Hi,

I am planning to improve the looks of my teeth by wearing braces. So can anyone of you LYN forumers introduce any good dentists or othodontic who charge reasonably? I know it isn't cheap, but at least I would like to have quality services over what I've paid for.

Thanks a lot.

For those who looking to do the teeth bracelet (orthodonist, thanks Mod for the spelling thumbup.gif ), i think the age is kind of a factor too, as when you are younger, it is better to have the teeth bracelet done other than at late 20's or 30's. This is just my personal point of view lar..... I had mine done at the age of 15~16 and it took me about 18 months to fully take it out. So if you ask me now at the age of 25 go to do the bracelet. I will not do it for the beauty, but if do it for the health of your teeth as the bad arrangement of your teeth will deeply effect your teeth health, because it will tend to have holes everywhere.

for me, last time i did it for SGD600 (convert to RM around 1200-1300) when i was back in brunei and it was in the general hospital, if i remember correctly, age doesn't seemed to be the factor...

i had my braces on for 2 years, then i used retainers for another year before i took them all out completely...

if all your milk teeth had already fall off and u have a complete set of pernament teeth, then it's the right time to go for braces...

I did mine back in Sabah around year of 1997 and i'm freaking sure it is rm500 or maybe less like rm300. It would not hit over rm1k.

yes yes... you are true, i place my appointment for 3 years before they called me up to start doing the teeth. Place at form 1 (initially i never know what the heck is this and i just follow my coursin sister to place the appointment.) They only started to call me when i was on form 4. I think that's why it costed me RM500, or 300 only. Wait for 3 years long.

Yup, government hospitals will take an insanely long time. Also depends whether they consider your case "medically interesting". That was what i got when i asked around at UMMC. Private practitioners will charge you anything from 3k to 5k++. Depends on the severity of the case and the orthodontist in question. More experienced ones will be able to charge higher, since you're paying for him not to screw up your teeth. Good idea not to skimp on this, since it's going to be for a lifetime

all i can say about the orthodontist treatment is "pain". No joking and it is freaking pain for the first time wear the bracelet the first week, i was not able to eat a tofu either for the first time. And if you accidentally bite your own lips, the inner skin of your lips will be wide open up like cutting through by meat blender. I still the remember the taste of blood and the amount of blood coming out of my mouth.

you a girl?

as far as i know, first day i couldnt give a damn about the pain eat every damn thing. even after tightening still..ok. so in my whole 3 years of wearing braces i eat everything, resulting to a few extra trips to repair it. you cant eat toufu? damn must be serious or you need to start being more pain tolerant.

the only irritating part is when the braces accidently cuts you, from sports or what soo ever. it hurts like mad for a while but the latter blood taste in your mouth really sucks. but never like the way you claim to be wei, most even after a sharp elbow to the jaw i get a swollen lip for a couple of days and well minor bleeding.

Hahaha, can't help but laugh at all the posts . . .

Anyways . . . I'm 28F and I've been wearing braces for exactly 6 months and 2 days (Yes, I keep count).

I'm getting mine done in Taman Tun. The place is called Sarah Orthodontic and its somewhere between Pizza Hut and Bank Islam (or near Mohsin if you are familiar with TTDI). Very friendly people there and IMHO very experienced too.

Price? RM 4000 for metal braces or RM 6000 for ceramic ones. You pay 50% up front and the rest in 10 months installments. You also have to pay additional RM300 in the beginning for the xrays and they also make mouldings of your teeth. If you only want to do one row of teeth then its half of the overall price (makes perfect sense right?).

I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend who has a cousin who did her braces at UH and she had to wait 2 years! No thank you, I rather pay than wait 2 years.

And here is my experience as an "older" person wearing braces - its not that bad and its hardly painful at all. Sure, it takes some time getting used to and yes my teeth gets a bit sore after every adjustment, but after a while I don't even think about it anymore.

Why am I wearing braces at this age? I'm getting married next year and my future husband has got BEAUTIFUL teeth!!! biggrin.gif But now he doesn't want to kiss me anymore and he keeps calling me metal mouth!! cry.gif

Hi. I did mine in 1995 (during my 6th form days) in SS2, besides Affin Finance. Its Dr Low Teong Ortho. Very senior and very good. My 2 front teeth then was almost 45deg outwards sweat.gif Cant even eat "wat-kai"! cry.gif Sau-Nga-Chai I was. Now, handsome already..and my frens then were surprise to see me change so much! laugh.gif

And at my age then, he still manage to perfect my teeth thumbup.gif
Took me about 3 years to have a 90% perfect look.

Dont worry abt the money. Each time you go, will charge you that amount of dental charges, not RM2 to RM3k upfront.

First visit, you will need to do xray. He does it for you also.
Then do a mould and make recoomendations
Then, need to extract teeth that blocks yr way. (I had 2 nice teeth taken!)
Then abt once a month need to see him, spend about RM50 to RM200, depending on what he did la. Most of the time he just tighten the bracelet a bit, so cost abt RM35+-
He also keeps your teeth clean and white!

One word of caution, this doctor has a nasty temper. Well known among other doctors...hehe..but besides his temperament, he is dem good!

Each time my braces got tightened, at nite sure pain as you feel the tension in yr teeth. Few days later only gone.
But the most irritating thing is, sometimes there this piece of wire thats scraping yr mouth, can cause ulser man.
Besides, never eat noodles or foods that can twirl around yr braces. this includes chewing gum!

you dont feel the pain? That's why you need to wear 3 years, mine done in 1.5 years. Imagine that you accidentally bite your lower inner lips and you lips get stuck and mix together with the bracelet and let the bracelet scar there. LOL!

i wear them 3 years cause i skip tons of appointments...by defult only 2. then again i had the pain, but i didnt give a damn.. first day needed some getting used to but i still went eating normally.

bitting my lower lip was like the last of my worries, but that wouldnt leave a scar. a large tear in the lip perhaps that makes it swollen and a huge blister later with a slight scar like hole which will heal fast. i was quite active in sports, far as i know got elbowed and "makan bola" a number of times......even the worse case which had me spitting brown bloody sliva for a min or less resulted to a blister and a swollen lip only. there was a hole when it was bleeding but no where as scary as you describe it.

far as i know, it didnt strike me as painful, more uncomfortable as the pain was bearable. some of my cousins and friends needed their food blended which i never understood. me? i was eating everything...doing everything...cept for gum which the doc told me to keep off. of course you dont go xiao and eat something super hard the day you tighten or put it...but far as i know normal stuff was perfectly fine.

