Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - 2013-03-15 I posted this as a comparison between 2 very recent Samsung models of different processor generations ( A15 vs A9 ) and most of the comments actually come out in the Note 2's favour.
Some of the comments:
QUOTE
brendan soliwoda • I much as I am digging this new phone, I am perfectly content with my Note II and will not be switching anytime soon.
Chirag Thakkar • if i m gonna change my note 2 the only device replacing it will be note 3.
Ben Barren • i would love the 441 ppi and thinner is better but smaller screen and no S-pen i'll still take Note 2 until Note 3 tho i'd love JB 4.2.2
Mathilda • I can't let go my samsung note 2, because i always need the S pen for my study and write down my note. Note 2 just like my notebook combine with my laptop. Samsung SIV is good, but for student, the features in Note 2 is the reason i can't let go note 2.
Romeo Bucur • I already made my choice 3 days ago. Just bought a note 2 and i don't regret it for a second.. the s pen and the large display make browsing the web a very nice experience.. and about the "ppi" war.. note 2 has a beautiful display.. certenly more than the averege user will ever need... can' wait for note 3...
k brooks • Ive had my note 2 since September and I still love it and it's still makes the I phone 5 look like a kiddies toy. The screen on the note 2 is still superb (even tho its not full hd) and very bright. I've got 118 apps installed , and it is still as fast as it was when I first got it (which surprises alot of people). The battery life is another great bonus. I'll upgrade , but only to the note 3. I'm sure the S4 will sell very well though and is great for people who can't handle the extra size of the note 2
Aliff Alfiry • Nope, I won't change my Note II for S4. As you can see by now, Note is in it's own league, and the only true successor to Note II is the Note III, not S4. Both cater for different market. S4 for mainstream market, Note for niche market. Alas, I'm sure most of Note II users will wait till Note III comes out and then decide to buy it or not, because going to S4 feels like downgrading no matter how great the performance and screen quality are
A review by ZDNet on 2013-02-03 Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Big enough to be worth the trouble - James Kendrick Excerpt: Conclusion: the best phone I have ever used This article has only touched on some of the features that make the Note 2 so useful. Useful is a good description for the Note 2 as it is easily the best phone I have ever used. It's certainly not for everyone, which is true for any smartphone, but for those looking for an innovative phone in the crowded Android space the Note 2 is worth a look.
A review of the Note 2 about 3 months after launch (in December 2012) and still shows up favorably against newer phones. Galaxy Note II - After The Buzz - post-hype review 2012-12-06 - contributed by klmc

QUOTE(benny888 @ Mar 11 2013, 09:02 AM)
TS (christina1, NOT joytest) is already using a note2 n considering change to Xperia z. I suggest she consider the butterfly instead. I have used all these 3 phones n seriously Xperia z n butterfly cannot be compared to note2 due its much bigger display n spen features. Butterfly n Xperia Z quite similar in performance but butterfly thrumps the Xperia Z in display quality n very obvious audio quality. Camera wise both quite similar but Xperia z camera launching is dreadfully miserably slow. Slowest I have seen to date. Xperia Z advantages is waterproof n dustproof
I am not dissing the other phone. I am just quoting what others have replied when asked which phone should one choose when given a choice between Note 2 and something else.
I am of the opinion that to date, there is nothing out there that can yet compare with the Note 2 simply due to the inclusion of the active digitizer and pocketability.

What's in the sales package (applies only to SME sets)
A sealed box with the blue Samsung sticker and an e-Warranty sticker.
The serial number and IMEI stickers are at the side.
In the box you will find the phone, battery, a WHITE 3-pin charger rated at 2A, a WHITE micro-usb cable, a pair of WHITE headphones and a short manual which also describes e-warranty.
NOTE: If you are getting an AP set, the charger will have the pin configuration of the region it came from (eg 2 round pins for Europe sets) NOTE: If you get a set with a BLACK charger and BLACK cable, you may not be getting a Note II and it is likely a knockoff.
How to check your phone
Check your IMEI by dialing *#06# and compare it with the one on the sticker on the box. It has to be the same. There could be an extra "/01" which you can ignore.
Check all your phone's features by dialing *#0*#. You will get a full screen of clickable boxes. Click each one to ensure that those respective features are tested and working fine. Hit the back button to exit the test you are in.
Remove the battery and confirm that there is a SIRIM sticker (applicable only to SME sets). Then compare the serial number, ensure it matches with the one on the box sticker.
Go to Settings>Storage and ensure that it is showing 10.36Gb total space (if you have a 16Gb device) This is the correct amount of free storage after the default software is loaded.
LINK:Difference between LTE and Non-LTE versions of the Note 2 Due to some technical differences between N7100 and N7105, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FLASH ROMS !!! Most roms/kernels on XDA are meant for the N7100. Please ensure that your rom/kernel can be used on the N7105 before you flash.

The Battery
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
My 2 cents about battery use: Firstly, ALL USERS here on this forum report usages >12hours ie 1 whole day out, with at least 3hours AND MORE of "Screen On Time" or what we term "SOT". Typical battery life tends to be 4+hours SOT with 18+hours total use. This is a SMARTPHONE and should be enjoyed for all its wonderful features of large screen for movies/browsing/reading, powerful CPU for gaming, data connectivity for surfing etc. If you can get 1 whole day's use out of a full charge, I don't see why there is a need to complain. Charge when you are sleeping. Read the link about batteries, and you won't kill your battery from overnight charging.
IF you are getting less than 3hours SOT, and/or less than 12 hours of total use, then the most likely cause is some badly behaved app or apps that won't go to sleep and keeps your CPU running high. See Advanced Topics for Wakelocks and what to do about them.
See Post 8 for some of our forumer's Battery Life Records.

Cost to replace a cracked screen - PrinceCaspien The Note 2 screen has a Wacom digitizer, and this is bonded to the glass during assembly. When you replace the screen at the service center, both will get replaced as a single assembly.
If you are adventurous, you can try to do it yourself. See Advanced section.
The MicroSD card slot
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The Note 2 has a microSD card slot. MicroSD (or sometimes abbreviated "usd/uSD" card since "u" looks like the Greek letter "mu") is the physical format of the card. The logical format (ie how the computer/phone sees it) can be FAT16, FAT32, exFAT or even NTFS.
FAT32 officially supports up to 32Gb. Cards greater than 32Gb will default to 64Gb and be in exFAT format. Only Windows 7 and above support exFAT natively. Vista and Windows XP need additional drivers.
Nominally the exFAT standard supports up to 2Tb (terabytes) of storage.

S-Pen (usage and settings)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 works in conjunction with the Wacom digitizer bonded to the screen. The digitizer creates an electromagnetic field that detects the S-Pen up to 12mm away. Jointly, this also allows for more precise content manipulation and rendering. The Air View feature, for example, uses the digitizer to preview content based on the proximity of the S-Pen to the display.
The S-Pen in the Galaxy Note 2 is longer, thicker, and more ergonomically designed compared to the one in the original Galaxy Note. The S-Pen allows for some of the Note family's (the original Note, Note 10.1, Note 8.0, Note II) most innovative features, including Easy Clip, which allows quick cropping of images by simply pressing the S-Pen button; Quick Command, which activates frequently used apps just by swiping up on the display; and Air View, which allows previewing of content when the S-Pen is placed near the display.

