Yea bro..the thing about N97 is that its a fatty! Once you've used E71..u'll like it slim!!! brows.gif

So..dunno lar! might even consider Iphone 3Gs...but I've alwiz love the E71 wub.gif

anyway this phone is a real keeper. the optical navi is very cool. i really like the feel of phones with optical navi mouse like the blackberry bold.
this one hopefully will have better spaced qwerty keys

Not jus the track optical scrol thinggy is cool, new ui and fp2 is worth it as well.. 5 mp camera which i giv little but bit of hope it camera improvement..digital compas is cool as well. Not to mention 10.2mbs hsdpa2... Walao eh..

Nokia's E-series are all out to compete with BB! So I guest it will be affordable..since Nokia global sales has declined nod.gif

Yup agree their price will be cheaper like n96 first time cost about 3k but for n97 the design different and quiet special. For n96 came out the function almost the same as n95 but what you say maybe are right, but scared when almost release the economy become good then the price will shoot up.

Lol just joking the last part yup the price will be affordable

My guess is that it will be about 1,799 RM.
Although it looks similiar to E71, its actually quite different. The mic section is different, and the sides are more similiar to E55/E52, and also the spacebar is shorter to allow more spaced out buttons at that row. And it now has the on off key for the flashlight function simliar to the E63.

i'm on Maxis and the 3G network is less stable than my grandma doing tip-toe.

it's like owning fast cars in singapore....no where to speed biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Theres no saying that they might actually revise the package contents before release because Q3 is still a long way off, and they might get a lot of feedbacks along the way.

The pouch not really take apart la.. Jus becos the side guard there peeling off nia due to our finger sometimes sweaty.. Mine lasted 3 month also b4 i decide to ditch it and use silicone instead..

Looks like I won't be getting the E51 after all as Nokia as answered my prayers by announcing the E72! Hopes the price will be around RM1.4K-RM1.5K. Fingers cross.

I spend alot of time on IM.. having a full QWERTY onboard would provide a new experience for me. coz i've never owned a qwerty device before...

the E72 excites me more than the N97....maybe coz what i look for in a phone is within the E series and not the N series.

im really scared that this E72 comes out anytime soon and in a price too tempting to resist.

i just got my E71 for 1 month only ....GrrRrr then announcing E72.

oh well, at least my E71 i bought for rm400 only tongue.gif can still profit from selling it hehehe.

according to that video, it says nokia will announced the E72 launching in the end of 3rd quarter 2009 with 350 euros before tax and subsidy. which means, its RM1720.88. im guessing the price would be around 1.8k when its launched. and by the way, when is the 3rd quarter of 2009??

E71 was almost that price when it first came out. You must remember this is much better because it supports up to 16G memory card, twice of E71 only 8G, only also the 5MP camera, plus the 600 mhz processor almost twice the speed of E71's 400Mhz.

I'd change to E72 only for its USB connection which support USB high speed 2.0. Having 16GB of memory size is pointless if it takes hours just to transfer files tongue.gif but i guess it can wait... thumbup.gif

If E71 can support 16G, I guess E72 will support even more prolly double the capacity. i guess its good if you have a lot of songs, but transferring via a card reader is much faster than connecting it with the nokia cable.
what is going for it is the RAM which is double and the 600Mhz processor as opposed to E71's 400Mhz.

Nokia always can exceed the limit one. not like motorola. 5700 i used 4G. N82 i used 4G. only 6500s unable to use.

with N86 sell on GBP399, Msia AP set sell on around RM1700
the E72 which stated GBP350(according to GSMARENA), Msia AP set sell on around RM1500, hopefully

No, not as yet. I googled singapore E72.

Anyway the main concern of this phone is the 1500mAh battery which is the same capacity of the previous. but yet the processor is almost twice as fast. the battery will die out faster than E71.

i would expect the the launch price to be a little pricey(1.6-1.7k) .. the price range is set according to the different lines of phones from nokia(at least) and they wont overlap each other.
well for me that range of price is still exp. 1.4k would be nice.. i hope i could wait.. haha

My advice to you rabid fanboys is to hold on to your E71's and once E72 is out, use it as a trade in to get a much lower price.

My dad just got the E71 last week. My sis went to get the same one today but E71 is Rm100 higher this week because of some messaging upgraded firmware by Nokia. There was an additional sticker on the box too. The Rm100 put me on hold.

