This is the first time I'm writing a tutorial, so please bear with me a little, key? I've had some requests and decided just to write up a simple tutorial. Although I must stress out that flashing your phone might void warranty, and I'm NOT in anyway an expert and I can't guarantee you everything will work out. Some of this steps might increase your binary counts and MIGHT be taken as a prove that you've been fiddling with the system which MIGHT cause Samsung to reject your warranty claims. Although I've seen some posts here in Lowyat and the internet which basically tells us that Samsung has been very generous and doesn't care about it.

I'm NOT going to take any responsibility if you permanently bricked your phone or your girlfriend run away with your dog (sorry, old joke). My experience says, it is very hard to really brick a SGSII

Presented here are 2 ways I9100G users can root their phone. Choose only ONE!

PLEASE SHARE YOUR RESULTS/PROBLEMS/SUCCESSES/FAILURES

LATEST TECHNIQUE: Rooting WITHOUT increasing your binary counts, WITHOUT flashing a custom firmware
latest, alittle bit advanced, but less chance of you bricking your phone... but will work for anyone? If it doesn't work for you, then use the older technique further below

This is special for you guys who are concerned about increasing the binary counts, and don't want to fiddle with custom kernels. Before you begin, please update your firmware using KIES

Already updated your firmware and cannot reset binary count with USB JIG? Please downgrade your firmware using the ROM below (in older steps), then USB JIG will work. Then, using KIES, update your firmware before continuing.

What you'll need;
1. Download DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit from here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582. I've used the version 1, but I think version 2 should also work.
2. Samsung driver for android phones installed or KIES installed

The idea;
Using Android Debug Bridge (adb.exe), you'll push zergRush exploit tools to crash the ADB interface and force it to reboot into root mode, accept Superuser and Busybox package which will be installed into your phone. Thanks DooMLoRD@XDA! Sound complicated? No, not really, just follow the steps below!

The Steps
1. Extract the DooMLoRD file. I've used the version 1, but I think version 2 should also work.
2. You'll need to edit a file alittle bit to make sure it work with SGSII I9100G, otherwise nothing will happen. Open the file "runme.bat" with Notepad (right click, open with, find notepad) and find the line that contain "adb wait-for-device". There should be 2 instances of that line, NO NEED TO STARE AT THE CODES AND GIVE YOUR SELF A HEADACHE!, just find the similar line in your files, which I've marked for deletion. Right afterword, please add the "@pause" command as illustrated below;



Above code might seems alittle bit fuzzy... Make sure you remove ONLY the second "@files\adb wait-for-device" line. ONLY THE SECOND ONE, key?

EDIT: Please add a "@pause" to allow some delay for adb to reconnect to the device which should be around 20 seconds.

Save and close the file.

3. Get your phone to enable USB debugging mode (Menu\Settings\Applications\Development) and enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" (Menu\Settings\Applications)

4. Exit KIES if it is running. Also stop any phone management software that's running.

5. Plug in the USB cord and let the driver installation finishes

6. Double click "runme.bat", a black and white interface will come out. It should take a looong time for this process to finish... Read the output, you might find it interesting. This process might take 5-10 minutes...

7. (ADDED) You'll find "Press Any Key To Continue...". Please WAIT FOR 20 SECONDS before pressing your keyboard... Then, your phone will restart...

If successful, you'll find the Superuser icon. Yay!

Worked with me flawlessly. Does it work for you? Are you confused? Please share your thoughts

OLDER TECHNIQUE: Rooting by using rooted kernel
longer steps, but seems to be working properly all the time

Edit: It is possible to substitute the firmware with the latest one (DZKJ2), but you'll need the original kernel-image only tar file, which sadly I haven't be able to find at the moment

What you'll need;

1. A Galaxy SII I9100G phone. The G is required!. Check behind your battery
2. USB cable suitable for the phone
3. Samsung driver or KIES installed. But please close KIES before proceeding Go Google if you don't have one
4. DZKI1 original full firmware: http://www.multiupload.com/6L8BALT56F
5. DZKI1 original kernel image: http://www.multiupload.com/AS18CIXQNX
6. ZCKH4 rooted kernel image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...52&postcount=22

8. ODIN 1.85 firmware flasher: http://www.multiupload.com/1VELKG3NIQ

Password if required is "intratech@XDA" without the quotes

The idea;

Update your phone to the latest DZKI1 firmware, then flash a rooted ZCKH4 to get the Superuser application. (ZCKH4 is compatible with I9100Gs, although, your wifi will not work). Update the superuser application, and flash back the original DZKI1 to fix your wifi.

