A is for those who get homesick easily, like to live with their parents and go mamak. Basically status quo. But guess what, unless you're significantly above average, your salary's not going to get much more than tht.

B is the choice for those who have a maximum net savings objective. Lower tax and better exchange rate than Malaysia. Same cost of living (S$ for RM if you can see the logic of HDB flat = terrace house in MY, as the mainstream middle-class accommodation). I would also venture that the MNC in SG is a regional operation while it's a country operation in MY. So the opportunities for promotion would be higher in SG.

C is for those who die-die must live with their former colonial masters. The GBP has lost much of its former strength. With the taxes and living costs in UK, this is probably the most "living like a Bangla" option of the 3.

Thank you for your reply. That is a very interesting insight from you.

A or B is fine but definitely no C. The UK economy is S*it now. Friend who came back from UK told me the government laid of 20k public servants.

If u had a choice to go China. When I was in China I was having the time of my life!!

I wish I can go back there......
*
Yeah, the economy in UK and Europe is doing very poorly now and with the current exchange rate, it seems there is more reason to work in Singapore. The salary range is comparable. I don't know about China. haha, I have a friend who worked in China after graduated. He went back to Malaysia after less than 2 years. He told us about his food poisoning experience.

Can anyone briefly share with me regarding EP application? The HR personal informed me that she has sent the IPA to my home address and I should be getting it soon. I have this idea that I can work using the IPA then collect the EP when I am in Singapore. Am I right thinking this way?

I am confused because from previous replies in the forum, I note that some people actually have gotten their EP pass before starting their work in Singapore. Can anyone please help me to clarify? Thank you in advance.

Any good recommendation where to find a place to stay if work near Suntec Tower? Any kang tau?

I searched for my accomodation using FlatsDB website. There a lot of rooms for rent listed on the site. I think the only drawback is the rooms are advertised by agents which means agent fee is unavoidable.

The real issue when it comes to question working in Malaysia or Singapore, is standard of living vs quality of life. Of course this does not apply to expatriates.
*
I think its good to venture away from ones comfort zone especially at young age to gain more working and life experience. A good pay can be a good motivating factor to work harder and ignore some of the miseries of being away from home. But I doubt I will be staying in Singapore for good in my life - looking at somewhere less stressful , for that case Malaysia is wonderful.

Dont mind sharing your dark experience ? It helps me and the rest to mentally prepare for the worst XD

I worked overseas for two years and experience racist remarks and criticism from colleagues and managers that I felt unfair. I like the job, just can't handle the environment although it got slightly better after I completed my first project. It was a good experience but I gave up , returned to Malaysia and worked in Malaysia for four months in the same industry but in a much bigger company. The work atmosphere is so different - so relaxing but boring at the same time, insufficient work to cover my 9 hours in the office, and very little career prospect. I have decided to move on to another job within the first month of working in that company.

well my story is quite diffrnt frm urs actually. My 6 years was in canada during my study period. Its canada so racism is not an issue. Its there ofcoz but not as bad as in other country like russia n german (got friends study there). The people r okay, friendly and very helpfull once u break d ice. Wut bother me is the weather...  shakehead.gif ..i cant stand it..oways catch a cold..n during winter its cloudy all months!! Its effect ur mood n mindset..depressing...seriously, i almost dropout of college in my 3rd year of study..luckly got gf and no jakim  brows.gif survived!! Been to LA for the lakers game a few times..the pizza cashier one up my size coz she tought i'm a loco.. tongue.gif well..the main reason i wont go out of malaysia again - food n weather (my body just not up for it). Hey, u gotta be some big shot genius!! Can quit job as u like n still got another job at bigger company... notworthy.gif

i think i'm out of the topic..sorry TS!!! Singapore got racist meh? Nvr been there.. hmm.gif
*
Interesting. I was in the same situation as you but in a milder form. I hate the weather in UK the most and most of the time managed to survive through their local chinese dishes from take out shop to satisfy my cravings. I can start counting my left over hairs now XD. It wasnt a decision to quit based on emotions. I was struggling to cope with my life there, the economic situation was also bad, very few opportunities for career advancement as well.
I think oversea grads chances to get a job in a MNC in Malaysia is high- qualification on paper is looked upon highly here haha, I dont regard myself as a big shot genius as what youve said, just being lucky coupled with some determination.

This is my story.

Canada.
Studied in Canada for  3.3 yrs in Canada, weather is f-ed, cold cold cold. During the time there I never went back to Malaysia. I was achieving a lot there. Became well known. There was a price to pay, I had depression. Was very moody and could not sleep. Had to work, volunteer, and go to school.
On the bright side, had a great Taiwanese gf. Lasted 10 yrs and we just broke up. I am very heart broken right now.

Japan.
Since people knew about me and though I could apply for a job in Japan. So I was in Japan for a year. Japan was different from what people expected. Looking in from the outside u cant get the real picture unless u live there.

Taiwan
Taiwan was like Malaysia in a way but way better. People are nice. I was there for 1.5 yrs until i got disillusioned with life and left her to get a grip on reality and life.

China
By the time I was China I was feeling fine. China is an incredible place. Unlike Japan which looks good from the outside but not really great inside, China is the opposite. From the outside China looks bad but when I was there I had a great time. Met lots of cool people. This is where I broke up with my Taiwanese gf.

Singapore
Since breaking up having no support network, I'm moving to a place that is bit more familiar to heal my soul. My mother is in Singapore, so, this is the best place for me. I will be there really soon like next Monday or something. Was there off and on for my interviews.

I have lived my life to the fullest and I have one regret; I lost her.

Living in so many countries I believe I come out stronger now.

