Beginning 1st January 2012, we are supposed to received SMS Alert whenever our credit card has a transaction. But many reported that they have yet to receive any SMS from their card issuer.

If you have been following the Credit Cards General Thread, where many useful information are posted and then discussed besides allowing you to ask questions, you will note that many have complained that they did not receive a single SMS Alert on fraud charges. The reason being is because most credit card issuers have preset a default value to trigger the SMS Notification.

The purpose of this thread is to report your SMS Alert and discuss about it.

A. SMS FORMAT

Here are examples of the SMS Format that members have reported:

B. Default Value for Face to Face Presented Transaction to Trigger SMS Alert/Notification

Here is my contribution to you guys on the default value:

Alliance Bank - Default value RM500. Can request to change. Call CS and they will sent you by email for fax.

Direct Access ( CIMB ) - Default amount RM500.

Citibank Platinum and PremierMiles Priority Line - Default RM500. Call CS and request to change to RM200 or you can do it online.

OCBC Bank - RM500. Call CS and they can email a form to request default value be set to RM1.

Ex-EON Bank Visa Signature Toll Free - the guy I spoke to said it is RANDOM!

HLB Platinum Toll Free - first time use of the card, auto debit, for petrol and for other type of transaction the default value is RM1K. Once agaqin can request value to be reduced. HLB SMS Alert Form to set default value.

MBB VI Toll Free Line - not all transactions, the Customer Service representative told me that it depends on the system! Can call CS to reduce the default value to RM1 over the phone.

RHB Bank - RM500.

UOB - RM500 for presented transaction and RM1 for online.
QUOTE(64bit @ Sep 26 2012, 10:42 PM)
Update for UOB Credit Card: We can change the SMS alert transaction limit to RM 1 and above. I have successfully done so and got the SMS for a RM 40 transaction. Just fill in the "SMS Transaction Alert Service Maintenance Form" from UOB website at Useful Information -> Application Form -> Personal Banking. The completed form should be sent to UOB via fax, post or direct hand-in. Take note that the fax number written in the form is outdated. The correct fax number should be 03-26900121, those in doubt may call up UOB to confirm.
*
I will update above when you guys report something else.

Notes:

1. Please post is you have received a SMS Alert from your card issuer for any amount to confirm above. May it be online, auto debit, IPP, etc.

2. If you have received a SMS for your transaction below the default value mentioned above, PLEASE POST so that I can update the info.

3. If you have not received any SMS for your transaction below the default value stated above, I guess you NO NEED to inform us, hahaha.

Click here to read my full article titled Credit Card Fraud Calls and Banks Default Value for Credit Card SMS Alert. In this article I have elaborated more on which card issuer allows you to change the default values.

Other Relevant Info Contributed by fellow members:

PBB - Default Value RM500, can be lowered to RM100. Contributed by redbluegreen Post#43

SCB - you need to activate online and the minimum default value is RM250. Please refer Post#14 and 17. Contributed by Human Nature

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jan 15 2012, 07:35 PM)
I received two sms from HSBC last week and if i'm not mistaken, they did sms the merchant in the sms. Can't check now as i've deleted the sms.
Same goes to Maybank and Citibank. Below is the format for their respective sms.

Maybank >
- last 4-digit of your credit card
- TQ FOR YOUR USAGE AT (merchant's name)
- date
- time
- amount

Citibank >
- last 4-digit of your credit card
- date
- amount
- merchant's name

By the way, i bought some cakes with my MBB2 AMEX just now but i did not receive any sms from them. It was only for RM24+. The amount probably isn't big enough   biggrin.gif    However, when i bought my plane tickets on Dragonair website yesterday, i received the sms from Maybank even before Dragonair completed the payment process   thumbup.gif

Edit: this is the largest amount I had spent since 1/1/2012 and the only one I received from OCBC.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Jan 15 2012, 10:18 PM)
Here is my thoughts on the SMS thingy:

1. The cardholder should be given the option to choose the amount to trigger sms notification.

2. If you see Fraud Call Thread and also recent Link Club Thread, telemarketing products are priced up to RM499. If RM500 is the default amount to trigger SMS notification, then I guess it kind of defeat the purpose as you can see from above case, the card was used numerous times and added up to RM800 without a single sms notification.

2. SMS notification should state amount and merchant and time too. OCBC should do something about this.

3. Bank Negara Malaysia should set precise set of guidelines in respect to the SMS Notification for all banks to adopt and so that the public is aware, else this SMS thingy is a joke.

When I used my UOB card yesterday, not only did I get a SMS notification but I actually got a call from UOB to verify the transaction since I hardly use my UOB.

It would be most helpful if you guys can mentioned the amount.

Like I mentioned in item 3, if no SMS for transaction below the default value no need to mention else this thread may have many pages with people reporting info that is already known.

I saw this informative thread and I called up Maybank regarding the missing SMS alerts. Here's the feedback that I received from Maybank regarding the issue -

1. They will not send SMS for all the transactions that you do. (I personally see this as a violation of BNM ruling) Especially if the transaction which they have previously flagged as green. e.g Let say you have received a call from Maybank regarding a transaction from Merchant A, they will forever flag it as green and therefore you will never receive any alerts from Maybank.