Hmm, nope..all in place. I think u need to go back to yr doc again.

My lower teeth still have this wire stuck to it, at the back

By right, i should have remained consistent in seeing the doc, but i got lazy once when my upper set of teeth got straightened out.

Guess i should make a visit again.

Any of you guys here know where can do the amalgam removal and how much will it cost for each teeth? I want to replace my amalgam refill with composite.

The pain is really exaggerated. It depends on the condition of your teeth and the age you start your orthodontic treatment. Mine was practically pain-free, only a sore mouth, the first week. Then, a few irritating nights after tightening; not much pain to shout about really. I would say the pain would come from extracting your teeth (if you need it) before getting the treatment. If you're keen for a decent smile and a healthy bite, nothing would be a problem. The results I must say would be the most satisfying, and you would soon forget how you went through those "painful"-bloodsucking moments.

I am wearing braces now just turned 23M. I started wearing it first week of May this year. I am only expected to wear it for 12-15 months so just another 6-9 months to go.

I am doing mine at Teh Orthondontics with Dr. Teh Leok Hui. It is at Desa Sri Hartamas. Cost is RM3000+ for metal braces and RM5000+ for asthetic braces. I go for the asthectic braces paid half up front and RM200 every visit for adjustment. Other cost is RM200 for moulding and x-ray and later another RM700 for the retainer once the braces is taken out.

I also took out all 4 of my wisdom tooth before I started the braces treatment, which I did with Dr. Ling at The Bouelavard ner Mid Valley, 4 wisdom tooth cost RM3200 with Intravenoues Sedation.

My experience so far, first 2 weeks after the braces is put in is not so comfortable, and might have trouble eating. But after that life is normal, I EAT EVERYTHING dun care. I broke my braces twice have to go back and glue back. That was 3 months ago. After re-glue back twice never happen again. Even during adjustment for me only pain during dinner time that day. So it is no problem at all. I am glad I did it.

I ate what I usually eat on the first few days. No porridge or blended foods for me. I only felt a bit uncomfortable with the braces on. The pain was only when I had to pull 2 teeth out to create space. Argh... My dentist gave me a booklet with all the do's and dont's so I just followed that

I also had undergone the treatment more than few years ago, cannot remember much of the year in a private clinic after I cannot wait under the waiting list from the goverment clinic.

Whole treatment costs RM3400+RM200 as my severity was very high. RM200 for 4 teeth extractions so the other teeth has space to go in, upper 2 and lower 2 teeth. Normal conventional braces was given to me that time and I did not actually feel the pain but just numbness, feeling of tightening... and have to cut or make food into smaller pieces in order to swallow or eat, cannot even chewing. Visit specialist once per month that time to check on the progress and oral hygiene, during treatment, teeth tend to get dirty quicker as normal brushing was less effective during treatment.

After 2 years time and now wearing retainer for whole life (advised by doctor) during sleeping time. Now not only I can chew properly and also close mouth properly but also nicer smile and people commented that look alot better than before.

a colleague of mine did her teeth whitening in a place called the Smile Clinic ( i think) in the Curve, Petaling Jaya. It cost about rm1400 if i am not mistaken (should be around that amount la) but only took like 1 hour or something. She showed me a before and after picture of her teeth. Looked very nice indeed, altho i did not say that, in actual fact, it didn't make that much of a difference in her appearance because her teeth were not like yellow or whatever in the first place. hehe.

Anyone know if Invisalign is available in Malaysia? I would consider my case to be severe too, but i dunno for sure...need to ask dentist. If not, where is the cheapest (but reliable!) place to get conventional braces? Thanks!!

hey all, I just had mine put in 2 weeks ago, cost was RM2500 at the smile clinic in the curve. I must say, the experience so far is pretty painful. I couldnt eat anything solid for 2 weeks now. As an example, I couldnt even chew on fried eggs or maggi mee, but its getting better these few days to the point where I can start eating fried noodles now. The doctor said the initial pain is normal as the titanium braces are making my teeth loose.

Metal type. I think so, but the current cost of treatment inclusive of the braces and accessories I am not too sure. My case, slight pain to numbness initially for the first 2 weeks, later on, will feel better. Teeth extractions hurt abit not to the extent of severe pain after the pain killer effect subsided.

Good luck ! Initially suffering... soon, you will feel alot better but have to take extra precaution when eating and brushing.

hi quick-shaq,

i dont think it works that way, cause if u pull out only two teeth, it will cause wrong bite (ie: more upper teeth than lower teeth) which is a problem in itself. maybe if u r lucky, no need to pull out any teeth! :-)

You dont necessary have to extract any teeth for braces, it depends, I didnt. But then I had my lower left and upper right wisdom tooth extracted before I wanted braces.

Actually, invisalign cost much more than traditional braces.

And it is only suitable for those that have minor teeth problem. It take longer to see result, some said forever. sad.gif

Why not try Ceramic braces ?? I also will wear braces using my own money soon after I will get dental consultation though all my family members said my teeth is OK.... Who carss, its my money & my teeth... See how first la, considering ceramic braces, though some peope said metal braces was stronger...

You gotta wear it for longer period especially when you just took your braces off. Cuz once the pressure is off, your teeth starts moving. That is why u need to put on the retainers to maintain the shape.

The reason why you find it difficult to put your upper retainers on could be due to the fact tht your jaw structure has moved. Normally suggested by the doctor you wear your retainers on for 24hrs until the movement becomes stable.

Suggest you go to your doctor and tell him your problem. He will adjust it for you and you should be fine. But make sure u wear it all the time for the first 2 months.

Extractions with straight roots are not painful at all. Those with crab claw style roots will hurt abit as pressure is required to pull em out..sometimes surgery required with BIG roots.

I am planning to improve the looks of my teeth by wearing braces. So can anyone of you LYN forumers introduce any good dentists or othodontic who charge reasonably? I know it isn't cheap, but at least I would like to have quality services over what I've paid for.

Thanks a lot.