The Steps

Preparation
Firstly, extract everything into its own folder. Switch off the phone and take out SIM and SD card. To enter download mode, hold down Volume Down button + OK button(home) simultaneously and THEN press the Power Button. Once you see the warning logo, IMMEDIATELY release all buttons and push ONLY the Volume UP button. You'll see "ODIN MODE" and the android logo. Plug in the phone to your pc and let the new driver installation finish. WARNING, please DO NOT continue if you are having problem with the driver installation.

Updating Your Firmware
Please follow the instruction exactly, otherwise, you'll probably get into complicated problems. Get to the Odin folder and run the application. Click PIT button and browse for the "omap4_all_20110627_emmc.pit" file. Click the PDA button and include the DZKI1 original full firmware. It's filename should be .tar. Click "Start" and wait until its done. The phone will restart and you'll have a new firmware. If you stucked on the galaxy logo (NOT THE YELLOW TRIANGLE case), please google for "Galaxy s2 clear cache". If everything went smoothly, you'll be up and away setting up the google account information.

Flash The Rooted Kernel
Please follow the above instruction again, substituting the DZKI1 original full firmware with ZCKH4 rooted kernel image. Once your phone booted up, you'll be able to find the Superuser Icon;



That's mean your phone has successfully been rooted! Yay!

But, still not done yet, because your custom kernel is causing your wifi to malfunction and the yellow triangle to appear. We'll address that by reflashing the DZKI1 original kernel image

Flash The Original Kernel Image
Just follow the "Updating Your Firmware" substituting the DZKI1 original full firmware with DZKI1 original kernel image

You'r done! Now you have a rooted phone meanwhile maintaining original firmware. YAY!!!

Rooting gives you extra permissions to do thing which wasn't allowed in your phone such as;

1. Removing bloatware
2. Set CPU speed
3. Play with system settings

I think doesn't matter, original (official) or insecure (custom), both will increase the counter. I think you can reset it with USB Jig... I think...

so mean using odin flash anything will increase the counter?

You don't have to i think... If it fail to flash, then you need to

exchange by warranty.. the phone is one day old... overall perfect.. successfully rooted I9100G with this method.

hi all..just a question..should i get this model...heard that the performance is not good as b4..and after root...can we upgrade to the new android version?

I aslo using SGS2 version I9100G.Thinking to root my phone but I'm not so sure to do it rite now bcoz I heard from most people,they said that I9100G is not so good as I9100 version in term of performances and other complaints about everything..

Yes, if there are any other ways to root I9100G without flashing kernel, like using apps, but so far there is none.
If you are afraid of increasing the counter, don't root now.
Or you can buy a USB jig to reset the counter.

1. Yes, wifi will not work after rooting with ZCKH4 kernel... for a while. That's why you'll need to re flash the original DZKI1 kernel afterwords... at the end, your I9100G is rooted and the wifi works
2. I don't know... I've never used SuperOnClick
3. I don't think there should be any performance change... Rooting only enable you to do forbidden stuff such as uninstalling bloatware and using advance android apps
4. Yup!
5. After root, your firmware is original... just rooted. So far, there aren't much custom rom for this model... I think, there's none! But if they continue shipping this model, probably more people are gonna create custom rom for it. As long they create a new rom for I9100G, we can always upgrade
6. None... Like I say, rooting only enable you to do "forbidden stuff". No performance change
7. Up to you... do you need to use root privleges? If you're not sure, probably you dont.
8. Nope, once upgrade to new version, need to root back... if you need root access lah

The first flashing instruction was how you actually change your rom.

Unfortunately, custom rom doesn't exist for this model yet, as far as I know lah...