2. I did raise an issue which I did an online transaction for an online merchant which I never did before and didn't get any SMS. They now say (to my best understanding), the amount is small and they think it is not a problem so they don't call me or send me SMS. (A fraud transaction can be in small amount as well before the big amount comes)

3. Now, here's the shocking part. I ask MBB to now activate SMS alerts for all my transactions because I wish to be alerted the moment there's a fraud activity and they refuse to do so! They ask me to request again and ask me to justify my request.

4. More shocks ... they say if got problems then only tell them. My arguments is that I may only notice it after a long period of time as I don't check my account every day. They refuse to budge from their stand.

Emm ... well just to inform you guys of my latest findings and you guys need to call MBB and firmly ask for the notifications to be sent to your phones or else forever you'll not get it!

I'm off to inform BNM of this findings. (I didn't threaten MBB of what I want to do after this if they don't comply, so please no one is to threaten MBB)

For SCB, card holders can set the amount for SMS and/or email notifications through its online banking, but it has to be activated as the default is 'no notification'. Previously I can set the threshold amount to RM100. Upon checking yesterday, the threshold for all items have been set to a minimum of RM250.

Sample:
RM0.00:StanChart: Transaction alert – Retail Purchase of MYR165.50 was made from credit card ****#### on 18/01/12 at 06:00 PM.

Addtional info on MBB, comment by their Maybankard FB administrator:
"the SMS alert will only be sent for certain transactions that match a certain criteria (sorry, i can't discuss the criteria). Therefore, you will not receive the alert for ALL transactions"

AFAIK not every transactions will get SMS.
What I know off is Internet transactions, oversea transactions, autobill as well as certain transactions above a certain threshold.

HSBC sent me on my autobill:
QUOTE
RM0.00:A purchase/autobill of MYR 89.65 was made on yr HSBC CARD xxxxxXXXX on 17/01/12. Call the number behind yr card if you did not authorise this

Citibank:
QUOTE
RM0.00:A payment/autopay/purchase was made on your Citibank Visa ending XXXX on 2012-01-05 for 323.46. Call 0323833061 for any queries

Both also didn't mention details. So if one panic, he/she wouldn't even recall what autobill is being charged.

Amex one I deleted already the message, but it was during my time in Changi having dinner before coming back to MY. Only received the SMS after I'm in MY, which is a few days later during their posting date.

Recently other transactions like Petrol with my Citi card, Uniqlo shopping with my HSBC, bought a baby carrier with my Amex all no SMS. Maybe within my spending pattern.

Added on January 19, 2012, 2:41 pmAnyway, I remember Citibank online can set the threshold. Let me login now to check wink.gif

At the SCB online banking site, minimum threshold is RM250.
Mine is still RM100 because I have pre-set it earlier biggrin.gif . If I were to change it now, have to follow RM250.

What is stated in my Citi online is this:
QUOTE
Citi Alerts

Get notified automatically via SMS and email when there is a specific activity on your credit card and/or banking accounts.
To enroll for this alerting service, click Set up alert and select the alert types you wish to receive.

Credit Card and Ready Credit Alerts Notification Method Notification Frequency
Card Transaction/Authorization    SMS      Always
Transaction Amount: 499.99

Banking Alerts Notification Method Notification Frequency
Online Payments or Transfers Debit  Email  SMS      Always
MYR 1.00  (edit amount)
This could be default because I didn't recall changing anything before although I noticed the new feature previously.
The FAQ here: http://www.citibank.com.my/mobile/faq/ under Citi Alerts

This is what is available after I click the edit function (have changed a few item, so not default):

Mine is still RM100 because I have pre-set it earlier  biggrin.gif . If I were to change it now, have to follow RM250.

good that you did it earlier.

RM0.00 CIMB : USD 3.74 was charged on your card num XXXX at VALVE SOFTWARE on XX/XX.

same goes with USD 9.99, USD 20.36

and then

RM0.00 CIMB : MYR 599.00 was charged on your card num XXXX at VIEWNET COMP.SYS SDN B on XX/XX.

RM0.00 CIMB : MYR 2,988.00 was charged on your card num XXXX at THE SANDIEGO IMAGE on XX/XX.

So far not one transaction they've failed to send me a SMS. smile.gif So I think CIMB is all cool. Not sure about other Banks. I need to check on my Auto-Debit on my HLB with my Telekom bills.

Already reported my case to BNM. Received BNM auto-generated reply. Just to wait now for their feedback.
If anyone have any concerns with not receiving SMS alert from MBB ... please do something about it and together something might happen.

And please don't go and threaten MBB ... CS immune with it already and they will shut off if you do coz I think many did this to them. The one I spoke to just now sounded tensed when I asked why MBB does not want to send me SMS as I have a good case ... kept on insisting I send message to higher authority + said that their system cannot capture my request for the SMS. (Yeah right!)

Thanks for info above, SO can confirm CIMB if online transaction SMS will be sent out.

temptation1314, noted you SMS for non online more than RM500. Did you receive any SMS from CIMB for face to face transaction where amount less than RM100? Do let us know if you have transacted amount less than RM500.

