A 41-megapixel camera on a phone. You’d assume that was a typo if Nokia hadn’t already unveiled the 41-megapixel 808 Pureview last year, a technological tour-de-force that escaped mainstream appeal thanks largely to its orphaned Symbian operating system. With the Lumia 1020, Nokia has brought the innovative downsampling approach it debuted in the 808’s camera to a Windows Phone with a more relevant OS.

While zoom lenses that span from wide-angle to telescopic have been the norm on dedicated digicams for years, zoom optics remain impractical for thin phones (they exist only on the occasional camera-with-a-phone-in-it like Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Zoom). The “digital zoom” feature on most phones is generally a disappointing alternative.

Nokia changed that with the 808’s downsampling zoom, and the 1020 combines that technology with the optical image stabilization introduced in Nokia’s Lumia 920 that allows significantly better image quality in low light. On paper, that hardware combination makes the 1020 stand out impressively in a field in which incremental resolution bumps and often-gimmicky software features have been the name of the game. But do these great ideas translate into a great photographic experience? We put the Lumia 1020 through its picture-making paces to find out how its impressive imaging technology works in the real world.

To be honest, I kinda doubt its battery life. As you all know, battery life on specs sheet is always boasted, real life battery life is usually about 80% - 85% of specs sheet.
So, I guess your safe bet will be wearing 2 WATCHES on your wrist everyday in case your Galaxy Gear battery is flat before end of the day.

But then, many people still think that Galaxy Gear is more useful than camera grip, so... just let them enjoy their galaxy Gear then.
I rather have Pebble as smart watch... BUT it doesn't support Windows Phone. So another weakness of Windows Phone, no other accessories partner aside Nokia's partner.

Well, I think instead of other 3rd party releasing a smartwatch, Nokia itself releasing a smartwatch of its own has even higher chances. Of course I meant like those partners but with Nokia own branding such as their bluetooth, JBL speakers, Purity Pro etc.

Exactly. If that 25 hours is for continuous usage, then it still can works as a watch at least, BUT if this 25 hours is only standy hours, god can only hope how many ACTUAL hours that this Smart Gear can last to be functional as a watch.
It is quite embarrassed for me if someone asks me for time and I have to tell him that my watch battery just flat cos it is too smart

yea be patient and wait..see any interesting update with the 1020 in term of firmware. what i worry is that they might left out the 920 for the next or "next next" big update just to force u to get 1020 or 920>.

Agreed. It is still not worthy to get L1020 if already have L920 now.
However for those who are upgrading from 52X series or other phones, this price is quite okay to be honest. The phone itself is RM 2200.00 if you exclude the camera grip so i think it is still price reasonably at least.
Eventually they will sell without the camera grip so expect price to drop end of October and mid November.
I will wait till Xmas and see also.

I was actually think you were sharing Matt Permanently method to L920. It is alright.

I was amazed by the honest review of the second link Blogger regarding his love for his Yellow L920. He clearly state that he wasn't sure exactly why he love his L920 but it could be its design - Pure, Minimalist. He continue using it everyday though he received questionable email from commenters, questioning him that Android and Apple is way superior than WP.

His persistence and review brought me to share my thought about my Perceived Value of L1020 with RRP2,499 - an outrageous priced known Smartphone.

I felt the RRP is justified, especially those with money and/or have deep thought about Industrial Design.
Lumia 1020 is not just any phone, smartphone or camera phone. It is the phone that has thoroughly been designed with deep touch of Minimalist Flat, Pure at the same time, functional and practical for daily happening. Combined with its Slim Body and compliment with Matt Texture, the final look simply breathtaking. No phone in todays could compete, even Apple 'the' Designful and Innovative Corporation that Apple continue to brag about. Their (Apple) iOS is switching to flat, while phone pretty much continue its existence layout.

Anyway, just my thought.

The cam grip has an external battery on it. if it wasn't bundled together, would still have bought the grip for its battery and also to stabilize the hand while taking shots.

Yes, the trend of smartphone complimentary hardware going to our fashionable wearings is unavoidable.
Still I won't bet on Galaxy Gear first gen, rather wait for their 2nd Gen which usually comes quite fast probably in 6 months time. Cos Samsung's pattern is always release a "test-water" product as their first gen and usually have some sort of weakness, then only release a refined product (or final) of first gen. Much like their Note and Galaxy S series. First S and Note are just "meh" product, while their second gen just boom the market.

Just got my Yellow Camera Grip, so I'm selling off the black one for any interested party here. Of course, packaging is gone for that black Grip, but it'll come with the strap that comes with the packaging.

USD737 from Negri Electronics 3 weeks back from LA. Price was shortly revised it to USD697, and the USD40 was refunded back to my CC from them. The black camera grip was from AT&T store in Inglewood.

Same here, too pricy now. Nokia is known from drop price fast, judge from previous Lumia.

If you use a lot of Google service, I suggest you not to jump ship. I myself use a lot of Google Current and Youtube.

i know, the price is force on us with the extra accessories, which some of us do not need at present. i rather wait for 3rd party accessories, see if they can come out even more creative than Nokia..but for me iphone is still overprice, with no revolutionary improvement and lack of features that every h/p should have.

Totally agreed. Lumia is good but it is not suits me well. Sold Galaxy S4 and bought 925. Used it for 2 days and sold it. Buy S4 again.

No matter poisoning a review is, it's more important to try it yourself first.

Just like the Nokia 808 PureView, it can produce good image quality, no other smartphones camera even come close to it. BUT, it's not as easy and nice to use as other smartphone cameras.
Example: The focusing is poor, tends to prefer slow shutter speed in auto mode (resulting in blur shots if you take action/movement).
The Lumia 1020 PureView comes with OIS so it may have higher tendency to use slower shutter speed which is not ideal if you're shooting moving subjects.
Quality is one thing, usability is another.

Just a reminder for those who's too excited to get one without first trying it, in case later, they feel frustrated especially after paying so much. Remember to try and test it first.

I'm from Sarawak too.
I won't expect any other retailer beside Storekini and selected Nokia Store (none at Sarawak) to have stock until mid October, perhaps.

I have never bought at Storekini before, but I believe Storekini is reliable, especially it was endorsed by Nokia Malaysia to cater Pre-Order of Lumia 1020 for whole Malaysia.
