QUOTE(blueangel24 @ Jul 19 2007, 08:40 AM) im not silverlake staff, but i have 2 friends work there..so, sorry if the info is not exactly right.. after 2 years, their got roughly rm2.7k.. but i think the money was not the main issue.. u can gain so much knowledge and skills there.. the OS is not using windows.. i dont know what the name of OS.. it's like a UNIX..there's no interface (GUI).. because it is banking system, so u can imagine a lot of coding the main office at Damansara..and i think their working in site based..like my friends, one was attached at KWSP and another one stay at the office since there is no project that need his group to work at the site.. |

they have a close tie up with OCBC group, most of them worked in singapore. the company paying for the rental, heard it's a nice condo unit. and company will pay for your flight ticket every 2 weeks or so for flying back to KL. pay wise, acceptable if you work here. and guess what, they pay RM even you work in oversea, that's very pathetic...

Silverlake deals mainly with bank projects. Gives you lots of exposure to all the banking processes and transactions, so in the future you can go to the banking industry with quite a lot of relevant experience.

i got frens work less than 1 yr in silverlake then jump to bank then straight get 2.5-2.7k per month. Silverlake no bonus but annual increment consider ok oso.. learn lots of thing.. u will never able to learn finish cuz there is alot of thing to learn expecially in AS400. mostly ppl will jump to bank bcuz they mainly doing banking system. so there is a high demand for ppl tat know As400. Good environment too. But now move to IBM there all staf pack in 1 floor. so pack n noisy. many ppl get to stay in client site once they start their work. some might stay for 1 yr at client site. =.="

QUOTE(caffeine3x @ Jul 22 2007, 09:48 AM) Yup..kinda. Silverlake is good ground point for u to built up a base in IT industry. I dont see any flaw in their management but.. as day goes by we need more money and time to settle down. I used to do RPG/RPGLE programming on AS/400 but now have changed my path to Sun Solaris administrative. Thats why I go for bank. |

Indeed now in new building is very pack and noisy.
environment wise, quite good. more better compare to last time in old building. can go shopping after works.. lol easy and convenience talking abt salary.. increment for lower level at most 15%, is to be adjusted yearly. If only you got performance.. -.-" (to cover back the bonus?) so far not so much bad comment abt the company as the senior there is really nice. So you can imagine a good helping working environment. Oh yeah.. i am currently working there.. Ever since joined the company.. was addicted to the RPG program.. Like i addicted to Mac so much.. lol okie.. Next time wish to work in a company where all equipment are mac.. |

I use to be silverlaker there. Maybe can share my experince there.
There is a lot of subsidiaries and i am just in one of it. There is why i duno RPG at all. Maybe 4k++ for freshie is a lot to station in oversea. However compare to others compancy it is OK only especially if you do a lot of sightseeing and shopping (due to high workload? or bore life) I experinces a lot when i was in oversea.. sad to say that many ppl breakoff .. then another case is parent pass away and you are not there. Maybe for me family come first and i reluctant to base long time and got no future to staty at KL head office. Actually anohter reason is easier to look for job. Of cos good point is gain more explosure and valueble experince with colleague. Conclusion for me is If want to sacrify my freedom and base in lousy countries , it really have to be a lot. Just how i feel only and please dont feel i am act. Comment (what shacxz mention is RIGHT) --------------------------------------------- If you are in, 1. Plz go to client site no matter local or oversea as you can earn much espcially oversea. About rm80 min for day allowance. Many ppl will think it is a lot 2. Good for freshie. I am freshie last time, so cant demand much really.. |

I'm goin to join Silverlake on May. My interviewer is Mr Lee (Project Director) - Data Warehouse. The team leader good or not? During the interview, he said i hv to travel to oversea very often. Which country actually? I know Silverlake has 11 branches at oversea, so normally we travel to other branch to support? or other that these 11 countries? Now i realised that no bonus at Silverlake, if the increament is good (15%) then i think its equal to almost 2months bonus (15% increament x 12months). I believe that Silverlake is the good place to learn the banking stuff. Honestly... i don hv experiences in this fields, i'm from engineering line (software). I also get shocked when they offer me the position. Any tips for me??? TQ |