Quick background: I'm probably what most would consider an average smartphone user. I use my phone for fairly common things: email, text, weather, YouTube, browse the web, Google Reader (RIP). Nothing too heavy. I’ve owned an iPhone 3G, a Samsung Captivate (OG Galaxy), Atrix 2, and a HTC One X.
I recently upgraded to a Note II (refurbished for $0.99 from AT&T, woot woot) and it's completely changed the way I use my phone, but not for the reasons you might imagine.
Yes, the large screen is nice and has changed the way I browse the web. I can open up the desktop version of a website and read all of the text without having to zoom in, at all. But the real thing that has changed how I use my phone? Battery life. And this isn't even bespoke to the Note II. The Razr Maxx (HD) gets great battery life. But I wanted to post this to let people who are in the market for a new phone know that battery life really will change how you use your phone.
From the moment I leave for school in the morning until the moment I go to sleep at night, I never, ever, even think about my Note II’s battery. No matter what I'm doing. Watching 20 minutes of YouTube? Don't even think about it. Using Maps with GPS turned on? Don't think about it. Streaming music during my 45 minute commute? Nope, don’t think about my battery. In the past, all of these things would have had me frantically checking my phones battery. It wasn’t until I got the Note II that I realized just how much I had been worrying about my phone's battery. I used to constantly check it because below about 50%, all the phones I mentioned above would plummet.
I just upgraded from the VZW G-Nex up to the Note 2. Like OP said, it really has changed the way I use my phone. With my Nexus, I kept a dock in my office, one in my home office, and chargers plugged in the living room and bedroom as well. Playing a game on an emulator with a USB controller plugged in would drain my battery from full to shutdown in 90 minutes. Even just GPS and Pandora on my 30 minute commute would knock the battery down to 75%.
With the Note 2, even with the gigantic screen, I have not yet gotten a battery warning, ever. For a week I still carried my SIM-less Nexus, figuring I could use it for music and games and "save my precious phone battery." Honestly though, even using the Note for music, games, social networking and office apps throughout the day, the battery has held up like a champ. I presume heavy data usage over the mobile data rather than wifi will eventually beat up the battery, like it does on any phone, but honestly overall I'm just completely blown away by the user experience of this phone. ===== theklinksGalaxy Note II, Stock 9 points 19 hours ago
I went through the same upgrade -- VZW Gnex to Note 2 -- and actually got frustrated when I couldn't drain the Note 2's battery in one day. Now that I'm used to it, I freaking love it. I can use the hell out of the Note 2 and not worry that I'll be dead in the water on the commute home. ===== ToiletNinjasGalaxy Nexus 4.1.1, Galaxy Tab 10.1 Stock, Archos 70 6 points 19 hours ago
One random luxury I've noticed - Splashtop is a DREAM on this phone. Obviously gaming lags insanely and is a poor idea, but it is really nice for viewing content on my desktop, starting up a download to be waiting for me when I get home, or monitoring my system. Even the Nexus' decent sized screen felt a little small, and the curve made it awkward, but the Note 2 really feels like a little "desktop remote". ===== DrDerpbergNexus S, Nexus 4 61 points 17 hours ago
I can see it now: a commercial where you get wrapped up in whatever you're watching on your Note II at breakfast. You ignore your food, leaning in focusing on the screen. Time skips a bit and the shadows in your room are different, but you're still staring at the screen with your food in front of you. Time skips again, to the evening. And again, to the middle of the night, with you passed out in your eggs and bacon but still just barely holding your Note II up, chugging happily along.
The tag might be something along the lines of "This phone has more energy than you do", but I'm no marketing guru. ===== vincredibleGalaxy Nexus (VZW) 43 points 20 hours ago
I agree completely. I had a Galaxy Nexus before I switched to my Note II (both on Verizon) and I had to be so careful with my time spent using the phone. It got decent battery life with the screen off, but even at the lowest brightness, just leaving the screen on for a few texts or a brief bout on Reddit would drain significant percentages of the battery. Don't even get me started on what 5 minutes of YouTube would do to it.
I felt the exact same way when I switched to the Note II. For the first few weeks, I was so giddy over the battery life, I was watching it like a hawk, mainly because I wanted to benchmark how awesome it was (and it was pretty awesome), but once I got past the honeymoon phase, it just became this thing I never thought about again.
Until I read this thread, I probably hadn't actually looked at my battery meter in days. I charge it at night but I never know how low it is when I plug it in - it's certainly not low enough to be of concern. I do whatever the hell I want on this phone. An hour of YouTube, 6 hours of streaming music at work, calls, texts, Reddit, downloading, uploading, games, GPS. None of it matters. I don't have to worry about whether my WiFi/BT/GPS is on or off and potentially hurting my battery life. The thing just chugs along and never ever gets low. It just works the way I need it to work.
Excellent write-up concering what is easily my favorite aspect of the Note II!
by Charles Chambers Used to be a diehard iPhone fan since 07. Switched to android in 11 and I love it. The difference between android and iOS: iOS is like living in a nice hotel. You don't have a lot of choice but it looks nice and easy to use. Android is like buying your own home. Buy an really nice home (android device) and you will probably love it. You can change and customize it however you want. It's yours! You can also buy cheap.

The one called Android Development deals with ROMs/kernels/tweaks etc that are "cooked" ie modified from STOCK. The one called Android Original Development deals with ROMS/kernels/tweaks etc that are built from scratch (AOSP/AOKP) or are entirely original in their approach. Note that AOSP/AOKP does not fully support all Exynos features as Samsung has sadly not released the full details of the Exynos processor to the dev community.

This is the best way of detecting incoming charge current for your Galaxy Note 2 (also works on the S3). It does not seem to work on other devices. It reads a file here /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg This provides an objective method to compare charging variances, and will help to narrow down slow charging issues. Very often it is the cable, or a combination of a lousy charger with the cable. The Note needs a charger that outputs at least 1.5A (with GCC readings of 1400 and above) for good charging speeds.
After extensive testing by forumers, and most notably brotan, good chargers output 1500 and above. brotan has a supply of DUAL USB, DUAL 2A output chargers that have been tested working by several forumers. He also has original cables that can carry 2A current properly.

My personal opinion is that naked phones are just accidents waiting to happen, and also that so-called "cases" that leave the top and bottom bezels exposed do not deserve the term "case". IMHO, a real case covers the entire bezel, the back and also a rim lip on the front face of the device. To each his/her own.

