IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.
Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.
Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.
High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

rizvanrp website of the unofficial HSBB (Unifi) "handbook".

UPDATE 27th January 2011 : Updated the site with details regarding the new 7.09 router firmware. Added port forwarding guide to the Router Config section
UPDATE 20th January 2011 : Added the official TM DIR-615 G2/7.05B firmware file to the Downloads page (untested).
UPDATE 15th January 2011 : Happy new year! Added a Router Compatibility List (with configuration information) for routers that natively work with Unifi. Do drop me a PM if you have any updates for the list
UPDATE 31st October 2010 : Switched to lite UI due to security issues.
UPDATE 14th October 2010 : Added DIR-615 config.bin file format spec to the router password dumping guide.
UPDATE 10th October 2010 : Added router password dumping guide for the TM DIR-615 G1/G2 which is compatible with all firmware revisions as of now (7.05 + 7.05b). Don't bother calling the TM support hotline for your account/router details anymore smile.gif!
UPDATE 3rd October 2010 : TM has upgraded the stock router to rev G2 (DIR-615 G2) with Firmware 7.05B. Current guides are not compatible with this new model AFAIK. Do not attempt to downgrade/reflash as the hardware revision change may indicate a different platform. Thanks to LYN-er IcEMoCHa for this information!
UPDATE 23rd August 2010 : Added the MikroTik RB250GS Unifi configuration guide. It completely replaces the DIR-615 G1 without any issues. Thanks klseet!
UPDATE 9th August 2010 : Added a Router Config (DIR-615) section for info/guides related to the DIR-615 stock firmware. Fixed the iPod/iTouch/iPad w/ TM DIR-615 G1 bug!
UPDATE 9th August 2010 : Due to popular demand, I've added a DD-WRT firmware flashing and configuration guide for the TM DIR-615 G1 router.
UPDATE 28 July 2010 : Unifi/TM is sending out text messages to customers telling them that it is 'encouraged' to enable the remote management option for troubleshooting issues. This should only be enabled when you call in to perform troubleshooting and they request access to your router and immediately disabled after that. The router firmware itself is bugged and allows an attacker to download the configuration file off your router without using the correct username/password combination so it is recommended that you DO NOT enable this option.
UPDATE 19th June 2010 : Unifi network seems to be okay again. Massive network downtime from 4pm 18th June till about 1pm today due to some 'load balacing' issues (?). ( http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1407338/+1100 )
UPDATE 12th June 2010 : Added a new security notification to the router security (DIR-615) guide & added DIR-615 G1 stock factory firmware to downloads section
UPDATE 11th June 2010 : Switched over to a nicer webhost smile.gif Thanks for the suggestion mylinear !
UPDATE 9th June 2010 : Added Method 2 to custom router configuration guide
UPDATE 9th June 2010 : Added IPTV information and configuration article
UPDATE 5th June 2010 : Added firewall configuration to the DIR-615 security configuration guide
UPDATE 4th June 2010 : Added FTTH wiring information and pics from old LYN threads
UPDATE 3rd June 2010 : Included removal of TR-069 protocol in the DIR-615 security configuration guide
UPDATE 31st May 2010 : Added custom router guide (1st method) for TM DIR-615 VLAN bridging
UPDATE 30th May 2010 : Highlighted DIR-615 security flaw + added security configuration guide

* A very big thank you to rizvanrp for his guides & contribution! notworthy.gif

Installation Guide

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office.

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement. If you require more information or encounter any problems with the services, please contact us through any of the following avenues:

Technical Assistance 24/7

24/7 Technical Assistance

We are ready to assist you 24/7. Please call our Technical Support team: 1 300 88 1221

Initial steps you can take:

If possible, always try to troubleshoot or do a quick check by yourself first, such as:

1. Ensure that all equipment are switched on and properly connected to the power points.
2. Ensure that all equipment are correctly connected to each other, no loose cable connections.
3. If you think your Internet connection is slow or erratic, you may want to test your Internet speed at the UniFi Speedtest first.
+ If the results return as normal, the problem may be caused by the website or server you are accessing.
+ If the results return as unsatisfactory, call us immediately for assistance.

Things you SHOULD NOT DO:

Do not carry out any of the following without any advice from the TM UniFi Centre or TM Technicians:

1. Hard reset or reconfigure the following equipment:
+ Broadband Termination Unit (BTU)
+ Residential/Premise Gateway (RG/PG)
+ Set-Top-Box (STB)

2. Hard resetting the above equipment may cause service interruption
3. Unplug or move existing wiring especially cables that connect the Fibre Wall Socket (FWS) to the BTU and BTU to the RG/BG.