In Bandar Baru Bangi area, I suggest Dr Lita Alis (or Lisa? Can't remember. They both have clinics there but either one is dentist. Lisa & Lita are twins). Lita/Lisa is SOO friendly! And they have the cheapest price I know in Bangi (maybe there are cheaper out there but from what I know, it's Dr Lita/Lisa Alis). It's around RM3k.

stupid question: can teeth become too fragile for braces? after coming to page 4, so geli with these info.

what if doc pulls out those gigi geraham? then biting would be cacat lor... hahahaha...
*
getting braces isn't as scary as you thought actually, so relax laugh.gif

i got 4 of my molars extracted. biting won't be a huge problem because the rest of the teeth will eventually move to occupy the "missing space" (teeth that were extracted) a couple of months or so after putting on braces.

i'm currently putting on retainers but it sucks that they don't fit my teeth anymore. even no matter how i adjust them they just tend to fall off again.. can't wait to see my ortho to fix this problem tongue.gif

i'm thinking to have braces as well. my area is somewhere nearby Old Klang Road. any recommendation? Had visit Sim and Hooi Dental b4 for some normal dental checking. their service is quite good, dentist is friendly enough, but the price is slightly high.

i'm 24F, hmm.. seems like alot of ppls have their braces around these age. haha.. i was so worry i'm too old to have braces! but now.. worry-free~~

So for those that had brances or having braces, can u guys speak clearly like normal? especially when u pronounce "S" "H" "F"... my job need to talk everyday on the phone.. so i'm quite concern on this as well.. any opinion?

oh, please do so, DoOgi3... i used to go to a dentist near the majestic during my school days but find it very expensive.

so if can find one that allows instalment, then it'll be great.

May i know any government dental hospital will accept my case again o i hv to wait long to be brace again ?
If private how much will it cost for the whole session ?

Between only my 2 front teeths which is not tidy only.its not that serious but i wish to do again.

I know there's crowning and caps... but they cost a lot..
I was quoted about RM600-RM800 per tooth..

anywhere can find cheaper and also good service?

Hi,
as far as i know, only MyDentist clinic in Jalan Ipoh, KL offers Invisalign system in Malaysia. The dentist(s) are required to attend training before they are allow to perform the procedure. Other dental clinics do offer but they 'sub' the construction to them. Checkout the website www.mydentist.com.my

And yes, its more costly than conventional metal braces. But the appearance is really astounding. No one will realise u r wearing one unless he/she kisses u. but then, by that time he/she probably won't mind u r wearing one, right? tongue.gif

And for the ceramic braces, u will still be able to see the metal part. the main titanium wire cannot be replaced so ther'll still be a line of metal across ur teeth. Only the metal brackets r changed to colourless (or tooth-coloured) ceramics. So u'll be appearing as though u r wearing the retainer...

The "rubber bands" are known as elastics and they put further pressure and move the teeth in a slightly different direction which the wires (called the archwire) on their own wouldn't be able to do.

i think if u do in government, should be very cheap by itself....the only problem is you'll be put on a very long waiting list.

go to the clinic and ask.

those who wants to do braces, do not waste your time waiting on the government list -.-" i first registered my name on the waiting list during mid year 2008 (i was 14). I was called back to 'ukur gigi' last february and when my mum asked how long for the next appointment the nurse said a year.

tired of waiting, my parents decided to go do at private clinic. Had 4 pre-molars extracted. Each tooth costs rm50. Overall is rm5000++

so now i'm a brace-face for approximately 3 week. Gonna go to my first tightening next week. kinda scared -.-"

my orthodontist is really gentle to me so no "extreme" pain just a bit soreness smile.gif

Did mine at RM300 nett. Waited for 2 years (wait at form1 and started at form 3). Every month needs to go back for tightening and adjustment. Done in 18 months time.

Is it true that now they have this program for kids? The doctor will plan for the teeth the way it grow, in the way that they will take out some of teeth and do some adjustment with braces. But all these done when the kids are still very young age with the initial teeth (gigi susu). So after proper arrangement on the initial teeth, the rest of the adult teeth will grow out naturally? Because i personally saw my friend's teeth, and her teeth is SUPERB SUPERB beautiful, and perfectly symmetry without any flaws, as if like in the cartoon or comic. I consider mine near perfect and kind of look fake. But after saw hers, i feel like i should redo the braces again. Again, hers cost a big bomb, i think around rm7000~8000 at 10~15 years back, she is a rich kid anyway.

Any of you heard of this before?

I had my braces done last year around June and the result is AMAZING! My teeth naturally are lesser than normal ppl..(my upper part: usually normal ppl got 4 gigi kacip but i only have 2 and the other 2 look exactly like gigi taring but that 2 were pulled out and never grow any since then..so,that area were empty)To summarize it, on the left : gigi kacip follow by empty space then only gigi taring and the rest...it`s same on the right...
I have a question here...My upper teeth got 2 gaps, 1 on the right the other 1 on the left...all other parts very close to each other d(can say ok d) just left that 2 gaps..i maybe need to go overseas to pursue my education this coming July or end of June. Is there any way to make the tightening process faster and cheaper? My dentist told me he can do a bridge, if not mistaken..to make the pulling process faster but it costs me around RM2 700...sigh...every month i see got improvement la..the gaps getting smaller and smaller..but i scared the gaps wont be entirely closed by June..any idea how???
Thanks smile. smile.gif

I did my braces in 2006 when I was in Form 1 due to overbite. I opted for the Damon System Self-Ligating Braces which cost about RM5000 total but my dad's company covered the cost.

Every month will go for checkup and tightening as well snipping off the 'extra wire' that is left after your teeth aligns itself closer and closer.

Had only 2 premolars extracted! Braces are removed last year when I was Form 3. Results are satisfying!