QUOTE(areankim @ Feb 21 2008, 07:03 PM) guys.. i'm a silverlaker now. What team are u in????one thing good bout here is.... LEARNING! guess most of them say the same thing too. it will be really a good spring board. There are many company out there that loves to "grab/snatch" silverlaker. and even put SILVERLAKER is an added advantage in the job description. by this year 1st aug, it will be 2 year sharp for me. well.. no bonus. travel? oversea? depends on which team ur in. my team? The best in silverlake! haha....lhwbrian agree? RPG is really a nice thing to learn. QUOTE(lobelia @ Feb 28 2008, 01:46 PM) I'm goin to join Silverlake on May. My interviewer is Mr Lee (Project Director) - Data Warehouse. Welcome to DW team...kekekeThe team leader good or not? During the interview, he said i hv to travel to oversea very often. Which country actually? I know Silverlake has 11 branches at oversea, so normally we travel to other branch to support? or other that these 11 countries? Now i realised that no bonus at Silverlake, if the increament is good (15%) then i think its equal to almost 2months bonus (15% increament x 12months). I believe that Silverlake is the good place to learn the banking stuff. Honestly... i don hv experiences in this fields, i'm from engineering line (software). I also get shocked when they offer me the position. Any tips for me??? TQ The team that u gonna learn banking and financial knowledge than any other team. tips, get some SQL knowledge espeacially SQL 2005............... good luck........... |

Ex-Silverlaker here.
Working for Silverlake? Different people will find different Pro's and Con's. Well I can say, for those who find more cons than pro, will quit very fast (1 or 2 years I guess, some in days maybe? Haha, I seen ppl quit in days --------------------- [Part 2] IMHO + Per Diem for Overseas are adequate (it is not alot), RM90 per day for normal region, some special region (so far 2 only la + Good base for training up (tools dependant on team you're attached to), and learning Banking knowledge and related informations. - Lost of Msia Lifestlye when posted overseas. - Posted in Msia for fresh grad can die, as your claims are more or less pretty standart when posted in Client Side, and if in HQ more worse >_<". Of course, the OT claims are still there, so that is a minor + point then - Salary growth very slow (alot of red tapes, yearly increment ONLY) - NO BONUS This post has been edited by Haruji Sora: Apr 21 2008, 05:17 PM |

I don't remember how much(so long not OT). Working environment at HQ emmmm just OK.. near One Utama... If based at client site. It's depends on the client site it's self. Parking for motorcycle (FREE). for car mostly park at One Utama(Jusco or GIANT). Inside the building also can(RM 2.00 per hour max RM20). Stress and tension depend on the workload and the team you are join in. Some time don't have things to do also can get tension. Can ask for help from senior (Most of them are helpful) Dress code Formal except on Friday.how abt the dresscode? |

About Silverlake pay, I think it will be more or less like this for Fresh Grads.
Starting Pay - RM2000 Adjustment upon confirmation (6 months) - +RM300 (unconfirmed) Yearly increment (no backdate this year), depends on performance, averaging around 15%. Usually will happen around the month of April (evaluation starts on Nov/Dec) No Bonus as of yet. Parking Claim (Max) for Office (KPMG) - RM150 Flat Claim for Parking (Client Side), must be based in Client side > 10 days - RM280 Per Diem (based on Overseas) - RM90 per day (Dubai and Saudi different rate) -------------------- Most of this are mentioned in previous postings. darkcraw, you got alot of offer eh? Well, I think the best advice I can give you is, gun for the job you think you can grow most (in terms of knowledge and cashflow QUOTE(denver1347 @ Apr 30 2008, 09:46 PM) BE CAREFUL TRY ASK THEM WHAT IS THE VISA THEY GIVE YOU WHEN OVERSEA. Since when Silverlake ever issued working Visa? As far as I know, Dubai, Saudi, and Jakarta projects all using normal Visa to enter (hence leading to the Jakarta entry problem) IF IS WORKING PERMIT IS GOOD ... IF NOT YOU MAY BE A ILLEGAL WORKER THERE. WORK OVERSEA = TO WORK LONG HOURS ALSO NOT EASY, THINK TWICE IF REALLY MAKE UP YOUR MIND THEN GO FOR IT .. QUOTE(darkcraw @ May 18 2008, 11:43 PM) He mean that if you travel overseas (like Jakarta), you allowance is fixed to RM90 per day, regardless you work overtime or not. Overtime claims are not available if you claiming allowance through per diem. Some project sites might need you to work 6 days a week while overseas, and you still get the same rate. Some need you to work very late through the night, and you still get the same rate. Even if you're off or working on Sunday, you still get the same rate, as long as your person is "overseas", you get the flat rate of RMxx per day. About that adjustment+increment, well my friend after first year got RM600. That is RM300 from increment, and RM300 from first year adjustment. I believe though he is lucky, as I heard most first year ppl get only RM400 for their first year increment/adjustment, means they only get RM100 for their increment, as the First Year Adjustment is fixed to RM300 already. |