After numerous complaints to TM's inept CSR and reports to SKMM I finally got a rebate from TM due to the many failures of their iptv in October. RM149.40 off. That 40 cents is a mystery.

Next up, the return of the 8 premium channels with no extra charges.

The first 8 premium channels. BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge, FTV HD, and etc.
If you've been using the VIP20 package before November, you're eligible to get those channels back.

Sien, applied VIP5, but they put me on VIP10 charged me RM199 per month.

Called them so many times, Unifi promised to downgrade my package to VIP5 and will settle the downgrade charge penalty with the agent who did the mistake.

Until today, 2 months already I am still billed for VIP10.

How??? Should I write to SKMM to demand action and rebate?

I guess the TMnutters forgot to fix this on their FAQS (link on first post):
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As most of us know, TM has silently, and unethically changed all VIP packages to have only basic channels.
When asked about this matter, this is what they said:

QUOTE
As part of the free promotion at UniFi launch on March 24th, 2010, VIP20 subscribers
were provided 8 Premium channels (BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle, Cbeebies, Luxe
TV HD, Fashion TV HD, STAR Chinese Channel, STAR Chinese Movies 2 & Channel
[V] Taiwan) together with the 14 Free channels. Subscribers were also able to enjoy
VOD for free during this promotional period. This promotion was only available
untilOctober 31st, 2010, after which TM starts to charge for the Premium channels and
VOD.
- Unfortunately there has been some confusion in the market regarding this matter.
Thus, to reward our “early-bird” VIP20 subscribers who have purchased and installed
VIP20 package before November 1st 2010, TM will include the 8 Premium Channels
provided during the launch as part of VIP20 subscription package.

What's that sound?
Oh, it's the bullshit detector running on max volume.
As we all know, everyone gets the 8 premium channels during the so called promotion period. What they're trying to say here is - ONLY VIP20 users got the 8 channels during that period since it was after all, a promotion. It was also not stated in the service acceptance form that this 'sudden' promotion for VIP20 users will be available only till October 31st. On the contrary, they did state on the form that the Unifi service will be free until end of July. If it was really a promotion I reckon they would include something along the lines of "the 8 premium channels will only be free until the end of October".

In some parts of the world, incidents like this would result in them being sued left right and centre.
Meh..

Not long after this post they would probably fix the info on the site. laugh.gif

What happen if exist streamyx user want to subscribe to Unifi, the existing streamyx package will terminate by upgrade to unifi?
or need to terminate the streamyx first, then subscribe to unifi? asking because the streamyx package still within 12 months contract period.
Thank .
*
Existing Streamyx contract period not important, all new Unifi customers are subject to new 2 years contract. Supposed to be auto cancellation if you are in a condo using VDSL (but best to double check at TMpoint after installation), manual cancellation if you are in a landed property using FTTH. Cancellation will take up to 14 days.

I made the cancellation.. and took more than a month for them to cancel it and TM charge me for the full amount of the monthly subscription fee.....
I emailed them on this and said I will not make any payment until they settle this.... finally TM only charged me partially of the monthly subscription fee.... biggrin.gif

Alarm system can't be connected to UNIFI line at the moment. Already confirmed this.

However, a solution..

For a FTTH cust, u can opt to keep your existing phone line, and u can use that phone line only for alarm purposes.
Just curious, who confirmed that with you and in what context was it.

Because the auto-dialer and auto-answer on an alarm system works fine on the tel port of the fiber unit, if connected properly, just like a fax machine and other equipment that expects to see a dial-tone and ringing signal.

I guess the TMnutters forgot to fix this on their FAQS (link on first post):
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As most of us know, TM has silently, and unethically changed all VIP packages to have only basic channels.
When asked about this matter, this is what they said:

Meh..
Not long after this post they would probably fix the info on the site.  laugh.gif
*
How u gonna make sure we get back the 8 channels? I had my VIP20 from August 2010 yet after so many calls to them they still did not get me back my channels.

I brought this up with TM.

There was one post mentioning that because of the Geofi settings, it detects as being in Brunei with a few IP ranges. However, this does impact DL speed and games as well.

I tested on other hardware thinking it was my hardware but upon changing IPs and certain routings, its works fine. Long term solution needs to be from TM though.

Until now, they have got no long term solution set out.

Change IP range. Sometimes it does not resolve this as there are more and more IP ranges which point to Brunei and have their Geofi locations set wrong.

Just luck I suppose till TM fixes this.

Write to MCMC (SKMM) and complain about this with attached brochure (get it from the first post). I did this, still awaiting TM's response. SKMM already notified me that TM is looking into this. Not sure how long I am gonna wait.

