G Hotel ! A stylish hotel with a massive feel of post-modernism and is connected to Gurney Plaza and best, Gurney Drive is just a stone's throw away. I traveled on a corporate rate so I had the luxury of getting a deluxe seafacing room at only RM200++ ! Highly recommended.

If you have Citibank credit card, they have promotion right now at Northam Suite for RM165++ for the Junior Suite. Normal price is about RM600++ per night. The suite comes with living room, study area and even has a Jacuzzi. Was just there during the weekend. Highly recommended

Just returned from my stay at Hotel Malaysia, it's only RM138 nett and I love every bit of my stay over there. It's situated near all the clubs, so if you are a person into nightlife, you won't regret to put up a night over there

QUOTE(veron208 @ Mar 6 2008, 05:37 PM) Don't waste your time at 1-stop... few years ago was there, getting lesser and lesser shops. worse, nothing really to shop there. Gunery Plaza, just behind Berjaya Georgetown hotel, ~10 min walk. in fact, you can go to Gunery Drive for makan from here, Its just nearby. Don't mind, when there, see whether Time Square is ready. I understand Berjaya is building another Time Square in Penang. |

I stay at Hotel Malaysia alot of times. 3 star hotel with breakfast. Very budget kind of hotel.
For more comfort, you guys can try out Cititel Hotel, i think the rate is around 155 onwards. Now Hong Leong card holder can enjoy the room from RM140 onwards. You may try Vistana Hotel too. Always pack and full. The rooms are very clean. Even better than Cititel Penang. All is under RM200 budget. |

Welcome to Penang. Also nice recommended place to eat, place to hang out, shopping malls and stuffs?? (ps. visit zoo all those? can forget it) Penang is famous for its Nasi Kandar. Do try and and have a taste. While there, you may want to ask the waiter, when would be the next gathering. If you are lucky to be invited to one, you might even get a RM 100 for your efforts. To hang out in a non-touristy trap place, I would suggest Komtar. Not to be confused with the Sg Wang wannabe Prangin Mall, Komtar is the real deal. Just in there you can see a melting pots of regional country shops, a truly multicultural group of people gathering around inside the shopping centre. Since Penang hires a lot of foreign talents, Komtar has been their defacto gathering place for these groups of selected expatriates. For the so called 'stuffs', you happened to come at the right time to one of the top event of penang. Held annually in Mount Erskine, it is truly a sight to behold. The annual fest see Mount Erskine transform from a normal mountain to a smoky one, which from far would reminds you of an active volcano. To see this, just pick a weekend from now on. It should be easy to reach, since most people would drive there. Just join in the crowds. For shopping, the most secret best place to get a bargain can be found in the corner of lebuh armenian and the sun yat sen house. It is a market that offers nothing like this in the whole of Penang, and usually operates about dusk anyday. Located in the historical enclaves, you can wander from stall to stall marvelling at the items there. Looking for a classic Puma runner that could be a collectible item ? Look no further than this specialised market. I hope all this will help to put you into a better perspective that Penang is not a tourist traps. Hope you will enjoy this island so much you will come back again. Really. |

City Bayview, Hotel Malaysia, Continental or E&O is the best place to stay cause the nightlife is just there but shopping you'll have to take cab and it's not far except for Queensbay.... food in Penang is reasonable except for some place ... Batu Feringgi area is for thos who wants to relax and feel the sea breeze ... night time also not bad but far from town ... |

town center mah george town lor.
Gurney drive go up Bt Feringghi not that far la but just that not advisable to speed lor. AFAIK Mar Vista is like condo, not hotel (stayed there before but like more than 10 years back) If you want to stay near Gurney hawker center, try la places like G hotel. or further up there's Evergreen, The Gurney and Northam. |

All rooms in Northam & Gurney hotel has jacuzzi tubs. Northam's jacuzzi tub is slightly bigger & can fit 2 persons
You can view it here & also read my full review about both hotels: http://gblog.gpros.net/?p=100 QUOTE(xphossis @ Feb 19 2008, 12:44 PM) |