Since we're actually going to discuss rooting, here is an article for you to understand why your phone is not supplied rooted out of the box: Why Doesn’t Android Come Rooted? - 2013-03-12
So now let us begin.
A very very brief description of phone architecture: portions of writeup credits to antt00 for clarification
The table shows components of the architecture from bottom to top. At the lowest level you have the physical hardware, then upwards you have the firmware and the rest. The userland is where the User (you) interact with the hardware using the programs/apps you installed.
I'm writing this because you are holding a portable COMPUTER that has phone capabilities. So you should treat your device like a COMPUTER first, and a phone and/or camera second. See this:LINK:Smartphones are the PCs of the future
A "ROM" typically contains a kernel, a radio (some have several you can choose from) and the userland. Some ROMs do not contain a kernel or you can elect not to install its default kernel and use the one you currently have. I provide a link further down this writeup to the Cyanogenmod wiki for a further explanation.
The Baseband or Radio contains settings to connect to the transmission towers, while the CSC contains settings specific to your mobile operator in the APN list (eg Maxis 3G, Maxis Streaming, Celcom 3G/2G etc)
Component
Changeable?
Description
Rest of ROM (userland)
Y
eg monx, Alliance, Phoenix (usually "ROMS" include the kernel and radio as well)
Kernel
Y
The Kernel is a low level component that handles management of the hardware. It exists in all Operating Systems like Linux, Windows, OSX etc. Android is based on Linux, and Google has been cooperating with the Linux community to merge kernel development effort. eg Abyss, Perseus, Redpill
CSC (Carrier/Country Specific Code
Y
CSC settings include the APN (Access Point Names) list for your region's telco settings. It provides some parameters for your specific telco (eg Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Maxis Streaming etc). Some ROMs contain multiple CSCs for more region support. You typically do not mess with this otherwise you will not be able to access the data network.
Baseband (also known as Radio)
Y
The radio handles your phone's hardware communications with the telco network. It simply allows your device to fulfill its phone function. eg DLK5, DLK7. Some apps allow you to change the network parameters used. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS unless you REALLY KNOW what you are doing!
Recovery
Y
The Recovery allows you to perform some functions like flashing mods and ROMs. It is the lowest level component that the user can interact with. eg CWM, Philztouch, TWRP
Firmware begins:Bootloader
Y
This starts the phone booting process when you press the power button. It is also the location of flash counter. Triangle Away changes values here. The bootloader is UNLOCKED. However, there are no custom bootloaders yet for the Note 2.
Hardware (components)
N
Screen, Battery, the stuff you can touch
Of course someone like AdamOutler (on XDA) can mod the HARDWARE. That guy is a real guru.
You CAN mix and match components marked "Y" from different countries, kernel, ROMs etc. It's fine, although some Radio versions may give you reduced signal performance.
A note about CPU, RAM, ROM and "Storage" Think about you sitting at a desk with drawers. You are the CPU. The RAM is like your desk space. The larger your RAM or desk space, the more stuff you can work on at a time. But then of course, the more you work on, the more "you" is needed ie multi-core CPUs. Storage is like your drawers. The larger your drawers (storage) the more stuff you can store (your mp3s, mp4s, pdfs etc).
ROM, in this case, is technically "Read Only Memory". It is like the master plate used in printing, or perhaps a DVD. You can deface, tear or crumple your printout but you can always get a fresh printout by stamping from the master plate. So the ROM is actually a master plate or clean slate you can revert to if you have problems with FCs (forced closes) or random problems with your phone. You get the clean slate by performing a Factory Reset.
In your phone, the ROM resides on an area of Storage that is accessible by the Recovery. In the early days, a ROM was a physical chip that you replaced or re-flashed with special hardware. Nowadays everything is highly integrated.
Some additional clarification from Cyanogenmod if you're still not satisfied with the writeup here.
Now you can begin.
Rooting for Beginners - some general explanations and understanding
The simple, non-sexy, non-flashy, techie answer: root gives you administrator (ie God) access to your device. Root DOES NOT change your phone in any other way. No speed-ups, no slowdowns, no other changes or magic. But it OPENS THE DOOR to magic
Other answers using different metaphors:
Easiest Explanation EVER To Explain Root Vs Jailbreak Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them
LINK:Difference between ios Jailbreaking and Android Rooting an excerpt: Now while IOS users might consider jailbreaking their iPhone the same thing as Android users rooting their Android phones, there is a HUGE difference. In fact, you can't even compare jailbreaking to rooting, and here's why. Android out of the box allows users to install 3rd party apps (also known as sideloading), already allows you to install themes, and even allows you to install applications directly from your SD card or internal memory of your device. Everything that IOS users hope to accomplish with jailbreaking their device is already included as basic functionality within Android.
Does Rooting Void warranty? For Samsung phones, it's a yes and no answer. From the terms and conditions, rooting/flashing will void your warranty, but Samsung Malaysia is not strict about this. So far there have not been cases of Samsung rejecting rooted phones, but please be prudent and perform a Triangle Away counter reset and flash stock firmware before turning in your phone for warranty.
If you live in the USA, rooting (of phones only) is legal as proclaimed by the Librarian of Congress, so you shouldn't have any issues with warranty. The US legal system has not clearly defined what a "tablet" is, so you can't root tablets. We don't know the case for "phablets"
Can rooting damage your phone? It is a one in a million chance. If you are afraid of this slim chance, don't root. This usually happens due to PEBKAC issues. Therefore, if you are prone to PEBKAC, do not proceed. Please google PEBKAC for your OWN UNDERSTANDING AND PROTECTION. If you do not suffer from PEBKAC, then please ensure 1 very important thing: your download is NOT corrupt. For Windows, use this tool: HashTab by implbits Make sure that your file MD5 matches the one from the host site. If the MD5 matches, your download is clean, and you may proceed.
There may be cases where you will not have the MD5 from the host site. If that is the case, use this tool: http://www.7-zip.org/ Install it. Select default options, and then run "Test archive" from the right click menu. Passing the test will give you a good indication your download is not corrupt.
What is the Flash Counter and Triangle Away? There is a counter in the phone that checks for flashing of custom ROMs. If you have flashed a custom kernel or ROM, the counter will increase. When you get into Download mode, it will show that the counter has increased. This tells Samsung that you have modified with your phone. You can reset this counter by using Triangle Away.
What is this about "locked bootloaders" ? As you have seen from the writeup above, the bootloader starts your device. In Samsung, it also contains some checking code to determine whether you have a modified recovery and/or kernel. However, Samsung did not lock down the bootloader. A locked down bootloader means you can't root, can't change recovery, kernel or ROM. We all fervently hope Samsung continues in this fine tradition.
Now, other manufacturers practice bootloader locking as a so-called "security measure" to protect, ostensibly, the user. See link above about why your phone is not rooted out of the box. Here is a link to a post by an XDA forumer about bootloaders for Samsung, HTC and Sony.
Also see this post (2013-03-08) by DooMLoRD, a recognized XDA developer, on his steps for unlocking the Sony bootloader. Warnings quoted from his post :
QUOTE
Quote: For Xperia™ devices released 2013 or later (for example Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL), the SD card of your device will be formatted and you will lose all content (for example photos, music, videos) when you unlock the boot loader. DRM keys WILL be lost forever

There is NO best rom n will never be any. If there is the whole developer community will shutdown Read the respective xda thread and see what appeals to you n read too user comments There is no quick answer Test yourself Choose which rom you want to test n ask for opinions here is better
Mod's response: Closing this thread as there is no better Rom than others. They are all different and one Rom that fits someone needs might not be suitable to another user.