If you have the Dlink DIR-615 as VLAN bridge and Airport Extreme on router mode, I guess it should work. I am trying this next Wednesday when UniFi is installed.

Yes ... I have my own DIR-615 (not from TM) on DDWRT working ok ...
I tried to follow similar settings, and also change the VLAN Tagging from eth0 to eth 1 to VLAN1 and VLAN2.
Tried all combinations i would think .. still doesn't work.

Have you manage to make this work? Maybe you can send me some screenshots of it?

I haven't heard any stories about unifi and international bandwidth cap.

Are you guys affected by this BS? http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1661942

Oh and, please test from around 11 am to 1 am.
*
sometimes for a certain day, my speed on 11pm-1am is drop till 1 or 2 Mbps but only for certain day, so i think is maintenance only

seems now we Unifi user haven't affected by this crazy capping situation, all download from any site still run on full speed.

hopefully TM will act more wisely about cap for UniFi user in future,

i never mind got limited quota/month but no capping, i pay for 5Mbps so i HAVE TO got my 5 Mbps PERIOD

well in my opinion.. capping can be forgiven but they really have to increase the capped amount..
5mb -> 150gb 10mb -> 300gb 20mb -> 600gb

but throttling definitely pisses me off, they cant just simply throttle u.. i mean if they throttle u slower by 40 or 30% , tat can still be forgiven but they throttle till u left 128kbs? tat internet speed nt for man de.. for animal de la..

hopefully no throttle .. just increase cap limit..

Hi all. I have this serious problem.

When I on my wireless modem, it works fine. Speed tested on my iPhone saying alls good. Browsing on my iphone also possible. However, I then start browsing on my PC and the wifi disconnects immediately and wont let me reconnect unless I restart the modem and I'm back to square one. Any ideas?

HSBB coverage on track
By JEEVA ARULAMPALAM
jeeva@thestar.com.my

AS Telekom Malaysia Bhd ™ builds an ecosystem in the telecommunications industry with the roll out of its high-speed broadband (HSBB), it hopes to enhance customer experience by creating new innovative services and changing the way customers communicate.

Since its HSBB launch in March, TM has also been transforming the way it approaches its business and customer expectations, TM group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zamzamzairaini Mohd Isa says in an interview with StarBizWeek.

Datuk Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa ... ‘We will need some form of a wireless solution to help our customers enhance their experience when they buy our services.’
He expects exponential growth for HSBB to come in the next two to three years, as TM rolls out to more exchange areas.

I've been asked why we have seen low closed orders. But this is a brand new service launched eight months ago and was commercially available in June. We are hoping for stronger take-up next year and beyond, he adds.

HSBB will cover some 34 exchange areas by next week and is on track to hit 48 areas by year-end. The target is to hit 750,000 premises (in terms of network available should a customer need it) before the year is out and TM has surpassed 700,000 premises presently.

We have closed roughly 30,000 orders, of which 30% are new TM subscribers. The aim is to more than double the orders for next year, says Zamzamzairani.

The HSBB service, also known as UniFi, comes with triple-play services of high-speed Internet, video (Internet Protocol Television and Video-on-Demand) and phone.

ECM Libra Investment Research says in a report this week that UniFi subscriber growth should be about 20% to 30% compound annual growth rate over the next two years.

Next year will be a ramp-up year for UniFi, while 2012 will see significant revenue contribution from UniFi.

TM's emphasis for the rollout of HSBB in high-economic areas, which contribute some 70% of the country's gross domestic product, will be more cost effective in terms of investment.

The HYPPTV internet protocol television service for all UniFi high speed broadband residential customers.
Under its public-private-partnership (PPP) initiative with the government, TM will invest RM8.9bil in total while the government will contribute some RM2.4bil in developing the country's next generation HSBB infrastructure and services.

TM estimates that it could take between eight to 10 years before a fibre network becomes its mainstay due to high proliferation of the fibre usage.

The premise of HSBB under the PPP agreement is about changing it from a demand driven to supply driven scenario. If there is demand beyond the PPP agreed areas, then we will continue to roll out HSBB, says Zamzamzairani.

On whether TM would look to implement a Fair Usage Policy for UniFi users, he says that TM was still studying the pattern of usage by its customers.

The issue is how we are going to implement it and not whether we should or not. Most customers would understand that there needs to be an equilibrium in usage among users, he adds.

Zamzamzairaini says that some 40% of UniFi customers have had trouble free experience, against other market benchmarks which hover around 20% for similar services.

Meanwhile, TM has been in talks with other operators for wholesale HSBB purchases but securing potential buyers has not been easy as the wholesale business has considerations such as of volume and term commitments.