Well, the snake temple is located near the airport.
Contrary to belief, there is still a snake there. It just so happens that it belongs to the photographer. Do cross the snake temple out from your travel itinerary. Unless you absolutely have to see the industrialised side of penang island. Kek Lok Si, is a grand, disney-fied version of a chinese temple. Rather than drive all the way there, it would be better to drive all the way up to the Air Itam dam. That, is worth a visit, particularly in the early morning. It's located on the same road that goes to Kek Lok Si. As for drivign around penang, heck you better get a map. or a local guy. you might end up driving in rounds since the pre-war shoplots all looks the same. and it's pretty easy to get lost in penang, with all the one way roads. since the roads are pretty narrow, once you missed a turn it's pretty hard to backtrack. oh, and the bikes are the king of the roads here. enjoy your drive here haha... |

Going to Penang this weekend -will be staying at the former Ferringgi Beach Hotel -(now they have changed to Hydro Majestic -does not sound like a hotel name-haha).
I am quite familiar with Penang but not very familiar with eating places in Batu Ferringi. Any suggestions on good food anywhere near the beach? Will stick to the beaches this time -except probably dinner at Gurney Drive. This post has been edited by akmar_m: May 15 2008, 11:05 AM |

I stay in Penang island since I was born (except went to AUS and KL to study), since I am so free right now (holiday) until August, was thinking if anyone interested if I say charge about RM 50 per day and take those who are interested to visit place and eat food that most probably only a real Penangites knows how to go?
Interesting places: Air Itam Dam Batu Ferringhi Beach Botanical Garden Burmese Temple - Lorong Burma, Pulau Tikus Butterfly Park Ferry Service Fort Cornwallis Kek Lok Si Khoo Kongsi – Cannon St./Armenian/ Beach Kuan Yin Temple Museum - Lebuh Farquhar Penang Bridge Penang Hill P. Ramlee House Snake Temple Sun Yat Sen Penang Base - Lebuh Armenian St.George Church - Lebuh Farquhar Tropical Fruit Farm Tropical Spice Garden Wat Chayamangkalaram - Lorong Burma, Pulau Tikus Youth Park Shopping: Queensbay Mall Gurney Plaza Prangin Mall Nice food: Assam Laksa Char Koay Kak Char Koay Teow Cendol Chicken Rice Chinese Pasembur Curry Mee Fish Head Beehoon Fried Oysters with eggs Hokkien Prawn Mee Ice Kacang Indian Mee Goreng Joo-Hoo Eng-Chai (Steamed Cuttlefish) Koay Teow Soup Loh Bak Nasi Kandar Popiah Rojak Sar Hor Fun Advantages of following my car: 1) You won't get lost 2) Eat real Penang food, not those tourist location like Gurney Drive 3) Won't get conned by Taxi This post has been edited by Yeapy: May 15 2008, 05:02 PM |

As a Penangnite, let see how I can help here...
Shopping: Note: We are nowhere near the fancy KL, Klang Valley and Selangor. All we have here is: 1) Queensbay Mall - about 75% the size of Midvalley (excluding Gardens). Not much people there unless it's weekends and public holiday. A lot of shops situated there and Penang Island one and only Jusco is there. 2) Gurney Plaza - This is our "in" place and Penang's flagship shopping complex. I can say it's our 1-U and with a new wing coming up this August, expect more stuff to 5) be coming in. 3) Prangin Mall - This is another "category" of shopping. Well, to make things easy, this is considered Penang's "Sg. Wang" to a lesser extent. Cheap, tacky and rare stuff are all there. This is the place to go if you want to see another face of Penang or buy IT Stuffs. 4) BJ Complex and Midlands - These are the two "fallen" complexes, much like Subang Parade a few years ago. I wouldn't expect them to be revitalize again unless somebody really rich comes in to buy over them. This is also another place to get IT Stuffs. 5) Komtar - I felt embarassed to say anything about this. This place is basically almost dead if it wasn't for the offices for the state government and authorities are still there. 20 years ago this is the de facto most happening place in Penang. Food: Ahh yes, this is our pride and joy. We have food everywhere and they are quite cheap compare to most other places. 1) Restaurant - I wouldn't recommend anything because I am lousy at this category. You can check out Victoria Station, the Ships, a number of chinese restaurants around. 2) Hawker food and centre - No matter where you go. They are everywhere. I don't where you want Hokkien Mee, Wan Tan Mee, Char Koay Teow, Chendul, Ais Kacang, or anything else, you can find it easily. My recommendation for now is the hawker centre opposite Penang Chinese Girl School (PCGHS) and the seafood porridge shop on the way to the airport. Contrary to common belief, the hawher food near Gurney Drive is not as good as you think and almost ridiculously expensive. 3) Fast Food and Coffee Joints - We don't have a lot of Donuts shop, we don't have Burger King and drivethrough is not that common here. If it's late and you are hungry, Greenlane's McDonald is a good place to be. Also, I think I only saw once Gloria Jeans around. Tourist Attraction: Seriously, I really don't know where tourist will go when they come to Penang. 1) Beaches - we are no Gold Coast. The last time I visit Batu Ferringhi beach is when I was 10. People still saying it's a good place to be though. 2) Kek Lok Si - possibly the most famous tourist attraction here. Near Air Itam and there's a wet market at the bottom hill and a dam on top of the same mountain. 3) Penang Hill - still a good tourist attraction. Surprisingly there are renovation and upgrades made on top of the hill. 4) Bird Farm, Butterfly Farm, Reptile Farm - If you are really interested. 5) Gurney Drive and Esplanade - The "near the down" beach I saw those documentaries in Penang and I can't believe that there are so many tourist attraction in Penang which I never been to. I guess you can use the Lonely Planet guides for more help then. Hotels and Accommodation One thing I have problem is that cheap accommodation here is "lousy" accommodation. I really wish we have more motels or budget hotels in the future. The Tune Hotel is coming in on December I think. You can find a lot of hotels near Batu Ferringhi. Seriously, that place is like a very tone down version of Australia's Gold Coast. If you want to stay in the city, you can go to Sunway Hotel, Cititel, Hotel Malaysia, Vistana Hotel, Gurney Hotel, Everygreen Hotel, G Hotel and Northam. There are business suites near the FTZ such as the Krystal Point Suites and B-Suites. Hope that helps. |