If you are an advanced user and familiar with flashing etc from any other Android phone, the link here will point you to all such topics related to the Note 2. Samsung Galaxy Note II - N7100, N7105 - for other variants (eg AT&T etc), please search for those models on XDA as they are in a different forum.
If you are a noob/newbie to all this stuff, please read the link to the NOOB Guide FIRST before asking how to flash ROMS and so forth.
Having said that, if you do not wish to take the first plunge to root and flash your phone, that is perfectly fine as well. All users here have report immense satisfaction with the stock rom and across the web the general consensus is also that Samsung has done very well with the stock rom of the Note 2, barring any Touchwiz haters.

Kies is well known for its un-reliable.(sic) Titanium backup - for your apps and data. Nandroid backup - for complete whole things (app + data + phone system..etc..). You do Nandroid before flashing custom roms. If anything bad happen during flashing you can restore back to your previous set up by using your Nandroid.

One piece of advice. PLEASE CHECK APP PERMISSIONS BEFORE INSTALLING. An app should not have permissions beyond what its stated functionality should be. For example, a Wallpaper app should have NO PERMISSIONS. A Launcher will naturally have access to permissions for Calling and SMS and Phone Hardware (vibrate settings etc).
If you install MyHotSexyGirlLiveWallpaper with access to Calls, Network Status and SMS, then ....

If i remember correctly , not sure if it's note 2 or note , if there's no sim inserted , there'll be a warning that there is no sim and the phone will auto shut down after 5 or 10 mins . It's just a safety feature for the phone , nothing can be done unless u insert a sim card into it

Its true that the brightness set to zero is sufficient.. If I set to max brightness then my yellow spot of my retina will hurt.. But when I am under the direct sunlight, I cant even see anything..

Mine is always auto brightness as in at the middle of the bar. However, I'm using this red theme and I really can't bear the brightness. Even at 0% brightness is still hurting my eyes a bit...

Does anyone tried wireless charging?? Actually I dont seem to see the logic behind this.. Since the output power of the wireless charger is tantamount to a usb charger, why dont you just bring the wall charger and get the job done in about 3 hours instead of more than 10 hours..
try a few days first. The most scary one is settings page. Its like Halloween lol. fruitie Romow nice ah?
Yeah that page is crazy. I was a big fan of Romow until I found out Emotion Note. It remains my second favourite or was it third? Hawkish is also nice.

Hmm, correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the concept of wireless charging still requires a mat by which the note 2 is placed on top of if and the mat is also being powered by a wire connected to a wall socket..

Thanks..
She meant you cannot use the phone while charging as it needs to lie on the mat. We can still use the phone with a conventional charger and a long enough cable.
Wireless charging concept work great when not using the phone just imagine reach home just put phone on table with mat it be charging while away and not for ppl that cant live without a phone on bed or toilet

Known issue. Quite a number of corrupted sandisk 64 and 32gb class 10 card already reported in this thread alone.
I just got mine replaced. But is it the problem with the phone or just the sandisk card alone? if it's the batch problem, then the replacement I got shouldn't have this problem is it?
I guess should avoid 32GB and 64GB Sandisk on Note II. I'm using my 16GB Sandisk since Note I and it's still performing fine..
I don't know. I believe it is luck of the draw. Have one 32gb SanDisk bought first quite a number of months ago which is being used in one of my S3s, no issue to date. Got another one, same capacity, in another S3. This one developed problems after only 2 months. Had it RMA'ed. Up to now, problem free. Using a 16gb, SanDisk also in my Note2. So far, no problems. So, there you go. I think, like any products, it depends how lucky or unlucky one is.
Thank you for this info. Will add to page 1 when I get home.
This is probably valid for those rm700+ "S3 AP" sets as well coz I've seen them with Antutu scores of 9k+ but shows SMDK4x12 quad core.
xeactorz you might want to check this out too since both the note2 and s3 are really hot and counterfeits abound now.
iinm, there are cases where I've heard these phones come preloaded with a "modified" antutu apk, which answers why the scores can be realistic at times
I just got mine replaced. But is it the problem with the phone or just the sandisk card alone? if it's the batch problem, then the replacement I got shouldn't have this problem is it?
i think only after a few tries only you can know whether it's your phone or the uSD. or you can just take to the service center and ask them to check for you.
How's XPZ compared to Note II? Besides the water proof feature?
the thing is right, if we change to XPZ, im very sure we are gonna have to sacrifice a few things. I'm very sure we will have crappier loud speaker, might even cause us to miss some calls, smaller viewing area, super simplified software capabilities, and of course worse batt life
the pros of it would be a much more sharper screen(this will be the main reason for me to change to the note 3 later ) and the ability to run all those awesome AOSP ROMs which will look like they are really made for the phone. AOSP on this note 2 looks weird for some reason
For me I choose note 2 because of spen how good other phone is useless screen alittle sharper wont make huge difference is like watching a hd in a 40" vs 5 inch.
Nothing beats nokia stereo speakers

Went to the PC Fair in MV, hoping to get a good deal for Micro SD card for my phone, cheapest Sandisk Class 10 for 32GB I found is RM99. Price range within 99-110.
WD is having a good sale this weekend, hard disk going at cheap prices.

Is there any Apps in the Play Store that can help us to clean up all those un-used folder (Folders that created by an App but i have uninstalled that App) ???
For example, I have install PPS in my phone... PPS will create some folders/files in my phone & when i uninstall PPS, those folders still remain inside my phone...
Any1 has any idea what App can clean up those un-used folders/files after i uninstalled some apps ?

Hi.. new user here Bought it yesterday... Titanium Grey 16GB SME.. extremely happy with this set major upgrade from my previous xperia x10
Been reading since V17, juz wana confirm few things sifus, if its ok:
1) planning on rooting using the method posted in 1st page.. Rooting does not increase counter right? Only flash custom rom/kernel..
2) noticed that users are having problem with sandisk memory cards.. can recommend me some good brands? price high a bit ok..
3) planned to get Spigen Oleophobic SP... As for the casing, im stuck.. UAG, Kraken AMS, Ballistic SG and Otterbox Defender, all four are attractive.. Any1 has experience with the other cases except UAG (read in previous thread)
careful , dont delete anything unless u r sure . Got some users accidentally deleted some files and folders who seem useless and ended up with a dead phone . Have to flash the firmware all over again

Samsung implemented a checksum in the bootloader to detect rooting, so all rooting attempts will raise the flashcounter. The only way to avoid this is if you are on firmware DLL5 and below with the old bootloader, by using Exynosabuse. However, since you have a brand new unit, I'm pretty sure you are on DLK7 and above with the new bootloader. The only way to zero-ize the counter is to root and use Triangle Away.

use exynosabuse.apk to root. then use mobile odin to update to 4.1.2 with the everroot function checked. That way you will get a rooted 4.1.2 with zero binary counter

LJ1? Still LJ1? There is no multi-windows yet then. Try to long press back button and see if the multi-windows thingy appears.
When I bought mine in mid of October last year, it was already LJ3...

firmware is build number . Baseband version is the modem currently in use in your phone . LJ1 ?

It looks like an attempted PTP mount which failed since it's trying to detect the camera. Is the MTP fine? Try Heimdall. Although I occasionally use Linux, I don't use it for device connections.