All of us would like to reduce capital expenditure because you want to preserve cash. So everyone is looking at what would be the most business effective way in providing connectivity, says Zamzamzairaini.

Broadband fight heats up

With the broadband market growing bigger and competition heating-up, TM wants to present itself to customers as the preferred choice.

In the last two years, we have become more customer centric and the next challenge for us is to excite and improve the customer experience, says Zamzamzairaini.

As market competition intensifies in the mobile broadband space, TM will focus on bettering its wireless solution by growing its WiFi hotspots.

We are strong in the fixed network, both in copper and fibre, but alongside this network, we will need some form of a wireless solution to help our customers enhance their experience when they buy services from us, said Zamzamzairani.

TM will increase its Streamyx hotspots and hotzones to 10,000 from 8,800 by the year-end.

Eighty per cent of the time when people are mobile and want to access the Internet, they would be seated somewhere, either in a cafe, hotel lobby or at an airport, Zamzamzairani says.

This means these people are located in a building and that gives us the opportunity to serve those customers using our WiFi solutions.

However, TM believes customers will use both mobile and fixed broadband solutions, depending on their needs. Customers want mobile solutions when they are moving around while fixed-line services would be ideal for home or office needs.

The latest wireless solutions provider in the market is YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, which launched its 4G Mobile Internet service with voice last month.

TM, which initially dominated the local Internet market share with Streamyx, has seen its retail market share erode with the entry of other mobile and wireless players.

Market share is important to us and when you start at 100%, the only way to go is down. So the challenge for us is to try to slow down that reduction, Zamzamzairani says.

While we note that the pie has gotten bigger, we have gone down to 63% (in market share) and will continue to see erosion.

Revenue growth from broadband and data

Moving forward, Zamzamzairaini reiterated that revenue growth for the company will come from its broadband and data services, while traditional voice will continue to remain a challenge.

According to IDC data, TM's market share for data was 27% and 24% for voice.

TM recently reported its third quarter results, which saw its net profit surged 145% to RM438.49mil from RM179.07mil a year ago mainly due to higher operating revenue and higher gain on disposal of investments.

Revenue for the quarter ended Sept 30 increased to RM2.19bil from RM2.10bil a year earlier mainly on higher revenue from data and other telecommunications-related services, which mitigated the impact of lower revenue from voice and non-telecoms services.

Its data revenue increased by 24.6% in the third quarter to RM440.9mil compared with RM353.9mil in the same quarter 2009 arising from demand for higher bandwidth services.

Other telecommunications- related services revenue increased by 34.2% in the third quarter to RM320.7mil compared with RM238.9mil a year ago mainly due to higher revenue from customers' projects such as MERS 999 and income from HSBB grant.

Revenue from Internet and multimedia rose 1.4% to RM411.1mil arising from the increase in broadband customers to 1.6 million during the quarter from 1.4 million in the corresponding period of 2009.

AmResearch Sdn Bhd in its report states that TM's normalised earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) margin moved up against second quarter of financial year ending Dec 31 to 33.2% (from 31.5%) due to higher cost of supplies and materials, marketing expenses and other operating costs, mainly due to the faster rolling out of UniFi.

Apart from managing current business that we have, we also have to invest in the future. HSBB is the future and there will be high investment for now, which will increase our cost and see some pressure on our EBITDA, says Zamzamzairaini.

if you have steamyx last time... u sure kena like this.. somehow they want to "offer" unifi to non-streamyx subscriber only.... donno why... what you can do:-

1) try to register online using other IC number (old IC perhaps) or
2) register with any agent or walk into tmpoint.

im facing the same situation last time, cannot register online .. what da heck then when check with TM, they claim my record already exist in streamyx thus its almost impossible to regoster to unifi with same ICNO since its a new seperate system....

i guess somehow its a application design flaww... coz for us as user, it should be transparent biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Appointment to install is fixed on December 08, 2010 and I will ensure the contractor have the fiber optic connected up to my 1st floor apartment.

I have ordered RB750G from ItsBit Singapore and it will be shipped tomorrow via EMS. Total cost is US$85.02 paid via PayPal. Should receive it on the day the UniFi is up. I have having problem figuring out how to config the RB750G since I am using MAC unless I can config through VMWare.

Appreciate anyone who can guide me on configuring the VLAN, IPTV, Firewall, NAT and Port Forwarding..

Unifibiz WIFI has NAT support, meaning everyone will be placed on a 192.168.x.x/24 subnet and can share the connection. Any device that connects to the LAN port on the other hand will have to use a fixed static IP address. I think most companies addressed this issue by connecting a secondary router/firewall appliance to the LAN port of the DIR-615 and setting the WAN connection type to static IP (for that secondary device, that is).