Geez... I come from Penang too but the only thing I know is to hunt with my nose and tastebuds... LOL.. Dont forget the mee goreng mamak at Siam Road... the accompanying wan tan mee is v good too... loads of lard!!!! The deep fried pig intestines broth at New Lane... ermm... Duck Koay Teow soup... one road off Burmah Road... the curry mee and Lorong Seratus Tahun! Yeah the original one.. (u have a branch in SS2). While you are around... try the chendol at Penang Road.. errr... there are various Nyonya Restaurant in Penang... the one at the complex in Swatow Lane.. forgot the name... has got quite decent Nyonya food at reasonable price! Try the Perut Ikan.. Many will also not forget to leave Penang without the Tambun Pneah... well, Him Heang is kinda bossy.. but some other brands are not too bad... also arm yourself with a bottle or two of Ghee Hiang's sesame seed oil... the best I have tasted so far.. gee.. I can ramble on and on Penang food.. Hawker food that is... still the best in Malaysia. |

aah this is one mouthwatering thread, all these talk about food, hungry hungry.. if i'm not wrong, Ingolf's is also a bar at night. anyone heard of Line Clear Nasi Kandar with their famous nasi kandar? i haven't been there, any directions would be appreciated
really sad what happened with midlands shopping mall, used to go there a lot, now even the IT shops are slowly trickling out. if you're into architecture, there are a lot of great stuff around like the old colonial houses and the georgetown area. @kamwah haven't heard of any of those hotels hehe, why not stay at sunway hotel, it's got a new shopping mall beside it as well. not sure about the pricing though This post has been edited by ringrong: May 29 2008, 12:46 AM |

Line Clear.. just go to Chulia Street.. follow till the end of the road and you will come out to Penang Road. At the junction of Chulia Street and Penang Road, look to your left. Line Clear is just 2-3 shops away. To know you're in the right direction, Odeon cinema would be right opposite you.
Line Clear's nasi kandar is nice.. very spicy.. but I still find the one in Gelugor better.. Or maybe you should try the one beside Masjid Kapitan Keling.. heard that's the best of the best. That's all at Batu Ferringhi rite?
If u have a car, staying down at the city is also okay coz batu ferringhi isn't that far also. The Gurney is nice, the standard room i think for like business trip r damn huge and it's abt Rm170 the last time i went there. I'm not sure whether they increase the price or not. Alternatively Evergreen is just next door but their rooms a bit smaller, not too sure how much it cost. These 2 r at gurney drive where the shopping mall is nearby and it's easier to travel to the city for meals. batu ferringhi is mainly for the night market at night and the beach water sports which is best if u go from 4pm+ till in the evening abt almost 7pm after that they go back lor...there's few individuals which u can bargain with, cheaper than what the hotels r giving. |