The RM 499.99 alert is sent after the transaction being posted or right after swipe?

I checked Citibank Online and such alert has been setup but I swiped RM 760 on Tuesday and until today no SMS alert. The transaction has not been posted yet.

Guys for all of you with MBB cards, please report the moment (to MBB and if they give any excuse then report to BNM) that you do not receive your SMS. Should you do not receive your SMS then it is a clear violation of the existing rules set by BNM.

Them sending you selective messages is not an excuse. You give them business and that's how they make money. If they are not happy with the rules then they can fight with BNM.

both parties will suffer some lost in resources when a fraud happends. To me, with the SMS, I can inform the card issuer immediately when someone uses my card and have the card suspended and control the damage .

So, I would like to receive SMS for all transactions done with all my different cards.

Bro, no need to repeat format if someone has posted, I must revise first post to state if different from reported format.

So for online, MBB do sent out SMS even for RM10.

In the first week of Jan, I never got any sms from Maybank for use of my CCs. Started to get worried about whether sms notification was activated or not.

Anyway, then I got the 1st sms on 9 Jan and from then onwards it has been pretty consistent to report my CC transactions.

* I get sms for my auto-debit transactions.
* So far all my overseas transactions got sms.
* My paypal transactions for USD 40-something also got sms (smallest amount so far which trigger sms).
* No sms when I pumped petrol using CC.

what is with the "rm0.10"? Are you being charged for the SMS?

Most SMS I get with have RM0.00 except for HSBC stupid contest where they will reply with RM0.30 (which means I be charge RM0.30).

I just checked, the SMS from MBB for my DiGi autodebit to my MBB 2 AMEX starts with RM0.00, same format at 1st post.

Same thing here.

I didn't receive any SMS for an online transaction on Jan 6th for RM650. Called up CS and was informed the default threshold is RM500 but the person I spoke with didn't have an explanation as to why I didn't receive an SMS alert.

Anyway, I requested the threshold be lowered to the minimum amount allowed by Public Bank and so far, so good. All physical card swipes above RM100 trigger an alert immediately (within 5-10 secs). Haven't tried online transactions yet.

SMS format:
CODE
RM0.00 Pls call PBB if you didn't use card at MERCHANT LOCATION AMOUNT DATE TIME. For contact no, pls refer to back of your card.

and I receive this reply from maybank:

QUOTE
Further to our checking in regards to your query, kindly be informed that the Bank had in fact implemented the guideline mandated by Bank Negara Malaysia on the Transaction Alert effective 1st January 2012. We wish to further clarify that each Bank has their own criterias being pre-determined when a SMS transaction alert is being sent to card members. Allow us to confirm that the criteria that has been set where SMS shall be sent when the transaction performed is above the minimum threshold  amount set by the bank for each transaction. Hence, this would explain why you have not received any SMS Alert per the purchases made by your goodself. Nevertheless, should there be any form of unauthorised transaction being performed with your card, you may file for a dispute and we shall conduct the necessary investigation.

I am challeging the bolded statement because fellow forumers reported that they received sms for petrol transactions, while one did not get any for hotel (few k). Would be good if we can gather what is the lowest amount that triggers the sms (for face to face transactions).

I think we need to keep complaining to BNM. My suggestion is to write a simple email to MBB each time no sms is received and cc to BNM.

I think we need to keep complaining to BNM. My suggestion is to write a simple email to MBB each time no sms is received and cc to BNM.

Based on what you received and highlighted, Maybank's statement is inaccurate as it should be reissued as "Maybank has its own minimum threshold for Each Individual". sweat.gif

if it is different for each individual, then the customer has the right to know what is the amount. let's wait for further reply from them/

Wah, how much do you need to charge to trigger SMS alert in your case.

Submitted the OCBC SMS alert request form to change my minimum threshold and successfully received SMS for my transaction, all within one day. Kudos OCBC. It's a shame for Maybank, being one of the leading bank here, taking their customers for a ride.

It is incorrect for my case. I made 2 transactions (both transactions are more than RM1,000 but less than RM1,500 each) within the same day. However, I only received one sms notification. How does MBB explain this?

It's the transaction with slightly higher amount. Both transactions were made within the same day, with a few hours apart.

With so many issues with MBB's SMS system, I'm beginning to think MBB is dragging their feet on the subject matter.

I've renewed my request with MBB asking them to provide me SMS for all my transactions. Will wait till Wed before responding to BNM email.

I am not bothered abt the threshold but about the change in pattern. A bank should flagged a transaction in JB when all other transactions are usually in the Klang Valley

Interesting respond from Maybank.

