Sager Midern Computer, Inc., is an OEM computer manufacturer specializing in laptop computers. The company is generally publicly referred to as Sager Notebook Computer, as indicated by their website[1]. Sager, for short, is publicly recognizable for its high end gaming laptops. However, Sager offers a wide variety of services, including solutions for mobile gaming, video editing, and business applications[1]. In addition to selling physical hardware, Sager also offers complete support and repair services for all Clevo based Laptops. This service is offered even if the laptop was not ordered through Sager, although in that case the user must pay in full for all services provided. Although the company sells laptops via its own website, it also utilizes numerous resellers who sell the laptops with the Sager brand name.

Tuesday, March 8th 2011 (obtain from xoticpc.com) Sager Gaming Laptops Released featuring the new Generation 2 Intel i7 Sandy Bridge Processors are now shipping with the newly revised Sandy Bridge Chips.
1. Sager and Clevo have consulted together and have decided that both Sager and Clevo will halt all pending shipments of Intel 6 series chipset systems. Models include Sager NP5160, NP5170, NP8130, NP8150, NP8170. (Clevo: W150HNQ, W170HN, P150HM, P151HM1, P170HM).
2. The current schedule is that starting in the middle of Feb 2011, Intel will start supplying qualification samples of the new revision of Intel 6 series chipset to Clevo. Clevo RD and QC will make it their first priority to test and qualify this new chip revision and prepare for mass production.
3. Currently the mass production version of the revised 6 series is scheduled to begin delivery from Intel to Clevo in limited quantities at the end of Feb 2011. We estimate that we will resume limited quantity shipment of Sager models NP8130, NP8150, and NP8170 in the middle of March 2011 and limited quantity of NP5160, NP5170 models at the end of March to the beginning of April 2011. (20 Apr '11) Sager NP5175 (Clevo W170HR) with i7 processor and nVIDIA GT555 2GB GDDR3 Optimus Technology is up for pre-order.
(12 Apr '11) AMD Radeon HD6970m 2GB GDDR5 is up for sale on all resellers at the upgrade price of USD$245 Standalone card with heatsink @ USD$550 (only for NP8150, from RJTECH.com)
Affective Model - NP8150, NP8170 and NP7280.
(07 Apr '11) http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clev...ed-apr-7-a.html The Sager NP8170 system will be split into 2 internal models, one with an NVIDIA GPU and the other with an AMD GPU. Note that these two models each require their own system version and GPUs will NOT be interchangeable. So, if you order an NVIDIA GPU system you will not be able to swap to an AMD GPU later, and vice versa.
System Freezing Issues: With help from many of , users, we have been able to sort out all the issues that were causing system freezing, and have worked with Clevo to resolve them. To just share some quick facts – since the B2 to B3 chipset revision, sager has shipped over 3000 units and we have only received one freezing system report, and that was a notebookreview forum user. Even this isolated incident was resolved by our latest BIOS revision.

Access Two DIMM Rams under the Keyboard (might applicable to other models)
Fix and hack graphics driver INF to latest version
QUOTE(carbonytte @ Mar 27 2011, 10:32 PM)
ok found it.
quite hard to find actually, but the nvcv.inf (Clevo information file for nVidia graphic driver installer) isn't update, the driver id is there, but NP8130 hardware id wasn't.
i modified nvcv.inf and do the proper modification.
2) Replace the old nvcv.inf (you'll find it at C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\267.76\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver)
3) Run setup.exe (C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\267.76\Vista 64-bit\International)
many thanks to pewufod who initiated the idea of hacking the driver inf file

NP8130 - 15.6" Matte screen (can be upgradeable to Glossy, and different contrast ratios), GTX 460m, 120W power adapter, black plastic finish, 1 HDD + 1 Optical bay. The GPU can be upgradable...but due to the 120W adaptor, it probably won't receive enough power to handle more powerful ones. Sager will tell you what can be supported in this model.
NP8150 - 15.6" Glossy screen (Can be upgradable to Matte, different contrast ratios and screen selections for certain resellers), GTX 460m/GTX 485m, 180W Power adaptor, greyish rubber finish, 1 HDD + 1 optical bay.
NP8170 - 17" inch screen, Glossy screen (Matte upgrade too), 2 HDD bays + 1 Optical bay, Aluminum finish, GTX 460/470/485m, 180W adapter (I think it is).
All of these are totally upgradable; GPU, CPU, HDD, RAM, heatsinks, LCDs, TV tuners + Sim Modules (older Sager models do, most likely possible with these), wireless cards. Extra HDD can be placed in replacement of the CD-Drive bay.

Compare the Sager notebook model you have selected with other gaming notebooks based on the spec, warranty and price before purchase.
I cant wait for intel to release the fixed 6 series chipset. Has anyone try to purchase laptop from CubeHub asia? It seems abit more cheaper than mucro does.

mucro offers warranty from sager and mucro itself, while cubehub offers sager warranty. i believe that's the reason the cubehub offers cheap laptop.

congrats on the new thread!
soundsyst64 you use which model? no personal review?
money is not enough yo. i want to take either NP8150/8170
Should update ourselves with our current owners and the upcoming owners
Also, in the "Where to buy" section, you should put the country that the reseller is from...for reference Some of us may be overseas and wanting to buy Sager from the respective countries.
Put me as a future NP8150 and an ex-NP8690 Think some others would be buying some soon.

Sunshine Coast pretty far from Brisbane Center. I don't have a car either haha, but I have been there for the beaches

The King Kong (NP8170), the Godzilla (NP8150), Minizilla (NP8130), Orang Utan (Np5170) will not be released till the chipsets are shipped out to the local resellers. You can expect it to be about March - April.
Haha..should I get from Mucro or CubeHub? seems cubehub offer alot cheaper price between those 2.. or should i get from our forumer selling it..
Differences between those most probably on warranty eh...hmm
Haha I couldn't think of anything else for a name.
Anyway, if you really rely on warranty then Mucro is for you. I believe there's a Mucro sales rep in this forum (user: Mucro.Asia), you can "negotiate" with him. However, buying from the forums will also give you the chance to negotiate with the forumer as well; I've seen some who keep spamming "pm best price pls".