Oh, I left because I didn't want to travel anymore. And the working environment is quite stressful during my time (2002/2003) as the products are not very stable yet. I am not sure if things improve now.
But, the per diem for oversea travel is good. So, it's actually allowing you to earn quite a bit if you are posted overseas... |

but from other silverlaker here said that no matter which country you r in but u still get the same allowance in MYR... so how you earn extra? eat very "simple" everyday?
and within 17 months in silverlake, do u feel you gain sufficiant knowledge to jump to other place? is the silverlake make u have any advantage to get better job (especially in $$)? |

Yes, i think they give RM90 fixed per day. If your pay is RM2000, with RM90 fixed per day, you get extra RM2700 (assuming 30 days). If you're posted to countries like Vietnam or Indonesia, how much can you spend for eating? You won't be eating expensive food everyday right?
And you don't need to pay rental in M'sia, don't need to buy a car, don't need to pump petrol - basically you dont have much commitment. |

U just need to modified some of the thing accordingly from the user requirement. Im not bored of travel. and for your information silverlake is not the only company which can travel to overseas to work. I resigned 3 years ago. The value that u learn in silverlake DW its not much, compare with if you join core banking u learn RGP, AS400. AS400, RGP is demanding in SG. u can get high paid there. But DW in silverlake its not much value ... they are using Microsoft BI tools. while u can learn those Microsoft BI tools by your own. If you join other BI company, then its diff story la.. Beside the test, I think the appearance and your interview response is more important. Show the right attitude and the chance you get the job is higher :-D |

Go for RPG or COBOL, market aplenty. So long that you are familiar with these languages, dont see why no people want to hire you in future. You will be needed in their legacy system.

Just to be more precise, I am interested to know what sort of benefits offered by Silverlake to its employees, such as any medical coverage (what extent or by which company), dental/optical benefits (some do offer such benefits), etc.
Thanks in advance. |

I just passed my probation this month. I just signed a confirmation form that looked like an evaluation form to me. There was a score at the last page. Will there be another confirmation letter for me to sign by HR, which stated how much increment I get? Please enlighten me any senior?

QUOTE(f4natic @ Jan 15 2009, 07:27 PM) got 1 question.... if the company ask you to go oversea, can you choose which country you want to go or the company decide for you? no u cant. depends on ur team and project base. Some team/project might not even have the chance to travel and only seniors have the chance to go oversea to support the client due to more experience in handling error.Added on January 15, 2009, 7:35 pmgot another question .... any1 of u silverlakers here now working overseas such as jakarta, dubai, or other place?? if yes can you tell me about the living and work condition there? does the pay per diem enough? SL will send 1-3 staffs to support their client at Jakarta, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore. They have project at Dubai currently but i dont have much info about it. Previously there is Japan client but now i think its near the end of the project and support ard. Working condition at oversea? some say its ok but some say there is no day and night even weekends need to work if support is needed. For per diem, SEA countries where their currency is weaker den ours, SL will pay in RM which shud be enough. For dubai and japan i heard they pay USD. And i very hate 1utama now. They always close the jusco supermarket parking in the morning and only open it at 10am. Working ppl will being forced to park in b2 because even b1 is closed until 10am. Heard that it is 2k for fresh grad and 300 extra once confirmed. Not sure how true it is.
3 tiers of daily per diem based on your salary (for those posted overseas only) < 3k - RM 90 < 4k - RM 110 > 4k - RM 120 Dubai is RM 150 per day. Only few senior staffs are eligible for RM 180 per day. Japan is USD 50 per day if not mistaken. |