QUOTE
Please allow us to clarify that the pre-determined amount is set by the Bank. Hence, we are unable to disclose the amount. Nevertheless, kindly be informed that an alert shall be sent for transactions where the card is not presented such as online transactions, auto debit or mail order transactions. For transactions where the card is presented, you may opt for your own preferred threshold amount which is to be lower than RM1,000.00 to safeguard your interest from fraudulent usage. Once you have opted your preferred threshold amount, all the transaction which is performed per the threshold amount you have opted for shall alert you with a SMS via your mobile phone.

oops.... i didnt see a thread already posted here.
let me repeat -

with CIMB Transaction Alerts and Secure ePay (via SMS) I wonder if this is yet another way to put the entire blame on card users just like the 3D Secure crap?

when you spend over a certain amount, they will sms you but if you do nothing, that means you are okay with that transaction. now what if our phones are hijack? or what if we are sleeping or in a meeting and didnt see that message?

initially this may seem like a good secure idea but they should ok the transaction only if we reply and not if we dont reply. any inputs?

btw I didnt receive any sms from maybank when i swiped 25k yesterday. my wife swiped a huge amount as well and didnt get any sms. only CIMB sms came in almost immediately. all these transaction was done yesterday

I called Maybank CS and told them I want to set my threshold limit for my CC. After checking for a while, he informed me that it was impossible to do so. Then, I told him that there are people who successfully did it. He said he will return a call to me on Wednesday when he is able to check with the right department doh.gif

From my experience, SMS sent occasionally goes "missing" aka the supposed receiver does not receive them. Happened to me (on a non-credit card related matter) for the 2nd time this Friday.

What then if there is a fraudulent transaction, the bank claimed it sent an SMS but we didn't receive it? It'll be much easier to shift the blame on us customers after the introduction of this SMS alert thingy. hmm.gif

Received my 1st SMS alert from MBB2 AMEX right after the swipe at TM Point:

RM0.00 MBB: TQ for using your Maybankard ending XXXX for MYRXX.XX at TMPOINT JLN BURMAH\JLN BU; DATE; TIME. For inq call num at back of your card.

Before that, swiped at Esso also no alert and right after TM point, swiped at another Esso for my friend also no alert. Both swipes at Esso is less than RM 100. Swipe at TM point is > RM 100.

OT abit.

Because today is Saturday, I used my MBB 2 AMEX twice in the morning at ESSO. Went to TESCO and swipe three separate times there too. All transactions below RM200 per swipe. Not a single SMS. Just now at 3+pm, while I was taking a nap, stupid mobile phone kept ringing, they were persistent, I only answered the call on the third time and was really pissed off. A girl introduce herself from MBB and asked if I swiped my card 4 times at TESCO today. I said three, and she read out the 3 swipes and then said I swipe twice rclxub.gif I was like blur, can she count or was that done purposely?

The thing is I seldom go to TESCO. 1st swipe at Electrical Dept to buy some printer ink, second wipe for ice cream and some snacks at the general check out counter and third swipe for 10 packs of fags. This is definitely not common for me.

So in conclusion:

1. MBB still keeping track of our spending pattern; and
2. If my card was stolen, it would have been too late as they only called me 3 hours after I last use my card.

It happen to me last year. Purchased somethings from steam via paypal 3 times and an iphone on the same day. Following a call to MBB to let them know about my purchases.
MBB called me 24hours later to confirm my transaction again. I guess multiple purchases will trigger their system

I didn't get any SMS notification when swiping at MPH with Direct Access... Do I need to fill the form to activate it ?

I've been able to receive TAC from CIMBClicks... unless CC's mobile is different.

I agree with you.
I wanted the bank to send me alerts the moment any transactions using my physical card and online occurs. It is especially very useful when I travel coz I need a little peace of mind and not to check my wallet every now and then for my credit card.

I have been monitoring my SMS before posting this.

Finally MBB is sending my SMS confirmations for my overseas online and physical transactions using my MBB card.

I did took a while before I started to receive the physical transactions SMSes, for a while MBB only sent me the online transactions. I'm receiving the SMS within seconds that any transactions occurred on any of MBB cards.

I'm a happy man!

Received a written letter from Maybank, delivered by Pos Laju. Important points:

QUOTE
...the SMS alert notification on threshold amount set by card members were implemented effectively 10th February 2012. Hence, why there was no SMS alert notification sent to your goodself for the transactions dated 4th February 2012 despite the acknowledgement received on 2th February 2012. We truly regret if our personnel had not mention this to you earlier.

Nevertheless, we are pleased to confirm that the SMS alert notification is in order and that you have successfully received notification for the petrol transactions on 11th and 12th February 2012 respectively...

My wife who have yet to set her threshold amount for SMS Alert for her own Principal MBB 2 Cards did receive a SMS for her MBB 2 AMEX when she swiped RM1038 today.

Sometime this week I did finally call MBB Premier CS Tol Free to request that they set the default value to RM0.01 for all my credit cards and I am pleased to announced that I did receive a SMS when I just pumped petrol with my MBB 2 AMEX few minutes ago.

Does Maybank only SMS notification based on spending behaviour because I'm only receiving SMS for certain swipes only?

So far, I only received swipe alert for auto debit for TNB and OTC at TM point. TM point is using MBB terminal.

I didn't receive alerts from Jusco and Tesco because those're my frequently visited places.

Just my hunch. Don't flame me.

Bro, if you read first post and my article Fraud Calls and SMS Alert, YES you are right, MBB do not sent out SMS based on default value but on so called spending pattern.

