QUOTE(artemis348 @ Feb 17 2009, 01:10 PM) No, dude, Sampras likes head-heavy. Since the ProStaff 6.0 is very headlight, he stuck tons of lead tape on the head. The Wilson Hammer was originally developed for him, but he refused to use anything other than his St. Vincents. You can see that the new kProStaff for Sampras is more head-heavy than the k6.1 Tour AND even the kBlade Tour. ...that's why i mentioned it was a generalisation (that serve-and-volleyers) prefer something more manoeuvrable i.e. head-light... the top pros wouldn't have any problem swinging a sledgehammer around at the net so they are a moot point... and i -seriously- doubt the hammer was developed for sampras... no way wilson would even present that idea to him... totally wrong for him man... if i could crack those flimsy things, sampras would've blown them to smithereens...QUOTE(Kaerna @ Feb 17 2009, 01:31 PM) Anyone here knows any shop in Kuala Lumpur that sells the Dunlop Racket which John McEnroe uses? I have read some good review of it being a reasonable yet good racket and being a fan of John myself, thought I should get my hands on it. Thx a lot heh i used them... an artist's stick of choice if ever there was one... well, those racquets were GOLD during my time, okay? dunlops racquets (those days) had good touch, were comfortable though you had to swing 'em real good to get decent power... i used a max200g for a while (steffi is still my all-time fave girl |

the Maxply McEnroe is selling in those big sport stores in shopping malls...i've seen them selling in Stadium, KLCC. last time there was like 60% sale for that racquet....after discount rm300+ only...wanted to buy but felt that it's more suitable for pros lol...
but i can say it's quite popular...1st time i saw got 3-4 racquets...the next time i went left 1 only! |

You mentioned Sampras with headlight, so that's inaccurate. Also, volley-ers don't swing at the net.As for Wilson having developed the Hammer for Sampras, that was the claim at the time. How true it is, only Wilson and Sampras knows. Also, if you don't already know, the pros have customized racquets from the manufacturers, and there are usually nothing like the retail versions. So the analysis that if you could crack those flimsy things and that Sampras would have destroyed them is clearly moot. And as Battousai says, you got them backwards. The headlight racquets are more suitable for the baseliner big swings, and the heavier heads are more suitable for volleys. This post has been edited by artemis348: Feb 18 2009, 01:06 PM |

Also, volley-ers don't swing at the net. I stated serve-volleyers as a general group, not sampras (you should really note the wrong generalisation i put in there)... sampras did have those lead tapes, all along the sides of his racquet, but like i said, at his level he could swing a sledgehammer at the net and still get the ball on the uh... hammer... i am not comparing pros with the rest of the weekend warriors mate...QUOTE As for Wilson having developed the Hammer for Sampras, that was the claim at the time. How true it is, only Wilson and Sampras knows. Also, if you don't already know, the pros have customized racquets from the manufacturers, and there are usually nothing like the retail versions. So the analysis that if you could crack those flimsy things and that Sampras would have destroyed them is clearly moot. ...seriously, I am from that time, by that i mean the range was released during my time, and in no time did any publication from wilson or any magazines say the hammer was intended for sampras... sampras always played with the pro staff, courier too (there was a red, white and blue one for him, which if one from was my time, one would remember)... oh and there was an article in tennis magazine also that sampras did play with a retail version of the pro staff (as several of the pros did... not all, but several), the only change being that he had a customised grip size... hence the need for his custom balancing with lead tape... i'll give you a quote from tennis magazine which supports this...QUOTE How do the racquets you customize for the pros different from what the regular player buys off the rack? ...some players like (i'll use one example from my time) agassi, who had trouble switching from prince racquets to donnay, so they took a whole bunch of prince precision racquets, sprayed them flat black and he competed with them... but everyone knew they were his old racquets, all the way to the stabilizer bar at the middle of the uh... whatchamacallit... racquet neck... loads more examples where that came from... i think manufacturers really can't be bothered to make a totally different racquet, even for their big-name big-bucks stars... so you see, the flimsy hammer racquets would've been lighter, or heavier, or different balance, but internally the construction would've been the same thus my blown-to-smithereens point...People see things in magazines that the pros use completely different frames. It’s not really the case. There could be slight, slight differences. But mostly it’s in the customizing. So the inside of the frame is made the same or in a very similar way. The company may add a little weight because the player needs it to be heavier, but otherwise it’s very similar to what you buy. QUOTE And as Battousai says, you got them backwards. The headlight racquets are more suitable for the baseliner big swings, and the heavier heads are more suitable for volleys. again, i refer to my existing knowledge and experience... maybe you live in a different generation where the rules of physics have changed, but there we go... ...okay look guys, i really do not need a flame war here... maybe my understanding of the game has somehow warped, or new standards exists regarding racquets, or whatever... i just wanted to share what i knew, so if you really need to counter my statements, please research first and link me any supporting statements, okay? really, i would like to update my knowledge... seriously i have not played since the millenium so i -may- not have the current facts... anyways, peace y'all! |

