No, it was not so smooth as I think. I started to work after my final exam in April 2009. I was too excited to apply for PR then as I heard from many said that Msian can obtain PR easily, even with less than 6 months of working experiences (that was b4 Spore population hit 5 millions in August 2009). For those applied after June 2009, I hardly heard good news.

1st Time
29 Aug 2009 => Got rejected on 27 Nov 2009  cry.gif heart-broken

2nd Time
19 Jun 2010 => Got rejected on 5 Dec 2010  cry.gif heart-broken again, very sad
Appealed on Jan 2011 => ....................
Received approval letter just now, finally  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
What's the difference between appeal ? and new application after your 2nd time.
I also applied in Jan 2011 but got rejected. Started working here end 2009.

I appealed for my second time PR application.  smile.gif

Appeal: Online booking for an appointment, submit appeal letter together with supporting documents (salary increment letter...).
Re-apply: Online booking for an appointment, submit all documents, just like the first application.

All the best and good luck  smile.gif Never give up.

I heard that before, I am not sure how true is it.
BTW, it's considered my 2nd try  brows.gif appealed on second application.
*
why u choose appeal and not new application ? cause your salary increment is very significant ? or you got any clues on why u got rejected ?

I think it's easier to opt for Starhub using the cable tv lines... I assume all rooms that we are going to rent shall be provided with a TV line rather than a phone line.

I've been using starhub tv line and shifting is easy.. no need any owner's signature for approval for phone line installation.

Some question to ask about Malaysia E-filling income tax..

I'm EP holder working in Singapore, so for filling up income tax for Malaysia we should be filling up as individu tidak bermastautin right ?

It seems that I have asked a few friends also working in SG.. and they never know about this issue ? they just filled up zero income. .

How did u guys fill ? any correct answers here ?

Sounds like the guy in mgt who needs to approve your hiring is not as keen as the guy who is very keen to hire you.

IMHO, no point calling again. The guy who wants to hire you obviously hit a road block (best case) or got shot down (worst case). All you can do is wait and hope that the guy who wants you is powerful or persuasive enough to overcome the road block. They need time to work it to a conclusion.

In the meantime, keep looking for another opportunity.

I got a funny situation here... I attended the interview around august.. then only start working in mid october. It took more than a month to get the big boss' approval. Apparently the company is not a huge organisation but just that the big approving boss is not around to sign the papers.. so nothing could be done other than waiting. But I do get some kind of verbal confirmation from the hiring manager la...

I did a tax clearance before I left Malaysia and closed my tax file with LHDN.

Anyway, income is only taxable in Malaysia only if it is earned in Malaysia.

Your friends have got it right, imho. By entering anything besides zero, you are declaring that you have earned income in Malaysia (which if you are working in Singapore, your income is earned outside Malaysia). That's the simple truth.

If you declare you have income earned in Malaysia and tick "individu tidak bermastautin" - all you've done is say that you're not a tax resident (ie. was not in Malaysia for >182 days) but still managed to earn income in Malaysia. You will get taxed.
*
Hi seantang,

What exactly is tax clearance that you meant ? and what's the procedure of closing tax file ?

so what you are saying is we should fill as :
- individu tidak bermastautin
- Zero income.

my friends all filled up individu bermastautin and zero income. ...

Just call MOM or ICA or both.

Checked with MOM previously, it's possible to apply for a new EP with In principle approval before u even resign.
Then only they officially terminate the old EP.

R u certain?...because my GF who still holds EP still needs to go thru the normal Q. When we ask the immigration officer, the officer replied that she'll need to go thru the normal Q...can't go for the electronic cleareance without that access card
*
Its certain for Ep holders.. As of end of 2009, all new EP applications have already got their fingers print and passport scanned into database before they get EP card.

Its been tested.. At woodlands, 2nd link checkpoints and also at airport. U can go thru singapore / Pr lane with the machine. Only use passport no need EP even easier

What info you need to provide MOM when u renew ur passport?
Great updates. Any way if temporarily EP holder, they call it "in principle" EP as medical check up not yet done before start work are able to enjoy the automated machine lane like normal EP?
*
IPA for EP still have to come in using the white card and that's only once. After u come in, you will get your EP wITHIN a week. Just come in using normal counter.

QUOTE(walanneh @ May 6 2011, 08:49 AM)
Hi All, I was wondering whether there is anybody who've heard of cases like this and how was the matter resolved.

1.) Tenancy agreement was signed with the landlord and I was supposed to move in 30th April 2011. Deposit of 1 month rental was given.
2.) On 28th April, the landlord backed out and cited ill family members as an issue and how he wanted to use the room for his ill family member.
3.) Fortunately, I managed to find another place to stay on 30th April 2011 itself and my company allowed me to stay at the corporate hotel in the meantime.
4.) The 1st landlord till today has been fobbing me, his agent and my agent off with excuses that he is in tight financial constraints and that he requires more time to return my deposit and his agent's commision fees.
5.) Yesterday, my agent, the landlord's agent and myself went to the police station to lodge a police report. According to the police, I should to to the Small Claims Court to resolve this issue.
6.) After that, we went to the 1st landlord's place and knocked on his door for 1/2 hour as we saw him hiding inside his house with all his windows open but he refused to see us.

