Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone ever made. It's one of the best smartphones ever made, and with a couple of minor tweaks (particularly to the camera), it could be the best smartphone ever produced.
Still, there's really not much to knock here. The hardware is elegant and smartly designed. The software is beautiful and useful. Google has cleaned up a lot of the bad, and replaced it with a serious amount of good. It's faster, smarter, and a lot more friendly than any of its predecessors. Ice Cream Sandwich easily gives iOS and Windows Phone a run for their money, and in many ways, it's a superior operating system than either of them. If there's a bone to pick, perhaps it's with the size, which could be off-putting to some, or the fact that right now the only carrier you can definitely get the phone on in the US will be Verizon. But those are minor blips on the radar, not show stoppers.
Since day one, I've been waiting for an Android device that lived up to the promise of such a powerful OS. I think I can stop waiting now. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is so important again because it's the only time Google gets to dictate everything - the hardware, the software, and update timing. There's also the element of freedom, with unlockable hardware out of the box. I find myself wishing that Google had begun its adventure sticking it to the carriers with pentaband WCDMA support like this phone finally has, as that would've been much more successful than the practice of releasing a few different Nexus variants with different bands.
As far as Ice Cream Sandwich is concerned, it really is Android perfected. Everything is smoother, faster and nearly all of our issues with the OS have been addressed. ICS brings Android into 2012 and gives Google a great platform to begin to introduce new features going forward. Android is now very close to UI performance parity with iOS, which eliminates a major tradeoff you had to make in the past. If you were hoping for ICS to be iOS with a Google logo on it, you'll be sorely disappointed. However if you're a fan of Android and just wished it were smoother and more polished, Ice Cream Sandwich is what you've been waiting for. Full review here.

Make no mistake, this is the best Android phone around today. It’s impossible to divorce Samsung’s hardware from the Ice Cream Sandwich experience, for the moment at least. That may change as more manufactures offer Android 4.0 phones, but for now it’s tough to think of going back to a Gingerbread or earlier device. ICS’ finessed software works beautifully with Samsung’s hardware and – with the exception of the camera, perhaps, which can be a minor blot on the Galaxy Nexus’ score sheet – the sum of the two parts is massively compelling. While there were some hardware complaints, and even though Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t the most intuitive or user friendly operating system, it’s absolutely one of the most powerful. Android 4.0 is coupled with the best smartphone Samsung has ever produced and easily leapfrogs any other competitor’s device.
Unfortunately in the Android world, this hardly lasts a long time, and as we have started to see in various leaks, there’s going to be some serious competition for the best Android smartphone in the world over the next few months. For now, though, this marriage of hardware and software, under Google and Samsung’s direction, is an absolute winner. Full review here.

Personally, I’ve already been taken in by the Galaxy Nexus’s charms, and have been thoroughly spoiled in the process. It’s the most impressive smartphone I’ve ever used, and after just a few days, older versions of Android already feel ... well, old. Many other phones will get a taste of Android 4.0 in early 2012, but make no mistake, the Galaxy Nexus is the device that ICS was meant to be used on. The sheer speed of the hardware and software, combined with the slickness and beauty of the new stock Android UI makes the device a joy to use. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android device ever because it’s the best all-round Android phone. Not only is the design almost flawless but the screen is sharp, the camera capable and the software a huge leap forward. Considering it will have a software lead of at least three to four months on any new device being released with ICS, for many people it is reason enough to upgrade. Ice Cream Sandwich is the biggest leap in smartphone operating systems since perhaps iOS 2 to iOS 3 (or maybe iOS 4 to iOS 5, we can’t decide) but it fundamentally alters the way Android users interact with their phones. Beyond those gimmicks that don’t work as well in the real world as they do on television commercials, Ice Cream Sandwich’s main claim to fame is that it’s a more-polished version of Android — it’s easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing than any of its predecessors. Bravo, Google — I’m looking forward to further refinements of Android, and if this leap forward is any indication, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system has even brighter days ahead.
Couple that with this gorgeous and subtly curved handset, and you have yourself a winner. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is by far the best Android phone I’ve seen yet. Full review here.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone I've ever touched before. This is easy to say for a couple of reasons. Up until the Galaxy Nexus, my hands-down favorite phone was the Galaxy S II (specifically the Sprint and international versions) and the Galaxy Nexus is rather similar when it comes to in-hand feel and build quality. That said, the Galaxy Nexus goes above and beyond with a modern and sexy design that makes you feel like you're holding the future in your hand. Full review here.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the most exciting Android device I’ve had an opportunity to review. Not only does it feature an exceptional design by Samsung and an impressive list of specs, but it’s also the first device to utilize the newest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0.
It is, without a doubt, the best Android smartphone of the year.

AP Set?