i've done my research and yeah what grinner says is often repeated over the internet. headlight does get you more maneuverability and is suitable for volleys but i still believe that you need a head heavy racquet for good volleys and serves just simply for the bite that is needed.
headheavy yeah it allows more power and since u get extra time for being a baseliner the extra weight won't matter but will get you more power. but i still lean on to that head light racquets give u the extra acceleration needed to hit nice shots. heavy racquets allow more power but with the use of wrist and bodyweight into shots, im leaning more on head light racquets.. this is of course my personal opinion and i've seen it on TW forum it remains to be debated because within headlight or headheavy the weight of racquets comes into play as well and again exchange of opinions doesn't hurt. Everyone has one. You just don't need to be known to so and so just to say a point. |

Anything spoilt/lost during the whole process, you bear your own. If i run away with your money, go report polis. I've met quite a lot of tennis members here in real life before & a regular here & on lelong.com.my... My username is the same on lelong.com.my... u all can check my credibility & positive ratings in trading there. If there is any doubt on trust, please ignore this & buy from your local tennis shop. 'try' being the operational word here since the pros have advanced timing and quirks a good coach would not want their charges to copy...but generally, doing that will help improve your game... Try playing with wall, or just simply toss the ball up to train your height and accuracy ( front or back).

I will still be looking for a buyer for my aeropro drive. I have been using it for 2 months so far. For those who PMed me the last time, sorry that I quoted so expensive because back then it was still quite new. Until now i have been already using it for 2 months and still feel it is too heavy. So therefore, right now im willing to let it go for rm400. For those who are interested, please PM me. Thanks! This post has been edited by cartographer: Mar 3 2009, 10:31 AM |

'try' being the operational word here since the pros have advanced timing and quirks a good coach would not want their charges to copy...but generally, doing that will help improve your game... I went to checkout the KProStaff today. Damn heavy, 12.4 oz. Also, surprisingly, the balance is 9pts headlight. The frame looks almost exactly like the old ProStaff 6.0. The PWS looks a bit different, though. No grip size for me yet.

Just curious has anyone actually played with the Wilson KPS88 , if so please post your thoughts on the racket, it would be appreciated if you could post what string you are using and at what tension.
Cheers! BTW for this particular racket , there is only a standard release right, no US version or Asian version with different specs right? |

I am still a newbie in tennis...but i found my skills is getting worse and worst.... would that because of the ball ?? well, obviously not a pro ...so to say that you not getting better/getting worse in tennis -could- be due to the condition of the balls you use... once you find the balls don't have the normal bounce they first had, or the felt on them is getting too thin, replace the balls so you will learn with a more consistent-playing ball... however, do remember that the best way to get better in tennis is if you either get a proper coach, -or- the cheaper way is to practise -a lot- with people better than you, and also learn the basic techniques (grip, swing, footwork etc) first... just whacking away with similar-level people will not help your skills... |

I still find it slightly off for my serves though, probably because of the weight. But generally, a very good racquet, but I doubt it will be my racquet of choice if I were to play a serious match. For rally, or recreational fun, it's good.. but your arms will tire out for sure |

I'm having problem with my grip. At first it's too small, and my hands get blisters. Then I asked my coach to make it bigger, and my hand feels stiff.

How did you define your 'correct' grip size though? WHen you say your hands go stiff, I am thinking that the grip is actually too big for you.
Blisters are unavoidable dude, especially if you have sweaty palms... You'd get it at the base of your fingers and at the bottom of your palm near your wrist.. but after playing a looong time, those areas will develop thick skin, and you won't get blisters again |

While some people have soft hands, most of the time your base grip
determine whether or not u will get blisters. Try taking everything out leaving only the bare handle, then use a soft replacement grip like Babolat's Air Touch. If its small then build it up with Wilson "Pro Overgrip soft". |

Its black in colour and bought it for RM5 2 years ago. Very tacky and quite lasting too. |

Anyway why the heck aren't there some linesmen there for the final?? All these unnecessary cheating could be avoided. Was the final game tight and you know the score? |

