nope. your income will be derived from Singapore. therefore, you'll only be taxed in SG.

eh guys, buy low-end phone for sister, better to buy here or in KL? i sort of remember SG supposed to be cheaper cos no import duty (but offset by GST?), but it's been ages since I bought a low-end handset.

Also ... us wp/sp/ep holders still can get GST refund at airport?

Don't think mobile phones are cheaper here anymore.. Almost most electronic items I surveyed are more expensive in SG. Except for mobile phone with plans included. In certain times LCD TV could be cheaper and newer release.

NO. don't buy in singapore. With the current exchange rate, its much cheaper to get them in malaysia. Don't go to the shopping complexes, go to smaller shops or emporiums to get the best deal. I bought Samsung Colby II for S$ 180 but in malaysia it only cost around RM 360. Moreover, the warranty is only in Singapore so its going to be troublesome if something happens to the phone. So far, I think the money earn in Singapore if spent in Malaysia no matter if its Electrical , electronic or shirt is cheaper.

Recently it's very competitive in the job market in SG as mentioned by a few of the members here.

Just placed your salary competitive amongst the group of fresh grats and then express yourself confidently and positively in the interview, then your chances will be better.

This is so true.
My best friend is a recruiter for one of the most recognised recruitment firm in Sg and the world and we regularly talk about the candidates in the market.

And I can tell you all for a fact that the competition is VERY, VERY stiff in SG, especially for good jobs in MNC. A lot of the times, ones qualification and skills in M'sia might make you a well sought/above average person in yr field in M'sia, but if you come here, you are merely one of the average ones.

Point in case is the ACCA qualification. A lot of people in M'sia think by getting an ACCA is a definate advantage over the rest, i can assure you its not the case here. In fact getting a degree (preferably from those NUS, NTU or 1st tier Overseas degree) is more highly valued that ACCA. The perception here is that one only takes prof qualification if one cannot obtain places in a university. Here even auntie and uncle in their 40s have ACCA(nightcourse).

I was also told certain experience, especially those relating to sales and marketing (unless the exp gained in M'sia is regional - which is rare) gained in M'sia is completely useless and not even considered coz employers till think the market here and the market in M'sia is different.

And finally, those on WP are strongly urged to upgrade yr skills and certs(and as a result upgrade yr passes to S-pass or EP along with salary) to ensure 1) you don't get made redundant when the SG gov comes out with another levy or further restriction on foreign manpower (i was told it is currently being drafted) 2) To show Singaporeans that we are NOT rubbish, which clearly, most singaporean tend to view us as.(Maybe they don't say it straight in yr face or show it out through their actions, but believe me, alot (especially those true blue Singaporeans) still do!)

Where is the largest bookstore in Singapore? I'm looking for specific profession related books but most bookstores are small and don't have what I want.

Kinokuniya at Ngee Ann City or Borders at Wheelock. Try the Central Library too. Or just buy online.