I'll look into the Small Claims court but I'll like your opinions.

Thanks a bunch.

P.S Last week was my 1st week in Singapore and I already kena conned....... Looking on the bright side, at least I learn this lesson quickly.
*
Well, generally renting a room here its pretty straight forward. I think your case is one of the isolated one... its good that u went thru agent and signed all the tenancy stuffs..

I do know of many who just go by trust basis and then they don't have any black and white.. Would be troublesome to report at least. One of the good thing of signing..

Correct.  All foreigners seeking PRship in Singapore will face severe curtails in obtaining them unless they are are highly qualified, occupy senior management positions and (as a bonus) are Chinese Malaysians.

The Singaporean backlash against India Indians occupying corporate positions have been especially acute.
*
Heard many sayings about india Indians issue in Singapore.. u have any references ? I would like to read more about it.. What are the problems exactly ?

Hi, just to ask if anyone here using starhub home broadband service? Recerntly my internet coneection is not stable and called starhub centre to check. They suspect the modem is faulty and will send technician to come over to check again. I asked the customer service ppl if the modem is faulty, can i get one from IT shop or somewhere online to replace it. He said cannot be done because my service is tag to the modem registered under my name so if i would to get an used 1 the used modem probably would already tagged to the seller's name so must be purchased from Starhub itself. I ask if i can purchase from the seller and change the modem to my name and he said cannot. There is no way to do so..

Just to verify if that is the real case?

I asked him how much they sell and he said around 90buck. wah lao eh, i can get an used 1 for only 20buck +/- and they charge me 90buck.
*
I'm also on starhub.

IIRC... that's what I heard before regarding the tagging of a modem to your name..

But so far I got no issue, so never really care about it. In shops outside I've never seen a modem with cable connections..

Guys quick ques about cellphones. Malaysia you can convert a prepaid line to postpaid and keep same number. Singapore telcos also same? Any recommendation for provider? Will be in temporary accomodation for a couple of weeks.

[edit] also ... any comment on following housing areas: tampines, pasir ris, bedok? tampines/pasir ris seems to be similar pricing at sgd 2.2-2.6k for 1xxx sq ft HDB. Bedok seems way more exp at sgd 2+k for 600-700 sq ft apt - but company got feeder bus direct from bedok mrt to office.
*
AS per my info 1.5 years ago.. generally prepaid for Singtel is non convertible at all.. you don't get to retain your no.

Malaysia can - I changed my hotlink to maxis postpaid like 2 years ago, kept same number.

Sigh sucks that Singapore can't do that ... I'd need a SG line ASAP but then I don't have proper address/whatever yet ... hurm ...
*
yes malaysia one can convert anyway round... worse case.. just pay money if converting back from postpaid to prepaid.. that's what i've done on maxis.. Prepaid to postpaid and now back to prepaid.

SG line ? need proper address ? if have EP then put company's address

Yes...I agree it is hard to apply for M'sian PR.
Why? Cause there is no system.
My colleague has failed in his countless attempts to apply for M'sian PR.
Imagine this...the wife is Malaysian, the kids is Malaysian...yet him (the husband and father of the kids) needs to apply for Visa just to go Malaysia.
If we are to say about buying PRship...I believe we can buy M'sian PRship at a "cheaper" price than 2mil.
*
looking at this.. i suddenly thought.. could we just get a Malaysian PR with the right relationship ??
like a friend of some big shots ?

i heard those shipyard only offer high salary with up to 10 month bonus annually. Other jobs, erm........ 5 yrs experience around 3.5k sgd for a engineer is common. If u have bus driving license, u can earn more than everyone initially.  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Bus driving license ?

I don't think shipyard's salary is high ... maybe in range of 2.5k to 3.5k.. but they might get additional pay due to OT. Of course high bonuses.

Hi,

If I havent worked in SG for few years and I want to renew my PR, will it be possible? I was transferred to another country by my company, so it's not like I left SG on purpose.

Can I still renew the PR even if I am not working in SG at the time of renewal application?

I also heard some rumours that government is forcing PRs to convert to citizen such as rejecting the PR renewal. Is this true?

Hi all, IT Show is coming soon and I'm planning to apply for broadband. Have some questions here regarding which broadband should I choose. Currently I'm using my 3G tethering and at times it is pretty slow & unstable...
I need a stable connection as I'll mainly use it for VPN access. Should I go for cable or mobile broadband? Need suggestions for budget broadband below $50/month. Are all broadband subscriptions come with contract?

By the way, the room I'm currently staying has a Starhub TV port, if I apply for Starhub cable modem, can I apply it without going through my house owner?

Thanks.

Added on June 5, 2011, 1:27 am
If you have the time, can try to log a complaint to SG consumer association...
*
You can apply Starhub without going thru the owner. It's pretty easy. The installation guys don't need to come over to do anything. We just plug in and wait for their activation. It's pretty easy. I got a 2mbps plan for around SGD 22. The speed is pretty much there. it's not slow.. most of the time I'm getting more than 1mbps..

But most of the plan will have to sign 2 years then u get free modem, activation and mostly everything.. no need to pay a thing. If u sign for higher plans u might as well get a free laptop or even macbook ?