Silverlake is one of the big software houses specializing in financial systems. They have a good track record and the pay is pretty good. You will find talented developers that used to work for the major banks/life insurance companies there because the pay is better than what their previous company paid them.

this company has many (financial) projects
depend on which team and who you joined. 2 main characters will affect your working experience, your proj mgr, and your senior/team lead btw, you don't forever stick to 1 fixed team. expect to be change and move around, though most proj mgr will tends to retain their team, especially if you are good. their core product is RPG, then Cobol if you looking for tech learning, not much you will find in this system but if you not for tech pursue, you can learn few core banking products. but its likely once you assigned to a specific product team, you will likely stick to it long term. the Java and other new pc tech are in their subcompanies like Axis and other. Well..What you meant by specific product team? What is the team under specific product team? Banking sys is lot; Credit Card, ATM, Cheque Processing, Loan, ..... You basically will be assigned to 1 of this team developing specifc product (ATM, Loan, etc) Sometime you may or may not be reassign to other product team, at most only temporary to help other team for delivery But you can always request to change team, just need to convince your PM and the other team PM, but practically PM don't exercise relocate team member. |

Too many departments in Silverlake. Many types of software being used. They have asp, java, rpg, web based, etc etc. They will only find out once they are being assigned to a team.

QUOTE(Vinci777 @ Jun 8 2009, 09:46 PM) No choice. The boss is like dat. He will say take it or leave it. Basically u need to serve silverlake for 5 years to get better increment let say your per diem now is 90 after 5 years oni they upgrade it to 120... hooohohoho so yeah for fresh grad to earn experience in banking software try this company la but dont stay too long or u might end up staying there forever....Not really true. Its hard for fresh grad to grow into a better pay in silverlake unless ur really good. Those who get better pay are those who come in experienced or have serve silverlake many years. |

QUOTE(babyclam @ Oct 14 2009, 11:04 AM) i wanna ask...anyone applied for the programmer as posted on jobstreet? Boss strategy to take in cheap labour. By not giving out increment this year, I suppose he is expecting many young seniors to resign and replaced them with fresh grads. Every month there is few ppl leaving hence the 100 vacancies is needed. Afterall, Silverlake is always hiring and wont retrench it staffs because they knew you will automatically resign yourself unless you are patient.i am curious y they have 100 vacancies for programmer...can anyone tell me? Btw, u wanna apply? HR mentioned that there will be no promise of increment to its staffs but I do believe this is a good company to start off if u wanna see urself in a banking system industry because most banks have is using our module be it card system, retail banking, insurance, etc etc. |

They want cheap labour anytime but they do treasure experience staffs. I mean really treasure them esp those with banking knowledge.
What position r u applying for? Programmer? Business analyst? 2.6k is reasonable if u come in with experience. Only fresh grads get 2k. Go for the interview and see how it goes. Good luck to u as well. Btw, Monday and Friday is the day whereby Silverlakers take their replacement leave due to Depavalli fall on Sat. There wont be a lot of staffs around ^^ |

They wont be bonus as this is not Silverlake culture. Not even Cny angpau. Kudos to the 34 richest man in M'sia.
Rumors saying that increment would be on the Friday (pay day) but I do not put high hope on it. The benefit is the staff sit close to each other because they wont have their own cubicle. Its more like rows of development desk. Less politic dou. Well babyclam, congrats by passing the interview. If you dont mind telling, what team r u joining? My guess would be Credit Card? Akirax: You can try submit ur resume. I think they still taking inters and will always do so. This post has been edited by Vinci777: Oct 22 2009, 11:55 PM |

The company is decent if you are finding a place to start off - it is not as bad as you think, especially if you get overseas project. Anyway, give it a try unless you have a better offer. I know a lot of my friends have yet to leave or plan to leave.
Vinci, what team are you in? DD? |

