Hello tennis pros. I hv some concern. Its been almost 1 year i played tennis. And im frustrated tht i cant do a proper forehand with enogh topspin!! . I tried many time to improve my forehand+ topspin, but in the end i "accidentally" learn how to slice + put backspin on the ball ( totally the apposite of the purpose of my training ). So now, i only know how to backspin the ball, with zero skill on how to put topspin on my ball. And i kinda giv up already...Even when serve the ball, i slice it.. ---> So.... with all of my shots produce backspin only, will i do well in a real match? x.x! .... |

QUOTE(Bepeon @ Apr 16 2009, 03:45 PM) I don't think backspin is enough to win you a match.. About top spin, you basically have to roll the ball up. Its really hard to explain without live demostration.. Ask Battousai. Seriously, Watched too many videos on how to do a proper forehand... still failed. My forehand will end up straight- flat and of course, went outside the court. i tot forehand is the most basic, and yet i mastered slice first lolx... kinda funny and weird... mayb i should try slice it upward juzz like i do the backspin slice but in the upward direction... think that will work? QUOTE(SSJBen @ Apr 16 2009, 05:36 PM) All grips can generate top-spin. But yes, a semi-wester or a full western is actually easier to generate topspin due to the way you are holding the racquet and the way it is titled. I think what you are going through is that you are keeping your arm straight through the ball, which induces a flat return that goes out of the court. You need to have a follow-through on your stroke. Watch these videos(its just some basic forehand drills, but it'll help): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n1OdR6HpAE...re=channel_page and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TrKHZzetpc (this is the one I prefer) Mainly, you need to brush at the top of the ball. I know how stubborn it can become once you do slices, but keep your mind straight and put topspin on the ball instead of backspin. QUOTE(~Battousai~ @ Apr 16 2009, 06:03 PM) if u're slicing, that means u're coming from top to bottom... for spin u always have to go bottom up.. as long as you contact the bottom of the ball then push forward and upwards, u get spin.. it's really that simple Thanks alot huhu. That second video really helped me. And those advice from battosai oso really helped. This morning training for more than 2 hours just to get it done. I can see my shots hv topspin and hit the ground, BUT now i hv a new problem isk isk. Mostly its hard to make the ball high enough to pass over the net ( but if it did passed over, it'll surely go in a loop motion and hit the ground perfectly ). Aiyo... head ache... groundstrokes, bottom up for spin.. the more bottom part of the ball u hit, the more spin u'll generate.. that's why sum ppl lean back to get beneath the ball when they require more spin Added on April 16, 2009, 6:03 pmand..don't try to change ur grip... even wit continental grip u can create crazy spins just need correct technique Added on April 16, 2009, 6:04 pmif still cannot... u need coaching * And battosai, why is the racket i bought from you sound different from normal raquet? Sound not solid as if the ball hits the frame or sound like you hit the ball with a non-solid metal stick *tooonnngg* . And if you touch the racket's head with your other hand after a shots, you can feel it vibrated... |

QUOTE(~Battousai~ @ Apr 17 2009, 11:19 AM) tht means u turn too much u neva push forward d... dont need to turn extra (aka windshield) racquet bottom then push forward guarantee got spin d one.. u spin too much too fast u get tht problem u have.. Yaaaaaaa.... after u mentioned about windshield, and done some research bout it,then i released THAT was what i actually done this morning! Gosh!. I was frustrated that when i do normal forehand, and it does not hv enough spin for the ball to touch inside the court, so i end up adding more turn ( resulting a windshield shot ). So now im confuse what to do now. Should i polish my skill on windshield or...... start from scratch again and practice normal forehand? sob sob sob sobYah about the racket, its Wilson K pro Team with HeadSonic string which i bought from you January this year This post has been edited by pergilahsayang: Apr 17 2009, 12:27 PM |

Hello pros. Haha...last time thx for all of your advice concerning basic forehand stroke. Now i can see my ball does have topspin ( well at last ) and i manage to keep the ball hit inside the court. But got another problem here, i still have to control the power of my stroke. Because i cant make the ball have heavier spin. If i hit too hard, the velocity is too great yet it does not hv enough spin to make it bounce inside the court. What to do now? change my grip? currently using eastern grip
---> Another question, izzit psosible to practice " double forehand" even im not an ambidextrous? |