Steffi and John were using Dunlop Max 200G as far as I recall , dunno if you meant that lol, yhaaa kids these days sure have it made, my first racket was a huge Prince 110 hehehe, then I upgraded to Yonex RX-37 I didn't like the R series as it was too rectangular, boxy for me, after the Yonex I tried Rossignol , the Wilander racket, I liked it alot but it was too fragile for my style of play..... I think I broke 3 of them returning serve.......I had gone through 6 of them if I am not mistaken , then someone recomended me Wilson rackets, the original 85 Pro Staff when Chris Evert Lyold was using it, that was sooo before Sampras's time, I managed to stock up 4 of them, after 10-12 years of abuse and countless match victories, they slowly broke at the throat *cries* then I was sold on the Wilson Pro Staff 6.1 (colorful racket) then I stopped tennis for 18 years, I only sambung balik last year.
The rackets I have had experience are: Dunlop Max 200G Yonex RX-37 (boron) SP Rossignol F200 and F295 Puma Boris Becker Winner Puma Boris Becker Super Adidas GTX Pro T (Lendl's racket belonged to my cousin he had at least 6-8 of these, all broke coz he strang it as high as Lendl ...72 1/2 pounds. Prince Graphite 90 original release in late 80's the one Agassi was using, that was a SOLID racket, very high up there with the original Pro Staff 85. Wilson 85 Pro Staff dunno what version but this was bought before Stefan Edberg,Jim Courier's, Pete Sampras,Roger Federer made this racket popular. Tried Head Prestige Classic my friend was sponsored by Head in Singapore, so I got to hit with that racket alot. Wilson Pro Staff 95 Wilson Pro Staff 95 6.1 (colorful) Wilson K 6.1 Tour (current stick) Wilson KPS88 ordered I have a factory sealed Estusa Boris Becker Pro Van tech as well, somewhere. |

QUOTE(praetorian @ Mar 11 2009, 06:47 PM) Steffi and John were using Dunlop Max 200G as far as I recall , dunno if you meant that lol, yhaaa kids these days sure have it made, my first racket was a huge Prince 110 hehehe, then I upgraded to Yonex RX-37 I didn't like the R series as it was too rectangular, boxy for me, after the Yonex I tried Rossignol , the Wilander racket, I liked it alot but it was too fragile for my style of play..... I think I broke 3 of them returning serve.......I had gone through 6 of them if I am not mistaken , then someone recomended me Wilson rackets, the original 85 Pro Staff when Chris Evert Lyold was using it, that was sooo before Sampras's time, I managed to stock up 4 of them, after 10-12 years of abuse and countless match victories, they slowly broke at the throat *cries* then I was sold on the Wilson Pro Staff 6.1 (colorful racket) then I stopped tennis for 18 years, I only sambung balik last year. wahlauu weiii.. Wilson Pro Staff 95 Wilson Pro Staff 95 6.1 (colorful) Wilson K 6.1 Tour (current stick) Wilson KPS88 ordered I have a factory sealed Estusa Boris Becker Pro Van tech as well, somewhere. i still have a Rossignol n a Slazenger stick in storage |

jeffrey chia, if i remember correctly... and his brother... tai the ever-present assistant... heh... i remember (damn... here i go again) one time this coach comes in with this really brash student of his (sponsored by pacific... i've seen him train a few times) who kept on complaining about something ... the coach knows me from playing days, so i have no idea, maybe he wants to take the fella down a few pegs or what, so he tells the guy that if he can beat me (the poor guy stringing his racquets) in a game, then he (the coach) will agree the student's request... i need to tell you know that the student's face seriously went sooo like 'huh? this schumck?'... anyways, long story short, that evening we met, had a game and (needless to say
...just something to discuss about... oh and next post, i will post the pics of the *sob* remaining racquets i have, so please, others here do the same? just for laughs/information |

QUOTE(redcaffeine @ Mar 16 2009, 04:14 PM) kinda teary-eyed reading zdepth n grinner talk about "the good ol' times" They are rather good considering its a complex, atleast the cleaners do sweep the courts every morning(unless raining). Though sometimes it could be filled with rubbish on the bench after those kids finish their training.SJBen,since u play at The Kg Pandan complex often,i assume the condition of the courts are good?i wouldnt mind another option to Sunway, coz i live in Ampang, would love to join u if u need more kakis, considering my limited skills If not, its a pretty darn good hard court. Ironically its better than the one I played in Subang KGNS(the golf club). Well, would love to see you sometime. Mostly in Thursdays and Friday afternoon I'll be there with a friend, but it isn't certain. Could be busy with work since I'm a journalist. But if I'm there, I would have the courts booked, don't worry though just jump in and play. Let me know you are from LYN then can already. |

Forgot to let you guys know, the complex closes at 8PM. So can't play at night. Unless they have some sort of events going on(its rare to have events though at night), then can play.
Weekends you will need to book in advance, since the offices are close on weekend. |

Hello all sensei, I would like to ask if slicing a ball will make it go opposite direction bounce when it touches the ground?

