Just went for interview yesterday. I was first interviewed by Mr. Bunny Khoo, but I refused to enter his department/team (DWM) because I had bad experiences with databases. I told him I wanted to be in RPG team as two of my friends are currently under RPG. Then he was so kind to pass me to another interviewer - Ms. Elaine Tan (if I'm not mistaken). She told me she's under RPG/Java so it's okay for me.

For my situation, I worked with my father as an assistant manager and programmer for 1 year before I moved here to deliver my baby. I developed a simple POS system for the company using VB.NET. When I prepare my resume, I thought my working experience for programming is zero since I'm not a full-time programmer. But according to Ms. Tan, I'm considered to have 1 year experience on VB.NET.

After the interview, I'm so worried that I'll be sent to overseas as I'm married and just gave birth to a baby boy on 8 December 2009. I can't leave my husband and newly born baby like that...

Now I'm asking your opinion, I wrote RM 2.5k as my minimum expected salary. Do you think it's reasonable for me? (I was paid RM 3k previously) Will my results and awards received affect the salary given to me? If I wrote RM 2.5k, will they pay me higher?

Thanks for answering.

Vinci777,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Ms. Tan told me there'll be one month training for RPG, but for Java, it's a no (of course). For me, RPG or Java is okay. Even VB.NET or ASP.NET also okay. But DWM, NO! Haha!

It's sad to know that I'm considered as experienced so after 6 months probation, there is no increment / adjustment to my salary...Now I regret to write just RM 2.5k...

Latest update:

I'm being offered to work in Silverlake starting 1 Feb 2010 and I'm being assigned to BDS (Java). Anyone can give brief description on this department? Thanks!

I'll be another Silverlaker!! rclxms.gif

i am wondering how do  programmers here  solve your code problems if internet is blocked since we can do our research on internet if there are any problems...got tons of solutions out there from internet...... shakehead.gif

Yeah! Totally agree. I always search from the internet for solution when I encounter problems. So if internet is blocked, who should we refer to if we have coding problems? Our senior or team leader??

Wonder if I can bring my own laptop with broadband services...

Haha! It's true. Sometimes I tend to spend time on useless stuff (e.g. Mafia War @ Facebook) even my intention to get online is to do research...

Hurray! Today's my first day working at SSSB. Guess what? I only got to my own place around 3pm...

My superior is on leave, then the person who's in charge of my workstation also on leave...I don't have any username and password to login into my workstation, so my whole day here would be sitting and surfing the net using my own laptop...

do they only hire people with programming knowledge/experience?

i read from the ad that training will be fully provided.

thx.

If not mistaken, initial one month training will only be provided to those who'll be using RPG language. Then, you need to sign a contract of one year prior to the training.

Parking tickets for going to HQ (park at KPMG tower or One Utama) can be claimed. If you're staying at HQ more than a month, you may apply for season pass at One Utama (around RM 100 per month). The maximum amount can be claimed for parking tickets is RM 150 per month. Take note that petrol and toll charges are not claimable.

Another attractive benefits offered by Silverlake would be the medical benefits. One may claim up to RM 2600 per year for medical fees. If you got admitted into the hospital (*touchwood*), you can claim also part of the hospitalization fee.

Briefing on those claims/benefits will be held on the first day of working.

Good luck on your interview!
