QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 22 2011, 09:35 PM) A lot of people underestimate how much they need to retire, and therefore set that limit wrongly. They don't anticipate that they will most probably get sick for a long time and need a lot of money for treatment. Most people think they will be healthy up to the last day and then die peacefully in their sleep. Most people are not so lucky. you are what you think. If you worry so much, then you are stressful then your body is weak

QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 24 2011, 11:01 AM) Go to Samsung showroom at Vivocity. I bought my Tab there on launch day as well, despite it supposedly being a telco-exclusive launch. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:03 amTrue, my logic is that if I'm out of Ipoh, doesn't matter if it's KL, SG, HK etc. I'm still simply away from home. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:04 amIf you like not having to ask Steve Jobs for permission to do everything, you'll enjoy it. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:05 amI absolutely agree. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:07 amWith the current and upcoming Android devices, it's going to be a pretty good fight. Apple will always have its base market of irrational people who like being shafted. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:09 amIf it comes one day, I'll welcome it. But I won't go stand in bars buying free drinks looking for it. Besides, the effect of marriage (and kids) is that your savings limit simply needs to be much higher. Added on June 24, 2011, 11:14 amI give away my old phones to my brother and cousins in Ipoh. you are very good la care ur brother, so ur expectation seems very high to find Ms.Right although you have 6 figure income? I believe you will be easy to get brides la. Added on June 27, 2011, 1:43 pmQUOTE(seantang @ Jun 24 2011, 10:49 PM) Android phones are not "jailed" in the first place. App developers can produce whatever the heck apps they want. Loads of free apps too. Most free apps are practically the same as paid versions due to the advertising. Having said that, you can "root" the phone to gain access to developer or manufacturer options. For instance, I am considering rooting the Tab in order to manually control the clock speed of the processor. Once you root your Android phone, you will lose the warranty? QUOTE(francisbacon7 @ Jun 28 2011, 09:15 PM) More than 70% of this generation of Singaporeans have a tertiary education. 100% of those Singaporeans you're competing with with have a degree or better. 100% of those foreign immigrants that you're competing with have a degree or better. 60% of the 50 accountants in my company's accounting service center in Singapore have a professional qualification. 40% of have a Masters degree. 25% have a Masters and a professional qualification or better. Probably u dont understand audit line..or probably i am not that outstanding, yes, i applied some smaller firm as well.. I just wonder, even my friends which is much more not that "outstanding", they are manage to get an offer. of course, they get offer frm smaller firm n salary range 1.8-2.3k Seriously, why don't you apply big 4 malaysia? 4k ringgit is better than 1.8k sgd. In sg, 1.2k is minimum to live well.

QUOTE(francisbacon7 @ Jun 28 2011, 10:44 PM) Cant really survive in Big four, their workload is crazy. it is not a long term job. that why I only applied for small medium firm. honestly, RM4k < SGD2.8k...life of living in KL is high, criminal is high as well. Do you know some companies in sg the local one even worse. My friend has to do unpaid OT and her salary is only 1.8k. And my cousin has 4 yrs exp in HP and huawei, ccnp holder got 2.7k. And you with unknown company and 2 yrs exp expect 2.8k. No wonder they don't look at your resume Added on June 28, 2011, 11:18 pmQUOTE(crazy25kid @ Jun 28 2011, 10:55 PM) But won't most small medium firms likely not accept your pay demands? Not quite sure about the workload, but from what I hearing, accounting/audit/finance line seems to have extensive working hours in Sg. Well, you can't really listen to just what I say about this, right? You might get lucky with a firm who does not have such scary workload and pays good. my cousin's friend has worked at Kepiemji for 1.5 yrs , and she can't make it at big 4 sgapore, and was offered 2.3k by small audit firm in sg, then she rejected it la. QUOTE(mercury8400 @ Jul 1 2011, 11:49 AM) This is so true. My best friend is a recruiter for one of the most recognised recruitment firm in Sg and the world and we regularly talk about the candidates in the market. And I can tell you all for a fact that the competition is VERY, VERY stiff in SG, especially for good jobs in MNC. A lot of the times, ones qualification and skills in M'sia might make you a well sought/above average person in yr field in M'sia, but if you come here, you are merely one of the average ones. Point in case is the ACCA qualification. A lot of people in M'sia think by getting an ACCA is a definate advantage over the rest, i can assure you its not the case here. In fact getting a degree (preferably from those NUS, NTU or 1st tier Overseas degree) is more highly valued that ACCA. The perception here is that one only takes prof qualification if one cannot obtain places in a university. Here even auntie and uncle in their 40s have ACCA(nightcourse). I was also told certain experience, especially those relating to sales and marketing (unless the exp gained in M'sia is regional - which is rare) gained in M'sia is completely useless and not even considered coz employers till think the market here and the market in M'sia is different. And finally, those on WP are strongly urged to upgrade yr skills and certs(and as a result upgrade yr passes to S-pass or EP along with salary) to ensure 1) you don't get made redundant when the SG gov comes out with another levy or further restriction on foreign manpower (i was told it is currently being drafted) 2) To show Singaporeans that we are NOT rubbish, which clearly, most singaporean tend to view us as.(Maybe they don't say it straight in yr face or show it out through their actions, but believe me, alot (especially those true blue Singaporeans) still do!) how about CPA Australia?

QUOTE(seantang @ Jul 4 2011, 02:00 PM) For white goods, I usually go to Carrefour. If you have POSB's Everyday mastercard, you get 5% rebate to spend on your next purchase. And every other month or so, they will have a 10% weekend promotion for the card. 10% and the hypermarket prices to begin with, is pretty cheap. Otherwise, I usually go to Courts or Fairprice Xtra (hypermart), namely because they're in AMK. Harvey Norman's okay as well but not convenient for me. Just a while back, I picked up a 42" LG plasma tv display set for $499 from Courts (in Orchard though). Seantang do you play stock markets? In what things do you invest your money?

QUOTE(seantang @ Jul 4 2011, 04:32 PM) Both. QUOTE(Materazzi) FD is low return. As is the risk exposure. QUOTE(Materazzi) What yield/ yr do you expect? Property is to fight inflation. Capital gain on top of that is a bonus. FD is standard yield. It's to balance risk. Shares is 5-8% dividend yield mostly. Capital gain on top of that is a bonus. I think the risk will be zero if you invest in a good company. Wow, I think property in Sg overpriced? If you have S$1 million, better retire while doing stock trading or still working in S$3k salary?