QUOTE(SticH @ Mar 17 2009, 05:21 PM) Hello all sensei, I would like to ask if slicing a ball will make it go opposite direction bounce when it touches the ground? Hahahaa..... no matter how you hit a tennis ball it'll go the opposite direction and bounce when it touches the ground.Well the ball bounces lower if you slice and higher if you hit a topspin. |

QUOTE(SticH @ Mar 17 2009, 09:17 PM) No no what I mean is like I'm hitting to right then it move right but bounce to left when it contacted with the ground, is that normal? its possible, but hard 2 happen. it also depends on the velocity of the ball... the faster the ball's velocity, the harder for it to bounce in a opposite direction motion. if u want it 2 really bounce opposite direction, the only way is u under spin the ball kow kow but dont apply so much push to the ball to reduce it velocity... but IMO even if u underspin the ball kow kow and apply some or lots of push, although the ball wont bounce 180 degrees opposite direction, it will still bounce very low or just somehow bounce funny which already makes it hard to take. where else if u underspin the ball kow kow but dont apply push, ur opponent may not wait for the ball 2 bounce and already return the ball, since the ball velocity is slow and easier 2 intercept the ball before it bounce. so it depends on situation and also opponent. Hope u understand what im talking abt and even more hope that it helps.... This post has been edited by cartographer: Mar 19 2009, 11:11 AM |

Guys! stumbled upon this antique in my uncle's storeroom.
This stick is definately more than 30years old. Its a Dunlop Maxply with its original strings and leather grip. Posting the images for everyone's viewing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So I'll be using this baby in my next hitting session Kiddin man, it'll break my arms. It felt pretty light at first but after a tennis session this morning (using modern day racquets) I got home and this stick felt extremely heavy when I tried to swing it. I think I won't last 30 min swinging with this baby. |

u can get it at topper sports ampang park... i think price is around $450
to $550.. cant remember well... but around that bracket. I had a Radical OS before.. but somehow i find the best Head racquets are the ones made in Austria... the last of them are some from the Intelligence series. At that time Head racquets cost Rm1000 plus.... Oh yeah, u can PM ~Battousai~ too for Head racquets.. he might be able to get u a good price This post has been edited by zdepth: Mar 24 2009, 06:16 AM |

Hi all, thanks for replying on my question. I don't know if my technique of slicing the ball is correct or not because my friend told me that it's completely out of shape thus the ball had side-spin, lol. I'm currently using my K-six one tour and I found that the racket is very very stiff, making my elbow pain. Is there anyway to lessen the pain on my elbow?

There could be a few reasons.
1) Could be the tension or the string is not properly string. 2) Could be your racquet too heavy for u 3) Or u don't have the proper technique tennis shot when u slice the ball. Only thing u do carry weight to build up ur Muscles or use lighter racquet see this will help u or not QUOTE(SticH @ Mar 28 2009, 12:45 PM) Hi all, thanks for replying on my question. No, I just simply slice the ball WITHOUT learning technique, =D. Btw, is there any way to overcome the stiffness of a racket?

Hi SticH, I always believe that we should choose racquets that suit us physically and game play wise not the other way round where we have to build muscle because we want to use a certain racquet.
If the injury is getting worse but you still long to play the game, I'd suggest you go for power racquets. Although it doesn't have the glamour as no touring pros uses em but its best way to prevent more injury. |

The pain in elbow normally caused by serving which I use 2-3x power in that shot. I can't be changing the racket since it's newly bought and building muscle is not that difficult i think.. But is building muscle can lessen the pain u get in the elbow?
Luckykid: Perhaps yours is team, k-six one is a very stiff racket, it gives out alot vibration. |

Dont pound flat serves like a sakai... u are really asking for it (pain).
You can win in tennis without using mad power. U probably havent met an opponent that can beat u with only lobs & slices... but hey, u can do whatever you want.. its your style. Anyway like ckseong said.. u dont change your physical attributes to cope with your gear... its the other way around. Gear, u can go out & buy tomorrow.... but technique & physical conditions cannot be bought & cannot be attained instantly. If you still decide to keep your racquet, have a rest, rehabilitate & strengthen your arm , hit with correct technique & dont pull weird stunts |

Well, I guess I'll just build up some muscle and stop practicing serve for a moment until my elbow can withstand the vibration since I cant afford to buy a new racket as a replacement, thank you all for your help. |

If you are experiencing some type of elbow pain, I strongly suggest the following:
1.Check to see if your grip size is too big or small , the harder you have to grip a racket , the more unnecessary muscles you use, the more stress you put on your arm. 2.Check your string tension, if you are using a POLY type string, did you string 10% BELOW your normal playing tension, I personally feel poly should be strung at a way lower tension, 48-52 max.If you can afford it try natural gut, or buy a multifilament type string. 3.Stroke wise, I think if you don't have the basics for a tennis stroke, you shouldn't of bought the ktour 6.1 it is a very unforgiving racket, slight mishit on the stringbed and you will know it, ask Federer himself.... |