If you had read Human Nature's post, he email to MBB. And thanks to many here who complained, I had no problem getting my SMS default value set to RM0.01 (for all types of transactions) when I call up CS to request for it last week.

Well, I am glad to report once again today I received 2 sms from MBB while pumping petrol for my cars.

One thing I noticed for MBB SMS notifications is that you need to ensure that your mobile is switched on to receive the SMS when the SMS is sent out.

If your mobile is not switched on when the SMS is sent out - you won't get the SMS nor will there be a resend of the SMS notification.
There's still some small probability of you not receiving / missing the SMS notifications for your transactions - it happened to me once or twice but generally I do received the notifications. When I did not receive the SMS, in actual fact my mobile was switched on thus I can't detect the reasons for the SMS not being received as it should be.

sorry for my ignorance, but this one is for F2F or on9?

CIMB, i'll get an sms sent everytime (s0 far) i do transaction on9, eventhough it's USD1 ( paypal obviously).

Yet, for F2F, they only give a call and send sms if the amount is 1k & above.
wish i could lower it down to rm1.00 tongue.gif

Found something very interesting. Did 2 transaction online yesterday, one in foreign currency (GBP) and one in RM (for my OCBC card) but did not trigger any SMS alert.

A call to OCBC centre reveil that all transaction done through Mastercard 3D Secure for OCBC does not trigger any SMS shocking.gif

I am not too sure about other bank through.

Well, yesterday I swiped at Starbucks with my MBB2 AMEX. I'm not very frequent patron of Starbucks. No SMS alert also. Perhaps amount is not high perhaps. Just < RM 100. Bought the Starbucks card for my friend.

Just to update. I swiped my AMEX 3 times today at 1U. Padini Concept Shop (RM 355), Jusco (RM 55). I got a SMS for my transaction for Jusco only about 5 minutes after I swiped stating the amount, shop and last 4 digit of card no. The other 2 transactions did not trigger anything.

My point is that MBB CS claimed that they have so called fraud detection system in order to justify for sending out SMS alerts.

If you're a frequent patron to certain merchants, you will not be receiving alert very likely. But if you're paying a visit to a particular patron once in a blue moon, one should be notified right?

Their fraud detection system is very sophisticated and hard to draw a general conclusion. tongue.gif

The only conclusion that I could draw is that MBB does send SMS notification for auto debit swipes. So far, all auto debit with Great Eastern, TM, TNB and Maxis did receive alert.

Bro, MBB don't have a default value but based on other criteria like spending pattern. If you read ben83 post earlier, he charge more than RM10K also no SMS.

So if you want SMS from Maybank, you need to call MBB CS and instruct them to set your default value to what amount you want. For my case, I requested them to set the default value to RM0.01. Actually MBB turned out to be the better bank (thanks to members here complaining), you don't need to fill in any forms like Alliance, HLB and OCBC. Citibank you can do it online or call CS too.

About 2 weeks back I called Alliance as wanted to request change the default amount to RM1. The CS said will fax over a form. So I filled in the form and refaxed back to them. Last week a guy called me and said they can't change it to lower than RM500. If want the amount to increase then can. So I told him BNM requirement is they must send SMS to me and other banks like MBB, OCBC and HLB can change the threshold value. Asked him to fer to his management.

Yesterday I used my Alliance Bank Credit Card for RM80+ face to face transaction and received an SMS smile.gif

Yesterday or today there was an auto debit transaction to my MBB2 AMEX but I didn't receive any SMS alert for it. Is that the sophisticated fraud detection engine from MBB will treat this auto debit transaction to the same merchant as non-fraud suspicious alert after repetitive transaction? hmm.gif

I refer to the following statement from MBB CS, you should be receiving SMS for auto-debit.

QUOTE
Nevertheless, kindly be informed that an alert shall be sent for transactions where the card is not presented such as online transactions, auto debit or mail order transactions.

On an unrelated matter, I have encountered these 2 situations (maybank)

1. When there is no telco coverage at the shop, there is a delay in the receiving SMS, about 30 mins after i step put of the shop in my case.

2. When there is transaction failure during swiping, I still receive the SMS a few minutes later, thus 2 SMS alert for the same transaction. After checking with CS, only 1 is succesful.

I think you better check with CS to make sure things are in order for your account. I got the black and white confirmation on this auto-debit thing.

I think it was preset at RM500 only you'll get SMS (least that's what happened to me).. you can set the amount you want again though via their online portal

Online purchase of any amount definitely will trigger SMS alert as to clarify you card's particular not being fetched online and used..

Ah, yeah the alert was preset at RM499 or RM500.
Tried changing the amount in the portal but it won't let me.
So I wrote them an email from the portal to ask for a lower limit.

At the application form for CIMB cards, there is an option to tick the min threshold. RM1k, RM2k, RM3k and RM5k only. The bank defaults value applies if left blank. There is also a box to tick for unsubscribing from the SMS alert.

My wife just received 2 sms from CIMB Bank informing her that 2 purchases has been made from iTunes US with total amount USD120 using her credit card.
My wife never had any i-device.. let alone having iTunes account. It's clearly a fraud.