Agree, Oversea is GOod Experience. where we get to travel and meet people at different places.
but outstation/oversea OR not outstation/oversea depend on luck. you might not be as lucky as those minority. might probably based in office waste months time in there. Cause we cant prefer any department or the team that we like. even if u are oversea... you will be going country like Vietnam, Philippine, or something similar like those place la...... By the way, .........local support 45 perdiem..... oversea work without visa 90 perdiem..... Normal OT rm15..... so, hmmmm Good luck la. READ CLEARLY before u really accept the OFFER. |

experience that would allow you to get better offer somewhere else even you base at local site, the experience you'll gain in banking and as400 is vast |

In addition to raigores OT info, normal OT until 8pm is rm15 while OT after 9pm is rm40. Bigg diff huh? Haha. Oversea or not it depends on the team ur in and luck. Some fresh grad are given chance to support overseas while some might stay in KL evendou after years of working. Overseas client including Indonesia, Thai, China and Japan as well. Its very expensive to change the whole system i assume and it wont be cost saving for banks.
If the AS400 can perform the task, there isnt any reason to change. The only possible changes i can think of is conversion from RPG to Java since there is limitations in RPG. But it will take years of R&D to convert the whole system without effecting the current dev. |

Cool. Began training so fast huh. SL is badly needing fresh grads this year.
Previously the training was conducted every 2-3 months break. Now it seems if one training ends, another start right away. I was curios about this because i seem to saw lots of ppl coming out from the reception. My guess it would be training. Anyway, enjoy the honeymoon while it last ^^ |

BA and BS dun have to attend rpg training. Only technical.
They r hiring fresh grads more aggresively because they need them for the new project. BA n BS may come slow until they found the right candidate i assume. Its because only Credit Card team uses BA if im not wrong. Good luck to u bro. |

So now, Enjoy ur honeymoon in SL ^^ !!!! Btw, ur surname is pang? I saw 2 look in the new recruit list. 17 ppl = same amount as ur training batch |

Internet? No. Only Gmail, Gtalk YM, MSN Bonus? No. Company trend. Increment? Depends really. Turn over is high. Why? Ppl come in to get experience, then leave after received a better offer be it from clients or other company. Travel? Depends on the team ur in. Luck plays apart. |

Just went for interview yesterday. I was first interviewed by Mr. Bunny Khoo, but I refused to enter his department/team (DWM) because I had bad experiences with databases. I told him I wanted to be in RPG team as two of my friends are currently under RPG. Then he was so kind to pass me to another interviewer - Ms. Elaine Tan (if I'm not mistaken). She told me she's under RPG/Java so it's okay for me.
For my situation, I worked with my father as an assistant manager and programmer for 1 year before I moved here to deliver my baby. I developed a simple POS system for the company using VB.NET. When I prepare my resume, I thought my working experience for programming is zero since I'm not a full-time programmer. But according to Ms. Tan, I'm considered to have 1 year experience on VB.NET. After the interview, I'm so worried that I'll be sent to overseas as I'm married and just gave birth to a baby boy on 8 December 2009. I can't leave my husband and newly born baby like that... Now I'm asking your opinion, I wrote RM 2.5k as my minimum expected salary. Do you think it's reasonable for me? (I was paid RM 3k previously) Will my results and awards received affect the salary given to me? If I wrote RM 2.5k, will they pay me higher? Thanks for answering. Well,
RPG is totally a new thing (or too old) compared to VB.net . If u were assigned to do RPG/backend, you'll have to attend a 1 month RPG training. If ur doing java, i think they have java team as well. Its more into R & D I guess. However, if u dont wanna go overseas, u can tell them. They seldom send some1 new to go oversea as well because there is lots of ppl waiting to go |

Vinci777,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, Ms. Tan told me there'll be one month training for RPG, but for Java, it's a no (of course). For me, RPG or Java is okay. Even VB.NET or ASP.NET also okay. But DWM, NO! Haha! It's sad to know that I'm considered as experienced so after 6 months probation, there is no increment / adjustment to my salary...Now I regret to write just RM 2.5k... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Latest update: I'm being offered to work in Silverlake starting 1 Feb 2010 and I'm being assigned to BDS (Java). Anyone can give brief description on this department? Thanks! I'll be another Silverlaker!! This post has been edited by reginabally: Jan 21 2010, 10:03 PM |

