me that the OEM mini-SD is actually a RIDATA card. So far so good for me. No more such issues. Everything is stable biggrin.gif

Well, even it is a brand new set, the slider is a bit loose already...Unless you ask the shop to let you try a few sets of N80 until u are satisfied with the tightness of the slider, but i guess the shop ppl will give u a very dark face tongue.gif...Anyhow, they will still be a bit loose. Personally i like the tightness of the sliding after i applied the trick, just personal preferences, you might not like it smile.gif

Well, the price of the N80 had not move for a very long time though..Staying at the 1.7k mark for quite some time now (AP set i mean)..Darn, still too expensive for me to own one.Maybe due to the problem of not having a successor to lower down the price...Anyway, any idea a successor of the N80 will appear?

If you want longer lasting battery life.. u will have to ask yourself this question.

Do u need 3g connection most of the time? If YES, then I guess buying a spare battery is the only way forward.

If the answer is NO, then, you can switch your Network Connection from DUAL to only GSM. This way, your phone do not need to constantly search between 3G and GSM network when you go from places to places. This way, your battery life will be conserved and last longer.

Unless you are talking about pre-models. Those testing units. Because the official launch date is Q1 next year.

If its the pre-models, it will be the same case the earlier batch of N80's. I personally know someone who has the early version of a N80, and it sucks big time. Lots of software problem and he says it frequently hangs on him.

So yeh, keep us updated on ur 'dealer's' N95. If its good, will definitely buy one.

Hi, I have a problem with my Nokia N80.

It tends to lag up when sending texts after a few months. It happened once, I sent it to the shop, they reformatted it and it was fine again. I cannot be arsed to send it to the shop again so I was wondering if anyone knows how to reformat the phone themselves?

The N80 is the biggest, smelliest, steaming pile of wank ever.

Nobody said you can't.

But IN CASE you stuff it up, guess what? You freaking brick your 2k phone. So would you rather leave it to them, or take the risk doing it urself?

I know i wouldn't, when it is done for FREE.

The solution is simple, you don't actually have to format your phone. Install Nokia SMS Accelerator from Nokia N80 Support Page.

Nokia has this new thing called Nokia Software Update. Read up this thread a few pages back before deciding on whether you would want to update the phone yourself. I did mine and it went well, but there is a possibility your phone may hang up. As far as I'm concerned, it'll all go well if you read the instructions and follow them properly.

Cool! I didn't know my N80 has the capability to omit odour and steam. Maybe I can choose some nice perfume scent and use it to steam-iron my shirts. Cool hidden feature, eh? Which button do I press?

My N80 has a slight defect. The right softkey and the green dial button is not properly put into place. The whole keypad seems to be fixed more to the left of the phone. This causes the right side of the keypad to be loose and would certainly come out if it gets prick with minor force. My original waranthy is still available...does it cover for it? How long would they get it fixed?

I certainly did not hear of anything like this before you told us so...i think your set might be an AP set imported from some middle east country like europology has already stated. Why don't you bring the phone back to the shop where you purchase it and ask them why.

If your set is an original set, just get it to one of the authorized service center and get it fixed. i believed it is covered under the warranty.

on my previous phone nokia 6230, i could display da phone numbers under my contacts name in the Phonebook section.

i've browse all options but it seems N80 doesnt have that option to show phone numbers besides da names. Dunno y, cos I always like to have a look at da number before making a call or sending sms. heh heh.... wish it could be done on da N80.

Yup, normally you send back to the shop, and the shop would take your phone to service center. Some service centre would not entertain customers where they only entertain dealer. If they did entertain to customer, then straight away bring your sets to service centre would be alot faster. wink.gif

Erm, if your sets still under warranty, I would suggest you not to service it at other place as it might void your warranty. wink.gif

Yup, normally you send back to the shop, and the shop would take your phone to service center. Some service centre would not entertain customers where they only entertain dealer. If they did entertain to customer, then straight away bring your sets to service centre would be alot faster. wink.gif

Erm, if your sets still under warranty, I would suggest you not to service it at other place as it might void your warranty. wink.gif
*
Erm... so does it mean that it is not recommended to get an AP set for this phone since we always need to upgrade to a newer version software & if unfortunately the set is faulty or whatsoever will cost expensive charge by sending it to other shops.

Btw, anyone has the latest price for N80? What is the original & AP set price? Differ a lot? rclxub.gif

i bought mine from Sg, there's no such thing as AP or oris there. All phones are from Nokia and all warranties covered by Nokia. heck u can even buy any phone from there and tell da dealers not to fill in da warranty. U can have pretty much an unlimited warranty til da first time u sent in ur phone for repairs.

But FYI< u can now update ur phone online by urself.

But locally, AP is going for bout RM1600 and oris for about Rm2300.

Check a few forummers price list, Amedion etc.

Can anyone tell me how to check phone battery effiency? These days starting few days back my N80 battery seems to be very weak although i fully charged it. I tested by not making calls and the battery could last around 1 day and few hours in standby mode. I however still receive calls but for short time only. Last time i could leave my phone in standby maybe 2-3 days. But now only 1 day and a few hours. Feeling worried now. Anyone experiencing such incident too?

Thanks.

i'm planning to get one, either N73 or N80. Any comments? I like the style of N80, juz the camera functions do not attract me. How is N80's camera compares to N73?

n80's 3.0 MP camera is nothing much to shout about. looks good on da phone but once da pic is uploaded on da PC, its horrible.

if u like da N80 all rounded abilities then N80 is for u. IF not get any phone but da N80 if u da camera matters a lot to u.

seems like not many are using N80 now judging the activeness of this thread.