The last transaction she made was when she bought a printer at KLCC PC Fair last week. Is it possible that one of the salesperson at the booth involves in this fraud?..

CIMB cust service said they'll investigate the transaction..

The last transaction she made was when she bought a printer at KLCC PC Fair last week. Is it possible that one of the salesperson at the booth involves in this fraud?..

CIMB cust service said they'll investigate the transaction..
*
see, the SMS Alert thingy is useful. That is why all banks should sent out SMS for all transactions irregardless of the amount.

And for those wth HLB card, here is the form to change the default value:

Not strange ... I'm in the same boat as well.
For some strange reasons, I stop receiving SMS since the last 2 weeks. I'm still receiving MSOS though.

I did receive SMS from Maybank when I paid for my air tickets with MBB VI and MBB2 AMEX last week (for 6 separate transactions with 4 different airlines). Also when I pump petrol with MBB 2 AMEX. This week have yet to use my MBB cards but did receive SMS from Alliance twice for two separate transaction amounting to RM100 each minutes apart at the same merchant.

if you really want SMS Alert for all your MBB transactions, you need to request else MBB may not necessary sent out SMS even if you spend more than RM10K in a single receipt.

Just to update, received SMS for my petrol with MBB 2 AMEX today.

You are right, Just call to Mbb Card centre and ask about the SMS Alert. They say will update my hp no in all my mbb cards. (So funny, I was able received MSOS for all my internet purchase before this)

Call Maxis to pay the bill by Amex. Once they key in the payment by MOTO, immediately received the SMS from MBB when I still talking over the phone with Maxis Reps.

Maybe autodebit they only sent out once for the very first time, which makes sense because what is the point of senting out the same SMS every month IF the amount is the same.

But IIRC, I did receive for the 2nd month too.

This month could be my 3rd month and none of them receive any SMS notification.

You may want to ask for explanation from MBB as they have indicated that auto debit will trigger an sms all the time.

agreed that we need SMS alert.
I just received 3 SMS this morning 5.30am from MBB informing purchases from Facebook and FastMail for my amex card. i was sleeping at that times. =.=
Unfortunately amex doesnt have 3D Secure feature which need the MSOS code to proceed with the authorization.
Pls be extra careful when using your amex card for online transaction.

It's online protection system from Maybank for its Visa and Mastercard CC.

A TAC will be sent to your registered when you shop online at merchant that utilized Verified by Visa or Mastercard SecureCode.

why don't they implement sms alerts for debit card transactions... too. I have recently split an insurance payment to a debit and credit card. The alert for cc came 3 minutes after and nothing from the debit issuer. Would have felt much x10 safer if debit transactions come with an alert too.

I'd like to take the opportunity to alert fellow MBB card holders. With regards to SMS alerts - if you have been receiving your SMS and suddenly no longer receives them, here's what the bank has been doing behind your back.

MBB recently been applying "filters" to the SMS alerts. If your transaction is flagged as low risk or known regular transactions, the bank will stop sending alerts for the transactions. Customers will still receive SMS for transactions which the bank flag as "high risk" or "irregular transactions".

I noticed that I have been receiving less or none SMS and put up a complaint with the bank since the last 2 months or so. And every time the bank will reply "We will investigate and revert to out IT team". I persistently complaint and recently they acknowledge that their action was the result of their risk management team "filtering" your SMS.

I finally mentioned that MBB is contravening BNM rules and they relented.

So ... if you think something funny is going on with your MBB's SMS alert - please make a report and make sure the situation is resolved. And keep on calling unless they solve the problem.

Sigh ... Malaysia boleh mentality.

Can anyone tell me what to do about it:-

1) In April 2012, I called to MBB that I wanted SMS Alert with the threshold at RM10.
The CS said OK, but no SMS feedback to tell that you SMS Alert was on.
All my transaction did not have any SMS Alert after that.

2). In the beginning of May 2012, I called again, the CS told me that my SMS Alert feature was on but the Alerts did not account for petrol consumption.
So far, no SMS Alert for either petrol consumption or any other transactions purchase at the counters.

3) Just few days ago, I called back and asked the CS why there was no SMS Alert for all my transactions, she said that because there was no record for my mobile phone number and need to take one week to do the processing.
Weird to the answer that no mobile phone number on the system, the previous CS had already gotten my number and update into the system...

I feel that there is something wrong with the MBB SMS Alert System... rclxub.gif

I advise you to email your request to maybank as an official record, and follow up. I am not surprise with this 'arrogance' shown by Maybank since Bank Negara is not serious about this SMS alert. Even the person in charge (Bank Negara staff) for matters related to Maybank is not serious.

*
I called MBB for SMS ALert to be on many times. They just postponed my request and said it will fix within one week, now it said it need one month. Few weeks ago, I do an irregular transaction amounting to RM 5600.00 on one transaction, still don't have SMS Alert. doh.gif

Weird to the answer that no mobile phone number on the system, (curious on this: the previous CS had already gotten my number and update into the system...)

I feel that there is something wrong with the MBB SMS Alert System... rclxub.gif
*
continues from the above....
4). Continued called to MBB. After checking, the cs told me to wait for a moment, She wrote a report instantly to MBB Information Technology Department without delay, then she said that I am going to get the notification after 3 working days later.