Im not sure about the exposure. Its a data center for 2 of our oversea clients. Development room have around 20ppl but the datacenter room shud be less den 10 including operators. There i think u would have data center experience of how to handle as400 admistration like hardware upgrade etc etc. My guess ^^ |

There are senior who will guide u there. I believe u will chat and surf web more than looking for solution if u get the opportunity to on9. Dats wat i do when i got the chance. I just wanna sum up about the salary information for people got posted overseas. After reading through this thread, if a person got posted overseas, pay rate is RM90 daily (not Dubai, Japan). Let's assume 30 working days (oversea) that means RM2,700 rite? Let's say the salary is RM2,000. that means if someone got posted overseas normally he/she would earn in the range of 4K (in the above case it's gonna be RM 4,700)? Just wanna have a clear picture on it.

Then you can claim for telephone call and transportation as well where applicable and airport taxi. Not to mention Air Asia meal allowance during flight even you didn't buy anything. Certain countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have extra allowance called Hardship allowance which give extra RM30 or RM50 per day as addition to your per diem. |

It sounds pretty cool ofcuz if a person is willing to work overseas. Accommodation and transportation is also provided when work in overseas rite ? Wow that seems like a go-go. Just one last question, per diem claim means whether we are working or not we can claim it as long as we are assigned to any overseas project and abroad rite ? I mean let's say if i dun work on Sunday, but still i can claim per diem for that day ? My apology if I been sounding noob. I'm a fresh grad and not very familiar with all those kind of stuff. So if your per diem claim is RM90 daily then comes to RM2700 per month. QUOTE(kyawzaw @ Jan 29 2010, 01:11 AM) Thanks. It helps me to get a clear picture. Yer, you can claim per diem on weekends as well whether you're working or not on that day.But you cannot claim per diem if you apply for annual leave while in oversea. Accomodation is provided but transport I'm not sure. Certain country they provide van and driver, others you may have to find your own transport. This is why Silverlake is a good stepping stone, especially if you're assigned to RPG team. My collegue just resign after 18 months with Silverlake, and got offer double the salary somewhere else. |

Accommodation overseas provided by Silverlake is always very good. U live in good apartments condos whenever ur being assigned no matter its Japan, Singapore, Indonesia or Thailand. Accommodation is the thing u dont have to worry about
No idea about exceptional claims. My guess its some special claims dat need management approval. |

Hurray! Today's my first day working at SSSB. Guess what? I only got to my own place around 3pm...
My superior is on leave, then the person who's in charge of my workstation also on leave...I don't have any username and password to login into my workstation, so my whole day here would be sitting and surfing the net using my own laptop... |

Well there is a danger of doing other things when internet is accessible but then, it is impossible to be independant without internet. I mean how are you going to trouble shoot certain java script errors if you dun have internet accessible. Of coz you can get books but still they are not enough. There is a danger of someone surfing the net accessibly but then if thaat person finishes his/her job then who cares. What are the qualities you look for when you hire a technical person. 1 of the qualities that i look for is that the person is able to troubleshoot issues by him/herself. If say you disable the internet and encourage people to seek their seniors everytime an issue comes out how are they going to learn to be independant? A good supervisor will ensure that a his suboridate will know the pain if he/she does not perform the task on time. I think internet is a must in every IT company and it is the responsibility of the supervisor as well as the subordinate to ensure that the task is being done on time.

Parking tickets for going to HQ (park at KPMG tower or One Utama) can be claimed. If you're staying at HQ more than a month, you may apply for season pass at One Utama (around RM 100 per month). The maximum amount can be claimed for parking tickets is RM 150 per month. Take note that petrol and toll charges are not claimable.
Another attractive benefits offered by Silverlake would be the medical benefits. One may claim up to RM 2600 per year for medical fees. If you got admitted into the hospital (*touchwood*), you can claim also part of the hospitalization fee. Briefing on those claims/benefits will be held on the first day of working. Good luck on your interview! |

I didn't get it (didn't receive any calls since ages). Richard, you wait until tomorrow see how. I guess the reason one can fail the interview are: i) Aptitude test get low marks. ii) Salary put too high. iii) Your academic result is lousy (CGPA Low) iii) The interviewer doesn't like you. For me is okayla, fail this company then try another lo. Good luck to all who wish to join Silverlake Added on March 8, 2010, 1:01 pm QUOTE(hitman_jay @ Mar 8 2010, 12:24 PM) Open jobstreet you can already see. hahaha..like that also lazy meh?http://siva-my.jobstreet.com/_ja/jobstreet...ID=993801&src=a » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