Hello, I would like to ask some really stupid questions... So please forgive me. 1. Has anyone encountered the dead pixel issue, and is the insurance worth it? 2. If I order from Mucro, is it possible to pay by installment? 3. How long will it take for my machine to reach me after payment? 4. Are the orders currently in a half due to the recall issue?

1) I think it's not worth it. It's VERY rarely that you get a dead pixel on your screen. I did not encounter any.
2) That I can not answer (I didn't order from Mucro)
3) Well, with the current state of the Intel processors, you will expect your laptop to be in by about March - April.

You can check out a new website at www.cubehub.asia for Sager just for your reference so you can compare the price For buyer at oversea there will be no installment
Hmm alright, thanks for the answers. Its sad that I'll have to wait for it to settle down before I can buy one. Thanks!
i hear there are alot of backorders, best if you can order one now so you can get a spot in line as soon as possible! otherwise you'd prolly wait till end april/may before the supplies get stable.
weird thing is when i try to create an account in Malibal, Malaysia is not listed in Country section. It means Malibal didn't ship to Malaysia?
Try emailing them specifically about shipping to Malaysia. For some resellers, there are "back doors" to ordering items... e.g. LPC-Digital gave me discounts when I asked them personally, and I didn't even create an account in their website. Maybe Malibal can do the same (ordering and ship to Malaysia without registering), I'm sure.
But the main point is that it is based in US, the warranty issue would be troublesome as we need to ship it back to US for them to repair. Unless, we don't care much about the warranty?

That's probably why Sagers aren't as popular here in Malaysia, due to the costly warranty for us. It's like a do or die situation hahaha, except the "die" part has a very low probability of happening.
All this talk of getting the new models is making me interested in getting one too. My NP8690 just turned 1 year old today.
I took a look at Malibal's offer. They are cheap but once you factor into the shipping costs ($330.83), the price sky rockets to RM 7.2k. The config I chose was the NP8150-S1 because once I added the 485M, the price became Xotic's price of the NP8150 ($2054).
Hope to get an email reply from the other resellers.
Anyone know how much does the Mucro "Microsoft Office | only with OS: Microsoft Office Starter 2010" cost? Does it mean that it is not charged if we don't choose an OS or does the total price reflect the software regardless of the option we chose for the OS?
Our Service Partner is Vital Computers. Their main service branch is in Wisma SPS, Kuala Lumpur
Address is: Lot G3/4 Wisma SPS, Jalan Imbi 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Oh they do have a service center in Malaysia!

Haha congrats on your 1st Anniversary NP8690. Mine turned 1 year old a month ago, but already sold to a respectful owner here. Still going strong I would think?
Try looking at LPC-Digital; they offered me with $149 for shipping to Malaysia for the NP8150.
And, It's more than likely that the total price in regards to the software won't change even if you select the No-OS option. Only the OS price will be deducted from the total price, but the software price is still there, mainly because it is more or less free.

How much do you guys think I can sell off my NP8690 for right now? LPC-Digital gave me a great quote on the NP8150-S1 and I'm thinking of taking the plunge. XD The warranty for this laptop is actually 2 years now that I've checked again. :| I thought it was only one year. So yeah.... Tell me what you guys think.
Core i7 720QM 4GB RAM 320GB 7200RPM HDD (WD Scorpio Black) ATi MR5870HD Intel 5300 WiFi Link
I still have the old Nvidia 280M GTX as a back-up GPU, incase the HD5870 dies. So I'd probably sell that along with the laptop.

I sold mine for RM3.1K. But I had the 820QM but the GTX 280m. Maybe yours will be a bit more because of the ATi 5870m.

Hi for 2720QM it is better to use 1600 ram rite? If yes then why Mucro don have an option for 1600 ram?
From what I heard at notebookreview, there are only 2 RAM slots in the new Sager models that support 1600MHz. Some resellers do not have that option either...bit confused. This email is what I got from LPC-Digital:
"Sorry. Sager and our other Clevo factory in California are only using the 1333MHz memory. If you check around to the authorized dealers in the US that is what they are using up to now. For one I do know that Sager has not yet approved any 1600 DDR3 yet. The guidelines are maybe more strict. Of course some 1600 DDR3 memory may work well in these systems."
So it's possible that Mucro's factory doesn't have 1600MHz yet.

RM 3.1k? That's too cheap. I was expecting at least 3.5 ~ 3.8k. Ahh well... I'd just have to try my luck with the people here and at ebay. XD
I sold it in Lowyat garage sale (on my successful trade in sig). Originally I offered RM4K because it was only one year old. But seeing others are offering the 5870m for a bit cheaper (around your price range), then I felt sad. I was also offering complete wipe, no OS and no bag/drivers included. These other factors made it supposedly cheaper.
The person that bought it also ask for lower, so I gave him a better price. But I'm pretty sure you can sell it for higher due to your 5870m.
NP8130 (2630QM/2720QM + GTX 460M) = NP8690 (920/940XM + HD 5870M) in terms of performance. Sure the Sandy Bridge CPUs are faster but the bottle neck of that model comes from the GPU. The NP8130 can't support the XM model of the new SB while the NP8690 can still be upgraded to the XM model of its generation.
I think if I try and sell for around 3.5k ~ 3.8k, it should still pass because I have an extra GPU that goes with the package (GTX 280M). I still haven't decided on whether or not to sell this baby. Still thinking and gathering all the input I can.

Anyone is getting np8130? It seems there are many np8130 users encounter random freezing problem.
This is not the case. It's not only happening to Sager models but also other manufacturers.
But the thing is, there's only very handful of Sandybridge laptops that were out from January. There's not enough evidence, and not enough users to report the problem. I am wishing that the "freeze" in most laptops are fixed or ridden off after the new fix, if it really existed.