I am sorry that i could not tell you about the boat ride as we hardly like to pay for such a short trip. The hike is good as its green and fresh. |

try google for the wikimapia. I don't have exact addresses
Line Clear is at the junction of Chulia Street and Penang Road (if i remembered correctly), opposite the old cinema Kapitan Keling is easy to find, just find where is kapitan keling mosque. the nasi kandar is next to it. this is a famous landmark, you should be able to find it. For shariff, it's a bit tricky. it's at Gelugor.. in front of the 7 eleven near the post office. |

Dear all, I plan to visit Penang for 3d2n w gf and been confused about choosing which hotel to stay.
Any suggestion? G-Hotel or Evergreen Laurel? G-Hotel : I stay there before and found it’s quite new and comfortable. Most importantly, it’s very near to shopping complex and food court. But the parking spaces are very limited which is very inconvenient. Evergreen Laurel : Never stay there. But heard some good reviews about it. Thanks in advance. |

last few months, i went to penang for holiday and i stayed in paradise sandy beach resort. i found that this hotel is much better but it is located around batu feringgi area and is a bit far from town. there are many sport activities in paradise sandy beach resort. the breakfast also not bad, if i am not mistaken it is deli france one.so i think it worths the money. you can try check it out and see.. |

I stayed at G hotel over the recent Raya week. I'm surprised you said parking is limited, even during Raya I had no trouble getting parking. The hotel was fully booked at the time too.
I've stayed at Paradise Sandy Bay too, the beach is ok but the hotel itself is just meh. |

I stay at Gurney Hotel, quite far away from Gurney Plaza although it's just down along the road. I think the price there is cheaper. Rooms have broadband internet access. Breakfast is great. RM 240++

I've stayed b4 in both G-Hotel and Evergreen.
GHotel Pros: Room is spacious. Designed Zen style which is minimalist. Nice pool. Good service and tasty buffet breakfast. Chili's room service! Have ribs at the comfort in your own room. Cons: Car park limited. Buffet breakfast choices not as much as Evergreen. If there is event in front of Gurney Plaza, could be quite noisy if u get lower floors. Evergreen laurel Pros: More carparks than G-Hotel, Vast choice but average tasting buffet breakfast, more facilities like salon, kids room, health club and etc. Service is similar to G-Hotel good, friendly and efficient. Cons: Rooms a bit dated since its older. My recent stay was in one of the refurb rooms which has LCD tvs and newer furnitures and carpet. Have to walk more than 10 minutes to Gurney plaza. |

BUT i think im the unlucky ones. i stayed for 2 nights in G hotel last december. I got locked up in the toilet....lol wtf right? its because the door knob of the toilet itself is spoiled, or jammed. My dad had to called the receptionist and the technician of 4 came by and drill through the door. haahahaa......we request for a room change and they gladly gave us a new room. overall, its a nice place to stay apart from that unlucky incident.. |

Compare the price between this two hotel. If not much different then take G Hotel... |

QUOTE(teckhooi @ Oct 11 2008, 03:07 PM) I was at Northam as well. It's a much older hotel, some of the wooden panelling in the rooms were coming off. It's also pretty far off Gurney Drive so it's very quiet, you can't exactly walk to the hot spots on Gurney Drive. The jacuzzi in each room is nice though but that's about it. |

I stayed at The Gurney the most. Rates are good and i love the facilities (archery, swimming, gym.......). I haven't stayed in Evergreen Laurel and G-Hotel so can't compare them. northam is not bad. i stayed in their president suite before. its awesome. since u have the car, so even the foodcourt is further down, i think its not the problem for u. im sure u wont eat at the same place for 3 days. penang is famous for certain foods in certain places.
evergreen is a bit old n cant comment on the facilities as i never stayed in this hotel. gurney is ok as well. if u like night life, eg pub. then gurney hotel is the best choice. G hotel is the newest hotel @ gurney drive. n because its near to gurney plaza, its an added advatage. however, i think the hotels @ gurney drive have their own pros and cons and almost the same. so compare the price before making decision. distance is not a problem for u since u have a car. i also suggest Sunway hotel because of its strategic location. located in the city, easy access to food in the morning n nite. especially nite foods. cant forget it. u must try the fried "lo bak gou" just outside the sunway hotel. its superb. suddenly miss penang food so much. will eat as much as possible end of this month as a have a week break!!!! |

n btw i think u can skip spice garden.. too commercialized, seems to be designed for foreigners and the entrance fee is very expensive. Snake temple can be skipped too IMO. |

