depends on your pain thrash hold...... normally it dhouldn't hurt but it's gonna be very irritating.... feels like food stuck between your teeth.....
putting on the braces is a different stry though..... most ppl won't be able to chew for up to 1 week as the teeth will be sore..... you will have ulcerations too.....

QUOTE(pegasusxing @ Jul 12 2010, 10:19 PM) i've only been to one orthodontist so far. 5k for metal 7k for ceramic a bit high right? i read this whole thread already.. are ceramics still superior aesthetically compared to damon? does anyone know where i can get lingual braces? how much is the average price for lingual? ceramics are tooth coloured so it's not that noticeable.... lingual braces is even better, can't even see it.... but it's application is limited.... lingual braces generally cost RM10k and above....

QUOTE(pegasusxing @ Jul 14 2010, 06:05 PM) what about damon? cheapest i can find is 5.5k for metal, 6.5k for half metal, half ceramic, at the smile clinic. are there any cheaper places? cheapest that I know of is about RM4k.... Damon braces are similar to mini braces without the mini 'rubber bands'.... there are many types of braces in the market.... ceramic, plastic, metal, haflings and even gold..... they all basically do the same thing.... advantages over one another is not that great...... Make sure the doctor that do the braces for you is a qualified orthodontist.... lots of gp out there took short courses to do braces(couple of days training) and claim they can do it....

4k is in KL.....
Damon claim that it's faster coz it's system causes less friction.... in reality, it's not the system that determines the amount of movement but the dentist... we have to evaluate if your teeth is suitable to be moved at a faster rate....
Orthodontists don't do gp work... so if your dentist does fillings, scaling, extraction etc..... then he/she is highly likely not a specialist....

QUOTE(hbh60 @ Jul 30 2010, 05:18 PM) Hi, What are the braces types available in Malaysia and the cost of each type ? I asked one of the dentist in Ampang area : Non Ceramic = upper and lower teeth = RM5000 Ceramic = upper and lower teeth = RM7000 I was adviced by the dentist to wear a permanent retainer after the braces has been removed. Im looking for other dentist which offer lower prices . Any recommendation ? that's about average for KL price.... the oldest patient with braces that I've seen started her braces when she was 62 years old....

haha.... that's what your dentist told you?? alot of ppl(including dentists) have this misconception about early adulthood crowding....
what happen is, our lower jaw will continue growing when the upper jaw has stopped... as the lower jaw grows, it moves forward and the lower front teeth will be obstructed by the upper front teeth... this will cause the lower front teeth to become crowded and rotated.... normally happens in late teen to early adulthood....
wisdom teeth doesn't cause anterior crowding at all..... ppl who dun have wisdom teeth or got it removed early in life will experience this crowding as well.....
you probably din wear your retainers huh?

as I said... not many ppl know the reason... even most dentists themselve will think that the wisdom tooth has the ability to push the rest of the teeth... I shall say it one more time, wisdom teeth do not cause anterior crowding....
some ppl will even say that the wisdom tooth pushed the molar in front of it till there's a cavity... *shake head*
Sarah's clinic is in ttdi.... so the price is on the premium side....