My residence is within this category and I hope the contractor will have fiber optic feed to my unit on 1st floor. I shall report the outcome on or after Wednesday. Meanwhile, the RM750G is on its way from Singapore. Order was made from MikroTik's distributor ItsBit Pte Ltd. The price including EMS is reasonable and furthermore PayPal is accepted.

Actually you can retain you phone number by maintaining 2 lines, 1 old and 1 new. But you will have to pay the monthly charges for the old number. Maybe keep for sometimes until most of your contact got your new number.

Guys... Was wondering...

Isit possible if I have my BTU connected to Mikrotik RB250GS and then from the my 2 computers are connected to the Mikrotik RB250GS.

And i use the other LAN port and connect it to my Airport Extreme(Bridge Mode). And the IPTV, my Media Player will be connected to the Airport Extreme.

So Basically, BTW> Mikrotik RB250GS > 2 Computers and Airport Extreme.(Airport Extreme) > Media Player and IPTV

*
i think i will be working like this :

BTU > RB250GS > IPTV & Airport and from Airport > 2 Computer & Media Player

since u need vlan tagging for IPTV, which is can't be done in Airport Extreme

Dear All, quick questions:
1. Any difference in speed if using VDSL2 (high rise), compared to Fiber optic (landed)
2. Can we still renew ip address (currently using streamyx + jdownloader for free download -> can renew ip address by reconnecting PPOE)?

Thank you so much.

VLAN tagging can be done on RB250G and PPPOE & routing can be done using Airport Extrene. IPTV to be connected to RB250G designated port. Media Player can be connected to Airport Extreme.

I opted for a RB750G and let it handles the VLAN Tagging + Routing in a single device instead.

comparison in terms of what?

of course there will be differences between the old CRT TV and LCD TV. plus, there are differences between Full HD and HD ready TVs.

That said, I think most of recent PC LCD monitors are capable in supporting Full HD resolution.

The problem now is that, I need to hook up The IPTV, BTU, 2 Computers and my Airport Extreme to the RB250G cuz all is the the room except my My Media Player which is at the living room + i can extend my wireless range around my unit.

So basically, i will use up all the ports of the RB250G.. Isit best that the RB250G will do the the PPPOE and the VLAN tagging?

Hmm.. not that one... I am not sure with the term "HD TV", "LCD TV", "PC LCD monitor"

Am I right if I rate its quality in this order?? maybe not correct... blink.gif
1. HD TV
2. PC LCD Monitor
3. LCD TV

I prefer to buy the PC LCD monitor, so can watch HyppTV thru Unifi and also can use for computer gaming/working , my wish is to obtain a best quality one

I think it's possible if you have two socket of phone lines, but why? Unifi is very fast one, and you don't need to use streamyx.

VDSL2 can deliver up to 200mbps and Fiber can up to 1000mbps. Quiet different huh. laugh.gif
BTW with current package that Unifi offer, using VDSL2 is not be a problem at all.

I am not sure which one is the best. HD TV also moving into LCD/LED tech these days. Not sure on how to differentiate them. I guess it's about the same. You might want to head to an another thread regarding these techs. The difference, one of them that I know of, is the size of display. Most of them are able to support HD resolution already.

Hence, newer LCD TVs also can be used as a monitor and vice versa.

because the streamyx is still under contract and the owner of the streamyx line does not want to go unifi at the moment. there was a booth in front of our condo (bistari condo near pwtc) over the weekend and i asked the same question they said having streamyx and unifi at the same time is not possible.

Jealous... I have to pay RM6 per month for scifi (on VIP5 here), but it's worth it since i terminated astro already. biggrin.gif

I wish Unifi can offer more channels for their IPTV. At least to compete with money-sucking Astro.

Service is still down over here in Puchong.. Should ask for a day's rebate since I didn't manage to use their service today lol. Luckily I still have good ol' Maxis around to aid my surfing needs.

TM's server status states that all Unifi users around Klang Valley is affected. So I presume, everyone within this vicinity is experiencing the same thing.

Can I share a story here? Since my unifi is gone and can't really do anything...

Recently I got married with Julia (4th December 2010). Initially my life with her was really great. I was almost sure that our happiness will be everlasting. I cannot imagine my life without Julia.

Two days later, Julia was suddenly gone. I started to suspect that something was wrong but half an hour later, she was back home. I felt grateful but my heart was rocking.

Today, Julia broke my heart. She went away without any warning, without any words. I looked everywhere for Julia but she was nowhere to be found. Why did you do this to me Julia? Why did you left me? I called Julia's Hotline but nobody wants to answer... My heart is broken...