I see...aikz really hope they get rid of the problem soon. Now really make me worry whether should I go for sager..since the warranty is an issue.
Well, Sager/Clevo decided to release a new model at CeBit 2011.
A refresh of the X8100 with SB processors, dubbed the P180HM. This was their 18.4" lineup previously. Very...uncreative of Clevo. Guess that's inevitable due to the new models they've already released, bit too soon for another one I think.

I will second on the Momentus XT. It is a 500GB with an inbuilt 4GB SSD, and I'm pretty sure you will get a LOT of performance boost in comparison with the 7200RPM drive you chose.

I'm not sure if either mucro or cube.asia give that option to upgrade. Gona check it out than.
I just noticed Sager now giving upgrades to Killer Network cards. Are they a good investment for my NP8130?
If you don't need bluetooth, and want a larger range for your wireless...then you should opt for that one. The Killer network card is pretty much like a wireless gaming network card; stable but would not be as fast as the Intel 6300 Ultimate cards.

If you're gonna go with a SSD as a primary drive, get a larger drive as a secondary. No point putting the Momentus XT. You won't see much of a boost in performance with that setup. Go for the 750GB 7200RPM @ 500GB 7200 RPM option.

USD 1547 from XoticPc not including shipping charges (might go for them due to them having better warranty and reputation) (same spec's as above) (#Option 2)
---------------------
I decided to do away with the IC Diamond thermal compound trading that over for a intel 25xm SSD for performance over cooling and probably get a zalman lappy cooler. Also I do not think that Bigfoot's Killer Network card will make any significant difference (correct me if I am wrong). Overall what do you pros think of my selection? Room for improvements or upgrades you think I can throw away for and replace another?
And which reseller should I get it from taking everything into condition (Price, Before/After Sales Service, Reputation) Option #1 or Option#2? And since Sager has yet to recover from the SB flaw maybe I am missing some other sites out there or local resellers here on lowyat I could probably get my lappy from. Suggestions anyone?
And please excuse me for being indecisive just investing so much on a laptop want to get the best bang for my buck.

Hmm, I currently have enough money to buy a new laptop. But I am worried of making the wrong decision. Sager 8170 or Asus G73? I'm attracted by the backlit keyboard Asus has. Anyone have any general thoughts on what and how to choose?

If you're more into new tech (sandy bridge processor), go for NP8170

Anyway is sager customizable like dell?
Yes. You can add extra hard drive in optical drive slot (which you might get external optical drive if you choose lower model than NP8170), change cpu and gpu model (customizable GPU only for selective models)
if you compare the performance > price, sager wins.

i dont know abotu you but i was initially gonan go for the G73/G53 until i saw GTX 485m man i tell you no gamers gonna resist the GTX 485m and so this time i went for Sager, for the first time
np8130 - can add one extra hard disk in optical drive slot, able to upgrade CPU but cannot upgrade GPU NP8150 - can add one extra hard disk in optical drive slot, able to upgrade CPU and GPU up to GTX485M
i actually preferred the minimalistic look, coming from a M17x R1 i think the fugly look will actually keep greasy hands off my baby especially people who are attracted to Flashy lights
I prefer Sager over any other fancy laptop with superb artistic design like Alienware of Asus G Series and since the brand is unknown to most local malaysians everyone will probably ignore it like its a piece of crap not worth stealing.
Yeah, about the dead pixel warramty , do wr really need to buy it? Will there be any dead pixel when i buy? Lol , really wanna get n8130 edi.. How bout the speakers?

you are thinking the same thing as mine, at first i was looking at the M15x, then i found sager, straight away order sager

Hmm, does anyone know if there is someone from Mucro who has a lowyat account or to contact easily? I have questions regarding the warranty issues. Also, what does Rush Service do?

Pixel deformation or dead pixels do not happen often, if it were me I rather take the risk
Speakers for the NP8130, NP8150 and NP8170 are the 2.1 sound system, THX certified. The subwoofer is on the bottom. I do not think it'll be as great as the JBL speakers in Dell but I am thinking it'll be better than most current laptops.
As for your comment about it being "fugly", yeah...well they are of the business look, doesn't stand out but gives you the edge. But you will see how efficient it is in cooling if you open up the back panel in most Sagers. It's an art form. These things are very good in managing their temps.

Also, what does Rush Service do?
Rush service will put priority in your order, building and shipping wise. Once it is built, it will be sent straight away.
QUOTE(kahjye @ Mar 6 2011, 04:21 PM)
Guys, whats the diff between n8150 and n8130??
Inside can put more than 1 hdd?
As for the differences, I will outline them here:
Confirmation on AMD's 6970m is not known, but have been rumoured to be supported by these new models.

I am having my doubts regarding the Warranty, is 1 year parts warranty ok, and what is regional carrying? I am assuming its warranty for me at the jalan imbi service centre?
Oh I see, now that explains to me the warranty plan I would need. Thanks!
Because you are the only one replying currently, may I please ask more questions? Regarding payment. Its ok if you don't feel like it. I can call them up tomorrow, but it would be better if I don't have to.

Ordering from mucro btw
never ordered from Mucro before, but never had my Sager fleet fail on me (5 Sager & 6 years on)
Lol... I still dont know how to actually pay. What do they mean by order number? Does it mean I pay first then confirm order online? I still can't find what order number is on the maybank slip

go to mucro.asia, customize your laptop and submit it, they will send you an order number. then, go to the bank, and wire transfer the money to them as per the details. remember to include your name and order number in the 'notes' section of the bank form.