I told her to wait for E72. Functions are better brows.gif

I NEED AN E72 BADLY!!!!!

Hopefully it came out early september. then sempat get the phone for gf bday at end of month. hahah tat leave me more time play with the phone. tongue.gif

But i'm pretty happy with my e71. heheh no complain so far(Well maybe i need a black housing). tongue.gif

No, theyre not the first. Samsung i780 has an optical trackpad.

THe experience is much better than a trackball, if you ask me.

Have u used those old IBM notebooks with a mouse stick in the middle of the keyboard? Yeah its pretty much like that but much more accurate.

in my opinion, the shortcut keys, (calender, sms, home , contact button) is a bit screwy. I have the prototype e52 and its kinda annoying that i m fumbling on those keys (since they are a bit elevated) while pressing menu key or call buttons.. damn. but ..i m a e72 believer too! ehehe

The phone is sitting on it's box and I can't be wrong with it's new keyboard layout. E71 is seated a few phones away going at RM999 so you see the price different. Warranty wise, I'm not sure if it's Nokia Malaysia.

enquirer abt this baby...
but the answer was quite disappointing..
the boy told me that they are not sure too wheter e72 will b available in malaysia or not...

In some parts of the world, today (9th of September) is their launching date for the E72. I'm now in a dilemma as E71 is a good phone but with the rumors that E72 is coming out pretty soon, there goes the wait.

How "good" a phone is depends on your luck sometimes. My E71 hanged and crashed 5 times since I bought it last year. Finally Zitron changed the motherboard after I cussed them kao kao. Now it is quite stable and only issue is when I switch from my LG Arena to Nokia E71, the E71 keeps showing a message "installing ...."

the phone is in my hands, what do you guys want to know?

IMHO the optical keypad is kinda useless if not annoying, you make a lot of mistakes while using the Dpads with optical keypad activated. I heard it's being sold for RM1900.

how about the quality of the speaker...??? same as e71?? because i hate when a phone has a speaker at the back... then when i place the phone on the table, i can hardly listen to the ringing tone...

No issues with that, if you can see from the backview of the phone, the camera part is actually elevated a little and if you put it on a hard surface, there's gap for the sound to leak out (and amplified). However when i put in on a soft surface, eg bed, couch then it seems to be a problem. But i prefer it this way because for the old E71, i had to becareful to not jab the speaker mesh part when taking out the phone from my pocket becuase it gets deformed and tarnished easily.

erm, yes not so good, even when surfing using the browser, it doesnt really help. would be nice if they implemented something like "double tap" to enter (equal to Dpad enter key) or clockwise circle to enlarge and anticlockwise circle to zoomout (like N900 thing)

Ok even though the Navi key doesnt seem that good, it has a good point for camera usage. Ie. to focus, all you have to do is place your finger on the opti key (no need to press) and it will trigger autofocus just like pressing T button on E71. To complete the picture, just press the Dpad enter key and picture's taken.

Now if you have navi key disabled, you still can autofocus by pressing the Dpad enter key and holding it. Once it's focused, releasing the key will trigger to camera to take the shot. However if you press the dpad enter key and let go right away, it will take a shot without focusing...

Camera no longer has purplish or greenish tint on its display and image taken. It's perfect! Hoorah, good job to nokia!

Yes there's 3 levels of setting, default is on "Medium". However, there's NO setting on the "acceleration" of the mouse pointer which should be the case when using browser. In the browser, moving is very "steppy", ie just like pressing the Dpad arrow keys. you ll find yourself thumbing the direction that you want to go madly & repeatedly to move to one direction.

you cant type on the e71? how big is yr fingers? my fingers are so big and i have no problem typing with it smile.gif. and the e72 keypad is the same as the e71 i think. makes not much differences if u cant type on the e71 i guess u will face trouble on the e72 too

Looks like you're right adrive. It has exactly the same keypad as the E63. When I compared to the E71, it does look ever slightly larger, but i m sure the fat thumbers will still have issues. I never had any!

processor is not the main issue..need to also consider the OS that they are using..example samsung jet 800mhz proc..izit faster then the iphone..its platform they use also bro

i think the 600mhz should see quite an improvement over the e71 unless they really mess up the symbian os or loaded with extremely heavy
graphics. From youtube videos it seems okay, but im not sure on real life usage issit good enough?