Building muscle is not difficult, BUT building efficient and STRONG forearm muscles are.Luckykid: Perhaps yours is team, k-six one is a very stiff racket, it gives out alot vibration. Can it lessen the pain? Yes it can because you have more control over your racquet and ultimately, your arm. I don't see how the K-six one is giving out as much vibration as you said. Are you having the correct strokes or not? QUOTE(SticH @ Mar 29 2009, 10:10 PM) Perhaps you're doing normal stroke? Try flat serve with your maximum power for around 20 times. I know where you're going here. Exactly the same thing I did when I held a tennis racquet and attempted to serve the ball for the first time in my life. I just hit a flat serve repeatedly(eventhough 9 out of 10 shots they are "home runs"). Guess what, tennis elbow the next morning.Which exercise do you recommend? Maybe lifting weight with my right hand? I'm a beginner too, but I played badminton before, so hitting the sweat spot is not a problem for me. 1) You aren't having the right serving motion, not pronating, and also not having a correct follow-through. You think you have, but in reality you don't. No offense, but its true. 2) You keep your wrist too tight all the way through your serving motion, this isn't badminton man. Its tennis. 3) You only want to hit the ball, you aren't aiming where you are hitting. Thus you just hit with all your strentgh. QUOTE(SticH @ Mar 30 2009, 01:17 AM) For the pounding serve like a sakai part actually comes from my badminton, which when I see a high ball, I'll smash it with all my strength but there are no pain/injury on my wrist/elbow, and I had tried hitting them with lighter power but the ball flew either high or a lob(?) because I'm holding back and not completing the follow through. Well, I guess I'll just build up some muscle and stop practicing serve for a moment until my elbow can withstand the vibration since I cant afford to buy a new racket as a replacement, thank you all for your help. I'm a badminton player before and I heavily played badminton only. So we're in the same situation here. Throw badminto away, build your style into tennis. When I mean throw, I don't mean forget about badminton. Keep your mind straight, tennis is tennis, badminton is badminton. Despite the similarities in away, they are a different sport. Actually, what you should do is build up your footwork first more than anything. Building arm muscles is a nessasity, but it isn't crucial. Do light serves, don't worry where the ball goes. Just get the hang of entire motion from tossing the ball to your follow through. Learn to hit first before attempting to hit. |

FAI, vibration in a tennis racket does not affect the body i.e. causing tennis elbow... -shock- mainly causes tennis elbow... vibration and shock are two very different things... reducing vibration does not reduce shock caused by ball impact... as another poster said, either reduce the tension you string your racquets with/use softer strings, or change the racquet altogether... having tree trunks for arms from exercising will not have much effect when the shock coming in is still the same... true, proper technique and conditioning helps to an extent, but in tennis terms, if your arm cannot take the existing shock, better look at the options...

no matter how tall you are... u're still shorter than me
I think the best are from the discontinued Wilson W Line which are designed especially for women... U can still get them at Topper Sports Ampang Park now at a discounted price. I've tried them before out of curiosity of what it feels like to be maria sharapova minus the $50 per-pop whore shriek & to my surprise it felt stable & err.. vogue? Anyway below are one of them... pretty sexy eh? ![]() http://www.wilson-w.jp/wline.html <--- W Line site |

To all who were looking for Ultimate Sports contact... ( I was one of them and could find it on lowyat.net the last time round)
Ultimate Sports (Ultimate Industries Sdn Bhd) No 68 Jalan Mamanda 1 68000 Ampang, Selangor Tel: 03-42562833/3833 Fax: 03-42562933 Hotline: 016-6168491 FYI for price comparison, I recently strung my racket with Wilson Kgut Pro 17gauge at Topper Sports @ Plaza Ampang for RM89, I asked Ultimate they say string and all for RM55 for Kgut (though they were out of stock). Seems like a huge difference in price to me... so if you are planning to string ur rackets at Ultimate maybe give them a call to confirm the price again and compare with Topper 1st before going. |

True, true.
Although it never hurts to get a racquet that you like, suits you best and you're comfortable with. Recreation or not. |

I totally agree with you there... that's why she shouldn't fret on the technical details... at that level he/she can just pick up the racquet and determine if it's too heavy or too light, and grip is just nice or not... which is just about what players of that level can gauge, and probably that's all they need to know... balance, weight, flex etc just jumbles everything up... again, not undermining anyone or any level, it is just that way... first and foremost it is just a game, albeit an utterly fantastic game
QUOTE Tennis a very simple game. You run to the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it goes out, sometimes it rains. ... uh just re-read my post, and just to clarify, i totally agree with your statement SSJBen... don't want you thinking i am contradicting you or anything... that was absolutely correct... if you have the time and willingness, go out and explore, if not, just whack it (properly) |

