this company has many (financial) projects

depend on which team and who you joined.
2 main characters will affect your working experience, your proj mgr, and your senior/team lead

btw, you don't forever stick to 1 fixed team. expect to be change and move around, though most proj mgr will tends to retain their team, especially if you are good.

their core product is RPG, then Cobol
if you looking for tech learning, not much you will find in this system
but if you not for tech pursue, you can learn few core banking products.
but its likely once you assigned to a specific product team, you will likely stick to it long term.

the Java and other new pc tech are in their subcompanies like Axis and other.

Wow..You seems like quite understand about silverlake.
I think you are one of the silverlaker right?  brows.gif

Well..What you meant by specific product team?
What is the team under specific product team?

I don't and never worked for Silverlake, though I'm awared about it and worked in similar type of company b4.

Banking sys is lot; Credit Card, ATM, Cheque Processing, Loan, .....

You basically will be assigned to 1 of this team developing specifc product (ATM, Loan, etc)
Sometime you may or may not be reassign to other product team, at most only temporary to help other team for delivery
But you can always request to change team, just need to convince your PM and the other team PM, but practically PM don't exercise relocate team member.

today got agent calling and ask me to try again and din't know i'v been offered before .....
i tot they normally will post their vacancy on jobstreet .. how come this is agency callin ... guess silverlake has changed their hiring process ?

interview is a tiring process, though some ppl enjoy it

ppl in silverlake are focusing doing the actual product, with all the meeting and dateline, they hardly wanna spend time with interview, espcially nowday you can get 1k applicant email send in per week/day, that's going to overload you

even trying to shortlist applicant by looking at the picture over 1k mail is no fun

they (or any company) got the $, they get the service from the prof service provider.

Silverlake is doing projects for customers.

The sooner the project is over, the better for the company.
- work long hours to finish it up earlier

Customer will keep add/change things, and most of the time, these changes will become the additional work.
- work long hours to finish it up earlier

if you work overseas, most of the time you gonna work on weekend, sometime on sunday.
- work long hours to finish it up earlier

actually, nowaday all companies are like these.

My 2 cents on silverlake
I'm working on a project in a bank which involves silverlake as well. My observation is if you join silverlake, you better join the technical side. The business consultants dont do much (in fact I dont know what they do since they are not even present in meetings. Technical team talks directly to the client instead of business consultants) Learning curve in the technical team will be more challenging but hey, no pain no gain. True fact

then your 2 cents is very subjective.
ppl want easy life, non-tech sounds the better choice.

Depends on how quick u wanna get ur job done. We dont force you to work late if u can get your job done. Just dont let ppl clean up ur mess dats all biggrin.gif

Flexible or not it depends on ur commitment to finish the work. Balance it and it will be fine.

you quickly finished your task, then you get new one as well.
if you intend to perform, that's good.

and there's really no "balance" in project work.

its depend on how much/many your pm agreed to the customer how many "new things" will be rollout
new things mean its not in the planning, something add-in later or last minute.

welcome to project team, its more or less the same every workspace/companies.

because practically all companies need robot/labor force.

those talk-cock job vacancies are far fewer. you only need 1 mouth, but 20 hands to do a project.

generally you can try start as robot, then wait for opportunity to get the talker pos.