You can try Penang Copthorne (approx Rm195)-http://www.copthornepenang.com/ Formely known as Novotel Penang.Less than 20 min to Gurney Drive. By the way, dun bother having good hawkers' food in Gurney Drive. Locals dun go there. But may be jalan jalan only. From Tg Bunga u can drive to Bt Feringghi, Teluk Bahang (End of the world seafood restaurant) and go round island to Sg Pinang (lot fruit orchard farm -but may be no fruits cos not in season) then head to Balik Pulau - u can fresh Nutmeg (buah Pala) or even marinated one at the Balik Pulau market and all kinds of nutmeg product. U will also pass by Air Itam (check out Kek Lok Si & famous Laksa) then head to Penang Hill then to georgetown (enjoy chendol - Pg road), Nasi Kandar etc So enjoy yr trip! |

The last rooms is the smallest but with fan only. It comes with kitchen. Is near EQ hotel or the airport. Far from town centre. If you know yr way, U can go to Genting Kopitiam which has good local hawker's food. Try the Chee Cheong fun. Laksa will come only at 12noon. Pg Curry Mee is nice there. Pesta Pulau Pinang -Used to love it when I was young. They have got lot's of thing to see n buy clothing, food, etc, Some exhibitors will bring their product to sell..it can be anything).Games to play (the common one) and rides for children & adult. Is like a carnival. They have it every year. The later you go the whole ares got jam up.hw was it feel? hehe.. thinking go for a trip there.. but got any hotels or accommodation nearby there? transportation?? btw.. I'm from klang. just hope can get any info or news here thank u The nearest hotel to that area is Vistana but still u need to drive to the Pesta. But I suggest u stay in town.Otherwise there's nothing much around the ares. Mostly factories This post has been edited by DrezzUp: Dec 17 2008, 12:56 PM |

My family just moved here to Pulau Pinang(air itam) from JB but I'm still studying in Melaka so i come back for 3 weeks every 3-4 months.. I'm more of a outdoor person who likes archery and so on but kind of lack company to go hiking.. eating is also a passion and would love to know where to get great food from malay to chinese to indian..
so would anyone suggest any fun places to go and have some fun? i've been to air hitam dam, ke lok si, penang street cendol, batu ferringgi beach, youth park, botanical garden and USM.. any more places where i can have fun? after staying at home for 1 whole week watching TV i kind of got bored and would love to go out.. thx in advance.. |

Or hike Penang Hill via moon gate at the botanical garden.so would anyone suggest any fun places to go and have some fun? i've been to air hitam dam, ke lok si, penang street cendol, batu ferringgi beach, youth park, botanical garden and USM.. any more places where i can have fun? after staying at home for 1 whole week watching TV i kind of got bored and would love to go out.. thx in advance.. |

just back from my holiday at penang...i've been to 3 hotel below
1. YMCA - jln. macalister....booked online from cari.com.my this is very clean & cheap hostel, only rm75/night, but location not strategic...there is no food stall within walking distance, and find public transport also difficult. 2. Mingood Hotel - jln. argyl....booked online from airasia go holiday with price rm78/night...but when u walk-in they will charge u rm120/night 3. Continental Hotel - penang road, RM108/night for king size bed + breakfast highly recommended for this hotel, its cheap, very strategic location, room are clean & service is good |

Melak KL = 2.5 hr by bus KL Penang 4.5hr by bus so total = 7hr . No idea on any direct bus, but u can try Melaka >KL thereafter take a connecting bus to Penang. More buses this way..& probably u can google for Melaka Penang?
Here what I get from googling: http://www.melaka.net/expressbus.htm QUOTE(lwh88 @ Feb 20 2009, 08:12 PM) |