Ah I see. Thanks for the reply. Need to buy additional adapter then.
Frankly , I prefer the AP unit charger to SME charger any time especially during traveling . Safe a lot of space in storing and dont need 2 worry I'll lose 1/2 of the charger if I'm careless .
To be honest I'm kinda tempted to jump to Xperia Z... Though the battery capacity is much smaller than Note II's but the battery seems to last quite long. I'm impressed...

In Android, you have choice. It's a good thing. I'm also impressed by the XZ's spec sheet. However I prefer the stylus as it is incredibly useful to me, and the removable battery is a plus

Screen on time lower, but idle batt life is arguably better thanks to stamina mode.
I'm heavily thinking of getting it in 2 months time since Sony phones are known to drop in price fast. Then jump to note 3 if I really miss the pen and battery life

I'm different from you though. I doubt Xperia Z will have lot of custom rom/mod compare to Samsung. Thats the reason I still staying with Samsung.

Note 3 5.9" is fine by me.
lol 5.9, even note 2 also fully fit my pants and jeans already larger than that impossible to fit, unless hold the phone LOL waiting S IV, 5 days to go

Xperia Z battery endurance rating is only 48h... compare to Note 2 63h. But surprisingly, its talktime hour almost can beat Note 2 despite Note 2 has larger battery mAh.. Other than that...
IMO, it's seems like Xperia Z's camera isn't that good as I thought...
i was surprise... HTC camera takes better photo than Sony All the time i thought htc fit with lousy camera. Sony is just so so.. .with the marketing gimmick Exmor R tech lolx...

American Airlines owns 33,000 tablets and that's one of the largest corporate deployments, period. 23,000 of them are from Samsung, not Apple.
American bought 17,000 Galaxy Notes last fall. The Note is sometimes called a "phablet" because it's part smartphone and part tablet.
****** I suspect the writer may not know the difference between the Note and Note 2, since last fall would have been Sep-Nov, when the Note 2 arrived. Anyway, it's a major win for Android vs crapple.

sifu, i have rooted my note 2 as the following method.. XDA Newbie Guide..
1. Download all the files you need below! Galaxynote2root.zip 2. Make sure that USB debugging is on=> setting->developer options->enable usb debugging 3. Extract the download .zip file into a place you can access easily 4. Run ODIN...exe 5. Turn you device into recovery mode=> HOLD POWER+VOLUME DOWN+HOME 6.Connect your device to the PC 7. There should be a yellow box appear in odin, if not DO NOT PROCEED! Try restarting your phone into download mode again, and please ensure that you have usb debugging on and also have samsung usb driver installed in you computer. 8. Click on "PDA" and choose the file cwm6-root-note2.tar 9. Click start and wait for a few second.......DONE! You will now have a rooted device+CWM (What is CWM? Read first post) You're now not a NOOB! 10. Hit the "thanks" button!
However, when i want to boot to recover mode, it glitches and nothing appear... Should i redo it again using the files in Uncle benny's blog? If so, the counter will further increase by 1 right? So i can juz use triangle away to reduce from 2 to normal right?

Morning all. 5. Should be turn your device into download mode.
To enter your device into recovery mode press power+volume up+home button. Release the volume button once the samsung logo is out. I don't know what glitches you were talking about. Could it be bootloop?

Dear sifu, would you suggest any other newbie friendly link ? I saw that the OP for the NOOB Friendly link in post 5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055827 was last updated in December, and now lol4291 seems to have encountered a problem.

Should uncle benny's post be used instead?
Uncle benny's one is the chenglu method that so far have not had any issue. Even i first rooted my device using that method. The noob guide is using CF method. Frankly i have never used it but Chainfire is a very well known developer and i can trust him. Only thing is the noob guide is kinda confusing. It have a link in the middle of the post for different note 2 version and one more at the bottom for only 1 version. So people might end up flashing the wrong thing.
Just my opinion all the methods should be group together and users are advice to select their own. If one fails then just use another.
One more thing is i am wondering if the new bootloader is interfering with the rooting process as there is added security. Never heard of anyone actually linking it to the bootloader but only recently heard lots of fail rooting.

some of the sifu here got me inspired to try out smartphone photography...
just sharing results and hoping for feedback... of course there were lots of not so nice photos and just sharing what i consider as 'the best' of the lot...
had to reduce the photo size by 50%. can't seem to upload into LYN at 100% size. used irfanview to reduce by 50% but did not do any 'enhancement'. when saving back as JPG, just put to 100% (GOOD quality).

Hi all sifus, I am having a bluetooth disconnection problem with my note 2. With the same earphone connect to another phone, there is no problem. But with Note 2, the connection will drop after ~30s, even though it is in the mid of streaming some audio to the earphone. I had played around with the "call audio" & "media audio" (under bluetooth setting) but still could not solve the problem. After disconnection, the phone will try to reconnect but the connection will not get through unless I disable the earphone and reactivate back.
By the way, I am using stock rom with chenglu root. Thanks for any input.

To me,most of the thing he said is his own opinion, but some is kind of true
Actually, everything he says is true, but he shouldn't use the word "hate". These are all very small issues except for the app priority and the play store list not anchoring thing.
The use of the word "hate" just makes him sound like a whiny "first-worlder" who can't take a little extra effort to adjust. At worst these are minor annoyances.
Is it me or just the guy from that youtube video? I can still control my brightness even though auto brightness is turn on. But not much difference though.

I'm currently using stock samsung rom and have setup everything including calendar events, contact, apps, etc. After reading from the forum, I am planning to flash Omega rom but before I do that, I would like to understand the following
1. The latest omega rom is v13 which is based on MB4. My phone show as MB2. Can I flash MB4 rom to MB2?
2. Since I have setup everything on my stock rom, before I flash the new rom, can I clone the whole phone so that I can restore back to original state in the event that I do not want to use omega rom?

1. Yes you can flash without any problem. 2. Do a nandroid backup before you flash anything just in case. You need to root your phone and get cwm or twrp recovery. Then just flash away

Noted with thanks. One more final question before flashing the rom tonite
1. After flashing the rom, I believe everything will be wipe out, right? Can I use titanium backup to restore all my apps, sms, call log, contact, calendar event, alarm, settings, etc?
2. If I have nandroid backup, I can restore back to original stock rom state (everything will looks the same as before), right
I am a little worry that all data will be gone since this is the first time I'm doing rom flashing.
Can Note II support 16gb and 32gb Class 10 memory card ? Is it the bigger the memory card the longer it take to initiate the card when the phone first boot up ?

U can actually do a dirty install and only do a full wipe if u have problems like force close . Dirty install means u dont wipe your data aka factory reset in recovery . Just flash it over your current rom . That way , all your apps + data + settings is all in tact . Choice is yours .

1. Flashing rom does not wipe your data so no worry but I usually did a clean wipe before install any rom to avoid any problem like FC. Backup all apps and its data thru titanium backup. Contact on google account. Sms on " contact and sms backup apps " . Do not restore system settings like alarm preference etc via titanium as it usually cause problem. Manually setting it back wont take much time.
2. Nandroid backup will restore everything as the time you backup, everything period.