If you're contemplating on buying AP set, jpaq has some advice for you to consider.
QUOTE(jpaq @ Mar 14 2012, 04:38 PM)
It's all a matter of luck, bro. Many people who have bought an AP unit has had no problems whatsoever. However, there are some who have experienced faulty units before as well. To be clear, I myself rather not buy an AP unit.
But do ask the seller about his one-to-one exchange policy. If he says if there is any problem within 7 days, and a one-to-one exchange is allowed within that period, then it is pretty fair for an AP unit. But then, ask him further, if the 2nd unit is also found to be faulty, then what would be his policy. Then consider what he tells you. If you find it acceptable, go ahead and buy it and have fun. Oh, and do get the name of the guy who attends to you, for future reference.
However, do be meticulous with your checking of the unit. When at the shop, check as many things on the phone as you can, at the bare minimum, check for any scratches, dents, cracks and chips. Check for any colour peeling or dis-colouration of every physical part of the phone that you can see, including the logos. Also check the battery cover for any breakage in the clips. Another phone shop seller once told me that he got in a unit from his supplier where one or more of the battery cover clip(s) was/were broken.
Do switch the phone on and inspect with your naked eye for any abnormality in the display. Also see whether the display responds ok with your touches. Then slip in your SIM card and make a few calls. Check for any abnormality in the sound coming out from the earpiece. I have had an earpiece problem before. Not common, but it happened to me. Then ask whomever you are calling whether you sound clear to them or not. Then ask that person to call you back to check again.
After all that, when you get home, do play the heck out of your phone. Go google for apps which let your check for any defects in the display, like dead pixels, etc. Plug in a set of earphones (your fav or the in-box ones) and test. Play some songs through the earphones as well as through the speaker. Listen for any crackling sounds or other abnormality. Make calls, send SMSes, emails, etc. Plug it into your computer to see whether everything is working as it should be. Use the phone fully and even stress the phone if you can (but I don't mean physically!!!).
If everything works out ok, great! If not, go back immediately to the seller. Be firm (but not rude) with the seller when conveying to him your problem(s). If he had promised a one-to-one exchange earlier and you are within the time given, insist on that. I have to add that many sellers would rather not have to do a one-to-one exchange if they can help it. It means that they would have one less phone to sell. But insist on it if he has given you his word. And if he tells you that there is currently no stock to exchange for you at the moment, insist that a new unit should be given to you no longer than in 2 weeks time. Otherwise, ask for your hard earned money back and get the phone from somewhere else.
Honestly, I have not dealt with this directd ever before. From the forums, some say he is ok but could be perceived as a little stuck up. Ignore all this when your are dealing with him. Just be professional and expect professionalism from him as well. Keep it strictly business.
All the best.

5MP S5K4E1G is the camera sensor that is used in the Galaxy Nexus
QUOTE
The S5K4E1G is a highly integrated QSXGA camera chip which includes CMOS image sensor (CIS) and CCP2- compliant image data interface. It is fabricated by SAMSUNG 90nm CMOS image sensor process developed for imaging application to realize high-efficiency and low-power photo sensor. The sensor consists of 2608 x 1960 effective pixels which meet with 1/4 inch optical format. The CIS has on-chip 12-bit ADC arrays to digitize the pixel output and also on-chip Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) to reduce Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) drastically. The image data interface performs data formatting, image compression, Image scaling and serial transmission using Sub-LVDS. The host controller is able to access and control this device via CCI bus. The S5K4E1G is suitable for low power camera module with 2.8V/1.8V power supply.

I get the feeling I could repeat this a hundred times and people wouldn't listen, but here goes:
The number of megapixels on your camera phone does not matter.
Please, read that again. And again.
The limiting factor in your camera phone is the physical size of the sensor and the lens. You aren't going to resolve much good detail past 5 megapixels, AND you will start contributing heavily to noise by shrinking the photosites.
The new iPhone 4S camera is great, but it is not great because it is 8 megapixels. It is great because it's a high quality sensor and a nice lens. It is great in spite of it being 8 megapixels.
I have printed poster-size with a Nikon D2h. That was a 4 megapixels camera. Those were 4 very high quality megapixels with the right glass on the camera. Having more, lower quality pixels is not the right way to approach cameras. From binary vision at Android Forums
alternatively, if you seek to get better photo with the Galaxy Nexus, you could consider getting extended lens option from Photojojo

Insufficient storage space?

Why does this phone not include a Micro SD slot?
QUOTE
There are many reasons floating around, but the reason I’ve seen by at least a few Googlers is that if an app utilizes an SD card’s storage in some way (say, storing a user’s data) and then the user removes the card, that app has to be programmed to handle the card’s disappearance. It’s easier for developers to code apps that keep everything in the internal storage (e.g. the app’s folder in /data/data) than have to handle the presence/absence of external media.
Without an SD card, how can I flash ROMs, back up my data between wipes, etc?
QUOTE
The internal media storage space (for example, the ~13GB left over in the UK model) IS subject to being wiped when user data is wiped (since it is mounted as /data/media). However, custom recoveries have been made for other devices that skip wiping this directory, so once CWM or another recovery for the GN comes out with that feature, you won't need to back-up your media folder before wiping.

Its a SGX540, the same one in the Nexus S, but significantly higher clocked, running at 384mhz.
QUOTE
Iit's only the GPU that isn't as fast (the CPU is as fast as anything on the market right now, and faster than the iPhone). This will be the third fastest GPU on the market, behind the PowerVR SGX543 of the iPhone, and the Mali-400 of the Samsung Galaxy S2. For most tasks, of course, there will be tons of horsepower available for things like hardware acceleration of the OS, basic processing tasks, etc. These are not generally a challenge to most GPUs. The real question is, how will it handle games or apps like Google Earth or other 3D-intensive apps?
Think about this: when game developers release a game for the PC, do they optimize it so that it will only run on the brand new, top-of-the-line, $600 graphics card? Of course not. They wouldn't sell many copies, would they? Expect the same here. The PowerVR SGX540 of the Nexus is a potent GPU, one of the fastest on the market. Not being the fastest shouldn't be a concern. From Android Forums
Also, if you didn't notice already, games that are actually fun don't rely on polygon counts to sell the game, ie. cut the rope, plant vs zombie, coin drop, etc etc. If the iPhone 4 with SGX535, a lower end GPU than Nexus S, can have great game titles, I don't see how the G Nexus can't.
Food for thought, if the G Nexus can already play 95% of the games in the market (the other 5% being Tegra3 exclusives ), what significance does it make that the GPU scored lower in benchmarks?

Only had a brief listen on mine using some Yuin PK2s that I have.
I've come from an Xperia Arc, and before that I did have a SGS2 for a while.
I've not had enough time to make a definitive view but at this stage, the Nexus sounds more open than the Arc (which had a warm veil to the sound imo) and seems to be able to drive the Yuin's much better than the SGS2 - my ears will give up before I reach max volume this time around.
To my ears, at this stage, it offers a pretty well balanced sound - plenty of detail resolved without sounding overly harsh on the tracks I have tried. The mids certainly sound better than the previous 2 phones mentioned from my recollection.
Not had a play with any equaliser settings yet as I prefer listening without tweaking these in any way if possible.