They asked me about my current basic salary, any other allowance, yearly bonus, company benefits and ohter for drafting my application proposal. Of coz, this point still doen't mean that i already get the offer.. Just feel impressed on the speed they process my application. Added on March 9, 2010, 1:51 pmAny silverlaker can answer me? Added on March 9, 2010, 1:53 pmAny silverlaker can answer me? 1. Basically you start with 15days per year. But for first year, it depends on which month you join. Let say if you join in February, you only entitled 14days of annual leave. 2. There's no OT claim but you can only claim for meal. And if working during weekend or public holiday, you can claim for meal and return mileage from your house to project site. If you go before 8pm, no meal claim. 3. There's no bond unless you go for RPG training. If you got bond, you need to pay one month salary to quit before bonding period. 4. LDP condition from Sri Petaling sucks especially when approach Sunway and WD bridge area. Near Tropicana area as well. 5. I believe that wouldn't be an issue. Anyway good luck to you. I just tender my resignation to further study abroad. Maybe I'll rejoin Silverlake in the future if the offer is good. |

QUOTE(mosfet83 @ Mar 10 2010, 10:59 AM) Hi there, Thanks mosfet83.. few question to u again..1. 3. Hi,1. can i know more about the meal allowance? 2. what is the paid for fresh graduate now? 3. anyone take bus from Kelana Jaya LRT station to One U ? 1. They give meal allowance if you work overtime. For normal working days, if you work until 8pm, you can claim RM15. If until 9pm than can claim RM40. During public holidays or weekend, if you work minimum 5 hours that you entitled for RM60 meal claim. 2. For fresh grad, I'm not quite sure how much they pay. But for last year, my friends got paid ranging from RM2.2K - 2.4K. And they all based at project site so got extra RM280 project site allowance. 3. I'm not sure about this, not a Kelana Jaya residence. Maybe someone else can answer? |

Luckily I'm based oversea project so don't have to go to office. For project based allowance, you need to be at least 10 days at project site. More than 10 days, RM280 for you, if less then no claim. RM150 allowance in HQ is for parking only, assuming you even get a spot. My teammate only got his after 1 year Not sure whether you can claim or not if you don't have parking. They requested parking receipt if not mistaken. |

@nszer
well you could get to silverlake office using public transport also what.. not all banks are near to LRT/monorail services. The problem with KL is not going to kl but GOING BACK FROM KL. I personally use only 25 minutes to reach KL from subang but it takes me a MINIMUM of 1 hour to get back home from KL. If you dont pay toll even worst, be prepared to get home in no less than 2 hours assuming you dont use the smart tunnel and get home by the federal highway. |

Heard that staffs joined between 2006 and 2009 as fresh grad will have adjustment.
Luckyfield: Environment in KL office can consider as an IT environment. No personal cubicle. Just many rows of PC where each rows contains around 10 pcs. We got around 100 rows for developers. Only Managements and accounts have rooms and cubicle. 10am and 3pm got kakak push trolley serving milo, teh and kopi aldou not in the best quality Good luck |

For tea u can use ur own mug or use the provided cup. Many design too choose. Lol
Yea limited internet + pentium 4 pc. Good enough for as400 and rpg. Travel depends on luck and team. Some team have many project overseas and some only local. But if u dont wanna go, pls inform them earlier so they can headcount or put u in other team etc. However, most fresh grad would like to go oversea due to the per diem. The advantage of staying in office is your are going to have a development environment and experience. You get to learn more cos ur bosses are around. On client site u'll be doing implementation and support most of the time like a bank staff. Another advantage for guys are you guys get to look at those leng luis from IBM and KPMG during lunch time where you could never find one in Silverlake |