I thought of extracting my wisdom teeth which are visible and the other half part embedded in the gum. So I guess that should be painful. Another big problem that I need to face is the pain effect after the extraction. I know that there will be medicine i.e antibiotics and painkillers given to ease the pain. But I am intolerant to painkillers, in another word, I am allergic to it? Do you guys have this problem?

i did braces before when i was about Form 3 to form 5 at government clinic. n ya the doc kind of sucks.if i noe earlier i would have opted for another doc since there r two orthodontics at the clinic. my fren did at the same place under another doc n till now her teeth looks sooo nice. dang...

oh ya. i didnt remove any tooth at all (because i was soo scared of losing good tooth last time) n the doctor actualy was ok with it! my gosh..i mean i was so noob last time n i tot if i din pull out any tooth it would be ok for me. eventually i have kind of straight teeth..but only for a while. then one of my tooth (that was actually behind some other tooth) gradually went shift back (almost to its normal position) and now i cant even be bothered to go back to do braces already.

n when im wearing my retainer half way, my gums kind of got unhealthy..n the dentist told me stop wearing it n took it back already.thats when the tooth start moving back. i don think i want to go through all the pain n misery of wearing braces anymore...i think im just contented with my teeth now...i think taking real good care of my teeth is what i opt to do...

so to TS and everyone else..do a good survey first around to find out the best orthodontics around..n i think if i had the chance to turn back time, i would have begged my parents to bring me to a private one...

anyway good luck smile.gif

usually if one tooth is out of place, retainers will do.

are you still a student in a gov school? It's much cheaper to make the retainers/bracers from a gov clinic.

i had mine frm the dental clinic in Cahaya Suria building right in the middle of KL opposite Menara Maybank for RM100 (private clinic would've cost RM3k!!).

But that was nearly 20 yrs ago la lol.

Am curious is it possible not to make the teeth line up too "perfect"? Coz it looks good but not natural at all. I know it won't be good to their reputation but...

Also do we really need to remove few tooth in order to line them up nicely?

Hi everyone. I'm wearing braces but I'm not satisfy with my teeth. Ever since I put on this braces, I find that my jaws have been aligned into so cacat!
The doctor says for my case, I only need to wear braces for 3 - 5 months. But now it drags to nearly 2 years because I skipped my appointment day. But then again, I notice the doctor delayed my treatment in a way that sometimes my appointment is just for cleaning the braces + teeth but at times, is just for checking my teeth and that's it. I did not question her much as she seems to have a lot of patient and she doesn't have much patience with people. I would say my current doctor doesn't allow me to remove my braces just yet. So I'll try not to remind her about what she told me about the removal of my braces after 3 - 5 months as promised.

Now I've decided to remove my braces else where. So does anyone know where can go about to remove my braces? and what are the charges like?

preferably Subang area, or where do you guys suggest?

thanks in advance!

I'm also having same problem with you. I'd already wearing braces for 3 years and my doctor still doing adjustment for my teeth.

But I'm having difficulty to clean my teeth well even with Ortho and inter dental toothbrush. My lower front teeth had became shorter (in order to have same height with other teeth) causing the braces approaching my gum. It is hard to brush that area and this could easily cause bleeding. Braces has also caused odor in my mouth. Although the overall of my teeth had improve a lot, but I wonder why lower part of my molar teeth (attached with braces 'ring') become 'senget'. I try to ask for removal of braces but my doctor also didn't allow to.

I was also thinking of remove braces at somewhere else but I heard that dentist are not allow to accept patient (to remove braces) who are under orthodontic service from other dentist.

haha there's a thread for teeth brace ya?

I'm also wearing teeth brace, for a year now... had 4 teeth extracted too, but i feel the upper 2 teeth shouldn't be extracted coz i feel there were enough space... Now there's still these 2 big gap up there... Are these gaps really will be filled up eventually? the doc got ask me to put on the elastic as well, but for months, i feel the gaps are still the same....

and during last appointment, the doc put something like a 'stopper' behind some of the teeth... now my teeth can't bite fully, really make eating difficult....

this is random.

but i really miss wearing my braces.

i had braces done when i was younger but not in kl.

and braces should only be done by orthodontist not dentist.

it'll cost a lot but you really want it to have it done well. i know pretty good orthodontist where i'm from but it'll easily cost you arnd 4-7k.

good luck looking for one though. smile.gif

Have u try government dental?
I dun think PJ area can get cheap 1 lor..

Do you to try mine? at Kuchai Lama, RM3.8k for metal braces exc teeth extraction, scaling, etc.
Is a lady dentist but her face always 'black' and din tell u not much on the details.

You have to trust her, her skill is not bad just her response very weird.

Heard that Kepong got a dental only charges rm2.8.
Anyway, all these are offer installment, should you no need take a one lump sum out. smile.gif

I'm doing government one. My teeth really... shakehead.gif. Diagonal everywhere. I already pulled out 4 teeth and will go and tie them up on the 19th of Nov.

I had to wait around 2 years. But it is only RM 700 instead of a few k.

I did my braces in late Form 1 (2006) and it was removed in early Form 3 (2008). I opted for the Damon System 'Self-Ligating' braces.

http://www.damonbraces.com/

It costed nearly RM5,000, but my dad's company paid half of it under medical expenses.. or something like that.

Sorry for this late reply, but here's two clinics that I know provide Damon System braces (both clinics are worked on by same doctor, so can alternate sweat.gif)

One is the Q-Care Dental Clinic in Taman Tun. It's in the front row facing the road that leads straight to the LDP underpass to One Utama.

Second one is.. can't remember name, but it's the only dental clinic in The Curve. It's at the topmost floor, not very far from BB Maxx clothes store.

I am planning to improve the looks of my teeth by wearing braces. So can anyone of you LYN forumers introduce any good dentists or othodontic who charge reasonably? I know it isn't cheap, but at least I would like to have quality services over what I've paid for.

Thanks a lot.

is not free..it's just cheaper and the trainee dentist will assist you and that, you need to fork out RM50 for registration, RM100 for cleaning, RM1500 for braces.

Though you save almost 50% doing outside, but at least a professional treatment

Are those normal braces or Damon ones? For cheap extractions, my dentist wrote a referral letter to a hospital and done it very dirt cheap. Just a matter of waiting for the queue, 2-3 weeks.

Not a bad price.
Must be making a lot of profit.
But I'm not interested in orthodontics.
More to endodontic & conservative.

Cheap extractions can be done in UM dental faculty.
A few bucks only.
I think register RM1 for government staff, RM5 for private.

Not a bad price.
Must be making a lot of profit.
But I'm not interested in orthodontics.
More to endodontic & conservative.

Cheap extractions can be done in UM dental faculty.
A few bucks only.
I think register RM1 for government staff, RM5 for private.

If you wish to take off braces sooner, don't eat those food which is hard or bite ice. It helps a lot.

Is it possible not to have those perfect teeth, instead have more of a natural look? Perfect teeth doesn't look natural at all.
*
If perfect teeth means ultra-white color without any stains, then maybe it will look unnatural.
When constructing dentures or crowns, a good experienced dental technician will stain & glaze them to match the other teeth.
This is cosmetic dentistry.

