Guess not a lot of people getting this phone compared to 920.
I was hoping to upgrade if the price was 2k but since it's 2.5k, I think i'll wait for a price drop.
I don't really care about sell value as I keep all phones anyway, so no point there.

The best part about this phone is the 41 megapixel which is their unique selling proposition.
No such phones has this much megapixel and not even my 5D Mark 2 which is 8k, a dslr without lens, could beat the amount of pixels it has at a nice price.
A compact size 'dslr' is really nice and without a doubt very awesome.

Nice Price? You could get the Nokia 808 PureView which has slightly larger sensor and similar 41MP (and better performance due to dedicated image processor) at RM1899 launch price. Sometime earlier this year, there was deals for RM999.

Nonetheless, it could never compare with a DSLR even if you shoot at lowest ISO settings under bright daylight (if you actually check the details).
*
No thanks. Does it have WP8? Nope.
Good to point out but I already have one.

That is not the real way to compare anyway, I know somone would shoot me down with my statement the biggest different is the bigger sensor and ISO is really not the main factor for me. Details...hah. Still about the sensor dude

Sorry about that, not trying to shoot you. It's a forum, just sharing information or explain, not trying to shoot or any of that sort. If I did express in such way, then I'm sorry about that. Just your reply gives me the impression that you didn't know that there was another 41MP smartphone available before L1020, and regarding the DSLR comparison, it's just a general explanation as many people may think it's as good as DSLR. You're not average DSLR user, so, my bad.

Cheers.
*
It's cool dude. cool2.gif
Good to point out to those who don't know.
I myself find it quite expensive and I'm waiting for a price drop to get it.
Also it might be impossible for me to get it since more new phones is coming out soon. tongue.gif

When you have a 5D, you shouldn't be a normal DSLR user nod.gif

So you getting it? By any chace brows.gif

The amount of people bashing WP is extraordinary in this thread.
Just because it has a different way of interface and has a learning curve does not mean it has to have the same experience as Android and iOS.
It is suppose to have a different experience and by far a very unique one compared to iOS and Android.
The market share for WP is increasing and the ecosystem for it is getting better.
A lot of popular apps is already on it and if there isn't one there is already a 3rd party doing one for it like Instagram.
I'm loving WP and iOS, but not really into Android, even with Jelly Bean it still sucks and the OS get bloated in a long run.
It's all down to preference and beats me if you like whatever OS lol!
It's all down to you in the end and people's perception and opinion hasn't effect me on choosing what I like.

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 24 2013, 03:48 PM)
Yea, I notice you mentioned 5D, I guess I wasn't thinking that time, my bad, hehe  tongue.gif

Yes, planning to get it, but not at this price. Waiting to replace the 808 PureView, as you said, WP8. Symbian is OK for normal phone usage. WP8 would offer much better usage experience, plus the social network integration is great in WP, and to top it off the L1020 comes with OIS, better or more advance controls/modes, plus nice camera grip.

Waiting for price to drop, maybe year end of new year. But was considering a look for a 64GB unit since there is lack of micro-SD slot.
*
My thoughts exactly. I am waiting for a price drop as well.
It disappoints me that iPhone is still the same phone since iP4 and that Android only has specs bump here and there.

Since everyone likes Samsung and iPhone that much, I like being a bit unique with my Nokia tongue.gif

We don't expect a same experience with Android or iOS. But with tons of limitations, how long we are going to wait? Is it 5 years? Not a chance.

Yes I admit the smoothness of the UI as I used to use Lumia 925. My opinion is WP should be as perfect as Android and iOS
*
I suits me just fine. I takes time and if you don't give time to get used to it then hard la like that.
Takes me quite a while and I am just fine with it and almost a year now with it.

Selling my 920 to a friend soon.
Planning to survey, 1020 tomorrow.

How much does the wireless charging cover cost? sad.gif
Why isn't the wireless thing built in. So sad.

Just got myself a Lumia 1020 today. Upgraded from 920.
Definitely satisfied with the camera plus the other best thing about this new one is that it's lighter.
Yellow Matte finish is really nice since it's not that slippery like the Gloss Yellow 920.
Faster, very noticible. 2GB ram is nice.

Now to test some shoots.

Selling to a friend soon.
Just wondering if I could transfer some stuff from my old phone.
Guess I can't, to bad no backup thing like iPhone/iTunes. sweat.gif

QUOTE(hox @ Oct 7 2013, 12:50 AM)
Ya, the first thing that surprised me was the weight as I thought with the bigger sensor it will be definitely be heavier than the already heavy 920, so it was a pleasant surprise...and I love the N9-like matte design way more.

Btw, I thought the stills are good until I tested the video today with my friends...wow, beat all their latest smartphones by a wide margin in term of smoothness and stability..the OIS is really a big help together with the huge sensor, it looks almost buttery close to those taken with my RX100 for daylight shots...and the other 2 killer features - lossless zoom and manual video focus..can do all kinds of those creative shots...weirdly the Note 3's 4K videos actually look worst than 1080p on 1020 (framerate drops sometimes, and bitrate is weirdly low for 4k)  hmm.gif
*
Very nice info there bro.
No one has yet beaten my phone camera the 920 and now that i've upgraded to 1020 well.....Winner tongue.gif
Well the video has always been one of the best features besides the still images.
Even the old 920 was great, so the 1020 is gonna be better rclxms.gif
Samsung is a joke, I have no idea why people buy it doh.gif
4K is the future but not now anyway, too expensive and too storage hungry.
Still prefer Nokia(after the jump from iPhone 4), after thinking and researching, all those new phones doesn't even come close to what I want.