As far as my understanding goes, rom = firmware, and kernel is a small part of the rom itself. Correct me if I'm wrong

Yes, you are correct. The only thing is when you flashing insecure kernel just for rooting only, it didn't fall under changing rom category. Changing rom is when you flash/update the whole firmware exp from KH1 to KH3.

Each time flash using Odin will increase your binary counter. Buy a usb jig to reset it back to 0 :-)

Btw.. 2 easiest way to confirm your version
1) Check at the box. It stated the version I9100 or I9100G at the back of the box.
2) On the phone > settings > about phone > model number.
Also the G version price is lower than the non-G version.

the g version better izzit? how come the price lower 1?

G version lower graphic. Normal user won't feel anything about it. HD games still works well in both G or Non-G version.

Just soft remind here, downloaded "ZCKH4 rooted kernel image" no extraction needed, make sure the file putting in PDA column always end with ".tar".

Thank you I9100G and IntraTech. Am a "G" owner. Share same feeling with ZenkiMon, that we're cheated by Samsung Malaysia. Anyway, I managed to root the 9100G but before downloading/installing apps, I find the camera unstable. Now I cannot use the camera...giving "Camera Failed".
Any ideas, please. Have flashed and reflashed 6 times already. Sometines the camera works initially but after a few minutes, it fails even without installing any apps..

Go to Setting > applications > manage applications > all > camera > clear cache/data
- If have Titanuim use it to clear Dalvik cache
- If still cannot then do factory/hard reset
- If lose apps after factory/hard reset, download back Titanium and use it to restore back all your missing apps

1 little request,can u share with us all the latest thing that we can do for this model if u know anything.

Congratz for those who have succesfull in rooting their phone. If you have Superuser app and CWM then its good. Otherwise download that two apps. Use CWM to make full backup of you rom. Incase shit happen, you can flash back your original rom using CWM. No need to use Odin anymore as flashing using Odin increase your binary counter.
Next download Titanium Backup from market. Use it to backup all you apps. Again if shit happen and you have to do hard/factory reset, you'll going to lose all your apps. Just download Titanium Backup again and then use it to restore back all your missing apps. Easy huhh.. :-P
The G version still dont have custom rom at the.moment but it doesn't stop you from customized your phone. You can't unleash you phone full potential yet as you're using stock rom but you still can customized it to suit your personality.
Download launcher from market. There are a few good free launcher such as LauncherPro, ADW Launcher, Go Launcher EX and even ICS Launcher. Use the one that you like most. Then start customized it by downloading Theme. There are dozen of Theme that you can use together with your Launcher. After that download Icon Pack so you can change and make your icons more beautiful. There are also Fonts Pack where you can add more fonts style in your phone. Try mix and match all of this. You'll learn new things on how to customized and beautify your own phone. There are tons of thing that you can do and learn. Before i stop the ceramah, download Android Assistant app to monitor your battery condition and also to monitor any roque apps that may drain your battery. Another good app is BetterBatteryStats app. You can download this paid app from market or download the apk from xda-forum. Use this good app to monitor if your phone got any wakelocks. Meaning monitor apps that keep running even when your screen is off. Try to minimize or eliminate this wakelocks as it keep your phone from deep sleep thus draining your battery. Ok guys and gals.,

You still haven't root your phone? In that case please refer to SGSII official thread and all the steps are there at page 1 - for rooting I9100G.
BTW..for customizing you phone.. no root needed. All those Launcher, Theme, Icons and Fonts also no need to root your phone.You can start by downloading Launcher at market then just follow the step. Try it..you will love it

Good Morning to all....and speaking about SGS 9100G,I found out that when you go to contact,both sim and phone are displayed!This does not happen in SGS 9100(as I happened to also owned one now....having both phones!).SGS2 9100 just display phone contact,I just have no idea how to see the sim contact(wether to know the amount of sim contact,let alone to update...!).So in this aspect SGS2 9100G is better.