The sad thing is coming from my background now its hard for me to live in Malaysia. I look at this country and I am seriously disappointed. Its not moving forward; instead, its moving backwards. Last Sunday when I was having dinner at a Malay area, I saw a young girl wearing a veil; she must think its fashionable, but she knows not the repercussion of an Islamic state.

Money I dont have much, but stories and experience I do have bag full.

In two years I plan to come back to Malaysia and do day trading.

If if things go as planned I can live anywhere in the would. I would probably live in Taipei/Phuket/China depending on the season.
Well thats my live story. As for now I am waiting to see who is my next life partner!

Sorry if I am a bit long winded!  rclxm9.gif

You have interesting stories to tell and sorry to hear about your relationship. Time will heal.

May I ask what you will be working as in Singapore? Sounds like investment banking.

Thanks, you're right time will heal my wounds.

I was thinking about that but I could not pass my CFA.

I am an English Teacher.

Investment Banking is a great field but I dont think I would be able to do it.

The whole world is in a mess because of banking; well thats my own opinion and another story. If you know about the American mortgage fall out and how it happened you will know why.

Oh, one more bit, my major was international business management. So I do know a bit about finance.

Question, If u were to choose between a Diploma from Cambridge or a Masters from Monash, which would you choose?
*
Teaching, honourable profession that is!
Yeah, but most money comes from investment banking, the pressure is there, can't imagine how those fund managers tolerate the stress level. Its already that stressful looking at the index for a 3 dollar share that I bought recently.
For your question, since you have a choice to do a masters, I suspect that you have already obtained your bachelor degree. In terms of course content, I suspect a master course will benefit you. I see no point moving a step backwards and learn something that you probably already know. I am not sure on which level are you planning on do your teaching but to teach in a university as a lecturer you will need at least a Masters in the relevant subject. Although Cambridge reputation exceeds Monash and employers do check out in this point when they hire their people, it's still not worth it. Another thing I can advise is for you to check the university ranking table for the specific course that you will be taking if you into comparing university's qualification.

Remember that your start date should fall on the weekdays. XD
I don't think part time job is needed on the form, the reason they ask you to fill that section is to gauge whether you have relevant experience to your applied position. If your part time job (maybe an internship) is relevant then its worth mentioning.

Thanks.

Right now I am contemplating two options. Get my masters and get stuck in the rat race (work life) or get out and do day trading which entails studying by myself; which I am not good at.

I have been wanting to do day trading since a long time ago but never had the guts to do.

One of my old friends is currently doing it in London. He was a lawyer with his masters; he got sick of working for people and eventually went into it.

He's doing okay.

Talking about trading. I think holding a stock for a long time or short time is an emotional roller coaster ride. We need to master our emotions and have a game strategy. Easier said than done actually.

I think it all boils down to what you really want to do as a career. It doesnt matter how other people are doing, its a matter of your interest and your capability in that area. For me I would like to have a stable job with stable income. As for additional income, I would do some investment including trading stocks.

I think you better hold on to your job and keep searching until you find an employer that can apply EP pass for you. Just treat it as another life work experience. Who knows what awaits you in your next job? maybe better or it might be worse.

You can do volunteer work at a number of charities.

My personal favourite is SPCA, a bonus is there are alot of chicks which hang out as well.
*
Oh I love to do something like that ! I even had thought about doing it weekends when I start working in Singapore.
Contributing to the animal kingdom while having the company of chicks... its a win win situation!
Heck, I need some to keep myself alive in Singapore! Any hangout groups for Malaysian expat?

Em, I have such plan in mind also, looking forward to go to Aus. Its all still too early for me so ill work hard in Singapore first and get a good grounding. I heard now is the chance, they are needing people esp engineers but still, difficult for foreigners to get job. Apparently, many got rejected because they dont have Aus PR and local working experience. But the pay there..fuhh,,, lucrative... I thought i was happy with my Spore salary until I spoke to a friend who is working there.

hey man.. i never encounter this problem when i get a job there on this WHY SINGAPORE smile.gif

Maybe the interviewer trying to be funny with you as you know the Kiasu fella always do....

The answer you can give them are:
1. Singapore is the regional hub for many MNC (As mentioned by some), the opportunities and learnings are wide
2. Moving towards overseas opportunity as you would like to learn from the best
3. Overseas experience which have almost the same culture and language easily to adapt with

Do not ever said about the conversion rate or how bad Malaysia is as this is a sensitive answers. (The conversion rate is so interesting smile.gif)

Hope this helps?

(** I had PM you already)
*
It is a heartache to have such a high conversion rate when I have not even started to work in Singapore. vmad.gif

If there are other busses, please let me know since these are the only three in singapore that i've used and know about.
Close but the other site has the flight databases for tiger, jetstar, airasia and silk air which are mainly budget airlines.

Zuji is more like for the mainstream airlines.

Dear all,I've already sign offer letter with 1 company here&already done
the medical check up,now I only waiting for the result..at the same time I also
do have call the company few time & asked about I'm selected or not..
In the meanwhile I also attend other interview & I do selected also..my question is there any law action agains me if I'm choose to work with second company,& ignore the 1st company because it's already almost 1 month I'm waiting for the result..
*
May I know what industry are you in?
I got my full medical check up result in less than 4 hours time. I personally spoke to the doctor and ask him to advise me on the outcome. I was anxious too at that time. It then takes a while before the HR received the medical report which was posted by the clinic. After a week of no reply from the HR, I called her and she confirmed that I passed the check up. So just give them a ring.
After all the check up and agreement of acceptance, i suggest you stick to your first job. The medical check up is not cheap and will cost quite a fortune if you reject the offer. Mine was RM800!

Anyone with any idea about Exxonmobil Singapore in Pulau Ayer Chawan? It is an integrated refinery and chemical plant in one complex? How is the working environment? Any information about this will be helpful. Thank you !
