i wanna go penang for a makan trip wif my frnes on dec 5-7
anyone know where i can book a nice hotel below RM200/night?
any recommendation..i used to stay at gurney hotel not bad..but any other options?

Hi !

You can try Penang Copthorne (approx Rm195)-http://www.copthornepenang.com/ Formely known as Novotel Penang.Less than 20 min to Gurney Drive.

By the way, dun bother having good hawkers' food in Gurney Drive. Locals dun go there. But may be jalan jalan only. From Tg Bunga u can drive to Bt Feringghi, Teluk Bahang (End of the world seafood restaurant) and go round island to Sg Pinang (lot fruit orchard farm -but may be no fruits cos not in season) then head to Balik Pulau - u can fresh Nutmeg (buah Pala) or even marinated one at the Balik Pulau market and all kinds of nutmeg product. U will also pass by Air Itam (check out Kek Lok Si & famous Laksa) then head to Penang Hill then to georgetown (enjoy chendol - Pg road), Nasi Kandar etc

So enjoy yr trip!

Ermm....not expensive taste. I like hotel surrounding and I don't mind whether its contemporary design or not. Between those 2, I like Lone Pine more. I prefer more on small hotel because I can get their greatest service.
*
Man ...these 2 hotels r very expensive around batu feringghi n u surely know how to enjoy. Rasa Sayang's room is almost close to RM1k after the renovation n Lone Pine is abt Rm200+ oso after the renovation...he! he!...not within my budget for hotels. And those days the most expensive hotel was Penang Mutiara Beach Resort at Teluk Bahang..Gee...I miss the resort very much. d bathroom was awesome those days. The lobby has beautiful chandelier of WAU design...The tiramisu was Yummy at d coffee house (I can't find that type tiramisu in KL), The Italian restaurant...ummmm...miss them so much!

during CNY holiday is it majority penang foodstall & shopping will b close?
how much taxi fare from airport to georgetown?
*
Ai yo! you r going on the most jam pack day.All stalls are already open during the 3rd day. Price will be up to from 30 - 50 cents. Everywhere is crowded.

Taxi is very expensive in Pg. But I guess u go to get a coupon may be at the airport. It wil probably cost around RM50. Sunno not very sure abt this. Best to have yr own car to go around Pg

i'm going over to penang on 28 29 30 on january.. chinese new year lor..

i wonder all the stall open ar? later makan bread nia....

i stay at vistana 2 bedroom one.. ok one ar?

i wanan book 3 bedroom.. full liao... so i guess that place shud be ok one hor?
*
Vistana is ok. the 2 bedroom actually has 3 bedroom if I am not mistaken. The last rooms is the smallest but with fan only. It comes with kitchen. Is near EQ hotel or the airport. Far from town centre. If you know yr way, U can go to Genting Kopitiam which has good local hawker's food. Try the Chee Cheong fun. Laksa will come only at 12noon. Pg Curry Mee is nice there. (Different from KL but Pg style)/But must go early during CNY.or else by 12 or 1 pm Chee Cheong fun finish. Use the Yeap Chor Ee road to avoid the jam on the main heading towards greenlane. U will get jam along greenlane heading Tg Bunga or Gurney drive.

Rapid Bus - provided u know the route and bus no. otherwise it can be confusing. Not confusing for locals. Rapid bus very new. There wasn't any during early 90s. Therefore I only rememeber Lim Seng Seng bus, yellow bus...LOL!

Chulia street r all the back packers area n u will good food there too... is an old area too. Hardly go to that area sorry...can't help. Perhaps u google for it

Hie.. anyone from here did enjoyed at the Pesta Pulau Penang 2008 at the sungai nibong there..

hw was it feel? hehe.. thinking go for a trip there..

but got any hotels or accommodation nearby there? transportation??

btw.. I'm from klang. just hope can get any info or news here tongue.gif

thank u wink.gif

Pesta Pulau Pinang -Used to love it when I was young. They have got lot's of thing to see n buy clothing, food, etc, Some exhibitors will bring their product to sell..it can be anything).Games to play (the common one) and rides for children & adult. Is like a carnival. They have it every year. The later you go the whole ares got jam up.

The nearest hotel to that area is Vistana but still u need to drive to the Pesta. But I suggest u stay in town.Otherwise there's nothing much around the ares. Mostly factories

My family just moved here to Pulau Pinang(air itam) from JB but I'm still studying in Melaka so i come back for 3 weeks every 3-4 months.. I'm more of a outdoor person who likes archery and so on but kind of lack company to go hiking.. eating is also a passion and would love to know where to get great food from malay to chinese to indian..

so would anyone suggest any fun places to go and have some fun?
i've been to air hitam dam, ke lok si, penang street cendol, batu ferringgi beach, youth park, botanical garden and USM.. any more places where i can have fun?

after staying at home for 1 whole week watching TV i kind of got bored and would love to go out..

thx in advance..
*
Well, you can go round island like Balik pulau area...famous for nutmeg and laksa are not bad near the market. Or hike Penang Hill via moon gate at the botanical garden.

I've shortlisted a few hotels in georgetown which is the grand continental, continental and bayview, which is the most convenient to the famous area?and should i hire a taxi driver for a permanent rate or rent a car?

U can even try sunway hotel, as u walk out so many food stalls (Near New lane) or even budget hotel like Red Rock (refurbished d ) - used to be Ming Court-I guess. Or even Tune Hotel in Penang (not very expensive) Just book thru AA website. Tune Hotel - u have to pay for aircond & bring yr toiletteries & towels or else u can pay for it. Rooms are very clean & new. Sometimes they offer quite cheap.do check it out. Tune hotel locations are quite good as it is near the Sow Tow lane food court (next door only) or u can even walk across the street to Abu Siti lane to eat the famous Char koay teow (Very pricey & u got to wait very long) and also the ice kacang there. And I think there should be buses near the hotel that can take u to Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi & Teluk Bahang (M not very sure but I remember they have it those days)

Dear Guys,

How is TuneHotel in Penang? Any review on this? Hows the parking over there? Was it strategically located on some special makan spot or tourist spot nearby?
*
The hotel is located near Sow Tow Lane makan area. Famous for ice kacang. Walk across Abu Siti Lane famous for Fried Koay Teow which got wait for very long, self service & expensive

The room is new n clean