erm i m always on 3g so i cant test how long it can actually go. but overall the phone is very snappy as predicted. Just pickup the E52 and you can roughly guess how an e72 will handle. it's the same exactly just that the E72 has some "graphical transitions" between menus (no way to disable). The graphics from this phone is just like any other symbian phone, nothing special and to me it's very "rough". Iphone graphics is like heaven, so dont compare. Unless you want a very nice graphic enhanced phone (iphone or N900), this phone is a damn good function packed device. no more "lousy camera but it is a E series" excuses! Btw, did i mention it has "Flip to silent" and "Flip to snooze" function too??

hmm...if like that, im very interested to know how's the web browsing experience? Browsing web sites like lowyat's front page with all flash turned on, when dragging it around the screen it feels very laggy for my 5800. Is E72 smooth?

E72 comes with accelerometer. Thats one thing missing from the E71. Hence it supports flip to silent and flip to snooze. rclxms.gif

The browser seems very fast, new and improved. it doesnt lag as much, but if you have heavy flash objects on the page, dont lah expect so much . Overall better experience.

IMO, if the demand for Nokia E71 is still high, then there will be a delay in launching E72. 2 reasons behind this:

1) To push off existing stock for E71 up to a certain level so that it is not overstocked once E72 is launched.

2) To ensure that E72 does not spoil the market for E71. As E71 is still selling like a hot cake, why would Nokia release a rival to spoil it's own business?

i just know that i tested E52 few days ago in nokia shop. Since it's the closest thing to E72 in terms of specs (minus camera), the overall speed seems faster maybe cause of its 600mhz.

i tried the menu navigation speed, back and forth, confirmed smoother.
i then tried picture gallery browser, laggy! It seems more laggier than those youtube videos of E72 found on the net.
i tried browsing through full flashed lowyat.net, it is faster than nokia 5800. But, still, not as fast as I hoped since it looks like it chokes if i wanna scroll very far away from top to bottom.

The longer Nokia delays shipping E72 to Malaysia, the more people will opt for other phones if their specs are better. Tried the LG Chocolate? Or is it a reverse strategy? Let you wait and you want it more, then charge you a high price to satisfy your craving. Whatever it is there will always be another phone which will be better, like the X series and Nokia N900 which promise new experiences.

Yup. I'm delaying while waiting as well. Will only buy after 3 months of launch, cos the APs will force 'em to lower down prices.
The N900 is rumored to cost Euro 450. At that kind of prices, might as well get a netbook. tongue.gif

lol. Yeah, it's a little small, but maybe it's because of its landscape orientation screen. I think the size is the same with the P1 if u hold it sideways.

No matter what...touchscreens as of now, still can't provide the feedback buttons give..I'm using nokia 5800..at first i thought it was the ultimate solution but well, it's not accurate. Many times i get false feedback. For etc, pressed but the system shows pressed yet didn't activate unless i press again, or simply missing my press. Maybe iphone is better because of its capacitive screen but still, it won't give the satisfaction of a normal button press.

Thats the problem for the nokia handset with touchscreen, because it is not the best class of touch screen compare with PDA phone, hope that nokia can change the LCD suppler.

Nokia E72 Out now for pre-orders | £359

I've also checked the currency rate @ Bank Negara as at 7th October it is 5.4529

So lets do some math here.

£359 x 5.4529 = 1957.5911 doh.gif

It is roughly going to be RM 1958, and this price excludes tax, mark-ups etc.
Which I suspect the price is going to be <RM 2300 , most probably.

Let us all E72-lovers, keep our fingers crossed that the price wouldnt be as much as that.

Since reviews had also mentioned that this phone can be classified as the BlackBerry killer, I doubt that the price should be lesser than RM2k.

Somehow, dont put our hopes high just quite yet while we pray.

Hmm,i still cant believe that it is goin to be >2k+ cuz i remember the e71 is <2k so i thought they will maintain the pricing of the e71 to the e72 since also not much differences from both phones.

I also have the same thought just like u, as well as many others here.

Just that when I saw the pre-order price for the Nokia E72, I wouldnt wanna assume that the price would be around RM1600-1800 like E71 when it was first launched here in Malaysia. I wouldn't wanna be upset upon knowing, later, that the price for E72 is more than 1600-1800.