From the address of the yet to be opened Tunes Hotel & also the location as in the latest Malfreemaps, it's actually located nxt to New World park food court/bistro/starbucks area. It's in the middle of Georgetown...But it's far from Bt Feringgi...
The taxi rate to Georgetown area should be ~RM30. On rapidPenang..no idea..should be the same as rapidKL kua QUOTE(lwh88 @ Feb 21 2009, 10:37 AM) |

ehhh bro, It's IN the middle of Geogetown. Lotsa expensive hawker fair there too..such as the Famous Char Keow teow at Lorong Selamat.....~RM6/ tiny plate!!
Bt Feringgi is located on the North Western side of George town or ~13km away..For me Bt feringgi is good for the nite market. Go there for the souvenir nite market..pretty similar to those in Phuket...(Lotsa cheap DVD there too) Other than that the water surrounding the whole area is polluted...so u dun expect even Langkawi quality..it's just like PD!! Well that famous CKT been mentioned everywhere...Even if u wanted to sit in the restaurant but don't want to pay, there is a toll charges!!
Currently Penangs' hawkers are killing the market wth ridicolous pricing!! Cheap foods available in outskirt of Georgetown but the taste either equal or worst than KL taste..one eg: Genting Cafe at Island Glade...cheap yes..but food so-so only..the highly rated chee cheong fun nothing close to KL!! tune hotel located at jalan argyl, nearby penang road....the most strategic location for accomodation is penang road...that place never sleep day & night...all buses pass that road...easy to go around by bus (cheapest way if dont hv transport)
10 minutes walking distance to go komtar...from komtar u can take rapid bus to go all over the place in penang u can take city transfer bus FOC This post has been edited by dya_ungu: Feb 23 2009, 11:08 AM |

Where are cheap + safe + clean places? Budget hotel/motel level, not backpacker's level.
I know Tunes Hotel is one of them, but are there other places better than Tunes? Preferable places will be in/near the city, but other areas will be KIV (depending on how much car rental will be) Also, roughly how much would car rental cost in Penang? My trip will definitely be during the 1st week of May, either 5-8th or 6-9th. Tel. numbers or websites will help a lot. Thanks! This post has been edited by electronicfly: Apr 16 2009, 01:39 AM |

we're planning to hit the eateries and clubs more rather than going to the beach.. the beach is for another day, another location, lol.
It's not totally out of question, but we need to know roughly how much would renting a car or two will cost first. That's where the bulk of our budget is going to atm. (I <3 airasia promos!) |

St.Paul: Err, my budget is anything lower than RM50/person for 3 nights? Lol, I know, that's extremely low, but Tunes has that price now, and I don't care that it's frills-free.
Thanks for your recommendation, shall go there when I've more money.. Putraskyline: I actually HAVE gone to those threads before opening this, and if you didn't realise, http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=645573&hl=penang is all about where to go in Penang. I did a search in that thread about my questions, and there were no answers at all on renting cars. There were many people asking, but no one gave them an answer other than "don't rent la" or "I don't know". Also, that thread is full of info of where to go or eat. I think if I posed my questions there, it'll be so totally out of that topic. As for http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=633709&hl=, again, yes I've been there before, but that question was too general for me. As it's obvious I will be renting a car when I'm there, of course I will want a place that provides parking. Also, I specifically asked whether Tunes is the best place that's IN the city, not just ON the island. I realised that you did the same thing to a few other threads (putting the links and then closing them.. I'm assuming you closed them, and mine too). Some would do very well to have done a search first, but for some others, they were totally on a different topic! Please read and understand the topics carefully next time. Just because it's about Penang it doesn't mean it's about the same thing. This post has been edited by electronicfly: Apr 16 2009, 09:33 AM |

Bro, you joking ah? for that price, you better go for tune hotels , otherwise it's a backpackers hostel along penang road - and no parking. other option is to camp by the sea - unlimited parking |

TS,
I'm the one closing the thread after putraskline mentioned the link. This is for you to continue posting either of the 2 threads which I will be merging soon together wth this one. Yes probably both threads also dun hv any car rental info & nobody knows as there are hardly any budget car rental in Penang & whole of M'sia ecxcept Langkawi!!..Try this link (Via googling as usual) for list of Car rental, otherwise, sometime certain ppl do advertised their private rental service at the stars classified too...(Cheaper than established car rental but probably no insurance coverage & license) http://www.mycen.com.my/malaysia/car_rental.html But u still can continue posting in the 2 existing threads rather than opening a new one....Imaging having 10 Penang threads in one forum Merging this within 1hr! It was nice rather that open new topic and I believe you are not reading on Penang thread. You are such lazy brat. Thanks for your recommendation, shall go there when I've more money.. There are many other beaches near batu ferigghi which have no hotels. only problem is toilet and fresh water... |

Just came back from Penang..Stayed at Berjaya.. Taxi no meter..Dont like it..But the food's okay, especially cendol and Char Kuey Teow at Penang Road..Went to the Toy Museum..Took lots of pics..Overall not bad la just that the transportation system needs to improve..Its just like Singapore with the people speaking Hokkien and rich ppl with rich houses..Difference is with the public transportation and food..haha