U can actually do a dirty install and only do a full wipe if u have problems like force close . Dirty install means u dont wipe your data aka factory reset in recovery . Just flash it over your current rom . That way , all your apps + data + settings is all in tact . Choice is yours .

Can Note II support 16gb and 32gb Class 10 memory card ? Is it the bigger the memory card the longer it take to initiate the card when the phone first boot up ?
Note 2 can support up to 64GB SD card...
I dun think bigger memory card's capacity will make the initialization longer... I'm using 64GB class 10 SD card... didnt notice any diff after boot up...
No. Please do a full wipe. Currently you are on stock rom which is odex form. Custom rom is deodex form and to prevent any complication later and a much nicer first flashing experience, better wipe.

Oh ya hor , he is on stock and odex . Better follow his advice or Reventon and full wipe

OK, Noted. Thank you. Just completed Nandroid backup.
joytest well done for your continous update. Bbs app got new update. Remember to re-grant root access for those who got any problem computing battery stats.
Hi all, I got in touch with Grant of GrantBarker.com. His site is in Post 5, and is also a very good portal for Note 2 resources. He agreed to link our topic on his Community Links>Samsung Galaxy Note 2 section.
So since now we're a little more international, it will benefit everyone to improve their English

@nehalem176 can u help me to analyze my battery stat? thanks
Your dumpfile mixed up with wanted and unwanted wakelock. provide an idle dumpfile. easy for me to identify which unwanted wakelock that can be reduce. Your device not rooted. If you're rooted, you can minimize your alarm wakeup as well.
Atm, try these and see how it's influence your battery life: 1. Go to setting>location service>uncheck all location setting 2. Use alternative app for facebook such as friendcaster. 3. Disable unwanted sound like touch sound, keytones and unlock sound. Use vibrate instead.
Edit: ktgohdt125 simple google search for 1013 led me to mediaserver. Reboot your phone and see whether it will trigger again.

If u have seen soya cincau previous works he have lack of expertise in photography and camera. Then the joke how can you compare a dslr sensor vs a tiny phone sensor like those crappy tiny sensor?
If a fella can even compare a dslr with a phone why cant ppl compare a phone with a phone
I think the point here is he wants to compare HTC vs Sony Xperia Z camera not dslr. We all know dslr can always capture more accurate photo. So which phone can took the photos that get closer to the dslr wins lor....

My 2 cents: I don't really see any issue if the phone is plastic polycarbonate, and neither do I see any issue if it looks like a smaller Note 2 or a larger S3. Please try dropping an aluminium-bodied device.
IMHO, all modern phones are large glass slabs with a bezel. Obviously you don't want a sharp edge, so you make the bezel a round-edged rectangle. And then some silly company comes along and starts suing over a rounded rectangle. The same silly company has got its new aluminium bodied device chipping paint and they're not doing anything about it.
LG, Lenovo, Huawei all have very similar looking phones. Nobody's really complaining about design there are they?
BBZ10 looks VERY much like that silly company's device.... does anyone smell a lawsuit coming?

Well, I'm somewhat design-blind

Just got my phone back 2 weeks ago from Samsung for the microphone faulty. Apparently, they change my MOBO the 1st time fixed the random shutdown and restart as well..been using Stock for 2 weeks..everything seems well. Going to root it tomorrow and backup and straight to ROM flashing again. Hopefully this time everything goes smoothly but I learned a lot from last root and restore back to stock session lol..

So now we all know what to expect from S4
-4.99" 1080p screen with or without superamoled -2gb ram -smart scroll -might be similar design with s3 -1.7ghz exynos 5 or snapdragon 600 -13mgpx
And so, Note 3 will have - 5.8"++ ? - 1080p screen? - 2gb RAM - 4000mAh battery? It seems Wacom could be the limiting factor in a 1080p-capable digitizer.

Sadly , that's not all that is to working life . Being a student once , I too look forward to working . Thinking back , I would say best time in life is student life except for assignments + exams . No other worries or maybe who to ask for a movie tat weekend . But of course , since u r working , u can change as many phones as u want as long as u can afford it
p/s : not many of us get a hot boss like alexng2208 when we work so it's kinda depressing
Let me OT for a while. I was so looking forward to working life because I hated exams so much.
Then I enjoyed working and slowly the feeling is fading away. Just too busy that I hardly have time for myself. Anyway, my working environment is very good so it actually helps a lot.
At least you don't need to wake up the same time everyday, meeting non-stop. Though I only wake up at 9. Hehe.
You have semester breaks, long long ones. I have 25 days of annual leave and hoping for longer weekends.
You better enjoy while you can.

Yes you get salary and freedom of finance. But its not all fun and spending. You have much greater responsibility if you wanna plan out your life.
Students wanna get working fast to get money. Working people wanna go back to their school days for the simplicity.

Make it simple nobody will teach you success.
Parents believe we have to study hard to be prepared to work for someone. Then when we are in school/college/UNI we go to get prepared to work for someone.
So when we graduated we really go to work with someone.
Notice there is no education in success.
Until today my dad still keep telling us Work at the moment to get experience then who offer you jump to another job. Think it this way there is a barrier or a limitation and forever you are lost within that cage finding ways to get out. Jumping from another cage to another cage

i'm so bored.. everyday (maybe a little more often than that) i will surf into xda and pray that there is a new version 7.4 of Dualnote or maybe 33.5 version of perseus for me to flash
but i'm always disappointed. i'm back to playing games on my phone.
I am thinking to get a Note 2, I would like to know,
1. What is the current price of Note 2? 2. How long the battery can last if use for normal surfing and whatsapp the most?
I am currently using HTC One X, and the battery drains in like 7-10 hours under normal usage, very annoying.
Price seems to be around 2k-2200 for sme. AP is about 100-200 less.
Battery life is fantastic on the note2. Most here charge every 1.5 to 2 days. Longest record wss 4 days with 4hrs screen on time. See post 1 under The Battery.
No doubt, I have the financial freedom now but again sometimes I do rant about my work. My job is a love and hate thing. Anyway, I do learn a lot from my job and I really appreciate the opportunities given by my bosses. They give me maximum flexibility for me to perform my job.
I'm still on my way to work. My job can't allow me to work from home everyday.
Back to ORD issue, I'm kinda satisfied with my current ROM. Gonna bear with it till Emotion comes out with something.
Hey I am curious on whether did anyone here overclocked your note 2??
Doesn't need overclocking at 1.6ghz. You can probably hit up to 1.9ghz but it will likely overheat and fry your cpu once you start playing games. What you might need is GPU overclocking.