I have compared the Nexus to the GS2.
1. Don't worry it blows the GS2 out the water. Highs are high, lows are low. Tested with .flac on same settings via power amp.

3. Speaker is very low. Not as loud as cm7 on GS2 but hey the quality is OK.
4. Gone are the days of the Bluetooth audio crackle via A2DP. It has very good quality via A2DP even compared to GS2 CM7.

Google+ application settings on an Android phone will automatically upload new photos and videos to a Google+ album. There's no need to panic, though, as the photos and the album itself will remain private until you sign into Google+ and specify which images you want to share with select circles
To disable automatic upload from the Google+ Android app, select "Settings" within the "Menu" screen and uncheck "Instant Upload." Now you have control of which mobile photos make it to your private Google+ album.
The Instant Upload settings allows for further customization, including uploading all existing photos on your phone, uploading only when connected to a WiFi network (good for those with capped data plans), and uploading only when the phone is charging.
If you've ever had or used Picasa, there is a chance you've got an album there that Google is picking up and syncing.
Click on the "My Photos" tab, click on the offending album, click on the "actions" tab, and choose "delete album".
To delete the synced photos from Gallery
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google +
Then press the "Clear data" button.
Now when you go back to the gallery the instant upload and any photos linked in Picasa will be gone.
You should also disable the syncing before doing this if you don't want them to come back again.

Multitasking?

QUOTE(mark @ Mar 14 2012, 08:52 PM)
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding running apps, multitasking, background tasks and such.
When you launch an Android app, the task is active/running. You use the app, play with the app, etc.
When you exit back to the home screen (or go to a different app), the app is stopped. This means that the app is frozen and will not run/take up battery/etc. It also means the Android OS can freely kill that task if the Android OS needs more memory for other things (i.e. you opened up a really heavy game, you haven't gone back to that app in a while, etc).
So how does multitasking work? How does your app check for email in the background? This is done by something called services. Services run in the background, you don't really see it anywhere on your screen. Even when you quit your app, it still has a service running in the background. It checks your mail even if you're not in the app, it checks for new messages when you're not in the app. If you're busy downloading something using your browser, and you go to a different app, your download still continues, because the browser is running it's own download service in the background.
An example to this would be WhatsApp. If you don't open the app, how does it check for new messages for you? It runs the WhatsApp background service to check for messages for you. You don't have to open the app to keep checking for new messages, it already runs by itself in the background. The Android OS takes care of what services to run, kill, etc automatically for you. That's why if you use a manual task killer (you shouldn't, btw), after a few minutes you'll notice the WhatsApp service running again.
This, of course, does not apply to ALL apps. It depends on whether the app developer has made such a feature available or not. Let's take Draw Something as another example. It doesn't have a background service, therefore it doesn't notify you if you have new drawings to guess.
tl;dr, to answer your question, you don't have to open viber/yahoo/gmail/gtalk to get notifications. The notification part of these apps are running in the background and are checking for new messages for you.
Also, regarding the ICS tasks button, all the tasks listed there are "frozen" apps... the apps themselves aren't running and aren't taking any CPU resources.
For better understanding, you can also read up on the Android Activity Lifecycle, but it's more technical and more for programmers: Android Activity Lifecycle

Don't worry, it is perfectly normal if you feel that your phone is heating up around the camera area, especially when you are using your phone, even if its just minor activities. (you don't know what's going on in the background).

Rubin is explaining what makes a “Nexus” phone, as opposed to any old Android phone. Basically, Google gets deeply involved in the design, working with the hardware maker and the chipmakers. Rubin notes there are over a million lines of code in Android.
“So much work goes into producing the UI and the changes that you make, and then typically what happens is that the OEM’s put their skins on it and put their own touch. Does it bother you that so much work goes into it and in the end, a lot of consumers don’t interact with the UI as you intended it?”
Well, it would bother me more if we didn’t have programs like the Nexus program. The idea behind the Nexus device is to do exactly that – to give consumers an option to use the baseline work that we do if they choose…the philosophy of Android, the idea that partners can customize Android if they want to, is really important to making Android successful. There are Android phones (Nexus). And there are Sense phones (HTC). And there are Philblur Motorola phones. And there are TouchWiz phones. And so on and so forth.
With the Nexus line, Google has its flagships, its models of how its operating system should work. The broader world of Android is more like MS-DOS—the original "weak OS." Every version of the software is retailored and rebranded by its manufacturer. Even some software has to be rewritten to conform to different machines and their varied specs. But what you get is accelerated development of hardware and broad interoperability between machines, which benefits both users and developers.
Why does this distinction matter?
If you're an Android user, you may simply have to accept that you didn't buy an Android device running Google software; you bought a device from Samsung, Motorola or Amazon running Samsung, Motorola or Amazon software. Unless you have a Nexus, Google's more or less invisible on your device. Finally, you're never going to be able to just pull a brand-new software update out of the cloud and stick it on your machine. Not unless you're up for a little hacking. From Arstechnica
QUOTE
There is on one specific reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus so bad. It's everything brought together in a single device, all of the gripes and disappointment in other, non-Nexus handsets that I've had over the past two years and the thought of using Android specifically how Google envisions it. Not everyone will agree, not will everyone understand. But we all have our reasons for the preferences we have, and a run-of-the-mill Android phone just doesn't cut it for me anymore. From PhoneDog
QUOTE
But that is the philosophy of Android, a philosophy that had eluded me until now. To Google, Android is an operating system. To companies like HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is the building-blocks with which they will build their own unique devices.
Google makes Android phones. Apple makes iOS phones. HTC makes Sense phones. Samsung makes TouchWiz phones. Motorola makes MotoBlur phones.
I've absolutely loved using my pre-release Galaxy Nexus phone running the new version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. It is truly beautiful hardware with incredible software. By Larry Page, CEO of Google

In this post, I’ll be talking about the rooting process of an Android device as far as my best knowledge allows me to. Regarding ‘root’ itself, please consult the many definitions around the internet. In short, it is a special permission granted to a user to perform low level operations on a system (like backing up your Angry Birds game data, or changing the boot animation). 'Rooting' is the process of obtaining the means to grant this permission.