I expect your SGSII non-G version is still on original stock firmware which is Android 2.3.3.., right.? Once you received firmware upgrade to Android 2.3.4 then this features (display simcard contacts) will appear :-)
This features got nothing to do about G or non-G version but either your firmware is Android 2.3.3 or above.
The G version seems don't have this problem (non display of simcard contacts) because they come right from the box using Android 2.3.4 and some even on Android 2.3.5 already., which have also this features :-))

just got my 9100G last week... try to root this morning and have error after setup connection in odin... something with com port cannot connect...
the solution is to restart the laptop/pc and use other usb port to connect the phone to pc... now my 9100G already rooted...

btw TS... maybe u should mention to enable the USB debugging in your steps... also in odin, do we need to uncheck the 'repartition'?

so, how do i install cwm for Ki1 firmware? as i see it, we will use the stock kernel. anyway, i also tried the insecure kernel from xda for i9100G KI1, but still no cwm in it.

Kudos to you I9100G, works perfectly! You can actually opt to skip the updating your firmware section if your phone already come with DZKI1 so you can retain all your apps

one thing i know... u can use adblock app to remove the apps in the games and app downloaded frm market... for me, those ad kind of annoying...
also can use titanium backup to backup all apps...

Nice guide, and this saved my phone from a semi-brick state by just using the stock Kernel.

Just want to check with you guys, I use Google Maps, Navigation [brut], before my semi-brick episode, everything was working fine. But after I used the stock Kernel, the Google Navigation voice that calls the turn-by-turn is calling out the entire URL of the voice file. Instead of just the normal "Turn Left" it does something like "wwww.//voice.something something, etc etc Turn Left" so it seems like it's reading out the entire URL of the voice prompts.

Anyone got this issue? Or any ideas how to fix this?

FYI I'm using maps4.4.0.4414-brut16 and I have also tried maps4.6.0.4686-brut17 both have the same issue.

I am such a noob user in S2.
My iPhone was stolen in China, so I bought a new S2 I9100G.
Didn't know it was G.
Anyway - I got it with a Chinese ROM, without any Market on it.
Each version of the market I tried to download from the web and installed has failed.
What do I need to do ?
Do I need to ROOT my phone ?
Do I need to reflash it with a new ROM ? With the CWM rom ?
Will that have the market on it ?
Cause from what I see up above, you all seem to have the Market built in in your I9100G devices ...

DONT BUY Samsung s2,folks....

The back button is not sensitive at all, have to tab several times.

And the signal RECEPTION is very,only 2-3 bar as 4 other fon gets FULL BAR. Trust me.....

oh god damn finally i found this.. im i9100G user as well and im downloading the things u provided and this is the 1st time i rooting my phone. so i'll ask some stupid questions.. if i wanted to overclock. which apps should i download? and do i still need to pay and download after i root? will the phone be overheating if i overclock to 1.5?

Did you buy your phone in China or M'sia.?
Try do a factory/hard rest and see if the problem solve.

Cause from what I understand, the Chinese version DOES NOT HAVE the market on purpose.

Go to forum XDA /or search on web and google for this zip file which contains the default Google apps: gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
EXtract the file and install the market apk by copying it to /system/app ( you need to be rooted ) or you can just flash this zip through recovery. Install Chainfire CWM to do this

I decided to redo my original firmware with the pit file and Google Navigation [brut] works fine now

i already root my phone by using bro I9100G method/way.really work.thanks & credit to u bro I9100G.now,i would like to know something.my binary counter did increase by 1.. i have to use usb jig to reset it back to 0.. rite?

so,i have two things i would like to know..
1) how the way to use usb jig to reset my binary counter? just plug & play or need to do something?
2) it will reset the binary counter only or it will effect other things else?

can we ever hope that someday we can get custom roms ?
i mean are developers aware or the I9100G variant ? is it that hard to make existing roms compatible with the I9100G ?

sorry it's just that having A Galaxy S2 and being stuck with the official roms is really frustrating

To facilitate a speedier response at this, we'd have to pool up and donate the same phone to say team cyanogen. IIRC Sammy passed a free orig SGS2 Exynos to them which obviously was a huge help. Even then there's no guarantee. From what I've read, they don't have the manpower skilled for this particular SoC and are atm have no fast access/sources to gain both abilities/people.

You only need to chuck in the usb jig and your phone will go into download mode. I'm not sure whether the usb jig can be used with the G version or not. It's better you ask the seller yourself before you buy the jig from him. Here is the usb jig sales thread