For my personal preferance, Shangrila is the best Hotel i every stayed in Penang. They offer good food also, especially the Spice Market Cafe. Wohoo!
Owh, if not mistaken, recently they(Spice Market Cafe) are providing mother's day buffet, the food looks nice. |

Anyone been boating around penang? in particular the west coast of penang? Any contact for boat rental? or blog on it?
Seems like an interesting idea to rent a boat and visit the secluded spots / beaches on the west coast of penang island. http://www.bluewhalecruises.com/index.htm anyone tried this boat chartering before? |

Waldorf hotel is within the walking distance to some of the famous eating places in penang road.
Well known only to the local, it is located opposite a blue mansion tourist site which is smack right in the middle of the town itself. Around the area is upper penang road, line clear nasi kandar, late nite bak mooi and beef noodles. |

planning a trip to penang in august... i think 2nd or 3rd week before the merdeka celebration.
Any recommended place to stay in town? I'll be driving up with a GPS (hopefully). Going with my girlfriend. Hoping to find somewhere near town and easy access to all the happening places. Added on June 12, 2009, 3:46 pmbtw, budget around 150 per night for hotel room... If can, lower still. Cos we'll be spending most of our time outside exploring. QUOTE(ssiapf @ Jun 27 2009, 10:14 AM) i planning to study in penang, As you thread is closed my moderator, i reply you here.want to know how much it will cost me for foods, drinks, clothes, social, transport and etc per monthly, tight budget. Accommodation is provided. probably staying at the northam area Where are you from? Which college are you planning to go? as i know the northern area, inti college which i'm studying Honestly, living cost here is not a big deal, my parents give me rm100 only for a week, monday to friday and sometimes saturday, i go back my hometown which is butterworth on weekend. For foods and drinks, if you eat at hawker centre, 1 meal will only cost you about rm5-8, but at least rm5 lah. Unless you take your lunch and dinner at Queensbay Mall everyday, that would be a big deal Transport? do you have any transport? if not i suggest you to stay in the college...but for inti, they provide shutter service, other college i don't know... Housing, i'm staying in an appartment, 4people share, total rm600 + electrical + water + streamyx = rm800-900 / 4 = rm210+-. Hope it helps. |

If you historical/war buff freak don't forget to visit the War Museum near Batu Maung
http://www.asiaexplorers.com/malaysia/penang_war_museum.htm I don't recommend you bring along small children, if you you do just be extra carefully cause the surrounding area kinda creepy & the place especially inside the bunker is slippery, dimly lit and narrow. |

So exit which tol? the exit you can't miss la. just that if you want ferry ride, DO NOT go towards the BRIDGE lane, it's stated by the signboard. you have to travel towards the industrial area (Seberang Jaya there), just stop by for directions if need. you can't get lost going to Ferry, there are directions too. prepare RM 10 for the ferry right (it's RM 7.70 to be exact..........) reach there, just follow the line and wait for your turn to embark on the ferry. after driving off the ferry (once you're docked la) then up to you la, turn left to head south of the island, turn right to head north to places like Gurney Drive and other northern coastal areas. |

I am very sure you can get it from Air itam (beside the very small market) they do sell halal tau sar pheah, perhaps you can try to hit it at penang road...chowrasta market - stores off penang road selling local products. Tks. good luck! |

QUOTE(sbux @ Aug 2 2009, 03:23 AM) Hi guys. Any suggestions on hotels/resorts along the stretch of batu feringghi? There's renovation going on in Golden Sand now, so the room rate offered might be cheaper. Next to Golden Sand is Rasa Sayang, also one of the best. Both are under the same company anyway. QUOTE(Crys_Crys @ Aug 5 2009, 01:19 PM) Georgetown not that big, so long the hotel is within the town, it's easy to get around. The other one is Oriental Hotel, this one the room looks a bit old but ok la, also around RM100 nia. Or if you don't mind, can stay at the guesthouse. One good one is Hutton Lodge, single room with attached bathroom, RM 65 only. http://www.huttonlodge.com For Penang hotels: http://www.penanghotels.com.my/ Some people go for Tune Hotel coz it's new - new bed etc. But I don't think it's cheap after all the add-ons like bath towel, air-cond etc. And the room is small. |
