Hi all!
I've got some question for all the owners of the tx1221AU... I plan to buy this model within these 2 weeks, so need to your help before i make the final decision...
Touch Screen
Most of the feedbacks seem to say that the touch screen is a let down. How is it a let down? What makes you say it's a letdown? If you are referring to the handwriting recognition, then i would like to clarify further...
when you write on the screen with the stylus provided, regardless of how pretty or not-so-pretty your handwriting is, does the screen capture your strokes (how u write the text) correctly and perfectly? cos handwriting recognition is (imho) divided into 2 stage...the first stage is capturing of the strokes..the second stage is to establish the pattern of the stroke to match a particular alphabet or word or number...
so when you say the touch screen is poor, does it mean that the capture of the stroke is not good (like maybe if u draw a straight line, on the screen u see the straight line with some blanks in between) ? if the capture of the stroke is not good, then maybe it's the hardware problem...
if the capture of the stroke is exactly what u wrote or drew, but the software couldn't recognize wat u wrote or drew, then i would think that it is a software problem...and maybe if we use different software, we might be able to get a better recognition?
so, is the touchscreen a let down because it couldn't capture your strokes correctly (hardware) or is it because it couldn't recognize what you wrote or draw (software)?
Another question for the touchscreen is this... err..this probably sounds like a stupid quetion, but anyway... does the touchscreen works when it is in the "laptop mode" (as oppose to the "tablet mode"). Can you write or draw or drag the windows around with the stylus when you use it as a laptop (with the screen open) or does it work only when you flip the screen around and close it like in the tablet mode?
about the recognotion, i dun really know. but i looked in the overseas forum and found that the mat salleh said the recog mayb because of the stylus..the screen capture ur strokes if u write slowly and put a bit of pressure on it..yeah, the touchscreen works in both mode..

Operating SystemThe tx1221AU i understand comes with Windows Vista Premium...
any option to say no to the retailer and get further discount?I've never used Vista before, only heard of it thus far n yday tried my hands on one vista business edition... i'm not very fond of it ler... and all the hoohaa over the aero interface... tat's a letdown for me ler
And have anyone tried installing linux (watever flavor doesn't matter, as long as have GUI) on the tx1221AU? how was the experience?? Does the touchscreen works in Linux?Hope you all can help me with some answers here... Will really appreciate it!!!
Thanks!
u cant get discount from let go the vista. cos the lappie is pre-installed in the hardisk of the lappie..1st time boot, it'll directly install the vista..plus, u dont get the vista cd..(damn MS )
Vista is ok..but u need a moment to learn it 1st la..but not much different..
i think u can install other OS, but remember, the touchscreen ONLY work on tablet OS-edition..eg : if u wanna install XP, u need to install the XP-tablet edition to make sure the touchscreen work..oso, u must know how to force the driver installation..i heard it's hard to install the driver if u not using the package given..u even have to force install it and mayb u'll get a bit pening when to do it..heh