Your order number is like your receipt number; after you customised your laptop and check out, you will receive an order number given by Mucro. Like those queue numbers you get in a bank.
Hey guys just pre-finalized my customization of a NP8130. Let me know what you guys think.
And is adding the SSD really that important?
And to let you guys know that I will run more than 15+ Applications at once and browsers/games etc.
So let me know what needs improvement or what I can throw out for better upgrades.

how about choose low rpm but more storage for hdd in optical drive bay
Low rpm? I think you mean dump the SSD and get more HDD space yeah I prob will go for that.
Maybe get a better processor or upgrade to a NP 8150 and forgetting about SSD
QUOTE(soundsyst64 @ Mar 8 2011, 03:44 PM)
^it depends on your usage. if you want to open heavy program in short time, use SSD.
Or you can remove SSD from primary hard drive and buy SSD from LYN seller (if you prefer other brands like Corsair)
Just to let you know, once you pick Caddy case, you won't get internal optical drive because 320GB will be installed in Optical Drive slot.
Just worried about tempering with the new laptop. No confidence in installing the SSD myself. I read up about the SSD anthology from Anandtech that SSD performance will significantly drop after a period of time and prob needs a secure format and have to lookout for the best firmwares for that random write. But I still do not quite understand.
The applications that I am mostly going to open are maplestory,SC2,Mozzila firefox. I just am not sure whether my current customization is good enough running so many games at the same time plus I will leave my laptop on for long periods of time (and I mean very long if possible 24/7)
So let me know what you guys think or can suggest.
You lost the ability of a DVD drive however if you have that configuration.
Hey lamp =)
Yep that is probably what I will be going for. Since I rarely burn cd/dvd's or read them. I'll probably get a HDD for that optical drive slot and than get a external one locally.
And what do you think of my current laptops customization before I begin my order?

Cool now just have to wait... any idea how long till new shipments are out?
i think the manufacturer/reseller will produce and deliver the laptop in limited quantity starting in the middle of march. it will become stable by end of april.
Actually, I'm very curious about one thing; sound quality.. The stock Sager 8150 and 8130 is a 2.1 sound card..
Is it any better as the MSI GT680/GX660 or the ASUS G53?
Sound does improve gaming experience after all XD
If I want to buy this Sager lappy, I'd have to invest in upgrading the sound card too, is it advisable?
which is also what im doing im buying the usb creative x-fi 5.1 ext soundcard to pair with the 8150 i bet you wont be using its speaker if you are really gaming for real
I think in order for you to enjoy that 3% discount is pay them with anything besides credit card. Cheque, money order, Bank wire transfer.
And do note that they will only accept the amount in USD.
Its written somewhere on their site.
But if you want go to the garage sale>notebooks and pda section and look for people selling sager lappy's I believe there is only 2 local resellers but warranty they bear the charges.
which is also what im doing im buying the usb creative x-fi 5.1 ext soundcard to pair with the 8150 i bet you wont be using its speaker if you are really gaming for real
USB? Isn't it better to replace Sager's 2.1 sound card? I heard USB sound card is not as reliable as the built-in sound card.
USB? Isn't it better to replace Sager's 2.1 sound card? I heard USB sound card is not as reliable as the built-in sound card.
True,when we game, sound matters
That's one thing where it can't be upgraded. The sound card is soldered on to the motherboard, hence why external solutions are usually better for laptops.
I have the USB X-Fi, and it sounds amazing and definitely much better than the Realtek built in sound cards. Previously I had the X-Fi Expresscard for my NP8690, and that still performs better than Realtek. Currently the USB X-Fi is only plugged in to my netbook...since my order isn't here yet.
Other sound cards you should at (if you want one) are:- - Turtle Beach Amigo - Asus Xonar U1 - Creative X-Fi Go - X-Fi Play - X-Fi USB
The NP8130, NP8150, Np8170 do not have express cards so don't bother getting an express card sound card slot.

So, purchasing these USB sound cards are definitely worth the price? In your opinion, what are the differences between the USB X-Fi and the built in Realtek?
So, purchasing these USB sound cards are definitely worth the price? In your opinion, what are the differences between the USB X-Fi and the built in Realtek?
Are the differences obvious?
The Realtek ones in laptops are pretty squeeky in terms of sound. High treble issues, and very common in many laptops. Not only this, it runs off the motherboard and adds a bit of strain on it. The Realtek has a cool feature that you can change the key of the speakers (kinda like increasing/decreasing the pitch). If you tweak it a bit, the Realtek can be a decent card.
The USB X-Fi was designed to run independently from the laptop.
It has better software packages, surround sound support and Creative only features (e.g. Crystallizer, robust equalisations). Well, in simpler terms, you get more "umph" in your bass, and better treble. The only downside is that you have to have external speakers/headphones. There's a very big difference in quality, but I can't show you that right now as I am at work now haha.
But if you're not too bothered about the sound, the Realtek is actually still a good card to have and also good for those who do not have speakers/headphones. If you're tight on money then just go for Realtek...unless you can haggle in Lowyat Plaza. Got my X-Fi for RM190.

Please read the fine print before deciding on your next laptop. Since a lot of people are getting confused on what is offered. We will also offer the same type of price for those who are willing to pay for parts shipping DURING warranty periods. This means that any parts costs that you have, you will need to pay for: shipping to Singapore shipping to USA shipping from USA shipping to you
This will save us a lot of money without having to include that in the price for you. Past customers have always not need to pay for this and we absorbed it during warranty periods. We will also do the same type of process for these kinds of customers. You have the option in your product page now. These options are highly NOT recommended because we normally cover you for most internal costs. Its almost like not having warranty. Local service centre will also not be used for these type of customers.

If you have done so earlier I wont have to bother looking at Cubehub.
So if we buy from you including your regional warranty. Can we drop off our laptops to your Malaysia Based service center for warranty/service?

Yes. When you use regional warranty. Your warranty costs are inclusive except for dropping off costs. It depends on how severe is the problem. Sometimes local service centre is not able to fix, so it is faster/cheaper to just send it to us. We have had people fix at the local service centre before but it is for minor issues and it is usually within the first month or so.