What it is, is a full backup of partitions on your device's NAND flash (NAND stands for NOT AND, a type of electronic logic gate -- it's like the hard drive of your Android device) storage. Think of it as a snapshot of the current running system, and it can be used to restore that that point at any time. Both user data and system files are backed up, and it's a far cry from what we think of when talking about a traditional backup from other software.

those who dislike the micro lag when opening app drawer, this is the mod for you. After reading that thread, main cause for this seems to be that the home screen is killed to make space for other apps in memory, so there will be times where the home screen requires redraw. What this mod does is make the home screen the top priority in the memory process, so it doesn't get killed easily or not at all.

If you are having problem in applying wet SP, which is a must if you're looking for something that covers full front of the phone, here are some tips written by droid13579
Before you begin, cut your fingernails and wash your hands. This is to prevent nail damage to the skin and minimum the risk of bringing lint, dust and dirt.
Location to skin application: There are few locations are suitable for application: Steamy Bathroom (is a PLUS since steam is capable to trap dust) Bathroom Kitchen Bedroom Study Room/Guest Room
As long you switch off any air ventilation like fan, air conditioner. Lock your door and windows, your fine to proceed. Clean your area, to minimum the risk of bringing lint and dust.
After cleaning your area, prepare your own solution (if they don't provide you) try look for a shallow dish plate or spray bottle. Put 2 or 3 drops of mild soap and mix it with water, and you now have your own solution.
For mild soap, I suggest using baby shampoo like Johnson baby shampoo or any dish wash liquid.
Once your have your own solution, prepare your own version of squegee card if they don't provide you. Any credit card would be fine but make sure they have straight edges to prevent damage your skin during squegee.
Now you have those two main stuffs, time to bring out your paper towel or microfibre cloth. Personally, I prefer paper towel because it is easily available than microfibre cloth, or anti fog cloth is good to go.
Once you have those stuffs, bring out your skin and read their instructions. Some might give tips for application process.
Time for application, first wash your hands once again and clean them with your paper towel.
Before application, clean your device with your microfibre, anti-fog or paper towel to remove smudges and dust on your screen. TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE, REMOVE YOUR BATTERY, ENGAGE THE ON SWITCH!
For Spray Bottle method: Spray your non-adhesive skin for two pumps, then wet your fingers with your spray. Peel your Skin, immediately and give like 3 ~ 4 pumps on adhesive side.
Now place on your device screen, and align it with your fingers. Your skin should move freely for this time. After you have set your alignment, leave your device like 1~2 minutes.
After 1~2 minutes, prepare your credit card or squegee card. Start push your access liquid and air bubbles from middle to the left or middle to the right while try not to move your skin, DO NOT squegee the skin to hard or it will leave marks, or causing miss align.
Keep squeegee for like 5~8 minutes to remove all bubbles and use your paper towel/microfibre cloth to trap any water/liquid to prevent get into the device. After that, clean and damp the screen with paper towel/micro fibre cloth.
Now your skin should be like clean and zero bubbles, if they do have don't peel or being paranoiac. Look for a windy place and place your device there for 12/24 hours. Those streaks, micro-bubbles will dissipated during these period.
AND NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD BE LOOK CLEAN AND BRAND NEW!
Shallow Plate "Dip" Method for Wet Screen Protector Application
When I said Shallow Plate to Dip your solution is not to immerse your skin to your solution. This might be tricky but if you do it properly it also gives a good look when it is done.
First, Prepare a shallow dish plate fill with water and add 2~3 drops of baby shampoo/ dish wash liquid mix with your finger and you have your own version of solution. Not to forget prepare your anti fog cloth/ micro fibre, paper towel and squeegee card/credit card.
**You may use warm water as an alternative.**
Now, wash your hands and clean your device to remove all those dirt, dust, lint and grease. Not to forget remove the battery, turn off the device.
Begin to dip the non adhesive side, a shallow dip is enough not immerse the skin. If it is too wet, shake vigorously to remove big water particles. Wet your fingertips by dip into your solution and peel it. Give shallow dip for non adhesive side and shake it.
**If you think shake vigorously still look wet for both sides, try wipe on one direction like butter on toast to remove excess water, liquid.**
Immediately, place your skin to your device and leave it for 1~2 minutes. Now your skin should move freely, and try align it in this time. Remember align it with your fingers gently by recognize it front facing cameras, proximal sensors and ambient sensors and front speakers.
After 1~2 minutes, start squeegee with your credit card from middle to left/right then up to down. Don't squeegee too hard or else you will damage the skin. Do this for 5~8 minutes.
**While Squeegee, try damp the excess solution and not to push the solution to cut outs**
After 5~8 minutes, wipe/damp the excess solution with paper towel/mircofibre/anti fog cloth. Your skin should look free bubbles. If you do saw a streaks, micro-bubbles. Don't be paranoiac and peel it, find a windy place at let it dry for 12/24 hours.
NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD LOOK CLEAR LIKE IT WAS NO SCREEN PROTECTOR, TIME TO FOOL YOUR FRIENDS AND SAID I HAVE GONE NAKED WITH MY SCREEN

the top one can. but stick with stock better not yet. has miui stable already ?
already stable quite long ago. no more lag but still micro-lag when open folder only. daily useable, no problem on MIUI. now 720p theme support some more. just waiting for more 720p v4 theme, I believe after the global competition. will be a lot pop-up. now just want to confirm, is Trinity support in MIUI?
Searched around and found problem posted in RootzWiki. Damn... I'll my contact photos cannot be restored because of this bug, else will show up grey!
i just noticed that i have the same issues with some pics, they will turn grey. Not only in the gallery but sometimes in Flipboard as well. Flashed back b35 and confirmed the issue is not there.
However, only a few of my images are affected, so not really a biggie but definitely an issue.
How are you restoring your contact photos ??? i've tried to use other app such as filexpert and quickpic to view those broken images and they turn up fine