Anyway, can N80 support up to 2GB memory card? How's the performance? Compare to 1GB?

Yes,Sure is real u can call my handphone and double confirm with me lah!
but the respondent must at least 18 years old 1st.
Second, the respondent must owns the N80 at least 1 month.
because we must scan through the respondents 1st and see whether they can qualify our minimum requirements and invite them to come for the FGD.

Thank you.

My..my.. my.. its up to ur preferance la kawan! Currently my gf is using N80 as well which I've brought last time in Brunei since during that time Malaysia Nokia yet still didn't bring it to our shore. Until now I can consider it is as a great phone.. Unlike my N93 (lag..auto-restart..firmware yet still has not been updated..bla..bla..). Full of functionality currently. But yet if it still not enough for U, wait for N95 then! *sigh*

I take a picture it puts them in a couple of folders with the date being the folder name.

Right I just took a picture n its created these folders on the memory card, heres the path:

E:\Images\200611\200611A0\Image016.jpg

Anyone have the same things? Btw my .avi player unable to scan for .avi file format.

nasi_lemak
Question 1:
Its depends on the file format. If the file format is .mp4 or 3gp can use realplayer. If the file format such as .avi you need 3rd party software such as 'Smartmoive' or 'Divx Player'.

Question 2:
No idea. Haven't try play .RM file format.

Question 3:
N80 bundled with awesome web browser. The browser under My Own folder name 'Web'

dantwt
N80 don't have build-in 3.5mm stereo jack, anyway its suppose come with 3.5mm stereo jack adapter.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have search through the Nokia site and I found some new Nokia software for the N80 Internet Edition. I have downloaded them and install them in my N80, works fine rclxms.gif . If you guys interested, here are the links to download them. I will put the link in the 1st page as well.

There are 2 new software by Nokia for the N80 Internet Edition:
1. WLAN Wizard - Click Here
2. Nokia Podcasting - Click Here

Enjoy!

Podcasts
are regular digital audio or video broadcasts that can be downloaded and played on mobile devices and personal computers. News agencies and other sources offer podcasts on a wide range of topics. Often podcasts are regularly updated in a series of new episodes, so users often subscribe to their favourite shows.

The Nokia Podcasting application allows you to find, subscribe to and download podcasts over the air with your Nokia N80. After downloading a podcast, you can listen to or watch it when you want.

You can choose whether the Podcasting application uses Wireless LAN (requires WLAN network access) or GPRS/WCDMA packet data (requires a packet data plan) to download podcasts to your Nokia N80.

Hello, i have some problem with my n80 here. I not sure whether is it all n80 having this problem or only mine.

My problem is only about the camera, otherwise, n80 ROCKS!

Photos taken by my camera get very very low quality even i had tried in 3mp, 2mp, and 1.3mp. All bad in resolutions. If take near image, it would be sometimes clear, if take a image from ur spot to 5-10 meter spot, the picture getting really blur, not clear at all.. if take long distance shot, like from my 6 floors apartment to ground, the picture not blur yet not clear as well, the quality not realistic..

The screen very very noisy when camera mode activated under even a little dark situation, photos taken, of course, noisy and blur under dark situations..

So as the video mode, if take video under even a little dark situation, the video quality really........

I did compared with my fren's 3230(1.2mp camera), the photos taken even far far clearer than my n80 does.. I went to gsmarena for the camera review, downloaded some of the sample photos taken by their n80, some a bit blur, but mostly clear..

As all i mentioned above, do not judge the clear-nest or blur-nest by ur n80's screen. Transfer it into ur good resolution PC's monitor, and judge it.

About the noise, u may judge directly from the screen of ur n80 if u take some photos under dark situation..

Now i started to regret to sold my W800i as it has good music player, good camera, good sound output, only the screen too small and lack of symbian OS.

Anyway, n80 still a very very very good phone if camera been neglected and have good battery life.

It has cool wifi that enable me to surf net, any website i used to surf when i using my laptop.

Download speed as fast as how fast the modem supports.

Cool html and xhtml viewer.

Cool and high class outlook(for silver cuz shinnyy).

Eye catching sliding phone(but eye catching phone means dangerous phone =p)

Not bad keypad with a lot of short cut key

Supa dupa display

Quite fast responds

Overall, perfect phone if the camera, low battery life, and springless sliding been neglected

At the end, just hope to get some responds from all n80 users, do ur n80 having same problem as mine? Pm me if can...

Thanks all!

Hey people. I've got a N80 too, and it rocks! Luv the speed, display, and wifi. Size is a lil small for my large hands though...

I just updated to the latest version via Nokia Software Updater i downloaded from the Nokia UK site last night. Haven't tested it enough.. but I found that after I restore the backup, the programs i installed prior to updating are gone, like autolock, agile, etc.

I want to ask if anybody uses any messengers on their N80. Agile messenger works like a charm, but it has a 7-day limit sad.gif so I'm looking for cheaper alternatives. I tried to install Live messenger for MSN and Yahoo Go! but both of them doesn't work on my Digi WAP. It comes out with a unable to connect to server error for both. I won't be able to try for Wifi until monday at work. Anybody has a cheaper way for messenger? 'illegal' methods are not preferred, but it is good information to know... cool.gif

notworthy.gif Thanks! notworthy.gif

P.S. Add me in the user list!! Thanks! notworthy.gif

im not sure if my solution will work, but in text messages settings.. you can change the memory in use to save in memory card, but after using the memory card to save the messages.. i cant use the data cable to transfer songs/ etc.. anymore. so maybe its the same prob as you.. try to change the memory in use to phone memory.
