can anyone answer these questions :
1) Has anyone done diy firmware update with the nikia software???
2)any dangers or things i have to keep in mind while using the software so tat i dont brick my phone??
I've just updated my phone firmware using the updater tool, but i got it from
Nokia Asia... I guess it's the same as the nokia uk version above...
Anyways, it was a pretty easy thing to do.... not as time consuming compared to the 2hr wait u gotta endure if upgrading at nokia's service centres...
All i had to do was:
1. download the Nokia Software Updater program (15.9mb)
2. install the program
3. backup phone memory into memory card
4. connect phone via usb
5. update the firmware..... (The Nokia Software Updater would detect the phone model, and then download the latest firmware available... The firmware for nokia n80 is 72mb.. this took less than 15mins... and then it proceeded to install the firmware, which took about another 5-10mins)
6. restore phone memory from memory card to phone
easy easy!!... haha...
For
jwai85's question #4, just read the
Phone Update FAQ from nokia's support website carefully and follow the instructions given while updating the firmware... basically the most important thing to do is backup ur phone memory, and don't disconnect/switch off the phone while updating the firmware.... Its advisable that ur phone is fully charged before updating the firmware, but mine wasn't... heheh... still had about 5/6 bars so i just proceeded... updating the firmware consumed about 1 bar....
Now my phone's firmware is
v4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
rm-92
nokia n80 (11)
It's only necessary to download the Nokia Software Updater once, so for future updates just connect the phone and the program will download the latest firmware..