None taken.
Let me explain why I use super cars
A mobile phone camera > compact camera > semi pro camera > DSLR
From your car comparison you are not comparing CC but the type of class aka mobile phone vs Dslr camera.
DSLR have interchangeable lens your mobile dont have? Then next what lens is he using the image quality also depends on the lens fitted/used. Then depends on the setting he set? Is it auto? Manual control?
If you want to talk more indepth
First what is the sensor size
2.aperture size
3.Megapixels count

That's my point u need someone more experience to know how to show the difference.
In car if you get a professional driver to drive preve/proton/myvi they have so many years experience now when they test a lower end cars they can tell you what's the pros and cons. Then now when an average user test the car they get a better picture from a professional compare to a newbie drive a supercar.
Like at this moment the fella set the standard so low it give everyone a negative perception. Perception is an illusion.
Like me I can adept to most mobile phone because I understand the system and limitation of the camera.
For average reviewer similar how can u take super car vs mpv vs local car to show the difference.
If u take proton blm vs perodua viva it still looks interesting and logical. Get my perspective

I was told that there was some study conducted before in the US that showed people tended to die on a monday. It was speculated that this was due to monday stress
i beh tahan and just flashed the ol' faithful dualnote 7.3 again to remove the rubbish AOSP dialer which keeps getting the wrong numbers saved
for a split minute, i saw the screen by samsung (without perseus kernel) and boy oh boy.. what was i thinking?
the perseus kernel with its calibration is enough reason in itself to condone rooting and hacking and jailbreaking and smashing and flashing
Hey I am curious on whether did anyone here overclocked your note 2??
dont bother . i was on Abyss kernel , default came with 1.9k overclocked . Dont feel much difference compared to 1.6k stock until u really do a lot of multi tasking while gaming . Then again , the phone gets pretty hot

I was . Ya , 2.1.1 is great , better then 2.0.1 a lot but i switched to Perseus for the screen color calibration . However , still using Aybss recovery since the sd swap for it works for Perseus as well
No doubt, I have the financial freedom now but again sometimes I do rant about my work.
I changed my work culture. 1. Setup 20 MB unifi and allowed full access to social networks (reason: thats where the business is nowadays) 2. LAN game after works (DOTA2, SC2, D3, L4D2 ,Battlefield 3) 3. Alcohol friendly after 6pm 4. Changed all Senior Engineer and above laptops/PCs to atleast i7 , 8 gb ,1 TB HDD & Min 1 GB graphic. 5. Setup multimedia server (movie,drama,mp3 & xxx )
But the price to get this, I must hit management KPI and revenue projection in 2 years time
This extended battery 6800mah for rm 70 quite cheap IMHO, anyone wanna take the plunge.? I'm still finding worthy mms to fit in my note2 and a decent wallet casing prolly the tridea wallet case. The one which opens up beautifully like a wallet with compartment

I dont actually trust those china brands for their capacity claims . I have a few extended batteries , even external battery case . None , I repeat , none is accurate . Take SGS3 case for example , the external battery case is stated as 3200mah yet I cant even charge my SGS3 from 30% to full before the pack drain out of battery . Defect maybe but no , even the seller was honest enough to say it's totally different from what they claimed in the packing before I paid for it but never expect it to be so much different . Also , with an extended battery , u cant fit any case anymore as cases are not design to be used with extended battery .
Ok i have one issue on bbs. How come after full charged...when i look at "since unplugged"...all the stats are accumulated before i charge my note. By right, standby, deep sleep, awake all should be start from 0. But in my case they are accumulated reading before i charge. any explaination?

8min screen on might contribute to your wakelock and wakeup. Regard from my previous reply for your post, this dumpfile generated after follow my suggestion? 1. Root your device and install GM's Fast Dormancy app to disable FD or flash to another modem. If you don't want to root, turn off your data when not using it. 2. Disable location setting 3. Not sure what you were doing for 8min so might disable your possible sound in sound setting.
I suppose the maker over-hyped it, leading to deflated expectations. Still, IMHO, a phone is a large slab with a bezel some thickness is a good tradeoff for +++battery life.

Sun Global batteries are reliable , cheaper then original BUT I dun see any difference using their so called " extended battery " compared to original batteries . I havent tried for Note 2 , 3600mah i think but i used for it for note 1 , sgs3 , sgs2 , a few HTC and I dont get any longer usage time compared to stock . The extended battery I have used that actually makes a difference is from Momax and Mugen battery with I was using Dell Streak . I think Mugen has a extended battery for Note2 for around RM100+ , 6000+mah . U can give it a try if u want

Well , to be honest , i feel it's the users here in the LYN's forum who over-hyped it , like Xperia Z is "the" phone . Looking at the spec , the only "wow" factors are the full HD display , shatter proof and 13mpx camera ( how good is it is another issue ) . Yes it's water proof and dust protected but I dun need a 2k phone for it . Even my Motorola Defy TX535 , a RM400 phone has higher IP certificate then it at IP67 and its battery is removable .

Wow so cheap?? I thought Mugen is selling it at 100U$ dollars.. That is not even including shipping cost yet... From Amazon.com..

how to disable all the wakelocks? 8 min screen on i just go to bbs and use awhile kies air, noting much, i dunwan to root my phone atm, i din follow ur previous reply... i just charge the phone to full and leave it there so u can analyze my current bbs, is that possible to disable all wakelocks and kernel wakelocks when the phone is on deep sleep? why my phone awake 1 hours?
YES! but its kinda the same one. Dun really see a point to flash a new one until 4.2.1 is out. So i am stuck with no rom flashing.
Kernel also dun see the point of flashing another as the latest Perseus is the only one with color calibration and is very good on battery life. So i am also stuck with no kernel flashing.

Wakelock cannot be disable. the only thing we deal right now wanted wakelock and unwanted wakelock. wanted wakelock will trigger only when you're using your phone. unwanted wakelock will trigger when screen off but certain application/process running background. Schedule task include in wanted wakelock. Follow my suggestion and see how it will influence your battery life. 1. Unroot Status: Disable DATA when you're not using it. Root Status: You can change your modem version OR disable fast dormancy with GM's Fast Dormancy app (this may be vary but in my case, disable FD give me better result!) 2. Disable location in location setting and Google map setting such location sharing and automatic check in 3. Use alternative app for facebook like friendcaster 4. Disable certain sound setting. Imo, touch sound and unlock sound is useless.

same and the same
kernel can't tear myself away from Perseus now haha
what is the difference between this and s3? look same to me >.<
Don't you see? What's different is the INSIDE, not the OUTSIDE !!!
You can have the hottest looking casing but if you are using a socket 478 P4 with 1Gb RAM, 20Gb HDD, what can you run?
Samsung is using a slightly tweaked casing with the current generation of internals, so that's the difference.
So what if it looks like an S3? I use my PC casing over 3 generations of motherboard/CPU.
I just shake my head when people keep saying they're completely turned off just because it doesn't look different enough or sexy enough, or metallic enough or whatever external appearance enough.... as if the casing is going to give you a better user experience?
If you had a HOT HOT GF who is a complete airhead .... how's the user experience? Only nice to see. Let's see how fast you get bored.
Read the X Z thread for posts since yesterday. There's already dissatisfaction after just 1 or 2 weeks of ownership despite the supposedly "sexy" design over poor Samsung's "horrible designers"
I am pretty upset with the software updates as it appears that they have caused my settings to go haywire.
I used to get notifications (+sound alert) at the status bar (same panel with the time, battery display) whenever I get incoming gmail and watsapp message. However, now I will have to open my gmail and touch the refresh icon to retrieve the mails. As for watsapp, if the program is not open/running at background, there will be no notification. And I cant seem to finds ways on how to set it back to the old setting. Anyone can help? I want to have the notifications back.
My unit continues to be laggy. I am not a heavy user as my apps only takes about 1.15 GB (internal memory) so I dont really know what is happening

I dont think i understand what is BBS dumpfile or nehalem176. I think it is more to sync issue as pointed out by antt00 below.

