can anyone answer these questions :
1) Has anyone done diy firmware update with the nikia software???
2)any dangers or things i have to keep in mind while using the software so tat i dont brick my phone??
*
I've just updated my phone firmware using the updater tool, but i got it from Nokia Asia... I guess it's the same as the nokia uk version above...

Anyways, it was a pretty easy thing to do.... not as time consuming compared to the 2hr wait u gotta endure if upgrading at nokia's service centres...

All i had to do was:
1. download the Nokia Software Updater program (15.9mb)
2. install the program
3. backup phone memory into memory card
4. connect phone via usb
5. update the firmware..... (The Nokia Software Updater would detect the phone model, and then download the latest firmware available... The firmware for nokia n80 is 72mb.. this took less than 15mins... and then it proceeded to install the firmware, which took about another 5-10mins)
6. restore phone memory from memory card to phone

easy easy!!... haha...

For jwai85's question #4, just read the Phone Update FAQ from nokia's support website carefully and follow the instructions given while updating the firmware... basically the most important thing to do is backup ur phone memory, and don't disconnect/switch off the phone while updating the firmware.... Its advisable that ur phone is fully charged before updating the firmware, but mine wasn't... heheh... still had about 5/6 bars so i just proceeded... updating the firmware consumed about 1 bar....

Now my phone's firmware is
v4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
rm-92
nokia n80 (11)

It's only necessary to download the Nokia Software Updater once, so for future updates just connect the phone and the program will download the latest firmware..

Kayint,
u need to be logged in as the computer administrator in order 2 b able 2 install NSU & update the firmware..

check ur winxp account settings at control panel>user accounts
if u're using a limited user/guest account u need 2 log out & re-login using admin account..

p/s: im typing this reply on my N80..no more out of memory probs! Woohoo! I can also zoom in pix easily without freezing the phone.. To those who haven't updated to v4 firmware, do it quick! ;D

so wat can i do now ??

Owh... I'm not too sure about this, but your current account may be the normal administrator account... U might need to login into the main computer administrator account, which is hidden....If u wanna give it a shot, check out
1. http://www.petri.co.il/add_the_administrat...n_in_xp_pro.htm or
2. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm

Hope this helps...

Check with u guys, 4.0623.0.41 version WLAN stable?

Ver 4.0623.041

So far it's been stable for me thumbup.gif .. The major bugs that bothered me in the v3 firmware was the insufficient memory while browsing the net & inability to zoom into the pics in the gallery... Both these bugs are fixed so I'm happy rclxms.gif

As for the problems mentioned by polo78 in the nokia forum, i used wlan for about 1 1/2 hrs last night on the phone and it worked fine... I'm not using the rss feeder so can't comment on that....

can i where i can download the arcobat reader for my N80?? can i hv the link???
*
There's several options that i can suggest:
1. U can update your phone firmware using the nokia software updater and Adobe Reader LE 1.5 comes with it...

2. Download the adobe reader for nokia E series here. It works fine on N80

3. Download a third party application to read pdf files here. Quite a number of N80 discussion boards link to this application, so i guess it works...

I'd suggest u go for option 1 or 2, as the apps are certified by nokia....

yeah the update works for both authorized distibutor & ap phones... it just doesn't work with sim-locked phones, which thankfully we don't get in malaysia biggrin.gif

I've done 3updates using the NSU - my n80(i-mobile), my sister's n70(ap) & my mum's e70(avaxx)... all successful, just follow the instructions closely and monitor your phone throughout the update progress... thumbup.gif

It tends to lag up when sending texts after a few months. It happened once, I sent it to the shop, they reformatted it and it was fine again.
*
The solution is simple, you don't actually have to format your phone. Install Nokia SMS Accelerator from Nokia N80 Support Page.

QUOTE(nyg @ Nov 2 2006, 07:10 PM)
I was wondering if anyone knows how to reformat the phone themselves?
*
Nokia has this new thing called Nokia Software Update. Read up this thread a few pages back before deciding on whether you would want to update the phone yourself. I did mine and it went well, but there is a possibility your phone may hang up. As far as I'm concerned, it'll all go well if you read the instructions and follow them properly.

The N80 is the biggest, smelliest, steaming pile of wank ever.

Cool! I didn't know my N80 has the capability to omit odour and steam. Maybe I can choose some nice perfume scent and use it to steam-iron my shirts. Cool hidden feature, eh? Which button do I press?