I'm using HD Contacts, the grey pics appeared when I want to set/change contacts photo that are stored in G+. The problem is the default gallery, not other apps, so Quickpic can show no problem, but Quickpic can't show G+ photos...
if u know the location where u stored the image, can u use filexpert to choose photo instead of gallery ?
Wanna keep my apps to a minimum, so I'll just wait for B39 for the mean time. If really want to update photos, maybe will just copy the images to phone and just Quickpic.

My location in my office is quite far from the wifi router so the wifi reception for my gnex is very poor.
I was on Lean 3.9 this morning. The wifi indicator only 1 bar max and most of the times no signal at all. Flashed franco M4 and the signal improved. Mostly 2 bars and sometimes 1 bar.
For me, franco M4 give better signal. Its stated in its changelog that its wi-fi voltage back to stock to prevent signal issues

Is there anywhere that I can remote wipe my nicked galaxy nexus? it flew to pakistan already .. and saw that it accesses my google play last by june 8 just before I changed my google password. Anybody knows?
I've done many searches, it seems that I need to install the apps before it get stolen. Guess I can just wish that the guy will wipe it clean.. but judging from the last access to google play, it seems doesn't like it..
well to begin with, remote wipe needs root access.. so if u install anyapp now, u pretty much cant do anything. (correct me if im wrong) now the only options is to spam the person by filling the memory with random apps.. i think u can remove devices in google account.. try looking.~

Guys, i heard that next os which is jelly bean is for tablet only is it true? Or sama like ICS which can be on phone and also tablet?
I guess Android will not U-turn back. next Android should be follow same like ICS, for both tablet & phone. else, we gonna see custom rom developer port it...
i m currenly using AOKP Milestone5 rom (with stock build&kernel), just realise M5 eat more ram than previously i m used yakju stock rom and the battery also not as good as wat i expect. Anyone used Android Revolution HD 4.0.1 rom before? how is the performance for that?
replace the /system/media/audio/ui/Effect_Tick.ogg from CM to AOKP
wow. Thankiuu sifu.

My first ROM was arhd. Haha. It's like stock but more smooth scrolling and so on.

I will vote for him as TS.
I will skip this tablet because already confirm using tegra SoC. disappointed, I actually plan to get first ever nexus tablet, I don't mind either Qualcomm, TI or Exynos SoC except nVidia.

because of the performance under par? I don't really mind if it could serve my basic needs.
I don't play games. surfing, play with apps and ROMs most of the time.
Hey there. Still haven't bought a Nexus Been too busy the past few weeks. But can anyone give me the name of the seller here that is reliable and good? I can't remember, and searching through hundreds of pages... :-/

I want a tablet that is also a developer device.
too early to conclude the performance before the actual product release and review. my personal reason is just don't want to support any nVidia, from tablet/smartphone, I hate nVidia rebranding desktop graphics card and overpromising performance, many victim on notebook nvidia 8300M quality issue few years back but nVidia refuse to declare recall all but only fix-on-fail. nVidia fails to compete in Server/Enterprise too after attempt.

Another reason why Apple are adopting AMD(ATi) now a day.
vernon91, Strange, it should be better than STOCK in everything.
Dropping too fast? Since? What's the current price?
I think they stopped producing it or are at least phasing it out... hopefully by the time I can actually buy it (will be around KL end of the month, so I'd rather not have the risk of shipping it to my place) there are still some left.
In Germany (easy to check) the price has been stable for 1 1/2 months now (actually went up), apart from regional offers. Must have hit rock bottom and bouncing back now, as shops start running out of stock. http://geizhals.at/de/?phist=740585&age=9999 (graph since it entered the market until now.)

really? the latest macbook pro uses Nvida 650M
In fact, Apple already decided switch to AMD(ATI) graphics previously but unluckily AMD facing supply issue. Apple resume back to nVidia. Yes, latest MacBook just announced is offering Kepler.
Next, AMD should not make the same mistake again. next year production AMD outsource to TSMC, just like nVidia or Qualcomm doing now. For Console, Xbox & PS already announce switch from nVidia to AMD graphic
LOL from nexus to nvidia n amd talk... anyhows, lappies getting nvidia still better..unless u oc desktops n others amd rules.. u dunwanna have a laptop with bad drivers..(amd rep of giving graphics driver update are bad)
i just hope that the nexus tablet is true. $200 for a tablet is gooding. Its okay if they are using nvidia as long as nvidia become open source after that.
oh yeah. i prefer ati now. hehe. smoking hot red girl on the graphic card box.

I didn't know there was _any_ talk about the PS4 or xbox 361 yet... they didn't even say that there will be a successor to the current ones.
Tell me about it... I have the 2nd or 3rd mainboard in my laptop now, since the damn nvidia chip keeps dying. Thank god it's a Dell, so they keep changing it (but I doubt there will be another one, laptop almost 4 years old now). Should have asked them to give me a board with Intel graphics.
Directd! That's it. And I was searching for something with s... no wonder I didn't find anything.

It seems the Linaro is not quite optimized and usable yet. Team CyanogenMOD implies that Linaro is breaking their GPS. And, they can't fix that at the moment.
I am not sure when will they fix the problem... LOL.
Reason? Was using the awesome Garmin Asus A10 GPS phone. ( Gps lock less than 5 seconds yo )The bad part, software update non existent and stuck at eclair. No custom rom support whatsoever.
That day I told my self not to get Asus products anymore. So got my self an awesome gnex. It is not without limitation but every software update makes the phone even better.
But things might change differently now for them by this cheap tablet launch. Let's wait for Google I/O for the final say.