Is auto sync turn on?
It has been off all the time. Contact --> Accounts ---> Sync Setting.
The problem with this auto sync is, it doesn't allow us to select which apps to auto sync, which apps not to. I am afraid that it will sync my facebook contacts too and end up clogging my contact list. Nevermind, I will try to enable it and block my FB instead. Thanks

Good point about being apple...but then apple had no change of the OS, that was their fall. Here Android always undergoes improvements and launchers and keyboards etc. And then the ROM modders can enhance the hardware performance etc.
In the Android hardware arena, it's like swapping out your motherboard and processor and you are still using Windows 7, but you can customize to your heart's content, or run Linux, or Hackintosh...
Ok only a few more days to go, then we'll all know.

Getting stuck on boot screen is not normal . A lot of things can caused it . As neo0915 stated , do provide more info like r u on stock rom , rooted , what did u do to get it stuck at boot screen . Only then forumers here can assist u . A simple answer like "stock rom" cant help much .
P/S : I am sure he meant to ask " pirated apps " , not " private "

well said but apple no change the OS ?? use newer iOS not consider change the OS ??
Didnt manage to get screenshot but The actual reading was 6 hr 58 min 59 seconds SOT and 16hr 20 min on battery, after that the device auto shutdown hahaha.....
It seem that after device power up the history is still there until battery full or unplug

like this Android also same what ??
What I meant was that iOS has always looked the same...same keyboard, same homescreen, same refusal to support general bluetooth, same customisation options (ie almost none)
I'm adding a Battery Life Records section under Post 8.
Will ask for these as standard info:
For Battery Life records, please provide: Battery Summary Readout (Settings>Battery) Use Details:Screen (Settings>Battery>tap on Screen line) also known as Screen On Time (SOT) History Details (Settings>Battery>tap on the Graph) Any other Use Details (Settings>Battery>tap on any other app line)

Brian Klug from AnandTech said at that time that Samsung has ditched the ARM-designed Mali GPU in favor of a PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU from Imagination Technologies. This would be the first time Samsung has opted for a PowerVR GPU since the original Galaxy S.
Imagination has recently confirmed that the Exynos 5 Octa is indeed using a PowerVR GPU. The SGX 544MP3 is a 3-core design clocked at 533MHz, and capable of achieving 51.1 GFLOPS, according to AnandTech.
So, how will the use of a PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU affect user experience? It’s not easy to compare chips, especially if you want to do an apples-to-apples comparison and to make it all easily digestible even by non-experts. Let’s just say that AnandTech puts the Exynos 5 Octa between the A5X that powers the iPad 3 and the A6X on the iPad 4, in terms of raw performance (assuming that the memory interface is the same).
Now available the application that would love to have the Invisible Man!
Do you have a friend who gets angry heavy if you go online to WhatsApp and not you answer? Want to read your WhatsApp messages without your girlfriend knowing it? It's annoying that people control you by your WhatsApp's state?
No bones about it, become you invisible with WhatsApp Shadow. This application lets you read your WhatsApp messages but nobody see you've connected. Enter Whatsapp, read messages, answer them... totally invisible.

Still prefer HTC Sense . However , it takes quite a big amount of RAM . Using it on devices like Desire with 512 RAM , u can actually see the difference in RAM usage if u decided to go " Sense-less "
here is my bbs.. hope u can trace out the culprit.

I've also been thinking about this. I can only suspect he had to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) after seeing some super hot sexy secret stuff from Samsung. He was after all given a free trip and was a Forum Representative. Like what SoyaCincau had to do (ie provide lots of writeups and then say "courtesy Acer Malaysia").

Then again something could have happened to him
That's my 2 sen.
NDA.. probably yeh. He shud be a free man after 15th March ( right after S4 launch ).

Yup but useful for lazy flasher like me . No need to flash rom then flash kernel then use tb remove gmap n then flash again brut map . With this , I can do all in 1 except flash brut map as it's excluded but there's an option not to include gmap in Aroma .

so are you displaying symptoms of ORD ? need a mention in post 8?
Guys, I'm only can use my internet at phone if my network are H or H+. Unable to browse when 3G. Service provider are Maxis, on custom rom but I notice this happen since the stock rom.

Read last couple of pages, you might need to change your modem. See post 4 for an explanation as well.
Actually this means that Samsung put powerful drugs in Note 2 to keep us satisfied without the need to stray to other sources
Perhaps only people who have a craving for living on the edge get enticed into ORD
I think i am agree with you...
Previously when i was using my Galaxy S, every1 is complaining lag, slow, etc... Those days, Galaxy S user is craving for custom roms updates everyday for better performance, speed and etc... Every1 get excited when new roms / versions are available to download...
Now, I have to say Samsung really did a great job in Note 2...

See the new-ish review I added in post 1 under General Info. The guy from ZDNet is also saying it's the best phone he's ever used.
What I meant was that iOS has always looked the same...same keyboard, same homescreen, same refusal to support general bluetooth, same customisation options (ie almost none)
that true, due to closed source all iOS device UI also like that ...
PowerVR 544MP3 ?? what the different ? saw sammobile just said it will just use powervr 544 GPU yet, ipad with retina display (4th generation) using 544 mp4 (quad core graphic) so the MP3 is triple graphic eh ??
how to differentiate if a battery is original or fake?
This one is a bit hard to answer. Usually the telltale signs are indistinct printing of the manufacture date and the QR code, and maybe the overall feel of the finishing is rough to the hands. Otherwise you will only find out after you buy.
I suggest you check out brotan he may have some stocks of good compatible batteries. He is a good seller and a number of us here have bought various items from him.

Used to have ORD when i was using my Xperia X1 & Galaxy S...
Note 2 is fast & stable enough for me... So I didn't flash my note 2 to custom Rom until now...
LoL ..... Not really , havent flash since Monx last update n recently for the eye straining red theme on Du@lNote . ORD is only a problem for me if I'm using CM or MiUI

Well, as the others have recommended, buy from an official Samsung outlet if you are worried. Note 2 is still one of the best smartphones around despite the competition, AND you CAN REPLACE your paper notebooks with it. I do that a lot.
Read the reviews in Post 1 under General Info, Reviews.

I did read that pages, I did change my modem for, I don't now how many times, I did change my ROM for many times too. Still not functioning. And I guess it's Anwar's fault.

Anwar??? Anyway, why don't you revert to stock for Malaysia and then try that for a few days. If it persists, Triangle Away before you send to SC.
Yup, already flash to stock ROM 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 for about 5 times but no luck. I think will send back next week.
1. I guarantee service center will factory reset and maybe update to latest firmware and return to you. 2. Where is your location? How come u got 3G as normally it will be H+ or H unless the signal is very very bad. In which case dun care what letter it shows it may not work. 3. Have you call Maxis to check?