But "perfect" teeth alignment if done properly, will usually look natural smile.gif

I mean perfect teeth alignment, not whitening. I don't know i see many peole i can tell straight they had braces before. Coz it looks abit unatural.

I though the earlier age you do braces the more natural the teeth will look as you gum is still growing & make everything natural.

if your teeth are affecting your eating habit in some way, then it's advisable to have orthodontic treatment to correct your bite. and it's perfectly fine to do braces at this age, dont worry smile.gif

Other than cosmetic reasons, braces also improve your biting/eating. And no, its no too late, in fact, quite a number of people in their 20's do it.

morning06: my mum is 40 plus and she just got her braces few months ago.
so don't worry about it.
it's best to put in on only when your body growth is stable, i mean, not when growing tooooo rapidly lah.
unlike me, i put it on when i was around 12, took it off when i was 17.
i think i have not fully grown by then because now teeth shifted, even when i am obedient in putting on my retainers. dentist said it's because of the growing jaw and there is nothing much he can do about it.
gotta remove 4 wisdom teeth which is just yesterday to avoid further impacted movements of the teeth.
troublesome is all i can say.

I think it shouldn't cost too much. removing braces is not such a big fuss. provided the general dentist does braces or ur seeing an orthodontist. but i wanna ask, why do u wanna remove your braces? has the treatment been completed? u do have to realize that it is not your call to make. unless u just wanna stop the treatment.

I see but roughly how much does it cost to remove ? I was supposed to remove it end of 2008 but I delayed it until now .. my previous doctor went aboard to work. So from then on, I didn't went back to the clinic to seek other doctor and btw, I did mine in University Hospital. Though it was under private clinic in UH, to be honest, I don't quite favor their service. I heard lots and lots of complains during my appointments.. There's always either parents or patients that will complain about the service.. So it's really that bad. Once I was attended by one of the doctor, and she wasn't gentle like my previous doctor Emily. So yeaps, I never want my braces to be removed by them.

hi can any one recommend me a good dental clinic to get my braces done? and BTW what is the Damon system ? for my company, they do cover dental but not for braces, but after checking with my HR they say if you are going to do the braces then get the doctor to bill as crowning or some thing that would lead to that price.

My budget is about rm 3k plus.

can any one please help?

Hey, there is 3k also from doctor Who near bangsa village... 3k is the one that you see many people put colorful bracket. Trust me, that will hurt badly and takes time..

As you see my previous post, mine is "smart bracket" which cost 6k and faster process healing. I went and do some google search, i find out that mine have chip set at the bracket that able to adjust the tension itself o.O how true izit.. i dunno =/

full metal crown, maybe RM100-Rm200

porcelain fused to metal crown, about RM500

full porcelain crown, Rm1000 onwards

average price per tooth, which i've heard. price may vary according to area.

Hi,

I did it at Kuchai Lama and it can be 2-3k more expensive than the normal ones. As for PJ, you can check out the Lim Dental Surgery at SS2, same row at the Korean House, the police station and the durian buffet stalls.

Different people different, Im using damon braces also but there is pain. Its hard for one person to compare the pain because people only get one kind of braces their whole life right?nobody can tell u for sure how pain is this compared to that or which is less pain. Just the rough idea. Unless a person used 2 diff kind of brace system in his lifetime.

Damon is more expensive than the normal ones.. .and there have been clinical test that it requires less time and certainly wont be very much pain too...

As for euphoria88, i wonder if it's just for normal braces.. because the purchasing cost for Damon braces is definitely higher..

I don't think my friend is pulling my legs.. Nor I'm getting any attentions here smile.gif ..

The dentist is a Datin herself.. Wen my friend ask that time my bf was inside too (taking out his wisdom teeth which only cost RM 300 + 3 injections tongue.gif )

3k I think is "friend price".. So 3k is consider super duper cheap..?

I think I only needed upper part for my teeth (hopefully) + I'm not rich myself..

Anyone know how is the payment made..? I mean 1st time I need to pay how much ya..? biggrin.gif

I got to know from my fren who is a dentist,it require special course n skills to do braces, therefore u might found some dentist is offering a lower price compare to orthodontist, but they r not certifies to do braces...therefore for my safety n perfect smile...i opt for a certified orthodontist...so it is up to u n it gonna b ur whole life thingy...
Hmmm...abo how i feel for d braces,so far i dont feel any pain, just cant bite hard stuff...

Ask if it's Damon braces, if it is.. then it's the price. If it's the normal one, then it's overpriced.,

Well, i just listen to BFM today and there is an interview with one othodontic who have shed some light over the uses of braces.

there are actually 2 kind of braces :
1. metallic braces or non metallic braces( Braces in front of the teeth)
2. Invincible braces--Braces behind the teeth ( for those who are conscious about the use of metallic braces)

well, i am not sure about the prices and the qualities of whichever kind braces being used. but it takes years of time to take off the braces.
hmm... it sound so inconvienced sometimes to eat , brush etc...=/

which is more better? Gov over private clinics? for cost wise, i guess gov would be better. =)

My activities at the dentist prior to the braces installation:-

First visit
- Check on the teeth conditions
- Get the xray done and examine the xray for any needed teeth extraction

Second visit
- Get the teeth extraction done, if any. Wait to heal

Third visit
- Check on the teeth conditions again
- Get the mould done
- Consultation on braces requirements
- Dentist check on braces stock/make braces order via vendor

Fourth visit
- Braces installation.

The duration varies depending on yr dentist availability/surgery date appointment/healing period/braces order delivery

4k is the normal braces and 6k is the average price for damon braces. Payment is installment over the period of wearing the braces.

Helloooo.. I'm going to be the new member of the braces-carrier family laugh.gif.
It's a very difficult decision for me cos I really afraid of pain but finally decided that the pain is momentary, but the effect is gonna be a lifetime long.

