K&N more longer lifespan...Pipercross shorter lifespan due to material used is a sponge based...

maintenance wise, both have got their own cleaning kit...but so far my fren's k&n just tembak angin n reoil...that's it...

my pipercross i just tembak angin oso once in 3 months time n last month after about 40000km oni i wash it...just soak it in a pail of water n let it dry...suppose it needs to re-oil but i dont have it so just leave it be

Haha. Was a funny journey up and down genting.

So at first, into Karak. Up the first few hills, everything was as a normal Gen2, low torque, but still could manage using D. Up to the point where the hills were steep, not a chance for the D gear. So then I shifted down to 3rd gear.

Barely had any improvement . @_@ , so with all the hustling and buffling, I get ready myself for the main task. Uphill,Genting.

3rd gear, no chance. Oh and I had 2 passengers behind, one beside me.
The hills was either too steep, or the car wouldn't just move. I tried as I could moving the car up, with the pedal floored, and in my frustration, I moved into 2nd gear

So I said "Hey,lovely. This works"

Even so, cars were passing me by as if I was a stalled truck. But at least I moved even faster than before. So then I've reached Awana, about 15 mins into the climb.

This is where it gets cold, and tough.
2nd gear doesn't cut it at all! Seriously, the torque dip for this car is BAD. I had to move the gear down to L, upshift the gear manually even tho it was an auto tranny. I could walk and yet the car would hardly race against me lol.

I repeat the same feat til I reached up there.

And now , going down.

As you know how weird Gen2's (well maybe just mine) are when going downhill, mine doesn't do any wonders either. Going down the hill, it shifted down and my rev needle goes up to 4k RPM. I was going down the hill like a madman on crack.

I went down to 3rd gear, thinking it'd be better, as I said to the gen2 " Nah, nak turun gear sangat, I bagi kau gear 3"

Yet same thing happened. It downshifted, revved the engine up, and I moved fast, on some straights.


Though totally flawed on the ..gear ratios and torque dips, the campro is still quite powerful(but on flat roads). But the good thing about the car is that the handling is so pretty that I could eat charkueyteow while going 100 on MRR2's corners and won't spill a drop.

Mine abit different..

Been up Genting's few time on Gen2, and here are my experiences.

Driven by others(madman): This friend of mine is abit mad... He kept D and have no problem. However, he knew when to "makan" other lane (he's an expert on Genting road, a.k.a loses alot of money )

Driven by others(non-madman): Up and down is nice and comfortable.. Driver enter 3rd/2nd gear and let the engine break itself and cruize up and down on it's own. Slow ride, but very comfortable.. I actually felt asleep in my own car (donno if it's the car or it's the driver )

Driven by myself: From the exit of Karak highway, as long as I did not stop (excluding those speed bump), then I have no problem getting to the top. However, all I need is one car to force me to press brake. The second I brake, I need to get into L just to get the car moving again .

i have problem in taking out the engine cover for servicing. any idea hwo to open it ? the + sign on the nuts seems to be worn-out already .

Bridgestone - which cover? if the plastic cover then pull the cover upwards n slowly unscrew it...

but the + sign seems to be worn off already .

go to nearest bengkel ask them to ketuk a bit...

after that next time just use 2 screw oni enuff...

the garage says that he encountered few before, the only way is to break it into pieces . alamak .

just take out the cover bro...so far what i've seen that without the engine cover,the temp slightly lower in my case....

guys, need some help. my sister's 2005 Auto Gen.2 is wasting my petrol. my full tank can only give me 295km. but the bloody meter says 11.7L per 100km.

anyone facing this issue too??

mine 6.7l/100km is the lowest. normal n city drive usually 6.9-7.1l.

i tried once , 60-70km/h , off aircond , no jam .. was on the highway . FC is around 4L/100km .

no la. it is not my car. it is my sister's car. i am using it as temporary car coz i waiting for my waja campro cps next week

this Gen2 she bought since 2005. from that day also the FC like male chicken.

i dunno if u realize onot, going down slope the stupid gear with auto drop, so the RPM suddenly jump. wasting petrol also. usually i just put "N" and let it roll.

another thing, everytime i start engine, the fuel meter needle sure drop. not really alot, but enuff to make you sweat lor.

no, it is not gearbox rosak. the sorhex in proton edar told me "it is like this one wor campro; FUZZY LOGIC" wor. niagaloumei arr....... i asked them can disable this feature onot, they say it is built in one, for safety when going downhill.

FYI darkcroation & makan99 : u guys need some minor mods such as air intake and exhaust system...mine is 2004 model...worst b4 did the mods...now fulltank easily can get 400km minimum....