QUOTE(Luckyfield @ Apr 14 2010, 10:30 PM) This is the first company that offers me. Well, maybe you might wan to wait a little longer and work in ur engineering field. I'm not sure u'll like to do programming because u took engineering course afterall. RPG is a niche market, its up to you whether you wanted to try. It does pays good when u got the experience but wat job doenst? Who knows u get better opportunity in engineering fields.I applied for a few other companies also, went for interviews and all, but no reply yet. Why yea? QUOTE(ck_boon @ Apr 14 2010, 11:47 PM) Silverlake is a software house. We have many projects thus most of the staff are programmers. We have marketing team, accounts etc but programmers are the one Silverlake needs all the time. |

Another question,
As i know, there have position like Programmer, A.Programmer, SA... and others in Silverlake.. So, how based on what criteria to define the promotion from Programmer to AP, AP to SA and others? Instead of based on Performance, i believe that also depends to the basic salary and how many working years right? |

Hiring for programmers is always ongoing.
RPG is a niche market. And in Silverlake, for sure you won't be doing just RPG. This post has been edited by pmmonkey: Apr 29 2010, 12:15 PM |

Unless banks / manufacturing companies decide to move out of RPG for good, there will always be a demand for RPG-related programmers. To be honest, I was told that RPG is a dying language back in college (7-8 years ago), so far - I am still waiting for it to die.

The demands for RPG still high regardless local market or foreign country.
Basically what you learn is not only the technologies (RPG/AS 400), the business knowledge you gained from the products are more valuable. |

It's not just about that the number of jobs. You also have to take into consideration that when a company is moving from RPG to newer systems, the integration/migration part still need RPG skills. That is where your knowledge comes in handy. It will be your selling point.
Plus, what fuzzylogic said is true, you also get the business knowledge for (mainly) banking sector which makes you valuable to that sector. This post has been edited by pmmonkey: Apr 29 2010, 05:17 PM |

Haha, the guys from S'lake I know barely know enough to keep their jobs / handlers running, let alone the business knowledge... Then again, it might differs from one to another.Basically what you learn is not only the technologies (RPG/AS 400), the business knowledge you gained from the products are more valuable. QUOTE(AntiViruz @ Apr 29 2010, 04:14 PM) I search AS400 job in job street and the result was so little ... most of them is contract base some more .... good luck... =.=" You won't find AS400 or RPG job ads on those sites too easily, most of these people know where they can go and apply for without relying on the general job hunter sites. Not forgetting, there are quite a few specialized head hunters that cater for AS400/RPG/CLE/etc programmers, and as said - those who gained sufficient business knowledge can also move on to positions within banks directly. Banks won't really need to put ads for these people in most cases thus making it scarce on sites like JobStreet/DB.This post has been edited by ik3da: Apr 29 2010, 05:47 PM |

Erm..may I know that,If I were stationed overseas,So if your per diem claim is RM90 daily then comes to RM2700 per month. Then you can claim for telephone call and transportation as well where applicable and airport taxi. Not to mention Air Asia meal allowance during flight even you didn't buy anything. Certain countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have extra allowance called Hardship allowance which give extra RM30 or RM50 per day as addition to your per diem. how many people will be staying in an apartment or Condo? silverlake is a 5days a week from9-5.30 parking at 1u is cheaper and easier but can claim. 1yrs bond is only applicable if u receive the RPG training. btw, im also a newbie in silverlake. with the ocbc project in menara ocbc. |

I hope this gives u some thoughts... My comments are, it is a good stepping stone to learn...I was there from 2002 to 2003 (slightly above 1 year)...
However , management is very Chinaman...so if youre talking about increment, it may come or may not come...last time was like 2 years once.... Yes, u will have the opportunity to travel or based in overseas location like vietnam, thailand...china...but its boring...no doubt u earn a bit more.. Anyways..all i can say its...its a "Chinaman mentality" company Hope it helps They like to recruit fresh grads..then again when u first graduated..any jobs with RM2k or above..u will grab it already... Disclaimer : I did not mention the company name. I m just sharing my thoughts based on my experience. |

Silverlake is doing projects for customers.
The sooner the project is over, the better for the company. - work long hours to finish it up earlier Customer will keep add/change things, and most of the time, these changes will become the additional work. - work long hours to finish it up earlier if you work overseas, most of the time you gonna work on weekend, sometime on sunday. - work long hours to finish it up earlier actually, nowaday all companies are like these. |