I went to this *Edited, wouldnt recommend this clinic anymore, as I think it's only a so-so clinic*. Very patient n papa-like... even keep telling me "not painful one ah.. dont be nervous" as if I'm a kid lol. Make me embarass nia tongue.gif

Anyway I havent put on the braces, here's my schedules:
1. First visit - Examining the teeth and identifying which teeth needs to be extracted. Xray and taking the mould. Extraction of the first teeth (my case needs four teeth to be extracted T_T) - completed

2. Second visit and third visit - To extracted the remaining three - not completed

3. To install the braces - not completed

Going to be "boh-geh" for few weeks first then only can get the braces put-on. laugh.gif

Going to be "boh-geh" for few weeks first then only can get the braces put-on.  laugh.gif

Guys,

My next session would be putting on the separator to spare some gaps between teeth. Its the preparation for the subsequent session for putting on the braces. Anyone has done the separator and any clue if it hurts?

depends on your pain thrash hold...... normally it dhouldn't hurt but it's gonna be very irritating.... feels like food stuck between your teeth.....

putting on the braces is a different stry though..... most ppl won't be able to chew for up to 1 week as the teeth will be sore..... you will have ulcerations too.....

All the best,
Zameera

i have a bad experience with lita alis when i go for their surgical extraction of my wisdom tooth, its kinda expansive and i think if you have to choose.. better go to government clinic is far more better then cheap then lita alis...

guys.

I finally have my braces on already.

To my surprise, there's no pain AT ALL!! Just some discomfort after wearing (that there's something in the mouth) which the feeling will fade in few days time. Other than that, there's really nothing

However I think as time goes by, it might get very frustrating to wait for the braces to be taken down, cos the duration is really too long.. (2 years man!)

Reasonable price, considering that the pain was minimal.

Usually the dentist will ask for 1k for deposit and the rest can be paid by installment over the course of the treatment.

ceramics are tooth coloured so it's not that noticeable.... lingual braces is even better, can't even see it.... but it's application is limited....

lingual braces generally cost RM10k and above....

You may want to try Su Dental at Jln Kuchai Lama... I'm wearing my braces and under her treatment. You may want to enquire as the charge varies from the teeth situation.

cheapest that I know of is about RM4k.... Damon braces are similar to mini braces without the mini 'rubber bands'.... there are many types of braces in the market.... ceramic, plastic, metal, haflings and even gold..... they all basically do the same thing.... advantages over one another is not that great......

Make sure the doctor that do the braces for you is a qualified orthodontist.... lots of gp out there took short courses to do braces(couple of days training) and claim they can do it....

4k is in KL.....

Damon claim that it's faster coz it's system causes less friction.... in reality, it's not the system that determines the amount of movement but the dentist... we have to evaluate if your teeth is suitable to be moved at a faster rate....

Orthodontists don't do gp work... so if your dentist does fillings, scaling, extraction etc..... then he/she is highly likely not a specialist....

Hi,

What are the braces types available in Malaysia and the cost of each type ?

I asked one of the dentist in Ampang area :

Non Ceramic = upper and lower teeth = RM5000

Ceramic = upper and lower teeth = RM7000

I was adviced by the dentist to wear a permanent retainer after the braces has been removed.

Im looking for other dentist which offer lower prices . Any recommendation ?

Has any of u realize ur teeth become more sensitive after u put on the braces? In my case, my teeth become very very sensitive and I got tooth ache sometimes even after drinking water of indoor temperature! But doc said it happens to some people whose teeth move during the braces process.

Anyway it got better after I use the toothpaste for sensitive teeth (but still quite painful sometimes sad.gif )

now i'm 24
my lower teeth is terrible from year to year.
so i got to do again.

my suggestion is...dun do your teeth brace if your wisdom tooth is not out yet.
once it's out, the teeth may or may not be the same as after braces.

hope it can catch up before i get marry = =

haha.... that's what your dentist told you?? alot of ppl(including dentists) have this misconception about early adulthood crowding....

what happen is, our lower jaw will continue growing when the upper jaw has stopped... as the lower jaw grows, it moves forward and the lower front teeth will be obstructed by the upper front teeth... this will cause the lower front teeth to become crowded and rotated.... normally happens in late teen to early adulthood....

wisdom teeth doesn't cause anterior crowding at all..... ppl who dun have wisdom teeth or got it removed early in life will experience this crowding as well.....

you probably din wear your retainers huh?

I plan to get my braces soon from that dentist, will cost about RM4k total, including check-ups and stuff, just gonna go for the normal metal type braces,is the price considered ok?

I did mine in Sarah Orthodontics, TTDI.

RM4k = ceramic brackets-braces
RM1k = anchor
RM200 x 15 months = RM3k = monthly visit for tightening for 15 months.

all the above excluding retainers, x-rays and moulds.

I suggest Orthodontics rather than Dentist when you plan to wear braces. And do go for ceramic if you are above 19 years old. Metal braces makes you look like a kid.

@DrBarbarian, but I assume the impacted wisdom teeth will push the teeth's allignment, no? That is why it is best to remove the wisdom teeth before removing your braces. Do correct me if I am wrong doctor.

@DrBarbarian, I have been told by many to remove the wisdom teeth else it will push the other teeth for space to grow out. If wisdom teeth do not push, how do they come out? I hope my question is not confusing

and yes, Sarah is good. But what do you think bout her price? near RM10k

as I said... not many ppl know the reason... even most dentists themselve will think that the wisdom tooth has the ability to push the rest of the teeth... I shall say it one more time, wisdom teeth do not cause anterior crowding....

some ppl will even say that the wisdom tooth pushed the molar in front of it till there's a cavity... *shake head*

Sarah's clinic is in ttdi.... so the price is on the premium side....

I did mine in Sarah Orthodontics, TTDI.

RM4k = ceramic brackets-braces
RM1k = anchor

How much is the initial payment? A total of 5K on first month?

Any other suggested orthodontics around PJ area?

Don't get a dentist, get an orthodontist.

Sarah Orthodontics in TTDI is good but pricey.

i consult the dentist today and this is what i have concluded...
so, the dentist offers me 2 options which the first one which will cost me rm4500 that comes with the traditional braces
while the second option will cost me rm5500 that comes with technology that is more advance or i do not know how to explain doh.gif just the dentist said that he will stretch my teeths apart.is that DAMON? since i did hear about most of the ppl will put in rubber between the teeths before the dentist put on braces.i am confused. rclxub.gif it sounds that it will changes my face shape blink.gif

and will you guys consider about orthodontist or dentist before you go braces your teeth? because orthodontist is way more expensive than the dentist. however its still professional and my teeth is seriously omg...i mean all the dentist that check my teeth will shakes their head and say its super messy cry.gif but i am still a student and i dont want to waste extra money T^T so anyone can give me some suggestions? like you guys will prefer which one?

lastly my dentist also said that my upper and lower teeth will not match that perfectly because of my bone structure..will that affect? or most of you is like that?