Bro, if I were to get a WP8 right now, which one would you recommend between 920 and 925 since they are in same price category. Based on your experience and knowledge la.
*
920 has IPS LCD while 925 has AMOLED.
Same camera on both but 925 the f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens has had a sixth glass element added.
Biggest turn-off about 925 is that it does not have a wireless charging function built in need to buy wireless charging cover which 920 have. I like the wireless charging as it is more handy and stylish to charge.
925 is a bit thinner and lighter as well. Not much of a real difference in terms of hardware/software just the appearance with an aluminium body.

I would go for 920 though with wireless charging built in because I find it really handy for me.
But 925 AMOLED display might be nice if you compare it with IPS LCD on 920.
All comes down to you in the end.

coming from a samsung and an apple user i have to reject your notion that samsung is a joke

samsung progresses way quicker than anybody else. not to diss but WP has not taken off with less than 1/10 the market share of android. the only feather in the hat for the 1020 is the camera. no other additional features come close to any of the flagships by other manufacturers be it HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi, Meizu, LG, Nexus... well, the list goes on. there's only 1 singular good point in a sea of horribles.
i agree. camera tech + camera UI, nokia hit the sweet spot there with amazing usability + various manual controls.
4K recording a gimmick? that's why nokia phones don't have Full HD screens? another gimmick? and the horrible battery life is a feature?

come on... give credit when its due, and don't be a blind follower. be critical and you'll love your device more.
*
Go away troll, it's a joke because everything is plastic plus they will never become Apple, which is what they have been trying to achieve. It is thanks to those who don't know much about stuff that they buy Samsung, which contributes a lot to the sales. Progress is quicker more like thanks to Android and Google. Specs doesn't really matter it is underused and you don't even need those specs to run a phone. Even with those much power Samsung still lags and software gets bloated in a long run. What a joke, laggy and bloated, not only Samsung but pretty much other Androids phone as well, I use Android too but found nothing special on it. The sea of horrible my farking arse it's growing by number and sales has been going up. Who likes the same thing with spec bumps, I don't. 4K is a big gimmick, framedrop sucks and they don't even know how to optimize it well. Please buy me a cheap monitor or TV for me to watch things in 4k? Pretty pointless for now. Horrible battery was a stupid excuse when all the Nokia phones can last more than a day and longer than S4 in the latest Amber update.

Trolls are trolls but your points are not valid in my world. It has always been either Apple or Nokia which bring a lot of good stuff, with great ideas and a new life to technology, not Samsung who only knows to copy. Just look at your so called cool smartwatch what a joke it is because Samsung weren't able to copy anyone. An iPhone on dual core could beat a quad core in benchmark and that just shows how poorly optimize things is. WP is unique and very well optimized, no lag, smooth and doesn't bloat. Low specs doesn't matter when you know how to optimized it well and use all the spec it has unlike your preferred choice. I can't imagine how many Android fans has been begging to see Nokia on Android, Nokia is that good.In the end it comes down to you and to each his own. Go to your Samsung thread and troll Nokia there.

Yea, I used that zoom after shooting for example like Gundam model, I wanna to zoom in and crop the head part.
The details of the head has loss and become blur and the sharpness of those edge become crappy...
*
Should focus properly, when focusing the focus lighting might help to get an even sharper image.
Also focus manually to get the part you want sharper, just like a DSLR smile.gif

Lol ... maybe i should grab a book of "How to shoot good photo using DSLR" first...

Did you guys try to trial and error when shooting those good photo?

Btw, normally u guys use Flickr to store photo? Is it a good app ?
*
Haha that would be a good start, just learning the basics would be good.
I go to photography class hehe, so I do know this stuff more.

Yeah kinda normal, even when I shoot on my DSLR I will take multiple shoots on different settings to get the best outcome.

Flickr would be the best choice as Flickr stores and displays your images at full resolution, unlike other places for example Facebook which compress the images.

But man, using 1020 here in my area makes me feel awkward.
In my office (24 ppl in my department), Android user already took 71% , IOS 25% and I'm the only one with 4%, haha ..

Ppl will look at me cause I'm using the camera grip as my daily usage.
*
It's very good imo. Feels unique and not a lot of people have it.
I would go for unique everyday and I don't think it's that awkward really.
In my campus also out of 75+ students in my course only me and 1 other friend use Windows Phone.
I also like that whenever we are gonna take a group photo people will prefer my 920 than my other friend's phone tongue.gif

I just found out myself yesterday that 1020 was suppose to be called 909, after the 808 Pureview I guess.
Was clicking the feedback in settings and Nokia asked whether you are satisfied with your new phone 909 lol!

I've been using it from the launch of the app, and I have no battery problem at all.
Maybe a simple reinstall would fix the problem, but I can assure you it's not a problem for me on 920 and 1020.

Yeap. If you go to ... not sure is "About Phone" or "Extra + Info" you can see that it's showing Lumia 909