Auto car always has higher fuel consumption compare to manual car. (no hard feeling, hazril).
KL road always has worst fuel consumption than outside KL.
Gen2 fuzzy logic uses first generation logic compares to cars developed in year 2008, which uses third generation logic (semi-automatic-trotonic gearbox, peddle shift etc).
KL road has alot of uphill-downhill climb (think highway ramp)
KL has road, NOT highway. When you drive 60km-per-hour on a up-down-3-lane-per-side, it is not a highway, it a road.

You think you have it bad? I used to pay RM90++ (when fuel was at $2.70) for a TOTAL of 250KM.

You want to save fuel? Drive below 70km per hour.

Fuzzy logic gearbox enables me to outspeed and tailgates a lot of vehicles higher CC than me in highway and downhill. When other vehicle need to brake, I can go down the same road without the need to brake at all.

You want to save fuel? Understand the car or sell the car.

All of your post is that you got the car for free, and complains bout fuel. Please start reading and research by using the search function/reading on V1 and V2 about the car.

Since this year, I have move from 60$ for 250KM to 60$ to 320KM on average.

IF you want 40$ for 500KM, dont drive in KL or go and drive other car. Proton Gen2 is never meant to be a fuel-efficient car. Proton Gen2 is meant to be a sport-friendly (superb, above average handling), performance-consciences vehicle. It is and I repeat, NOT a Honda City or Toyota Vios where fuel consumption is the top 3 conditions in their car design.

Best cost-effective method to save fuel = control your right leg. BUT as I say before "Drive slow in Gen2 EQUAL Extremely Boring".
Best method to save fuel = install some/all of the mod posted here. BUT it is not 100% fuel saving, rather I would call it Fuel-Performance-Optimizing

Fuel-Performance-Optimizing SAMPLE:
Stock design = Drive 100km-per-hour, use 36L of petrol, gain total milage 400km
Full Mod = Drive 100Km-per-hour, uses 36L of petrol, gain total milage of 500km
(or) Full Mod = drive 150Km-per-hour, uses 36L of petrol, gain total milage of 400KM

Personally, I havent install any mod, cause I'm a driver of the "(or) Full Mod" concept


P/S: To stop myself from being a jerk:

This is a pricelist from sometime in the year 2008. (Shazamn, sorry to copy your entire post )

1. Large Snorkel increase ur pickup abit - RM80(PM me if u want it...can DIY)
2. Drop In Air Filter (K&N or Pipercross) paired with Large Snorkel further improve ur pickup - RM220-RM260
3. Extractor/Header (R3, Hotbits, Powerzone, Wegow) drastically improve ur pickup as it removes the catalytic converter - RM300 for R3 header...installation not included...can PM me oso...
4. Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) improve ur pickup and response (RECOMMENDED) - RM480 if do at my pomen's place in Seremban...other place in kl oso got but some members regret because no difference at all felt once install...still come to seremban...
5. Everco S-Flow Rear Muffler to get better top end - RM250 in Everco Sunway...if he said RM270 just insist on 250...they'll gave up eventually…
6. Midbox/Bullet depends on ur preference...midbox give better top end...bullet better pickup - RM100-RM200 depends on the brand...
7. Adjustable CamPulley - RM360 for item only...installation + tuning around 250 depends on the place u do it...
8. Lightened Crank Pulley - RM550++ for Mythelogy with Dampener and RM300+ for ayam brand without the dampener
9. Spark Plug Cable - RM200-RM700 depends on brand...expensive doesnt mean good...
10. Denso Iridium IT20/IT22 Spark Plug - RM160-RM180 depend on place u bought it...There's also Volker Iridium or NGK Iridium but Denso is the best so far...
11. Racing clutch - RM1000+ with installation
12. PnP - RM1000+ depends on the place and the 'stage' ure looking at...
13. Rebore the head with bigger piston - RM1000-RM2000+- depends on the place u do it and the stage ure looking at
14. Hi-Cam - RM2000+- with installation depends on brand an place u do it...
15. Final Drive (play with ur gearbox ratio) - RM2000+- with installation depends on brand an place u do it...
16. Still not satisfied? Change to MIVEC Gearbox with better overall ratio
17. Craving for more? Money is not a restriction to u? Convert to MIVEC or GSR...spare around RM20,000 for it...