QUOTE(grinner @ Apr 3 2009, 08:50 AM) hey guys, anyone using or perhaps played with the dunlop aerogel 300? can you tell me how it feels/plays? thinking of changing to this la... Just used it once when I switched racquets with my friend during a match for the heck of it.But based on that few shots I have with the Aerogel 300, I would say its a very good racquet. I always prefer my racquet head to be smaller than 95 sq. inches(my Prince is 90 sq. inches), so the slightly bigger head on the Aerogel 300 did give me more power but I didn't lose much of any precision or control with it. I think atleast its best for groundstrokes, volleys I can't say much because I only got one volley shot before I returned the racquet to my friend. Wasn't my time to serve too, but I reckon it should be rather good too. Another thing is that I notice how the Aerogel 300 is easy on a beginner and has the right elements to give you what you want if you are a veteran. Sorry couldn't say much, my time usage of the Aerogel 300 is less than 5 minutes.... |

QUOTE(grinner @ Apr 3 2009, 08:50 AM) hey guys, anyone using or perhaps played with the dunlop aerogel 300? can you tell me how it feels/plays? thinking of changing to this la... i used this stick 6 for months together with my mfil300 b4 i sold it for k6.1team.. so far, not a bad racket.. good for serve and volley.. good for baseliner also.. however if compared to its elder brother, mfil300, mfil is more solid...but u might add some weight at the frame later according to ur taste. i took my aerogel if i want to play more backhand shots and volley..just be careful coz aerogel 300 has 2 different spec even though it is same AG300, i bought mine which was 10.9 strung weight and 61stiffness.. i went to same store last month, the tauke showed me AG300 with lighter (cant remember its weight maybe around 10.75 oz) version and 64 of stiffness. u can try 4d version, try 1st and then give ur feedback here.. if good i will buy it.. hehe .. quite menyesal dowh, sold that racket for a wilson..i still cant get used to ksixone team..may be coz i grow up with dunlop sticks.. |

No offense either. Perhaps you misunderstood that statement and I misinterpret "veteran" wrongly. Sorry about that. 1 is modern style 1 is classic style. if you know how to transfer weight well then modern forehand is the way to go. lots of coaches main tembak only when teaching modern style while forgetting to focus on weight transfer. synchronize your body movement with your arm movement when going forward. if cant do it well then better stick to classic

I learn it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtuTHsFlfGg Go ahead and try it out.Its a very nice change of forehand pace. But yea, the classic forehand is still easier to use. Better or not, well... its hard to say. You have more verstality with a classic forehand, while on a WSW forehand you get to pummel the ball very deep into the court. Best to have both, don't keep to one. |

The higher the string tension the more top spin produced? and is bigger head size better than small head size in term of producing top spin?

nopes...a lower tension stringbed allows the ball to stay longer, hence the trampoline effect for the ball to flyoff the strings
tighter strings allows player to, with more ease guide the direction of the ball as the balls are guided by the tighter strings |

hah! ..i just googled this poser and guess what? the jury is 50/50 on this one... yeah one site actually put it like that as to whether higher or lower tension creates more spin... though to be honest a lot were saying higher tensions creates slightly better spin... but the site i quoted before said a test was done where the tension was raised by 50% and created just 5% more spin... i just know this for a fact... when i was using the dunlop max200g and strung at 5lbs more than the recommended maximum, coupled with the small head size, it was a pure b**** to apply spin on that wonderful frame... dang i love that frame *sigh*... heh sorry i do get emotional about the max200g...
...anyways, ~Battousai~ mate... got ya p.m. (i have no idea why i am brodcasting this |

QUOTE(SticH @ Apr 12 2009, 07:59 PM) The higher the string tension the more top spin produced? and is bigger head size better than small head size in term of producing top spin? imo:higher string tension produce more spin. bcuz higher string tension can more effectively 'flatten' the ball at contact, making more area of the ball being 'bite'by the strings. bigger head size can indirectly help u 2 produce spin, bcuz: 1. bigger head size means it helps u produce more power: normally to produce spin u really need to transfer a lot of power to ur spin, making ur shot less pace due to the power has aleready being used to genereate the spin. so if u use a bigger head size, will help u help u in producing more power so ur shot will have lots of spin and at the same time lots of pace. 2. to produce spin, ur racquet movement is alot more, so b bigger head size is more forgiving and reduce the chances of hiting the ball at the frame im not a pro or a coach or anything, all the above is base on my own experience only. so if im wrong, anybody can correct me. thanks. but then for recreational player.. is it advisable for high string tension?
this is bcoz i heard it will cause more stress on ur arm to hit a deep baseline shot compared with a racquet with low string tension.. any sifus here can verify this? |