To play on the safe side, lets just take a higher value. If it is cheap, then we all untung lah. If it is around 2k++, then it is still around our budget & assumptions.

Shall we take it like that, if this phone is similar to this phone, lets hope for the N900 to be as the same price as N97, since there are not much differences between these 2 phones according to the specs.

Somehow, theres always something special for each Nokia phone.

Fingers crossed brothers, fingers crossed.

With the selling price of USD 469.

And the current rate as at Oct 8 according to Bank Negara,

Again, lets do the math.

USD 469 x 3.392 = RM 1590.848 (excluding tax,mark-ups,blabla)

With the downfall of the USD currency, (as we are aware, reported news had also said that the USD might be facing a major downfall for the upcoming weeks)

Nokia says Q4, Q4 by definition is between the months of September till December.
They did not give a specific date, so jsut accept it as that.
So therefore you can anticipate it coming out between these 4 months.

Aiyo if 3-4 times higher the price should be around RM6-7k, i might just end up buying the E71 + gold plated housing la like that.

Or might as well i buy a ticket for myself to the States, and get the phone at the quoted USD price, still gonna be cheaper than 4xRM1800.

Plus, as far as I know, during my boring economics subject in school last time, every international tradings goods oso uses the USD mahh, if wrong then I must I be sleeping la each time.

Nokia has a really bad waiting game.

I suspect that the E72 will only be available to us somewhere in December.

And most probably the color available will only be in Zodium Black, am hoping for the Topaz Brown to be made available as well.

Hopefully it is worth the wait though.

Can't wait to get a first look at the phone especially the trackpad, read some negative comments bout it, aint sure whether it was true or not.

But the possibilities of it to be only made available in Zodium Black are quite high though. Just like the previous E71, we couldn't find the Red ones being sold at Nokia also.

Regarding whether to choose AP or Zitron sets, for me, personally (i dont know others here), I don't mind paying extra 100bucks or 2, for Zitron sets.

We need to bear in mind that this is a new phone, and no one has ever reviewed about its compatibilities and reliabilities.

Im saying all these because, 2 of my friends who were unlucky they had some problems with their E71 sets (1 was Zitron, the other 1 was AP), so Mr. AP went to the store again just to find out that he had some troubles with the motherboard something2 (as claimed by the shop), had to replace it for few hundreds bucks. While Mr. Zitron went to Nokia and had it replaced for FREE.

I am too afraid of this kind of problem and dare not to take the risks.

Last but not least, I turned the Optical Navi Key on and decided to get used to it. After several minutes of browsing accompanied by trial and error I managed to get the hang out of it: I’ve set the sensitivity up to the highest level, dried my thumbs up, wiped the key with a piece of cloth, and attacked it. It’s so sensitive at times so you have to be careful not to go too fast and click on the wrong stuff. I’m still convinced that within the menu, this key is not that useful. During the first use on the first day, I never managed to scroll fast on a web page. Since June? Haha uve come a long way already. Just a lil more patience that is all it takes.

A few days back, I actually called Nokia (the 1800 number that is shown at the bottom of the Nokia advertisement in the newspaper) asking about the launch date of the E72 and a lady with a funny accent told me "sometime in the 3rd Quarter of the year". Then I told her, "Its the 4th Quarter now" and she kept quiet for about 2 seconds and then told me that she will check with her manager. doh.gif

about 5 mins later, she said "sometime in November", but cannot confirm on the date or anything. So I really hope that she or her manager is right. sweat.gif

Am eyeing for the Topaz Brown. But black also looks good.

What is the color u gentle lads here would prefer to choose if they are available in those 3 colors mentions?

Quick question: Does the E71 color, peel off by itself? I mean, for users with sweaty palms surely would jeopardise the color coatings. Anyone?

Ok NOKIA, u win. NOKIA-1 Customers-0

It makes sense though, that NOKIA purposely delays the E72 launchings. Just to clear the E71s off the shelves for the new 72s to make way. By discontinuing and clearing them off, they can set a price for the 72s without any disturbance by the 71s in the market. While spreading speculations that the 72s' firmwares were unstable, bugs, blablayadayada. Pure PROPAGANDA.