After 3 working days, finally I received the notification yesterday saying the my SMS ALERT is successful.

MBB SMS ALert system is the toughest bank I had ever deal regarding the SMS Alert. mad.gif

P/S: As long as you haven't received your SMS acknowledgment that your SMS Alert feature is successful, you will never get the SMS Alert for all transactions (including irregular transactions) even through u had requested for SMS Alert feature to be on and had recorded on their computer system.

One question, will the transactions incurred by the supplementary cards be alerted to the principal card holder's phone call?
As far as I know, for HSBC, yes, the transaction incurred by the supplementary will notify the principal holders.

What other bank did you find it easier to set the default value to RM10?

Actually I on the other hand find that MBB is the easiest to set default value to RM1. One don't need to fill in any form (unlike OCBC, HLB and Alliance) but just simply call them once for ALL MBB cards. I call once and that's it.

CIMB, as of today they still refuse to set my default value to below RM500 even tho I have requested it twice over the phone doh.gif

As for supp card, you can instruct the bank to sent the SMS to your phone.

What I mean tough to deal with MBB Alert System is they tend to refuse to offer some card holders to set on SMS Alert. SMS Alert is supposing to be a MUST for all bank to the card holders as the law set up by Bank Negara.

MBB seems to ignore this rule and I did not get any SMS Alert for all the transactions.
I haven't received any SMS Alert since the 1st time I used the card.

I haven't received any SMS Alert when I did a irregular transaction amounting to RM 5600 in one transaction.
I haven't received any SMS Alert when I did a irregular transaction amounting to RM 8000++ in one transaction.

You can't set default value, but I didn't have any SMS Alert notification for any transaction despite numerous attempt to do so, which one is more serious? doh.gif

Bro, you should call Maybank and ask them to set your default value to RM1 and within 3 days or so you should receive an sms. However, if you have requested for it and did receive the sms, something must be wrong. I have no issue in receiving SMS for any of my transactions with MBB card (last use was last weekend at JJ for less than RM150 with MBB 2 AMEX).

I did not receive SMS alert for one oversea online transaction. After lodging a complain with BNM, MBB replied saying that no SMS because it was a recurring transaction. I refuted the claim as it was a one off transaction and only the secon time doing online transaction. Now still pending reply.

Why don't you call Maybank (or visit the bank) and find out whether you have a credit card with them or not?
Asking such questions here will not solve your problems and if you do have a problem then obviously you are not being smart (instead lazy) by asking here and not taking the right step to solve your problem.

Wonder why SCB gave the slow SMS Alert respone, after swiping the card, have to wait for a few minutes. Whereas, MBB and OCBC are able to give the instant Alert. As long as u swipe in the cards, their computerized system are able to give u the instant alert.

Some recent SMS alerts received using MBB-2-CC thumbup.gif

1) RM100+ Pay DBKL assessment at MBB Treats Fair at Mid Valley.

2) RM1k+ Pay service car at C&C for friend (get 5x TP brows.gif )

Those without SMS: doh.gif

i) Tesco, AEON Jusco groceries

ii) Reload CBTL card

iii) Pump Esso petrol multiple times

iv) All those auto-billing like TNB, Maxis, Telekom

v) Spendings at KLIA/LCCT duty free for cigarettes/alcohol/chocolate.

From my observation, the amount does not matter. Perhaps they use a system to eliminate out regular expenses or patterns.

Gen-X, please do add this info to UOB Credit Cards thread as well.

hahaha, If not mistaken you did post sometime back in MBB 2 Thread, informing me that you managed to set the default value for your CIMB card to RM1 and asking me to do the same. But I have to call CIMB to do so. But thanks to you, everyone here at LYN knows we can set CIMB SMS default value to RM1.

I have received two different versions of Public Bank SMS Alert messages, slightly different from the one posted by redbluegreen.

Version 1

Version 2

PAC No: <PAC number>

For enquiry, pls call 03-21795000.

I must also note that the default value of Public Bank Berhad is likely NOT MYR 500. I shall provide a full list of transactions I have made for the past 6 months (mid-Dec to mid-June). The transactions which I have received SMS alerts for will be bolded in green. Transactions made at petrol stations shall be underlined.

Based on the data provided above, it would seem as if Public Bank only sends SMS transaction alerts randomly (read: when they feel good, the winds blow smooth and their mood is right). I also believe there is no actual threshold to trigger the SMS alert.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find any mention of the SMS notification / alert services on the Public Bank website. Does anyone know if they have stated anywhere about the SMS notification alert services? I've already looked through the product disclosure sheets of the cards, with no success.

EDIT: What a nice view count - We have hit the 20,000 mark!

That is from the bank's email to me in respond to my complaint on this matter. The email was copied to Bank Negara too. No info on the new changes yet. My original request is to set the alert to RM1 for all transactions.

CIMB is probably the stupidest Bank in MY.

Recently I applied for HL with CIMB and as a favour to the Mortgage Agent, I aplied for their CC and the Agent said got Cash Back on siging anf first year, GST is absorbed by Bank

So later CIMB CC Dept called me to confirm that I applied for the Card and i said Yes.