Back to gnex thread. Lol
Indeed. There is one ASUS tablet at the cost of sub $200 grabbed my attention too. But I believe the software update is going to make me become long neck.
I was happy to see Google is rolling out a cheap tablet and I hope it could follow Nexus family product line which is open source and get updates first.
Things still remain uncertain till the I/O day.
To me, it would be too plain if just stick to one version of OS and just playing with apps.
The most I stay with a ROM is one month plus and I will be starting to find something new to try out.

ORI price now RM1350 only... same as AP... price dropped so much since S3 launched...

Anyway to backup original firmware this phone comes with? Does Toolkit have this function? I will use that to do the flashing stuff.

Yes, obviously.
If you're doing WIPE, then, you'll need GAPPS. Else, just dirty flash the Linaro CM9 ROM will do. The previous GAPPS will retain. If it's gone, then, only flash the GAPPS again. Doesn't hurt at all.
GAPPS can be obtained everywhere... just GOOGLE it. Latest version should be 429.

A little bit of general UI improvement. But, the GUI Improvement is not related this, it needs to be fixed by Google itself. Unless, there's super genius developers tried to optimized every GUI, image file size, transition(most important), etc found in ICS.
When ip5 is out. Gonna get ip4 just because of the front camera. Can nexus camera take picture like the IP? For front only. Any 3rd app? Lol
are you serious ??? of course Gnex can use the front cam to snap photo ! you can even shoot video with it hahaha
no 3rd party app required, just use the default camera app. There is a camera icon with arrows below it. Click on it to switch the camera between front and back

It kept my phone awake as seen from battery status, so the usage was like 85% in total.
How did it happens, well I was travelling yesterday, so connection was rather scarce throughout the highway.
I received an email with attachments in it. Most of the time I have problem downloading the attachment (photo) from our Lotus Notes Traveler server, so I decided to forward it to my Gmail. There was a message that said, 1 of the attachments have to be downloaded before it can be forwarded. After a whole day, I still didn't managed to receive that email in my Gmail and there was nothing showing in the Exchange on my phone.
So I guess that was the culprit. Don't do heavy stuff when you don't have a stable connection.
I have removed the account, now the phone is charging normally. Will add it back again after I have completed my charge.

Latest MIUI Changelog for this week doesn't impress me at all... I also think that the Galnet version won't boot AGAIN.
MIUI, why you no smoother?
because you no feedback just kidding... I won't trust Galnet anymore, refer their statistic download, SGS & S2 are most top user; their focus also must more on SGS & S2. now I'm using MIUI.us, gonna search for any other MIUI site or developer which are focus more on gnex if any.

This weeks recommended updates:
1. Added support to export contacts to SIM card, added due to user feedback as the feature is commonly used. 2. Optimisation of 12-hour time segments "AM/PM" to "morning, noon, afternoon. evening, and midnight. 3. New theme searching interface to make searching for themes easier and more efficient.
grab that admin also looking for nexus yes, suggest to all future owner, just buy original set now. it's really worth and forget about AP set (unless really super dirt cheap)
down side of AP is, they give you 18 months warranty (sounds great), but 3 months only warranty applies to LCD and accessories.
Original Samsung SME warranty (SME) - give you 12 months warranty for transceiver and included LCD, and 6 months warranty applies to accessories
soo till have to make a new post 4 it anyhows, congrats to all the pple who spend 2k-2.2k on nexus money can be earn again but just hold ur hand from entering ur pocket nex time
Really? That's the best reply you can come up with?

this makes me hate this phone really it has no second hand value at all unlike the SGS series less than a year the price dropped almost half
How about actually treating the device as a phone instead of some share in the stock market where you have to constantly have the best or whatever?
Unless you're a smartphone hobbyist, I don't see a point in stressing about the current retail or 2nd hand price. Your phone does not suddenly slow down nor shut down completely when its street price drops to a certain level, does it?
An analogy would be cars. Other than vintage cars, I have yet to see a car hold it's price few months after it was launched. It's called depreciation.

what he actually meant was the depreciation of nexus phones is much bigger than those from sgs series.. some people actually keep the phone for a while and resell it and upgrade to newer phones.. so with the greater depreciation value one has to top up more in order to do just that.. means market price drop lah bro..
Now quite ok already, SME sets RM1295 (SatuGadgetDotCom) and RM1299(DirectD)
Planning to get this too soon. Unless some other phone come up again
not sure bout you, but after having Gnex for more than 6 months now, i think Nexus is the best for me.. no more waiting/hoping for firmware upgrade like my old SE X10 (but it was a gr8 phone nonetheless) even stock unrooted, i'm very2x satisfied with the performance...
with 1299 price tag, no need to wait la, just go n buy it.. cos by the time it goes below 1K, it'll become too old to be a new phone alredi (if that makes any sense la)

nope, if u compare all the other phones, from android 1.0 to gingerbread, those are pretty much old. why i say so, let me justify my thoughts. -on basic hardware terms, the nexus actually made it to liveable and usable without rooting and changing roms. the power n speed, efficiency and smoothness of the ui is what we can say the fencing between i)omg this phone lags, ii)itz fine, iii)it dun lag anyshit.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
take any phone living below and around gingerbread, it lags. (not mentioning the higher end around the s2 period) the boinic, the legend, the incredible, atix, name all the high end in elcair, cupcake, some ginger too. it lags, ram were insufficient and calling it a workhorse is just stupid.(sorry older gen platforms). a simple nokia beats all basic functions of these phones. call, sms, set alarm to wake up.
right now the nexus just steped into middle ground where it will continue to accelerate to complete no lags(i hope) if u remain on ics updates n dun push to jellybean, i dare say it can match 1-2 years of phone scrolling and so, fluidity is there browsing is painless, and aslong as the apps loaded is not too heavy i think the processors can pretty much take the work. conclusion- it will be old after 2-3 yrs further if u are tech savvy and want to feel the speed that u may not feel. if u just use the phone to work, break the truth, it may last as long as the BB and nokias in ur dad n grandpa.
this makes me hate this phone really it has no second hand value at all unlike the SGS series less than a year the price dropped almost half
But but didn't that happen to the previous 2 Nexi as well? Price dropped faster than other Samsung popular droids. Seriously I don't understand why this phone isn't popular and is not getting much marketing from Samsung.