Emm. Not too high tension. Maybe around 58 to 60... Definitely not good for the arm if the tension is too high. You won't want tennis elbows. =)

if you can, try Yonex SuperGrab overgrip. I believed we have such overgrip available in the malaysian market. It's the best so far i've tried beside Tournagrip |

...about ahwee1987... now here is a smashing fellow... came all the way from elsewhere to meet up with me late yesterday... very nice guy... but come on ahwee, no way you have only played for 6 months... at least a year only can you hit shots as hard and as straight as yesterday... the spin he generates is quite commendable too... yeah, he could definitely kick my ass (now!!!) ...as for me, i might as well find 50++ age guys to play with, since i definitely have no stamina, no footwork and my technique, danggg... 10 years really takes away a lot huh? trust me guys... do not -Not- play for too long like me... tennis is definitely not like riding the proverbial bicycle |

hey guys,
how to measure our grip size ? i'm using a grip 2 tennis racquet with the original grip + overgrip. but i always get blisters on my index finger. wondering is it too thin for me the grip ? but if too thick i feel lost of power. btw if anybody looking for addidas barricade V shoes size 9 let me know coz my fren mistakenly bought for me but not fitting for my size. I'm using a barricade IV shoes and it's the best so far from others that i've tried like prince and nike tennis shoes This post has been edited by Yan: Apr 14 2009, 09:59 PM |

For perfect and comfortable grip, hold your tennis racquet with the hand you are using, knuckles pointing to the floor. Use your pinky finger and see wheter it fits between your thumb and your second finger (the hand gripping the racquet) If it does not fit means the racquet handle is too small for you. If it fits ngam ngam then the handle should be ok...

Hello tennis pros. I hv some concern. Its been almost 1 year i played tennis. And im frustrated tht i cant do a proper forehand with enogh topspin!! . I tried many time to improve my forehand+ topspin, but in the end i "accidentally" learn how to slice + put backspin on the ball ( totally the apposite of the purpose of my training ). So now, i only know how to backspin the ball, with zero skill on how to put topspin on my ball. And i kinda giv up already...Even when serve the ball, i slice it.. ---> So.... with all of my shots produce backspin only, will i do well in a real match? x.x! .... |

I don't think backspin is enough to win you a match.. About top spin, you basically have to roll the ball up. Its really hard to explain without live demostration.. Ask Battousai.

Seriously, Watched too many videos on how to do a proper forehand... still failed. My forehand will end up straight- flat and of course, went outside the court. i tot forehand is the most basic, and yet i mastered slice first lolx... kinda funny and weird... mayb i should try slice it upward juzz like i do the backspin slice but in the upward direction... think that will work? All grips can generate top-spin.
But yes, a semi-wester or a full western is actually easier to generate topspin due to the way you are holding the racquet and the way it is titled. I think what you are going through is that you are keeping your arm straight through the ball, which induces a flat return that goes out of the court. You need to have a follow-through on your stroke. Watch these videos(its just some basic forehand drills, but it'll help): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n1OdR6HpAE...re=channel_page and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TrKHZzetpc (this is the one I prefer) Mainly, you need to brush at the top of the ball. I know how stubborn it can become once you do slices, but keep your mind straight and put topspin on the ball instead of backspin. |

if u're slicing, that means u're coming from top to bottom... for spin u always have to go bottom up.. as long as you contact the bottom of the ball then push forward and upwards, u get spin.. it's really that simple
groundstrokes, bottom up for spin.. the more bottom part of the ball u hit, the more spin u'll generate.. that's why sum ppl lean back to get beneath the ball when they require more spin Added on April 16, 2009, 6:03 pmand..don't try to change ur grip... even wit continental grip u can create crazy spins just need correct technique Added on April 16, 2009, 6:04 pmif still cannot... u need coaching This post has been edited by ~Battousai~: Apr 16 2009, 06:04 PM |

I'm currently struggling when playing with someone with heavy topspin especially when the ball lands between service line and baseline. Any tips on hitting ball on the rise? Or it's better to step some distance from the baseline and wait the ball fall down a little?

Depends how do you normally play. Hitting the ball on the rise will cut off the time for your opponent to react.. but of course there is a risk hitting the ball on the rise because its not easily done and requires you to have very good timing.
As i play defensively, i normally stand a few feet behind the baseline.. So for me, i will wait for the ball to fall down while preparing for my shots. |

playing slice on both sides? is it something like what Fabrice Santoro does? i find his playing style very special...can really irritate some pro players!