Then I asked to change the SMS Alert and the Staff said that the lowest default value is RM500 and cannot be changed

So, I said NO, I have set to RM30 for my other cards and I want the same but the Staff insisted and so I said, if u cannot change, then I DO NOT want your CC

The guy said he will check and revert back to me and after one week, I got a letter from CIMB confirming my cancellation of the application for CC

I just pray that the people in their HL will not be so stupid.

Wasted my 5-minutes to fill up the CC form.

Archmage Warlic, for online transactions, most banks if not all including Public Bank has no default value and will sent out sms.

My daughters have Public Bank and Hong Leong Bank Debit cards (obtained years ago when one of them was below 18 and thus I had to sign on the application), everytime they use the cards for online transaction, e.g. USD1, I get a sms.

I applied for a CIMB Mastercard Debit Card, and I swiped it at a petrol station today. Guess what? No notifications at all. It made me wonder how troublesome things would get if my card fell in the hands of others and every single cent under the stupid daily purchase gets swiped away. The lowest non-zero maximum daily purchase limit for CIMB is a freaking RM 1000.

Speaking of daily purchase limits, I think all banks should follow BSN Visa Debit Card feature, which allows you to set the limit at any amount you want. Yes, even at RM 1.07. They don't have this stupid "please set your daily purchase limit (in thousands)" thing - as if losing RM 999 is a small issue.

Can we raise the issue on the maximum daily purchase limit with BNM as well? Do they have any kind of regulations for this?

Human Nature Does BNM have a policy / guideline concerning the threshold for SMS notification? If you do, can you please provide some references? I mean, I'd love to read through all those.

I fail to see why banks want to make it difficult for us to get a simple notification for transactions - having to manually lower the threshold to RM 1 / RM 0.01 makes it an opt-in feature somehow. More transaction alerts = less prone to fraudulent charges from card loss / theft. Do they like angry customers shaking fist at them demanding money back?

Can't your daughter, now being over 18, simply update her contact information with the bank and change the contact number to her own's number? If she did that you won't be able to receive notifications any longer.

Further Enhancements to Credit Card Infrastructure Security
In the effort to further enhance credit card security and to promote public confidence in the usage of credit cards as a safe payment instrument, effective 1 January 2012, transaction alerts via Short Messaging Service (SMS) will be implemented by card issuers for their cardholders after transactions are performed. This will be followed by the implementation of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) verification for all card transactions from 1 January 2015 onwards.

As far as I am concern, the bolded statement means all transactions and I am holding onto that.

Holy crap, I've always been insecure about keying in my PIN in public places, such as supermarkets with all those eyes queueing behind me. Signature-based transactions will cease starting next year?

Perhaps this will somehow deter thieves from rushing to petrol stations when they gets their hands on a card (for those who are unfamiliar, payments by card at petrol stations require neither signature nor PIN, unless you opt to walk in to pay at the counter). However, it's still a pain in the ass for your common card users like me - I'll be sure to chase everyone behind me away before entering my PIN, if possible.

Does anyone know if we can raise the issue on the maximum daily purchase limit with BNM as well? I've always felt that CIMB's daily purchase limit of RM 1000 / day is quite close to useless.

For CIMB, you may request for the alert to be triggered at RM1.00. They will be adamant that it is not possible, but I managed to set mine after I complaint to BNM.

Hey - for the BNM ruling on banks to comply with SMS alerts for every CC transaction, just recently - this bank did not allow me to put RM10 as minimum trigger for SMS alert. I was shocked because I thought it should be any amount at customer's discretion, but the CS told me it is their bank's internal policy to have minimum of RM1,000 so she asked me to make a choice.

!!!

BNM's policy did not specify that they allow the bank to decide on the amount. Even a RM10 cc transaction is a transaction.

Quite unhappy - I have 2 cc with other banks and so far they have allowed me to set at whatever amount I choose. Suddenly I face road-block with this bank... mad.gif

did you call up MBB Customer Service and request that you receive sms alert for transactions above RM1. If yes call them to report, if no go request.

I study a lot from your website before decided to get cc. Hence, upon applying for cc at The Garden, I directly asked them to set sms alert for transactions above RM1.

You have to call Customer Service and set the SMS alert to RM1. AND once this is activated, you will get a sms from MBB stating so.

when you call the cs, you mentioned that you want to request sms alert for all transactions? or you mentioned that you want to set rm1 as the minimum to trigger the alert? if can just request sms alert for all transactions, does it mean they will set it at 5 sen? lol...

my first intention is get all money transaction even rm0.01, so i request for "all transaction", mana tau, when I change pin at ATM, also will triggle sms alert RM0.00 bla bla bla change pin.

should be no charge, because the sms received content is starting RM0.00

Called CS  and found that the default amount to trigger transaction notification SMS is RM1000 and above. Asked them to change and according to them it will take a day for it to be done. Will update later.

Just to update, I asked them set to RM1, tested with paywave, pinpay and online retail, all receiving alert sms icon_idea.gif

Affin bank stopped SMS service already. Users are advisable to check your Affin account frequently.