Actually the 2nd-hand price is quite predictable.
iPhone - hardly falls all year long Samsung and HTC - falls slowly, flagships are more resistant SE and LG (and maybe Motorola) - drops fast, you will face big loss even if you buy 2nd-hand and sell 2 months later
This is from experience, have bought and sold 8 2nd-hand phones within 1 year.

It's called depreciation.
haha, I'm just ranting nonsense here Don't get me wrong, I think gnex is a good phone But for one that owns b4 a sgs, sgs 2, sgs3 and gnex, I'd say that this phone depreciate faster than it should be Sold sgs 2 recently after using for one year, the value dep Only half of it. Gnex, I can foresee that it will soon be a promo by telco, just like the nexus s This phone is good in terms of software update and vanilla Andr
Guess this phone will stay with me for quite some time it will be a manufacturer flagship product for me the next time

u know, for whoever ts going to make the nexus tablet, should arrange this game. guess the price after 6 months~ winner get to drink a tab for free losers (didnt win) join the fun drinking game objective, guess the % and the price after 6 months. game starts when tablet arrives in malaysia. would be fun knowing nexus, nexus s, galaxy nexus all turun kao kao
I am just wondering if the nexus tablet will have phone function.
Galaxy Nexus + Nexus 7 = awesome combo breaker

not sure if there is app for this event, I guess should have like last year. so we can see the update via phone.
the touchwiz now works perfectly no lag no stutter (quad core maa) camera functions (burst mode, 8MP) sound quality (speakers top and bottom) 12000++ antutu (not yet root) browsing quite fast (maybe coz he use maxis) cool way of screen capture (slide hand from right to left) quite light (even with cover, lighter than my nexus) screen reso is full 720 (not like nexus with the on screen button which caused the screen to reduce in reso) the s voice nothing to say bout it (we oso can install) HD video (same as nexus but the speakers makes it better) that what i saw in 5 minutes playing with it
To be honest , Most of the time .. the busiest thread around here are all talking nonsense/chit chat
Correct. Like kopitiam only. Want to find useful info also very difficult. Some talk about college exams, bla bla.
Tried OTG cable yesterday. Unlike S2 where the functionality is activated out-of-the-box, our Nexus requires root and the StickMount app before it will recognize a thumbdrive. Another disadvantage in Samsung's stepchild

again, another successful high profit flagship for samsung. even accessories also boost a lot, heard that S3 won't work with regular MHL cable used in S2/Note/Nexus but you have to buy new S3 MHL cable for S3. samsung tweak the circuit internal cause incompatible with your old MHL cable even physically connect or same size.
+ 1. even with better spec than nexus, the main thing i dont like bout the S series of galaxy is that they have the physical button. . too iphonish..
yeah.....agree, dislike the physical button. on-screen buttons rules!! mod any button we like. don't like on-screen buttons coz no full 720p resolution? no problem, there is tweak already available to toggle on/off your nav bar, what's the problem?
I guess you don't know because you are with a casing since Day 1.
don't worry too much ... just aim better
i don't think casing will help if you don't aim better, the outlet for the usb port for all casing are bigger then the port itself = you will still scratch it if you don't aim properly.
having said that, i don't use any casing and have been connecting the usb port with the charger in pitch dark condition for countless time, no scratches or chips yet
as someone who has just got married this statement is funny LOL on a side note GNEX WINS on the customization and tweaking side now i dont have any nav bar anymore, use gesture to navigate (still testing)

Agreed... those outlets are all much bigger... cucuk baik-baik bang, jangan tak kena...
May I know what the sticker protections are called? They cover the whole phone?
as someone who has just got married this statement is funny LOL on a side note GNEX WINS on the customization and tweaking side now i dont have any nav bar anymore, use gesture to navigate (still testing)
which gesture app u using ?? LMT ?? eventhough its nice and all , but i find it a bit slow for my liking ... not sure if newer versions are any faster
i suggest you give a try with button saviour, it give a more instantaneous response
screen reso is full 720 (not like nexus with the on screen button which caused the screen to reduce in reso)
Just want to correct one thing. Nexus is full 720p too, because "720p resolution" is a hardware thing. S3 is using the same screen as the Nexus. But the software is registering the resolution as lower because of the already occupied space by the Nav bar. In terms of hardware, its still "full 720p".
Also, the smoothness of Touchwiz comes from software optimization, not because its quad core. Since S2 (non g) Touchwiz is already smooth. One X is quad core too, but the slight lag is still there, which I guess is due to Sense UI.
btw I also played with the s3 demo unit in a shop. Unimpressed is all I can say the design is just..not something you'd expect from a flagship. One X would be the better buy between the 2, but that's just IMO. At least I get the subtle "I want one" feeling when I played with it briefly.
But still with that said, my future phones will come back to one question. Is it a Nexus?
toolkit chances of messing up is preety rare.. unless the user of the toolkit is messed up just a question, toolkit 1.4?? i think u nid to update... at least to 5.6 or 5.9 which support more things and also have access to 4.0.4
ICS on Gnex is way different compare to galaxy s2 ICS
I kinda plan to root this babe...
I will using Gnextoolkitv1.4. Any tips? I hope, I not mess up when root this babe kinda noob lol
S2 s3 and note ICS all are skinned heavily ...
On Gnex what you get is pure ICS the way it was intended and the way it won the gold for Best System Experience at the 2012 User Experience Awards lately
yeah.....agree, dislike the physical button. on-screen buttons rules!! mod any button we like. don't like on-screen buttons coz no full 720p resolution? no problem, there is tweak already available to toggle on/off your nav bar, what's the problem?
toggling those navigation bar needs root, rite.... hmm... this might be a good reason for me to finally root my gnex....
I'd just like to quote one thing from AOKP B39 changlog.
QUOTE
a note about linaro (warning, tech mumbo jumbo ahead) These builds do NOT include the new Linaro optimizations. The optimizations don't increase the speed of Android by 100%, nor do they inject butter. They use a newer toolchain to compile Android, which has more optimizations. The Linaro people have also made the proper changes in Android code to allow builds to be compiled with -O3 instead of -O2 flags (think of it as another pass of code optimizations).
Please do not ask us whether we will include them in the future. We like speed as much as the next guy, but we want to make sure that it doesn't break ANYTHING. When/if it's ready, you'll know.
Enjoy!
in case someone missed it