Well, your sound card seems to be a good buy huh? I'll check out Low Yat when I ever drop by at KL, haha..
But what the Sager 8150 has is a 5.1 THX TruStudio Sound isn't it?
I wonder if their built-in speakers are powerful and crisp =/
By the way, when will the GTX560M 1.5GB be released for the 8150?

he covers warranty for u P/S that adapter is like a brick and the laptop itself is very square LOOL..
just receive e-mail from mucro about warranty
In the past we used to cover shipping both ways when the machine failed within 1 month and no coverage for shipping from Malaysia to Singapore after 1 month for serious defects.
Judging from calculations we might need to raise prices if we are to cover shipping both ways. It is actually cheaper to send a laptop from Malaysia to Singapore. It is expensive for us to cover using courier services. Our current plan covers free shipping back to user or collection at the local service centre.

I don't know about the THX 5.1. It only says THX TruStudio certified. And the speakers are only 2.1 anyway
And I do not think you should be looking at the GTX 560m, because it's not so powerful. You should be looking at the GTX 580m or the AMD 6970m (due in a month or two).
But usuali Tru Studio is 5.1 from what I heard, isn't it?Standard nowadays. Otherwise, the older 1 would be 4.1.
Well, it isn't powerful because the G74SX featured in Cebit 2011 had a 128 bus width and 1GB DDR5 memory. By default, it should be 192 bus width and 1.5GB GDDR5.
580m or 6970m too costly and power hungry ><
If the default config was released, I'm sure it's more powerful.

Yeah, just as lee_what says, most laptops are 2.0 speakers.
5.1 THX TruStudio is just the program included, that allows 5.1 to be emitted from a set of 5.1 speakers if you have them (I think, I have to confirm this when I get the laptop next week)
Anyway, regarding the GPUs. The 6970m is cheaper than the GTX 485m and performs almost equally, but I would think the GTX 580m is priced higher than both (obviously it's leagues higher than the other two). Power hungry isn't an issue if you're ordering the NP8170 or the NP8150; both have 180W power adapters. The issue pops up when you are using the NP8130, with the 120W power adapter.
Also, an update on the orders worldwide. The laptops have begun shipping to customers yesterday (Thursday). Finally, the wait is over!

Sure, do confirm me when you get it. Do a review, a brief and detailed one, that is =D For my case, I think a 5.1 is actually good enough, haha. I just want a great sound quality and clarity to boost my gaming experience.
Actually I wanna ask something about power supply, I've been confused over the 8150 and 8130.
Assume that I buy the same spec of 8150 and 8130. In what way does it affect if I used a bigger power supply like 8150 has compared to 8130 which only has 120W? Cooling? Does higher wattage provide a more stable system?

maybe the manufacturer provide big power adapter wattage just in case customer wants to upgrade components like graphics card
they told u ETA 3 weeks? How did you made the payment?
What I did was when I clicked on checkout on mucro.asia is preorder (pay 10% now 90% when shipment of laptop arrive in singapore and proceed to ship to customer)
I did it via Maybank2u.
I chose DHL for the full insurance coverage.

The bigger power supply allows concrete solution for future upgrades. If you scrape the 180W adapter on the 8130 then it would be viable for higher power consumption GPUs and CPUs. However, if you run a 120W with the GTX 485m, the card would not perform as well as it would.

Hey I got a question for the NP8130 users or soon to be users.
Does the GTX460M support Optimus?
IF it doesnt , will the laptop know how to change between the Intergrated GPU and the Standalone gpu?? thanks
No. Clevo decides to remove the integrated solution for the higher end cards due to driver incompatibilities with some games (e.g. Punkbuster may think you're hacking, weird).
this is just shipping or included build time? Isn't it normally take weeks to build a laptop?
normally it take less than a week. but since lots of people ordering these new tech, it may take more than that (depends on how many orders they received)

I put it there, and will removed if you decide to cancel the purchase and buy other laptop brand.

What if I don't plan to upgrade at all? Then the 8130 is just fine with me? And the cooling in 8130 and 8150 is just the same right?
8150 has rubber finish while the 8130 has a plastic finish. Rubber finish is definitely better right?
Another irony is that the 8150 has a glossy display while the 8130 has a matte display, it's just so hard to decide!!

If you don't plan to upgrade in the future, the NP8130 will do justice. You can still upgrade I would think, but not as well as the NP8150. The Matte screens are good though.
New detailed review of Kobalt's NP8150 with GTX 485m.

damn so nice , lamp where are u from?
what model did u bought?
whats the diff between NP8130 AND NP8150?
Me? I live in Australia, but originally from Miri.
And bought the NP8150, because I am greedy and wanting the GTX 485m
And the differences? I posted it a few pages back:
Extra HDD can be placed in replacement of the CD-Drive bay.

so N8150 is more expensive because of its ability to be upgraded?

Matte screen or Glossy screen better?
thinkin to get one from cubehub or mucro better?
Yeah it's more expensive because of the upgrades. But the NP8130 can be upgrade as well though, don't mistake it for not being able to support any upgrades. If you stick the NP8150 power adapter to the NP8130, I'm pretty sure you can upgrade it just as good as the NP8150.
Matte or Glossy? I can't tell you this because it's personal preference. I like both though, but from what I have seen, the Matte is very beautiful.
Lastly, I can't help you either on Mucro/Cubehub. I haven't ordered from them before. If one gives you a better price then go for that one.

pay them in USD? meaning by credit card online payment?
About RM6K. Did a bunch of upgrades on it, mainly the GTX485m.