Personally, I like people who play heavy top spin. I like it when the ball jumps high towards me... I found it easier to hit harder back with spin (bend your racket head even more during contact point) or You can stand behind the baseline even more and time the hit when the ball is slowing down. The first way requires practice so if the person who hits top spins is your friend then you're lucky because it helps you in the future.... A LOT!
Remember to hit to their back hands so as to minimize the chances of top spins haha... That's my take |

Not funny when you hit it to a person who creates immense topspin with his/her backhand.
Took that lesson the hard way when I did it once to a person who I thought had weak backhands. |

QUOTE(darky @ Apr 17 2009, 12:27 AM) how to know if my backhand got topspin or not? i feel my backhand is solid but then want to try out something new on that wing.... basically, if you first hit it (your backhand) with topspin, then your ball will have topspin as well...?!? makes sense? anyways, topspin, whether forehand or backhand makes the ball bounce higher once it touches your opponent's court... it will also have a higher clearance over the net and sharper angle of fall compared to a flat backhand... a topspin backhand is always a good shot to have in your arsenal due to its higher net clearance and also gives you options in terms of shot-angle... disadvantages are you have to exert a bit more effort to generate sufficient bite, and also you will have problems with sliced or low shots... that's why you need to add as many shots as you can to play effectively, so do try to add more options to your strokes, kudos to you mate! |

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Apr 16 2009, 05:36 PM) All grips can generate top-spin. QUOTE(~Battousai~ @ Apr 16 2009, 06:03 PM) if u're slicing, that means u're coming from top to bottom... for spin u always have to go bottom up.. as long as you contact the bottom of the ball then push forward and upwards, u get spin.. it's really that simple Thanks alot huhu. That second video really helped me. And those advice from battosai oso really helped. This morning training for more than 2 hours just to get it done. I can see my shots hv topspin and hit the ground, BUT now i hv a new problem isk isk. Mostly its hard to make the ball high enough to pass over the net ( but if it did passed over, it'll surely go in a loop motion and hit the ground perfectly ). Aiyo... head ache... groundstrokes, bottom up for spin.. the more bottom part of the ball u hit, the more spin u'll generate.. that's why sum ppl lean back to get beneath the ball when they require more spin Added on April 16, 2009, 6:03 pmand..don't try to change ur grip... even wit continental grip u can create crazy spins just need correct technique Added on April 16, 2009, 6:04 pmif still cannot... u need coaching * And battosai, why is the racket i bought from you sound different from normal raquet? Sound not solid as if the ball hits the frame or sound like you hit the ball with a non-solid metal stick *tooonnngg* . And if you touch the racket's head with your other hand after a shots, you can feel it vibrated... |

When u swing your forehand, your leg moves along SAME TIME for closed stance method. Open stance you're throwing your body abit forward SAME TIME as how ur swing goes. so basically u're combining bodyweight into your swingalso, some player said, playing tennis dont require hand power so much but you also need body rotation when doing your strok.. they said 20% hand power 80% body power by do body rotation...any1 can eloborate more?? i frequently try body rotation but end up overhit strok.. I tried many time to improve my forehand+ topspin, but in the end i "accidentally" learn how to slice + put backspin on the ball ( totally the apposite of the purpose of my training ). I personally only ever use Dunlop Max Comfort. It has a really soft stringbed, I strung mine at 59 lbs but it feels alot more like a 55lbs.
There are better strings out there though, but this is my favourite. |

QUOTE(darky @ Apr 18 2009, 08:52 PM) yes...the babolat syn gut is white in colour...because the stringing is hybrid, that's why i'm confused which string made the stringbed feels hard, is it crossfire or the syn gut? I meant if you decide to experiment abit, if and when your tennis strings snaps, restring using the same setup but drop the tension to 50lbs.Added on April 18, 2009, 8:53 pm i strung it at 56lbs...is within the normal range right? how come stringing at lower tension need to pay extra $$? care to enlighten? QUOTE(ahwee1987 @ Apr 18 2009, 09:11 PM) yuppie..i thought all player range should range at around 50-60lbs??below 50lbs i think is too soft already.. i am stringing my luxilion at 55lbs..nice feel~.. Depends on your style of play, if you are comfortable at 50-60lbs, using luxilon hats off to you, my elbow would scream bloody murder, I have experimented ALOT using Luxilon strings and I guess I am comfortable with the tension being at 48-50lbs, please be reminded that my head size is 90 square inches, I am pretty comfortable with it, I can play 3-4 hours comfortably with no arm pain, but once I up the tension to 55lbs, 45 minutes later I am off the court and I will need to ice my elbow, problem could be age since I am near 40 ( near but not 40 lah), if you are a young gun, 18-21 naturally your powers of recovery are better than mine. |

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Apr 18 2009, 07:27 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong(not experienced with Wilson racquets), but isn't the K Six One a rather stiff racquet? Also, what is the tension your strung your racquet at? ksix one tour aka ksix one 90 is stiffksix one 95 and ksix one team is the non stiff ones other questions so far has been answered by others i personally when using poly strings sometimes put it at 47 |