Logically, 72 gets launched, 71 gets cheaper. For people who dont bother, they'd opt for 71 as what they are doing now.

The only problem was, the announcement@lie made by NOKIA regarding its launching date.

opps sorry for the late reply. I got it wrong, its not e55, its e52. Got it at RM1250. Ori version. So far i heard no ap version yet.

So far no major hang apart from Garmin. But it seems Garmin is not hanging anymore. Infact running garmin side by side with another e66, it seems e52's reception is way way better. I can sometimes get gps signal even under a roof but not the e66.

isnt RM1700 - 1900 range a lil high for E72? no touchscreen, Symbian OS....?

when E71 1st came out, it was RM1400+ for Ori, no? I only see some minor upgrades compared to E71, will it really be RM1700 - RM1900?

if it's really so, its quite a turn off :-S

touchscreen phones generally cost more regardless of individual preferrences.... anyway just trying to gauge the price of the phone when it's launched.... anyone can help give a good estimation?

I think it should be around RM1800. A little more expensive than the E75 because of the better camera and processor.

IMO, it wont go any higher than 2k.

n97 got too much bad reputation from users out there. In LYN alone got too much ppl selling it 2nd hand.

& personally, i prefer candy-bar type phone than slider or clampshell. i've tried e71 & e90 for instance, to come with conclusion that e90 is too heavy, & always have to re-open the phone everytime i want to send email or messaging. e71 is ok, but will be great if has larger screen & keypad.

I had sweet experience with e61i before, good keypad & screen. but lacks memory space & GPS.

Now considering between e72 or n900, hmm..

Well, the N900 is not a candy bar too. BTW, I was interested in it too until I saw the method of zooming in/out when web browsing doh.gif , and also the fact that you can't install garmin on it sweat.gif .

yeah man, I feel the same. but i'm looking forward to the xperia x10 for that actually.

1 thing about the n900 though. the battery life is good for about 1day use only, whole day sms and browsing (as quoted by nokia reps who were explaining the phone - watched on youtube) so thats like a REALLY REALLY bad aspect of the phone. sad.gif

They only have underwater sets.
Available only in Zodium Black.
No Zitrons obviously.
And if you are really interested of buying then only they would show u the phone.

And I suspect that the Zitron sets would cost us not more than <1700. Most probably.

if buying early, i'd say buy originals..reason simply because E52 users had complaint the new phone even died on them - motherboard problem. Lucky the guy bought original phone, nokia changed the motherboard with no extra...may not be the same case for AP sets...just that new phones tend to have new problems... tongue.gif

It is on sale here already in Australia for $720 (2,200 Malaysian Ringgits). Seeing one up close it is not that impressive. Brushed metal around home keys looks ugly. cry.gif won't be trading my beloved E71 in any hurry. thumbup.gif

i just got my avaxx e72 from e_trade_pj, dropped by his place after work, yeah the brushed metal part doesnt look so good but i still like it alot tongue.gif

Well I feel my E72 beats my N70 and SE k610i hands down. =) I think there's one giant speck of dust stuck under my navi key though. I don't know how it got in there, quite annoying.

Optical trackpad is not terribly useful IMO. It depends on preference. I'd rather not use it. I've turned it off. The trackpad is a minor issue. I don't see why everybody is harping on the trackpad.

According to some online reviews - the trackpad takes some getting used to and once you know how to use it properly its superb... it seems tongue.gif

probably silver is not for M'sia market....3 colors available are brown (nicer esp. for lady), black n grey (mine)....optical trackpad is good for surfing but need time to get familiar...battery life definitely better than e71...

Is it? I thought that the 72 uses the same battery as the 71 uses? The BP-4L batt right?

Logically, the battery life would be more or less like the E71's. Or is it not?

Im wondering whether can i subscribe to the maxis internet mobile something2 (instead of searching for a WiFi service) so that i would get my emails being pushed to the 72 all the time like BB?

Because the monthly fees for BB and the maxis internet mobile are almost the same. cant remember the exact figure. (BB service for 5MB and Maxis Net for 500MB somethg2, the figures are almost the same if im not mistaken)

Can I do that? So lazy to go to maxis and ask, plus need to switch to postpaid right?

u can subscribe to 3g unlimited plan and retrieve emails 24/7, but it will eat up your battery's life..compare to BB service which will push email (like SMS)