If just upgrade, you can try dirty flash, if found out having bugs, then only wipe. No harm done right? Just be sure backup before doing anything.

u can folo fallout explanation of just flashing the b39 and reboot but if u start having these symtoms 1 random reboot (phone sits there then poof, google sign shows) 2 force close (apps stop working/app crash) 3 main stuff not working (calls, sms etc) 4 bootloop 5 random events
if so u nid to backup ur apps using titanium backup and wipe then flash.
btw just backup in case fire happens

SMS backup obviously for SMS text. Titanium Backup is for user apps and system data file. Nandroid is for?
sms =sms correct. titanium dun backup system data.. u get problems. just titanium back app and data.. narndroid is full system backup(found in CWM backup) narndroid raplicates the whole memory storage in ur nexus n if fire breaks out, u can just restore back to the time u installed fire hose
So Nandroid just like Norton Ghost in Windows where you can replicate the whole partition?
just 1 question not related to nexus, u use norton ghost? if so, can i backup my 520gb hhd and then mount the image on to a 1tb hhd or 120ssd? will windows work after that?? cuz searching for a software to migrate my degrading hhd

if you're viewing a solid grey, and there's banding then it might be the hardware
but if its something like the settings page, its the software

Yea, that's what I want to ask, don't seems to find any "enter" key... did they forget it again? Same like ICS keyboard?
It's not that they forgot to put the enter key there
It's because Google keyboard are all contexts aware ,meaning it will change according to the input field type. Like replying in this forum , the enter key will appear on the bottom right. When u write SMS the enter key will become Smiley face.

dun worry if itz cheap, just buy 1 if u dun like it can store it away~ *toss money into air and screams 'I won the lottery'*
well 5mp is actually depends on how u take the picture. 5mp is more than enuf for oversized pictures, and the big player is now the sensor reading the situation. bad lighting will result with bad pictures. even dslr users pick good lighting when they r holding the best cameras.
battery life u say? if u're on android u can underclock it. if u're on iphone, u got to bare wif it. if u're on mango, u got to strip it down from all the fancy animation and back to old school nokia retro.
play hard games all phones dies in hours. leave phone on standby, it lasts 4 days.. plz leave some info how u use ur phone.

Woah, I use data and my current WP7 could get me about 1 full day, which I thought was not enough lol.
And sorry to ask this, but how do you update android phones? Does it have an official software, like iOS has iTunes, WP7 has Zune. The last time I used my Galaxy S I had to manually download the firmware and use a 3rd party software (forgot the name) to update because Samsung Kies kinda sucked
nope :3 I sware that I only love Vanilla Android :3
nah, i was quoting u becoming s3.. stalker

We as a pure Google phone has OTA update, which has been broken by our beloved Samsung by bringing us yakjuxx or xf/fg/wr/dg/hg blah... nvm
If you flash to original yakju, you'll be having update by Google without using any platform, just open wifi and the phone will prompt you about new updates. For more info about yakju, visit first page.

Any galaxy nexus owner here has 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 stock ics unrooted / non custom flash made? Cause stock ics i have now is 4.0.2 unrooted. I see some other country already has it
Why my Nexus can't NFC with blackberry 9900 and Galaxy S3...
Mine works (gnex and s3). However its Android Beam only as ICS intended I.e. transfer of web links, map location, YouTube link etc.
S3's S Beam doesn't work with Gnex as it is proprietary. Means Samsung made their own app to utilize Wi-Fi direct. So it means you can't transfer huge files between these 2.
download the USB driver and firmware files to Windows (may take multiple tries, keep trying). run USB driver app in Windows run firmware app in Windows put phone in download mode (power off, volume down + power on, plug USB cable in) in firmware app, click start!
and you're done! You're now yakju with latest Google ITL41F.
Can anyone brief me about the above steps? I'm planning to update my current 4.0.2 to yakju 4.0.4, but according to the above instruction, i don't know where to download the USB driver app and Firmware App, hope you guys can guide me on that. thanks

gnex also have WiFi-Direct function. tmr gonna see any S2 friends to try it.
a few apps to share that I found interesting from AP
Castle File Manager. its a file manager that allows you to browse stream content using FTP. I haven't try it though, just find the idea interesting the app is still in alpha stage, so it will become better later
Disk Digger for recovering deleted photo/images! I'm sure someone will need this
InFoto for plotting your images into infographics by analyzing them. just a fun app to have.
welcome to the club. ap or original? now is really worth to get gnex, as SME price so good right now. I guess more and more user gonna reporting in here

Means the phone will just "on" by itself during the night? Check your phone's Setting->Battery->History details and see if your phone is asleep or just fully awake? A fully awake phone might be the cause of switching on your screen.