Suddenly, my call was answered. I was given this:

"Sorry, this is a technical issue, we will connect you to the technical department"

"That I'm not sure"

That's all I get.

Julia broke my heart. When we first met, when you proposed to me, your words were like sugar. I felt like I was in heavens. You are a LIAR!!! Now you've left me...

Now I'm back with my first love, Sarah. Although Sarah is not living in the fast lane like Julia, Sarah gives stability in my life... I'm sorry Sarah... I never meant to hurt you... But Julia was so tempting... 5 times faster? That's what she promised me... But she's a liar... I'm sorry.... Now I'm back with you... Please don't hurt me...

when i apply for unifi, I'll get a new number for my house right? can i use that line to fax while using internet at the same time?

coz for normal streamyx, i can use the splitter and thus i can online+call or online+fax at the same time. how bout unifi?

As of 9.00am this morning, Puchong is still down. It has been down since yesterday around 3pm. This is the longest downtime I've experienced so far with TM. Last time my streamyx down was not this long.

SLA must be followed (if there is one!) especially for business users. Luckily we have other server provider on 512kps leased line, otherwise clients will be sueing us for unable to provide continuous online support!

You guys can definitely get a rebate.

I got RM149.40 rebate for the month of October due to the repeated failure of their IPTV service and TM's own failure to restore it within a reasonable amount of time. Took a while to get it though, as it is only reflected in my December bill.

The important thing is to first lodge a report with TM, ask them when will the service be restored, if it takes longer than say.. 2 days, ask them for a rebate, and if they agree ask them when will they give it. If they say they cannot give a rebate or something along those lines, report to MCMC. And by that I mean a detailed report e.g. when did you report to TM, what TM promised, etc.

Question about Unifi, watching IPTV, and using VOIP, will it use up our bandwidth? Streaming IPTV for long time will suddenly make us reach 60GB cap???? I wanna subscribe but I'm worried about this. Watch too much IPTV (especially the subscribed HD channels) will take up bandwidth and makes us exceed our 60GB cap??? Plz enlighten me.

There is a RM200 installation charge , spread out over 5 months. That works out to be about RM40 per month if I am not mistaken.

The IPTV box has a HDMI outlet. Get a full HDTV, it works well with unifi channels.

No Internet, no business la. Most of the staff cant do nothing when the Internet down. We bought one other backup line from other telcos for temporary solutions. Last time we have one, but when Unifi come, we feel quit safe to only rely on them. But this incident prove that we are wrong. We cant rely 100% on any telcos.

Just make a report to them, take that report number, and refer with their billing department for billing adjustment.

So, my area just recently got coverage. Any yes and nos from the people who have already experienced unifi?

The booth guy just told me my number also have to change, and I think that would be a big problem.

Besides that, if installation of the cables from the pole behind my house>through the ceiling>to my computer, need extra charges for extra contractor ah? Coz I sealed off my back of the house with a sliding door already. The booth guy say everything covered by installation fee

installation fee is just an installation fee..
for extra charges such as the contractor need to climb the roof and all, everything is negotiable with the contractor..if u dun agree with the charges, u can always disagree before they start the work..

As of 9:55pm Shah Alam Section U5, very near to Subang Airport. PPPoE dial failure. Anyone facing the same thing?

Just wish that TMUnifi has a tweet and updates their status. Look at their Unifi website, just plain marketing nice.

Hi everyone. I hope I can find solution here.
I subscribed to unifi last week, and schedule to install it tomorrow.
yesterday a phone call came. An operator wants me to make sure the SERVER ROOM is open for them to install the fiber optic cable. if it's not open i'll be charged RM200 that day shocking.gif
What is a Server Room?? My place is an old apartment and I'm confirm I never saw a room with lots of servers anywhere near my place.

Thanks

actually depends on building management. some let tm hold keys. some insist to hold keys themselves.
the server room is owned by management but is leased/rented to TM.

installer install at my home that day completed late cos of no key. lucky explanation exceptable.. i was fuming mad at my management vmad.gif

I didn't even connect the TV STB yet, because they wanted to charge me RM25 for 5M longer CAT5 cable ... better to buy myself I think biggrin.gif

Anyway, none of the Premium channels interest me at all ... not a very good choice - won't be subscribing to any of that.

I have successfully boot up the MikroTik RB750G with AirportExtreme replacing the DLink DIR615. It is stable and performing well. Exploring the add scripts for the RB750G now. The RB750G can really do wonders by applying the right scripts.

Yeah, and those liars word the letter as if the VIP20 early subscribers are idiots who mistakenly believe that they are entitled to the 8 premium channels.

TM's letter:
QUOTE
"TM wishes to thank you for being one of TM UniFi's HSBB VIP20 pioneer customers.