How about warranty?
Both screens are good, but you have to see how you are going to use your laptop, e.g. use it outside? you need Matte screens. Glossy has better image quality, but outside is kinda reflective...you can see your face usually.
I didn't pay in USD, but Australian Dollars. Did a bank transfer, quick and efficient. Warranty is okay for me since the shop I order from is about 1 hour away from my house.
Mucro Sager ,Sager np8130 is USD1461 or Rm4437 + delivery rm262=RM4699 Cube Hub Asia, Sager np8130 is USD1443 or Rm 4362+USD130= RM 4752
which is better??
Btw what does mucro sager meant on : Sager Warranty | parts: 1 year warranty(parts) Addon Local Mucro Warranty | labour: 1 year Regional carryin (labour)
Does mucro warranty meant the same as CubeHub 1 Year ASEAN Limited Warranty (Both way Shipment covered) US warranty covered ? i tried to ask , so far mucro doesnt reply to me..

Currently contemplating on getting a NP8150-S1 from Mucro but confused about the regional warranty thing. What's the main purpose. :confuse:
it helps you to claim warranty from sager. so it means that mucro will become a middle man for any warranty claims.
Price wise.... The S1 is cheaper on average by RM 200 than the normal one. Cheapest config for the S1 w/485M is 6.4k w/o the regional warranty. Too bad that doesn't include shipping. If it did... I'd be all over it but then again the regional warranty thing still bothers me.

Another reseller quoted RM6.5k including shipping for a similar S1 config and that's including shipping. Sadly they're in the US.
@soundsyst64:
That means that without it, we'd have to claim the warranty straight from Sager? As in ship directly to US?

for express shipping, you can add RM 262 (mucro) or USD $130 (cubehub)
warranty - that's what i have thought. but it's based on my assumption. you can e-mail them for accurate answer

That would bring the total cost to about RM 6.6k for Mucro and RM 6.7k for CubeHub provided both give same price for the same configuration. Still RM 100 @ RM 200 more expensive than the one quoted by the US reseller. Trying to save as much as I can. lol...
$2025 for similar config on the NP8150-S1 from cubehub's website. Hmmmmm.... This is starting to get interesting. XD If the discount is real then I might just go for it. Will wait for a reply from CubeHub after I sent an email asking for a quote.
i think we're missing 3-4 people on the owner list , but most of us are repeat owners anyway once the hardware gets outdated
what to do? people nowadays interested in beautiful laptop design with illuminated keyboard and such. not interested in plain looking laptops. It's much better to promote this product during pcfair. sure got lots of buyers.
I can't do a full review yet, due to a silly mistake I made in ordering the wrong Optical drive bay slot for the 2nd HDD; I don't want to waste my SSD's life by installing/uninstalling things that I don't want.
I'm happy to answer a few preliminary questions regarding the NP8150. Just finished installing Windows 7 and some drivers. It's still pretty empty though. Currently, what I can say are: - The rubber feels very nice. Very sleek. - Glossy plastic around the LCD screen. - Matte screen is OH MY GOD SO BEAUTIFUL! - The adapter can kill someone, seriously. IT IS HUMONGOUS! - There's less headroom in the component area. Easy to take the back panel off with only 4 screws. - There's 4 RAM slots; 2 at the back, 2 are inside the keyboard...the keyboard ones are quite hard to get access to. - HDD replacement is very easy. - A bit heavy. But not as heavy as I thought it will be.
I don't have a Sager logo on my laptop, as my reseller is a Clevo reseller, not Sager reseller.
But not as heavy as I thought it will be.

so you mean your ssd is installed as the secondary drive?
Nah...my reseller didn't offer caddies. So I had to find my own haha, but failed at that Found the right one though, being delivered here, hopefully soon.
It looks like an ancient box contained with powerful magic Anyway, I just paid the first 10%, waiting for updates!
+1

Ah bummer.
So os and most used applications on the SSD and the rest in HDD.
Under regional warranty. You pay to send to Singapore or Malaysia for servicing, We pay for the parts shipment to/from USA. This is a required step. We send it to you free after the item is fixed. You can send big or small items or walk into the service centre and have it looked at. You need to contact us for tech support first before we pay the service centre for you to look at the problem.
Under No warranty you pay to send to us plus you also have to pay for the US shipping of parts and laptop. Or you can send the entire thing yourself to the USA. There is no tech support. It is very expensive. For any serious problems, normally you have to send to the USA. The local servicing is useful when it is out of warranty and you can usually get cheaper servicing after warranty. You also normally need to put in a deposit before you get Sager to send anything to you if it is a small part that needs to be serviced.
Message from Mucro.asia explaining their warranty.
i have no idea...LOL....mayb i should go for asus n53sn..damn ...dilemma.. lol
Uhhhh.... What's there to be confused about? You want gaming performance, go with the NP8130. The Asus can't give you the same performance since it uses a GT 550M which is ranked lower than the GTX 460M. @_@ What exactly do you want.

there's no laptop in the world that can give you high performance in gaming, lightweight and long battery life in one package. You have to choose. if you pro in electrical, you can plug car battery to your laptop and play games outside till the battery drain

hahahaha , anyway , what is the battery life if i dont game?
hehehe i mean the look of the laptop should look the same rite? lol coz im hesitating to get sager cause of the distance between the seller and me
hard to claim warranty.
might as well pick over asus n53sn and save over 800bucks.
That's what I mean. I mentioned that the NP8130 has black plastic finish, and the NP8150 has a rubber grey finish. But basically they are the same, with the same motherboard even.

thank you sir!!!
a big square box of laptop ehhh hahaha , but dont care , performance comes first xD
how's the rubberised surface on the 8150 like? does it look like it will wear out quick?
im thinking of an 8150 but the rubber surface is holding me back
It's very smooth. Very sleek.
Don't think of it as a bouncing rubber, but more of an aluminum looking rubber. It doesn't flex, actually it doesn't really feel like rubber, but it is haha

Well, since the 8150 can pack so much wattage, I don't think it's impossible.. Being able to support the GTX485m means that it can definitely support high end cards like the ATI 6970 too =)
We just gotta wait till 6970 is avaiable for 8150. However, Nvidia has much mor stable drivers, I'd still stick with Nvidia. My opinion anyways =)
but as far as current pricing shows, the 6970m can save us a lot of money compared to the 485m, i still went with the 485m anyway no time to waste but i think its worth waiting for the 6970m if youre not in a hurry
if NP8130 upgradable to HD6970, the price would be about RM 6K++
LOL! I'd say that it'll be around 5.5k max. The HD 5870M cost me RM 1.4k to upgrade from the GTX 280M. I'd guess it'll be around the same price as well and its not possible that it'll be way more expensive than the 485M. @_@

I just sent short e-mails, and he said don't bother selecting rush service for the moment due to the recall thing. He told me to bank in RM300 less, due to the rush service being unavailable.
I don't know how to explain all that in a shorter sentence..