@LovingDae

I wanted to have braces after highschool but Ive got no $. I could have gone for government dentist but Ive heard the outcomes are usually bad.

I did my braces when I was 23, earning my own salary. Went for orthodontist since they are specialist in perfecting your teeth alignment. My point is, if you wanna do it, get the best orthodontist to do it for you.

Two years of wearing braces is a sacrifice. So even if you paid only 2k but the outcome is bad, its not worth it. I have friends who had to wear for five years just because their dentist didnt know how to move their teeth, placed the braces brackets wrongly, etc.

As for your jaw, I have met maxillofacial surgeons and they said generally, peoples jaw are not symmetrical. Orthodontist cant change the structure of your jaw, they can only perfect (or near perfect) your teeth alignment. So if you want a perfect jaw, you need to do surgery, which is not entirely necessary.

I agree to the above because you are putting an investment to your teeth which can last a very long time. Make sure you go get an orthodontist to do it. I started mine and in a middle of the treatment with a dentist and regretted the decision; not wanting you to make the same mistake. Hope you can scout more options on all the available orthodontist and discuss the payment method to get a better price.

Thanks bro. That is exactly what Im trying to point out. A perfect(or near perfect) smile is worth a million. It's investment

If you're serious about doing under a certain orthodontic, I'm pretty certain the payment method can be negotiated.

Having said the above, where did you get your braces done?

Because the braces were not putting on the suitable place on the tooth, the bite always hit the bracket. Causing it to drop so frequently and not it doesn't stick so well already. I wonder if it's a common problem in orthodontics.

Oh... and I had the idea otherwise. Maybe it's all the just the marketing gimmick. But for Damon, there's less chance of tooth extraction, the pain from the monthly screw tightening and discomfort from the rubber band?? But I have to agree is almost 1/3 more expensive than normal braces.

Anyway, I'm wearing Damon braces.

I doubt it is common since I never replaced my brackets before for two years. My teeth never hit the brackets either.

I wore ceramic brackets.

no.. i dun think so.
The dentist should stick and bracket nicely and make sure they're helps the movement effectively.
Else will delay the treatment time, you better talk to your dentist.

I paid MYR 3800 for traditional braces treatment, MYR 250 for X-ray and dental mold at Looi Orthodontic Clinic. MYR 110 for teeth extraction at an unknown dental clinic.

My teeth before orthodontic treatment were well-arranged, but I had an overbite. blush.gif Braces do help me in correcting my teeth structure, look better at least.

I'm taking them off very soon. biggrin.gif

Hi all.I wish to use braces cuz my teeth are uneven but im not so sure pulak if i can or cant pronounce some alphabets correctly cuz my course right now doesnt require me to take MUET.My friend just recently install her braces cuz last time when she was doing MUET,her lecturer told her that she cant pronounce 'S' well.

Anyway,i just want to know if there's any drawbacks from wearing braces.cuz from what i heard,u have to wear retainers for the rest of your life?is that true?and my mum said i will be toothless faster (compare to my peers) when i'm old cuz they hv to take out some of my teeth out to install the braces. cry.gif

There is permanent retainers where you do not have to put on and off all the time.

I had my braces removed mid of the year and since then I have always been wearing my 'traditional' retainers at night. Although I was advised by the orthodontist to wear it day+night. So far so good, no major teeth movement.

The reason why I do not wear them on day time is because I eat 5 meals a day. Imagine putting in on and off~

You can try invisible braces, the treatment is not very costly.
But I think it isn't suitable for those who have serious crooked teeth. I am not too sure. ;
I'd suggest you to consult an orthodontist. smile.gif

my advice is look for a good orthodontists if u planning to wear braces...
i wear braces for upper teeth for about 1 year + (no extraction) for only around 1.8k...

althought its cheap, but the result is not satisfied because at last few month before take off braces, the doc tell me that my lower teeth might make the upper teeth bend out abit...sad...

Hi all...

Just to share with you all the results so far after almost 70 weeks of wearing braces. The upper one was installed on Dec 11, 2009. I'm still not sure how long I still need to wear them yet. I've been through a lot of mental and physical pain throughout these period but I believe it's worth it.

Those who are still hesitant about going for braces, I would say, just go for it. Beauty comes with a price but it's definitely going to put a nice smile on your face and increase the self confidence too.

bleeding gums are most probably due to bad oral hygiene... smile.gif not advisable to go for braces until you can do a good job and prevent bleeding(gum problem)

Yeah, i had my 4 wisdom teeth taken out. I was under general anesthesia (I'm injected with a drug, whole body went to sleep, feels nothing). Then when I woke up, all my 4 teeth is already done with. Thinking back, it's just like a dream.

OMG, then if you wake up. You will feel pain in all 4 corners right? And those anesthesia, do they apply in normal dentist or I have to go to those big hospital? doh.gif

I check with dentist before the price, 4 wisdom teeth all together costs almost RM2k. 2 of them cost RM100 each and another one cost almost 900 each due to the difficulties O.o.

Seriously, I really scare about taking out the wisdom teeth. It looks really really pain. Last time I have exp that the dentist is trying to pull out one tooth from my mouth, and dentist is just only apply partial anesthesia on my mouth, but I still feel the pain in it. I think he didn't put enough to it. cry.gif

Jet, DrBarbarian,

I went to the dentist and after the xray review, I was given a written referral to a government specialist hospital of the oral surgery department. I was checked again by the specialist over there and they agreed on the GA procedure. Since it was a done at the government hospital, the overall cost is less than RM100 only.

The pain was there but I was given pain killers for medication so it was not so bad.

does GA cost any harm to our body? Cause I really scare about the removal of wisdom tooth. Sedation does it meant by partial dosage on mouth only? I'm thinking of removing all 4 wisdom tooth before chinese new year, after that along with the bracer.

I removed all four of my wisdom teeth in Singapore mid of this year. There was no pain at all because my jaw was numb for 24 hours.

Believe me, my wisdom teeth position was real bad. impacted, horizontal, hitting other tooth..

And I was under gas sedation so it feels like the it ended in 2seconds. The entire healing process took one month, not that bad~

Anyways, I have visited alot of maxillofacial surgeons in KL before going Singapore. My friend's sister passed away after wisdom teeth surgery, so choose wisely..