As you may be aware, the HyppTV free promotion ended on 31st October 2010 and effective 1st November 2010, charges apply for all HyppTV PREMIUM channels and Video on Demand (VOD).

However, as a much valued TM customer you have been selected to enjoy a continuation of the VIP20 Early Bird PREMIUM channels promotion which now offers you eight (8) pre-determined HyppTV PREMIUM channels for FREE effective 1st November 2010. You will be enjoying these FREE HyppTV PREMIUM channels until your current UniFi contract period expires! After that, standard charges will apply for the purchase of any of these 8 HyppTV PREMIUM channels.

The channels are... <snipped>

FACTS

1. The 8 premium channels were never advertised (on their website or brochures) as a 'promotion' for VIP20 subscribers. It was advertised as part of the package, with no mention of 'promotion' or 'these channels will cease to be free on Nov 1st 2010' or something similar. There is no mention of it even on the Service Acceptance Form.

2. This so called 'HyppTV free promotion' that TM speak of above was only applicable to VIP5 and VIP10 subscribers. This was clearly stated on their website and brochures. Heck, even their CSR said so, as mentioned by some people who called the Unifi hotline during the initial stages.

3. I do not know the exact date and time, but TM silently changed the VIP20 package info on their website around the last few days of October. The funny thing is they forgot to change their FAQS page, where there is a mention of the difference between the VIP packages; beside the speed, is whether the HyppTV channels are Basic or Premium. Last week the FAQS is still not updated, now I've no idea. I did mention this to them in one of my emails.

4. There was no notification at all from TM to VIP20 customers that they were removing the 8 premium channels.

5. So much for being a 'valued TM customer who have been selected'. I'd say go eat shit and fly a kite, you cheating lot would have kept quiet if we didn't send a barrage of complaints to MCMC and threaten to bring this to the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

I am going to reply to this letter.

Added on December 10, 2010, 10:44 pmBTW my 8 premium channels are still in 'Channel Not Subscribed' status despite their promise. Those dipshits, I tell you.

So these channels are not free forever but only for the contract period. So eg if you subscribed in Apr 2010, its free until Apr 2012 and after which there will be charges.

Please note the following terms of the VIP20 early bird premium channels promotion:

4. TM reserves the rights to:
a. Remove, replace, reduce or add the number of HyppTV Premium channels included in this promotion.
This is the line that they didn't include in the original service acceptance form, which means they are open to lawsuits if they didn't give these 8 channels back. But is anyone bothered to do so? Is it worth the time and all? meh I think not, we are in Malaysia after all...

I believe they won't add any channels, the word 'add' is just there as sugar.

Actually, I was also pointing out to be aware that the letter says you are getting the channels back for free, but only for the contract period, not forever. I guess maybe you all already know this. Just thought I'd point it out in case anyone missed it.

With RB750G in place, the connection is much stable with no more disconnection. It worth the price paid and it can be self configured to your likings. The only set back is minimum web GUI and have to depend on WinBox.

Any guide on setting up RB750 for Unifi?

Guys, can I just dump the DIR-615 and replace it with WRT54GL flashed with DD-WRT?

I'm having problems with DIR-615 wireless network. The network sometimes drop.

Everything is not free ma man.. Tired of arguing with them about the channels. After all they already put a notice in the general rule:
QUOTE
TM has the discretion to change the HyppTV channel(s) offered at any time.
At least for NOW, I am still waiting for the channels back as the letter did not mention any exact date when will we get those channels back. zZzz

Everything is not free ma man.. Tired of arguing with them about the channels. After all they already put a notice in the general rule:
At least for NOW, I am still waiting for the channels back as the letter did not mention any exact date when will we get those channels back. zZzz

Did you report to MCMC?

Anyways since they are such slow irresponsible mofos, I just clicked the subscribe button on the 8 premium channels, and let them adjust next month's bill accordingly.

If with WRT54GL flashed with DD-WRT.. then YES but if with RB250G / RB750G the IPTV is preserved.

My internet has been weird lately.

Sometimes i visit geekhack website it takes long to load. Now it's alright doh.gif

But when i check lowyat it's pretty speedy.

is this something to do with the unifi cap ???

This is my speedtest results for my 10 mbps unifi

Torrent test from nyatorrents. As you can see the downloads are all from foreign sources.

user posted image

The du meter bandwidth monitor fluctuates between 2 mbps to 5 mbps. Sometimes i can get 1 mB/s

So maybe the discrepancy between my readings is because of time based cap maybe ??