The laptops are made to last as long as you take care of them. Read http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clev...ers-lounge.html to see what the owners say. Unless you mess around with the hardware in your laptops, I doubt you'll have much problems with them. I caused my HD 5870M to malfunction at one point and the whole laptop couldn't start. I just emailed Mucro and they contacted Sager on my behalf. Sager told them to have me send the GPU back while they send me a new one. I explained what I did to cause such an issue on the laptop and they didn't seem to care. There was another owner of the NP8690.... He messed with the thermal pads by replacing them and they melted into the GPU or something like that (I can't really remember, check the NBR forum for more info) and they just told him to send back the GPU. So yeah... Tell me if these examples don't really show that their aftersales service is not good.
May I ask where you read such claims from?
Edit: I think I've found out where you heard the claims from. I'd have to agree with it then but like I mentioned above, it all works out. Just go through your reseller (Mucro/CubeHub/whoever).

im worry about local stock..we dont have any local stock..adapter...battery..zz...
Erm.... ordering from Mucro @ Cubehub(I guess), would give you the proper adapter for our wall sockets. Battery? What are you worried about? @_@ Seriously, once you go with these babies, you'd never look at other laptops again. I may sound biased but its true. Those who have problems are just unlucky. I guess about 90% of those who own Sagers don't have a single problem with their unit unless its self inflicted, like what I did. :\
cause i wanna make sure its worth the trouble if theres any...im using my hard collected part time job money to buy it
im not working yet cz im 20 lol. needa go study again..zzz...
Just get a cheap laptop to help you get through Uni first. Grad and work. Then get a Sager. By then they would be way more powerful than they are now and the batteries would last longer I guess. Save the money for rainy days. Getting the laptop last year was a serious distraction.

lost my confidence on sager due to the replies on the linkies..
This is where people are wrong. If you read my review, I told you to NEVER look at Sager themselves. They are horrible in customer service, but people tend to overlook the resellers, who provide the end user contacts and make the overall experience better.
Now, try putting the names of resellers in the website.

I have to quote from This is a Lamp
QUOTE
The resellers are an important factor in choosing a Sager/Clevo laptop; they play a huge part in your purchase and warranty issues and most importantly, your first impression. As other consumer brands are answering machines and less technical when it comes to support, the Sager/Clevo resellers are people, and offer quick, adaptive technical knowledge to their customers, be it with jargon (technical words) or not. Most of these resellers are forum representatives in Notebookreview.com, and you can specifically ask them about questions and cheaper quotes. Even here in Lowyat, Mucro SG, a Singaporean reseller, has a forum rep lurking and answering questions. But do not order directly from Sager, because they are quite horrible with patrons and just about as bad as the answering machine brands.
Acer also produce laptops at very attractive price, and as you said, made from cheap stuff; but still lots of people buying it.
Praying hard that Sager will last me for at least 6 years. My Inspiron 1420 lasted me for 5 years with NO maintenance at all, and is still doing great. Just problems with heat and playing games.
And also, awaiting info for HD6970m in NP8150 model, which Eurocom already test it.
Ask them for the no HDD or memory option, they surely will provide it. The reseller I ordered from didn't have that option on website, but I emailed them and they say it's alright, we can process it and minus some $$ from your order.
ohhh...bt theres a forumer here pay for the rush order n havent receive yet in 1 month....hmmmm
btw sager`s accesories like adapter , battery are not available in our country?
there is no doubt about its quality rite?
Each notebook has it's own power consumption, so i believe you can't simply plug asus adapter on acer notebook. There's no seller selling sager accessories in malaysia. you need to buy straight from reseller. In terms of quality, have to ask loyal sager owners.

hahaha u guys are Sager pros ma , sure must ask pros and cons here.
cause im gonna spend a little huge amount in this laptop..well its a burden to me
just wanna make sure that i will buy with no regrets.
what im concern a bout is its durability and the availability of it`s accesories in local market.
but i assume that we dont have Sager`s stuff at all and if wanna get a batter or an adapter in the future might cost a bomb because of the shipping fee.
am i right?

Of course the quality is good, there's less chance for a Sager/Clevo to fail than other brands.
And speaking about the accessory, I plugged in my friend's HP 100W adapter on my old NP8690 that seemed to fit in. It works! But the power isn't enough to run games properly though. If you get a random brand 180W/120W for your NP8150/NP8130, then in theory it should be still fine. Even plugging a higher watt adapter will still make it work, with the addition of having spare power, so the higher watt adapter doesn't run as hot.

wouldnt it damage the laptop?
i saw before using a not proper adapter with different laptop can cause the port to melt.
i saw before using a not proper adapter with different laptop can cause the port to melt.
It didn't damage the port because the NP8690's original wattage was 120W, and I was using 100W to charge the laptop.
But in theory, the port shouldn't be damaged because of a higher wattage; it will put less burden on the adapter. Like when you have a 120W on a 120W laptop, the laptop uses the whole amount, but if you have 180W on a 120W laptop, there's more room to be free. Plus additional areas for overclocking + new upgrades.
There's some sources if you're still not sure, but I'm too lazy to find. The one here is about overclocking on a NP8690, but should theoretically apply to other newer models.
then would it be possible for a NP8130 user to, well maybe somehow in the future, to use NP8150 adapter (if the adapter -> laptop male socket connector matches la). sounds good.
Bought my item like 4 weeks ago from lpc-digital, finally it's being shipped to me.
Anyway, anyone knows how long should I expect for my item to arrive if it is using USPS, and the status right now is International Dispatch Arrival (since 11 am this morning). Does that mean the item is still being sort at the airport, or means that the item has already fly from the airport to its destination?