Sometimes when i got problem with my bracket, or wire or bla bla bla, i have to postpone it and wait Dr. reuben back. I dislike another ortho becuse she seema like freshgraduated. guys,i went to Livingwell in great eastern mall and he quoted rm6k for normal steel bracers including 4 tooth extraction (yikes!) . is it too expensive or is there a reason for the price being that high.

im just afriad that going to a 'cheap' place might result in something bad although i dont really know what can go wrong wearing bracers.

He goes for extra training once in a while to australia, when i look at the clinic wall he has a lot of cert from there. I had my braces taken off last month I AM so happyt with the result. if u want to see the pictures i can show you, cos he gave me my before and after pictures. Worth it, i paid only RM 5400 over two years for damon type. He was very gentle with me and I really get along well with ima too. The clinic is very nice and clean, staff are very helpful, ALWAYS they contact me before my appointment, very professional. My friend is doing invisalign there

Dr barbarian...i agree that he is a nice person...i like him so much..i do many survey before i choose White smile..and first time i saw him during consultation on the dot i agree to have a braces treatment with him.I like his character and he is confidence for decision making. tongue.gif My expectation so high on him thats y a bit regret when another ortho do a treatment on me.She looks not so confidence but lately quite ok..hahaha...im a bit fussy...but i still recommend other people to do braces here because the technology used and the price is cheaper than other clinics..

Anyone here ever done braces with MAHSA?

I'm doing there cause it's cheap, my friend who studies there said it's RM1000 for whole treatment. I've been there for four appointments already and each time I ask about the payment they don't seem to care too much. They've done scaling, made molds, taken x-ray and now I have to wear retainer for a month prior to braces all without paying anything.

Oh the dentist ask me to try the retainer cause I got keloid at my earlobes (suspected allergy to metal).. so wanna see if I'm gonna have reaction with metal in my mouth for long period of time. But my friend who have keloid also wore her braces for two years.. but better to be safe than sorry i guess. Anyone else got keloid and wore braces?

2. Can I request to the dentist that I don't want him to pull any teeth out???Can he work round that?

double ace.... if your crowning is very minimal, you can straighten your teeth without any extraction..... may need some trimming of your teeth to create space though..... most cases need extractions.....

deadangel.... why don't you pay a visit to those orthodontists that you mentioned and see if you are comfortable with the dentist and environment......

I register for my ortho since 12 years and they only called me when I'm 23 years old. I really regret goin there to do my ortho. The doctor always scold me and ask me go scaling before seeing her once a month. Got 1 time i told her she make me very pain with my teeth, she go and marah me and doesn't even talk to me for the next few appointment. I was so angry with her attitude and planning to transfer out from there!

Hello guys, i have been following this thread ever since i wanted to get myself a braces. Just went to my first appointment with the orthodontist this morning. I was charged RM80 for consultation, RM200 for two x-rays and RM120 for the moulds and seps. The ortho also put spacers, this round rubber bands in between my teeths to create a space for the braces anchor point.

Next appointment would be to extract four teeths and maybe a scaling. The ortho quote me RM5800 for the normal metal braces. Is this price reasonable? i'm going to negotiate since you guys paid a lot less than the price i got quoted.

deadangel, scaling is the cleaning of your teeth.

Yeah, but that is not the final price. i havent negotiate, wanted to know how much should i ask for. i just called several orthodontist (like david ortho, dr low ss2) and on average they quote me RM6000 for the normal braces. I guess the price for braces has gone up recently eh?

Nope. Only for the braces and the treatment starting from the braces installation till removal. I'm doing the extraction and scaling at my company panel clinic so i should be able to save some money there. As for the retainer, she offer me RM700.

Based on my first appointment, i'm comfortable with the orthodontist. She is gentle with my teeth and don't mind explaining things. So i'm going to get my braces on with this ortho. How much is a reasonable price for normal braces currently? mind sharing?

would like to check for the orthodontics in Penang.

Dr. Looi's price is around RM4k++ while Prestige Dr Chay's price is RM6k++ (non-damon).

any idea regarding Dr Chay's price is higher?

I'm not sure which doctor I should go for.
Previously I went to both clinics for consultation and I feel Dr Chay's service is more comfortable but the price is quite high.

Thank you.

Is dr looi a dentist or an orthodontist? normally ortho will charge more since they are a specialist. the price that dr chay asked for is the average price ortho normally quote, read my previous post.

Hi everyone, i went for my doctor, quoted 5.5 k for the traditional bracket + rm600 for both retainers.

However Dr.how charged 6k for damon full metal bracket, included retainers. The miscellaneous charge a bit expensive. x-ray scanning and the photos.

Which doctor better?

Dr.Low (ss2) nice or not?
Any recommended doctor (near to Subang Jaya)?

Low Tiong? he's very experience..... he scolds his patients though.....

btw, the price for damon should be dropping as it is proven that it's effectiveness is the same as conventional braces.... furthermore, there are lots of other brands right now that uses the same system(latch) as Damon...

it's up to you to choose which system... and it's not true about damon being less painful.... I'm just saying it's overrated.... not saying it's bad....

the stronger wire the braces generates, the faster the teeth move and hence the treatment duration is shorten.... but you will get 'more' pain.....

A great smile lights up anyone’s day, especially if the recipient of the smile gets to see perfect, pearly whites. The single most important advantage of using braces is that it leaves the natural teeth intact. However, tthe treatment involves regular follow-up over a period of one to two years. Nonetheless, I must stress that this is still the best option for correcting over-crowded teeth and minor gap closure.

i will be getting my braces next week! yeay!!!! i've done my research by reading all of ur girls (and guys) comment and i really thankful for all of ur comments cause its helps alot..

well, here is a little bit bout my treatment so i can help those who interested to do one.

name of clinic : Klinik Pergigian Choo, Setapak

braces type : LOTUS PLUS

Price : rm4500 including extraction, treatment, scaling, retainer and brush.

payment: rm200 for impression (moulding, etc)
rm800 for the braces
rm500 for another time
rm300 for 10 times visit for 6-8 weeks once..

what i like about the doctor is he EXPLAINS alot until i understand fully da things and da procedure... the nurses is friendly. the payment isnt dat burdening. and they give alot of FOC thing..

cons : have to do DIGITAL xray at gleaneagles intan ONLY..