Anyway i performed another torrent test but from a private exclusive torrent tracker. All sources is foreign. maxed speed.

user posted image

So why the discrepancy ??? Is it because the private tracker users mostly enable encryption or something ? The nya torrent seems well seeded yet the speed difference is huge and yet they are both foreign sources. Why ?

I guess it should be better to use third party router with DLink as VLAN tagging. I opt for MikroTik RB750G with third party access point.

DDWRT is a third party firmware which may hurt the hardware if not use in proper manner.

Oh dear, UniFi deployment is really slow/confusing and misleading the public. My place in Selayang, they did the cabling work 4-5 months ago. Terminated the cables behind my house with the white box, they did testing for almost 1 week.

Then, after 2 months I saw them putting up a huge big billboard behind my house saying "Jalur Lebar Kelajuan Tinggi Kini Di Sini", trust me the billboard is just behind my house less then 100meters.

When I apply, they say maybe 2011 end of the year. What the heck is going on ? How can TM spend so much of money on deployment and billboard and not have the service provided to end consumers.

I hope someone from TM is reading this.

Yup. Very misleading. Was having the same problem but luckily my place is covered. I guess a lot of ppl around here make a lot of noise about the service. In this very forum, I could spot 3 ppl from nearby area.

BTW, for my place, the infra was done a long time ago, since before Raya Puasa. Testing was done in last month and only early this month they offer the service.

What can I say is be patience.

For High-Rise they use Copper Wire iinm.. It will be crazy for the condo management to deal with the amount of drilling and patching up if they where to "pull" the wire throughout the condo =X

In countries where pay tv is deregulated, those USB ports on STBS can be used to plug in hard drives to record your favourite TV shows.

It took like 10-20 secs to load all the local/International page from my side here.

I am feeling the my Unifi FIBER OPTIC is more like 56K now.

From the current speeds UNIFI is providing us.. i dont think so..

(Another Story)
Fiber Optics offer over 1,000 times as much bandwidth over distances over 100 times further.
Basically, Fiber Optic wont have signal loss if its properly laid. Thats for Bandwidth.

I wonder the problem is caused by the DLink RG as it uses customized firmware which may has different power outage and resulting in consequences damages to other equipment.

it is possible to get back fired from current outages though. Or just a simple Electrostatic Damages (ESD).

Ignoring the problem is not going to make it go away. File a complaint with TM, first. If they don't fix it, then file a complaint with SKMM. If you don't know what is SKMM, just google it. The second link takes you directly to the complaint page.

No idea, it just died suddenly, all the lights went kapoot and it can't be turned on anymore XD

Did you keep it in a well ventilated area? As a matter of fact, did you keep both the DLINK and the BTU standing in a well ventilated area? Rumor has it, they have heat issues.

Let's wait and see how long it gonna take to terminate the Streamyx service. As for the Huawei BTU, I can hardly feel any heat nor any sign of warm. Glad that I retired the DLink DIR615 RG and have it substituted with a MikroTik RB750G instead. No heat nor instability issues at all and I do not have to forgo the IPTV option too.

The BTU, RG and Phone are on a table in the hall with a window nearby, I guess it should be well ventilated enough? Maybe I'll plonk a small fan near the eq once it is replaced ..

Jalan Genting Kelang, Prima Setapak, Kenny Roger and surrounding Condominium or Apartment only available on NEXT YEAR.

The Telekom Technical tell me is Q1, but i believe that after Merdeka also don't have.

This is the fact, if Telekom deploy the Unifi on the existed Streamyx location.

All Streamyx user will be slowly converted to Unifi, who will be using Streamyx.

This will give them lose money when their Streamyx customer unsubscribe & go to Unifi.

Streamyx and Unifi in Telekom are Difference Diversion. Their Profit also Separate by two.

Their target is to deploy the service to new constructed condominium like Danau Kota new build Condo that not yet have Streamyx Install.

So that they want save money on deploy streamyx and unifi, hence, they just install Unifi only, save cost earn more.

New registration have to tide 2 years contract, even if within 2 years the connection like or likely hell, user also tide with the contract.

The contract may change with what ever they like, every month or every year, when ever they need to add the T&C.

Maybe TM assumes surrounding people may wanna opt for free wifi at Jusco AU2 and with that the deployment is put on hold.

I would like to ask about Unifi Installation. Can I engage a dealer rather than TM to setup for me?

Because my new house still under renovate, so I want cable installation done first before activate Unifi account.

You don't need to set it to static. Your modem seems to be connected (with the green globe) and everything else is working fine so I suspect the problem is that even though its on automatic IP addressing, your PC may not have been assigned an IP for some reason. You will have to run 'ipconfig /all' (if you're on windows) and check if you have been assigned an automatic IP because it sounds like you have not ._.