Oh you bought it from LPC? Haha, I did business with them for my order...but canceled it and went for a closer one. They offer cheap too.
The NP8130 and NP8150 uses the same motherboard/chipset. So if you have the NP8150 adapter you can connect to the NP8130.

yep, went for LPC after checking their personal ratings, and hey, the person (Larry) was very friendly. He even replied to me when the shipment from the factory to his office got stuck for no reason, but he said that he's working on it to check why my item got delayed from the factory. and in less than 24 hrs, he sent another email saying that the item was finally being shipped to his office. Furthermore, he actually included my mail in the USPS track & confirm email address list rather than giving me the receipt number (or actually he did both jobs). i would say that is like first-class treatment from customer POV

Kahjye,
i would expect orders right now to arrive quite late.
reason was there might be a long Q from ppl who pre-ordered their lappies during the SandyBridge 67-series chipset SATA pin current leakage issue.
Ordered mine 11 feb, item was ready to be shipped by 6th march (if not my own problem for keep on changing address hahaha), currently either still at LAX or already inside plane on d way to Msia (based on one of my previous post about my USPS status)

nway, SonicSpyro asked me to give unboxing reviews when i got the item. i'll put a post over here, just to let u guys know how LPC-digital box the products
I wasn't sure to either sent it to US coz got my friend on business trip for the whole month, but last minute replied me his bag was full, so i got to last minute change the address to malaysia.
anyway, it's expected to be late, from mid March to end of April. Only then should the orders be stabled, which means your order should arrive faster and not 1 month ++ anymore.
here's the excerpt from sager website (i believe topic owner did mention bout diz @ 1st post)
QUOTE
Intel Series 6 Chipset (Sandy Bridge) Recall Information
Sager and Clevo have consulted together and have decided that both Sager and Clevo will halt all pending shipments of Intel 6 series chipset systems. Models include Sager NP5160, NP5170, NP8130, NP8150, NP8170. (Clevo: W150HNQ, W170HN, P150HM, P151HM1, P170HM).
The current schedule is that starting in the middle of Feb 2011, Intel will start supplying qualification samples of the new revision of Intel 6 series chipset to Clevo. Clevo RD and QC will make it their first priority to test and qualify this new chip revision and prepare for mass production.
Currently the mass production version of the revised 6 series is scheduled to begin delivery from Intel to Clevo in limited quantities at the end of Feb 2011. We estimate that we will resume limited quantity shipment of Sager models NP5160, NP5170, NP8130, NP8150, and NP8170 in the middle of March 2011. Stabilization of shipment for all models should occur by the end of April 2011.
i know how it feels i too am waiting for my unit as well the seller told me sager has completed to unit and is now due for shipping but until now also no tracking #

graphics core/core speed(MHz)/shader speed(MHz)/mem speed(MHz)/number of bits/number of pipelines 550m/740/1480/900/128/96 460m/675/1350/1250/196/192
that's why 460m wins. wider bits meaning better throughput, more pipelines should be meaning better parallel processing. Core speed /shader speed was perhaps slow maybe because it's an older hardware compared to 550m (460m was introduced late Q3 2010, 550m introduced early Q1 2011)

i receive an e-mail from cubehub, stated
It is possible to remove the Hard Drive but not the memory as Sager dont allow us to do that now. As they told us many have problem installing thier own RAM and in the end have to go back to Sager.
it's okay to remove hard drive from the order, but MUST include the RAM.

Oh, that's weird haha. Oh well, still depends on the reseller though. I understand about the RAM issue though; the extra RAM slots are quite hard to get to.

yep, but I thought that the default is a 2x RAM solution and not 4x RAM solution, meaning they actually put it at the bottom slot and not top slot? (like the video showed).
Yes, Mucro. I placed order on 19 Jan 2011 (if my memory serves me right). Mucro confirmed delivery last Thursday. It took 3 working days to deliver the unit from Singapore to JB.

Mine came with a 4x2GB, instead of a 2x4GB. It might be the case with Mucro as well.
And so, I read the manual. It stated that:
"Two primary memory sockets are located under component bay cover (the bottom case cover), and two secondary memory sockets are located under the keyboard (not user upgradable). If you are installing only two RAM modules then they should be installed in the primary memory sockets under the component bay cover.
Note that the RAM located under the keyboard is not user upgradable. Contact your service center for more information if you wish to upgrade the memory in the secondary memory sockets."
So, maybe Mucro adapted this rule into their RAM issues. The secondary RAM slots are actually user upgradable...I don't know why they mentioned that it isn't. I tried it myself as well, but was kinda difficult. Maybe that's the reason perhaps.

I ordered mine without a HDD, therefore minusing $70 off my order. But my reseller forgot to take out the HDD inside the machine when they were testing it...and it was the new 750GB 7200RPM Momentus. Haha. Free HDD for me

I ordered mine without a HDD, therefore minusing $70 off my order. But my reseller forgot to take out the HDD inside the machine when they were testing it...and it was the new 750GB 7200RPM Momentus. Haha. Free HDD for me

pretty good, on max speed, it idles the at about 35-38 for the proc while 38-40 for the gpu without the a/c turned on. although the fans can get pretty noisy... but im on my headphone most of the time anyways, so its not really bothering me

The pin is like that because I live in Australia. If you buy from SG or Malaysia, the pin will be the 3 pin British Plug like you normally use at home.
If you buy it from USA, the pin will be the USA rounded 3 pin.