New Update from me on #17 ... Personally, I rather "turbo-lized" or "CPS-lized" original Cam(tak)pro than to convert to MIVEC or GSR

i change my exhaust for 4-2-1 + mid box+ s-flow muffler i do at Wai heng puchong..not bad..can feel better pick up..

r3 headers got stock??rm300 only???wen i can get it if i wan it??

that price list is for last year when r3 doing promotions...

now the price is RM480...just go for a cap ayam or wegow...its gud enuff for normal people...

FPR is NOT FOR PERFORMANCE ONLY...it is a fuel regulator to regulate ur fuel consumption better especially if u've done ur exhaust system...

the standard regulator cant supply a constant amount of fuel entering ur engine for combustion...that is when the fpr comes in handy...the aftermarket FPR is adjustable n u can adjust it to fit ur engine condition n mods uve done...

that is why if u have a stock standard ride with the cat con still attached, i wouldnt recommend the fpr...get a replacement 4-2-1 header first n ur fuel will be more efficient n with the fpr as an add on item, u could further improve the consumption n at the same time reduce the campro lagg...

i've explain this so many times in V2...so after this i wouldnt bother 'layan' any newbies who is lazy to search n oni know to ask in the forum...

my hp no is all over the internet...just get it n give me a call better...itu pon mau ajar ka?

I cannot confirm how much it contribute to FC as i did some other mods as well.

But currently RM50 can go around 300km, city 270-280. Meter shows 6.8l

hi there. just changed my timing belt and aircond belt.

one thing which i'm not so sure, the mechanic told me that the original "setting" for the timing belt he switch it to a different setting. he said the original position might feel sluggish?

this is the first time switching the timing belt. can some one enlighten me ? don't quite understand..confused

careful installing fpr at kakimotor...4 cases we found they installed it wrongly...after a while ur car feel really sluggish...eventho save petrol no use la if drive gen2 same like drive 660 kancil

Yeah, they did installed it a bit wrongly.. But i fixed it myself, they didnt tighten the bolt enough.. Coz i checked that day when i was "layaning" the road to genting suddenly my FC is RM35 ulang alik dsara.. After i went back and checked the meter was at 4(which is usually for turbo cars lol).

I dont do much on my car, just d 1st stage.. Spark plug and performance cable, light crank, bla3. And the FPR of course. Rim standard oni..

by installaing it wrongly i mean they installed the fuel return pipe wrongly...

the standard factory fpr setting is at 3.5 bar...for standard modified with adjustable fpr the range is set to be between 3.7-4.0 depending on setup...

during my standard setup previously, my fpr was set at 3.8-3.9 bar with s-flow setup...for straight flow the pressure is set at 4.0 bar...

PS: we seremban ppl use different custom dummy adaptor n we do notice a lot ppl installed at other place using arospeed adaptor they set the pressure very low...XD

Really? I asked a few people for standard engine they asked to put at 3.0 bar only.. If standard is at 3.5 bar, takut long term effect the engine coz insufficient fuel.. No wonder FC 500km full tank.. Lol.

yep yep, and other small stuff also like plug, plug cable, VS, lcp this and this that...

the fpr helps in concentrating the fuel pressure entering the engine for combustion...

if set the pressure too low the fuel will be wasted bcos the fuel injected is not concentrated at one direct point n is spread widely...

higher pressure helps in concentrating the fuel at one direct point...

simple science theory...3 storey buildings water supply kt mana pancutan air lagi laju...mesti tingkat bawah kan sbb pressure lg tinggi...

lower pressure would caused the fuel to be widely spread n boleh membuatkan kes minyak terlambak (engine sebu)...too high pressure setting would caused the case of minyak x cukup n this is dangerous to the engine...

so correct amount of pressure needs to be set...baru la takde minyak membazir...

Outlook: carbon fibre sticker and alot chips scratches and dents...:P

next upgrade: Brake pads, tyres , maybe rotor..

can recommend any tyres? 15" good in wet and dry budget 200-250

toyo t1-r RM260 at kapar klang...

but toyo always botak sidewall when centre bunga tebal lagi...happens to 3 of my frens so cant be coincidence right?

anyway just for u...victra performs best in wet condition just like eagle f1...thread pon pattern lebih kurang dgn eagle f1...in dry road it only lose to T1-R and AD07 just by bit n ..

been using maxxis victra ma-z1 for 2 years already n previous year drag scene i've been using only maxxis to get 2nd place at jempol n 6th place at sepang...

price around RM170 each...

DC - ram coil is the alternate ignition coil...n quadcore is the plug cable...my advise be sure if u want to use it n pray hard it doesnt putus when using it...just fyi...OEM plug cable performs way better...trust me on this...

I also pray hard nothing will happen to my cable... !_!
